Credit where it's due, excellent service on a cancelled holiday claim

We initially went with Abta due to some pre-existing issues and they were the only company who weren't charging a ridiculous premium due to these issues. About 2 weeks prior to our planned trip, my wife took a bad fall and broke her leg. This of course meant we couldn't travel. I was a little nervous as it wasn't a package holiday, we had booked flights direct and an Airbnb directly. It was very easy to open the claim online and we entered all the details. We had a follow up message within 48 hours asking for some extra information which we provided. We got a call back a few days later clarifying everything was in order and we should receive a refund confirmation in the next 7 days. This came through and we received a payout against the costs of our entire holiday, minus £50/excess per person. I honestly can't fault a single element of the claims process, it was clear, concise, well laid out and easy to follow. We will definitely be using Abta for future travels.

Today I spent an hour on the phone

Today I spent an hour on the phone, being passed from one customer service agent to another. I was trying to extend the duration of my policy. It was a painful and difficult process and I ended up abandoning the attempt, getting a new quote from a different company - most likely less money - and buying another policy from them. I would NEVER use ABTA travel again. If this is an extension, I can’t imagine how difficult it would be to make a claim. This experience has shaken my faith in insurance as a concept.

Repeat customer - easy process

This is the 3rd or 4th time I've bought my and my partner's travel insurance through ABTA. The process to get a quote is so easy and the prices were fair, considering we both have pre-existing medical conditions. Even when considering other quotes, ABTA's policy coverage seems better. I've recommended it to others.

29/94/24 and 13/05/24

When I received email confirmation of my travel insurance on 29/04/24 it said if you required paper copy to call the number provided. I do not have a printer and thus I rang on 29/04 and was told paper copy would be sent no problem. Today, 13/05 and 2 weeks later, I have still not received it. Rang customer services again this evening and told there is a back log and will request again. Cannot give any indication of when I will receive the paper copy! Seems remiss that customer services couldn’t tell me initially that there was a backlog or now be able to tell me when will be sent. Could only make another request to whoever sends the paper copies out. Will I receive it by the time I go on holiday on 30/05 - she didn’t know! The CS person was polite but it’s still poor service. Will put me off using ABTA again.

Very impressed with the service so far.

Very impressed with the service so far. I have a Platinum Annual Policy, excluding winter sports. I'm lucky I have not had to claim on the policy but I'm very impressed with their customer service so far. I spontaneously decided to join friends for a couple of days of skiing and rang ABTA to ask whether they could tack this onto my existing policy somehow (rather than taking out another policy which then ends up somehow invalidating the first). ABTA had to confer with their underwriter, but called me back the next day and confirmed they would cover me for free for the weekend! The phone lines have always been answered super quickly, too. So far, can definitely recommend.

Three conferences in the 2024 programme are new for this year

ABTA is welcoming in the New Year with an Early Bird discount for its 2024 events programme. Delegates from across the industry can save 10% on all new bookings made by 2 February 2024 using code EarlyBird24*.
