The 1975 announced this week that the band will go on an “indefinite hiatus” from performing after the end of its ongoing tour, which ends in the spring.

The band made the announcement during Tuesday’s performance in Sacramento at the Golden 1 Center, the first stop of its Still ... At Their Very Best tour.

“It’s wonderful you’re all here,” the band’s frontman, Matty Healy , told the crowd on Tuesday evening, according to video of the performance . “After this tour, we will be going on an indefinite hiatus with shows, so it’s wonderful to have you guys with us tonight. Thank you so much.”

Representatives for the 1975 did not immediately respond to The Times’ request for comment.

The 1975 set cut short in Malaysia after Matty Healy criticizes country’s LGBTQ+ laws

The 1975 had their set at a Malaysian music festival cut short after lead singer Matty Healy called out the country’s government for its LGBTQ+ laws.

July 21, 2023

The 1975’s tour includes shows across North America and Europe, including a sold-out show at the Hollywood Bowl in October plus a Pechanga Arena gig in San Diego this coming Saturday. The tour’s final show is scheduled for March 24 in Amsterdam.

The British pop rock band, which formed in 2002, has been performing almost nonstop for the past several years, whether at festivals or on the road for their buzzy At Their Very Best tour, which ran from November 2022 until August. Their performances became viral as Healy regularly kissed doting fans on the lips after serenading them throughout the tour.

Most famously, at a music festival in Malaysia in July, the 1975’s bassist, Ross MacDonald, kissed Healy on the lips after the vocalist blasted the Malaysian government’s anti-LGBTQ+ laws, such as criminalizing same-sex relations. The crowd cheered on the speech and the kiss, but the set was subsequently cut short by organizers as government officials halted the music festival . The 1975 is now banned from playing in the country.

Taylor Swift and Matty Healy reportedly split after reportedly dating

Pop superstar Taylor Swift and the 1975 frontman Matty Healy have reportedly called it quits less than two months after they reportedly started dating.

June 5, 2023

However, Healy ultimately stole the spotlight throughout tour due to a highly publicized yet ultimately unconfirmed romantic relationship with Taylor Swift, which reportedly came to an end in June .

Swift and Healy sparked romance rumors shortly after the “Lavender Haze” hitmaker broke up with her actor boyfriend of six years , Joe Alwyn. Though neither musician publicly confirmed their relationship, Healy attended multiple Swift shows during her sold-out Eras tour — even joining opening act Phoebe Bridgers onstage in Nashville.

Healy also made headlines for a controversial podcast interview in which he and comedians Nick Mullen and Adam Friedland mocked rapper Ice Spice’s ethnicity. Healy also egged on jokes about Japanese incarceration during World War II and joked about his own sexual behavior related to a porn website that prominently features Black women.

Taylor Swift, Ice Spice collaboration faces backlash over Matty Healy controversy

Controversy around Matty Healy eclipses celebrations of the star-powered ‘Midnights (Deluxe)’ collaboration between Taylor Swift and Ice Spice.

May 24, 2023

In April, Healy apologized to Ice Spice during the band’s performance in Auckland, New Zealand, saying his apology was “not because I’m annoyed that me joking got misconstrued. It’s because I don’t want Ice Spice to think I’m a d—. I love you, Ice Spice. I’m so sorry.”

Times reporters Christi Carras, Carlos De Loera and Astrid Kayembe contributed to this report.

The 1975 announce 39-date North American tour

The massive still...at their very best tour features shows across the u.s. and canada, beginning in september of this year..

1975 last tour

The 1975 have announced a behemoth run of shows in the U.S. and Canada slated for this fall. The band's Still...at their very best tour kicks off on September 26 at Sacramento's Golden 1 Center, and will wrap up almost three whole months later at Seattle's Climate Pledge Arena. In celebration, they've also released Episode 4 of their absurdist video series "A Theatrical Performance Of An Intimate Moment."

Still...at their very best is a continuation of the 1975's ongoing At Their Very Best tour, which has been marked by near-constant online discourse, mostly thanks to the antics of frontman Matty Healy. These include eating raw meat on stage, making out with fans, cameramen, and security guards, and — oh, yeah — dating Taylor Swift . These new shows promise an expanded production, but what that means is still anyone's guess.

The 1975 Are Still at Their Very Best for New North American Tour Dates

By Brittany Spanos

Brittany Spanos

The 1975 are returning to the States this fall for a second run of North American tour dates. The UK band’s Still…At Their Very Best trek will kick off in California this September.

The 1975’s latest run supports their 2022 album Being Funny in a Foreign Language, released in October. The group played a run of arena shows in North America last fall and have been performing worldwide all year. They are currently headlining festivals across the UK and Europe this summer.

The band released a new episode of their web series, A Theatrical Performance of an Intimate Moment, to announce the tour. The eight-minute video sees singer Matty Healy going through a morning routine before heading to work at a lab and experimenting on a patch of greenery.

