B Bakery Bus Tour: The Best Afternoon Tea Tour in London
All aboard! Hold onto your glass. Itâs the Brigit’s Bakery Afternoon Tea bus tour. Enjoy London’s iconic sites from the comfort of a beautifully restored 1960s vintage double decker bus with a glass of Prosecco in hand and scrumptious scones in the belly. Nom nom!
Whether you live in London like me, are visiting for the first or umpteenth time, joining a B Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus London Tour is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon with friends or family.
The Brigitâs Bakery specialises in Afternoon Tea. But they take things a step further so you can actually pick where you want it. Choose from dining in their luxury bakery in Covent Garden, cruising along the thames on a B Boat Tour or hopping aboard a B Afternoon Tea Bus London Tour – like I did.
But thatâs not all.
Brigitâs Bakery also provide themed Afternoon Tea tours, from Gin to Halloween. With Christmas around the corner, I was invited to join their Christmassy Afternoon Tea.
Hereâs everything you need to know about Brigit’s Bakery Afternoon Tea bus tour.
What to expect on a Brigit’s Bakery Afternoon Tea bus tour?
On the day of the tour, head to the Victoria Coach Station where the tour departs. I recommend you aim to arrive roughly 20-30 minutes before departure as to allow plenty of time to get your name checked off the list and settle into your seat.
When you board the bus, youâll be led to your table which you chose at the time of booking. Seating is available upstairs or downstairs so book early if you know you want to sit up the top. All tables are already arranged and beautifully dressed and on each seat you’ll find your own tote bag of goodies. No spoilers!
Shortly after everyone is seated, the tour leader will give a welcome message while the servers come around to fill up your glass with Prosecco.
Itâs time to depart. Off we go!
For the next hour and a half you’ll drive through the heart of London passing by iconic landmarks and historical buildings with soft background music. As you approach each attraction, the music is briefly interrupted with an audio commentary.
Keep an eye out the window to see Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, St Jamesâs Park, Hyde Park, The Royal Albert Hall, Marble Arch, Nelsonâs Column, and Downing Street just to mention a few.
For Christmas Afternoon Tea I was on, the B Bus Tour followed a unique route along Regentâs Street so we could see the beautiful Christmas Lights.
Throughout the tour, our glasses were constantly topped up without us needing to ask. Roughly half-way through the tour, after most of us had finished eating the savoury food, the servers came around with warm scones with clotted cream and took our tea orders.
By the end of the tour I was feeling a little tipsy, but very content. We were each given a little fold up cardboard box to take any left over cakes and sandwiches home.
Once back at Victoria Coach station, anyone who hadnât ordered tea on board were each gifted a lovely Brigits Bakery themed travel mug to take home. I received mine earlier with my order for a Lemon and Ginger tea. With a few more snaps outside of the bus, the B Afternoon Tea Bus was sadly over.
Who is the B Afternoon Tea Bus London Tour for?
Unfortunately, their tours arenât suitable for accessible patrons and children under 5 are not allowed on board.
Do I recommend joining a B Bus Tour?
Essential tour tips
- Let them know your dietary requirements – Are you vegan, follow a gluten free or Halal diet? No problem. Just let the servers know and they’ll provide you with diet friendly sandwiches.
- Hold onto your glass – I wasnât kidding when I said to hold onto your glass. The ride can be bumpy at times and the London traffic can be unpredictable with sudden stops so hold onto your class of bubbly to avoid and sudden accidents.
- Got to the toilet before you board – There are no toilet facilities on board so make sure you use the restrooms either at Victoria Station (these are free) or at Victoria Coach Station (costs 30p) before departing.
- Thereâs not a lot of wiggle room – Remember, this is a vintage bus so itâs going to be quite cosy inside. Thereâs not a lot of space either, so leave any bulky items and shopping bags at home. There is space under your seat but just enough for a handbag or small rucksack.
- Allow plenty of time to arrive – If youâre not familiar with the Victoria area, be sure to allow an extra 5-7 minutes to walk to the Victoria Coach Station which is completely separate from Victoria Train Station.
- Flexible departure times – The B Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus London Tour has multiple departure times. For example, there are five daily departures for the Christmas Afternoon Tea Tour at 12:00, 12:30, 14:30, 15:00, 17:00 & 17:30. The tours at 17:00 & 17:30 are the ones that will take your along Regentâs Street to see the Christmas lights.
- Limited seating – There might be plenty of departure times but each bus can only dine up to 28 guests. So if you want a spot on the top deck, book early to avoid disappointment .

Many thanks to the Brigitâs Bakery for providing me with a complimentary tour. They did not request a review nor a favourable one, and all opinions here are, as always, my own.

B Bakery Bus Tour: The Best Afternoon Tea Bus Tour In London
Posted on Last updated: June 7, 2021
After six years of living in London I have started to acquire a taste for British food (some of it anyway), one of these being afternoon tea. Afternoon tea is a very traditional English meal composed of sandwiches and cakes.
B Bakery offers this traditional English experience with a special twist, in the form of an afternoon tea bus tour !
If you want to experience London in a different way, what could be better than seeing all the main tourist landmarks while savouring delicious food and tea? (Hint; nothing is).
By giving a unique spin to a British classic, B Bakery is without a doubt one of the most quirky places to eat in London . Read on to find out more about our experience on the B Bakery afternoon tea bus tour in London!

