Description.

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN TOURISM MANAGEMENT  is a four-year degree program related to the fields of hospitality and tourism education. It provides students the opportunity to become directly involved in managing and planning the world’s biggest people industry – tourism.  This concentrates on courses such as history, travel, language, and other cultural aspects. It provides exposure and training of becoming experts in management of the travel, tour, and hospitality industry and will lead students to a journey toward a senior role in the exciting, diverse, and growing industry.

The BS Tourism Management program has two areas of specialization: (1) Major in Travel Operations and Service Management, and (2) Major in Recreation and Leisure Management.

The BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN TOURISM MANAGEMENT Major in Travel Operations and Service Management program covers the study of various components focusing on the management, operations, and service delivery relevant to the travel and tourism industry. It encompasses technical, practical, and professional learning and application of skills with respect to specific areas such as travel agency management, tour arranging and planning, travel industry operations and procedures, tourism marketing and promotion strategies, travel counseling, travel industry law, international and domestic operations, and travel and tourism policy.

Upon successful completion of the program, graduates should be able to:

PO1. perform leadership skills in various areas of tourism through advocacy programs that aim to improve the quality of life of both local and global communities;

PO2. engage in meaningful collaboration, communication, and processing of information through technology to effectively perform assigned tasks in a diverse cultural environment;

PO3. apply analytical and quantitative skills to formulate business decisions producing quality research and business outputs that respond to tourism and hospitality issues and trends compliant with the laws of the society; and

PO4. demonstrate the ability to perform basic supervisory job functions, as well as entrepreneurial competencies, manifesting Christian values, in the tour, travel, leisure and recreation, and hotel and restaurant careers.

In addition, graduates of BS in Tourism Management Major in Travel and Operations Management should be able to create concrete plans for the different stakeholders through service learning, manifesting global innovations in varied forms of communication and collaboration (PO5-TOSM).

Apart from classroom learning and industry immersions, the college also has educational tour for the students. One of the most awaited highlights of being a Tourism Management student is the exciting domestic tours in Cebu, Bohol, Palawan and international tours in South Korea, Japan, China, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Tourism Degree Admission Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

  • One (1) 1×1 ID Picture
  • Form 138 (Report Card) / ALS Certification (Original)
  • Certificate of Good Moral Character (Original and with School Seal)
  • PSA / NSO Birth Certificate (Photocopy)
  • Special Study Permit / Student Visa (for foreign applicants)

FRESHMEN (ONSITE)

STEP 1 Fill out Registration Form at the Office of Admission and Registration (OAR) To facilitate the application process, the student may encode in advance his/her information via https://mytuaportal.org/lwsis/

STEP 2 Submit Registration Form to the Admission Officer for encoding Attach the following:

  • Form 138 (Report Card) / ALS Certification
  • Certificate of Good Moral Character
  • Photocopy of PSA / NSO Birth Certificate

The Admission Officer will generate your Student Number and your Assessment Form

STEP 3 Pay Tuition Fee at the Finance Office to be officially enrolled

  • Please pay the required down payment to be officially enrolled. Paying less than the required amount will not process the enrollment.
  • Scanned copies of admission credentials should be attached as part of the ONLINE. However, original copies must be submitted to the OAR Admission Officer on or before the first day of classes. Failure to comply may nullify the admission.
  • Students who are still waiting for their complete original copies due to on-going classes will be asked to execute a promissory letter stating when they can submit the required documents.

FRESHMEN (ONLINE)

STEP 1 Open https://mytuaportal.org/lwsis/

  • Click New Students
  • Fill out the Admission and Registration form; Click Submit
  • Check email for the login link

Log in as follows:

  • Account type: Applicants
  • Email Address: (enter email address provided)
  • Password: tuapassword (this is the default, kindly change once logged-in)
  • Term: SY 2022-2023
  • Click Generate Student Number

NOTE: Applicants with Student Number may start from here after logging in.