The 1975

Frontmen should be fun. Obnoxious, pretentious, eccentric… yes, all good words when it comes to the face of your favorite rock band. So when singer Matty Healy introduces the 1975 as “the greatest band on the planet,” or gnaws on a slab of raw meat or mimics masturbation more than once in one concert, at least he’s giving you something to talk about.

Related Stories

Tony ratings have a long gap to clear, despite efforts to mimic larger shows, judge rejects alec baldwin's move to drop case due to damaged gun, popular on variety.

The retro flair of “Looking for Somebody (To Love)” and disco bliss of “Happiness” kicked the concert off with a punch, but it’s the new album’s slower moments that work best live. “When We Are Together,” an acoustic ballad that dubs Central Park “SeaWorld for trees,” was perfectly loose, and shoegazy slow-burner “About You” sounded monumental, spotlighting backup singer Polly Money and saxophonist John Waugh.

It’s worth noting that on this tour, Healy’s voice sounds stronger than ever. Meanwhile, bassist Ross MacDonald, drummer George Daniel and guitarist Adam Hann are steady and often stoic, serving as needed foils to the unpredictable frontman, who slinks around the stage, huffing on cigarettes and taking swigs from a flask.

Midway through the show, the band exited the stage as Healy sat down on the couch, put on an oxygen mask and rubbed his crotch. The singer then fell to his knees in front of one of the television sets, which broadcast shots of Ben Shapiro, Mark Zuckerberg, Kamala Harris, Bored Ape NFTs, Liz Truss, Vladimir Putin and Logan Paul. It got weirder, as Healy began chewing on a raw meat shank and doing push-ups until, finally, he climbed into the TV and disappeared.

Whether the interlude was pure nonsense or an avant-garde presentation of toxic masculinity seems irrelevant to even Healy himself, who went on to apologize for the “black pill performance art” and acknowledge that the show might be a “hard sell” to those who aren’t already big fans of the 1975.

Nonetheless, the band returned to the stage moments later in black suits and launched into an explosive “If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know),” kicking off a second act full of the 1975’s greatest hits. There was “It’s Not Living (If It’s Not With You),” “Sex” and “Give Yourself a Try,” but, notably, no “Chocolate.” During “The Sound,” Healy enthusiastically commanded the Garden to “fucking jump,” and a huge percentage of the arena’s 20,000 audience members happily obliged.

The show was so tightly choreographed that even Healy’s usual between-song banter was limited, bar apologizing for “touching my dick” to fans who came with their parents, and proclaiming, “If I was Kanye, I wouldn’t have said any of that stuff.”

The disgraced rapper was evoked elsewhere in the show, too. His name was dropped in a “Love It If We Made It” lyric that references a Donald Trump tweet. His signature autotuned ranting style was emulated in a particularly charged version of “I Like America & America Likes Me,” which Healy delivered like a sermon, at least 30 feet above the crowd. And the dangerous effect of the rapper’s recent comments was displayed on the TVs, which showed footage of the neo-Nazis who hung antisemitic banners over L.A.’s 405 freeway last month.

But despite the vague political messaging and elaborate staging, the most exhilarating part of the show was the songs. Healy and Co. are no strangers to stunts, theatrics and moments designed for Twitter virality, but if there’s one thing the 1975 won’t let you forget, it’s that they’re one hell of a live band.

I saw them play at the Starlite Room in Edmonton which is a small, slightly sketchy venue downtown that I personally love. It holds about 300 people probably. My best friend and I got there to wait outside in line about 7 hours before doors opened to guarantee that we got close to the stage, which we did. But the whole time we were waiting, all of the band members were walking in and out of the front doors, or they would linger around the venue. At one point I ran to the Tim Hortons down the street to grab something to eat, and I was behind George.. Like it was insane.

But anyways , the show.

My friends and I were in the front left of the stage. And at Starlite, they have no barriers so you're pressed right up against the stage. Sirsly came on first, which I hadn't heard of them before the show. They did an incredible job opening the show. Next was Bad Suns, which I left the show being a huge fan of them. They have the perfect young alternative rock feel. They did a wonderful job connecting to the crowd and their whole set just flew by. I was lucky enough to meet them after the show to chat with and they were such lovely guys. And next was the 1975. The word to describe how great of a show these guys put on is something beyond my vocabulary. They are edgy, raunchy, loud and extreme. I have always fancied the lead singer Matt Healy, and he knows just how to work the crowd. He loves to tease, chat and just flaunt himself at everyone. There was no equipment set up in front of my friends and I, so we had lots of opportunities where the band members would come right up to us. A moment that was a highlight for me was during Talk! Matty knelt down grabbed my hand and sang the line, "I've been thinking lots about your mouth.' It was a big deal for me. HAHAHA. But I could honestly write for hours about these guys. Their connection with everyone was undeniable. I'd say my favourite song to see like was probably "Sex". Its the last song they performed and Matty introduced it saying, "this song is about fucking each other." But its incredible to see live where everyone knows all the words and just goes insane, including the band.