Getting ready for our afternoon tea bus tour in London
What is afternoon tea?
For those that aren’t acquainted with the glorious British tradition of afternoon tea , I figured I should give you a bit of an introduction about it.
Afternoon tea is a meal first introduced in the 1840s, first as a mini meal between lunch and dinner so that one wouldn’t arrive at dinner too famished. It used to be a social event for high society ladies.
Today it is still considered somewhat a fancy meal and will mostly be consumed on special occasions (unless you have a very traditional English grandma that will make you sandwiches, cakes and tea for when you get home from school).
As the name implies it is usually consumed in the afternoon, however you can have afternoon tea as early as 12pm. It is usually composed of three parts; savoury sandwiches, sweet pastries and scones.
There are lots of great and quirky afternoon teas in London , but the B Bakery one is amongst my favourites.

The route of our afternoon tea bus tour in London
Our afternoon tea bus tour started at Victoria Coach Station and covered all the main landmarks in London.
There is an automated guide voice that gives a short history of all the main attractions, but the staff will also chime in and talk about smaller landmarks that aren’t mentioned in the tape, which makes it a much more personal and interesting experience.
Setting off from Victoria Station we first drove around Kensington, seeing main landmarks such as Hyde Park Corner, Harrods, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the National History Museum and the Royal Albert Hall.
Don’t miss out, click here to book your spot on a B Bakery afternoon tea bus tour!

Driving past Hyde Park during our afternoon tea bus tour
From there we drove on along the side of Hyde Park until we reached Notting Hill, where we then turned right and continued our tour around Hyde Park.
At the North Eastern corner of Hyde Park we drove past Marble Arch, and then back south to Hyde Park Corner.
Once we there we turned left and drove through central London, seeing Piccadilly Circus, the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace and we then ended our tour back at Victoria Coach Station.
The tour lasts approximately 1 hour, but this really depends on the traffic (and the traffic in London can be pretty awful, but hey that means you get to enjoy a longer afternoon tea bus tour)!

B Bakery offers a number of different types of menus and can also cater for most dietary requirements, whether you want to eat Vegetarian, Vegan, Halal or Gluten-Free, just make sure to say so when you book and the chefs of B Bakery will make sure your dietary needs are met.
As per tradition afternoon tea is served in a tiered plate stand , with savoury sandwiches on the bottom plate and cakes in the top one.

Savoury treats
The bottom plate was filled with different types of delicious freshly prepared savoury sandwiches.
Some were afternoon tea classics such as the Cucumber & Mint Finger Sandwich, the Watercress & Egg Pretzel and the Ham & Cheese Sandwich With Mayo & Mustard .
The others were more original and I hadn’t seen them served before at afternoon teas, and included things like a Chestnut mushroom quiche, small BLT Burgers and Smoked Salmon Blinis (these were like small pancakes with cream cheese, cucumber and smoked salmon).
These last three were my personal favourites as they were a bit different from what I was normally used to, and especially tasty.

Sweet treats
The top tray of our stacked dish was covered in an assortment of mini homemade cakes and tarts. My personal favourite were the Chocolate Mini Cupcake and the Lemon Meringue Tart.
When we were about three quarters of the tour in and had gotten through most of our food we were served warm scones with jam and cream to end the afternoon tea.
These are typical unsalted English cakes, to which you then add jam and cream to add flavour. They are traditionally always served with afternoon tea.

As you may imagine, the traditional drink to have at afternoon tea, is in fact tea.
B Bakery offers a number of different teas from Betjaman & Barton, including traditional flavours like English Breakfast and Earl Grey , but also more alternative flavours such as Darjeeling and Rooibos Jardin Rouge .
If like me you’re not much of a tea drinker, don’t worry as they have other coffee and hot chocolate options.

I really enjoyed our B Bakery afternoon tea bus tour as it gave a creative spin to a traditional experience. Despite living in London for six years, I still really enjoy doing touristy things like this or even Harry Potter tours .
This was such a fun day, touring around and seeing all the main landmarks and tourist attractions of London. The delicious tea, sandwiches and cakes was an added bonus!

This is a must! My daughter and I did this in March. Food was delicious! We consider this a highlight of our quick get away to London.

It's a great activity to do with your family for sure! And the perfect way to combine sightseeing around London with a cool English meal like afternoon tea :)

That sounds so amazing, and the food looks so tasty. Now I only need to get to London. :) Thanks so much for sharing this.
No problem, glad you enjoyed the post! Haha definitely worth a visit when you make it to London :)

We took this tour last fall 2017. It was so much fun. As we gathered to board the bus, my husband started noticing there were only a few men in the group. He wasn't so happy with me, but the food and many sights we passed turned him around. No doubt we would recommend this tour, especially to someone who has never been to London. Gives you a good over view of where sights are in town.
I agree, it's a fun way to see all the main landmarks in London! And since there's nice food and tea onboard you don't mind getting stuck in traffic either haha!