STEP 2 Proceed to Registration Module

  • Click the “ + ” (plus) icon
  • Click “ Save ” to generate registration assessment
  • Review your Student Assessment Form (SAF)

STEP 3 Pay Tuition Fee

  • Proceed to Payments
  • Choose your Payment Mode ; Input Amount to Pay ;Click Pay Now
  • Select your Payment Option ; Click Send Instructions via Email/Mobile
  • Click Validate Payment

After payment, please wait for at least two (2) to three (3) days for the Finance and Accounting Office’s (FAO) clearing and checking. After which, the student may check his/her portal account to check if he/she is Officially Enrolled .

Graduation Requirements

1. Graduation Requirements for College and Graduate School Candidates

  • Application for Graduation to be filed at the Office of Admission and Registration (OAR)
  • Completed academic, documentary, and financial requirements.
  • Documentary requirements: – Form 137A marked “Copy for Trinity University of Asia” (for students who initially enrolled as freshmen) – Transcript of Records (TOR) marked “Copy for Trinity University of Asia” (for students who initially joined as transferees) – Graduation Clearance – Settled graduation fee

2. Additional requirements for Board takers

  • One (1) 2×2 ID picture with white background

3. Additional requirements for Graduate School students

  • Hard bound and finalized Thesis or Dissertation
  • Certified True Copy of the following: – Title Page – Approval Sheet – Abstract

4. Additional requirements for Foreign students

  • Updated Student Visa

Program overview.

The Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management is a four-year degree program for people who want to have a career in the field of Tourism and Event Management. This course leads to expertise in the management of tour-operating agencies, as well as other jobs in the tourism and hospitality sector. The curriculum also includes operational competencies, event management classes, investment, and market study. 

Recommended Senior High School Strand

Students who want to pursue a degree in Tourism Management are encouraged to take the Home Economics strand under the Technical-Vocational and Livelihood (TVL) track. The strand covers interesting topics like beauty and wellness, cooking, fashion designing, tourism, hospitality, and handicrafts. These topics are helpful to incoming college students as it teaches the basics of their degree program.

Admission Requirements

Qualifications

  • The student must be a high school graduate. 

However, if they were not able to graduate high school, they may opt to take the Alternative Learning System (ALS) and pass the Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT) to qualify for college; the availability of courses for PEPT passers depend on the university.

  • The students must pass the College Admissions Test of the university.

Program Outcome

Graduates of BS in Tourism Management  are expected to be able to:

  • Knowledgeable of the tourism industry
  • Awareness of the products and services produced by the local tourism industry
  • Apply laws and regulations related to the tourism industry
  • Utilize technology applications for tourism
  • Perform human capital development functions of a tourism-oriented organization
  • Properly communicate with clients and guest

On-The-Job Training/Internship

During the fourth year of the program, students are required to attend an On the Job Training (OJT) in travel agencies, travel ticketing offices, event organizing companies, and the Department of Tourism.

Students are given the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in an actual work setting. Usually, universities require them to submit a written report on their tasks, learning experiences, and hours rendered. Their work performance will also be evaluated by their immediate managers and will be submitted to their respective OJT coordinator. The number of hours required may differ in each university.

The BS in Tourism Management does not have a board examination. However, graduates may opt to take the Civil Service Examination (CSE) conducted by the Philippine Civil Service Commission (PCSC) to qualify in working in government offices. Some graduates opt to take a Master’s degree followed by a Doctorate degree to gain expertise in the industry.

Course work in this minor prepares you for careers in areas such as beverage sales, distribution, and management in both hotels and fine dining restaurants; procurement/purchasing management; bar, lounge, winery, or brewery owner/manager/entrepreneur; sommelier; cicerone; or beverage brand marketing manager and/or distributor.
  • Sports, Events, and Entertainment Management Minor : Delivery highly-effective experiences in the world of sports, events, and entertainment, and engage in careers as an sports/event venue sales manager; event manager for a hotel, sports venue, convention center, wedding venue, etc.; meeting planner for corporations, associations, or non-for-profit organizations; sports marketing manager; sports arena/facilities manager; private sports club manager; or sports analyst.

