Atop the two shrines of this temple are two vimanas, one in the Dravida style and the other in the Nagara style; both have stepped diamond forms. How To Reach Hubli?

Located 85 kilometers south of the Maharashtra-Karnataka border, Hubli is often cited as Karnataka’s second-largest metropolis. Not only is Hubli a well-known historical site, but it is also a major transportation hub and commercial hub for the cotton and iron industries. Hubli is home to several must-see sites, including Unkal Lake, Nrupatunga Hill, and the Indira Gandhi Glass House Garden. There are several options for getting to the city, including by car, train, or plane.

The airport in Hubli allows for easy travel to and from the rest of India. Only from Bangalore can you get a direct flight to Hubli. Anywhere in India, travelers may get a flight to Bangalore, where they can transfer to an aircraft to Hubli.

Hubli is well connected to the rest of Karnataka by bus. Hubli is serviced by both privately owned and government-operated bus lines. Those from other cities like Bangalore, Mysore , Chennai, Mangalore , Mumbai, Pune , Ahmedabad , or Tirupati may easily reach Hubli via bus.

Hubli is serviced by its station, which provides access to major urban hubs, including Kolkata , Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai , Mysore, Ajmer , Delhi , and Chennai . Many trains leave for Hubli from neighboring cities regularly.

What Is The Best Time To Visit Hubli?

The greatest time to visit Hubli is during the winter months of October through February. Hot summers and steamy monsoons make the city ideal for sightseeing and daring activities that would be unpleasant in cooler months. Due to the season’s average temperature of about 16 °C, light warm clothes will suffice. The local culture may be experienced via participation in events such as the November Dharwad Utsav.

Hubli is the most important city in northern Karnataka for administrative purposes. Each day, more businesses move into the city’s central business district. People have started companies, and those who foresee a prosperous future are establishing several huge corporations. Many Indian towns have lost their charm as a result of modernization and urbanization. Hubli has achieved a remarkable equilibrium between industrialization, cultural preservation, and environmental sustainability. Because of this, it should be high on your list of potential vacation destinations.

11 Best Places to Visit in Dharwad

I’ve lived in Dharwad for half a decade and never wrote much about this place, apart from the piece on the cafes in Dharwad . With my enthusiasm for exploring, here’s a list I made of the best places to visit in Dharwad along with all the most common ones too!

With more people traveling here, Dharwad has expanded a lot in the past few years. Only last year I wrote a piece on the cafes, and now much more has emerged!

Most places to check out in and near Dharwad are lakes, temples, colleges, parks, restaurants, and nature resorts. Tourism isn’t something Dharwad really puts its fingers into. Yet, it’s still one peaceful town to check out. Before we get into the best places to visit in Dharwad, here’s about the town itself.

Table of Contents

Best Places to visit in Dharwad: What’s Dharwad famous for

Dharwad’s known for being an educational hub for students from all over Karnataka, Dharwad Peda, and its peaceful climate. It’s close to nature and has easy access to the modern era necessities.

With its favorable climate and calm environment with a lot of greens around, many pensioners have settled down in Dharwad. In fact, you’re bound to find a gang of old men sitting and chatting away in the evenings – especially in residential areas.

dharwad

Speaking of trees, that’s another thing I’ve always loved about this place. When overlooked from a tall building, the overall landscape of Dharwad shall be more trees than the buildings.

Before we get into the best places to visit in Dharwad, here’s more about the town in detail.

Dharwad Peda

I never gave much attention to the Peda as it was common in households here in Dharwad. But moving to Bangalore , I realized Dharwad’s  recognized by the Dharwad Peda. In fact, it even has a GI tag for it in India!

To those who don’t know, Peda is a sweet delicacy that’s brown in color and sugar-coated around it. It originated from the Thakur family from Uttar Pradesh who shifted to Dharwad in the early 19th century. This Peda has been here ever since. The Babu Singh Thakur Peda shops you see here are all branches of the age-old shop.

Many other Peda shops have emerged in Dharwad ever since. But for the authentic taste, make sure to get it from the Thakur Peda and no place else. People used to line up for this shop’s Peda before it opened multiple branches!

