East 17 official website

East 17: one of the most iconic british boy bands.

East 17 — is a British music band, performing pop-rock, dance-pop, hip hop and rap. In 1990 this band was one of the most popular boy bands in the UK — the musicians sold over 18 mln records all over the world and their songs remained at the top of all the music charts for over 6 years in a row.

The band was found in 1991, when a 20 year old Tony Mortimer, an ambitious singer and songwriter contacted London Records recording studio.

The young artist was asked to form a band, this was the only way the producers would work with his materials. East 17 was formed of Tony’s friends, John Handy, Terry Coldwell and Brian Harvey.

The name of the band originates from the area where the boys lived and its postcode, E17 Walthamstow.

Tony Mortimer was mainly in charge of the song writing, while Brian Harvey requalified from being the backing vocalist and dancer and came to the front as the lead singer and the frontman.

Everything You Need to Know About East 17 – From Their Early Days to Now!

1992-1997: fame.

It was not long till the talented band became really popular and gained a huge fan following. The music was described as “political, strong and stylish”. In a few years those bad boys with tattoos took over the absolute hit chart leaders of the time – boy band «Take That» with by Robbie Williams.

The singles from their debut album “Walthamstow” (named after their home town) were coming out of every single speaker and radio station, and the song “It’s Alright” quickly became number 1 hit in Britain, as well as in Europe and Australia.

The secret to such success was not only in their cool look, but also in their lyrics – they contained political content on the most current topics: war, peace, equality, love etc.

The next 2 albums “Steam”  and  “Up All Night”, released in 1994 and 1995 were equally successful. During this time the band was touring a lot and even visited the Sports Complex “Olimpijski” in Russia.

1997-2010: New creative era

In 1997 Tony Mortimer decided to leave the band due to some tension between its members. Renamed into “E-17” the band continued performing, releasing their new album “Resurrection” — however without the signature touch of the band founder Tony Mortimer, the songs turned out to be completely different.

After years of discussions, Tony Mortimer came back to the band in 2010, taking over the reign of the scandalous Harvey. A new album called «Dark Light», was released and the band slowly transitioned into rock. Tony Mortimer did not last long and in 2013 he went solo again.

2013-present

Tony Mortimer departed for the third time in 2013. Robbie Craig later joined East 17 in early 2014. John Hendy and Terry Coldwell became the only original members in the group at that stage.

In 2017, East 17 partook in B*Witched’s Australia & NZ Tour as a supporting act alongside Atomic Kitten, S Club 3, and Liberty X. During this time, the band released their sixth studio album, 24/7, exclusively in Australia, titling it 24/7: Australian Tour Edition.

In June 2018, John Hendy departed the group, citing personal reasons. Since then, Terry John joined the band as Hendy’s replacement, performed with them at numerous shows, but eventually also left and was replaced by Joe Livermore.

On 27 August 2021, East 17 released 24/7 internationally. On 27 May 2022, East 17 released a new single, said to be from an upcoming album, called “I Just Wanna”.

Recent tour reviews

The lead singer and frontman of East 17 Brian Harvey was one of the most prolific pop performers of the 90s and was credited to a large amount of the group's success. However due to numerous creative difficulties and personal issues he is no longer affiliated with the twice reformed pop band and now they continue to tour as a trio.

With five classic albums in the discography and a new recording it is fair to say that East 17 have enough material to keep the crowds engaged. Due to their huge popularity in the 90s there is also a fanbase that toe the line between the nostalgic and the genuine. Either way, the venue is full to the brim as the three musicians step onstage and begin their show. The screams remain as though the clock has been turned back to 1995 while the room is soundtracked by the likes of 'Deep' and 'Its Alright'. Good pop songs don't seem to age thanks to the likes of radio play and TV advertising keeping them in the public's consciousness so it is no surprise that the crowd sing along in force to 'Stay Another Day' and 'Wild'.

Brian Harvey - the man who, for all intents and purposes, has served, on and off, as the frontman of East 17 for the past couple of decades - is a man who can reel off a great many achievements over the course of his life, chief amongst them running himself over with his own car after he leant out of the driver’s door to be sick, having consumed a frankly gluttonous lunch of three jacket potatoes with tuna and mayonnaise. When it comes to the band themselves, though, you have to credit them with being far more than just the guys who wrote the Christmas hit ‘Stay Another Day’, a track notable for sounding festive, and yet not actually having any lyrical content that pertains directly to the event itself. Sure, that track - which was a Christmas number one for the group in 1994 - represents their commercial peak to date, but it’s also true that they’ve sold in excess of 1.8 million records worldwide, and have continued to live on in the public consciousness well past their commercial heyday. Today, they remain a going concern after reuniting in 2006, and released their fifth studio album, the considerably rockier Dark Light, back in 2012.