This looks so much fun! As a Brit I also love that you have pointed out that afternoon tea is NOT something that the English do every day, which seems to be the stereotype. It's a special occasion for us too - so this looks like a great activity for anyone to do in London!
All aboard the fantastic B Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus Tour
There are few things more synonymous with London than a cherry red double-decker bus . The popular Routemaster buses are an essential part to London life, loved by locals and tourists alike.
Every day, thousands of double-deckers ply the city streets, covering hundreds of routes and carrying out some five million journeys daily but only a handful of them offer that other quintessentially British experience, afternoon tea.
We jumped on board a revamped traditional red Routemaster bus to sample the B Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus Tour and discovered that sightseeing and scones are a match made in heaven.

The British obsession with Afternoon Tea
Table of Contents
â The very British tradition of afternoon tea dates back to 1840 when, feeling peckish one afternoon, the Duchess of Bedford asked that a tray of tea, bread and butter be brought to her room.
This mid-afternoon snack quickly became a daily habit and a social one too; the Duchess regularly invited friends to join her and soon high society ladies would change into their best gowns, gloves and hats to enjoy afternoon tea.
âThese days, afternoon tea usually involves a quick cuppa and possibly a biscuit but if you want to treat yourself then there are lots of places where you can enjoy afternoon tea in London .
All about Brigit’s Bakery
The B Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus Tour is the brainchild of Brigit’s Bakery , a French Salon de ThĂ© that first opened in 2010. Founded by a French family, the Blochs, looking to bring French patisseries to London , the cafe quickly became a hit.
Two years later, the family opened a second outpost, this time in Covent Garden and, two years later, they bought their first classic Routemaster bus and the idea of the B Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus Tour was born.
Today the company have a handful of original refurbished Routemaster buses and offer a number of themed tea bus tours including Peppa Pig and Paddington Bear tours that are ideal for families with young children.
They also run tours tied to holidays such as their Grinchmas and Christmas Lights tours (the best way to enjoy London at Christmas ) and a Valentine’s Afternoon Tea.
However, my fourteen-year-old daughter and I decided to be purists and opted for the Classic Afternoon Tea Bus Tour (if you’re looking for something fun to do with teens in London then this is a great idea!) and met our driver and crew on a rainy January afternoon near Trafalgar Square.
On board the B Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus Tour
B’s Bakery runs afternoon tea tours throughout the year with multiple tours per day , simply head to the website , choose your dates and time and make a booking. Departure points vary; we left from Northumberland Avenue near Trafalgar Square but some tours depart from Victoria Coach Station at Victoria Station.
The original Routemasters have been refurbished and now come with tables that can seat four . If you can, opt for a table on the top deck that offer the best views; the two tables at the front of the bus on the upper deck can seat two people only.
The afternoon tea bus tour route
If you’re looking to see London’s main sights in one quick tour then this is the perfect way to do it. The 90-minute tour takes in almost all of the most famous landmarks in central London and you get to eat while ticking them off your list!
âSetting off from Northumberland Avenue, we passed Trafalgar Square and Nelson’s Column before carrying on past Downing Street and towards the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben .
There’s supposed to be an automated commentary running throughout the tour regaling passengers with fun facts and interesting historical tidbits however, ours only started working half-way through the tour which, I was told, was not usual.
Instead we had a cheery medley of Christmas tunes to keep us entertained! If the commentary is not working when you step on board, make sure to tell one of the members of staff and they will sort it out for you.
Next on our tour was Westminster Abbey before the bus headed to Knightsbridge where we sailed past the bright lights of Harrods .
There were a few comical moments when, stopped at a red traffic light, a regular double decker bus pulled up alongside ours and we could see neighbouring passengers ogling our sandwiches and cakes.
From Knightsbridge the route wound its way towards the Royal Albert Hall , around Hyde Park and past Marble Arch , which was designed by the favoured architect of King George IV, John Nash.
Buckingham Palace was our next stop on our afternoon tea tour before we circled back around Trafalgar Square and to our original departure point.
The tour last around 1hr. 30 minutes but the timing depends on the London traffic so it may take longer.
The B Bakery afternoon tea menu
Sights are all well and good but scones are better according to my daughter so we were delighted to discover that these formed part of the afternoon tea menu on board the B Bakery afternoon tea bus London tour.
B Bakery can cater for a wide range of dietary requirements and offer a range of menus including Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten Free, Pescatarian, and Halal.
We opted for the traditional afternoon tea menu which comes with a selection of finger sandwiches and sweet treats served on a traditional tiered plate stand.
Our savoury sandwiches selection featured ham and cheese, smoked salmon and cream cheese (my personal favourite), and cucumber and cream cheese. Our savoury options also included a mini savoury muffin and mini quiches .
On the top tier was a selection of homemade cakes including a lemon meringue and a chocolate mini cupcake. Half-way through, one of the team came round with warm scones and small pots of jam and clotted cream .
It is a very generous afternoon tea spread but don’t worry if you can’t finish it all, the B Bakery team hand out containers at the end in case you want to take any leftovers home with you.
Drinks on board the B Bakery tea bus tour
âGiven that you’re on board a moving bus all drinks are served in a B Bakery themed travel cup to avoid any unnecessary spillages. These cups are yours to take away at the end of the tour.
Tradition dictates that hot tea should be served during afternoon tea and the B Bakery Menu offers a range to choose from including English Breakfast , Earl Grey, Chai Tea, Green Tea and Jasmine Tea. There is a decaf tea option too.
If tea is not your thing then other hot drink options are hot chocolate , a selection of herbal teas and coffee . For any special occasions (or simply because) then a glass of Prosecco is also an option.
Our final thoughts on the B Bakery Tea Bus Tour
Overall we really enjoyed our B Bakery Bus Tour experience. It’s a great way to explore the heart of the city while enjoying afternoon tea at the same time.
For younger children, I would recommend trying the Paddington Bear or Peppa Pig themed bus tours but if you’re visiting London with teens then the Classic Afternoon Tea Bus tour is a lot of fun and even the most irascible of teens are guaranteed a great time.