Writers and Classical Artists from Dharwad

When you throw a pebble towards Dharwad, it’s bound to hit a writer or an artist . I’ve read this line somewhere in a book – I believe it’s Sudha Murthy. Yes, it’s true. There are classical music artists and countless recognized authors from Dharwad!

Some of which I’ve heard over the years are Sudha Murthy, Girish Karnad, and Bhimsen Joshi.

Education in Dharwad

Dharwad’s known for one thing and one thing only – education. Students all over North Karnataka, and several other parts, come here to study. Some of the most recognized schools and Universities here are the Karnataka University , Karnataka College (KCD),  and Janata Sikshana Samiti (JSS).

Some of these schools and campuses have been running for over 70 years ever since India’s Independence. But with education turning more into a business, the scenario has changed over the decades.

Most of Dharwad today is an endless chain of schools, colleges, post-school tuition classes, and other for-profit educational centers competing with one another for the student’s attention.

Best Places to Visit in Dharwad

I decided to write about the best places to visit in Dharwad, looking at how most sites left out the sweetest of places. Sites like Tripadvisor have glorified the resorts and camps, missing out on some local stuff.

1. Karnatak University (KUD)

With the Karnatak University right behind my house, I practically live here. I’ve walked inside this place thousands of times over the years and it never gets old. The lush greenery, the vast 750 acres, the ever silent paths, it’s nothing short of paradise!

It’s best to visit early in the mornings for a walk through the fogs here while the rest of Dharwad wakes up lazily. Walk by the majestic main building and take a stroll on the other side of it with – the path where trees generously welcome you through the shades.

From here, there are a few other spots to check out like the Regional Science Center in Dharwad and the view near the Tiwac factory.

2. Regional Science Center in Dharwad

As a kid, this place was a whole different vibe with all the outdoor exhibits. But over time, it’s gotten old and some mobile exhibits don’t work. However, it’s a great place for kids.

Long after my visits, life-size real exhibits of a tank and a warplane have been added near the entrance. With the vast area divided into indoor and outdoor exhibits, it’s worth spending a few hours here when in Dharwad. After all, the entry fee costs no more than a vada pav!

When I visited, it cost me around 15 rupees for all the exhibits excluding the 3D theatre show. Since it closes around 5:30 pm, visit it early in the evening. Also, the 3D show isn’t very worth it.

I found a detailed trip guide on the Dharwad Regional Science Center on another blog – lifeathangarki . They’ve some cool pictures of the exhibits to check out!

3. Hills by Tiwac

Many don’t know this, but Tiwac is only a manufacturing factory establishment on a hill. Until 1996, its main product was building mechanical clocks here in Dharwad. With less demand for the product, the company today manufactures various other mechanical products.

tiwac dharwad, tiwac company dharwad

So what’s to visit around here? This factory itself is set up on a hill. The hills around it are the catch. And, oh are they beautiful in the mornings at sunrise! With the early morning mist, the foothills of the hills beneath you become invisible. It’s nothing short of the vibe of standing on an island between clouds!

How to get to Tiwac Dharwad : It’s the same road as Karnatak University. Pass by the main building of the University and head straight past the park and the road circle. Head straight after the tiwac company over to the next hill.

Ask anyone for Tiwac here and they’ll tell you where to go!

4. Kelageri Lake

Kelageri Lake, named after the local area Kelageri, is one of the few remaining large lakes in Dharwad spreading over 170 acres. These are again best for chilly morning walks.

A part of the lake is lined with footpaths and maintained gardens on either side, making it a great spot to check out. Many people who walk, jog, or even cycle come here early to breathe in the crisp air by the waters.

Here’s some history about it: It was primarily built in Dharwad to support irrigation, and still today – you’ll find buffaloes bathing here in the evenings! However, it’s disappointing to see the waste people dump into it.

People have polluted it over the years, locals wash clothes here and sewage from different areas is dumped here. I wondered how some people were swimming  here when I visited.

Communities are becoming more aware of it. The public has been taking steps to clean the lake.

