  • This trip visits South America's west coast, the Andes and the Amazon Jungle, which means you'll need a flexible wardrobe no matter what time of year you travel. Please review the 'Climate and seasonal information' and 'Packing' sections of the Essential Trip Information.
  • Visitors are not permitted to explore Machu Picchu without a Machu Picchu guide (not our trip leaders) and must follow set routes within the site. This trip includes two guided visits of Machu Picchu and each visit is approximately 1.5 - 2 hours long. Your leader will provide more information to ensure you get the most out of your visits to this incredible site.
  • During the colder months, usually between April and October, the border crossing between Chile and Argentina may be closed due to snowfalls. In that event, your emergency funds may be needed to purchase a flight between Santiago and Mendoza. Please see the 'Money matters' section of the Essential Trip Information for more details.
  • According to Machu Picchu visiting regulations, all visitors must follow a pre-determined route within the site. This route must be followed in one direction only, and once the guided visit commences exiting and re-entering the site is not permitted. Once the guided visit concludes, visitors must exit the site and personal exploration of Machu Picchu is not permitted. Please refer to the itinerary for details.
  • Travellers who choose different ways of reaching Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or Train), will not follow the same routes within Machu Picchu. This means that you may not be able to have photos together, overlooking Machu Picchu. This applies to travellers on the same booking or separate bookings. It is possible for passengers who have taken the train to join passengers who have done the Inca Trail on the 2nd visit of Machu Picchu, by repeating the guided tour. If you are interested in this option, you must tell your sales agent when you book.

Welcome to Peru! Your adventure begins in Lima, where you will be collected from the airport on arrival and transferred to your hotel. Here you will meet your small group of fellow travellers and your local leader for a 2pm welcome meeting. Afterwards, head out to get to know the city on a walking tour of downtown Lima with your leader. Admire the colonial buildings of Plaza Mayor and visit the eerie catacombs of the Saint Francis Monastery, then head away from the tourist trail to Alameda de Chabuca Granda – an area popular with the locals. Stop off at the colourful street food stalls to sample some of Lima’s favourite sweet treats, like Peruvian donuts and mazamorra morada; porridge made from purple corn. But be sure to leave some room as tonight’s dinner is really something special. Lima has one of the world’s most revered culinary scenes, and this evening you’ll head to one of the city’s best restaurants with stunning views surrounded by ancient ruins. The creative chef offers up traditional Peruvian dishes with modern twists in a one-of-a-kind environment.

Today you will catch a flight to Puerto Maldonado. On arrival in the afternoon, take a bus to the port where you will board motorised canoes and head into the Amazon rainforest. Keep an eye out for macaws, herons, alligators and capybaras along the way. Here you’ll find Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion, your Feature Stay for the next two nights. Built in the heart of a 380 hectare-private ecological reserve, this unique resort is focussed on the conservation of local habitats and features 25 private cabanas plus an on-site team of expert local guides. Enjoy lunch at the lodge then explore the Concepcion Trails with an expert guide. As darkness begins to fall, join a guided Twilight River boat ride and see how many caimans you can spot lurking on the riverbanks. Dinner is a la carte and draws on local Amazon ingredients to create a meal to remember.

  • Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion (Feature Stay) or similar (1 night)
  • Amazon Jungle - Night boat tour

Today’s flight is approximately 1.5 hours.

Due to today’s boat transfer to the jungle lodge, the maximum luggage weight limit for the Amazon is 10kg. Your main luggage may be left in the lodge office in Puerto Maldonado and you will be provided with a small duffel bag to pack for two nights (your leader will provide more details). Walking boots are provided by the lodge, but we recommend you bring a raincoat, long sleeve shirts and trousers in neutral colours, insect repellent and a torch. Bio toiletries (soap, shampoo and conditioner) are provided by the lodge for minimal impact to the surrounding environment.

After breakfast, board a dug-out wooden canoe to quietly glide across Lake Sandoval, keeping an eye out for red howler monkeys, giant river otters, and colourful macaws along the way. After lunch you may like to walk along the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway, a 344 metre network of suspension bridges that take you high above the forest floor to some of the best places to spot toucans, woodpeckers, monkeys, and three-toed sloths. Join a night walk to discover the nocturnal activity in the surrounding areas or book into the lodge’s spa (own expense), before you meet your group for dinner.

  • Amazon Jungle - Oxbow Lake
  • Amazon Jungle - Night jungle walk

This morning you will travel back to Puerto Maldonado, then take a flight to Cusco, the former centre of the Incan Empire. Arrive in the early afternoon and settle in to your hotel, then head out with your leader for an orientation walk to familiarise yourself with one of South America’s oldest city and get used to the high altitude. Stop by the stunning Plaza de Armas, the heart of the city, flanked with colonial buildings and ornate churches. Visit the World Heritage-listed Cusco Cathedral, built on top of an Incan palace and one of the city's greatest repositories of art. Here you will meet with a local historian guide who will provide expert insight on the colonial art, architecture and history of this magnificent building and the city surrounding it. The evening is free for your own discoveries – Cusco offers no shortage of excellent restaurants, and as night falls the city is swept up in a flurry of live music and late-night street food stalls.