Review of B Bakery London Afternoon Tea Bus Tour
Even after exploring London on a few visits one thing I hadnât checked off my England bucket list was enjoying afternoon tea. When Rick and I went in June 2018, that was the one thing I wanted to make sure we slotted some time for. This was Rickâs first visit to London so I wanted to make sure he saw all the sights and so when I found a sightseeing tour of London that was combined with a delicious afternoon tea, it was the perfect activity to add to our itinerary.
B Bakery has a physical location, but I was drawn by their variety of themed tea tours, both on a bus or on a Thames cruise! We opted for an afternoon tea tour on their outfitted double decker bus and had a great time. Below is our review of the afternoon tea bus tour with B Bakery.
London Tour
The afternoon tea bus tour is about an hour and half – can be longer if traffic is a bit congested. The seats are comfy and when youâre stuck at a traffic light youâre easily distracted by all the goodies and hot tea in front of you. They have commentary on the bus to describe what youâre seeing but the commentary could be hard to hear at times but was still useful when you picked it up.
Some of the icons you see on this London sightseeing tour:
- Buckingham Palace
- Royal Albert Hall
- Trafalgar Square
Customer service & booking
The online booking process was easy and you pick out your menu, seats, and purchase any add-ons at the time of your booking.
The tour started right on time and the staff was nice. The food was already waiting at your table and then they come around ask what type of tea you want to drink during your tour. Our server asked if we wanted our prosecco first or at the end of the tour and we had it at the beginning. She asked if we were celebrating anything and it was a few days before my birthday, which I told her, and then she served me an extra chocolate cupcake later on the tour, which was a fun surprise!
Food & drink
We booked the traditional tea menu which had a variety of savory sandwiches and sweet treats. Some of the finger sandwiches included a cucumber and mint sandwich, watercress and egg on a pretzel bun, and a ham and cheese with mayo and mustard. There was also a mini quiche and smoked salmon blini. The sandwiches were tasty and flavorful and the serving size was just right for the tourâs duration.
We knew the desserts were going to be amazing (it is hosted by a bakery after all), but the mouthwatering cakes and tarts included a mini chocolate cupcake, a passionfruit, mango, and coconut tart, and a vanilla cream pastry. They also come through during the ride to serve a hot scone with clotted cream and jam. They met our expectations for the desserts as they were delicious and we could have easily eaten another six chocolate cupcakes or those mango tarts.
For teas, they offer a variety of leaves from Betjaman & Barton: Earl Grey, English Breakfast, darjeeling, green, jasmine, rooibos jardin rouge, and peppermint. If tea isnât your cup of tea, they also serve water, coffees, and hot chocolate. They serve your tea in a to-go souvenir mug, so no worrying about spilling your hot drink on the bus.
We booked their traditional menu but I also appreciated the variety of menus they offer, including nut-free, dairy and gluten-free, vegan, vegan and gluten-free, and a Celiacs-friendly menu.
The starting price for this bus tour of London is ÂŁ45, though we did spend a bit more as we added a glass of prosecco each and bought dedicated seating at the front of the bus on the top deck – totally worth it, but only works for couples. I thought the price for the tour and all the yummy goodies was appropriate.
Overall, the experience of having tea on the go was really fun and let us kill two birds with one stone when we had limited time in the city. Iâd recommend it if youâre looking for afternoon tea in London with a twist!

Afternoon Tea and a Tour of London with B Bakery
Europe , Family Travel , United Kingdom | 17 |
Whatâs more quintessentially London than afternoon tea and a double-decker bus? How about afternoon tea ON a double-decker bus! That is exactly what Miss P, Miss V, and I did when we went to London and took the B Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus Tour. The Lovely Ladies and I had been to London before (you can read about those experiences here , here , and here ), so we were looking for something a little different, and indulging in a proper British afternoon tea, while sightseeing around the city definitely fit the bill.

