Hi. So I'll be in LA on 5/27/16 from Melbourne,Australia and would like to take a east bound group tour. So heres the thing..I've found that the age bracketing is fairly rigid with most companies,however I'd like to enjoy both young and older travelers company on my tour. Can anyone help me with an American tour company that does fun tours that shows you a good time??

Group tours in the US tend to attract older folks or folks who are unsure about traveling on their own because of language issues. So while no company I know of prohibits younger people, they're not generally found on the mixed tours. Young people who want to do group travel in the US don't necessarily want to hang out with older folks -- they want to be with a hang-loose group of people with similar interests. It's also possible tour companies which organize youth tours don't want to attract older guys who might want to hit on younger girls, so they restrict the ages.

I've given you a couple of tours on your other thread, but I wouldn't expect too many young people on those tours. You can always ask the companies the average age of their travelers.

My husband and I are independent travelers for the most part (flashpackers) but we have friends who like to do small group tours all over the world. I would never go on the big motorcoach ones with 60+ people but a small group tour is something we would consider if we could not manage it independenly.

I know you want west to east. But maybe you can start east first and stay a few days on your own in NYC. Going home from the west coast to OZ would be easier too.

For example, you can take a tour from LA to see some stuff in CA and Vegas and some other Southwest US stops. Then fly to New York or elsewhere in the Northeast and take another tour.

We are in the California level but can direct you. Perhaps ask at the Road Trio forum as well.

Tours are outmoded, because for example the price of a flight from San Francisco to Las Vegas is $67 USD today and you get there in 1.5 hours plus airport time. You drive and it costs just as much plus your cost of lodging and meals. So 3-4x as much to drive. “Thank you for the opportunity to provide you with a broad market overview and a review of the financial performance of GEG in Q1 2024. During Q1 2024, we made substantial adjustments to Galaxy Macau TM ’s gaming floor, in the shorter term this was disruptive for the month of January and the early part of February. The renovation was completed just prior to Chinese New Year . With the completion of this renovation, we have seen a significant improvement in the flow of customer traffic across the entire floor.

Across our portfolio, we are in the process of implementing smart tables which will drive further efficiency across the gaming floor. Additionally, we are updating our slot machine products and we are working on a range of upgrades to StarWorld Macau.  

Moving onto our financial performance, the Group Net Revenue in Q1 2024 was $10.6 billion , up 50% year-on-year and up 2% quarter-on-quarter; Adjusted EBITDA was $2.8 billion , up 49% year-on-year and up 1% quarter-on-quarter . We were particularly encouraged with our casino performance over the May Golden Week and post the reconfiguration of Galaxy Macau TM ’s gaming floor.

Our balance sheet remained healthy and liquid. As of Q1 2024, cash and liquid investments were $26.4 billion and the net position was $25.0 billion after debt of $1.4 billion . We recently paid the previously announced special dividend of $0.30 per share on 26 April 2024 .

We were pleased to announce the addition of the Group’s tenth hotel brand – Capella Hotels and Resorts . The 17-storey Capella at Galaxy Macau is expected to open in mid-2025 and offers approximately 100 ultra-luxury sky villas and suites. This represents our continued commitment to delivering unparalleled experiential luxury to our guests in Macau and supporting the Government’s vision to develop Macau into the World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.

Macau Market Overview

Based on DICJ reporting, Macau’s GGR for Q1 2024 was $55.7 billion , up 65% year-on-year and up 6% quarter-on-quarter. In Q1 2024, visitor arrivals to Macau were 8.9 million, up 79% year-on-year, recovering to 86% in the same quarter of 2019. Overnight visitors were 4.1 million, up 55% year-on-year. Mainland visitor arrivals were 6.3 million, up 94% year-on-year. 55% of the Mainland visitors were from the IVS. The Central Government continues to strongly support Macau this is evidenced by the recent expansion of the existing IVS to include an additional 10 cities. This brings the total number of Chinese cities under the IVS to 59 cities, with a combined total population of over 490 million.