Global Hospitality Rotation

The  global hospitality rotation  is an immersive experience where you will gain a global perspective in business and commerce by studying international business on two continents:

  • RIT Croatia: You’ll spend the spring semester of your second year at  RIT Croatia , studying in Dubrovnik. Known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” Dubrovnik is a medieval seaside port on the Adriatic Sea. It is a popular European cruise ship port that boasts many cafes, winding cobblestone streets, and old city neighborhoods. What’s different about an RIT education? It’s the career experience you gain by completing  cooperative education and internships  with top companies in every single industry. You’ll earn more than a degree. Co-ops take your knowledge and turn it into know-how. Business co-ops  provide hands-on experience that enables you to apply your knowledge of business, management, finance, accounting, and related fields in professional settings. Students in the hospitality management degree are required to complete a combined 1,200 hours of practical cooperative education experience with classroom theory. In co-op placements, students work directly in the hospitality industry in a variety of positions and organizations. Co-op is usually completed in the summer following the freshman and sophomore years and during any semester in the junior and senior years, except the final semester of the senior year, when students are required to be in residence on campus. Co-op is planned, monitored, and evaluated by the student, the co-op counselor, the faculty adviser, and the employing firm.

Practicum and Internship Experiences

Tourism and Events Management students are encouraged to seek volunteer or paid experiences in the broad field of tourism, events, and hospitality management during their academic years.

In addition, the Tourism and Events Management curriculum includes two faculty-supervised practical experiences – practicum (TOUR 241) and internship (TOUR 490).

TOUR 241 – Tourism, Events, and Hospitality Management Practicum

The Tourism and Events Management practicum provides practical experience in an approved, student-selected volunteer or paid setting. This 3-credit course includes 120 hours of supervised practical experience and is conducted according to the terms of a three-way partnership agreement among the participating agency, George Mason University, and the student. This course should be taken early in the academic program. Inquiries about the Tourism and Events Management practicum should be directed to the Fieldwork Coordinator at  [email protected] . See a  list  of previous practicum sites as a starting place.

All students must complete the  mandatory pre-experience online orientation session by the deadline here . The sessions are provided through the Tourism and Events Management  Blackboard  Organization.  Save your notice of completion.

This requirement is different from ( and in addition to ) the requirement to attend the informational meetings scheduled by their Faculty Supervisor (the instructor-of-record for their section), which are also  mandatory . For more details click  here .

Note : Failure to complete the  mandatory  orientation session (i.e. the one provided by the Fieldwork Coordinator), and the informational meeting organized by the Faculty Supervisor (if applicable)  will result in you being declared ineligible to complete your practicum during the corresponding semester. TOUR 490 – Tourism, Events, and Hospitality Management Internship

The Tourism, Events, and Hospitality Management internship gives students an opportunity to have a full-time applied experience at an approved agency for a minimum of 400 hours during the fall, spring, or summer semester. The internship satisfies the Mason Core capstone requirement and is, therefore, completed late in the academic program (after at least 90 credits have been earned, and the practicum has been successfully completed). This 12-credit course is conducted according to the terms of a three-way partnership agreement among the participating agency, George Mason University, and the student. Interns are supervised directly by professionals (site supervisors), who communicate regularly with the student's internship faculty supervisor. See a  list  of previous internship sites as a starting place.

The following requirements must be submitted to the Registrar's Office before admission to any academic program:

College Freshmen

  • Original Form 138 / SF9-SHS (Learner's Progress Report Card)
  • Original Form 137 / SF10-SHS (Learner's Permanent Academic Record)
  • PSA-issued Birth Certificate
  • Original Copy of Certificate of Good Moral Character or Recommendation from the Dean/Program or Department Head
  • Medical Certificate of Chest X-ray results

College Transferees

  • Certificate of Transfer (Honorable Dismissal)
  • Official Transcript of Records

Foreign Students with Scholastic Records from a Foreign School

  • Five (5) copies of the Student’s Personal History Statement (PHS) containing, among others, his/her left and right thumb-prints and a 2” x 2” photograph on plain white background taken not more than six months prior to submission
  • Transcript of Records/Scholastic Records duly authenticated by the Philippine Foreign Service Post (PFSP) located in the student-applicant’s country of origin or legal residence
  • Notarized Affidavit of Support including bank statements or notarized grant for institutional scholars
  • Photocopy of the student’s passport showing date and place of birth and birth certificate or its equivalent duly authenticated by the PFSP