East 17 return in time for Christmas just weeks after ruling out a reunion

Nineties group East 17 are delighting fans this Christmas as they perform their 1994 hit Stay Another Day via private doorstep performances across the country in the run up to Christmas

East 17

  • 17:24, 12 Dec 2023

East 17 are making a Christmas comeback, complete with their white coats and performances of Stay Another Day.

The pop group shot to fame in the 90s and their song has become an iconic hit. The group are now set to delight fans with private doorstep performances, where the three current band members will sing their classic complete with their white puffer jackets.

Their hit Stay Another Day became known for beating Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You to the top spot, the hit single sold around 410,000 copies. The group originally consisted of Tony Mortimer, Brian Harvey, John Hendy, and Terry Coldwell in 1991. As of 2020, the group now consists of Terry Coldwell as the remaining member and Robbie Craig and Joe Livermore.

Commenting on their new venture, East 17 said: "It never gets old performing a song that means so much to us, especially around Christmas time, where Stay Another Day really took off. We're so excited to hit the road with Ring to perform to several of our fans, right on their doorstep!"

From today (December 12), Brits can book their own private show from East 17 through Design My Night and tickets are completely free. A ticket will be released every day from today until 12pm on December 15, with the tour coming to Manchester on December 18 and London on December 19.

The performances come as the iconic band collaborates with Ring Doorbell. As well as a song from East 17, those lucky enough to welcome the group will be gifted a free Ring Battery Video Doorbell Plus and a lifetime subscription to Ring Protect.

The nineties group was formed in 1991 in Walthamstow, London, and was named after the area's postcode. East 17 were one of the most popular bands of the 1990s, known for their more 'urban' style and music. To date, East 17 has sold more than 18 million albums worldwide.

The original lineup consisted of four members, with Terry Coldwell the only original member now still in the group. When asked if the band could reunite for the 30th anniversary of 1994 number one Stay Another Day by the BBC , he explained: "No one talks in the band, not one member. As you get older you have to be on the same page and we're just not on the same page. I've tried getting the band together so many times, spent so much energy doing it, but it's never come about."

Music | update: park fire reaches 6,465 acres — mandatory evacuation orders for numerous zones, music | review: rolling stones fans find complete ‘satisfaction’ at levi’s stadium, mick jagger leads band in 2-hour show.

east 17 tour

Well, the Stones are far from being “England’s Newest” anything these days, but they still came across as incredibly fresh and vibrant as they brought the Hackney Diamonds Tour to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Wednesday (July 17).

It was an amazing showing by the three remaining Stones — all of whom are age 77 or older — and one that nicely illustrated why AARP would decide to sponsor this roadshow. Because if Mick Jagger is what 80 looks like, then, well, sign all of us up.

Jagger, as per usual, was nothing short of miraculous as he worked the full house during a 20-song set that ran approximately two hours. The show began at right around 9 p.m., following an opening set by Canadian rock act The Beaches, and Jagger was still going strong — racing up and down the catwalk that extended from the large mainstage and into the crowd on the floor — as the clock ticked towards 11 p.m. (A representative for the 49ers, who operate the stadium, explained that the team had received an exemption to the regular 10 p.m. weekday curfew rule for this show.)

The group — which also consists of longtime guitarists Ronnie Wood (77) and Keith Richards (80) — kicked off the show in appropriate fashion, revving through the “Tattoo You” anthem “Start Me Up,” and then followed up with the first-tier classics “Get Off of My Cloud” and “Tumbling Dice.”

The Hackney Diamonds Tour supports last year’s album of the same name, which is the group’s first collection of original material in nearly 20 years and has earned solid reviews from both critics and fans.

This injection of new material has obviously been great for the Stones, stirring up creative juices that haven’t really been put to use since 2005’s “A Bigger Bang,” and the band members seemed particularly inspired whenever they turned to a “Hackney Diamonds” track in concert.

Mick Jagger and The Rolling Stones perform during their Hackney...

The first new cut on the setlist was the album’s lead single, “Angry,” which scored a nomination for best rock song — but ended up losing to Boygenius’ “Not Strong Enough” — at this year’s Grammy Awards. The group was really on a roll as they entered “Angry” territory, having just finished up three straight fan favorites, and the fact that the new song didn’t derail the party one iota is a testament to the strength of “Hackney Diamonds.”

