The 10 Best Local D-Day Tours in Normandy for 2024: Beaches, Battlefields, & Beyond

Last Updated: June 17, 2024 //  by  Ashley Smith 4 Comments

While many travelers can only squeeze in a day trip to Normandy from Paris , just as many others dedicate a couple of days here to take advantage of the many available Normandy D-Day tours. Booking a local day tour of the many worthwhile D-Day sites is the best way to get the most out of your visit.

Why book one of the Normandy D-Day tours?

Day tours in Normandy are great for many reasons, for instance:

  • Transportation – There’s not a lot of reliable public transportation here, so booking a tour will ensure you can get to all the sites you want to see without having to rent a car.
  • Expertise – The Normandy tour guides are experts in their field and can provide loads of historical background on the sites you’ll visit.
  • Planning – Or really, the lack thereof. Book yourself on a tour and you won’t have to deal with any of the logistical planning.
  • Like-minded travelers – On tours like these you get to meet like-minded travelers excited to discuss the topics at hand and share these experiences. This is especially great if you’re traveling solo.

This post only covers D-Day tours originating in Normandy . You have to already be here to join them, or be able to easily get here before the start time. With the exception of two, all the rest start and end in the town of Bayeux . If you’re looking for Normandy day tours starting and ending in Paris, check out my post on Normandy day tours from Paris .

Choosing the best Normandy D-Day tours

But which of the many available tours out there are the best ones? Which ones go to the best places and cover the most ground? Luckily, you have a World War II travel expert at your disposal to scrutinize them all and help you choose!

I haven’t taken all the tours on this list, but I do have a keen sense of what the average Normandy visitor wants from a tour of the D-Day sites . To create this list, I’ve compared the many available tours against my stringent set of criteria. I’ve taken into account things like:

  • Customer rating and reviews
  • Length of the tour and start/end times
  • Overall benefit (Is it worth your valuable time?)
  • Topic/focus of the tour
  • Ease of logistics

…and much more. All so you can be sure which of these Normandy D-Day tours are the most deserving of your precious time and money. All the tours in this post are English-language tours and all prices are listed in U.S. dollars.

So how do I go about choosing which tours are the “best?” Well, I’m extremely particular when it comes to booking travel. I’ll never recommend anything that’s rated lower than 4 out of 5 stars, anything with no reviews, or anything that’s offered by a company that looks less than reputable. As always, I only recommend the things I would personally book for myself. (And I’m a hard sell.)

And if you do find yourself in Paris, be sure to check out the many interesting WWII sites in Paris . There are some great museums and memorials here not to miss.

My favorite day tour companies

The two companies I always go to for day tours (anywhere I go) are Viator and Get Your Guide . I’ve booked many tours through them and have always been satisfied. They’re both well-known in the travel industry; Viator is owned by TripAdvisor. They’re both super easy to book with; most tours offer free cancelation; and they always have competitive prices.

I also like Tours By Locals for great private options. You can find some amazing guides here who are fully licensed, with history degrees, years of experience, and unique local perspectives.

So, let’s get to it! All things considered, these are my choices for the best D-Day tours in Normandy for 2024.

For more information on each of the sites and museums mentioned in this post, check out my articles on what to see at each of the five Allied landing beach sectors: Utah , Omaha , Gold , Juno , & Sword Beaches.

1. Best overall Normandy D-Day tour from Bayeux

My pick for best overall: Normandy American D-Day Beaches Full Day Tour from Bayeux

Without a doubt, my pick for the absolute best D-Day tour in Normandy is this one, for 3 main reasons: it’s a small group tour (maximum 8 people); it has a 5-star rating after almost 1,000 reviews; and it stops at all the right places.

What you’ll see on this tour

This tour includes stops at:

  • Omaha Beach
  • St-Mère-Église
  • Pointe du Hoc
  • Utah Beach and the Utah Beach Museum
  • Normandy American Cemetery
  • La Cambe German Cemetery*

*This stop isn’t listed in the tour description, but many recent reviews say they also stopped here. If you read my post on the best D-Day sites to visit , you’ll know why I recommend a stop at the German cemetery as well.

kensington tours normandy

Why it’s the best

This tour includes all sites I absolutely recommend visiting and no unnecessary fluff. This tour is also ideal for American visitors since it focuses on the American landing zones of Utah and Omaha Beaches. If you have to choose just one day tour for Normandy, this is your best option!

I also love small-group tours because of the individual attention each visitor receives and it’s just a more enjoyable experience overall . (No being herded or not being able to ask questions, etc.) Plus, this tour has a 5-star rating and almost a thousand rave reviews ! Reviewers’ favorite aspects of this tour have been the knowledgeable tour guides and the choice of stops.

What to expect on this tour:

This is a full-day (9-hour) tour that starts and ends in Bayeux . It includes:

  • Pick-up and drop-off in Bayeux
  • Your own knowledgeable guide
  • Air conditioned private transportation
  • Free cancelation up to 24 hours before your tour’s start time

It does not include lunch, optional gratuities, or other personal expenses.

How much this tour costs

As of January 2024, this tour is offered 7 days a week and costs just $139 per person . All things considered, I feel this is a fantastic value for such a highly-rated tour that visits many of the best sites. I would absolutely book this tour myself.

A similar option

There’s another tour that’s similar to this one but that trades in the Utah Beach Museum and La Cambe Germany Cemetery for a visit to the small village of Angoville-au-Plain . If you’d like to visit a small local village where a lot of fighting took place (by the 101 st Airborne), check out: Utah & Omaha Beach D-Day Tour from Bayeux Station .

This tour also has a 5-star rating and tons of rave reviews and is also a small-group tour with a maximum of 8 people.

2. Best half-day Normandy D-Day tour

My pick for best half-day Normandy D-Day tour: American D-Day Sites in Normandy Half-Day Tour from Bayeux

If you find yourself on a time budget here in Normandy but still want to see some of the top D-Day sites, this is the tour for you. This 4-hour tour visits the key American locations, has a maximum of 8 passengers, and has a 5-star review rating.

This half-day Normandy tour includes stops at:

If you have limited time for a D-Day tour , these are three sites you shouldn’t miss . It caps the tour at 8 people for a more personalized experience, and it has a 5-star rating after hundreds of rave reviews . All the best reviews go to the tour guide Matt!

Another thing I love about this tour is that you can choose between morning or afternoon start times . Because it’s just a half-day tour, you can opt for either a 9:00 am start or a 2:00 pm start.

What to expect on this tour

This is a half-day tour (4 hours) that starts and ends in Bayeux . It includes:

  • Pick-up and drop-off in Bayeux city center
  • Private, air conditioned transportation
  • Your own knowledgeable tour guide
  • Free cancelation up to 24 hours before your tour

It does not include lunch, optional gratuities, or your own personal expenses.

As of January 2024, this tour is offered 7 days a week, two times per day, and costs $95 per person . For a small group tour that visits the three main American D-Day sites with a passionate and knowledgeable guide, this is a great deal.

kensington tours normandy

3. Best private D-Day Normandy tour

My pick for best private D-Day tour in Normandy: American D-Day Private Tour with a Licensed Guide (Pierre)

There was some stiff competition here for best private tour, but ultimately I chose this one offered by Pierre, a local who lives in Bayeux.

The greatest thing about hiring a private tour guide for Normandy is you get to choose which sites you visit . Most guides have a list of sites they think are the best, but all are open to amending your tour to your preferences. For instance, for this tour, Pierre plans to take you to:

  • Utah & Omaha Beach (the two American landing beaches)
  • Pointe du Hoc (American battleground)
  • Sainte-Mère-Église

But again, he’s happy to work with you to choose which sites to visit in order to create the D-Day tour you’ve always wanted.

kensington tours normandy

I chose this particular tour for the best private option for a few reasons. First, the guide Pierre has been a licensed D-Day tour guide for over 8 years. Not only that, his background is in political science with a master’s degree in American history . And because he was born in France and lives in Bayeux, you’ll be able to get a unique perspective on D-Day. You can read his bio here .

Additionally, this tour is available for groups up to 7 people (whereas many of the others can only accommodate 4) and as such is a much better value than many others

kensington tours normandy

This is a full-day (8.5-hour) private tour that starts and ends in Bayeux. It includes:

  • Fully customizable itinerary of sites that you choose (or go with the pre-planned ones)
  • Your own private expert local guide with political and historical background

It does not include lunch and other personal expenses, optional gratuities, or museum admission if you choose to visit an extra museum.

As of January 2024, this tour costs $1034 for a group up to 7 people , for everything mentioned above. This is a great option for larger groups or families, but just as awesome for couples looking for a personalized experience.

kensington tours normandy

Honorable mentions

In case this one doesn’t work for you or Pierre isn’t available on your required date, the other private options I considered are:

  • American D-Day Beaches Full Day Tour from Bayeux for up to 4 people, with Karine , licensed Normandy tour guide for over 30 years
  • American D-Day Beaches Tour for 8-16 people with Sabrina , national tour guide and lecturer
  • Landing Beaches, Normandy, D-Day Full Day Private tour from either Caen or Bayeux with Jonathan , licensed tour guide with a master’s degree in French history. This tour costs much less than the other ones, and the caveat is that you pick him up and visit these sites in your own car. You’re booking the guide only here, no driver.

4. Best shore excursion Normandy D-Day tour

My pick for best shore excursion to Normandy’s D-Day sites: D-Day Landing Beaches Shore Excursion from Le Havre

If you’re planning to arrive to the area via cruise ship and are looking to spend a day exploring Normandy’s historic sites, this is the best D-Day tour for you, tailor-made for cruise ship passengers.

This full-day Normandy D-Day tour includes visits to:

kensington tours normandy

If you’re visiting Normandy via cruise ship, you’ll most likely dock at the port in Le Havre. But seeing as how most Normandy D-Day tours leave from Bayeux, your options are limited. This particular tour is tailor-made for cruise ship passengers like you.

