For the first time in five years, Manchester United is headed to the United States for a preseason tour.

The Red Devils have confirmed they will head Stateside in the summer of 2023, returning for the first time since a 2018 tour that included a match against Liverpool at Michigan Stadium that drew over 100,000 fans.

“This will be our first visit to the U.S. for five years and everyone at the club is looking forward to it, especially the players, who love the high-quality facilities, the welcoming atmosphere and passionate support of our large U.S. fanbase,” said John Murtough, Manchester United’s football director.

“Tour 2023 will not only see the return of our senior players to training and playing, but there will also be valuable opportunities for up-and-coming talent from our Academy to experience life within the first-team environment – and for our U.S. fans to see some potential stars of the future.”

So far, the club has confirmed four matches of the tour: against Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund, Wrexham, and a high-profile match against Real Madrid as part of the Soccer Champions Tour.

The Man United US summer tour for 2023 is coming up, as the Red Devils are set to return to North America.

Three United games set for July

Manchester United are playing a three-game slate in late July. First they visit the New York metro area and then head to the west coast:

• Saturday, July 22 vs Arsenal, in East Rutherford, NJ; 5:00PM ET / T ickets available
• Tuesday, July 25 vs Wrexham AFC, in San Diego, CA; 9:30 PM ET / Tickets available
• Sunday, July 30 vs Dortmund, in Las Vegas, NV; 9:00PM ET / Tickets available

Two games are held in NFL venues – MetLife Stadium, home of the New York Giants/Jets, and Allegiant Stadium, home of the Raiders. The first match sees them taking on Premier League rivals Arsenal in New Jersey. United Football Director John Murtough was keen to play up the match.

He noted “Manchester United versus Arsenal is one the most famous and anticipated fixtures in the English football calendar and supporters from both clubs understand how big the rivalry between the two sides is. It’s great to be able to bring this match to New York and play in front of what I am sure will be a sell-out crowd.” Second up is a meeting with the toasts of the lower league world, Wrexham AFC , in San Diego. The venue is Snapdragon Stadium, home to the NWSL’s San Diego Wave. It was opened in 2022, on the site of the longtime former home of the NFL’s Chargers and MLB’s Padres. Finally, they’ll head to the bright lights of Las Vegas to battle with the Bundesliga’s Borussia Dortmund .

United a regular visitor to the US

United frequently cashes in on their worldwide popularity by participating in summer friendlies and competitions in the US. The club finished runners-up in the 2011 edition of the World Football Challenge. They won the 2014 edition of the successor event, the International Champions Cup, which included a record crowd of 109,318 for their match vs Real Madrid at Michigan Stadium.

Overall it’s been a successful season for the Red Devils. United are gunning for a top-4 finish in the Premier League as the season winds down. They’ve got a massive Manchester derby vs Man City at Wembley in the FA Cup Final coming up in June. And in February, United won the EFL Cup, their sixth title in the competition.

T ickets to the Manchester United tour of the US are selling fast. With three games on the schedule for the Red Devils, Erik ten Hag’s side will be one of the top teams playing in the United States this summer. United is playing two games on the country’s west coast before venturing east. In the third, the latest edition of a familiar European clash happens midweek.

These games are scheduled for July 27 to Aug. 3. To start, Manchester United is playing Arsenal at SoFi Stadium in the Los Angeles area. Then, on Wednesday, July 31, United returns to Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego, CA, to face Real Betis. The last game on Manchester United’s summer schedule is in Columbia, SC, at Williams-Brice Stadium. United is playing Liverpool to add another chapter to their historic rivalry.

Tickets to the Manchester United summer tour are a hot commodity, so securing a seat at the three venues is best before they are all gone.

Unlike other clubs, Manchester United’s summer tour of the United States is set in stone. The Red Devils will not add more games to the three listed above. The club has played more than three games in previous years, but this is the extent of its trip across the Atlantic Ocean in 2024.

Tickets to Manchester United US tour among best opportunities for Americans

Manchester United always draws major crowds in the United States. Last summer, United averaged 58,792 fans over its four games in San Diego, Houston, Las Vegas, and East Rutherford. Manchester United’s official sale of tickets for the 2024 contest against Arsenal has sold out already, but if you look in the right spots, you can find availability .

That is true for the other friendlies coming to the United States, too. For example, Arsenal and Liverpool are playing one another on the same day Manchester United faces Betis. Lincoln Financial Field is hosting the two Premier League title contenders, with tickets also available for that contest. Several other clubs in the Premier League are planning trips to the United States, too. For example, Aston Villa scheduled a friendly against defending MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew, and tickets are available . Also, Chelsea and Manchester City are planning a game in the United States.