Further, The National Immigration Administration of China introduced new measures for Mainlanders including residents from 20 large cities to be able to update or reissue their travel documents entirely online, Mainlanders who participate in exhibitions or art performances can apply “other” visa type for multiple-entry visits to Macau for one year, and multi-entry tour visas within 7 days for Mainlanders who participated in Hengqin- Macau group tours. These new measures were effective from 6 May 2024 .

In Q1 2024, the Group posted Net Revenue of $10.6 billion , up 50% year-on-year and up 2% quarter-on-quarter. Group Adjusted EBITDA was $2.8 billion , up 49% year-on-year and up 1% quarter-on-quarter. Galaxy Macau™ is the primary contributor to Group revenue and earnings. In Q1 2024, Galaxy Macau™’s Net Revenue was $8.3 billion , up 55% year-on-year and up 2% quarter-on-quarter. Adjusted EBITDA was $2.6 billion , up 42% year-on-year and up 2% quarter-on-quarter. Adjusted EBITDA margin was 31% (Q1 2023: 35%).

Galaxy Macau™ played lucky in its gaming operations which increased its Adjusted EBITDA by approximately $48 million . Normalized Q1 2024 Adjusted EBITDA was $2.6 billion , up 44% year-on-year and down 4% quarter-on-quarter.

The combined seven hotels occupancy was 97% for Q1 2024.

StarWorld Macau

In Q1 2024, StarWorld Macau’s Net Revenue was $1.4 billion , up 46% year-on-year and up 9% quarter-on-quarter. Adjusted EBITDA was $435 million , up 101% year-on-year and up 23% quarter-on-quarter. Adjusted EBITDA margin was 32% (Q1 2023: 23%).

StarWorld Macau played lucky in its gaming operations which increased its Adjusted EBITDA by approximately $15 million . Normalized Q1 2024 Adjusted EBITDA was $420 million , up 94% year-on-year and up 20% quarter-on-quarter.

Hotel occupancy was 100% for Q1 2024.

Broadway Macau™

Broadway Macau™ is a unique family friendly, street entertainment and food resort supported by Macau SMEs. In Q1 2024, Broadway Macau™’s Net Revenue was $46 million , up 156% year-on-year, up 21% quarter-on-quarter this follows the reopening of Broadway Hotel . Adjusted EBITDA was $4 million , versus $(10) million in Q1 2023 and $(2) million in Q4 2023.

In Q1 2024, City Clubs’ Net Revenue was $58 million , up 12% year-on-year and up 2% quarter-on-quarter. Adjusted EBITDA was $4 million , up 33% year-on-year and up 33% quarter-on-quarter.

Construction Materials Division (“CMD”)

In Q1 2024, CMD was seasonally impacted by Chinese New Year , where many construction workers travel to their home province resulting in the seasonal shutdown of construction sites. For the quarter, CMD delivered Adjusted EBITDA of $110 million , up 9% year-on-year and down 46% quarter-on-quarter.

Galaxy Macau™ and StarWorld Macau

We continue to make ongoing progressive enhancements to our resorts to ensure that they remain competitive and appealing to our guests with a particular focus on adding new and innovative F&B and retail offerings.

At StarWorld Macau we are evaluating a range of major upgrades, that includes the main gaming floor, the lobby arrival experience and increasing the F&B options.

Cotai – The Next Chapter

We are pleased to announce the opening of Capella at Galaxy Macau in mid-2025. The 17-storey hotel offers approximately 100 ultra-luxury sky villas and suites. Each Sky Villa features a light-filled balcony with a transparent infinity-edge pool, outdoor lounge, sunroom and hidden winter garden, among others. Capella at Galaxy Macau promises to bring a new level of elegant luxury to Macau .

We were ramping up GICC, Galaxy Arena , Raffles at Galaxy Macau and Andaz Macau. We are now firmly focused on the development of Phase 4, which is already well under way. Phase 4 will include multiple high-end hotel brands new to Macau , together with a 4000-seat theater, extensive F&B, retail, non-gaming amenities, landscaping, a water resort deck and a casino. Phase 4 is approximately 600,000 square meters of development and is scheduled to complete in 2027. We will continue to adjust the development timeline in accordance with the market demand. We remain highly confident about the future of Macau where Phases 3 & 4 will support Macau’s vision of becoming a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.