  • Antigua Casona San Blas or similar (1 night)
  • Cusco - Leader-led orientation walk

Due to COVID-19, there are no non-stop flights between Puerto Maldonado and Cusco currently operating, so your flight will transfer in Lima. If you arrive late in the day, your activities for the afternoon in Cusco will be moved to the following morning.

Today you will discover more of Cusco’s charms on a walking tour with your leader. Visit the Coricancha Temple, once the most important temple in the Incan Empire. Formerly plated in thick gold, the Spanish built a Dominican church atop its walls. Meet with a local guide to uncover the secrets of the temple and the ancient civilization that first built it. Afterwards, head to the San Pedro market, where you can practice your bargaining skills and take some colourful pictures, then swing by the Plaza de Armas for another look at the marvellous cathedral. The afternoon is free for further explorations – speak to your leader about the option to arrange a cooking class at a local restaurant using fair trade products, or the half-day Inkilltambo trek, exploring an archaeologic site on the city’s outskirts.

  • Cusco - Coricancha Temple (entrance fee)
  • Cusco - Walking tour
  • Cusco - Cathedral tour with Specialist Historian Guide
  • Cusco - Inca Museum (entrance fee) - PEN10

This morning, travel through the Sacred Valley towards Ollantaytambo, passing maize crops and fertile terraces carved high into the valley walls. Stop by the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, where the massive stone blocks that form the walls of this site provide an impressive picture of how greatly developed Inca engineering was. Visit the Willoq community to gain a greater insight into the local lifestyle with a visit to a local workshop where you’ll learn about traditional textile techniques that are used by the community – and you’ll even have the chance to make your own bracelet with the local women! Sit down for a festive pachamanca lunch. Aftwerwards, visit AMA, a local restaurant specializing in organic produce, and learn how they support single mothers in the Sacred Valley while enjoying a snack and drink. Continue on to Ollantaytambo, a magnificent example of Incan urban planning and the perfect warm up for Machu Picchu. Explore Ollantaytambo's archaeological site with an expert local guide who will discuss the evidence of the Incas' engineering skills in the ruins of ancient aqueducts, irrigation canals, dams on the Urubamba River, imposing sets of terraces and centres of worship dedicated to Pachamama (Mother Earth). Late afternoon head to the hotel in Ollantaytambo and settle in for night.

  • Pakaritampu Hotel or similar (1 night)
  • Ollantaytambo - Archaeological site
  • Sacred Valley - Community workshops visit
  • Cusco - Sacsayhuaman
  • Sacred Valley - Home-cooked lunch
  • Sacred Valley - AMA Snack and Drink

Today’s total driving time is approximately 4 hours.

Due to luggage restrictions on the train to Machu Picchu you will be required to pack all necessary items for the next two days into a smaller bag. The remainder of your luggage will be stored securely in your Cusco hotel.

Today, travel from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes in style, boarding the 360 Machu Picchu Train. High, domed windows offer up unbelievable views of the Andes, allowing you to sit back in comfort and take it all in. The train also features an open air observation carriage so you can completely immerse yourself in the remarkable landscape – have your camera ready as this scenic journey will be one worth remembering. Disembark the train in Aguas Calientes, quickly drop your belongings at your hotel, then take a short bus ride up the winding road to Machu Picchu, where you will be joined by a guide who will take you through the ruins and tell you stories of its history and the ancestral people of the region. The true purpose behind Machu Picchu may always be a mystery, since no historical records of the complex exist. Most archaeologists, however, believe it to be the 15th-century headquarters of Emperor Pachacuti. Your leader can advise how to get the most out of your visit. Later, take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes to spend the night before heading back up to Machu Picchu first thing in the morning for your second visit.

  • MAPI Hotel or similar (1 night)
  • Machu Picchu - Entrance & Guided visit
  • Ollantaytambo - 360 degree train to Aguas Calientes
  • 1 Day Inca Trail - Add-on (Must pre-book) - USD380

Today’s train journey will take approximately 1.5 hours, plus a 30-minute bus transfer each way.

The 1-day Inca Trail hike (11 kms) is a great option for those wanting to experience trekking in Peru, without committing to the full four days. This trek starts from the train station known as 'KM 104' and after a steep ascent it follows the last portion of the Classic Inca Trail. Trekkers enter Machu Picchu at the Sun Gate in the afternoon, where there will be some time to take a few photos before taking a short bus ride down to Aguas Calientes to spend the night and rejoin the rest of the group. The following day, trekkers will return to Machu Picchu for a guided tour, while the rest of the group has an unguided visit. This trek is subject to permit availability and must be pre-booked (at a surcharge). Please contact your booking agent if you would like to book this activity.