5. Someshwar Gudi

Writing this piece on the best places to visit in Dharwad, one of my relatives looking at this in-progress article suggested I pay this ancient temple a visit. I’m glad I listened! Checking up on Journeys across Karnataka before visiting, I doubted if it was the same temple. There were so many changes!

The temple’s stone structures today are painted in palettes of orange and golden. Yet, with the look of its walls’ texture and the borders of its  Kunda (temple tank), one can tell its been around for ages. Also, with all its doors facing east, it was fascinating to see its structure so well-maintained to date.

Curious about its history all of a sudden, I spoke to a priest sitting here who told me of its 12th-century building during the Chalukyan period. He went on about the deeper aspects of their more-than-human powers, most of which I didn’t understand.

But for those interested, read all about the idols at Someshwar Gudi on this Blogspot post .

6. Unkal Lake

With Swami Vivekananda’s statue at the center of the lake, temples, stalls, and a large park covering the lake, it’d be on this list of best places to visit in Dharwad.

However, this lake stands on the outskirts of the Dharwad. The lake greets one into the city of Hubli while driving on the highway between the two cities – Hubli Dharwad. This lake is spread across 200 acres and is over 110 years old, and its panoramic view is bliss to look at.

Unkal lake hubli, unkal keri dharwad, unkal lake dharwad, unkal keri hubli

With the large linear park sandwiched between the lake and the Hubli-Dharwad road, it’s become a popular spot to picnic for many. Moreover, the residential areas of Hubli nearby and the President Hotel looming over the lake make it all easier to get here.

Unkal Keri, however, is 15 kilometers from the heart of Dharwad – Jubilee circle. From Dharwad, the easiest way to get to Unkal lake or Hubli itself is by the BRTS Chigari bus.

7. Ulavi Basaveshwara Gudi

Every shrine has its own story. This one does too. I asked my grandpa are there were more best places to visit in Dharwad while and he suggested this G udi (temple). Though not much of a worshipper myself, I visited it anyway.

According to the blog – Life At Dharwad , this shrine has been around here since the 12th century. I read the Blogspot article before visiting it of how pilgrims would stay here ages ago while traveling. Where four pillars account for one private space for a family.

ulavi basaveshwara gudi

I sat at the temple for quite a while. Though unsure if I was really sitting in a pilgrim’s space, it was a blissfully calm moment for sure. When I visited in the morning, many students sat here too perched in various spots to read.

Others, like me, simply enjoyed the peace.

8. Sadhankeri Garden

Another sweet spot for a quiet morning walk is the Sadhankeri garden. I’d heard of it but never visited it. But for the sake of this piece, I decided to check it out. And I’m glad I did!

sadhankeri garden dharwad, sadhankeri garden, sadhankeri morning

Compared to other parks in Dharwad, this is the best one I’ve visited. Surrounding a small pond, the garden features many sitting areas inside, statues, walking pathways, and my favorite – many many trees.

As the garden officially opens late, the early morning walkers don’t pay to enter. I didn’t either. More than the pond, I loved the pathways. Under the shades of green, moss patches peek through the paving bricks as you walk. With the many pictures I captured of the place, I’m considering making a separate post on it!

sadhankeri garden dharwad, sadhankeri garden, sadhankeri morning

As to its whereabouts , it was built in the honor of the great Kannada poet Da Ra Bendre. The Sadhankeri Garden is right opposite his house – Bendre Bhavan. I wasn’t aware of it before I visited the garden, but today Bendre Bhavan stands as an Art Museum.

9. Nuggikeri Temple

Dharwad does have a lot of temples by lakes, doesn’t it? The Nuggikeri Hanuman temple comes on the Kalghatagi road around 6 km from the Toll Naka intersection.

It’s a far-off end from Dharwad and yet it gets crowded on Saturdays. When I visited in the morning, fortunately not many people were around. When visiting with a two-wheeler, I took the shortcut to visit this temple – the dirt path. Parking my scooter before the Nuggikeri lake, I walked the paved path by the lake to the temple.

It was one charming sight of the temple before the lake and its reflection dancing on the gently flowing waters. Across the lake’s other side, there were other old buildings beaming before their reflections.