Then after the show, the band came out and met every single person who waited. It was magical. Matt was the first to come out and because of how calm he was, the crowd literally waited in close to silence. No screaming or fan-girling. It was sweet to see him take his time with every single fan. He gave everyone hugs and listened to everything they had to say. I explained to him how much the bands music meant to me personally and he gave me three hugs and seemed so gracious to hear everything I had to say. Honestly, he is an angel. I didn't have the chance to meet the members sadly but next time i guess.

Anyways, never pass up an opportunity to see these guys... ever. Its been almost 2 1/2 months and the post concert depression is stronger than ever.

My first concert. My favourite band.

Belsonic music festival is an intimate venue so I was in touching distance of the foursome. As the intro played in, the crowd erupted as we caught the first sight of Ross (bass guitar), followed by George (drums), Matty (vocals) and finally Adam (rhythm guitar). The boys filed on to 'Love Me' and got the party started. Favourites from both albums followed such as 'A Change of Heart' and 'Menswear'.

As the sky began to darken Matty decided it was time to address the audience, cigarette in hand. Stating he loved Belfast and reminiscing about the time they first played Belfast to only 25 people, I could hear loyal fans shouting, "we were there! We were there!" Matty continued to talk about the world and how a 'revolution' was imminent, saying that it looked a lot more "emo these days". I tried to capture his little speech on my phone like many others, when Matty told us all to put our phones down for one minute, telling us we would "enjoy the next ten minutes much more than if it was on our iPhone." The sea of people dropped their devices (me included) and swayed to the transcendent sound of 'Me'.

The second half of the show was truly electric with a rainbow flashing on stage to 'Loving Someone' as two shared a kiss to my left. Then came the ever a party starter 'Girls' and 'She's American'. The true spectacle of the night was 'Sex' however, a light show in its own right, and a religious experience.

Finishing their set the crowd chanted, "one more song! One more song!" The guys obliged and then some, coming back out to play three scintillating tracks: the hymn - like 'If I Believe You', the classic 'Chocolate' and banging 'The Sound'.

The 1975 are a band that not only perform with such energy track after track, but put on an impressive light show and with a prophetic front man foretelling the future, I would recommend anyone witness their excellence for themselves.

Well lets just say this: They rocked it but it didn't start out that way.

First let me say that I am 51 and have been going to live shows, big and small, for 35 years. So, I saw Depeche Mode way back in the day and this show felt very much like what I saw back in the 80's. For you younger ones, and The1975 fans, you will really enjoy it but for the first half of the show, I felt like I was watching Depeche.

The "show" and set are really cool. I have never seen any light show like that before but the problem was that the entire band basically stayed in place and left the "entertaining" part to the lead singer. I have no problem with that but I felt sorry for him as this was their first time in Red Rocks and for those of you who don't know, while it is an amazing venue, it is pretty hight in altitude and every band that comes through complains about not being able to breath. You could see that it was a struggle but he was still awesome and pulled it off.

The sound was great! The band was very tight and way better than what I saw on SNL. I am not a huge fan of their new stuff because I became a huge fan back in 2014 when I saw them at a small club in San Diego. But the new stuff was still good and it made the end great because they finally got to the rocking out.

The opening acts, The Japanese House and Wolf Alice were really good opening act and Wolf Alice now has a new fan in me.

To sum it up, they did a good job headlining and it was totally worth the time and money but unless you are a The1975 fan, you may feel wanting during the first half. Make sure you stay for the end!

The 1975 was amazing live. I've been to several concerts and I can easily say that this concert was one of the best ones I've ever been to. I love their music. I think they're a very unique and talented band, and it amazes me how the different instruments and sounds blend together perfectly to create a beautiful song telling a beautiful story.

Matty Healy was the one who mainly talked to us, and the things he did on stage were incredible. There were beautiful moments such as during a song called "Me", he asked everyone to put their phones away and just enjoy the music, and then during the second half of the song, he asked everyone to turn the flashlight on on their phone, and wave it in the air to the song. It was such a beautiful sight.

At some point in the concert, he kindly asked everyone to take a step back because the people in front were getting squashed. He also went backstage for a while to get water for the people in the audience who were dying of thirst. He also said some funny things such as "the weather does horrible things to my hair". I just think that Matty is such a genuine, kind and great man.

Apart from Matty's great character, the music was really good, and all 4 band members put on an amazing show. There were more upbeat tracks such as "Girls" and "Sex" which got everyone pumped and dancing, interchanged with groovy instrumentals and slow, sad songs such as "Fallingforyou" and "Me" which touched the audience. Great music, great band, and great live.

The 1975 is one band you definitely should catch live.

This concert was certainly a shock.

I had seen the 1975 about a year ago at Ally Pally and although that was a good concert, I didn't enjoy it as much as I thought I would and that meant that I didn't have high hopes to see them again this time.

However I was proved wrong.

The concert was absolutely awesome! Travel to the venue was straightforward and not too busy for starters and waiting in the cold for 2 hours was not as cold as I had feared. I was standing and although I wasn't that close to them, the venue had a slanted floor, so the combination of this and my highest heels allowed for a good view.