Rise before the sun and take the winding road back up to incredible Machu Picchu. On your second visit, explore more of the extraordinary architecture of the many temples, palaces and living quarters. Looking at Machu Picchu as it sits against a backdrop of forested mountains is a truly breathtaking experience. Its mortar-free design is particularly earthquake resistant and the stones are so precisely cut that, to this day, not even a knife fits between them. You'll have time along the way to take any photos you may have missed yesterday. Take the bus back to Aguas Calientes, then catch a standard train back to Ollantaytambo. From here, you will make the drive back to Cusco for the evening.

  • Machu Picchu - Second visit

Today’s total driving time including bus transfers is approximately 3 hours, plus a 1.5-hour train journey.

In the afternoon, fly from Cusco back to Lima, where you will spend the night. In the morning, you'll depart Peru and head to Chile.

  • Lima Holiday Inn or similar (1 night)

As this is a combination trip, you will say goodbye to the Leader for the Peruvian portion of your trip at Cusco airport. On arrival in Lima, you will find a transfer waiting to take you to your hotel. You will meet the Leader for the Chilean portion of your trip at the hotel in Santiago on Day 10.

Depart Peru on an unescorted flight to Santiago, Chile. Set within a circle of snow-capped mountains, Santiago is vibrant, artistic and gourmet. On arrival, take an included transfer to the hotel where your adventure will begin with a welcome meeting at 6pm. If you arrive early, perhaps head out and explore the delightful Parque Forestal that’s just steps from your front door. After your meeting, it’s time to get acquainted with Santiago’s fantastic food scene during a welcome dinner with your leader and group. From baked casserole to razor clams cooked in parmesan cheese, Chilean food is hearty, fresh and most of all, delicious.

  • Altiplanico Bellas Artes Hotel or similar (1 night)
  • Santiago - Welcome Dinner

As this is a combination trip, your group leader and the composition of your group will likely change at this location. There will be a group meeting to discuss the next stage of your itinerary. We suggest you attend, as this is also a great chance to meet your new fellow travellers. It’s important that you attend the welcome meeting as your new group leader will be collecting insurance details and next of kin information at this time. Ask reception or look for a note in the lobby for more information on where the meeting will take place.

Get to know the city on a tour with a local guide who’s an expert on all things Santiago. Your guide will peel back the many layers of the city’s history, beginning at the main square of Plaza de Armas where you’ll hear the tales of the foundation of Santiago and its turbulent past. Continue to La Moneda Palace, the home of Chile’s presidential office, where your guide will fill you in on the country’s complicated political history. From here take the short drive to Parque Bicentenario, created in 2011 to commemorate 200 years of independence. Walk through the gorgeous grounds and discuss the cultural identity of Chileans today. Today’s lunch will be a celebration of Santiago’s finest produce. Stop by a local eatery and sample some excellent cheese, ham and wine – a taste of which will take you straight to the heart of Chilean culture. The rest of the day is free for your own explorations.

  • Santiago - City tour
  • Santiago - Gourmet bodega lunch

Enjoy a free morning in Santiago. Perhaps make a visit to the Mercado Central, Santiago’s celebrated fish market. Begin the journey to Valparaiso, stopping off for a wine tasting on the way in the Casablanca Valley. Sitting on a coastal plain between the capital and Valparaiso, Casablanca Valley is Chile’s fastest growing wine region, with rich soil and a perfect climate for chardonnay and sauvignon blanc. Visit a vineyard that is focused on sustainable and organic viticulture, as well as producing outstanding wines. Continue to the colourful Valparaiso, notable for its brightly hued houses spread across a series of hills overlooking the ocean. Your hotel for the next two nights has been delighting guests since 1885 and sits in the historic heart of the city. Enjoy an introduction to pisco atop its marvellous rooftop and take in unbeatable views of Valparaiso. Afterwards, perhaps head out and find yourself a place to sip some ancho reyes alongside locals for the evening.

  • Hotel Casa Galos or similar (1 night)
  • Casablanca Valley - Winery tour and tasting
  • Valparaiso - Rooftop pisco sours

Today’s total driving time is approximately 2.5 hours.