10. KC Park

KC Park or the Kittur Rani Channamma Park, like the Karnatak University, is one of the most well-known parks in Dharwad.

Apart from the fountains and the playground here, this park also holds the memorial of John Thackeray – the British collector who was defeated during the war against Kittur Rani Channamma. The obelisk today has no clear labels whatsoever.

Added to it, what was once the pompous KC park in Dharwad is only a landmark today. Old people come here for morning walks and some kids play badminton. Neither are there many trees here nor do the fountains work.

When I visited in the morning, it looked nothing short of an abandoned park. But being Dharwad’s most well-known landmark, I added it to the list as well.

11. Green Resorts

With the climate and environment being a paradise to most, there are many nature resorts around Dharwad. No, they aren’t in the city. But on the outskirts of Dharwad, there are some large eco-resorts out there.

I went cycling the other day towards the Dandeli route from Tapovan, Dharwad. Past the dhabas and curvy roads, I made it to the Nature First Eco-Village by the road – and returned. I’ve yet to experience staying at one of the nature resorts.

nature resorts in dharwad

While these resorts are expensive, they’re great to get away from the hustle and bustle. However, for budget travelers (like me), here are some great accommodation deals from Booking.com.

Places to Visit Near Dharwad

More than the best places to visit in Dharwad, there are more places to visit near Dharwad. Locals here have easy routes to many close-to-nature lakes, rivers, dams, and towns.

People coming from Bangalore spend a lot visiting Dandeli for its riverside stays. Dharwad? It takes only a 2-hour drive (50 km) from here to Dandeli! Along with some friends, I even made a trip to a fall in Yellapur from Dharwad for under 500 bucks.

What makes it better is the sweet curvy routes to the destinations with incredible nature views. The journey itself makes it ecstatic to visit the places near Dharwad.

As far as my memory serves, here are the top places to visit near Dharwad:

  • Yellapur and its falls (75km)
  • Dandeli for rafting and nature stay (50km)
  • Kalakeri Viewpoint (15-18km)
  • Dori Lake (30km)
  • Supa Dam (69km)

I’ve yet to add more. Hit me up if you think you know of places to visit near Dharwad.

Another post for you to read:  A shoutout to Charlie Animal Rescue Center!

That sums up this piece on the best places to visit in Dharwad. Most people who’ve come to Dharwad to work have either settled down here or wish to settle down. Being away from the hustle and bustle of a metropolitan city and cheaper lifestyle, not to mention the homely climate, it’s hard to resist not to.

I’ve lived in Dharwad for half a decade and still do pay a visit to my family there at least once a year. I’ve lived there for the whole first pandemic wave and understood more about the hearts of people here than ever. I’ve yet to learn more.

But that should suffice for now. Have a great day :)

Where you can see northern lights Sunday night from another solar storm

Sunday night could offer another opportunity to see the northern lights unusually far south, though less than earlier predicted

places to visit near hubli for 2 days

If you missed the recent auroras over the past two days, you may have another chance. The sun will continue to send more activity to Earth on Sunday night and early this week.

Fast eruptions from the sun are expected to slam into Earth on Sunday night and Monday morning, triggering another round of geomagnetic storms, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Sunday is predicted to offer the best chance for aurora-chasing before this round of solar activity diminishes.

After predicting geomagnetic storms of level G4 or G5 — the most intense rating — on Sunday morning, NOAA downgraded the forecast to G3, meaning less likelihood for a repeat of Friday night , when storms brought aurora sightings down to Florida and Mexico.

Activity is expected to wane by the pre-dawn hours of Monday, although storm levels are still predicted to reach moderate (G2) to strong (G3). Auroras could be spotted as far south as Iowa and Washington state with the naked eye, but cameras could capture the dancing lights farther south.

By Tuesday morning, NOAA forecasts that geomagnetic storm activity will diminish to minor levels (G1). During a minor storm, only higher latitudes such as northern Michigan or Maine typically see auroras.

Will there be clouds in my area?