You’ll get picked up and dropped off right there at the port near your ship by a guide who understands your particular needs as a cruise ship passenger on a shore excursion . The three sites it includes are my top 3 recommendations for anyone visiting Normandy for any amount of time. And most importantly, it has a 5-star rating and rave reviews .

kensington tours normandy

This full-day (10-hour) shore excursion starts and ends at the cruise port in Le Havre. It includes:

  • Expert guide to tell you all about the sites you’ll visit plus the relevant history of Le Havre as well
  • Round trip transportation to and from your cruise port
  • Free cancelation up to 24 hours before your scheduled tour

As of January 2024, this tour ranges in cost depending on which month of the year you book, but starting rates are $209 per person (in the summer). When rates are higher (like in the spring), the price goes down the more people you have in your group. Take a look at their availability calendar to see the different prices.

kensington tours normandy

5. Best Band of Brothers tour

My pick for the best Band of Brothers -inspired tour: Omaha and Band of Brothers Full Day Tour from Bayeux

There’s a good chance that if you’re here looking at Normandy D-Day tours then you’ve either read the book by Stephen Ambrose or watched the Steven Spielberg/Tom Hanks miniseries Band of Brothers . (And if you haven’t, go do that… NOW.) If you’re as big a fan of the story as I am, you’ll love this tour.

This full-day tour of Normandy’s D-Day sites includes visits to:

  • Airborne Museum
  • Plane crash site at Beuzeville-au-Plain
  • Marmion’s Farm
  • Brécourt Manor
  • Angoville-au-Plain
  • Drop Zone D

This tour is specifically tailored to intrigue fans of the show Band of Brothers so you’ll visit many lesser-known sites and learn more about the history.

You can watch Band of Brothers here on Amazon and it’s also currently available on Netflix, Hulu, and HBO Max.

kensington tours normandy

This tour is operated by Overlord Tour, a leading tour company in the area specifically dedicated to D-Day history. Its itinerary and guides have rave reviews and it’s a favorite among Band of Brothers fans and WWII buffs in general.

I like that it visits the top sites, but also many more obscure sites that the majority of visitors don’t get to see or learn about . You’re sure to make some good friends on this group tour. I also really like the price point—good value here for sure.

statue of a man reaching for the blue sky

This full-day (9-hour) tour starts and ends in Bayeux. It includes:

  • Round trip transportation
  • Small-group limited to 16 people
  • Free cancelation up to 24 hours before your start time

It does not include the cost of lunch, any optional gratuities, or other personal expenses.

As of January 2024, this tour is offered 7 days a week and costs $158 per person . Something I’d like to note about the cost: When you book this tour directly with Overlord Tours instead of through Viator, the cost is slightly lower (€130 which, as of Jan 2024, is about $141 US ).

While this may be tempting, consider this: when you book through Viator , you get the benefit of a full refund if you need to cancel anytime up to 24 hours before the start of your scheduled tour.

kensington tours normandy

When you book directly with Overlord, if you should need to cancel or you simply change your mind, you’ll be subject to a 6% cancelation fee no matter what. If you need to cancel within 14 days of your tour, you now owe a 50% cancelation fee . And if you should want to cancel within a week of your tour, you lose 100% of your booking cost .

That’s just something to think about. Don’t always be so quick to choose the lowest price without digging a little deeper. (Personally, I’d be happy to pay the $17 more for the peace of mind because I know how unpredictable travel planning can be.) By booking with Viator, you still get the highly-rated Overlord tour, but you also get a little bit more freedom and forgiveness.

8 flags of many countries under a blue sky

6. Best D-Day tour for Canadian visitors

My pick for the best D-Day tour for Canadian visitors: Full-Day Canadian Battlefields and Sites of Normandy Tour

You’ve probably noticed that most of these tours center around the American D-Day achievements, but Canada and Great Britain also participated in this monumental invasion. Canadian visitors, this tour focuses on the struggles and achievements of your fellow countrymen.

This full-day tour of Normandy D-Day sites includes stops at:

  • Juno Beach and the Juno Beach Center
  • Beny-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery
  • The communes of Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer, Bernieres-sur-Mer, Authie, Abbey d’Ardenne, and Carpiquet to follow the Canadian advance

As far as Normandy D-Day tours go, there are very few that specifically focus on the battles and achievements of Canadian troops . This tour does not only that, but it also maxes out at 8 passengers , has a 5-star rating , and tons of rave reviews about the tour guides. Plus, the price tag makes this a fantastic value.

kensington tours normandy

This full-day (8-hour) tour starts and ends in Bayeux. It includes:

  • Your own expert tour guide
  • Small-group tour of 8 passengers or less
  • Pick-up and drop-off in Bayeux as well as transportation between the sites
  • Juno Beach Center admission costs

It does not include lunch, gratuities, or other personal expenses. For a full refund, you must cancel within one week of your chosen tour’s start time.

As of January 2024, this tour is offered 7 days a week and costs $148 per person . This is a great deal, especially considering this is one of the only tours of its kind dedicated to Canadian-only D-Day sites.

7. Most unique Normandy D-Day tour

My pick for the most unique Normandy D-Day tour: Half-Day Sidecar Excursion to the Landing Beaches

For something quite different than all the other Normandy D-Day tours out there, check out this tour of the D-Day sites via fully restored vintage sidecars!

This half-day D-Day sites tour includes visits to:

  • Arromanches-les-Bains (one of my favorite spots)
  • Longues-sur-Mer
  • The commune of Port-en-Bessin-Huppain

And all of your travel between the sites will take place aboard some awesome vintage sidecars. What a unique way to explore Normandy!

closeup of gun at german battery from world war ii

I love this tour because it’s something totally different from the rest. Rather than drive between the sites in a sedan or multi-passenger van (or worse, a giant tour bus), you get to see Normandy from a totally unique (and fun!) perspective .

Beyond that, this is one of the few Normandy day tours that visits Arromanches-les-Bains and the German battery at Longues-sur-Mer . The commune of Arromanches is located in the Gold Beach sector and is famous for being the location of the artificial harbors that helped the Allies win the war (which you can still see out in the ocean today).

The Longues-sur-Mer battery is another great site I recommend visiting. Here, you’ll find the most intact German battery that still exists and it really helps to put German defense of the “Atlantic Wall” into perspective.

This tour also has a 5-star rating and nothing but rave reviews . I also love how hard they work to make visiting these somber locations fun and interesting.

kensington tours normandy

This half-day (4-hour) tour starts and ends in Bayeux. It includes:

  • Private, round-trip transportation
  • Use of vintage helmets, gloves, glasses, and jackets for some fun photo ops
  • Fully licensed and insured professional tour guides
  • Maximum of 8 people on this tour
  • Full refund if canceled up to 24 hours before your tour’s starting time

It does not include the cost of lunch, gratuities, or other personal expenses.

As of January 2024, this tour is offered 7 days a week and costs $244 per person (through April) and then increases to $271 per person from May 1st onwards. For such a unique and fun tour, and one of your only chances to visit Arromanches and Longues-sur-Mer, this price point makes sense, even if it is just a half-day tour. This will definitely be an experience you’ll never forget.

kensington tours normandy

8. Best Normandy D-Day tour from Caen

My pick for the best Normandy tour from Caen: Guided D-Day Sites Tour & Caen Memorial Museum

It’s true that most of the best Normandy D-Day tours start and end in Bayeux, but what if you’re staying in Caen? Rather than having to make your way to Bayeux to start your tour, check out this one that starts and ends in Caen.

This full-day tour includes visits to:

  • Caen Memorial Museum

kensington tours normandy

This is one of the only available Normandy D-Day tours that includes a self-guided visit to the Caen Memorial Museum, widely believed to be the best World War II museum in France . I personally consider this museum a must-visit, so I love that this tour includes it. I also like that the museum portion of the tour is self-guided since everyone visits museums in their own way.

This is another small-group tour (capped at 7 people) and it has tons of rave reviews, especially of the guides (5/5).

kensington tours normandy

This full-day (7-hour) tour starts and ends in Caen. It includes:

  • Admission to the Caen Memorial Museum
  • Maximum of 7 people total
  • Full refund if canceled within 2 days of your tour

As of January 2024, this tour is offered 7 days a week and costs $129 per person all year long. Since this includes museum admission (about $22 US), that makes this tour one great value to visit these top locations.

old jeep with british flag on top in a small french town

9. Best tour for British visitors

My pick for best D-Day tour for British visitors: British D-Day World War II Normandy Private Tour

Despite the fact that Great Britain was a massive participant in the D-Day landings, landing at two of the five beaches, there are shockingly few tours that focus on the British sectors. However, if you’re willing and able to opt for a private tour, this one is a great option.

  • Pegasus Bridge and Memorial
  • Main British airborne sites in Ranville
  • Ranville War Cemetery
  • Sword Beach landing sites and German headquarters
  • Juno and Gold Beaches (pass by)

But since this is a private option, you have the ability to customize it to your preferences. Care to also visit Arromanches-les-Bains? Talk to your guide about it!

kensington tours normandy

So few Normandy D-Day tours visit the British sectors and this one is great because you can customize it with the sites you most want to visit. You also have Eric as your guide, a fabulous Scottish tour guide who has lived and tour-guided in Normandy for the past 20 years.

Also, because you can fit up to 8 people on this tour, that makes this one of the best-priced private tours out there!

This full-day (8.5-hour) tour starts and ends in beautiful Bayeux. It includes:

  • Pick-up, drop-off, and round-trip transportation between all sites
  • Private transportation
  • The ability to customize the tour the way you want

It does not include lunch or other personal expenses.