Listed as a World Heritage centre in 2003, Valparaiso used to be South America’s busiest port before the opening of the Panama Canal. It has since transformed itself into Chile’s most creative city which you'll learn more about on the walking tour today with a local guide. The ramshackle streets have long been home to artists, writers and musicians so there is no shortage on visual inspiration to prompt some questions about its background. The hills of Cerro Concepcion and Cerro Alegre are dotted with kaleidoscopically coloured houses, with cobbled streets weaving sharply uphill and concealing all manner of galleries, restaurants and shops. Later on, visit the Museum of Fine Arts, housed in a beautiful art nouveau chalet. Dinner this evening will be on your own. Perhaps visit an iconic local restaurant credited with the invention of chorrillana. This legendary Chilean dish is made up of french fries topped with beef, eggs and fried onions, and there’s no better spot to try it than at its birthplace.

  • Valparaiso - Walking tour
  • Valparaiso - Museum of Fine Arts (entrance fee)
  • Valparaiso - La Sebastiana Museo de Pablo Neruda (entrance fee) - CLP8000

Depart Valparaiso and head back to Santiago to catch a flight to Mendoza. As your plane crosses the Andes, you might catch a glimpse of Mount Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Americas at 6962 metres above sea level. In Mendoza, get to know the lively city with a gentle stroll around its wide, lively streets with your local leader. Technically a desert city, the extensive irrigation system here means Mendoza is remarkably green. Check out the city’s lush tree-lined spaces – from the sprawling Parque San Martin to petite Plaza Espana – and get a taste of local life along the bustling pedestrianised street, Peatonal Sarmiento. Head South towards wine country, and your countryside boutique hotel. Perhaps enjoy a dip in the pool before an included dinner.

  • Lares de Chacras or similar (1 night)
  • Mendoza - Leader-led orientation walk

Today’s flight time is roughly 1 hour.

Mendoza is Argentina's most prolific and significant grape-growing region, producing nearly three-quarters of the country's wine. The climate produces an excellent variety of grapes, with the region's signature being Malbec. Today you will get to experience this internationally renowned wine at its source during tours and tastings at three world-class and innovative wineries, each with its own distinct style and flavour. Meet with a local wine expert and gain inside knowledge on the varieties of grapes and different production methods used at each winery, and sample award winning bottles just as spectacular as the surrounding Andes mountain landscape. After the tastings, settle in for a special closed-door gourmet lunch at one of the wineries. Enjoy several courses paired with wines carefully selected to bring out the flavours in the wonderful food. In the evening, perhaps test your palate by attempting to pair the perfect wine with an authentic Argentine asado (barbecue-style food).

  • Mendoza - Tour of three wineries
  • Mendoza - Gourmet winery lunch

This morning fly from Mendoza to Buenos Aires, then transfer to your impressive boutique accommodation. Built in 1913, the historic hotel is located in the centre of the city with spectacular Art Nouveau charm. In the afternoon, soak up the Argentinean capital’s irrepressible mix of European and Latin culture on an orientation walk with your leader. Visit Florida Street, National Congress and the presidential palace of the Casa Rosada (Pink House) in the Plaza de Mayo. If there is time, your group may get to visit the Obelisk as well. The evening is free to explore. Be seduced by the world's most passionate dance at a tango bar, attend a raucous football match, or gorge yourself on the city's sophisticated culture and food.

  • Hotel Tango de Mayo or similar (1 night)
  • Buenos Aires - Leader-led orientation walk

Today’s flight is approximately 1.5 hours. This flight has a strict luggage allowance of 15kg (one piece) for check in luggage.

Today you will head north of Buenos Aires to explore the city of Tigre and its surrounding delta region. First, do as the locals do and catch the subway to San Martin square, then set off on a bicycle tour around Puerto Maldero and the Buenos Aires Ecological Reserve – where inhabitants of the city come for a peaceful escape and fresh air. Hop on a train to Tigre and get to know the city during a walking tour. Visit the local fruit market, follow the river along the stunning Paseo Victorica street and stop by the Tigre Art Museum to admire the European inspired building. Next, take a private boat through the third-largest river delta in the world, watching local life play out on the water as you go, then stop off on an island to enjoy a delightful homemade lunch. Take some time to swim, kayak or just sit back and soak in the beautiful island surroundings. Transfer back to Buenos Aires and spend an evening at leisure.

At Ahu Nau Nau, you will find the moai decorated with characteristic topknots. You will continue to Akahanga, where the breeze sweeps across the windswept grass. With a day at your leisure on Easter Island, you can discover the treasures beyond the mysterious archeological features. For a unique exploration of the island, you can enjoy a snorkeling tour to uncover the abundant wildlife in the surrounding coral beds. Show Full Itinerary

Lima has one of the world’s most revered culinary scenes, and this evening you’ll head to one of the city’s best restaurants, set in a historic house in the artistic Barranco neighbourhood. Inspired by the home-cooked food of his mother, the creative chef offers up traditional Peruvian dishes with the atmosphere of a welcoming family home.

Today you will catch a flight to Puerto Maldonado. On arrival in the afternoon, take a bus to the community port of Infierno where you will board motorised canoes and head upstream into the Amazon rainforest.