Student Visa and Special Study Permit (SSP) from the Bureau of Immigration shall not be required of the spouses and unmarried dependent children below 21 years old of aliens under the following categories:

  • Permanent foreign residents
  • Aliens with valid working permits under Section 9(d), 9(g) and 47(a) (2) of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940, as amended
  • Personnel of foreign diplomatic and consular missions residing in the Philippines and their dependents
  • Personnel of duly accredited international organizations residing in the Philippines and their dependents
  • Holders of Special Investor’s Resident Visa (SIRV) and Special Retiree’s Resident Visa (SRRV)
  • Foreign students coming to the Philippines with 47(a)(2) visas issued pursuant to existing laws, e.g. PD 2021

The mission of the hospitality, tourism and event management program is to develop visionary leaders and successful professionals in the hospitality, tourism and event industry. The program provides a comprehensive and challenging curriculum that includes courses in general education, business, hospitality, tourism and event management, combined with relevant operational and management experience under the supervision and guidance of industry professionals and program faculty.

At the conclusion of the program, students will be able to:

  • Identify and apply the knowledge and skills necessary for hospitality and tourism operations.
  • Develop and integrate a core set of business skills necessary to successfully operate a hospitality and tourism organization.
  • Demonstrate competence in the communication skills necessary for hospitality and tourism management.
  • Formulate business decisions in hospitality and tourism management.
  • Evaluate leadership principles necessary in the diverse and global hospitality and tourism industry.

With a Bachelor of Science in hospitality, tourism and event management from South Dakota State University, the hospitality, tourism and event industry is yours to conquer. We are dedicated to making the hospitality, tourism and event management program at SDSU one of the leading professional management-related programs in the Midwest.

Since Winter of 2016, the hospitality, tourism and event management program has held professional accreditation from the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration (ACPHA) for its educational quality and for upholding nationally recognized standards in the hospitality profession.

The hospitality, tourism and event management program had a 50% retention rate for the 2020-2021 academic year, and 75% of our students were employed in the hospitality industry or a related field upon graduation and 25% of our students were continuing their education. In the academic years of 2019-2020, 2018-2019 and 2017-18, retention rates were 100%, 71.4% and 57.1% respectively. While the hospitality industry continued to have jobs available in the hospitality field for any student searching, students in hospitality, tourism and event management learn numerous transferrable skills and are sought-after for, and excel in, positions in a wide variety of industries. Given that, 94.12% and 88% of our students were employed in the hospitality industry or related field in 2019-2020 and 2018-2019 respectively. In 2017-18, 13.33% of our students were continuing their education and 66.67% were employed in the hospitality industry or a related field.

Program Overview

This specialized business degree prepares you for leadership roles in the dynamic, service-oriented hospitality industry. Traditional business courses in accounting, economics and law are complemented by hospitality marketing, meeting/event management, lodging management, hospitality facilities management, food and beverage management and international tourism. All of these courses help to give you a solid foundation required for any number of hospitality specialties.

We stress experiential learning in our program. If you plan to successfully lead, manage or direct others in the industry you must have industry experience. Our goal is for each of our graduates to be qualified for an intro-level management job (or management training position) upon graduation. As former managers in the hospitality industry we realize that gaining industry experience is an important part of our degree requirement.

All undergraduates must complete two internships, accumulating more than 500 hours of work experience in two distinct areas of hospitality. These two experiences provide a great opportunity to explore different and unique facets of the industry, and to expand your knowledge and discover your ideal career path. Whether on campus or off campus, part time or full time, job or internship, you can choose the work experience that best suits your schedule and interests.

With this degree in hand, you'll have a wealth of career options both in South Dakota and throughout the United States and will be well-prepared for post-graduate studies if you choose to continue your education. Additionally, our faculty brings significant industry experience to the classroom, adding a unique dimension that you just won't find with a general business education.