As of January 2024, this tour is offered 7 days a week and costs $899 per group up to 8 people . This is the best per-person rate of all the private Normandy tours I’ve seen.

colorful map of the normandy invasion

10. Best bonus D-Day sites tour

My pick for best bonus D-Day sites tour: Utah & Omaha Beaches D-Day Group Tour from Bayeux

This tour visits many of the same sites as the others, but I’m calling this a “bonus” tour because it passes by a number of additional sites you might not otherwise see. Even though these are just “pass-by” stops, they still might interest you.

  • Commune of Angoville-au-Plain, drop zone of the 101 st Airborne
  • Site of the hedgerows battle (pass by)
  • Major Richard Winters Memorial (pass by)
  • Sainte-Marie-du-Mont (pass by)

kensington tours normandy

On this tour, even in between stops you’ll get to see interesting things like the famous hedgerows (“bocage”) and the monument to Maj. Dick Winters whom you may know from Band of Brothers .

This tour also has a 5-star rating and is one of the most popular Normandy D-Day tours on Viator (with over 1,100 rave reviews).

This full-day (8.5-hour) tour starts and ends in Bayeux. It includes:

  • Admission to the Airborne Museum
  • Round-trip transportation
  • Air conditioned minivan
  • Professional tour guide

This isn’t necessarily a small-group tour since it has a maximum of 20 passengers (if it fills up). It does not include lunch, gratuities, or other personal expenses.

As of January 2024, this tour is offered 7 days a week and costs $159 per person . This price point is par for the course and you get to see so much.

Normandy Tour Reviews

1. best value tour: normandy d-day small-group day trip with omaha beach, cemetery & cider tasting.

  • Departure Point : 6 Av. de Wagram, 75008 Paris
  • Departure Time : 7:00 AM
  • Duration : 12 to 13 hours
  • Includes : Small Group Tour of 8 people max, transport by air-conditioned minivan, expert guide, cider tastings, skip-the-line at the Overlord Museum

If you would like to get a tour of Normandy in a more intimate setting of 8 people or less this is the perfect tour for you. You will start your journey a comfortable van for the roughly two and half hour drive.

Along the way you can admire the scenery of the French countryside and the small villages. Along the way be sure to ask any questions of your driver / guide. Your first destination is the Omaha Beach where over 2,400 young men lost their life.

You will learn about their acts of heroism that saved the landing from disaster! You will spend about 30 minutes here before going to Overlord Museum to learn about the enormous planning that went into the landings.

Here you will see displays of the equipment and machines that were used in the landings such as the Higgins boats and Sherman tanks. You will have about an hour here at the museum. Then it’s off the Longues-sur-Mer battery where the German command was located along with its 150mm guns that were trained on the beaches.

Next up is local French restaurant for lunch where you can ponder what you have just seen and what the soldiers went through that day.

After lunch you will head to Pointe du Hoc where the Germans had enormous cannons trained on the beaches and learn how the Army Rangers climbed the cliffs to capture the position before they could be used.

Next is the most breathtaking part of the tour: the cemetery. Here there are almost 10,000 crosses and Stars of David that are perfectly maintained and lined up. Your guide will give you a tour and tell you about some of the Medal of Honor winners.

Lastly is a cider tasting at a local farm and head back to Paris after a full day of exploration of Normandy.

While all the beaches that became landing zones for Allied forces on D-Day are important, it seems Omaha Beach is the location of legends.

The pristine, manicured lawns are a tribute to those brave men. As a family-friendly day tour from Paris to Normandy, this is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made.

Get up close and personal with the memorial cemeteries, museums and more. This tour departs from Bayeux, Normandy and not from Paris.

If you are staying in Paris, there are easy travel methods to get to Normandy for this tour. One of the best is probably the train as you enjoy the changing scenery of the French countryside.

With your small group of 8 people, at most, you’ll first head to Sainte-Mere Church, which played an important role in WW2, as well as the Airborne Museum.

Learn the dangers that the paratroopers faced when landing here and what their purpose was during the D-Days Allied Forces operations.

Visit Utah Beach, held by the 4th Infantry Division, and Omaha Beach, the largest landing zone for American troops. Walk through the headstones of the American cemetery where nearly 10,000 troops lay resting.

Walk through the German Memorial Cemetery where more than double that have been laid to rest in the largest cemetery in France dedicated to the German soldiers.

With so many historically significant locations to visit and many more stories and legends to learn about in the museums and visitors centers, it’s hard not to realize just how massive the D-Day operations were. In fact, D-Day is still the largest amphibian landing in history.

Can You Visit Normandy as a Day Trip from Paris?

It is possible to visit Normandy as a day trip from Paris. It’s located about 150 miles northwest of Paris and there are quite a few tour operators that have day trips to the D-Day beaches and other nearby attractions.

You should take a few days to explore the Normandy area. There is so much to see and do from visiting the historic sites and museums to sampling the local cuisine.

One of the best parts of traveling is meeting the locals and taking the time to explore some off the beaten path places. While you can do a day trip and snap a few photos but you will miss out on what makes Normandy and amazing area.

That being said, if you’re truly limited on time and can only swing a day trip then go for it! Just be prepared for a long day of travel and a whirlwind tour of the highlights.

So while a day trip to Normandy from Paris can be done, I would recommend taking at least a few days to really experience everything the region has to offer. From the rich history and culture to the natural beauty and delicious cuisine, Normandy is a destination that’s worth taking the time to explore.

What Else is There in Normandy to See Other Than the D-Day Beaches?

Here are five places to check out besides the Normandy beach area:

  • Mont Saint Michel : This stunning island monastery is one of the most iconic landmarks in France. Mont Saint Michele is and island just off the coast and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. If you are in the area you should definitely see it.
  • Bayeux Tapestry : This work of art shows the events leading up to the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. It’s housed in the charming town of Bayeux which is worth a visit.
  • Rouen Cathedral : This magnificent Gothic cathedral in the city of Rouen is a masterpiece of medieval architecture. It’s also where Joan of Arc was famously tried and condemned to death.
  • Calvados Distilleries : Normandy is famous for its delicious apple brandy known as Calvados. There are several distilleries where you can sample the local specialties.
  • Giverny : This charming village was the home of Impressionist painter Claude Monet, and his former house and gardens are open to the public.

How Long is the Train Ride from Paris to Normandy?

The train from Paris to Normandy takes about 1.5 to 3 hours. It just depends on the amount of stops. The main train stations in Normandy are Caen, Bayeux, and Cherbourg and each of these has a direct train connection from Paris.

The train is comfortable and with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi and food and drink service. The scenery along the way is simply stunning as you pass through the picturesque French countryside and charming villages.

The schedule for the high speed train varies depending on the time of year. You so you need to check the schedule before booking your tour.

Located along the northwest coast of France, planning the perfect 3, 4 or 5-day Normandy road trip itinerary is an excellent way to experience this diverse region. Boasting picturesque countryside, charming coastal towns, and iconic landmarks, this is an excellent corner of France to explore.

Whether you’re interested in the history of the D-Day landing beaches, the imposing charms of the Mont Saint-Michel tidal island or want to walk in the footsteps of an impressionist painter, you cannot go wrong with a road trip to Normandy.

Table of Contents

How Many Days in Normandy?

Whether you are hoping to go on a cultural tour of this historically significant region in Northern France or enjoy the picturesque towns and dramatic coastal scenery, you may be wondering how many days to spend in Normandy.

If you only have 3 days for your trip or are passing through as part of a more extended road trip through France, don’t worry. You will still be able to visit the highlights but may have to focus your trip on either the eastern or western side of the region to make the most out of your time.

With 3 days in the Normandy region, you will be able to visit Mont Saint-Michel, Caen and the D-Day landing beaches without feeling rushed.

If you have 4 days in Normandy, you will have time to visit the highlights as well as Honfleur, a charming town on the coast of Normandy that’s known for its picturesque harbour, quaint streets, artistic ambience and the dramatic white cliffs of Étretat.

Ideally, you would spend a full 5 days exploring this varied region. 5 days in Normandy will give you time to visit the highlights as well as a bonus day in Rouen, the historic capital of Normandy, which transports you back in time with its stunning medieval architecture, narrow cobblestone streets, and grand Gothic cathedral.

Those who have more time can continue to explore more of Normandy itself or even head south to explore neighbouring Brittany .

Honfleur Harbour in Normandy

Getting To & Around Normandy

Getting to Normandy is a breeze, with several convenient transportation options available. If you’re travelling from within France, the region is easily accessible by train.

The cities of Caen, Rouen, and Le Havre have well-connected train stations, offering regular services from Paris and other major cities across France. You can view train schedules here.

For those flying in from abroad, the closest international airports are both located on the outskirts of Paris , Paris Charles de Gaulle and Paris Orly.

From there, you can rent a car, drive to Normandy, or take a train to one of the region’s main cities. The train journey from Paris to Normandy takes approximately 1-2 hours, depending on your destination.

If you are visiting from the UK and prefer to take the scenic route, consider taking a ferry. Regular ferry services are operating between UK ports (such as Portsmouth or Dover) and ports in Normandy (such as Ouistreham or Le Havre). It’s a fantastic way to enjoy the sea views and arrives directly in Normandy with your vehicle.

The Eurotunnel is also an option if you are coming from the UK which can be cheaper than the ferry, especially during peak times. However, if you do opt for the Eurotunnel, bear in mind you will have to drive from Calais, which takes around 5 hours.

Taking a road trip in Normandy is the best way to explore this compact region so if you are travelling without your vehicle, you may wish to hire a car. This will allow you time to discover the highlights at your own pace and stumble across the hidden gems along the way.

If you need to rent a car for your trip, you can browse Rentalcars.com which compares prices for major companies.

Normandy has a local network of buses and trains, and the towns and cities are small enough to explore on foot once you have arrived. There is a direct train between the two main cities, Rouen and Caen, but travelling using public transport to the smaller villages can be more fragmented with several changes giving you less time to explore your destination.