Stop of at the Xapiri Ground art gallery and cafe – no ordinary eatery, this project empowers indigenous communities to maintain their cultural traditions through collaborative art installations and fair trade practices.

Visit the Chichubamba community to gain a greater insight into the local lifestyle with a traditional Andean lunch and a visit to a local workshop - either making pottery or chocolate and corn beer.

Disembark the train in Aguas Calientes then take a short bus ride up the winding road to Machu Picchu, where you will be joined by a guide who will take you through the ruins and tell you stories of its history and the ancestral people of the region.

In the afternoon, fly from Cusco back to Lima, where you will spend the night. In the morning, you'll depart Peru and head to Chile.

Depart Peru on an unescorted flight to Santiago, Chile. Set within a circle of snow-capped mountains, Santiago is vibrant, artistic and gourmet. On arrival, take an included transfer to the hotel where your adventure will begin with a welcome meeting at 6pm. Your Feature Stay accommodation for the next two evenings is the fabulous Altiplanico Bellas Artes. Converted from a historical house built in 1909, the hotel focuses on stylish architecture and creative interior design while retaining the welcoming spirit of the home it once was. The hotel’s enviable location serves as a perfect base for your first explorations of Santiago.

Later on, visit the Lukas Museum which houses the collection of original works by the cartoonist, illustrator and chronicler Renzo Pecchenino, Lukas. Dinner this evening will be at an iconic local restaurant credited with the invention of chorrillana. This legendary Chilean dish is made up of french fries topped with beef, eggs and fried onions, and there’s no better spot to try it than at its birthplace.

Depart Valparaiso and head back to Santiago to catch a flight to Medoza. As your plane crosses the Andes look down to perhaps catch views of Mount Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the Americas at 6962 meters above sea level. Once in Mendoza, check into your hotel, then get to know the city with a gentle stroll around its tree-lined streets with your local leader.

Meet with an expert oenologist and gain inside knowledge on the varieties of grapes and different production methods used at each winery, and sample award winning bottles just as spectacular as the surrounding Andes mountain landscape. A visit to Aristides Villanueva Street after dark is a must if you enjoy a bit of nightlife.

Your trip comes to an end after breakfast this morning. If you're planning to stay on in Buenos Aires we can assist you in booking extra accommodation ahead of time (subject to availability).

Day 14 FULL DAY EXCURSION TO TORRES DEL PAINE NATIONAL PARK

The Torres del Paine National Park is located between the Andean Cordillera and the Patagonian Steppe and gets its name from 3 granite spires: Las Torres (the Towers). The park is home to four different vegetation zones: Patagonian steppe, Pre-Andean shrubland, Magellanic subpolar forests, and the Andean desert – throughout which you will find unique landscapes, with turquoise lakes, lagoons, waterfalls, and impressive glaciers. Archeological proof indicates that the zone was once permanently inhabited during millenaries. (from the 6th to the 5th millenary BCE), by people that belonged to the ancient hunting tribes of the pampas, Tehuelches’ ancestors. We have indeed found signs of presence along the Sarmiento Lake and Serrano River banks. After these primitive hunters came the Aonikenk Nomads between 1500 and 1870, who were Tehuelches living south of the Chubut River. The Tehuelches always had a very extended knowledge of the mountain-range that they would call Paine or Carrón, and for which they had deep respect.

Day 15 SAILING TO THE BALMACEDA & SERRANO GLACIERS

Regular shared transfer (to/from your hotel) to the pier, and regular shared sailing to the Balmaceda & Serrano glaciers (with a bilingual English-Spanish guide).

This fjord crossing will take you towards the top of the Balmaceda (2035m), at the bottom of which it seems as if a huge waterfall froze thousands of years ago: this is the Balmaceda Glacier. It is quite impressive to listen to the cracking ice, which breaks off and falls into the otherwise calm motionless fjord. The landscape is a unique mix of green areas, covering the hills and mountains, and of turquoise water that seems to blend into the impressive glaciers. During the cruise, you will be able to see sea lions and cormorants. Then, you will top and get off of the boat for a short 1km walk, across a forest of native trees, to reach the bottom of the Serrano Glacier, and appreciate this magnificent work of nature.

You will constantly be able to observe and discover different species during the expedition.

Afternoon at leisure for you to discover Puerto Natales.

First of all I would like to express my deep gratitude to main organizer of trip Daniel and all guides of the company!!!