The B Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus Tour is a light-hearted, whimsical way to enjoy Londonâs main sights. Guests board a vintage 1960âs Routemaster bus, and are directed to their tables, which are already set and look stunning!
An array of savory and sweet treats await guests on the B Bakery Afternoon Tea Tour. Photo credit: Monique White
We took our seats on the top deck (because you HAVE to sit on the top deck of a double-decker bus) and nibbled on a selection of amazing finger sandwiches and pastries, and sipped tea from souvenir cups with lids to prevent spilling as we passed iconic London landmarks such as Big Ben, Westminster Abbey , the Victoria and Albert Museum and Buckingham Palace.

As delightful as the B Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus Tour is I should caution you that it is by no means a traditional tour. It is not a hop on â hop off bus that allows you to get off and have a more in-depth look at the sights. The bus whizzes by various landmarks, and what you actually see can depend on where youâre sitting or if the bus is stopped at a red light.

Additionally, there is music playing, people chatting away, and the jostling that comes with eating and drinking in a moving vehicle, so the commentary is muddled. My advice to any first-time visitors or people who want a more substantial sightseeing experience is to supplement the tea bus tour with another tour.
Afternoon Tea
Where the sightseeing aspect of the tour may be lacking, the afternoon tea part absolutely makes up for it. B Bakery is an actual brick-and-mortar, family-owned bakery in Covent Garden, so the treats, which include a variety of sandwiches and an assortment of desserts, were delicious! And just when we thought it couldnât get any better, they brought out warm scones with jam and clotted cream!
Warm, delicious scones with jam and clotted cream! Photo credit: Monique White
The tea flows freely and as frequently as youâd like, however, there are no additional servings of the food, but the finger sandwiches and pastries were quite filling, and I was happy for the to-go boxes that were provided for the leftovers.
Enjoy unlimited refills of tea in a souvenir cup.
Cups with lids prevent spills during the afternoon tea tour.
B Bakery has several tours to choose from, including an afternoon tea cruise on the Thames, an afternoon picnic tea, a Gin lovers tea, and they offer gluten-free, vegetarian and Halal options for a slight additional cost.
Prices for the B Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus Tour start at £45 ( ⏠51, $60), and I recommend booking in advance to guarantee a table on the top deck of the bus.

Review of B-Bakery Afternoon Tea Bus Tour in London
Having afternoon tea in London is always something Iâve wanted to check off my list! After loads of research, I was so excited to try the afternoon tea bus tour offered by Brigitâs Bakery. Not only did we get to have afternoon tea but also ride on a vintage double-decker bus all around London. Such a fun and exciting way to spend our first afternoon in the city!
Booking Process & Cost
Booking online is super easy.
The process was easy and straightforward. Bookings are quickly completed online through the companyâs website. During the booking process, you can select which table youâll be sitting, which menu you require, or if youâd like any of their available add-ons such as champagne or a souvenir.
The traditional afternoon tea bus tour starts at ÂŁ45 per person plus any additional items you decide to add on. We added on a half bottle of champagne for ÂŁ28 extra.
Time to get on the Bus!
What a gorgeous vintage double-decker bus.
We chose Victoria Coach Station as our departure point. When you first arrive, check the screens by the main doors to see which gate the bus will depart. The bakery asks that you arrive twenty minutes before your scheduled departure time.
After a long day of travelling, we were excited to get going on the bus. But we ran into a bit of a speed bump when we didnât board the bus for almost thirty minutes later than our scheduled departure time. We sat waiting for nearly forty-five minutes at the bus station waiting. And if youâve ever been to Victoria Coach Station, Iâm sure youâll agree itâs not exactly somewhere youâd like to hang out. I was a bit annoyed.
Once we got on the bus, my mood quickly lifted. I was so pleased with everything I saw. The decor is so cute. I loved the retro look! The tables were set, and the food looked delicious! The tea tray was filled with tasty looking sandwiches, muffins, desserts and pastries all ready for us to dig in.
The Afternoon Tea Bus Tour Starts!
Here we go.
During the afternoon tea bus tour, youâll cruise by some of the most famous tourist sites in London, such as the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, St.James Park, Harrods, and Westminster Abbey to name a few.
But if getting a tour of London is your main reason for booking this bus tour you may be disappointed. With the general ambient noise from the other guests chatting and eating plus the sounds of the bus and surrounding traffic, it was pretty hard to hear the tour all the time. If you are looking for an informative tour of London, I would not recommend the tea bus for this reason.
Once youâre whizzing through the crazy London traffic. Bouncing and bumping around on the bus, with the din of the other passengers. Plus, all the yummy food in front of you, the tour becomes the last thing on your mind
And you still do get to see some of the sights. For first-timers to London, the general splendour and craziness of the city are fascinating!
Food & Drinks
Once the bus tour has started on its way, the staff stops by each table and takes your drink order. You can choose from a long list of teas, or if youâre not a tea drinker, they have coffee, cappuccino, lattes, hot chocolate and water. One of my favourite things was the spill-proof cup that they gave us our hot drink in (which we got to take home!).
Alcoholic drinks are available but must be pre-purchased when you complete your booking. They are unable to sell any alcohol during the bus tour, so if this is something youâd like, make sure to add it to your cart during your initial booking. We purchased a half bottle of champagne to drink during the trip. It was the perfect amount for us for the time available after we had our cup of tea.
There were two staff members on board with us plus the bus driver. They were super friendly and accommodating. They were happy to provide us with tips and advice for travelling in London as well as just a friendly chat.
There are so many different afternoon teas available in London, so once we narrowed it down, it was pretty easy to choose this company on its uniqueness alone. The idea of having a tour of London while having tea sounded like a lot of fun! And it was!
- The food was delicious, especially the desserts!
- The staff was friendly and helpful.
- The rush of the city passing by created a fun backdrop to our first British afternoon tea experience.
Our bus tour left Victoria Station and toured around the city for about an hour and a half, and we enjoyed every minute of it! I would do it again for sure and recommend it to anyone travelling to London!