If you don’t have access to a vehicle, you may want to consider staying in Paris and taking guided day tours out to Normandy to explore the D-Day sights or Mont Saint Michel.

Omaha Beach in Normandy

3, 4 or 5-Day Normandy Itinerary

On this Normandy road trip, we are taking you on a journey from west to east along the region, starting with Mont Saint Michel and ending in the picturesque city of Rouen.

The climate of this region is much the same as the southern corner of the UK, they are close neighbours looking out at one another across the English Channel. During the summer months, you can expect glorious sunshine, long summer evenings and pastel sunsets, but be aware the main attractions can get busy during the peak times.

Spring is a beautiful time to visit, with flowers exploding into bloom after a long winter. The crowds have yet to arrive and you can often enjoy the highlights all to yourself.

The autumn and winter months can be wild, windy and wet so if you are hoping to wander through the streets, stand tall on the white cliffs and take the bridge across the Mont Saint Michel, you may want to avoid these seasons – or pack a decent waterproof.

Day 1 – Mont Saint-Michel

Mont saint-michel village.

You’ll find the captivating rocky mound of Mont Saint-Michel, North of the Normandy coastline, where the Breton coast meets the Couesnon River. With its abbey dating back to the 8th century, this island is one of the Western world’s most ancient Christian pilgrimage sites.

Today, Mont Saint-Michel is a world UNESCO heritage site and is France’s second most visited tourist attraction, pipped to the post by the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Arrive at Mont Saint-Michel early to beat the crowds, parking spaces can be limited so if you are arriving by car, set the alarm early to avoid disappointment.

If you are arriving by train, head to Pontorson, the closest station to the Mont-Saint-Michel, and then take the free shuttle bus. You can walk across to the island in around 50 minutes, but there is a free shuttle bus from the car park.

Mont Saint Michel is a tidal island and although there is a bridge connecting the island to the mainland, during high tide times eg. spring tides, the bridge can become fully or partially submerged, so check tide times before you set off.

Start your day in the picturesque village, wandering through its narrow streets and admiring medieval architecture. Then, spend some time exploring the shops and boutiques, where you can find souvenirs, local crafts, and tasty treats such as buttery biscuits and cider.

Grab a coffee and a croissant from an artisan boulangerie in the village centre before heading up to the Abbey.

Mont Saint-Michel

Mont Saint-Michel Abbey

Mont Saint-Michel Abbey, perched atop the rocky island, is a magnificent architectural masterpiece. Dating back to the 8th century, it showcases stunning Gothic design and houses intricate chapels, grand halls, and a beautiful cloister.

Make sure to buy your tickets in advance and download them onto your phone on the mainland as internet connectivity is patchy on the island itself.

Enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the charming restaurants on the island, savouring local specialities like salted lamb or a fresh seafood dish.

Mont Saint Michel is a fortified village, meaning it is surrounded by medieval ramparts. Spend the afternoon walking around these ramparts for a scenic tour of the island with excellent views of the bay. You can also take a walking tour of the area.

This is a spectacular way to enjoy the sunset, especially if you can get up to one of the towers – North Tower, Gabriel Tower or Tour du Roi.

You can either spend the night on the island or head back to a nearby village for more budget-friendly accommodation, such as the historic town of Avranches or the charming coastal town of Cancale, known for its oysters.

Day 2 – Caen

Château de caen.

Caen is a vibrant city, a captivating blend of ancient history and modern vitality. The city showcases its medieval past with picturesque cobblestone streets and charming timber-framed houses.

Begin your day in Caen by visiting the magnificent Château de Caen. Built by William the Conqueror, it stands as a testament to medieval architecture and history. Explore its imposing walls, towers, and ramparts, and delve into the castle’s rich past as a symbol of power and conquest.

Abbaye-aux-Hommes

Next, take a short stroll over to Abbaye-aux-Hommes, another architectural marvel founded by William the Conqueror. This abbey showcases Romanesque design and houses the tomb of the legendary king.

Admire its grandeur, explore its serene interior, and immerse yourself in the rich history and spiritual significance of this iconic Norman landmark.

Abbaye aux Hommes

After enjoying some of the city’s awe-inspiring architecture, head over to stroll through the picturesque streets of Caen’s Old Town, known as the Vaugueux Quarter. Admire the charming half-timbered houses, quaint shops, and cosy cafes.

The old town is the perfect spot to stop for lunch. Enjoy one of Caen’s charming restaurants, indulging in local specialities such as tripe à la mode de Caen (a traditional dish) or delicious seafood. If you have a sweet tooth, opt for a wafer-thin crepe at Crêperie l’Instant.

This is the perfect opportunity to delve into the history of the 1944 D-Day landing beaches before taking a tour on day 3. You can book tickets in advance here.

Day 3 – D-Day Beaches

Omaha beach.

A must-visit on any itinerary for Normandy, day 3 brings us to the hallowed grounds of the D-Day beaches. If you only have 3 days in the region, this is a highlight and is the perfect way to round off your trip.

These shores, locations of the historic World War II invasion, bear witness to the bravery and sacrifice of the Allied forces. Immerse yourself in the stories of courage and resilience that unfolded on these beaches, forever shaping history.

The best way to visit the D-Day beaches is by road trip, with your own vehicle you can take your time, visiting the beaches at your own pace. However, if you don’t have access to a car, several guided group day trips or private D-Day tours are available from Paris or from nearby towns – such as this day tour from Bayeux.

Start your day by heading to Omaha Beach, one of the most significant D-Day landing sites. Visit the Omaha Beach Memorial Museum to learn about the Allied forces’ heroic efforts and the challenges they faced during the invasion.

Pointe du Hoc

Continue to Pointe du Hoc, a strategic location where U.S. Army Rangers scaled cliffs to neutralise German artillery. Explore the well-preserved bunkers and enjoy panoramic views of the coastline.

After taking a short lunch stop to enjoy a packed lunch or a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants, make your way to the American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer. Pay your respects at the solemn gravesites and reflect upon the sacrifices made by the soldiers.

American War Cemetery in Colleville-sur-Mer

Arromanches-les-Bains

Next, visit the Arromanches-les-Bains and the Mulberry Harbor remains. Discover the innovative engineering behind the artificial port and its vital role during the Normandy invasion.

If time allows, visit the Juno Beach Centre, dedicated to Canada’s contribution to the D-Day landings. Explore the exhibits and gain insight into the experiences of Canadian soldiers.

As the sun goes down, take a moment to reflect on the beaches themselves, where history unfolded. Then, you can either head back to Caen to spend the night or head on to Honfleur, our destination for day 4.

Alternatively, if you have more time, you can also visit the town of Bayeux on the way back. This is currently home to the Bayeux Tapestry which depicts the 1066 Norman Conquest and dates back to the 15th Century.

Day 4 – Honfleur

Honfleur .

Honfleur is a charming old port town known for its picturesque harbour, vibrant art scene, and quaint streets lined with colourful half-timbered houses.

Spend the morning wandering around Vieux Bassin, the heart of the port. Quaint buildings, artisan shops, bakeries and restaurants line the street, looking out on the harbour. You can organise a walking tour if you prefer.

Honfleur is pretty as a picture and has long been an artistic haven. Museums and galleries showcase masterpieces that pay homage to its Impressionist heritage. Notably, the birthplace of Eugène Boudin, mentor to Claude Monet, Honfleur holds pride in its connection to these renowned artists.

You’ll find numerous galleries across the town, but if you don’t feel like meandering through a gallery, you’ll often find artists set up with easels along the Vieux Bassin, painting the waterfront scenes just as the impressionists did 200 years before them.

Honfleur’s most famous landmark is the largest wooden church in France, Église Sainte Catherine. A short walk away from the hustle and bustle of the harbour, the church is free to enter and the interior is a marvel of craftsmanship.

The church was built by shipbuilders in the 15th century using wood from local forests. Don’t forget to look up at the unique ceiling which looks like two upside-down ships’ hulls.

Eglise Saint Catherine

Grab a picnic from Honfleur, a variety of local delights such as Camembert and Pont-l’Évêque Cheese or a slice of Tarte Tatin (caramelised apple tart) and take a drive out to the dramatic white cliffs of Étretat. You can also take a bus from Honfleur to Étretat with a change in La Havre.

Nestled along the picturesque cliffs of the Alabaster Coast in Normandy, Étretat is a charming seaside village renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty. Its iconic white chalk cliffs, including the majestic formations of the Falaise d’Amont and Falaise d’Aval, have inspired countless artists and writers throughout history.

Take a leisurely stroll along the promenade, admiring panoramic views of the English Channel and the famous Arch and Needle rock formations. Then, for the best view of the Needle Rock and Elephant Trunk, head up to the cliff paths and take a hike out of the village.

The views from either end are breathtaking, but Falaise Aval offers better views of the needle and the third arch, making it the most popular route.

Spend the evening in the sunshine sitting out on a restaurant terrace in the village. Normandy is known for its apple orchards, so make sure to sample some local cider with your dinner or try some apple brandy, known as calvados.

If you only have 4 days, this is the perfect way to round off your trip.

Day 5 – Rouen

Rouen cathedral.

Welcome to Rouen, the historic capital of Normandy, France. This enchanting city, steeped in rich history and architectural splendour, boasts magnificent Gothic cathedrals, charming cobblestone streets, and a vibrant cultural scene.

Start your day in Rouen by visiting the magnificent Rouen Cathedral, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture immortalised by Claude Monet’s paintings. Admire the intricate facade and explore the interior, including the stunning stained glass windows.

During the summer months, make sure to return to the cathedral at dusk, as it transforms into a sound and light show. The themes change regularly, ranging from Joan of Arc, the Viking adventure or the impressionist movement.

