Honda CRV: How to Set Cruise Control

Cruise control is a cool way to put your Honda CRV on autopilot so to speak. In this setting, the vehicle can maintain speeds of 25mph or more without having to press the accelerator. However, it will not set at below 25mph. In addition, the feature disconnects when the brake is applied. Albeit this is a wonderful feature, be aware that cruise control can be dangerous on winding roads, in traffic, and on wet slippery or icy roads. With that being said, here are the uncomplicated steps to follow to set your Cruise Control.

Enable Cruise Control:

• When your vehicle speed has reached 25mph or faster, press the MAIN button located on the RIGHT side of the steering wheel.
• An ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) icon will appear in the dash screen to notify you that the system is ready for you to use.
• Once you have reached the speed you want to set, press the -SET button.
• To INCREASE the speed press the RES+ button.
• To DECREASE the speed press the -SET.

3 Options To Cancel Cruise Control:

• Press the CANCEL button in the MIDDLE of the steering wheel.
• Press the MAIN button.
• Press the BRAKE pedal.

*Pressing the DISTANCE button located to the RIGHT of the cancel button will RE-ENGAGE your previous cruise control settings.

• Main (On/Off) – Press to turn the system ON/OFF; Be sure the system is OFF when not using it, as if RES/+ or -SET is active, you could accidentally hit either, which will cause your vehicle to enter cruise control mode
• SET/− (Set/Coast) – Used to set or decrease your desired speed
• RES/+ – To maintain the desired speed or to accelerate the set speed. To increase the speed press this button. Each press will increase the speed at 1 mph faster.

**NOTE: If you are unable to activate this feature on the first try, REPEAT the steps. If you are still unsuccessful, contact the dealership for assistance or consult your vehicle user’s manual.

Adding cruise control

Has anyone tried to add cruise to the 2014 Mazda 3? I bought the Sport edition for a fantastic deal, but did not come with cruise controls. I had previously owned a 04 Mazda3 which had no cruise All i had to do was purchase the steering wheel buttons and a brake switch sensor and VIOLA! Cruise control added for a mere $80! So i was hoping someone had already tried this with the new 3's before i went and spent the money. The dealer told me, just like with my 04, that it couldn't be done that easy.  

Anyone. Anyone at all..  

cruise control add on I went thru this before buying the next model up with cruise control. Mazda does not sell a kit to add cruise control. The buttons are on the wheel, no stalk. My dealer recommended a stereo shop could add it as they had done for a Mazda 2.  

Where are you from? In the US at least the iSport does have cruise control. The controls are on the steering wheel. The iSV is the only trim that doesn't have it.  

The sport (in the US) does have cruse, so I'm not sure here. For adding it though, I did see another forum post somewhere about adding cruse to a 2nd gen m3 by switching out the steering wheel buttons and installing a brake switch sensor. I'm not sure if the wheel controls in the 14 models without it are the same design though and would allow that easy swap-out. Maybe if you post a picture we could compare it to our trims? Even if it does, getting the parts right now could prove tricky. I'm having a hard time finding stock parts anywhere online. You may have to get the part number somehow (possibly via the service manual) and inquire directly at a dealership.  

I can't speak for Mazdas but I know on some makes you can simply replace the steering wheel/stalk to one with cruise and gain the functionality of having cruise. Buying a multifunction wheel might be worth a shot.  

I ended up trading in for a iTouring model. I doubt anyone has tried the OEM plug and play. I mostly traded up for the Tech Package touch screen gig.(Which i believe comes standard in the 15 models(Jerks)). But i am still a believer in the plug and play. If you have an extra $200, I would try switching the buttons and brake controller switch. If it doesn't work, you can always sell them again. You're looking at $150 from a junkyard. Just my two cents. Hope you find something that works for you!

Hello, so regarding adding aftermarket cruise control, has anyone done this? My wife and I bought the base model last year, and the dealer got cruise added on under the warranty. They sent it to a trusted garage who added the controls. Our problems since then are that randomly while using cruise, the car will switch into limp mode, and need to be turned off and back on. The dealer said it's the computer getting confused by something. And the guy who installed it says he never saw anything like that before.  

Holy crap this is awesome.  

Can this be done to the 2014 GX model? It's the base model and doesn't have any of the digital displays such as the tachometer.  

Does any1 know the part number of the cruise control panel (Cruise + LIM function) and wire?

For those that wish to try this with a 2012 Mazda 3, adding the steering wheel switches and the brake switch won't always complete the loop. Dealer software may be required to enable the cruise function in the chassis control module.
