KTB assures international travelers Kenya is safe to visit

Board Chairperson Francis Gichaba says all tourism destinations and attractions remain unaffected and open to visitors.

kenya tourism board roles

The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has moved to reassure international travelers that Kenya is safe to visit.

Amid protests that greeted the passage of the contentious Finance Bill 2024, KTB Chairman Francis Gichaba affirmed that all is well despite the recent developments in the country.

Gichaba said the board understands the concerns the recent events may have raised regarding travel to Kenya but was quick to point out that, all tourism destinations and attractions remain unaffected and open to visitors.

Besides, he pointed out that the country’s main airports have stringent security protocols in place and are functioning at optimal capacity.

“All airports and airstrips across Kenya remain fully operational, with scheduled flights arriving and departing as normal,” he said

He further attested to the fact that road networks and railways across the country remain open, including the Standard Gauge Railway, which provides travel between Nairobi and Mombasa.

“We assure our visitors of convenient access to any of our tourism circuits countrywide,” he said

He said the board is working in close collaboration with local authorities to monitor any concerns and ensure seamless experiences for visitors.

“Kenya’s renowned warm hospitality and high service standards remain unwavering. Visitors can continue to expect the welcoming experience that Kenya is famous for.” He said

Kenya Tourism Federation Safety & Communication Centre is the pioneer tourist safety management and control centre and we have the pleasure of introducing our organisation to you

The Tourism Industry in Kenya has traditionally had eight active private sector bodies representing the associations of Tour Operators, Hotelkeepers and Caterers, Travel Agents, Air Operators, Mombasa & Coast Tourism, The Pubs Entertainment and Restaurants Association of Kenya, Ecotourism Kenya and Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association. Whereas each association worked very hard on their own, the ability to effectively address the entire industry’s concerns was limited, as the priority needs of one association’s membership are quite different from those of another. This situation led to the birth of the Kenya Tourism Federation (KTF), with the primary objective of uniting the eight associations under one umbrella.

Ruto declines to sign Finance Bill, sends it back to Parliament

The head of state has proposed a raft of amendments to the bill..

The Head of State has also proposed a raft of amendments to the Bill which the MPs will have to consider.

President William Ruto.

President William Ruto has declined to sign the Finance Bill, 2024.

State House sources told the Star that the Bill will be sent back to Parliament before they break for recess today.

Parliament may amend the Bill in light of the president's reservations or pass it a second time without amending it.

In returning the bill, the president will point out key areas that need to be altered.

If the MPs amend the bill fully accommodating the President's reservations, the speaker shall then resubmit it to the president for assent.

If the House considers the president’s reservations, it may pass it a second time, without amendment, or with amendments that do not fully accommodate his reservations.

This must have, however, been supported by two-thirds of the members.

With the MPs set to go on recess beginning today until July 23, it means that should the President return the document to Parliament the speaker may have to recall them.

Some of the tax proposals which had earlier been introduced in the bill include 16 per cent VAT on bread, Excise duty on vegetable oil, VAT on transportation of sugar, 2.5 per cent Motor Vehicle Tax and Eco Levy on locally manufactured products.

They have since been dropped.

The bill passed the committee of the whole house after these amendments were made.

The committee of the whole house format allows for detailed examination of each clause, ensuring thorough consideration before the bill progresses to subsequent stages of legislative review.