Everyone there tended to be the same age as me or older, that is over seventeen, and I felt that this added to the experience as we were all as excited and into the music as each other.

There was some moshing and although I tried to avoid it at first, I joined the pit during "Sex" and that was definitely the right choice; although it was very violent and fast and probably dangerous, it was loads of fun and got me into the music and got me right to the front!

The boys' playing was just brilliant, they really made us all get completely hypnotised by the music and they played some of their new album which sounded great. Matty looked really fit and shoutout to the guy on the sax, he was absolutely wicked!

They were just brilliant so as soon as I got home I bought a ticket to see them again in March hahaha. Definitely recommend!

The 1975's Melbourne show was insanely energetic even though Matty was apparently not feeling 100%. You wouldn't have known that he'd tweeted the night before apologising for being sick and mentioning that People might be dropped off the setlist due to his voice not being able to cope. Luckily, it was not dropped and proved an amazing opening song to get everyone up and dancing. There were three songs which really stood out over the course of the show: firstly, Love It If We Made It. It was apt that the climate strike had taken place the actual day that the Melbourne show was on, so Matty took it upon himself to do a little spiel about climate change which was (as usual) inspiring. The song itself was full of energy and great staging. Love Me sounded much better live than in studio which was a surprise for me! Finally, Sex was absolutely fantastic: everyone was screaming every word and Matty jumping up and down on stage. My only issue was that Girls was taken off the setlist which is understandable seeing as they're probably sick to death of playing it but I think they owe it to everyone to play their classics like Girls (Arctic Monkeys would never drop Do I Wanna Know despite Alex constantly complaining about how he's sick of it nor would Green Day drop American Idiot!). Genuinely an 8.5/10 and a fantastic night. (Matty in the pleated skirt was also a highlight!!!)

I attended the 1975 concert at LC Pavilion in Columbus, OH. This is a great venue that is standing room only. The pit at the front of the stage is always crowded and filled with fans ready for a good show. 1975 delivered!! The guys used the stage and interacted well with the crowd. They got everyone involved and singing along. They were all dressed in black pants and various black shirts. They used a nice back drop of the single lighted rectangle from the album art. The stage lighting was great and they used lots of smoke along with the lights to really highlight the band members.

They opened with The City which was truly awesome, they played a long intro to it to get the crowd really riled up! At one point they had the crowd hold up all their cell phones like lighters, it seemed like a special moment for them and they appreciated the large crowd in attendance. The highlight of the show was definitely their current hit song Chocolate.

Set list included, Milk, M.O.N.E.Y., So Far (It's Alright), Talk, She Way Out, Settle Down, Heart Out, Me, fallingforyou, You, Girls, Robbers, and Sex. Overall a great show and one of the better live shows I have seen.

From Vancouver, BC. PNE Forum May 1, 2017.

First opening band was Colouring, and I have to give them kudos for a job well done! I might be searching for their tunes. Second opening band instrumentals and music were good, but I was not a fan of the vocals.

On to The 1975: THANK YOU for an INCREDIBLE SHOW! The light show was AMAZING! STILL the best I have EVER seen! Matty kept all his attire on, lit up, and I swear there was a bottle of beer and a couple of wine glasses on stage. He danced on the piano and beckoned the sexy sax player. Mesmerizing. Merch was stocked! Unfortunately they did not carry the rose gold necklace I wanted. Set list was a mix of both albums and Medicine. He played 'Me' after kindly asking to put our phones away. Live in the moment for a memory no one else needs to know. Also played 'Robbers' after mentioning he'd never play it again, but they'll play it anyway. I was surprised how ok the acoustics were in the cement building of the PNE Forum. My friend and I had a tonne of fun! If you want a band that can give hot, steamy, sultry sex to your eyes and ears, see this band. MUSIC FOR CARS 2018!!!!

I have been a huge fan since their debut album, and last night got to see The 1975(first time) at the LC Pavilion in Columbus Ohio.Swim Deep opened for them and there was much anticipation and waiting for The 1975 to come on stage. There was a sensual smoky sound then the lights turned out and BOOM! They came out and killed the show with "Love Me". I'm 35 and I was sweating, singing, yelling and had the time of my life at this concert.Thier music is something special my 17 year old daughter and I share the same love for. Every damn song was phenomenal with the lights and screens.Matty interacted with the crowd throughout the night while sipping his wine. The long line outside, the standing was worth it in the end. Everyone loves The 1975, all ages and backgrounds it was exhilarating singing to all the songs with the crowd. They put on such an mind blowing show beginning to end. You can definitely feel the love.I can't wait for the new album, and the 2016 tour. When I listen to them I get lost in my feelings with thier atmospheric, sexy vibe. Great show from my favorite guys.

Starting with the opening act, it was really good DJ set.

The 1975 is band you shouldn't miss live. Really energetic even during slow songs. They're perfect live, as if you were listening to the album but with an extra vibe.