Afternoon Tea on a London Bus You Need to Know About: B Bakery Bus Tour
Posted on Last updated: April 2, 2020
From all the different types and themed Afternoon Teas in London, I personally think that Afternoon Tea on a London bus is one of the coolest! If you’re in London in England , you’ve probably seen them driving around: the big, red double decker vintage routemaster buses from Brigit’s Bakery.
They really are the best type of advertisement in the city, because what is a better way then to get the attention of people then to drive a bright red box on wheels, full of people munching on delicious cakes and teas, right in front of their noses? I know, right?!
In the B-Bakery Bus, you can enjoy the first ever London Afternoon Tea bus experience in a fully refurbished 1960s London routemaster bus. This tour combines the tradition of English afternoon tea with the history of London, as you drive along the main sights of the city while enjoying a little feast of finger sandwiches, mini cupcakes, scones and lovely cakes.
We invite you to join us on a quick review of the tour we did ( that you can book here ), which was kindly sponsored by B-Bakery in exchange for a honest review. Let’s go:
AFTERNOON TEA ON A LONDON BUS
ARRIVING AT VICTORIA STATION
When we get to Victoria Coach Station (about 10 minutes walk from Victoria Train/Underground Station), it’s very easy to figure out where to take the bus. On the digital screens, it already popped right up as destination ‘Afternoon Tea’ with a special pink marker next to it!
If you’re someone that finds it hard to be somewhere on time (a.k.a. NOT DUTCH ), then I suggest you aim to get to the coach station at least 20+ minutes before the tour departs. If you’re late, the bus will leave and you’ll miss out. Okay Mom ! Just warning you :)
Gate 0 is straight to the left and then towards the end of the terminal. There is a desk and seats to wait until you are called. When it’s time for that, you simply show your booking (can be on your phone) and they cross you off the list, let you know which bus you are on (when we were there, there was a bus ‘1’ and a bus ‘2’, so multiple buses run at the same time!), take you to the bus (which is right outside), and show you your seats.
Then the fun can begin!
Best Transport Ticket for London
If you’re travelling to London from outside of the UK, then my best tip is to get a London Oyster Visitor Card ahead of your travels. This card, you can top up with any amount and use it to travel on all London public transport.
You save time on arrival, as your card is ready to use when you land and you can also enjoy exclusive offers and discounts at various restaurants and attractions with your card.
>>> Get your London Oyster Visitor Card Here
The Visit Britain Shop is the official shop of the British Tourist Authority, so I can highly recommend purchasing the pass through them.
Getting excited for this vintage bus afternoon tea tour London!
ALL ABOARD!
All cakes and other pastries are freshly baked in the morning and when you step on board, your table is already set for you, so you can pretty much dig in right away … although you might want to listen to the introduction and instructions from your hosts first, show your table manners!
There are two 4-seater tables and two 2-seater tables on the lower deck of the bus (behind the driver) and upstairs (where we sat), you can find another four 4-seater tables and two 2-seater tables (VIP, in the front of the bus). Of course on both decks, there is space for the staff to serve out your drinks as well.
We loved how all the tables were already set up and the bus was decorated with fairy lights all around the windows, it made for a super cozy setting!
This Afternoon Tea Bus London definitely draws some attraction when driving around the city!
You might not expect much from an afternoon tea on a London bus, but you’d be surprised! The traditional Afternoon Tea London menu is seasonal and may vary throughout the year, but in general, this is what you can expect (there are also gluten free, vegetarian, vegan and halal options):
Freshly Prepared Savouries
- Spinach, feta and sun-dried tomato savoury muffin
- Smoked salmon pretzel with cream cheese, chives and cucumber
- Minty cucumber and cream cheese sandwich on beetroot bread
- Pastrami burger with tomato, salad and a mustard mayonnaise
- Ham & cheese sandwich with wholegrain mustard mayo on granary bread