While clubs coming to the United States is nothing new, the 2024 friendlies are special because they join an already busy soccer schedule in the United States . The Copa America in June and July highlights the beginning of soccer in the United States. Once that tournament finishes, clubs from Europe play their preseason schedules Stateside.

Manchester United have announced they will return to the United States for a pre-season tour starting on July 19.

United will start their tour against Mexican side Club America in the Phoenix University Stadium, Arizona and that will be followed by a game against San Jose Earthquakes at the Levi's Stadium, Santa Clara, on Sunday, July 22.

The two-week tour will be the second consecutive year that Jose Mourinho's side have travelled to the USA and is the fifth time United have prepared for a new season in America since 2010.

Pre-season matches involving United have attracted more than 1.3m supporters in America, including over 109,000 fans who watched their win over Real Madrid at the Big House in Ann Arbor in 2014 - a record for a soccer match in the US.

2024 USA Tour tickets now on sale

We’re heading to the USA again this summer where we’ll face Manchester United and Liverpool as part of our preparations for the 2024/25 season.

First up, we'll play Manchester United at SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles, on July 27. This will be the second time we’ll have faced each other on American soil, with the same fixture last July selling out the 80,000-capacity MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.  

In another high-profile game, we’ll travel to Philadelphia where we’ll play Liverpool at Lincoln Financial Field on July 31. This will be the first time we’ll have played each other in the US.

Manchester United will play Wrexham in a summer friendly as the first details of the club's pre-season tour were confirmed.

United are touring the United States of America for the first time in five years this summer, and details about their pre-season plans are beginning to emerge.

The club confirmed the States as the destination on March 15 and Wrexham are the first confirmed opposition with more to follow. It is the eighth time United have visited the country over the last two decades and here's the latest on what is going on in the summer.

When is it?

United will face Wrexham in San Diego on July 25 but the specific dates of the trip to the US have not yet been announced. The Premier League confirmed in November that the 2023/24 season starts on 12 August, and the tour will take place in July, with United set to return to Manchester in early August to ramp up their preparations for the new season.

Who will they play?

Aside from Wrexham, there are no confirmed opponents at this stage, but several European clubs are set to be Stateside this summer. Arsenal have confirmed they are playing an MLS All-Stars team coached by Wayne Rooney in the summer and will likely play more matches across the pond. Officials at Borussia Dortmund said in December they plan on visiting the US while Inter Milan and Barcelona are other clubs linked with an American trip?

Where will United's matches be?

San Diego is the venue for the match between United and Wrexham. The Daily Star has reported the tour will include a friendly in Las Vegas at the Allegiant Stadium against an unnamed Premier League club while the club are also likely to visit the East Coast. During their last trip in the summer of 2018, United played friendlies in Ann Arbor, Los Angeles, Miami, Phoenix and Santa Clara.

Is it on TV in UK and US?

United's pre-season matches will be live and exclusive on MUTV. Annual passes are available for £29.99 and include an initial seven-day free trial, or £7.99 for an individual month, which will likely cover the whole pre-season programme.

How can I get tickets?

Ticket details for the Wrexham game are now available on pre-sale to fans who have pre-registered and Manchester United Season Ticket Holders, Official Members and Executive Club Members. Tickets go on general sale from 4pm GMT on Wednesday March 29.

What happened last time?

United last visited America in 2018 and played five matches, including three as part of the now-defunct International Champions Cup. Jose Mourinho's side faced Mexican side Club América and Major League Soccer outfit San Jose Earthquakes. Matches against Milan, Liverpool and Real Madrid followed before United ended their pre-season preparations back in Europe against Bayern Munich.

We’ve worked with the manager and his staff to create training camps with the best sporting facilities available, as well as a mix of competitive opponents to play, ensuring that the whole squad will have the best opportunity to gain fitness and playing time during their time in the US.

Manchester United face a star-studded pre-season line-up in the United States.

The Red Devils will play five matches during their US tour, taking on Barcelona, Real Madrid and arch-rivals Man City.

Former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, speaking at the launch of the ICC, said: "Many years ago our pre-season would probably have been done in a less intense way. We'd go to Scandinavia, places like that, a gentle build-up until the match-days started in the league.

"But when we went to the States, it became more serious. The difference is we can't afford to lose to Barcelona, Real Madrid, Manchester City or Milan.

"The expectation is too big, that's why you always get the full product when Manchester United play in these games."