During 2024 Macau has continued to experience an ongoing recovery with both growth in visitor numbers and associated revenues. The recovery has been predominately led by the premium segment. We still see pent up demand from Mainland, particularity for tourism, leisure and travel and Macau remains one of the top choices for travel destinations by Mainland Chinese.

The Central Government continues to strongly support Macau this is evidenced by the recent expansion of the existing IVS to include an additional 10 cities. This brings the total number of Chinese cities under the IVS to 59 cities, with a combined total population of over 490 million.

Infrastructure to both access Macau and to move throughout Macau continues to improve. In February the Jinhai Avenue Bridge and Zhuhai Urban-Airport Intercity Railway Phase 2 were officially opened. This is a new bridge that directly connect the Zhuhai airport to Hengqin Island and allows cars and trains to travel from the Zhuhai airport to Hengqin in about 15 minutes.

The Zhuhai airport connects to 50 plus cities in China and will have a capacity of 27.5 million passengers when terminal 2 is completed this year. In comparison, the Macau airport connects to 48 cities in China and has a capacity of 10 million passengers. Within Macau the fourth cross-harbor bridge is expected to open later this year and connects the peninsula to Cotai which will allow easier travel within Macau .

The Macau Government through its tourism authority in combination with the six concessionaires continues to actively promote Macau both within Mainland China and Asia . To support these initiatives GEG has opened overseas business development offices in Tokyo and Seoul and is soon to open an office in Bangkok . This is in-line with our commitment to the Government to further increase the number and flow of high value international visitors to Macau .

We continue to ramp up the newly opened Phase 3 development with a particular focus on events and entertainment shows. The development of Phase 4 continues and will greatly expand our capacity within Macau . O n Friday, December 15, the NANA TOUR with SEVENTEEN was officially announced on Weverse, exciting fans with its several intriguing factors. The show is expected to be an entertainment program done in collaboration with SEVENTEEN and the variety show host, Na Young-suk PD, where they'll be traveling around Italy.

Adopting the concept of a previously famous travel variety show, Youth Over Flowers , where Korean celebrities are taken for a surprise vacation by the show's production team without prior notice, NANA TOUR with SEVENTEEN were immediately flown to Italy after the end of their Japan Tour in September by Na Young-suk PD, who was their guide for the vacation. Given that the members themselves have been showcasing their excitement for its release, fans have been eagerly looking forward to the same.

Everything you need to know about NANA TOUR with SEVENTEEN, the group's upcoming travel reality show with Na Young-suk PD

Back in May, during SEVENTEEN's appearance on Na Young-suk PD's variety show, The Game Caterers , the members, who were divided into three groups, were made to write down two wishes per group and drop into a bowl of 54 empty chits. However, despite the low chances, SEVENTEEN won their much-expected wish, which was to shoot a remaking of Youth Over Flowers with Na Young-suk PD.

While many anticipated the show to never actually fall out given the busy schedules of both SEVENTEEN and Na Young-suk, when members spotted them at the airport boarding towards Italy, looking completely unprepared, fans realized that it was finally happening. On December 15, an official announcement was made through Weverse that the show will be officially airing on the Korean broadcasting platform, tVN, from Jan 5, 2024.

The Democratic Republic of Congo's (DRC) armed forces repelled an attempted coup d'etat involving Congolese and foreign fighters on Sunday morning, a DRC army spokesperson said in a televised address.

A year after its Tony boost, Pasadena Playhouse unveils 2024-25 season

It’s been a huge year for Pasadena Playhouse , and Artistic Director Danny Feldman is feeling nervous. The theater will unveil its 2024-25 season lineup on Wednesday and Feldman wants it to be one that all audiences can get excited about. Will “Cyrano de Bergerac,” “La Cage aux Folles” and “Topdog/Underdog” do the trick?

The announcement, after all, comes with added pressure. It’s been almost a year since the theater took home the Regional Theatre Tony Award , becoming only the second Los Angeles organization to earn the honor — and since then the theater has taken flight.

“Three out of five of our top-selling plays have happened in the past eight months and 49% of ticket buyers this season are brand new to us,” says Feldman. “This year, we’ve brought in significantly younger and more diverse audiences. For example, more than 50% of the audience for Kate Berlant’s ‘Kate’ was under the age of 44.”