In the Northeast, people may struggle to see the aurora through clouds on Sunday night, although some breaks are possible toward Monday morning. Unfortunately, clouds will blanket much of the area Monday night to Tuesday morning.

In the Mid-Atlantic, the skies will be mostly clear from Sunday night into Monday, providing promising views from West Virginia to South Carolina. Heavy cloud cover moves in over the region on Monday night into Tuesday morning.

The southern United States (from Georgia to western Texas) will be largely covered in clouds from late Sunday night to Tuesday morning.

The West Coast and northern Plains should have primarily clear skies from Sunday night to Tuesday morning.

If your region has a cloudy forecast over the next few days, don’t necessarily fret. Sometimes breaks emerge in the cloud canopy. And while clouds will make it harder to see the northern lights, sometimes they also make for interesting photos .

Will you be able to see the northern lights around D.C.?

It is unlikely that auroras will be visible Sunday night in the D.C. region, according to NOAA’s 7:15 p.m. update.

Washingtonians had a brief window during which to see auroras early Saturday morning . But there were too many clouds and the geomagnetic storm wasn’t quite strong enough for northern lights to be seen Saturday night into Sunday morning — although auroras were reported in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains at 10:30 p.m. and about 12:30 a.m., as well as in the mountains to the west.

You will improve your chances of seeing the aurora borealis significantly by finding an observing location away from city lights (this advice applies to any population center). Also, the lights — if they appear — may be rather faint and only visible through your camera lens, which is more sensitive to light than your eyes. Look to the north to try to find them.

Where has the aurora already been seen this weekend?

The geomagnetic activity over the past few days has been one for the books, producing once-in-a-lifetime or once-in-a-generation aurora displays.

The weekend began strong with an extreme (G5) storm on Friday into Saturday morning. One space weather physicist collected aurora observations on X from every state in the United States, and from much of the Northern Hemisphere — including rare places like Italy, Austria, London, Mexico and India. Auroras were even spotted in tropical locations, including Puerto Rico and the Bahamas.

In the Southern Hemisphere, the lights — known as the aurora australis — were photographed in Chile , Argentina , New Zealand and Australia.

Although activity decreased Saturday night, storm levels still briefly reached into strong (G3) to severe (G4) levels. At its peak, people were able to snap aurora pictures in the mountains of Virginia.

Were any satellite or power grid operations affected?

Intense geomagnetic storms can disrupt satellite, GPS and power grid operations. After Friday’s storm, NOAA received reports of issues on some power grids and high-frequency radio and GPS communications.

The last time a G5 storm hit was in 2003. That one also brought widespread auroras and some power interruptions in certain regions of the globe.

Why has there been so much auroral activity recently?

The slew of auroral activity stems from a particularly bustling area on the sun known as active region 3664. The region — measuring about 17 times the diameter of Earth — is marked with a cluster of dark splotches, known as sunspots. Sunspots are areas on the sun’s surface where its magnetic field is much higher than anywhere else on the sun. These magnetically complex regions are often the source of large, explosive bursts on the sun.

So cool. On Saturday morning, CWG reader David Abbou took this video of the giant sunspot facing Earth (which you can see with solar eclipse glasses) and which has been responsible for the solar storms and northern lights. As he was recording, an airplane photobombed the shot! pic.twitter.com/N52dCzwjn5 — Capital Weather Gang (@capitalweather) May 12, 2024

Last week, the sunspot group launched multiple eruptions from its surface — called coronal mass ejections — toward Earth. Coronal mass ejections are large clouds of solar energy and magnetized plasma that can temporarily disturb Earth’s magnetosphere, if aimed correctly. Some solar particles travel along Earth’s magnetic field into our upper atmosphere, exciting molecules and releasing photons of light, or the aurora.

Geomagnetic activity from this sunspot group will last until around Tuesday, then the sunspot group will rotate away from Earth’s view. If it rotates all the way around the sun and faces back to Earth in several weeks, it could send additional activity our way. However, most sunspot groups weaken on second appearance.

NOAA scientists continually monitor the sun and are tracking any potential activity from other sunspot groups.

Jason Samenow contributed to this report.