The BS Tourism Program of UP AIT is a four-year course focused on developing leaders with a broad understanding and knowledge relevant to tourism development and management. The program includes courses on:

  • Functional areas of management (marketing, finance & accounting, human resources, etc.).
  • Industrial sectors of tourism (transportation, accommodation, travel services, and Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE).
  • Tourism development and management (planning, ecotourism, Philippine culture and tourism, special topics, etc.).
  • Tourism research (research methods and thesis writing) and
  • General education (arts and humanities, social sciences, mathematics, and statistics)
  • Internship in any of the industrial sectors of tourism.

To be admitted to the BS Tourism Program, a student must either be a 1st Year Student accepted in the UP College Admission (Test)

Students from other UP campuses or other Colleges/Universities can also apply for transfer to UP AIT. Accepted applicants should meet the required grade and earned units at the time of enrollment.

Shifting and transfer applicants can submit their application directly to the Office of the Institute Secretary, Asian Institute of Tourism (suggestion to have a google form submission page to automate the S2, T1 application)

Applicants from other schools should submit their application to the Office of the University Registrar

  • Freshman admitted through the UP College Admission (UPCA); the student has completed High School level. Graduating from high school, and has never attended any college or university? Apply for the UP College Admissions .
  • 30 units for UP Students (S2 & T1 Category*) *S2 – Shifting within UP Diliman and T1 -Transferring from other UP Units
  • 33 units for non-UP Students (T2 Category**) **T2 – Transferring from other Colleges and Universities

Applicants cannot make up for any inadequacy in the number of units by enrolling during the Midyear period or the semester after the application period.

Tourism courses taken in other schools cannot be credited to substitute the major subjects in the curriculum of UP AIT. Only General Education (GE), Physical Education (PE), and National Service Training Program (NSTP) units can be applied for substitution, upon approval of the AIT Admin and the University Registrar.

2. The General Weighted Average (GWA) requirements for applicants should be at least: 2.00 – for UP Students (S2, T1) 1.75 – for non-UP Students (T2)

3. Applicants must also pass the interview by the AIT Admissions Committee.

The first screening will be the number of units earned and the GWA. All applicants must pass the first screening before proceeding to the second level.

For T2 applicants, the screening will be done by the Office of the University Registrar. Once they have validated your credentials, only then can UP-AIT proceed to the second level of screening.

The second screening will be the interview. Applicants who pass the first screening will be given a schedule for their interview set by the Admissions Committee. In light of the restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, interviews will be conducted online. Please ensure that you have a valid and working e-mail account and access to stable internet connection.

The applicants will be ranked according to: 60% of the applicant’s GWA 40% of the interview grade

How to apply in the BS Tourism Program? To be eligible in the BS Tourism Program, you need to pass the UP College Admission (UPCA)/UP College Admission Test UPCAT). For students who are planning to shift or transfer to the BS Tourism program, you must have completed 30 units of coursework (if you are from other UPD units or other UP campus) or 33 units of coursework (if you are from other college and university) The documentary requirements can be found here . The application process is conducted online. Please ensure that you have read and understood the program details before submitting your application here . Once you have completed the application requirements, you can now proceed to submit your application.

Credits, Schedule and Program Duration

What is the schedule of classes i have a full-time job and am taking the course part-time., what is the full load for a regular graduate student, how many units do i have to take to earn a graduate diploma or master’s degree, how long will it take for me to finish the graduate diploma (gdiptdm) and the master degree (mstdm) if i go on full load.

Full-time GDipTDM students, taking a normal load, may complete the degree in three semesters (approximately 1.5 years). The time limit for the completion of all diploma requirements shall be no more than two (2) years starting from the student’s first enrollment in the course and shall include all leaves of absence from the program.

If GDipTDM graduates choose to continue to MSTDM, you must complete an additional 19 units (Plan A, thesis track) or 16 units (Plan B, non-thesis track), which may be taken in two semesters and one mid-year term. The time limit for the completion of the Master’s requirements shall be three (3) years, starting from the student’s first enrollment in the course and shall include all leaves of absence from the program.

The Tourism Management programme equips the students with the necessary skills, knowledge and attitude needed to transform the challenges of the 21st century into business opportunities and socially responsible enterprises in the field of tours, travel and tourism.