Keeping that momentum up and sharing the love with other institutions around town is Feldman’s primary goal moving forward. Plus, the theater’s historic home on El Molino Avenue turns 100 years old this season, and added celebration is in order.

The theater’s centennial plays nicely into the choice of Martin Crimp’s radical, “freely adapted” version of Edmond Rostand’s enduring classic “Cyrano de Bergerac,” says Feldman. A bit of research revealed that the play was the very last production staged by the theater in March 1925 before it moved to its current home, which officially opened on May 18 that same year.

“I didn’t know that when I was planning, but as I learned that, I thought it was beautiful and poetic,” says Feldman. “And ‘Cyrano’ is just one of the greatest plays ever written. It’s about poetry and life and art, and it’s a romance. It’s just one of my favorite plays.”

In Crimp’s reimagining, Cyrano’s big nose is all in his head — a fitting metaphor, notes Feldman, for the way human beings carry around their own obstacles.

Feldman says bringing together top theater makers to connect with well-known material and breathe new life into it for contemporary audiences is one of Pasadena Playhouse’s “sweet spots.” He notes that he hopes to accomplish with “Cyrano” what the theater did last season with “Inherit the Wind.”

Next up — and notably opening the week after the 2024 presidential election — is “La Cage aux Folles,” the riotous musical celebration of drag with a book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman. Feldman says he doesn’t want to get political, but programming during elections — particularly one as contentious as this year’s is likely to be — is notoriously difficult. It’s hard to get people’s attention, he says.

“I just felt like I wanted something that was joyful and at its core was about bringing people together,” Feldman says, adding that “La Cage aux Folles” — an uproarious romp through the world of a bawdy drag club in St. Tropez — checks those boxes in spades.

Feldman says musicals have emerged as one of Pasadena’s Playhouse most beloved traditions, beginning with “Ragtime” in 2019 and continuing with “Little Shop of Horrors,” the recent (triumphant) Sondheim celebration and the upcoming “Jelly’s Last Jam.”

A decade ago many regional theaters programmed classic American musicals, but Feldman speculates that Pasadena Playhouse may be among the few remaining regional theaters that still does so. The cost of mounting fully original productions (soup to nuts) on the level and scale that the Playhouse does is cost prohibitive. Even if the company sold every single ticket to a given musical, it still wouldn’t be enough to cover the enormous cost, Feldman says. But patrons adore the productions — just seeing these beloved shows in a relatively intimate, 640-seat theater — so fundraising and member-ticket sales are used to make up the difference.

“Los Angeles audiences do not get to see the shows done at the level we do them,” Feldman says. “It’s such a rare treat.”

The season also includes a foray outside the theater, when Pasadena Playhouse invites patrons to the Pasadena Civic Auditorium for back-to-back weekends of Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes” and Sondheim’s “Follies” in concert.

“It’s not a fully staged production, but it’s a grand concert that is really designed to showcase some of the greatest shows written for the American musical,” explains Feldman, adding that while audiences are away from the theater, the building will be used to host the Next Stage Immersive Summit 2025 in partnership with the Immersive Experience Institute — the largest gathering of its kind in the world.

Spring will see a production of Suzan-Lori Parks’ Pulitzer- and Tony-winning play “Topdog/Underdog,” about two brothers struggling to find their place in a chaotic world.

“It’s an edge-of-your-seat, electrifying experience — a fable of two brothers, but it’s much more than that,” says Feldman. “I’ve been waiting to do this play for a while, and I believe it belongs in the classic iconic American canon.”

A yet-to-be-announced play will round out the season.

Feldman says this is a pivotal and difficult — yet still exhilarating — time for theater in L.A. when many smaller organizations need a boost to regain ground after the pandemic and the city’s bigger theaters are experiencing massive regime change with incoming artistic directors that include Snehal Desai at Center Theatre Group, Tarell Alvin McCraney at Geffen Playhouse and Lily Tung Crystal at East West Players.

“It’s new blood and new energy. It’s thrilling. I feel very happy to be in that company,” says Feldman. “We’re all firing on all cylinders so it’s just an exciting time for arts lovers in L.A.”