2024 PGA Championship Round 2: Tiger Woods misses cut, Xander Schauffele leads

A bizarre day at the 2024 PGA Championship has come to an end.

Friday started in chaos after tournament worker John Mills was struck and killed by a shuttle bus as he arrived to work outside of the Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, Kentucky, subsequently delaying Round 2 tee times.

Mills’ tragic death was unfortunately overshadowed by the arrest of World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler , who faces four criminal charges, including second degree assault on a police officer, following a dustup with a Louisville police officer directing traffic at the course following the fatal accident.

"I feel like my head is still spinning,” Scheffler said after shooting 5-under on the day despite his arrest. "I definitely never imagined ever going to jail, and I definitely never imagined going to jail the morning before one of my tee times, for sure.”

Scottie Scheffler emerges from wild ordeal looking like a real person

Just after 6 a.m. on Friday, the best golfer on the planet found himself in handcuffs being led into a police car. Shortly after that, he was in a jail cell, doing some pre-round stretching in hopes that he could play the second round of the PGA Championship. And a few hours later, he was in front of reporters after shooting 66, putting him right in contention to win his third major championship.

Golf is a sport of monotonous routines, requiring a certain serenity of the mind and body for players to perform at the highest level. Or at least so we thought . — Dan Wolken

Tiger Woods ends second round with birdie, still misses cut

It’s official — Tiger Woods is out . He ended his second round at the PGA Championship on a high-note with a birdie on No. 18 to bring him to 6-over for the day and 7-over for the tournament, but he still sits 8 strokes above the projected cut line at 1-under.

It marks only the 13th time in Woods’ illustrious career that he’s missed the cut at a major.

He posted three birdies, three bogeys and two triple-bogeys during the round at Valhalla Golf Club, the same course he won the 2000 PGA Championship.

Who didn’t make the cut at PGA Championship?

It looks like Tiger Woods’ time at the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club — the course where he won the 2000 PGA Championship — is ending early. Woods is currently 8 over par through 16 holes on the second round, 10 strokes off the projected cut line at 1-under.

He’s not the only one below the cut line. Spain’s John Rahm (E), England’s Matt Fitzpatrick (E), Americans Dustin Johnson (+1), Wyndham Clark (+4), Phil Mickelson (+4) and South Korea’s Si Woo Kim (+5) are among the notable golfers who are projected to miss the cut at the PGA Championship.

'I was never angry. I was just in shock'

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — On Friday morning,  Scottie Scheffler  stretched in a jail cell, preparing for a round of golf he didn’t know he’d be able to play.

“I didn't know what time it was. I didn't know what was going on,” Scheffler said. “When I was sitting in like the holding cell, there was a TV there, and I could see myself on the TV on ESPN.”

If Scheffler wasn’t all that interesting as the world’s No. 1 golfer, that’s no longer the case .

In rainy conditions and with huge crowds roaring their support, Scheffler showed up with a jailhouse sandwich in his stomach and shot a 5-under-par 66 during  Friday’s second round at the 2024 PGA Championship,  bringing him to 9 under for the tournament. — Gentry Estes , Nashville Tennessean

Tiger Woods on the verge of missing cut

Tigers Woods is almost out of time. The four-time PGA Championship winner currently sits at 8-over for the tournament through 14 holes after picking up back-to-back bogeys on No. 11 and No. 12. The cut currently is projected at 1-under , meaning Woods is 10 strokes away from making it into the weekend. Woods has made 18 of the last 22 cuts at the PGA Championship, according to the ESPN broadcast.

Woods won the the 2000 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky.

Tiger Woods hits another bogey

Disaster struck on No. 11 for Woods after he posted back-to-back birdies on No. 7 and 8, appearing to pick up some momentum heading into the back nine of the second round, but his short game got in the way again. Woods three-putted on No. 11 to finish with a bogey, his second of the day. He also had two triple bogeys in the second round. He’s back to 7-over for the tournament and in danger of missing the cut (1-under).

Xander Schauffele back in the lead

American Xander Schauffele is atop the leaderboard. He sits at 12-under through 11 holes, leading fellow American Collin Morikawa by one stroke and American Scottie Scheffler by three strokes.