For this tour they have huge led screens everywhere with great graphics setting up the mood which is awesome and not usual as some bands do have led screens alternating graphics and live shots of themselves.

In one point of the concert I guess in one side of the Golden Circle people started pushing too hard against the barricade and Matt (front man) told them to hush and move two steps backwards, i guess there were some girls in trouble because he kept asking if someone was ok. He really cares about the fans, most artist would've let security handle it as they watched horrified.

This is one of my favorites bands and for sure they're awesome! So if you know too little this guy's go ahead and listen to more songs and watch videos and if they're coming on tour somewhere near you go see them live ;)

The 1975’s Matty Healy announces “indefinite hiatus” from shows after current tour ends

The band are currently on the North American leg of their ‘Still... At Their Very Best’ tour

1975 last tour

Matty Healy has announced that The 1975 will be going on an “indefinite hiatus” from live shows after their current tour ends.

The frontman shared the news at this week’s show at the Golden 1 Center, in Sacramento, California.

Towards the end of their set and just before they performed the track ‘Sex’, Healy made the announcement.

“It’s wonderful you’re all here,” he told the crowd. “After this tour, we will be going on an indefinite hiatus with shows, so it’s wonderful to have you guys with us tonight. Thank you so much.”

The newly announced dates – which includes four nights at London’s O2 – are set to be the band’s biggest European shows to date and will signal the end of the ‘ Being Funny In A Foreign Language ’ era.

They will kick off the 2024 ‘Still At Their Very Best’ tour at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro on February 9, before going on to perform at London’s O2 on February 12 and 13, followed by dates in Manchester (18) and Birmingham (21).

A European run will then follow in Lisbon, Madrid, Paris, Oslo, Copenhagen, Berlin, Milan and many more. Their final scheduled date at present is a show at Amsterdam’s AFAS Live on March 24, 2024. You can purchase any remaining tickets  from here .

1975 last tour

Speaking to  NME  last year in their cover interview  around the release of fifth album ‘Being Funny In A Foreign Language’, frontman  Matty Healy  said the ‘At Their Very Best’ tour name was inspired by their growth as a band.

“When I made ‘ A Brief Inquiry …’, we’d grown up a bit,” he said. “The idea of The 1975 continuing to grow up wasn’t a fear because it wasn’t unsexy. Now it’s kind of the sexiest thing about us. That’s why the tour is called ‘At Their Very Best’. We’ve got our shit sorted.”

It was recently confirmed that the band will stage the world’s first “carbon removed” live event at The O2 in London .

This month, The 1975 decided to promote their tour with a video starring Healy that parodies American political adverts .

The 1975 Will Take Hiatus From Live Shows After This Tour, Says Matthew Healy

By Jazz Monroe

The 1975s Matthew Healy with hands out

The 1975 will take an indefinite hiatus from touring once their current dates wrap up, Matthew Healy said at the band’s North American tour opener last night. “We love coming to this place and playing for you guys whenever we have the chance, and it’s wonderful you’re all here,” he told the crowd in Sacramento, California. “After this tour we will be going on an indefinite hiatus of shows so it’s wonderful to have you guys with us tonight.”

The 1975 have proceeded, with little interruption, through their marathon tours behind last year’s Being Funny in a Foreign Language : The 1975 at Their Very Best and Still… at Their Very Best . At the same time, controversies have mounted: First, Healy did an apparent Nazi salute onstage while performing the “Love It If We Made It” lyric that quotes Donald Trump’s praise of Kanye West. Not long after, on the Adam Friedland Show podcast, he joked about masturbating to racially degrading porn and laughed as the hosts made racially insensitive comments about Ice Spice. He half-apologized onstage, around the same time he reportedly started (and soon finished) dating Taylor Swift. In July, he defied Malaysia’s homophobic laws by kissing bassist Ross MacDonald onstage at Good Vibes Festival, prompting the government to pull the entire event. Festival organizers asked him to pay approximately $2.6 million in compensation .

Healy’s wording indicates the hiatus only applies to live shows, and the band often refer to breaks after album cycles, such as the Music for Cars era, as hiatuses. Pitchfork has emailed the band’s representatives for more details.

What Is The 1975’s Setlist Of Songs For Their ‘At Their Very Best Tour?’

Lexi Lane

The 1975 are currently continuing the North American leg of their At Their Very Best tour, in support of the band’s recent album, Being Funny In A Foreign Language . Between onstage antics from lead singer Matty Healy sparking online conversation, many fans are suddenly even more intrigued to attend one of the tour dates. For those who might not be as well-versed in The 1975’s complete discography, here’s a glimpse of what to expect in the setlist.

Last night, for The 1975’s concert at Madison Square Garden, they seemed to stick relatively to the same songs — as it ties into the staging and production of the show. In total, they played a grand total of 26 songs in a two-hour time span. During the first half, the songs consisted of their new music. The second half is made up of their past hits. Last night, The 1975 swapped “Be My Mistake” from past shows for “Consumption” instead — otherwise known as Healy’s meat scene .