The BTM curriculum, which is a combination of theory and field work, is unique to Strathmore as it provides the students with the necessary competence in tourism product development and destination management, tourism policy and planning, wildlife management, ecotourism and sustainable tourism, among others.

Career options range from tourism policy and planning in tourism agencies, running a tour and travel company, working in NGO’s and international organizations, setting up wildlife conservancy and eco-lodges, or venturing into business start-up of developing tourist destinations that abound in Kenya and in neighboring countries.

All students are required to take the compulsory humanity units that include philosophy, ethics, communication skills and foreign languages, which enable the students to attain a holistic development.

Both hospitality and tourism students do the common units together such as management subjects, accounting, economics, marketing, business management and entrepreneurship, statistics and research methods. All students are required to submit a research project in any area related to hospitality and tourism as a final requirement to attaining the degree.

The tourism students undertake field work and educational trips, either day trips or overnight to tourist destination areas as part of the taught units, accompanied by competent lecturers.

President’s Intelligence Advisory Board

The President’s Intelligence Advisory Board is an independent element within the Executive Office of the President. The President’s Intelligence Advisory Board exists exclusively to assist the President by providing the President with an independent source of advice on the effectiveness with which the Intelligence Community is meeting the Nation’s intelligence needs and the vigor and insight with which the community plans for the future. The President is able to appoint up to 16 members of the Board.

Jane Harman served nine terms in Congress as the U.S. Representative for California’s 36th congressional district and was ranking member of the Intelligence Committee after 9/11. She left the House in 2011 to become the first woman President and CEO of the Wilson Center, transitioning to President Emerita in 2021.

Currently, Harman chairs the Commission on the National Defense Strategy and co-chairs the board of Freedom House. She is also a Trustee of the Aspen Institute, the Trilateral Commission, a Presidential Scholar at USC, is a member of the Board of Visitors of the National Intelligence University, and serves on the advisory boards of the Department of Homeland Security and NASA. Harman’s book, Insanity Defense: Why Our Failure to Confront Hard National Security Problems Makes Us Less Safe, was published by St. Martin’s Press in 2021.

Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico

The Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico was created under the Puerto Rico Oversight, Management and Economic Stability Act of 2016. The Board consists of seven members appointed by the President and one ex officio member designated by the Governor of Puerto Rico. The Board is tasked with working with the people and government of Puerto Rico to create the necessary foundation for economic growth and to restore opportunity to the people of Puerto Rico.

Judge Arthur J. Gonzalez received a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and an LL.M. in taxation from New York University School of Law. He began his legal career as an attorney in the Office of Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service. Following his tenure at the IRS, he was in private practice until his appointment to the U.S. Department of Justice as an Assistant United States Trustee in the Southern District of New York. Thereafter, he was appointed the United States Trustee for Region 2 (New York, Connecticut, and Vermont), serving in that position until his appointment as a Judge in 1995 for a term of 14 years to the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. At the completion of his first term, he was appointed to a second term and later became Chief Judge. During his tenure on the bench, he presided over numerous large complex Chapter 11 cases, including the Enron, WorldCom, and Chrysler cases.

Upon his retirement from the bench in March 2012, he became a Senior Fellow at New York University School of Law. During the period following his retirement, he has also served as an examiner, independent monitor, arbitrator, and mediator. In August 2016, he was appointed to the Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico and currently serves as a member of the Board. Prior to beginning his legal career, Gonzalez was a teacher in the New York City schools for 13 years.

The Board of Regents unanimously named Dr. Betty A. Rosa Commissioner of Education and President of the University of New York in February 2021. Rosa joined the Board of Regents in September 2008 and served as Chancellor from March 2016 until her resignation in August 2020, when she became Interim Commissioner. Over 700 school districts with 2.6 million pupils, 7,000 libraries, 900 museums, and 50 professions with approximately 900,000 licensees are under the Commissioner’s oversight.

Rosa is a nationally recognized education leader who received an Ed. M. and Ed. D. in Administration, Planning and Social Policy from Harvard University. She also holds two other Master of Science in Education degrees, one in Administration and Supervision and the other in Bilingual Education from the City College of New York and Lehman College, respectively, and a B.A. in psychology from the City College of New York. She has more than 30 years of instructional and administrative experience with expertise in inclusive education, cooperative teaching models, student achievement, and policy implementation.