Our agent Daniel was extremely helpful and great building the itinerary. We loved working with him! He was so fantastic. Peru, Argentina, Patagonia, Rainforest, and Chile all went well. Brazil was a little bit messy and the organization was disappointing in comparison to the rest. The hotel in Rio was absolutely horrible and I had mentioned that before and nothing was changed. We booked months in advance so it being a long holiday weekend should not make a difference. The hotel should have been changed way before as I asked. It was below standard and should not be an option because it was old, dirty, with bugs and run down and in a very unsafe location. For Manaus, our driver was late and no one communicated it to us. I had to reach out and we didn’t have a lot of information. Also, there should have been some options to do the meeting of the waters tour in the rainforest we had plenty of time and we ended up scheduling it last minute because the agent there (Nathalia) didn’t include it and couldn’t get us on a boat. The local agent worked with us instead. It would have been better to have everything paid for and done in advance. So overall, Brazil team could have done a better job. The rest of the teams in the other countries were great!

Overall experience with Latin Discoveries was good, dealing with Daniel and other team members via WhatsApp was pretty quick and easy. However, there were couple of instances which i believe can be improved upon. 1. once i had approved the proposal and payment was made, I had to send couple of emails asking if the payment was received or not. 2. the travel books came in as seperate for each country, however for ease of understanding if an overall summary would have been given it would have been good. 3. the travel book came pretty close to our travel so not much time to review and question some of the timing (flight times etc.)

Welcome to the Capital of Chile

The first day of your trip will start in the vibey city of Santiago and from here you will start your tour through Chile.

Upon landing in Santiago, Chile, our local representative will be waiting for you to take you to your hotel. ‘Santiago is Chile’ say the Santiaguinos, and a visit to this great city will show you why.

Located in central Chile, backed by the Andes to the east, the city was founded in 1541 in the fertile valley in which it sits. After settling into your hotel, you´ll have the remainder of the day to explore at your own leisure.

Santiago is Chile’s cultural, commercial, industrial, and political center. A cosmopolitan city, with ample restaurants, bars, hotels, and shopping, from tiny boutique and craft fairs to giant shopping malls. There are cultural attractions such as art galleries, museums, theaters, opera and ballet, lively nightlife, plus parks, tree-lined streets, and distinct neighborhoods.

You’ll see brand new high rises and supermarkets next to old, shabby buildings. You’ll have to fend off vendors and peddlers on the busses but ride in peace and comfort on the ultra-modern subway system.

Included: Private transfer from Santiago airport to your hotel with assistance; Accommodation in Santiago. (Meals – None).

Santiago like a local

By day two, you’ll no doubt be infected by the buzzing atmosphere of Santiago. This day is all about experiencing the city like a local.

Explore the exciting city of Santiago like a local with our fun and immersive city tour.

Accompanied by your private guide, you’ll discover hidden hotspots as well as the tourist highlights of Santiago. The trip begins with a subway ride to the Metro Station University of Chile. From here, you’ll wander along the main pedestrian city promenade, visiting iconic buildings such as the Palacio de Gobierno La Moneda and the Santiago Stock Exchange.

Next, you’ll set off towards Plaza de Armas, home to the gorgeous Cathedral, the Natural History Museum, and the Central Post Office. You’ll stop at Vega Central for a traditional Chilean snack before heading into the colorful bohemian district of Bellavista, where you’ll try a classic Santiaguino drink.

From here, you’ll hop in the cable car to the top of San Cristóbal, offering panoramic views over the entire city. Afterward, your guide will give you some local options for lunch (not included) before leaving you to spend the rest of the day in Santiago exploring at your own pace.

Included: Private Walking tour in Santiago with One-way metro ticket, Guide, Accommodation in Santiago. (Meals – Breakfast)

Arrival to the Chilean Desert

It’s time to hit the road again as you make your way to Atacama. Your private transfer will take you to the airport to hop on your flight towards Calama.

Upon landing in Calama airport, your private transfer will take you to San Pedro de Atacama . If arriving from a lower altitude, we would recommend spending your first day in San Pedro de Atacama relaxing and getting used to the altitude before doing anything overly physical.

San Pedro de Atacama is a town set on an arid high plateau in the Andes mountains of northeastern Chile. Its dramatic surrounding landscape incorporates desert, salt flats, volcanoes, geysers, and hot springs. The Valle de la Luna in the nearby Los Flamencos National Reserve is a lunarlike depression with unusual rock formations, a huge sand dune, and pink-streaked mountains.

Included: Transfer from hotel to Santiago airport in private service; Transfer from Calama airport to hotel in Atacama in group service; Accommodation in Atacama. (Meals – Breakfast).

Altiplanic Lagoon & Atacama Salt Lake

You’ll be used to the altitude by now and have an exciting day ahead exploring San Pedro de Atacama.

Travel between flamingo-filled lagoons, horizon bound salt flats, and highland lakes on this full-day group tour from San Pedro de Atacama, whisking you through Chile’s most stunning natural landscapes.