Schauffele has posted four birdies in the second round to get him in sole possession of the lead, but a bogey on No. 11 cut into his cushion. Schauffele is vying for his first major title. His best showing at the PGA Championship was a 10th-place finish in 2020.

Watch: Tiger Woods almost hit a hole in one

Woods nearly aced No. 8. He drove a ball nearly 170 yards on the 173-yard, Par-3 hole and tapped in a putt to post a birdie. It marks Woods second consecutive birdie after getting off to a rough start in the second round and posting two triple bogeys. He’s back to 6-over for the tournament. The projected cut is at 1-under.

Earlier in the day, Swedish golfer Sebastian Soderberg aced the same hole, the first of the week.

Tiger Woods saves par on No. 5

Driving hasn’t been a problem with Woods so far. Hole No. 5 (Par-4, 468 yards) was no different. He drove a ball down the middle of the fairway at 171 mph. It’s the short game that has been missing so far in the second round. Woods barely missed the green his next stroke and chipped the ball near the flag stick to set up a par putt that he sunk.

To make matters worse, the projected cut line has moved to 1-under for the tournament , meaning Woods has even more ground to cover. He’s 8-over through five holes.

Tiger Woods' struggles continues with another triple bogey

Things looked brighter after Woods found the middle of the fairway with his first stroke on Par-4, No. 4, but he missed the green on his next shot after the ball hit a lump in the green and rolled off completely. His next shot ended up in the bunker and he wasn’t able to clear it with his next stroke, ending back up in the bunker. Woods chipped the ball onto the green on his fifth stroke and two-putted it in for a triple bogey, his second of the day. He sits at 8-over par on the tournament.

Tiger Woods posts a triple bogey

Tiger Woods’ second-round at the Valhalla Golf Club is not off to a good start. After shooting a par-4 on the opening hole, Woods recorded a triple bogey and a bogey on hole No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. Woods started the second round 1-over and now moves to 5-over for the tournament. He has some major ground to make up in order to make the cut, which is projected at 1-under.

Collin Morikawa increases lead, Tiger begins second round

Collin Morikawa (-12) birdied five of his last six holes and is three shots ahead of Thomas Detry, Mark Hubbard and Xander Schauffele.

Tiger Woods has teed off and begins his round tied for 84th place at 1-over. He has some work to do as the projected cut line is even par.

Collin Morikawa surges into lead

Collin Morikawa made his third straight birdie at No. 6 and now owns the outright lead at 10-under. Scottie Scheffler is two shots back with birdies on No. 2 and 4 on the back nine.

PGA releases statement, man killed identified

"Our primary concern today remains with the family of John Mills, who lost his life in a tragic accident early this morning while reporting to work," the PGA of America said in a statement. "As it relates to the incident involving Scottie Scheffler, we are fully cooperating as local authorities review what took place. While the legal process plays out, questions should to be directed to Scheffler's attorney or local authorities."

Mark Hubbard, Collin Morikawa now tied for lead

Hubbard, who is looking for his first major title, nailed a birdie on 18 and is tied for the lead with Xander Schauffele at 9-under. Heading to the back nine, Hubbard finished 3-under on the front. Morikawa has birdied No. 4 and 5 on his back nine to grab a share of the lead also.

Rising scores despite heavy rain

Despite a steady rain that has been falling all morning at Valhalla, scores keep rising.

Xander Schauffele (-9) will tee off later, but Mark Hubbard is one shot back. Collin Morikawa, Austin Eckroat, and Thomas Detry are all crammed in at 7-under. Scottie Scheffler started his back nine with a par on hole No. 1, and he is sitting at -6 under for the tournament.

Mark Hubbard, Jason Day making noise on Day 2

Hubbard has birdied two of his first four holes starting his second round, and Jason Day finished his front nine with three birdies to get him to 3-under. Alex Noren also has three birdies on his first nine holes and finds himself three shots from the lead.

Xander Schauffele's lead shrinking early in second round

Golfers starting their second round in the morning are inching closer to the lead. Mark Hubbard is now two shots after his birdie on No. 10, with Thomas Detry and Collin Morikawa each adding a birdie to their respective scorecards to get to 6-under. Harris English has three birdies on the front nine to get him to 5-under.