They’d find similar success with the new material a few songs later, offering up a muscular take on “Bite My Head Off” — which is about as punk rock as the Stones get in 2024 — as well as a memorable version of “Mess It Up.” They’d also include a lovely rendition of “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” in the encore.

Jagger was the undeniable bright star throughout the show, operating in full cheerleader mode as he used his moves and vocals to continually push the evening to even greater heights. He also took time to charm the crowd, showing his sports acumen as he gave his blessing to the hometown 49ers.

“Next year, I’m looking forward to you guys winning the Super Bowl,” Jagger said, noting the 10th anniversary of Levi’s Stadium before adding a sports wish that is a bit more personal to his heart: “Maybe England can win the World Cup.”

The consummate frontman further bonded with the audience as he looked back at the long history that the band has with the Bay Area.

“We first came here 59 years ago, if you believe it,” he said. “There was no Silicon Valley. But there was the Cow Palace. I can still smell it.”

The biggest difference between this concert and Stones shows of yore was, of course, the absence of Charlie Watts. This was the first time that the group had played in the Bay Area since the acclaimed drummer died at the age of 80 in 2021. And his presence was greatly missed, to the point where — at times — it just didn’t feel like it was the Stones as you looked up at the stage and didn’t see Watts behind the kit.

Drummer Steve Jordan performs with The Rolling Stones perform during their Hackney Diamonds tour at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Wednesday, July 17, 2024. (Jane Tyska/Bay Area News Group)

The rest of the touring band is also splendid, consisting of bassist Darryl Jones, saxophonists Karl Denson and Tim Ries, multi-instrumentalist Matt Clifford, keyboardist Chuck Leavell and backing vocalists Bernard Fowler and Chanelle Haynes.

Haynes got her chance to shine during an fiery version of “Gimme Shelter” late in the set, backing up Jagger with those impassioned lines first set to wax by Merry Clayton on the opening track of the 1969 album “Let It Bleed.”

Wood was on top of game on this night, delivering a steady string of meaty leads on such songs as “Bite My Head Off” and “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” while picking up the slack from Richards’ somewhat diminished role in the production.

The Stones didn’t hold anything back as they approached the finish line, rolling right through “Honky Tonk Women,” “Midnight Rambler” and other favorites before finishing up the main set with the always fun “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.”

Then the group returned to deliver “Sweet Sounds of Heaven” before closing up shop with — what else? — “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.” Fans then left the building and made their way out into the night, looking every bit as satisfied as ever.

SEVENTEEN singer/producer WOOZI recently responded to a British new feature’s claim that the K-pop group is using AI when recording its music. The singer who also co-writes many of the group’s songs, clarified that “all of SEVENTEEN’s music is written and composed by human creators,” though he said he has experimented with writing and composing lyrics with AI.

K-pop group Seventeen unveils 2024 world tour, includes US stops

T he world-renowned K-pop group Seventeen teased their upcoming US tour in April, and now, it’s confirmed—the teaser for their world tour has finally been released.

The internationally acclaimed K-pop group officially unveiled their highly anticipated world tour, titled “Right Here,” which is set to kick off in October.

Carats, the devoted fans of the group, have been eagerly awaiting details of the tour, and the recent announcement confirms that Seventeen will venture on an extensive journey across continents.

The tour is scheduled to commence in South Korea before making its way to the United States, Japan and other Asian countries, marking another significant chapter in the group’s impressive global presence.

This announcement follows the recent release of Seventeen’s compilation album, “17 Is Right Here.” At a press conference for the album in April, Joshua, one of the group’s members, excitedly shared the news of their upcoming US tour.

He further highlighted the group’s enthusiasm for returning to American stages after their successful “Be The Sun” tour in 2022.

The “Right Here” tour will continue the group’s tradition of synchronized performances, following in the footsteps of their previous North American tours, including “Ode to You” and “Be The Sun,” which saw the 13-member-group headlining arenas across the US and Canada.

With their latest compilation album featuring four new tracks—“Maestro,” “Lalali,” “Spell” and “Cheers to Youth”—the tour promises to deliver high-energy performances and impressive stage presence that fans have come to expect.

During the same press conference, Mingyu also hinted at the release of another album later this year, teasing even more musical innovation from Seventeen and promising a year filled with exciting content.

Meanwhile, Seventeen has released a new concert film showcasing their recent tour, available for a limited time starting August 21. Global tickets are on sale at www.svtfollowagaintocinemas.com.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the full list of tour dates and locations, which will be announced soon. Will they add Europe on the list of the world tour stops?