Other changes across the tour so far include The 1975 swapping songs like “Medicine” and “A Change Of Heart” for cities they’re playing two nights in — which has been Boston so far.

The 1975 at Manchester’s AO Arena — stage times, setlist, support acts and more

Let's have a big ol' party, shall we? (this article contains affiliate links)

Danny Jones

The 1975 are back in Manchester once again this weekend with two massive dates at the AO Arena and, if Matty Healy and the name of the tour are to be believed, they are ‘still at their verrrrrry best’.

The pop, indie and alternative chart-toppers are currently on their biggest world tour ever and finally touched back down in the UK this month, having already played the likes of Glasgow and London, with their Manc gigs up next.

They might be from just outside of Greater Manchester but they came up through our legendary live music scene and have always considered this their de-facto town of origin, with legions of local fans more than happy to welcome that label.

With that in mind, their pair of homecoming performances are absolutely going to go off and if you’re lucky enough to be going, we’ve got the info you need. Here’s everything you need to know about The 1975 ‘s return to Manchester.

the 1975 manchester arena info

Is The 1975 sold out in Manchester?

If you were wondering if there are tickets left for The 1975’s Manchester gigs whatsoever, we were fully ready to say, ‘fat chance this time, mate’. However, it turns out there are still tickets left for 17 and 18 February at the AO Arena .

They sold out faster than you can say ‘smells like Chocolate’ last time the Wilmslow lads visited back in January 2023 but, presumably since there’s now less of a gap since their previous show and they put on a double bill of shows last year too, it’s meant that the scramble for tickets hasn’t been quite as hectic.

They’ve added an extra Manc date due to demand this time too, which should make sure as many people as possible stand a chance of grabbing a ticket; if you still fancy springing for one, standing has sadly gone but seated spots are still available for both Saturday and Sunday from £47.05 upwards HERE .

japanese house the 1975 support acts manchester

Support acts

Better still, you’ve got an unreal support act in store as well, with fellow Dirty Hit label-mates The Japanese House also joining them on this tour and set to get things warmed up at the AO Arena.

The stage name of fellow indie pop talent Amber Bain who recently released her second album and is only getting more popular year after year, the singer-songwriter and her band played a sold-out show at New Century Hall in October last year and is set to return for another solo show this May .

But before then, they’re set to play their biggest Manchester crowd to date and we’re sure we’ll see Matty hopping on stage to help sing cult favourite single ‘Sunshine Baby’ before their headline slot.

Stage times for The 1975’s Manchester show

Doors to The 1975 gig at AO Arena will be open from 6pm and The Japanese House aren’t expected to start playing until 7:30pm, giving you day-ones and die-hard fans plenty of time to get as close to the barrier as you can manage.

Playing a roughly half-hour set, you’ll get a decent interval to empty your bladders and re-stock drinks before the party gets in full swing at 8:30pm. It’s a long old set with more than 25 tracks due to be wheeled out, so best to be prepared.

Speaking of which, we’ve got you covered on that front as well, don’t worry.

While the last tour obviously leant heavily towards playing tracks from their most recent release, Being Funny in a Foreign Language , this current show has allowed them to dip back into other beloved tracks from previous albums, especially after seeing what surprises worked on the night in 2023.

Here’s the average setlist for the ‘Still… At Their Very Best’ tour, according to Setlist.fm …

1975 last tour

  • The 1975 (BFIAFL)
  • Looking for Somebody (to Love)
  • Part of the Band
  • Sincerity Is Scary
  • Oh Caroline
  • I’m in Love With You
  • A Change of Heart
  • An Encounter
  • fallingforyou
  • Consumption
  • Be My Mistake
  • If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know)
  • Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America
  • TOOTIMETOOTIMETOOTIME
  • It’s Not Living (If It’s Not With You)
  • I Always Wanna Die (Sometimes)
  • Somebody Else
  • Love It If We Made It
  • Give Yourself a Try

All that being said, these lot always like to chuck in a few surprises depending on what city they’re in, so don’t be shocked if they mix things up a little bit for us Mancunians.

Travel and parking for AO Arena

If you’re driving in for the show, there’s a large multi-storey car park based right next to the AO Arena, with access through the car park to the main entrance of the venue.

Trinity Way will be  closed  southbound between Great Ducie Street and Cheetham Hill Road for up to an hour as guests leave following larger shows like this, but if you’re parking at the Arena itself you’ll still be allowed to exit during this time — just turn right and follow the diversions.

As for getting there via public transport, your nearest stop is Manchester Victoria, with trains and trams going directly into the station where you can then walk directly up the steps and straight into the attached Arena entrance, with plenty of bus stops and taxi bays right outside too.

are there 1975 still at their very best tour tickets left?

  • Rod Stewart doesn’t think Ed Sheeran’s music will ‘stand the test of time’
  • Win tickets to see Everything Everything IAMDDB and more play the Union launch party
  • A live Planet Earth III concert with an orchestra is coming to Manchester

We never quite know what to expect from Healy and co. when it comes to live shows, but you can expect high production value, the same gorgeous set they’ve been rocking for well over a year now; most likely a new hairstyle or look from the charismatic frontman, not to mention plenty of banter and on-stage antics.

