La visite commence alors que le jour se lève sur la nécropole de Gizeh, le célèbre site Egyptien qui abrite les trois grandes pyramides. Dans leurs ombres se dessinent les silhouettes des mastabas ; les tombes de ceux qui furent les proches des monarques défunts, leurs familles. 

Vous n’êtes pas seul pour arpenter ces terres millénaires. Accompagnés par un guide virtuel et d’autres voyageurs aussi réels que vous, vous commencez par fouler à l’échelle de géants le sable éternel du plateau de Gizeh à la rencontre du Sphinx, pour vous rendre ensuite au pied de la pyramide de Khéops à la nuit tombée pour une visite VIP.

L'Horizon de Khéops, an immersive VR journey into the heart of a pyramid, at Bercy Village

You may remember that this experience was presented as a world preview at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. Good news: it's back, to our great delight! From November 11, 2023, head to Bercy Village to plunge into Khéops Horizon , an extraordinary immersive VR journey . More information on the precise location and definitive dates of the experience should be announced shortly.

This is an event not to be missed , an extraordinary epic that many have dreamed of since childhood. Come and visit one of the seven wonders of the ancient world , an archaeological treasure trove, monumental proof of Egyptian architectural genius, dating back 4,500 years. This virtual expedition to discover the Great Pyramid of Cheops takes us to the Giza plateau in Egypt. At the end of 2023, L'Horizon de Khéops will take us on one of the world's finest immersive journeys , without leaving the 12th arrondissement of Paris.

Emissive , a company specializing in augmented and virtual reality experiences, worked for three years with Peter Der Manuelian , professor of Egyptology at Harvard University and director of the Giza project. Scientific knowledge and cutting-edge technology come together to create a true-to-life experience.

Equipped with virtual reality equipment, you can wander freely through this extensive trail, discovering this time-tested masterpiece, one of the oldest man-made structures still standing.

With the help of a connected backpack and a headset, you can travel instantly to the foot of King Cheops' tomb. For 45 minutes, our virtual guide Mona reveals all the secrets of the pyramid and its occupants. This augmented reality experience allows us to discover spaces closed to the public, richly decorated galleries, burial chambers... And even climb effortlessly to the top of the pyramid, to admire Cairo as it is today.

Our journey comes to an end with a leap in time: we're taken aboard a funerary barge on the Nile to witness the funeral of King Khufu, three thousand years BC.

This one-of-a-kind experience offers us a truly exotic adventure: we find ourselves teleported to Egypt, crossing eras and exploring the bowels of the pyramid with a single step. The immersion is such that many visitors have experienced unprecedented sensations on this journey. Immersed in this world in which we move freely, some explorers say they felt the cold as they entered the pyramid, had sensations of friction as the figures passed close to them, smelled the incense used during the embalming ceremony... For our part, this larger-than-life expedition gave us vertigo : from the top of the pyramid, the sensation of emptiness is very real! No matter: the spectacle beneath our feet was more than worth the slight discomfort. The gamble paid off for Emissive, who designed this marvellous journey .

Taking the subway to go all the way to ancient Egypt is totally possible, and you won't be disappointed with the journey: L'Horizon de Khéops , the new immersive experience at Bercy Village, takes you on a trip back to the time of the pharaohs.

This monument, as mystical as imposing , whose construction techniques may forever remain unknown to us, will have no more secrets for budding archaeologists after the 45-minute visit. Funeral chambers, decorations of all kinds, and spaces traditionally closed to the public come to life before your eyes, and rest assured, you can wander around without risk as a security system announces the presence of a wall through the screen, which is very real in this case.

A grand return to the past

Thanks to herculean work, this VR experience, more real than life, takes us back in time to the funeral of King Khufu , over 4600 years ago. After a little boat ride on the Nile , we discover all the tricks and details of the sacred ceremonies of mummification and embalming .

The feats and magic of technology are undeniable here, as the experience transports us to a dreamlike and fantastic world . Whether it's fulfilling a childhood dream or discovering a new passion, a Paris/Cairo journey in just a few minutes is truly worth it. But be careful, returning to reality might be a bit difficult after so many emotions.

Egypt's pyramid of Cheops explored in virtual reality in Paris

Wander in the bowels of the pyramid of Cheops, along the Nile on a dugout or attend the embalming of a pharaoh: thanks to virtual reality, the Arab World Institute (IMA) in Paris offers, from Tuesday, an immersive expedition in one of the seven wonders of the world.

Entitled "The Horizon of Cheops", this original journey is held until October 2. During 45 minutes, the visitor is transported in the Egypt of more than 4.500 years ago through one of its most important jewels.

"We are on something that is the order of the avant-garde," said Monday the director of the IMA, Jack Lang, praising a technical feat to the "very rigorous scientific content.

Built between 2.590 and 2.565 BC, this stone building 146 meters high is originally the largest ever made by man. Built to house the last residence of King Cheops, it continues to fascinate visitors from around the world.

Equipped with a helmet and a backpack, the visitor is immediately transported into a virtual world, which seems... very real. Personified by an avatar, he first enters the heart of the pyramid before strolling through its galleries.

The icing on the cake? The discovery of the king's room but also the spectacular view, from the top of the pyramid, of the Giza plateau, reconstituted.

In an atmosphere close to the 1,001 nights, the visitor moves mainly via a flying carpet made of stone.

To guide him, the Egyptian goddess Bastet (who has the shape of a giant cat) and "Mona", a tourist guide who takes care of detailing the feats of the construction of the pyramids, the meaning of the gods ...

In total, about fifty people can participate at the same time in this immersive experience.

A feat that is the result of three years of work conducted by the company Emissive, French flagship in virtual reality (VR), which has already been at the helm of the immersive project on the restoration of the cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris.

This company, which has been developing this video game-like technology for 15 years, intends to put VR at the service of culture.

"For us the educational vocation is essential project after project," said its president and co-founder Emmanuel Guerriero to AFP.

The cost of the experience is 29 euros per person, and 24 euros per person for a group of four minimum.