Explore the Historic Centre

Next, take a stroll through the charming streets of the historic centre, making your way to the Gros Horloge, an iconic 14th-century astronomical clock. The clock’s mechanism is thought to be one of the oldest in France, the movement having been made in 1389.

Spend the early afternoon exploring the Rue du Gros-Horloge, a vibrant street lined with shops and cafes. Indulge in retail therapy or relax at a sidewalk café while enjoying the lively atmosphere. You take a walking tour of the area.

This is the perfect place to stop for lunch at one of Rouen’s cosy bistros, savouring local specialities such as duck confit, creamy Normandy cheeses, or a savoury galette.

Astronomical Clock at Rouen

Musée des beaux-arts de Rouen & Musée Le Secq des Tournelles

After lunch, take your pick from several world-class museums and galleries. Visit the Musée des beaux-arts de Rouen (Fine Arts Museum of Rouen), home to the second-largest collection of Impressionist works in France.

For a more unusual artistic experience, the Musée Le Secq des Tournelles is a must-visit. Home to unusual, ornate pieces of wrought ironwork.

Ordinary objects like hinges, tools, signs, locks, and cutlery undergo a surreal transformation, resembling works of art straight out of the Surrealist movement. They metamorphose into whimsical faces,  intricate swirling patterns, and animal-like forms.

Joan of Arc Square

If art is not your thing, head to the Joan of Arc Square and the Church of Saint Joan of Arc, an open-air museum experience dedicated to retelling the story of Saint Joan of Arc. This is a truly immersive experience with projected images and films on the building’s stone walls.

Inside the Churchl of St. Joan of Arc

Seine River Cruise

If you have time, taking a boat trip on the Seine River is a wonderful way to view the city and Normandy countryside from a different perspective to bring your 5 days in Normandy to a close.

Leaving from Rouen, embark on a 1.5-hour sailing around the marina. Learn about the history of the area with a local guide, before returning to the docks.

Those who have a bit more time or are heading back to Paris from here may love to stop in the town of Giverny, which was once home to impressionist painter Claude Monet.

Normandy is a diverse region, with bags of history and culture to discover alongside the beautiful French countryside. Whether you are lucky enough to have 5 days to explore Normandy or are only passing through, you’re bound to be enchanted by this region. So pack your picnic, and hit the road for a Normandy road trip you’ll never forget.

Fantastic trip to Paris and Normandy

The Kensington air travel agent, Rommel Benedicto, was really helpful. He got us great seats at best available price for our air travel to and from Paris. Our Kensington travel expert Megan Harvey was outstanding. She made sure our preferences for all aspects of our trip to Paris and WWII sites in Normandy (guided tours, lodging, transportation) were understood and coordinated with the in-country team. While planning for the trip she answered our emails quickly and arranged phone calls when needed. The in-country team was excellent. We especially loved Hotel Bachaumont for charm, location (Montorgueil district), staff and customer service. We also loved the Domaine de Bayeux in Normandy. It was so beautiful and had wonderful staff and amazing breakfast in a restored chateau. Hotel Le Senat our last night was very nice and good location in the Latin Quarter. Our guide for our 3 days in Paris, Celine, was great and very knowledgeable about art, architecture and history. She showed us many out of the way places that tourists can't find on their own. Our guide in Normandy, Pierre, was outstanding. He had a masters degree in history and grew up in Normandy with great reverence for the Allied liberation of France on D-day. He knew everything to the last detail. There were a couple of glitches with guides (one didn't show up in Normandy but the emergency team quickly arranged for Pierre to take us on short notice and he was wonderful). The in-country team was easy to reach if we couldn't find our driver or there was a guide scheduling question. We could walk most places but we were grateful for the drivers Kensington arranged in Paris (transport to train, airport, Versailles etc) with the crazy traffic around Paris. They knew where to go and how to get there so no time was wasted trying to figure that out. We were so glad we had Kensington because the emergency contacts always answered and resolved any issues promptly. Everyone was so polite, professional and helpful. I would strongly recommend Kensington!

Hello Na, Thank you so much for your detailed review! We are so glad to hear your praise for Rommel and Megan here at Kensington. We pride ourselves on our local partners around the world, too, so it is great to read that your guides Celine and Pierre exceeded your expectations. We know traveling abroad can come with its glitches as you said, and that's why we trust our in-destination teams to be there for you like they were. We are excited and hopeful to one day get the opportunity to plan a trip for you again! Sincerely, - The Team at Kensington Tours

Thank you, Susan, for a wonderful, seamless trip-of-a-lifetime to Italy!

Hello Susan, Sadly, we are leaving Sorrento tomorrow, but this has been a truly amazing trip-of-a-lifetime! You did an incredible job handling ALL the “minor” details to make this vacation a seamless and wonderful experience. Everything about our time in Italy has gone perfectly. From the drivers being on time, and being friendly tour guides in their own right. To the historic site guides being so knowledgeable - and such nice people! To the first-class train experiences. And the outstanding cooking classes (we just got back to our hotel after taking the Bella Sorrento cooking class, and we are so full and satisfied!). Not to mention the spectacular hotels! Fortune was even on our side a few times! For instance, yesterday our guide got us to the Blue Grotto on Capri very quickly so we could beat the crowds, and as we were inside the cave the tide had been rising and the water had become so rough that they decided to close the Grotto for the day and we were the last group inside. We would have been VERY disappointed to have missed such an awesome experience. It was beautiful! We have met quite a few people on this trip that were very unhappy with their travel agents for a variety of reasons. One couple had a Coliseum tour booked for June 2nd, only to have it cancelled the night before because June 2nd is a national holiday - Festa della repubblica - so they would not be able to experience that wonderful historic place after traveling all the way to Rome. We referred them to Kensington Tours for their next trip, by the way! Susan, you really went above and beyond for us, and we want to say … Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for your hard work in creating such a special trip for Paula … and me too! We are very grateful and will never forget this exceptional holiday! We look forward to planning another trip with you in the future! Grazie mille, Rich & Paula

Date of experience : May 25, 2023

Dear Rich and Paula, It brings us immense joy to hear that your trip to Italy was a seamless and wonderful experience. Susan's meticulous planning and attention to detail, from drivers to historic site guides and first-class train journeys, have truly made this a trip of a lifetime. We're delighted that fortune smiled upon you during your visit to the Blue Grotto in Capri. Your satisfaction is our utmost priority, and we're grateful for your trust in Kensington Tours. We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to assist you in planning another exceptional holiday in the future. Grazie mille! -The Team at Kensington Tours

First Time in Finland - Auroura Trip - Updated

This was our first trip planned by a travel company so I have nothing to compare it to. Upon arrival in Helsinki we received the “Scandinavian Welcome Package” which turned out to be just a folder with a printout of the trip itinerary. I don’t know what I was expecting – maybe some brocures and restaurant suggestions. Because I already had a printed copy of the intinerary, I didn’t think to look at the provided itinerary to be sure it matched what I had – it didn't. This caused a mix-up on day 5 as the itinerary had changed for our scheduled transport pickup time. We showed up at 8:00 am and the transport showed up at 11:00 am. Lesson learned, follow the itinerary provided in the welcome package and make no assumptions. Also, the pick-up locations for the excursions in Levi/Sirkka were incorrect which caused some confusion between us and our driver. The pick-up location listed should have been our hotel lobby for everything, but that was not what was printed on the itinerary. We spent 3 days in Helsinki (an extra day because of the transportation strike) and we enjoyed getting to know the city. We did a private 4 hour architecure tour and it was great. Our guide was very knowledgable and rearranged our tour based on our level of experience (my husband is an architect) as well as things we'd already seen and things we wanted to see and she added good suggestions. Our hotel, Hotel Haven, was very nice and had the best breakfast of any of the places we stayed. After Helsinki we traveled north to the Wilderness Hotel Nellim. We thought it was located in Inari based on the information in the itinerary, but it is actually in the middle of nowhere; the nearest town is 45 minutes away. There was nothing to do outside of the hotel and drinks at the hotel are very expensive so we slept late and were in bed early both nights. We did a couple of excursions there and the guides were great. We stayed in an Aurora Bubble and it was tiny - we could barely fit our suitcases inside it. It also didn't have a shower, but we were able to schedule a shower and have the sauna to ourselves for a little while. The driver that picked us up to drive us to Levi, Alex, was awesome! We ended up becoming friends and he really made the trip special by providing an insiders guide to Finland/Lapland. We stayed in the Panorama Hotel, it is a very nice resort hotel with spacious rooms. The drawback was that it sits atop a ski slope north of town and the only way to get into town besides a taxi is to ride the lift down which cost 8 euros per person/ per day, it was -0 F a lot of the time and we don't ski. There wasn't much to do at the resort for non-skiers, the suana and the panorama bar at the top with the famous view both had weird hours. I would have rather stayed closer to town (Sirkka) where there was more to do and more restaurants to chose from. Also, the Aurora Snowmobile Safari was disappointing. We were in a very large group of over 15 snowmbiles (itinerary said small group) and rode out to a cabin in the woods where there was no view of the sky due to the tree cover. We sat in a large hut where we had one cup of hot cocoa and a luke warm sausage and then headed back to town. This was probably the clearest night of our trip, and I felt like we wasted the time we could have been looking for the aurora lights sitting in a hut. Why am I rating this 3 stars? We had to go a day early due to the transportation strike and had to pay additional for everything that day - it seems like Kensington could have helped us with that added expense based on what we paid for the trip. Also, we missed our connection for a flight home from Helsinki due to a late plane and Kensington was no help getting us re-routed even though I paid and extra $400 to give them the ability to rebook flights on our behalf. When I contacted them they told me to contact my agent. It was 2:00 am where my agent is located, I got no response from them when I pointed that out. We tried working with a Finnair agent, but ultimately had to figure out our return flight options using the internet on our phones which was difficult. Finnair wanted to route us through Tokyo to Houston - that would have been 23 hours of flight time. We were finally able to figure out a flight leaving the next morning that got us in earlier than the Toyko flight and was only about 16 hours of flight time. Finnair paid for our hotel and a couple of meals after we went up the chain of command a level. Also, there was the itinerary change that wasn't pointed out and the logistics issues caused by wrong information. In the end, we had a wonderful trip, only got a peak at the lights and will probably book independatly next time. Update: Kensington tours refunded the portion of our travel expenses we paid to allow them to make changes to our flights on our behalf. We feel like this is a fair response.