This particular music fan won’t pretend to be anything less than a massive 1975 fan, so if you’re wondering what The Manc Audio has made of their live performances in the past, you can read our review from their Manchester show last Jan HERE .

Up and coming bands in Manchester new music June 2024

Hello there (Obi-Wan Kenobi voice intended), we’re glad to see you’re back for the best new Manchester music that we’ve been funnelling directly into our ears this month.

It seems hard to believe that we’re already in June and six editions into this series; that’s half the year already gone and 30 bands already given a humble nod of approval – and now we have five more for you.

You’re forgiven if you’re new to this monthly round-up so long as you keep up to date with it regularly from now on, and why wouldn’t you? You get five Manchester bands or artists who are doing exciting things to keep us on the music map for nothing and with none of the work involved.

This is what we live for and there are few things we enjoy more than spotlighting rising talent.

Five new up-and-coming Manchester bands

Now, in a rare first for this series, we’re all bands this month but like pretty much anyone that comes out of Manchester’s music scene , they’re all absolutely belting.

Don’t worry, you’ve still got some variety in the genre to get stuck into, so let’s not dilly-dally any further, eh?

Let the tunes commence.

We’re starting off June’s list of Manchester bands we’ve been listening to with Pastel . Now, we have to make a disclaimer that they are now based in Swansea but these lads started with two cousins from 0161 and have gone on to support the likes of Liam Gallagher at Knebworth, The Charlatans and more.

Playing one of the biggest headline shows to date at Band on the Wall back in May – where they were supported by LG’s son’s band Villanelle – it felt like a bit of a watershed moment for the five-piece shoegaze-inspired band with deep roots here in 0161. They’re only young but we love a homecoming.

We’ve been listening to them for a while now but it feels like they’re starting to pick up some traction, so you best enjoy them as one of your best-kept secrets while you can. Our entry point was ‘Deeper Than Holy’, but their first song ‘She Waits For Me’ is great too and so is their new single ‘Dancing On A Pin’

Second on this month’s list is the emo -fuelled power pop rock group Hot Milk who are also well and truly on the rise, having dropped their debut album A Call To The Void last year, headlined Manchester Academy and recently supported Foo Fighters at their Villa Park show in Birmingham.

Punchy, punky, proudly Manc and with a pair of powerful vocalists fronting the band, you get flavours of everything from Vukovi, Yungblud, Against The Current, Tonight Alive and plenty of other contemporaries. What’s more, you only have to hear the energy from the crowd on their Academy live album to hear how deep their fans already are – they’re going far this lot.

‘Candy Coated Lie$’ is their most streamed song on Spotify and it’s a guess a great place to start, but from there we’d point you in the direction of ‘OVER YOUR DEAD BODY’ for the tasty breakdown alone, and then try ‘AMPHETAMINE’ which features vocals from Julian Comeau of Loveless. Oof.

3. Vulture Authority

From one modern punk-inspired band to another, Vulture Authority almost feels like Manchester’s semi-adopted answer to Idles meets Yard Act, Hello Cosmos and by way of Derby. Honestly, one minute you’ll get a tatse of The Reytons, the next your dancing like a prat to some modern ska riff. It’s chaotic.

We’ll confess that we came about these lads by way of them being a featured artist at the end of the Have A Word podcast after local comedian Jamie Hutchinson gave them a shout-out on an episode, but their unapologetic, simultaneously random and yet no-nonsense lyrics and instrumentation, twinned with lots of rolled Rs, Northern gruff and a familiar Manc whine caught our attention straight away.

In fact, the Gorton -based comic features in many of their songs and videos as you’ll see down below and while we’ll admit it’s very rough around the edges, it’s undeniably good fun. We’d suggest starting with ‘Torpedo Moscow’, ‘Working Class Jesus’ and then ‘Last Orders’, which you’ll find below.

4. Loose Articles

Oh yes, we’ve got even more punk for you and the fact they filmed the music video for their alternative Euro 2022 anthem ‘ Kick Like A Girl ‘ at the Peveril of the Peak, St George’s Park in Hulme and the ‘No Prawn Sandwiches’ sign outside the Man United pub in Trafford should be all the convincing you need.

Loose Articles are a Mancunian quartet with indie elements juggling the 9-5 like many up-and-coming bands but have now found themselves being championed by BBC Radio 6 Music, on Spotify’s ‘All New Punk’ playlist and also happen to have the best logo in the game: it’s the Stella Artois label…

There’s also another Foo Fighters connection here too, as the local bunch were the opening act for the rock gods’ first night at the Old Trafford earlier this month and got the energy going nice and early – not an easy job. ‘Up The Disco’, ‘Money for Booze’ and the new ‘Mr Manager’ are our recommendations.

5. Stanleys

And for the fifth and final name on our list of Manc bands this month, we’re technically heading out into Greater Manchester and the borough if Wigan to be specific, but we simply couldn’t wait any longer before bigging up the indie four-piece, Stanleys.