Rosa began her career as a bilingual paraprofessional, teacher, and reading coordinator in the New York City Department of Education before becoming an assistant principal and principal in special education. She created a multilingual and multicultural school for general and special education students using an integrated linguistic model and was principal of I.S. 218, a full-service community school in partnership with the Children’s Aid Society in District 6.

Luis Ubiñas has had a career across business, government, and the non-profit sector. He served as President of the Ford Foundation, a senior partner at McKinsey & Company, and was appointed to both the Export-Import Bank and the International Trade Commission during the Obama-Biden Administration. Over the last several years, he has been an investor, advisor, and board member.

Ubiñas is currently Chair of the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation. The Foundation recently announced a $100 million project to reimagine the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration. Ubiñas serves on several other multilateral, governmental, and nonprofit boards and advisory committees, including the Advisory Board of the United Nations Fund for International Partnerships and the New York Public Library, where he serves as Chair of the Finance Committee and on the Executive Committee. He is President Emeritus of the Pan American Development Fund. In the private sector, Ubiñas is Lead Director at Electronic Arts, and serves on the boards of ATT, the technology and connectivity company, and Tanger, the publicly traded REIT. He also invests in and advises a number of private and pre-IPO companies.

Ubiñas is a graduate of Harvard College, where he was a Truman Scholar, and Harvard Business School, where he was a Baker Scholar. Ubiñas is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Ubiñas and his wife, Deborah Tolman, the feminist scholar, have two sons, Max and Ben.

United States Commission on International Religious Freedom  

The United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) is an independent, bipartisan U.S. federal government commission created by the 1998 International Religious Freedom Act that monitors the universal right to freedom of religion or belief abroad. USCIRF uses international standards to monitor religious freedom violations globally, and makes policy recommendations to the President, the Secretary of State, and Congress. USCIRF Commissioners are appointed by the President and Congressional leaders of both political parties. 

Dr. Mohamed Elsanousi serves as the Executive Director of the Network for Religious and Traditional Peacemakers. He previously served as Interfaith and Government Relations Director at the Islamic Society of North America. Elsanousi was also a member of the Taskforce for the U.S. Department of State on Religion and Foreign Policy, where he contributed recommendations to the Secretary of State to enhance engagement between the U.S. government, civil society, and religious actors. He frequently participated in the State Department’s speakers’ program, visiting U.S. embassies worldwide.

Elsanousi was the Principal Coordinator for developing the standards and protocols for safeguarding the rights of Christian, Jewish, and other religious minorities in Muslim-majority communities. This resulted in the adoption of the Marrakech Declaration, the most recognized Islamic theological document advocating religious freedom.

Elsanousi founded Faiths4Vaccines, a pivotal campaign with prominent faith actors in the U.S. to support the Biden-Harris Administration’s goal of advancing equitable vaccine distribution and combating vaccine hesitancy.

Elsanousi is the founding Executive Committee Member of Shoulder to Shoulder and co-chair of the Multi-Faith Advisory Council to the United Nations. He also serves on the boards of directors and trustees for numerous interfaith organizations, including but not limited to the Center for Interreligious Dialogue at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City and the Forum for Promoting Peace in Muslim Societies.

Elsanousi holds a bachelor’s degree in Law, a Master’s degree in Law, and a Doctorate in Law and Society from Indiana University School of Law. 

Board of Visitors to the Coast Guard Academy

The Board of Visitors to the Coast Guard Academy reviews and makes recommendations on the operation of the Coast Guard Academy and visits the Academy annually to review its operation. Specifically, the Board reviews the state of morale and discipline, recruitment and retention, curriculum, instruction, fiscal affairs, and other matters relating to the Academy that the Board determines appropriate.

Peter Joseph Marshall Bober is the former Mayor of Hollywood, Florida and served a total of 16 years in public service. He was Hollywood’s first Hispanic (Cuban) mayor and the youngest in its history. Bober oversaw a workforce of nearly 1,500 employees and a budget exceeding a half-billion dollars. He developed fiscal policy and prioritized public safety, ethics, education, recycling, parks, and city infrastructure.

