Country music‘s Alan Jackson is hanging up his cowboy hat, announcing his final tour dates while his health is “getting worse.”

“I’ve been touring for over 30 years, you know, played everywhere in the country and parts of the world and had a wonderful career,” he said in a video posted on X, announcing the final dates of his Last Call: One More for the Road farewell tour.

The “Chattahoochee” singer, 65, cited a desire to spend more time with family — in particular, his three daughters and his grandchildren — as he enters his “twilight years.”

“I enjoy spending more time at home and don’t want to be away like I had to be in my younger days,” he said. “I think it’s just getting time to start thinking about hanging it up full time.”

Alan Jackson postpones upcoming weekend concerts to deal with ‘health issues’

‘I hoped I’d be able to be there; I hate to disappoint my fans,’ Jackson said of postponing a couple of upcoming weekend shows.

Another factor in Jackson’s decision was his diagnosis with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, a genetic neurological condition that affects muscle control in the feet and hands. The condition is not fatal but can severely restrict mobility, according to the Cleveland Clinic . The singer has had to postpone shows in order to deal with related health issues , notably halting a multi-show outing in 2022 to deal with “health issues” stemming from the disease.

“Most of my fans know I have a degenerative health condition that affects my legs and arms and my mobility,” the two-time Grammy winner explained in this week’s video. “And it’s getting worse.”

“It makes me more uncomfortable on stage and I just have a hard time. I just want to think about maybe calling it quits before I’m unable to do the job like I want to,” he concluded.

Implicit in the name of Alan Jackson’s current road show, the Keepin’ It Country tour, is the idea that this veteran country star is engaged in some resistance.

Feb. 28, 2015

The Country Music Hall of Fame member revealed his diagnosis in a 2021 interview on “ Today ,” explaining that he decided to make the information public because it was beginning to visibly affect his performances.

“I just wanted the fans and the public to know if they’ve come to see me in the last few years or if they come to see me in the future if I play anymore, what’s going on,” he told co-host Jenna Bush Hager.

“In some ways, [disclosing the condition is] a relief because I was starting to get so self-conscious up there, about stumbling around,” he said. “And it just made me nervous up there trying to keep my balance. And I look pitiful. So I think it’ll be good for me now to get it out in the open, and so if anybody’s curious why I don’t walk right, that’s why.”

At the time, the entertainer said he had no plans to stop touring but that his health condition might affect his availability.

Jackson’s final shows will be played from August to May in Boston; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Fayetteville, Ark.; Kansas City, Mo.; Salt Lake City; Oklahoma City; Fort Worth, Texas; Orlando and Tampa, Fla., and Milwaukee. Tickets went on sale Friday.

Jackson was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, 'a group of inherited disorders that cause nerve damage.'

By Stephen Andrew - June 6, 2024 05:20 pm EDT

After  health issues  derailed his initial farewell tour, Alan Jackson is going back out for one last drive . The country music icon has announced that his Last Call: One More for the Road Tour — which he began in 2022 but had to pause — will be fans' final opportunity to catch him live on tour.

"Fans know when they come to my shows, they're going to hear the songs that made me who I am – the ones they love," Jackson said, as reported by Taste of Country . "I've been touring for over 30 years – my daughters are all grown, we have one grandchild and one on the way... and I'm enjoying spending more time at home." He continued: "But my fans always show up to have a good time, and I'm going to give them the best show I can for this Last Call."

Back in 2021, Jackson revealed that he's been living with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease , which is defined by the Mayo Clinic as "a group of inherited disorders that cause nerve damage. This damage is mostly in the arms and legs (peripheral nerves). Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease is also called hereditary motor and sensory neuropathy." The inherited disease is not fatal — and does not decrease life expectancy — but it is currently incurable.

"There's no cure for it, but it's been affecting me for years. And it's getting more and more obvious," Jackson told Today at the time, also revealing that his grandmother, father, and one of his sisters all lived with the disorder. "And I know I'm stumbling around onstage. And now I'm having a little trouble balancing, even in front of the microphone, and so I just feel very uncomfortable."

Ultimately, complications related to the disease caused Jackson to have to halt the Last Call: One More for the Road Tour in 2022.

Is Alan Jackson Retiring? Here’s Everything We Know

Alan Jackson has announced what could be construed as a farewell tour for 2024, but it's not entirely clear if the new dates will mark his actual exit from the stage. Is Alan Jackson actually retiring from touring? Well, we don't really quite know — and it's not clear if even he does.

Did Alan Jackson Announce a Farewell Tour?

Jackson announced a limited number of tour dates for 2024 and 2025 on Wednesday morning (May 30). Jackson will perform 10 dates, beginning in August of 2024 and running through May of 2025.

A carefully worded press release announcing the tour stopped short of calling the dates a "farewell tour," but Jackson is calling the tour the Last Call: One More for the Road Tour, and the press release states that the upcoming dates mark "the last time he’ll ever perform his more-than-30 years of hits in that city and surrounding areas."