Flying the flag for the home of pie barms and the ‘Tics, these lads nail laid-back, melodic and catchy choruses, twinky guitar picking and have already opened up for the likes of Inspiral Carpets, The Clause and The Libertines, not to mention endless festival slots this year.

They’re also one of six acts supporting fellow native Richard Ashcroft for his massive homecoming gigs at Robin Park next month. The new single ‘He Knows’ have some of the most soft and staisying vocals to date, our first-ever listen was ‘Look Back’, but ‘A Better Life’ is understandably their biggest tune to date.

Co-op Live announce unreal trio of gigs as debut calendar hots up even more

And we’re sad to inform you but that’s your lot for new, up-and-coming, exciting Manchester bands and artists this month; we hope it also goes without saying that we barely even scratch the surafce every time we do this.

But the best part is, if you know of a band or musician who is doing exiting things here in 0161 and you think they deserve to be on this list, if you drop them in the comments enough, we just might see it.

But before we say goodbye, make sure to give all these names so love and if you missed last month’s Manc bands we’re listening to, you can find it down below.

Sod your 18-30 holidays – we’re all about the new 30+ club night that’s taking the UK by storm, and returns to Manchester in July.

Day Fever will be bringing its hugely popular daytime disco back to New Century on 6 July for a big old knees-up (even if your knees are a bit creaky).

The events usually sell out way in advance, but at the time of writing there are still a handful of tickets available for this next event.

There’s overwhelming demand for Day Fever events here in Manchester, the city where our over-30s were the ones at the forefront the Hacienda heyday – aka, people who know how to party.

Created by Line of Duty and This Is England star Vicky McClure, Day Fever comes with a strict age limit and promises to have you in bed by your normal time.

It’s also co-founded by Reverend and the Makers frontman Jon McClure (no relation), who you’ll often spot behind the DJ decks.

It’s described as ‘the daytime disco that doesn’t ruin your Sunday.’

Unlike most club nights, where you’re not even walking in until 10pm and bracing yourself to throw your usual sleep routine out the window, this one kicks off at 3pm. How civilised!

It also wraps up by 8pm, so you have a plethora of post-clubbing meals on your doorstep instead of being lumped with a late-night kebab.

Since its launch, Day Fever has been selling out in cities across the UK, including here in Manchester over the past weekend.

There are nostalgic TV shows, films and adverts shown on a big screen during the events.

Tickets for Day Fever’s Manchester event on 6 July are on sale now priced at £12.06 – you can get yours through Dice .

47 Years Ago Today: Elvis Presley Plays Final Concert — See the Setlist

W hen Elvis Presley took the stage in Indianapolis on June 26, 1977, nobody knew it would prove to be the final concert performance of his career. The King of Rock and Roll ran through a set of his biggest hits that night, ending with one of his best-known songs, “Can’t Help Falling in Love.”

The 42-year-old entertainment icon’s career had been in decline for years, tanked by a combination of bad B-movies, bad soundtracks from those movies devaluing his music and declining sales, as well as his massive weight gain and tendency toward lazy, self-indulgent performances.

But he enjoyed a career resurgence in the ’70s, releasing a string of much stronger songs that reinvigorated his recording career, including “Kentucky Rain,” “The Wonder of You,” “Always on My Mind,” “Moody Blue” and “Way Down.”

Where and When Was Elvis Presley’s Final Concert?

Presley performed to a crowd of nearly 18,000 fans at the Market Square Arena in Indianapolis on June 26, 1977, and archival film of the evening shows a very receptive, enthusiastic crowd.

What Did Critics Say About Elvis Presley’s Final Performance?

Critical reviews of his performance were more mixed. According to the Indianapolis Star , “His last concert here, nearly 2 years ago, found Elvis overweight, sick and prone to give a lethargic performance. As the lights in the arena were turned down after intermission, you could feel a silent plea rippling through the audience: Please, Elvis, don’t be fat.”

The review went on to praise Presley, saying, “Elvis is still carrying around some excess baggage on his mid-section, but it didn’t stop him from giving a performance in true Presley style … just about everything he did created mass hysteria … The packed arena was indication enough that Elvis is still as popular as ever.”

The Indianapolis News was much harsher, calling Presley a “sideshow” after multiple opening acts and noting that he didn’t hit the stage until nearly 10PM, even though the concert began at 8:30.

“It’s like waiting through the sword-swallower and the fire-eater before seeing the REAL attraction in the back room,” the review huffed, also taking issue with the lights, staging and performance itself.

“Last night’s lighting was only adequate and the sound was poor compared with some of today’s top national tours … Presley didn’t take enough of the singing business seriously. It’s time ardent Presley fans quit protecting their idol and start demanding more. They know ‘the King’ can do better.”

Sadly, he’d never get that chance. That show wrapped Presley’s touring for 1977, and he died after suffering a heart attack at his Graceland home on Aug. 16, 1977.