Leader Xander Schauffele (-9) is scheduled to tee off at 2:38 p.m. ET.

Scottie Scheffler gets another birdie

Scheffler started the day with a birdie at No. 10, then bogeyed No. 11. He got right back on track on No. 12 to get another birdie and is now back to 5-under, four shots from the lead.

First ace of the tournament

Sebastian Söderberg made a hole-in-one on the Par 3 No. 8 for the first ace of the PGA Championship. That shot brought to even par for the tournament and 2-under for the day.

Louisville police release incident report on Scheffler arrest

Louisville authorities released their version of events that led to Scottie Scheffler being arrested on Friday morning. According to the arrest complaint, an officer was directing traffic due to an accident involving a fatality when Scheffler "tried to gain access to the course."

The officer, dressed in a reflective rain jacket, stopped Scheffler and attempted to give him instructions, but the subject "refused to comply and accelerated forward," dragging the officer to the ground, damaging his $80 uniform pants "beyond repair." The officer, who was identified as Detective Bryan Gillis, was taken to the hospital for further treatment and "suffered pain, swelling to abrasions to his left wrist and knee."

Scheffler birdies first hole of the day

If Scottie Scheffler was distracted by this morning's events, it didn't show it on the Par 5 No. 10. After hitting the rough on his first shot, Scheffler steadied himself and made a birdie to start his round. He is currently 5-under for the tournament.

Scottie Scheffler begins Round 2 at PGA Championship

Scottie Scheffler now switches his mind to golf.

The World No. 1 golfer has teed off at Valhalla, reaching the rough on hole No. 10. Scheffler shot a 4-under par in the first round, good for a tie for 11th place.

Scottie Scheffler makes statement about Friday's arrest

ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, who witnessed Scottie Scheffler's morning arrest and recorded it on social media, shared a statement he received from Scheffler :

"This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers. It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do. I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I’m hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today. Of course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man who passed away in the earlier accident this morning. It truly puts everything in perspective."

PGA of America statement

The PGA of America released a statement about Friday morning's events:

"This morning we were devastated to learn that a worker with one of our vendors was tragically struck and killed by a shuttle bus outside Valhalla Golf Club. This is heartbreaking to all of us involved with the PGA Championship. We extend our sincere condolences to their family and loved ones."

Scottie Scheffler's lawyer addresses golfer's arrest

Steve Romines, a lawyer representing Scottie Scheffler after his Friday morning arrest, spoke to the media moments after Scheffler left Louisville Metro Police Department.

"He was going into Valhalla to work out and get ready for his tee time. (Police) were directing traffic, he held his media credential out and was going in like they've been instructed to. Apparently there had been a traffic accident, or maybe even a fatality down the road, and that had changed the traffic patterns, and he was unaware of that. And, I think the officer that was directing traffic, was maybe not part of the event traffic detail and so that's where the communication, miscommunication arose and that's why we're here."

When asked what happens next, Romines said it had not yet been decided whether he would play golf Friday and "we'll just deal with the court system as it comes."

Is Scottie Scheffler golfing at PGA Championship on Friday?

Scottie Scheffler is inside the clubhouse at Valhalla Golf Club, and it appears he will be able to make his 10:08 a.m. ET tee time.

There was some question whether Scheffler would make it back to Valhalla after being detained and charged with second degree assault on a police officer, which is a felony, as well as criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic.

USGA Rule 5.3 states the committee can decide that exceptional circumstances prevented a golfer from starting on time. Under this provision there is no breach of rule and no penalty. It does not appear that it will be applicable in Scheffler's case since he has arrived at the course just less than an hour before his tee time.

Scottie Scheffler arrives for PGA Championship

Scottie Scheffler was dropped off at the clubhouse at Valhalla just after 9:10 a.m. ET.

As Scheffler exited his vehicle he was asked by ESPN reporter Marty Smith if he had any comment about this morning's incident.

"I love you, Marty," Scheffler said, with a smile.