Dear J E Winchester, Thank you very much for taking the time to write your review of Kensington Tours. We appreciate the extensive detail you provided, and we are happy to read you enjoyed your trip overall. However, we are so sorry to read of the hiccups with your flight, and the last minute change that caused logistical issues. It is too bad you did not get a lot of time to see the lights. We have been in touch with your Travel Agent to discuss your feedback with them. Thank you so much for your time in providing us feedback, as we take it very seriously. The "luxury" is ... the jury's out

I decided to find out about "luxury travel" and bought a $10k trip through Germany and Austria. 2 nights in Munich (bayerishen hof hotel) with a private tour guide. First class train ticket to Salzburg, for dinner and a Mozart concert at the fortress; one night (hotel Auersperg). First class train to Vienna for 2 nights (Kaiserhof hotel) and a 2hr private strudel making seminar with diploma. Private drivers everywhere. All the hotels had cheap motel linens that made me cold sweat every night. Every King or Queen sized bed was actually 2 single beds pushed together (I don't know if this is a European thing, but large mattresses do exist). I got 2 left slippers at the bayerishen hof. My first driver in Munich showed up at the airport with a "Disney Tours" sign and I couldn't find him. 2nd driver in Munich left me at the train station 1hr early. 3rd driver in Salzburg was cool. 4th driver in Salzburg showed up 2hrs early for the train. I said I'm not ready, he said "he's here on time." I told him to go away and I'd get a cab later, he decided to come back at the correct time. 4th driver in Vienna was super cool. 5th driver in Vienna didn't even show up until 15min after I called the emergency number (to get to the airport). Neither of the train tickets were "first class" because there was a "first class" car that my seat was not in. I was in "business class" I guess. The strudel seminar wasn't private, it was a room of 50 people. It wasn't 2hrs, it was 45min. There was no diploma. The private tour guide was great. Dinner and a concert at the fortress was great. But I could have bought both those things on TripAdvisor for a couple hundred bucks, and the train tickets with seat reservations were around 60 euro. So I spent Nine Thousand Dollars (😐) on single beds that made me sweat through the night, and drivers who mostly didn't show up on time. (If you're passing this feedback along...) The second hotel tried to charge me $219 for the one night stay, until somebody looked something up to find out it was already paid for. Nobody met me at any of my destinations for a welcome meeting to go over the itinerary (as your docs suggests); instead I got DHL'd the same trip itinerary I already had, and now I need to walk around with a folder and sheets of paper like an obvious tourist. (This is how people get robbed) Also your app doesn't work. It only shows the original trip itinerary, not the one you customized and are actually going on. Which makes the app pointless. Everyone I met seemed like this was the first time they were working with, our heard of your company. Make of that what you will. The 4th driver (who picked me up at the train in Vienna) was the only one who seemed like he had any experience in luxury transportation. I don't make requests, but all the hotel staff were perfectly helpful and informative when I needed them. For instance... The staff at the Kaiserhof were offering to get me a cab to the airport in 5 minutes, while we were Google mapping the traffic to figure out if my private transportation had just forgotten about me. Luckily... I'm used to traveling adversely. If I was some bougie rich fool with my head up my bum, getting off the plane with nothing but your printed itinerary; I would probably still be lost in Eastern Europe right now. UPDATE 2: All of the above is accurate (sans the snarky ending, maybe). However... I received a few very apologetic emails, a credit for a future trip, and I just randomly got an alert that they issued a refund to my card (1/15/24) Travel usually isn't a thing you get refunds for, because it's all services that get rendered. So I didn't ask for any of that in our communications. I say this to point out that another takeaway from this review should be that this company doesn't believe this trip reflects the quality of its services. I hear that. One experience shouldn't define their entire service. I'm going to book another trip, and likely update this review again. Second chances make for great stories. ... I still wish they did luxury car rentals. Not Sixt. Like an R8 Spyder or an Aston Volante; instead of train rides.

Dear Aaron, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your experience using Kensington Tours. We hope you are enjoying the holiday season and look forward to being in touch. Thank you for your valuable feedback, - The Team at Kensington Tours

As a Travel Advisor

As a Travel Advisor, it is really important to have our suppliers provide a great experience for our clients. We are trusting them to take care of our clients and I can honestly say, Kensington Tours did it again. Here is my clients' testimonial: I apologize for the late response. We had the most amazing time. Everything was perfect. It's hard to put into words. This was definitely a trip of a lifetime. You did a fantastic job planning and organizing everything. It's too hard to pick a favorite experience, everything was a fav. The cooking class was incredible. Chef David was an awesome teacher, so patient. We all enjoyed it immensely. The food was fantastic and we left there stuffed. He shared the recipes with us and I'm looking forward to making them again. All our guides were incredible, knowledgeable and friendly. We did have a couple favorites. Our guide for the tour on Oct 2nd to the Doge's Palace and St Mark's Square was very good, extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Our guide on Oct 7th was by far our fav. We were able to have her request to do our tour on Oct 9th also. She was very friendly and easy to talk with. She made the tours very exciting, enjoyable and joked with us. She had a wealth of knowledge and made everything interesting. By the end of our time with her we were inviting her to come to the US and stay with us. Our driver on Oct 12th went over and above his driver duties. He made the necessary phone calls to get us in the city office and we were able to obtain a copy of our grandma's birth record . Again Thank You. This trip was everything we hoped it would be and more. Incredible trip Rose and family

Kensington Tours/Russel Andrews -India Tour

We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the exceptional service and seamless experience we had during our recent trip to India, meticulously arranged by Russell Andrews and the Kensington Tours team. From the very beginning of our journey to its conclusion, every aspect of the trip was flawlessly executed. Russell, your attention to detail and personalized touch truly made a significant difference in our travel experience. We felt like every need was anticipated and catered to, creating a sense of comfort and relaxation throughout the entire trip. The itinerary crafted by Russel and Kensington Tours allowed us to explore the beauty of India effortlessly. From the hotel accommodations, the selection of sites, the attention to our preferences were remarkable. Each Representative and Guide met the satisfaction in every detail, even with the set back due to heavy fog causing delay with our Train and flight service. Russell, "Thank you" you for your professionalism, expertise, dedication and patience in ensuring that our journey was not only memorable but also stress-free. Our interactions with the entire Kensington Tours team (partners) were positive, and we felt well taken care of at every step. The smooth coordination of logistics, the knowledge and friendliness of the local guides, and the overall efficiency of the operation left a lasting impression on us. A special shout out to Hariom Yadav our driver as well. Our trip to India was beyond our expectations, thanks to the efforts of Russell Andrew and the entire Kensington Tours team. We are incredibly grateful for the wonderful memories created during this journey, and we will undoubtedly recommend your services to friends and family. Awesome Egypt - Cairo, Alexandria, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel

My wife and I took a two week Egypt package starting 18 Sep - just before the current troubles. Moe Sami was the sales guy and he was excellent. I did not find the pricing out of line with other estimates. Sorry for the long review. - MEDI Travel appears to be the in-country agent for Egypt. The Kensington/MEDI crew were awesome. We were met EVERYWHERE and at every stop by multiple reps - At every airport arrival/departure we were escorted through as much of the immigration/security apparatus as was possible by a MEDI "fixer". - MEDI uses local, free lance tour guides. Ours were awesome with EXCELLENT English. Not surprisingly all were licensed in Egypt and 20+ years experience. We had Sally in Cairo, Ayman in Alexandria, Ali from Luxor to Aswan, and Hamad (I think) at Abu Simbel. All drivers were SUPERB. - Hotels were great. During the trip planning phase I felt like there might be better hotels available but I deferred to Moe. When you are in Giza, I just can't think of a better location than the Marriott Mena. Our room and every hotel meal faced the pyramids. The pyramids are not off in the distance, They are right in front of you. Great pool. Luxor Hilton was nice but we arrived late in the evening and departed early so did not get to enjoy it. Ritz in Cairo was also very, very nice - a four day river cruise on Sonesta St George was part of the package. SUPERB ship staff. We've never been on a river cruise. Wait until you see the Nile River cruise activity. I think it is unique. There are a huge number of cruise boats on the river and the whole scene is controlled chaos. Now that we've completed the trip, I think the river cruise was the best way for us to see the sights from Luxor to Aswan - Avoiding travel sickness. We decided that our priority was to see the sights of Egypt so we were super strict on avoiding raw foods of any type. No issues. I did buy a GRAYL water filter and it worked awesome for times when we needed water. BTW - because most of the bathrooms at tourist sites are attended, they are very clean!! - Tipping. I see comments from travelers that feel the "tipping culture" is a scam. I do not see it that way. Tipping is a big part of the Egyptian travel industry and I'm comfortable with it. The Tipping Guide in the Kensington Country Guide was OUTSTANDING. We applied a lesson learned from a previous trip. Although you can buy local currency, it is always hard to find the small bills you need for porters, bathroom attendants. USD and Euros are accepted as tips everywhere. We took a couple thousand USD (with one hundred $1 bills) for all our tipping (guides, drivers, porters, etc). Maybe we were over tippers but I don't care. Kensington/MEDI people were always with us and I gave everyone of them a tip. The service was great and we felt welcome - This tour is medium to high exertion - the summer heat had still not dissipated. Hot as anything at Abu Simbel. Climbing in the pyramids is not for the faint of heart. The recurring thing I observed at all stops was the uneven footing because the floors you'll walk on are a combination of "new' stone, and the "original" stuff from 3000 years ago and its all mixed up!! - Don't wait to go if Egypt interests you. The longer you wait, the less you'll be able to do and explore.