What an afternoon tea on London bus looks like
Assortment of mini Homemade Cakes & Tarts
- Lemon meringue tart
- Vanilla and raspberry jam choux
- Queen sablé and cream cheese mousse
- Chocolate mini cupcake
British Scones
Plain, freshly baked scone with clotted cream and jam, which they will bring you a bit into the tour in a cute basket!
Included Non-Alcoholic Drinks
This afternoon tea bus in London is accompanied by a selection of teas from Betjeman & Barton, who are French tea experts since 1919. You can choose between English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Green Tea, Jasmine Tea, Rooibos, Jardin Rouge and Peppermint.
Not such a tea fan (but HOW?), no worries! You can also choose coffee (Americano, Cappuccino or Latte Macchiato), hot chocolate or just plain water if you’d like.
And again, they’ve thought about this: you will get your drinks in a B-Bakery branded plastic cup with a lid, so you don’t spill anything when the bus makes a sudden move. At the end, we got to keep our cups, but I’m not sure if that’s the case on every trip. Ours were with Christmas decorations, so they might wanted to get rid of them as they’re bringing in other seasonal cups? Not sure here!
Additional Alcoholic Drinks
Additional drinks to pre-order are Prosecco (glass / bottle), Sparkling Wines (half bottle / bottle) or Champagnes (bottle). They come in cute B-Bakery branded plastic glasses, that you need to hold on tightly! We had our prosecco at the end after our hot drinks, which was a good idea, so we didn’t have to rush drinking them.
COMFORT & ATMOSPHERE
It took a little while for us to get used to the moving and shaking of the bus while eating, but luckily all plates have a piece of anti-slip foam under them, there are cup holders, the cake stand is wide and has only two tiers and everything else is pretty much secured onto the table.
While I can get nauseous in a car sometimes, I am comfortable with sitting in a bus ‘the wrong way’ and was totally fine during the whole trip, but if you have severe motion sickness, you might want to consider this and pace yourself with the eating to take more time to look outside and/or take something before you board the bus.
What I liked was that all the plates and cutlery were ‘real’ (so no plastic, which I support so much!), which gave everything the feeling you were in an actual restaurant rather than on a picnic and made things a bit more eco-friendly (I know we’re on a BUS – but still). Even the jam from the scones is served in a glass jar (I hope they recycle), just the clotted cream was in a plastic tub, which I hope in the future they can also upgrade to something that can be recycled or even better: cleaned and re-used.
I would love for the B-Bakery to look into some more eco-friendly upgrades in their business for the future (they already do great with their reduce of plastic and serving vegetarian and even vegan food!), because I can’t imagine that at the moment, driving so many buses around London can be something our planet applauds…
There is no walking around allowed during the tour (and also no toilet), but with the tour being around 1.5 hours, you don’t really have time for that anyway as you will be focused on enjoying the view, chatting with your company and -most important of all- stuffing your face with all the treats in front of you.
All tables have room for four people, but if you book with just two people, you get the whole booth for yourself. We found this very comfortable, and although we saw many people sit with four at a table without problems, with our winter coats and bags with us, we were happy that we could spread out a bit!
DURING THE TOUR
During the tour, you can listen to (British) music playing and there is also commentary with some background information at some of the sights along the way.
We really had to remind ourselves actually to look outside (the rain and accompanying fogged-up windows didn’t help us with that) and look out for the highlights along the way, such as the London Eye, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, Marble Arch, Harrods and much, much more!
Route of the B Bakery vintage bus tour London
TIME TO SAY GOODBYE
Time flies when you’re having fun, and as the lovely people from the B Bakery bus tour set our table for four people just for the two of us (so we can show you what a fully set table looks like), we weren’t even able to finish everything and got a cute pink cardboard carrier to take the rest of the sandwiches and cakes home. Ps. this is not a complaint ;)
It was almost sad to leave ‘our’ bus, as we could have easily stayed for another round, just chilling out, but unfortunately (for us), the next round of hungry people were waiting eagerly at Victoria Coach station for their turn, so we had to say goodbye to our hosts, driver and of course our beloved bus!
Make sure to take home any leftovers from your bus afternoon tea London!
THE VERDICT
We had such a good time on our London tea bus tour! On such a rainy day, this tour was perfect as we sat warm and dry and (after wiping the window) could just sit back, relax and take in all the sights of London while enjoying some great food. The whole tour ran so smoothly, and you could really that they’ve spend a lot of time thinking about the execution and perfected the organisation of the activity.
The hosts we had on the bus were friendly, funny and made us feel comfortable and looked after the whole trip. If you’re in London for the first time and don’t have a lot of time, or if you’re already familiar with the city and would like to try a unique activity, then this is the tour for you! You combine a delicious afternoon tea with a sightseeing tour of the city and get to spend some quality time with the people you’re with.
Sounds like a perfect afternoon to me!
Besides the ‘Standard’ afternoon tea bus tour London that we did (although there really isn’t anything standard about it, it’s really quite unique!), you can also go for a ‘Gin Lovers’ Gin bus tour London, and there are also themed teas during Valentine’s Day, Chinese New Year, Mother’s Day, St. Patricks, Easter, Halloween and of course Christmas afternoon tea bus tours London. They are rolling out a Night high tea bus London Tour as well soon. I believe that we have to come back soon…