Setting off early, you’ll head for the Salar de Atacama, a gorgeous expanse of grey-white salt dotted with wetlands. This unique and fragile habitat is home to all kinds of birdlife, including large flocks of bright pink flamingos. Here, you’ll follow a nature trail, stopping at the viewpoints to observe the flamingoes and snapping some once-in-a-lifetime shots.

Next, you’ll ascend to the Andean highlands, reaching 4,200 meters above sea-level. Hopping off the bus, you’ll walk along the shores of two deep-blue lakes mirroring volcanoes and surreal, pastel-colored wetlands. Back down in the Atacama Valley, you’ll hike through a hidden gorge named the Quebrada de Jere, an oasis of fruit trees, flowers, and herbs near the traditional Andean village of Toconao. It’s a day of eye-opening contrasts, giving you a spectacular glimpse of the Atacama.

Included: Altiplanic Lagoons & Salt Lake Group excursion with guide and transport, Entrance fees; Accommodation in the Atacama. (Meals – Breakfast).

Tatio Geysers

On day five you’ll have a magical day discovering the gurgling geysers and mystical mud pools.

Early in the morning, explore the highest geyser field on the planet during this brilliant half-day group tour. Hidden up in the Andes at 4,300 meters above sea-level and surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks, El Tatio is like nowhere else on earth. The geysers are most striking around daybreak when temperatures hover around the sub-zero mark, so you’ll leave San Pedro de Atacama before dawn to get the best views of the hydro-activity.

As you wander between gurgling steam vents and bubbling mud pools circled by multicolored mineral deposits and bright algae, the early start will soon pay off. Known by the locals as’ The Weeping Grandfather’, El Tatio is a mythical site that feels almost like part of a fantasy world. Once you’ve finished exploring the geysers and snapping the action, you’ll be treated to a buffet breakfast, where you can warm up with a cup of coffee.

Afterward, you can enjoy a relaxing soak in the natural hot springs before hopping back on the bus. On the way back to San Pedro, you can take a light trek along the mountain brook of Puripica, passing through a cactus-lined canyon.

The afternoon is free for you to spend at leisure.

Included: Half day Tatio Geyser group tour with guide and transport, Entrance fee; Accommodation in Atacama. (Meals – Breakfast)

Altiplano to the Andes and Cusco

Check out how you’ll be spending day eleven of your Chile, Peru, and Bolivia tour. This is an action-packed day full of fun and cultural activities.

Today at the arranged time, you will be taken to the bus station to begin your journey to Cusco. If you like to upgrade your experience, there is also a Luxury Train from Puno to Cusco that departs on specific days of the week (optional).

Leaving Puno and Lake Titicaca behind, you’ll start your journey by a comfortable tourist bus to Cusco. Stopping at the once-great pre-Hispanic city of Pukara, characterized by its huge pyramids, you will visit the lithic Museum where several artifacts of this period can be admired. The village is also known for its traditional ceramics known as “Toritos de Pucara”. Following your tour of Pukara, which will last around 35 minutes, you’ll board the tourist bus and head towards your next stop at La Raya. At 14,222 ft (4,335 m) above sea level, this marks the highest point of the route and is here where the Vilcanota River otherwise known as, the Sacred River of the Incas, is born and flows down through the mountains before joining the Amazon River.

The tour lasts around 10 minutes before continuing your journey to the fascinating archaeological complex of Raqchi. Stare in amazement at the monumental size of Raqchi and its temple, which has walls reaching up to 49 ft (15 m) and is unique in the Inca Empire.

The tour of Raqchi lasts for around 40 minutes and then you will continue to the last stop before arriving at Cusco, Andahuaylillas. This charming 16th Century village has a beautiful Main Square with the Church of San Pedro de Andahuaylillas; the pride of the town and its people. It is one of the most beautiful Baroque churches built under Spanish influence in the Americas and is often referred to as the “Sistine Chapel of the Americas”. Cusco like a local

Today is the day to dive deep into this amazing city in the Peruvian Andes. You’ll get a chance to experience a ton of Cusco highlights.

Walk around the Imperial City of the Incas, starting at the local market of Cusco, where you will experience a bit of Peruvian Culture and daily Cusqueño life. In the market, you can find the best variety of vegetables, bread, and fruit in the country. Continuing this pleasant walk you’ll visit the impressive Colonial Cathedral in Cusco containing over 400 paintings from the Cusqueña School and several beautiful altars.

Afterward, you’ll visit Koricancha, which is considered a religious center of Cusco, geographical and political. The Temple of Koricancha, was where the Inca paid homage to the Sun god called Inti. Qori means goldwork and Kancha means an enclosed space, bounded by walls. Then you’ll walk uphill a bit to enter the artisan quarter of San Blas, where you’ll be able to appreciate a religious painting and many workshops where, if they are available, you can watch artisans in action. After this, you’ll return to your hotel.