Date of experience : September 18, 2023

Hello Abutah, Thank you for sharing your detailed and positive experience of your trip to Egypt. It's great to hear that Moe Sami provided excellent service during the planning phase. The Kensington/MEDI team in Egypt clearly made your journey exceptional with their assistance at every step. Your insights on hotels, river cruising, food precautions, and tipping are valuable for future travelers. We appreciate your recommendation to visit Egypt sooner rather than later. Your comprehensive review is truly appreciated! -The Team at Kensington Tours

My trip of a lifetime to Egypt

I recently traveled to Egypt with a group of 12 family and friends. I found the trip to be far beyond my expectations as did the rest of the group. All of the hotel accommodations were superior. The hotels had excellent service, were very clean, and had great restaurants. As part of our trip, we cruised the Nile aboard the Dahabyia Kemet. The Kemet was exceptional in all respects - from the decor, service, and food to the overall experience. There were unanticipated stops for a night of dancing at a local village and for a bar-b-que dinner under the stars. We could have not asked for anything more. We had two guides during the Egypt portion of our trip - Ali from Luxor to Aswan and Kadrina in Cairo. Both were extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The group actually felt like we had two more friends traveling with us. We also had Kensington travel assistants at each hotel location that helped us with everything from getting to/from the airport (including ticketing, customs, etc.) to assistance at hotel check in, as well as helping us in arranging a few minor itinerary changes we requested. They repeatedly told us that they would help us in whatever way possible to make sure we were having the trip we had dreamed of. Simply having their assistance at the airport was so helpful and made that part of the travel experience stress free. I would add that between the guides and the travel assistants, they timed our visits to the tour sites so that we avoided the majority of the crowds which was amazing. I would also add that we were traveling during a time when there was significant unrest in Israel and Gaza. All of the Kensington representatives made sure we felt safe and that we never encountered any situations where we felt uncomfortable. We had a number of meals included in our travel package. All of the food was very good. We did get a bit tired of mixed grill. However, it was understandable that a group of our size would be served a set menu and the restaurants would assume that we would want to try what is thought of as being typical Egyptian fare. I truly appreciate the time and effort that Moe Sami, our Kensington Destination Expert, provided in planning this trip for our group. As leader for our group, I relied on Moe to provide guidance on what the best itinerary would be. He worked diligently with me to make sure we saw all the sites we asked to see plus suggested places/experiences we had not even thought of. I had aa dream of visiting the Hotel Cataract and although it is very difficult to get dinner reservations at this hotel, especially for a group of 12, Moe somehow made arrangements for us to have dinner there. That was just one of the experiences that I will never forget. The most difficult part of our trip was dealing with all of the tipping. Although forewarned by Kensington that tipping for any minor service should be expected, we did not anticipate the level of tipping that would be needed. In hindsight, we should have budgeted significantly more dollars for tips and carried additional US dollars. ATM's are readily available but would only dispense a minimal amount of Egyptian dollars and all in large denominations. In summary, this trip was a trip that was beyond all expectations. I have been lucky enough to travel extensively and I can honestly say that this was one of the best travel experiences I have had and I thank all of the Kensington representatives for that.

Dear Malinda, We want to thank you so much for your detailed review, and all the time you have graciously given providing important feedback. We are so happy to read about such a wonderful experience. We have been working hard to deliver the luxury service we always boast in destinations that are still safe to travel to, even during such unrest. It is so nice to read how that hard work positively impacted your travels. Thank you for your kind words for your guides, Ali and Kadrina, which we will certainly pass on to them. 'Traveling with friends' is the type of service we aim for with our local suppliers. It makes a world of a difference for your trip! With such a large group, we love to read that Moe made the planning process a lot easier for you - that's what we are best at. The visas and borders can add stress to your precious time, and we are proud to offer the kind of assistance upon arrival that you received. Malinda, we thank you again for your message. Looking forward to hosting a trip for you again soon. Sincerely, - The Team at Kensington Tours

From the beaches of Normandy to Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest, this tour hits the highlights of the American WWII war effort, with special stops focused on collectively honoring the sacrifice of our American heroes. We follow the path from D-Day to V-E Day, roughly in the footsteps of the famous Easy Company, who were present for the most pivotal moments in the later years of war. This trip is tailored for patriots who want to pay their respects and learn new details along the way.

Detailed Highlights and Itinerary

Passengers are greeted at the Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris and transferred by coach to Normandy. After an orientation dinner to get to know your fellow patriots, we spend the next few days exploring the iconic shores of the Normandy Landings. Two days of this leg will focus on the American landing beaches Utah and Omaha, where we will pay our respects to the heroism that contributed to this battle that changed history. An entire day will focus on D-Day anniversary ceremonies, giving Passengers a chance to commemorate the occasion. We then visit the British landing beaches, where our fellow Allied troops fought to secure a foothold in Europe.

Private Normandy Tours

Undeniably, Normandy is one of the key provinces of France, and it is certainly one of its richest and most delightful regions. The fact that Romans, Vikings, the British, Germans and French have all fought over it for over two millennia suggests just how much it has to offer. Easily accessible from Paris, each of our private Normandy tours focuses on distinct facets of its rich history and culture. These private tours expose our clients to the area’s unique culture, architecture and culinary delights; and for each one we provide a private guide who speaks English as natural first language and is a university trained expert in the history and culture of Normandy and France. Our guides are also expert drivers who drive our clients in upscale vehicles, for whom the safety and comfort of our clients are paramount considerations.

We offer a wide variety of private Normandy tours, including both day trip and overnight excursions. Our day tours from Paris can include: Giverny, Rouen, Honfleur, Bayeux, the great Norman Abbeys, different day tours of the Normandy Landing (D-Day) Beaches, a day tour in the steps of Claude Monet (visiting Norman towns identified with the master), and another day tour that takes you to several charming villages in Normandy (and one that is not), such as Lyons la Forêt. Other options for day tours from Paris include the ruins of Richard the Lion Heart’s medieval fortress, Château Gaillard in Les Andelys, the compelling cliffs and resort of Étretat, and the André Malraux Museum of Modern Art (MuMA) in Le Havre.

Kensington Tours Review (My HONEST Experience)

I recently came across Kensington Tours, a company that specializes in creating customized, private-guided trips. I was impressed by their website, and decided to take a trip through them.

Kensington Tours offers a wide range of trips, including group and small group tours. They cater to various interests and preferences which makes them an attractive option for diverse groups of travelers. In particular, I was impressed to find out that first-time customers were pleased with their experiences, praising the logistics, planning, and knowledgeable local guides provided by Kensington Tours.

In this article, I will be telling you my opinion of this tour-booking company, based on my experiences of travelling with them.

Overview of Kensington Tours

Kensington Tours Reviews

Kensington Tours can be worth your money if you select the correct packages. However, some people have faced problems, so be careful when booking.

This company also provides experienced guides who will take you through all the sightseeing places and accompany you on tour. They are mainly used for traveling to foreign countries where people need to learn more about the local scene. The guides will know the local language and can interact with the locals on your behalf.

You won’t have to worry about anything other than your flights to reach your destination.

Services Offered

During my research about Kensington Tours, I discovered that they provide customized itineraries and personalized travel experiences. A wonderful woman by the name of Amanda Jex was my destination lead, and she was very accommodating to the last-minute changes we made to the itineraries.

Kensington Tours made our multi-country trips stress-free with efficient logistical services, such as on-time drivers, clear signage, and convenient train tickets.

Kensington Tours delivered a great bespoke European vacation for my visit to Italy and Switzerland. The company listened carefully to my family’s desires and tailored the itinerary accordingly.

Destinations Covered

Kensington Tours offers a variety of trips to different parts of the world. Some of the popular destinations I found include:

  • Ultimate Ireland (Small Groups):  This 13-day group tour costs $7,775 and covers iconic Irish attractions.
  • Northern Lights Escape:  A 6-day small group tour priced at $2,340, with a focus on chasing the mesmerizing aurora borealis.
  • Iceland Discovery:  This 8-day small group tour, costing $3,950, takes travelers to the stunning landscapes of Iceland.
  • Everest Base Camp Trek:  An adventurous small group tour that brings participants on a trek to the base camp of Mount Everest.

Pros and Cons of Kensington Tours

Kensington Tours gives exceptional service, tailored itineraries, and knowledgeable local travel guides. The company offers a wide range of  interesting trips  catering to diverse interests and preferences, such as small group tours in Ireland, Northern Lights escapes, and Everest Base Camp treks. Their flexibility and customization options make them appealing to travelers looking for unique or personalized experiences.

In addition to the impressive variety of tours, I was also happy with the accommodations, transportation, and overall logistics provided by Kensington Tours. Their level of organization and attention to detail contributed to a smooth and stress-free travel experience.

However, there have been instances where some travelers had  less than satisfactory experiences  with Kensington Tours. It’s important to note that discrepancies in service quality or tour expectations can happen with any tour operator and do not necessarily reflect the overall offerings of the company.

My main gripe with them is that they charge a very high cancellation fee ($350 per person). This makes it difficult to book a trip with them if you are not sure about when exactly you will be departing.

Nonetheless, potential issues to be aware of include inadequate accommodations or miscommunication in terms of expectations and itineraries . To avoid disappointment, I recommend doing thorough research on the specific tour you are interested in and reading multiple reviews to gather a well-rounded understanding of what to expect.

Can You Cancel Tours On Kensington Tours?

All cancellations of confirmed reservations on Kensington Tours will face a penalty of $350 per person. You will receive a full refund only if you cancel the tour 90 days before departure.

