Lamayuru to Alchi Ladakh trekking in India

This trekking tour takes place between Lamayuru and Alchi, and it is an excellent combination of ancient Buddhist monasteries and the natural beauty of Ladakh. This relatively short trek starts at the legendary Lamayuru Monastery, which lies in lower Ladakh.

Lamayuru was once a lake. It is believed that a monk who was taken aback by the natural beauty of the body of water moved it up the hills, leaving vacant the spot where the monastery stands today. This 10th-century Buddhist monastery is one of the oldest in the region. Alchi is a unique monastery built in a deep location, unlike most Buddhist monasteries built on high ridges. This three-storied monastery from the 11th century lies close to the banks of the Indus River.

Lamayuru is some 125 km to the west of Leh and is one of Ladakh’s most ancient and spectacular monasteries. The Gompa was remarkably built on sandstone by Rinchen Zangpo: dating back to the 11th century. Some of the best frescoes and murals representing the Kashmiri style of Buddhist iconography are inside this monastery.

About lamayuru alchi trek.

Lamayuru Alchi Trek reflects the indigenous colours of the lifestyle of Indo-Tibetans. It opens doors for witnessing the rich history of the region that can be witnessed in the scriptoriums and walls of ancient monasteries of Ladakh.

Off the Kargil-Leh road to Photu La ramp, a spiritual trail of Lamayuru Alchi cuts its way following the legendary caravan track exhibiting the rich and diverse landscape of the Sham Valley. The major highlights on this trek in Ladakh are the Lamayuru Monastery followed by Prinkti La at 3750m and the Alchi Monastery en route the isolated hamlets like Ursi, Mang Gyu and Gera. The difficult yet the most intriguing part of the Lamayuru Alchi Trek for the adventurists is the steep trail to Tar La at 5250m after crossing Ursi Village. Thus even after being one of the spiritual treks in the Ladakh region, which mainly attracts the Buddhist pilgrims, the trek passing through the windy and rugged terrain of Ladakh pulls in trekkers from different parts of the world. It allows explorers to witness the rich native culture.

Moderate Trek

Lamayuru Alchi Trek

Area: Ladakh Himalayas Duration: 08 Nights & 09 Days Grade: Moderate Altitude: 4300 mts/17220 ft Season: July- Oct

The Lamayuru Alchi trek is one of the popular treks in the Ladakh region that takes you on a spectacular journey to the earliest surviving monasteries dating back to the 10th - 11th century. The Ladakh region is often dubbed as the 'land of high mountain passes and monks', as the topography brings forth several ancient trading routes that used to connect Ladakh, India, with Tibet. It influenced the Tibetan sects to set up their settlements and over the year the Ladakh region started to reflect the traditional colours of Buddhism and thus ramping up monasteries exposing the unique Tibetan architectural style. From the pious Lamayuru Alchi trek one can mull over the ancient indo - Tibetan culture flaming from the collection of various ancient manuscripts, chortens and paintings. The journey allows you to step into the Lamayuru monastery, which is one of the oldest monasteries in the region, and the popular Alchi monastery, which is a monastic complex of temples in Alchi village and administered by Likir monastery. Nonetheless, along with the cultural diorama, the trek crossing through several high altitude mountain passes like the Prinkiti La 3,720 meters, Penji La at 3,400 meters, Konski La 4,950 meters and Stakspi La and remote villages offers a vivid view of the farfetched meadows and valleys.

Geographic coordinates of Elektrostal, Moscow Oblast, Russia

Coordinates of elektrostal in decimal degrees, coordinates of elektrostal in degrees and decimal minutes, utm coordinates of elektrostal, geographic coordinate systems.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