Included: Walking city tour with San Blas neighborhood and San Pedro market with a private guide and entrance fees; Accommodation in Cusco. (Meals – Breakfast).

Sacred Valley of the Inca

Bring your bargaining skills for today’s activities. You will have the chance to browse and purchase the world-renowned Peruvian tapestries.

After being picked up from your hotel your tour will start with a brief pit stop at the Mirador de Qorao or Awanacancha before heading up to Pisac. A famed hill town, Pisac is a great place to purchase top quality Andean knitwear at lower prices than you will find in major cities during your trip to Peru. Woven blankets, tapestries, and alpaca garments such as sweaters and mittens, colorful fabric, and accessories are found in abundance at the Pisac market in addition to pottery, jewelry, and other handicrafts. Then, you will visit the archaeological site of Pisac.

You will go to the ‘Tanqanamarca Cemetery’, where there existed an estimated 10000 burials and to the ‘Qantas Raqay neighborhood’ area, for farmers. It is composed of rustic stone buildings built on the edges of the cliffs. Afterward, you will go for a buffet lunch in the Sacred Valley, set in extensive gardens with beautiful views across the Valley. Then, you continue to an attractive little town located at the western end of the Sacred Valley, Ollantaytambo. The town has been built on top of original Inca foundations and is the best surviving example of Inca town planning.

The temple area is at the top of steep terracing which helped to provide excellent defenses. The stone used for these buildings was brought from a quarry high up on the opposite side of the Urubamba River – an incredible feat involving the efforts of thousands of workers.

Included: Sacred Valley tour in group service with transport, entrance fees, and lunch; Accommodation in Sacred Valley. (Meals – Breakfast, Lunch).

A Magical Machu Picchu Excursion

Day fourteen is the ultimate bucket list day and an opportunity that most people only dream about. Head to enchanting Machu Picchu, one of the most impressive places in the world.

Today at the arranged time, you will be taken to the Ollantaytambo train station to board your train to Aguas Calientes!

The citadel of Machu Picchu is by far the most important tourist attraction in the Sacred Valley. Discovered in 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham, this stronghold, overlooking the deep canyon of the Urubamba River, is considered to be one of the most extraordinary examples of landscape architecture in the world.

In ancient times, when the Inca was considered to be a descendant of a god, this fortress was considered his palace above the clouds, where only the chosen ones could live. Every trip to Peru should include this destination and World Wonder. In Aguas Calientes, you’ll board a bus for a 20-minute ride to the sanctuary of Machu Picchu, where you’ll have a guided tour to explore this magnificent sample of Inca architectural perfection. You can also hike up to Machu Picchu Mountain to admire more stunning views of the ancient Inca citadel from above. The hike will take you around two hours one way and about one hour to get back. After an extensive visit to this magical place, you will have some free time to take some pictures before taking the bus back down to Aguas Calientes.

Taking the train from Aguas Calientes you’ll head through the dramatic landscape of the Sacred Valley until you reach Cusco. Having acclimatized to the altitude the last few days, Cusco’s altitude (11,150ft. above sea level) should be no problem at all at this point, allowing you to get out and enjoy the town this evening, or get some rest at one of our lovely boutique hotels in Cusco.

Included: Private transfer to the train station; Train ticket to Aguas Calientes and back to Cusco; Private guided excursion to Machu Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain, entrance fees and Roundtrip bus to Machu Picchu; Private transfer from the train station in Cusco to your hotel; Accommodation in Cusco. (Meals – Breakfast).

Day at Leisure

Spend your final full day however you wish. You’re sure to be day-dreaming about the incredible time you had in Bolivia, Chile, and Peru.

Today is free for you to spend it at leisure but here is a good opportunity to learn more about the Peruvian Cacao that is one of the finest in the world. To do so we recommend taking a Chocolate Workshop in the ChocoMuseum where on a 2-hour workshop you will learn how to make your chocolate. This is a hands-on activity, starting from the cocoa tree to the finished product passing by every step of the whole chocolate-making process. You will also discover the history of cocoa and the reasons why Peru is known for its fine chocolates.

Included: Accommodation in Cusco. (Meals – Breakfast)

Leaving Cusco

Pack your bags, do some final souvenir shopping, and get ready to say goodbye to beautiful South America.

We have no doubt that you’ll be saying goodbye with a heavy heart after experiencing one of the best Chile, Peru, and Bolivia tours.

Enjoy your last morning in Cusco at your leisure. Later in the afternoon, you will be taken to the airport to begin your journey back home.

Included: Private transfer from the hotel to Cusco airport with assistance. (Meals – Breakfast).

- 25 de junio : Chile vs. Argentina (MetLife Stadium, New Jersey) / Perú vs. Canadá (Children’s Mercy Park, Kansas City)