If you have been on the afternoon tea London bus already, but want more (or want to get a taster of their goods beforehand), then you can find Birgit’s Bakery in the middle of Covent Garden in London. They have private rooms and seating downstairs and their French pastry chefs use the quality products from the UK and France.
Of course, you can also go for a full afternoon tea on this location. Prices are from £32 per person (week days) and £35 (weekends), or from £36/£39 with a drink!
And did you know that there is also a Afternoon Tea Boat Tour? On their refurbished 1980’s Classic London yacht, you will sail for two and a half hours along the river Thames, taste all the baked goodness at your table inside and you can enjoy a drink on the decks. This tour starts and ends at Butler’s Wharf near Tower Bridge.
Finally, as if this wasn’t enough, B-Bakery can also deliver your Afternoon Tea right to your doorstep (or office if you work in London), or you can order a lovely picnic bag (to be picked up at their bakery in Covent Garden) so you can enjoy your tea in the park!
Not in London? Then you can also find the bakery in the city of Bath in England.

Starter Bread has become a highlight of our Sundays! Stopping by the location in St. Johns is always a treat. At this point my partner and I have tried so many of their options and have yet to be disappointed! A heads up that there will be a line that starts shortly before opening (esp if weather is nice), but don't worry! It moves pretty quickly and you'll be at the front in no time! We typically grab a baguette to make into some kind of quick sandwich for our lunch that same day at home, plus one or two little bakery treats. The SLABS slap, highly recommend the mushroom or onion varieties they rotate. We've also tried some of their traditional bread loaves and are blown away every single time by the freshness and quality. The folks running this spot are also just the nicest! Don't miss this place!
We arrived shortly after they opened and there was a long line. It moved quickly while we talked about true crime. The choices are limited. I got the foccacia with onions, GruyĂšre, and prosciutto, a baguette, and a polenta boule. Everything is sourdough (hence the name) so make sure you like that sourdough taste! The focaccia was incredibly tasty. The baguette was demolished by my kids upon returning home. The polenta boule was good but I think I would try something different next time. It was a fun outing to St. Johns!
Recently when I eat at a place I really like, I try to ask the people who work there what places they like the most in Portland. Someone mentioned Starter Bread once, so I took the bus over one Sunday morning and gave it a try. They're not open to the public very often. Just Sundays from 10am-2pm. The majority of their sales, from what I understand, are through this subscription service. Check out their website ( https://www.starterbread.com/). Idk though. Maybe they sell to restaurants too. Anyway, I got a loaf, brought it home, sliced it up and toasted it on a skillet. It was great. Soft. Good flavor. Some sourdough, some wheat, some nuttiness. All pretty subtle though; nothing overpowering at all. And in reading through their website, apparently they are really, really into using high quality ingredients and stuff, so that's cool. I didn't like the crust though. Crunchy is ok, but this crust was hard and tough to chew. As for the stuff I ordered to eat for brunch on Sunday, I wasn't very impressed. The two cookies felt kind stale to me and lacked for flavor. They also weren't warm. Warm cookies are the best. It's tough for a cookie to excel if it isn't warm. I also got this little sandwich on a baguette with gruyere, apple slices, and some jam. I have very mixed feelings about this sandwich. On the one hand, the gruyere was absolutely delicious. It's been on my mind ever since I ate it. Like, I want to go back for more. The apple slices were super thin and delicious. The jam gave it a nice little kick. But the baguette I really didn't like. I feel like given the bakery's excellent reputation I've gotta be wrong, but it just felt stale and difficult to chew. Still, the gruyere was good enough that I really liked the sandwich overall. The other sandwich (yes, I eat a lot) was on this thick, rectangular, foccacia sort of bread. It had thinly sliced potatoes on top, cheese, and a hint of sauteed onions. Maybe some garlic too. I liked it, but didn't love it. The bread was soft and chewy. But! My big complaint is that none of the food was served warm! For all of these items, being warm and fresh just goes such a long way. "Fresh" I get that the logistics are difficult. But "warm" I feel like is fair to expect. Throw it in the oven or under the broiler or something for a few minutes before serving. Instead, they had everything pre-made and sitting out there to be handed to the customer room-temperature. So as a place to stop by for a meal, it's fine I guess if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. But I evaluate them more as a bakery to buy bread to bring home. And for that, they do a really good job.

Amazing bread. Go there right at 10 if you don't want to miss out on anything! Olive twist is extra fire!
I'll give this place a fair 3 since I'm not sure I got the right thing. Huge line outside when we got to the neighborhood to have breakfast nearby. After we ate, the line had died down so we stopped by. I got a scone which was very odd tasting. Like it had maybe baked in the same oven with other things that had garlic or onion. Also tried the onion loaf which was just tough and tasted sort of "day old." I'll give them another shot sometime and try other things.