"The Last Call: One More for the Road Tour serves as just that – one final chance for people to see and hear the iconic singer-songwriter perform his best-loved songs – music that’s been the soundtrack of their lives – in concert," the press release continues.

What Are the Dates and Cities for Alan Jackson's Last Call Tour?

Aug. 2 - Boston, Mass @ TD Garden Aug. 24 - Grand Rapids, Mich. @ Van Andel Arena Sept. 28 - Fayetteville, Ark. @ Bud Walton Arena Oct. 26 - Kansas City, Mo. @ T-Mobile Arena Nov. 16 - Salt Lake City, Utah @ Delta Center Jan. 18 - Oklahoma City, Okla. @ Paycom Center Feb. 15 - Fort Worth, Texas @ Dickies Arena March 7 - Orlando, Fla. @ Kia Center April 26 - Tampa, Fla. @ Amalie Arena May 17 - Milwaukee, Wisc. @ Fiserv Forum

Will Alan Jackson Ever Tour Again?

Well ... maybe? The press release announcing the new concerts also left that question hanging, calling the announced shows an "initial list" of possible dates. Will there be more? Your guess is just as good as anyone's.

Why Would Alan Jackson Retire?

Alan Jackson has been dealing with an ongoing health crisis for years.

The country icon  revealed in 2021  that he had been living with a degenerative nerve condition for more than ten years. Jackson has been diagnosed with  Charcot-Marie-Tooth  disease, which causes nerve damage in the body, primarily in the arms and legs.

According to the Mayo Clinic, the disease can cause muscle contractions, a loss of sensation and make walking difficult.

There are also family reasons for wanting to step away, Jackson says:

“I’ve been touring for over 30 years – my daughters are all grown, we have one grandchild and one on the way... and I’m enjoying spending more time at home," he states. "But my fans always show up to have a good time, and I’m going to give them the best show I can for this Last Call."

Jackson previously announced what many assumed would be his final tour dates in 2022, but did not complete the tour due to his health issues.

Is Alan Jackson Dying?

Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease is not deadly, and it does not decrease life expectancy, according to the Mayo Clinic. But there is no known cure for the illness, which is inherited. According to Jackson, his grandmother, father and one of his sisters all lived with the illness.

Will Alan Jackson Ever Release More New Music?

The Country Music Hall of Famer shared his  optimism  about new music with his daughter Mattie on her  In-Joy Life  podcast in 2023.

"Well, yes. I would hope so," he said about recording new music (quotes via  People ). "I mean, I may not have toured much, but like I said, the creative part jumps out every now and then. I'm always scribbling down ideas and thinking about melodies, and I feel like there'll be some more music to come, yes."

Alan Jackson Extends His ‘Last Call: One More for the Road’ Tour Amid Ongoing Health Battle

Alan Jackson is having a good time on his farewell tour — so he’s decided to stay on the road a little while longer.

The country star, 65, announced on Thursday, May 30, that he would be adding dates to his Last Call Tour amid his ongoing health problems.

“I’ve been touring for over 30 years — my daughters are all grown, we have one grandchild and one on the way," Jackson said in a Thursday statement about the extension plans. "I’m enjoying spending more time at home. But my fans always show up to have a good time, and I’m going to give them the best show I can for this Last Call ."

Jackson — who shares three daughters with his wife, Denise — kicked off the tour in 2022, playing to standing-room-only crowds in sold-out arenas coast-to-coast. The 2024-2025 leg, meanwhile, will consist of 10 arenas across the United States, with each show marking the last time he’ll ever perform in that city and surrounding areas. Tickets will go on sale June 7, with a ticket presale available to members of Jackson's fan club via his website.

Everything Alan Jackson Has Said About His Battle With Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease

“Fans know when they come to my shows, they’re going to hear the songs that made me who I am,” he said of his tour announcement, “the ones they love.”

The Grammy winner released his debut album, Here in the Real World, in 1990, He has since become one of the most successful country stars of all time, selling more than 40 million albums worldwide and earning the title of Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year three times.

In September 2021, Jackson revealed that he had been diagnosed with Charcot-Marie Tooth disease, a hereditary disorder that affects the nervous system, causing progressive loss of muscle tissue and loss of sensation in the arms and legs. Patients may also experience trouble balancing and difficulty walking.

“I have this neuropathy and neurological disease,” Jackson explained during a Today show interview at the time.“It’s genetic that I inherited from my daddy. … There’s no cure for it, but it’s been affecting me for years. And it’s getting more and more obvious.”

Jackson noted that the disease doesn’t shorten life expectancy, but it can make movement difficult — especially for someone who is used to performing on stage every night.

Celebrity Health Scares Through the Years

“I’ve been reluctant to talk about this publicly and to my fans,” he explained while discussing the disorder, which also affected his grandmother and sister. “It’s called CMT, ironically enough, because CMT was a big part of my career.”