Since 2009, Bober has served as an appointee to the Federal Fort Lauderdale Courthouse Committee, which was charged with obtaining support and a site for a new federal courthouse. He also was appointed by the Broward County Board of Commissioners to the Tourism Development Council, where he advocated for the effective expenditure of tourist development tax revenue. While mayor, he served as Chairman of both the Broward County Workforce Development Board and the Hollywood, Florida Community Redevelopment Agency.

Bober is a practicing attorney, with nearly 27 years of legal experience. In addition to litigating federal employment claims, he also serves as a certified civil court mediator. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin (B.A.) where he received a Non-Resident Tuition Exemption scholarship. He is also a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School (J.D.), where he served as Senior Editor of the University of Pennsylvania Law Review. Bober was named an Honorary Texan by the Governor of Texas.

President’s Advisory Committee on the Arts

Established in 1958 by President Eisenhower, the President’s Advisory Committee on the Arts (PACA) has played a valuable role in sustaining the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, the National Cultural Center. Members of the Committee are civic and cultural leaders who are selected by the President of the United States to serve as representatives in their own communities for the Kennedy Center. The Center considers PACA appointees to be “Ambassadors for the Arts.” Acting as a national network for the Center, PACA helps to broaden the Center’s influence and extend its vision across the country. The Committee serves as a national forum, giving its members the opportunity to share with the Kennedy Center their views on the Center’s artistic programming.

Judith Barnett is the President of The Barnett Group, founded in 2003 to assist U.S. global companies in resolving trade barriers and growing their markets in the Middle East and North Africa. During this time, Barnett has served on the State Department’s Advisory Committee on International Economic Policy and Amideast. Before consulting, Barnett served in three federal government agencies, practiced as a corporate lawyer and litigator, a law professor, a public affairs specialist, speechwriter, and a journalist. 

During the Clinton-Gore Administration, Barnett served as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Trade Development where she worked with the Assistant Secretary to manage an office of 400 people. The Office represented all major industry sectors, had 22 industry advisory committees, and established the Advocacy Center which has successfully advocated for billions of dollars of tenders for U.S. companies overseas. Barnett’s second position at Commerce was as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Africa and the Near East. In that role, she was responsible for activities and programs in 68 countries, creating and implementing regional projects and programs, and advocating for the selection of U.S. companies in major tenders. She was the senior Commerce official working with the State Department responsible for trade and commercial activities associated with the Middle East Peace Process.

In law practice from 1986 to 1993, Barnett worked in corporate law and litigation, and served as an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center. Before entering the legal profession, she served in public affairs and speechwriting at the Federal Trade Commission and the U.S. Department of Education. Barnett has written articles for numerous magazines and newspapers and has been a media commentator on CNN, BBC, and various international stations.

Sheldon Pang, to be a Member of the P resident’s Advisory Committee on the Arts

Sheldon Pang is a prominent AAPI business leader in international trade, finance, and emission reduction. Pang currently serves as Vice Chairman of Freepoint Commodities LLC and Chairman of Freepoint Solar. For two decades prior to Freepoint, Pang served as President of the Pacific Group and Vice Chairman of the Royal Bank of Canada Capital Markets, and as a Managing Director at AIG International, where he built successful businesses raising funds for U.S. and Canadian government and agency debt. Pang started his career as a Research Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the late 1980s.

During the Obama-Biden Administration, Pang served on the White House Commission for Presidential Scholars from 2010 to 2016. A lifetime member of OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates, Pang is a recipient of the OCA WHV’s Dynamic Achiever Award. Pang’s other civic engagements include serving on the Foreign Policy Leadership Committee at the Brookings Institute, the board for National Committee on US-China Relations, and the board of USA Water Polo.

Pang received a doctoral degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a master’s degree from Vanderbilt University. A beneficiary of scholarships that made his advanced education possible, Pang has been a dedicated supporter of educational causes, including serving on the board of Carmel Academy, the Asia Advisory Council of Brown University, and establishment of scholarship funds at MIT and Brown University.