If you cancel a booked tour 60-89 days before departure, the penalty paid will be 30% of the booking price. Any canceled trip 30-59 days before the tour will face a loss of 50% of the program price.

Any tour cancellation about 29 days before departure won’t qualify for a refund. The cancellation fees will be 100% of the program price.

How To Get Refunds From Kensington Tours?

You need to contact customer support to get a refund from Kensington Tours. You have the option to call them or send them an email on their registered email ID.

They levy heavy cancellation charges even if you cancel a month in advance. They won’t be responsible for the cancellation fees imposed by the airlines and other associated services.

Is It Better To Trave With A Tour Company Or On Your Own?

It is better to go with a tour company if you are traveling to a different country. However, arranging the trip yourself is better when traveling within your own country.

When visiting foreign countries, you will face many cultural and language barriers. These issues can cause trouble in planning your perfect trip.

Additionally, you may miss out on good tourist spots in foreign countries. This will not happen on guided tours since they know them all.

However, if you are familiar with the country and its language, you can travel alone. It will be a fun experience if you have the time to research properly.

All in all, just adopt this rule of thumb 👉 Domestic Travel – Travel on your own; International Travel – Travel with a tour company.

Final Remarks

In this article, I tried to give you an honest depiction of what traveling with Kensington Tours might look like.

I would suggest you try Kensington Tours if you have the budget. Just be sure to be clear in your communications and what you expect from the trip, especially the itineraries.

Day 1 : Fly to England

Board an overnight flight to London to begin this journey of a lifetime.

Day 2 : Tower of London

Upon arrival in Europe, we meet our resident Blue Badge Guide whose passion for British history and traditions enhance our experience. Departing the airport, our first stop is the Tower of London. Founded by William the Conqueror in 1066, this enduring fortress houses both Britain’s Crown Jewels and a medieval collection of armory and weaponry. Its ancient stone walls hold some of the city’s darkest secrets, and we are privy to a few of them during our narrated tour. We then check in to our incredible accommodations for the next three evenings and get to know our fellow travelers over a delicious three-course Welcome Dinner.

Day 3 : Thames River Cruise & Afternoon Tea

After an included full English breakfast, we visit the Churchill War Rooms, part of the underground nerve center of Britain’s war effort. Explore the secret corridors, discover life during World War II, and learn about Churchill’s leadership and legacy. Next, we relax on a delightful cruise with views of Tower Bridge as we travel down the Thames River to Westminster Pier. Later, we partake in a favorite pastime of locals, Afternoon Tea. It is truly the perfect end to our day’s scheduled activities as we dine on a delicious array of bite-size savories, sip expertly steeped tea, and enjoy the comfort of easy conversation with our new acquaintances.

Day 4 : Imperial War Museum & Windsor Castle

Our sightseeing this morning begins with a visit to the Imperial War Museum, which houses authentic examples of World War II weaponry and an exhibit of World War I trench warfare. We then tour Windsor Castle, private home of British royalty as well as the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. Marvel at the magnificent architecture and opulent interior, including the Grand Reception Room that’s adorned with real gold and sparkling chandeliers. Afterwards, the rest of the day is yours for individual exploration.

Day 5 : Portsmouth & Ferry to France

We say farewell to London and travel to England’s south coast. Upon arrival in Portsmouth we visit the award-winning D-Day Museum before boarding a ferry to cross the English Channel to France.

Day 6 : D-Day Sites

We are joined by a special World War II guide to learn about famous battle events. Spend a poignant morning at Omaha Beach, one of the five beaches making up the landing for the D-Day invasion by Allied troops. We study the battlefield, cross the beach, analyze maps, and pay tribute to the courage that guarded our freedom. The American Cemetery stretches along the bluff where we may offer our respects among the hundreds of Crosses and Stars of David for the deceased. Our next visit is Arromanches, the renowned site of Mulberry Harbor. This artificial port and dock carried thousands of Allied troops and cargo across the Channel during wartime. Portions of it remain today.

Day 7 : Normandy Sites

Joined by our World War II guide, we spend the morning at the Pointe-du-Hoc Ranger Monument located on a sheer cliff overlooking Omaha Beach. Americans seized the German artillery equipment here, preventing fire on American troops landing on the beach. This afternoon we visit St. Mére Église, seized by American paratroopers on D-Day. Hear the riveting story of American Private John Steele and visit the Airborne Museum. Next, we visit Utah Beach, the westernmost beach during the Allied Landings. Later, we view the Bayeux Tapestry which tells the tale of William the Conqueror’s invasion of England.

Day 8 : Monet’s Garden

Today we begin our journey to Paris. En route we visit the charming village of Giverny and stroll the gardens and visit the home of famous Impressionist artist Claude Monet.

Day 9 : Paris City Tour

We discover the enchanting sights of romantic Paris, the City of Light. On a guided tour we see the Champs Elysees Avenue, Notre Dame Cathedral, Eiffel Tower, and Arc de Triomphe. The afternoon is ours to enjoy at leisure. Relax at a sidewalk cafe, do some shopping, or visit city sights. After dinner, a spectacular Seine River cruise creates a magical evening. Illuminated buildings, bridges, churches, and the Eiffel Tower create a dramatic backdrop in the night sky.

Day 10 : Iconic Louvre Museum

This morning, enjoy a guided tour of the world-renowned Louvre Museum and discover its many masterpieces. The afternoon is free for individual pursuits. Visit the Musee d’Orsay or stroll through The Tuileries Garden. We gather this evening for a special Holiday Vacations Farewell Dinner in Paris, the perfect ending to our extraordinary vacation.

Day 11 : Fly Home

Our journey of a lifetime begins with an overnight flight to London.

Upon arriving in Europe, we meet our resident Blue Badge Guide whose passion for British history and traditions enhances our experience. Departing the airport, our first stop on our city tour is the Tower of London to see Britain’s Crown Jewels and a medieval collection of armory and weaponry. We then check in to our comfortable accommodations for the next three evenings and get to know fellow travelers over a delicious Welcome Dinner.

Day 3 : Churchill War Rooms & Thames River Cruise

After a full English breakfast, we visit the Churchill War Rooms, part of the underground nerve center of Britain’s war effort during World War II. Next, we relax on a delightful cruise with views of Tower Bridge while gliding down the Thames River to Westminster Pier. Our day concludes with a quintessential experience and favorite pastime of locals – afternoon tea. Dine on a delicious array of bite-size savories, sip expertly steeped tea, and enjoy socializing with new friends.

Our sightseeing this morning begins with a visit to the Imperial War Museum, which houses authentic examples of World War II weaponry and an exhibit of World War I trench warfare. We then tour Windsor Castle, a private home of British royalty as well as the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. Marvel at the magnificent architecture and opulent interior, including the Grand Reception Room that’s adorned with real gold and sparkling chandeliers. Afterwards, enjoy dinner on your own and a free evening to relax or explore.

We say farewell to London and travel to England’s South Coast today. Arriving in Portsmouth, we tour the award-winning D-Day Story, a museum with personal accounts of people who experienced Operation Overlord during the Normandy D-Day landings. Later, a ferry brings us across the English Channel to Caen, France. Our accommodations are in Bayeux.

Day 6 : Omaha Beach & American Cemetery

A special World War II guide joins us for a poignant day as we learn about the largest seaborne invasion in history. Our first stop is Omaha Beach, one of the five beaches making up the landing for the D-Day invasion by Allied troops. Next, take in sights of the Normandy American Cemetery stretching along the bluff and pay tribute to the courageous individuals who guarded freedom, then tour the Overlord Museum. After lunch on your own, our journey continues to Arromanches-les-Baines, the renowned site of Mulberry Harbor, to visit the newly built museum and take in a 360° cinematic recount of events. This artificial port carried millions of Allied troops and cargo across the Channel during the war; portions of it remain today. The evening is at your leisure.

Day 7 : Pointe-du-Hoc & Utah Beach

Our in-depth tour with a World War II guide continues this morning as we see the Pointe-du-Hoc Ranger Monument, located on a sheer cliff overlooking Omaha Beach. Americans seized German artillery equipment here, preventing fire on incoming American troops. We then visit St. Sainte-Mere Église, the first French town to be liberated during the D-Day invasion by American paratroopers. Learn more about this military division and hear the riveting story of American Private John Steele at the nearby Airborne Museum, then explore Utah Beach, the westernmost beach of the Allied Landings. Later, we view the Bayeux Tapestry, which tells the tale of William the Conqueror’s invasion of England. Tonight, our group gathers for a delicious dinner together.

Day 8 : Monet's House & Gardens

Enjoy picturesque vistas of the French countryside today on our drive to the charming village of Giverny, home to Impressionist painter Claude Monet. We visit Monet’s house and gardens to soak up the beautiful scenery that inspired some of his most famous paintings. Later, we arrive in Paris and settle into our accommodations, then spend an evening at leisure.

Day 9 : Paris City Tour & Sunset Cruise

We discover the enchanting sights of romantic Paris this morning on a guided tour, including the Notre Dame Cathedral, Eiffel Tower, Champs Elysees Avenue, and Arc de Triomphe. Afterwards, the day is yours to relax at a sidewalk cafe, go shopping, or visit the city’s fascinating attractions. As the sun sets, our group gathers for a spectacular Seine River cruise. Delight in a magical evening as the City of Light softly glows with illuminated buildings, bridges, and churches, creating a dramatic backdrop in the night sky.

Day 10 : Iconic Musee d'Orsay

Our last full day in France begins with a guided tour of the world-renowned Musee d’Orsay. Browse the world’s largest collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist masterpieces by famous artists, such as van Gogh. This afternoon, take advantage of leisure time to pursue your individual interests. Later, we savor a lovely Farewell Dinner at Le Train Bleu.

We return home today with incredible memories of our adventures in Europe.