Despite his struggles, Jackson continued to play on the road, announcing his Last Call Tour in 2022.

“I’ve always admired my heroes like George Jones , Merle Haggard , Loretta Lynn and Charley Pride , who just played as much as they wanted to, as long as they could,” he said in a statement after the tour announcement. “I’ve always thought I’d like to do that, and I’d like to as long as my health will allow. I’ll try to do as much as I can, but if I’m comin’ your way, come see me.”

Alan Jackson Last Call farewell tour retirement Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease CMT country music

Alan Jackson performs at the 56th annual Academy of Country Music Awards on April 15, 2021 in Nashville, Tennessee. Jackson, 65, discussed his "Last Call" farewell tour and his health struggles with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease in a video posted to X. Country music legend Alan Jackson expanded on his decision to retire and his health struggles just days after announcing his “Last Call: One More for the Road” farewell tour in late May.

Jackson, 65, will play his final 10 tour dates across the U.S. from August to May 2025. After that, the two-time Grammy Award winner said he wants to enjoy his “twilight years” with his family at home.

“I’ve been touring for over 30 years, you know, played everywhere in the country and parts of the world and had a wonderful career,” Jackson said in a video posted to X . The video began with a question, “What makes now the time?”. “I’m getting into my twilight years, and all my daughters are grown, and I got one grandchild and one on the way. (I) enjoy spending more time at home, and don’t want to be away like I had to be in my younger days, and I don’t tour as much now as I did 10 years ago. I think it’s just getting time to start thinking about hanging it up full-time.”

Jackson also mentioned his battles with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (CMT), a chronic nerve disease that affects peripheral nerves outside the brain and spinal cord while also affecting muscle control in feet and hands, according to the Cleveland Clinic . He first revealed his CMT diagnosis during an interview on “Today” in September 2021. While there’s no cure for CMT, treatments include physical therapy, leg braces, special footwear, surgery and/or medications for symptoms.

“Most of my fans know I have a degenerative health condition that affects my legs and arms and my mobility that I got from my daddy and it’s getting worse,” Jackson said in the video. “So, it makes me more uncomfortable on stage and I just have a hard time. I just want to think about maybe calling it quits before I’m unable to do the job like I want to.”

Alan Jackson Extends His Last Call Tour Despite Health Issues

by Em Casalena May 31, 2024, 1:56 pm

Despite ongoing health problems, it looks like country star Alan Jackson will extend his Last Call: One More For The Road Tour well into 2025. The farewell tour will now end in Milwaukee, Wisconsin next year on May 17.

Videos by American Songwriter

The “Livin’ On Love” hitmaker was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie Tooth disease just a few years ago. The hereditary disease can cause progressive loss of muscle strength and balance issues. Jackson said in an interview that the disease has progressed and there is no cure. It’s likely that the disease makes performing live quite difficult for Jackson.

Despite the health issues, Jackson said that he wants to continue touring and give his fans a good sendoff before he retires.

“I’ve been touring for over 30 years,” said Jackson in a press release. “[…] I’m enjoying spending more time at home. But my fans always show up to have a good time, and I’m going to give them the best show I can for this Last Call.”

The first stop on the new list of tour dates will start on August 2 in Boston, Massachusetts at TD Gardens. The new closing date for the tour will be May 17 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at Fiserv Forum.

Alan Jackson Makes ‘Last Call’ With Headlining 2022 Tour

By Jon Freeman

Jon Freeman

Alan Jackson is calling for one more celebratory round with his new headlining tour Last Call: One More for the Road Tour, which gets underway in June.

Spanning 16 dates in total, the trek launches June 24 in Biloxi, Mississippi, and runs all the way to its Oct. 8 finish in Pittsburgh. Along the way, the “ Chattahoochee ” singer will visit Kansas City, St. Paul, and Austin. The closest he’ll get to Nashville is Knoxville’s Thompson-Boling Arena or Lexington’s Rupp Arena, but he did play a Music City gig at Bridgestone arena during a brief tour last October. Most dates for this tour will go on sale March 18.

The One More for the Road Tour is Jackson’s first outing since revealing his diagnosis with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disorder, a degenerative nerve disease that affects balance and movement through the arms and legs. A release announcing the tour doesn’t explicitly say it will be Jackson’s last tour before retiring, but there’s a hint of finality in the name of the tour and Jackson’s provided statement.

“I’ve always admired my heroes like George Jones, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, and Charley Pride, who just played as much as they wanted to, as long as they could,” Jackson said. “I’ve always thought I’d like to do that, and I’d like to as long as my health will allow. I’ll try to do as much as I can, but if I’m comin’ your way, come see me.”

Last year also marked a long-awaited new project from Jackson, who released the double album Where Have You Gone in May. It was his first full-length album in six years, following 2015’s Angels and Alcohol .

Last Call: One More for the Road Tour dates:
