About Singapore

Singapore has been always been a popular vacation destination for people since decades. One of the reasons why it is so famed is because of its ability to keep reinventing itself every few years. Whether it’s in terms of iconic landmarks or beautiful sights and fantastic things to do, Singapore has become a melting pot of culture and is well-known among people for its delicious street food and high-end shopping malls. Singapore is the upper crust when it comes to holidaying in Asia as it offers a cosmopolitan experience unmatched by any other Asian destination.

Singapore has everything going for it – a superb transport system, glitzy nightlife, awe-inspiring architecture, and entertainment options that begin right at the Changi Airport which has consistently been chosen as one of the top airports in the world and for good reason too. Singapore tourists are sure to find themselves spoiled for choice as they come across the many different facets of this city and all that there is to explore.

Facts you need to know about Singapore

  • Singapore is the only island city-state in the world & has a population of approximately 5.5 million people
  • It is the 4th largest financial center in the world; the 2nd busiest port in the world; one of the biggest tourist attractions in the world; one of the highest per capita incomes and standard of living in the world.
  • The tallest indoor waterfall in the world is located in Singapore at the Gardens by the Bay, and it stands at a height of 35 meters
  • Singapore was home to the world’s first night zoo
  • Singapore pioneered the first F1 night race
  • Military service is mandatory for all men in Singapore for two years after finishing high school

  • Se la mat jalan – Good bye
  • Terima kasih – Thank you
  • Ya – Yes

  • Sama sama – Same

Best Time to Visit Singapore

Although Singapore is a year-round destination, the months from November to January, which are the winter months can be the best time to visit Singapore . The weather is not as hot and humid as it is throughout the rest of the year. Christmas and New Year are celebrated with great gusto here and it’s a complete treat for the senses if you happen to visit during this time. The downside is that this is also peak time and the crowds can be quite a deterrent especially if you were looking for a quiet vacation. Also, since the Chinese New Year falls during this time, it’s very likely that you will find ticket and accommodation prices soaring if you haven’t booked ahead of time.

Another great time to visit Singapore is during the month of July. This is especially if you love shopping or food because Singapore has the Great Singapore Sale and Singapore Food Festival during this time. April is also a good time to visit if you’re looking to save money on flights and bookings while the offseason in Singapore is between August and October. Since Singapore hosts the Singapore Grand Prix in mid-September, you can however expect an influx of tourists. But apart from that, hotel rates during this time are quite manageable.

How to Reach Singapore

The best way to reach Singapore is by flight. Singapore is well-connected to India by several direct flights from various cities. There are numerous major airlines that connect India with Singapore and some of these include Air India, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airlines and Tiger Airways to name a few. Some of the cities from where you can fly directly to Singapore include New Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, and Bangalore. Singapore’s Changi Airport is stunning and offers several facilities like a swimming pool, gym and gorgeous gardens, and even movie theatres, offering passengers an unforgettable experience.

If you’re traveling from Malaysia, then you can reach Singapore by road too. There’s a causeway between Singapore and Johor Bahru and you can rent a car and drive between both countries yourself. You can also opt to hire a taxi or simply take a bus if you wish to travel from Malaysia to Singapore. You can also travel to Singapore by train, and there are two lines. One connects Singapore with Malaysia and the other connects it with Thailand.

Local transport in Singapore is efficient and organized. You can opt for the MRT for which you can take the EZ-Link Card or a Singapore Tourist Pass if you’re staying for more than a week. The buses are also well-connected and alternatively, you can try the trishaws, but you need to have decent bargaining skills, or you’ll end up spending a lot of money.

Places to Visit in Singapore

Singapore is one of the most electric cities that you can find yourself in, a city that is vibrant and alive with culture, technology and the most amazing food you can find. As a city that constantly keeps changing to keep up with the times, it’s also a city that never stays suspended in time. It’s always evolving and yet, there are some places to visit in Singapore  that are perennial favourites. Here are some of them.

Sentosa Island

Universal studios, botanic gardens, gardens by the bay, jurong bird park.

A trip to Singapore simply must include a visit to Universal Studios in Resorts World Sentosa, which has thrilling and exciting rides as well as some spectacular shows. A 49-acre park with seven fun zones, Universal Studios offers the kind of enjoyment that makes adults wish they were back in their childhood. A perfect family outing that includes some hair-raising rides featuring some of the most famous pop culture icons such as Transformers, Jurassic Park, and Sesame Street. Some of the shows here are also extremely thrilling.

Even if you’re not much of a nature enthusiast, you’ll be stunned by the gorgeous greenery of the Singapore Botanic Gardens that is spread out over 82 hectares and has more than 10,000 species of plants and trees. The National Orchid Garden and the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden are wonderful, but the real treat is the interactive rainforest exhibit which is an unforgettable experience with its museums, statues, fountains and a beautiful lake to top it all.

Right in the middle of Singapore, you’ll come across these stunning structures that look like something out a futuristic movie. These Supertree structures which are a part of the Gardens by the Bay are simply fantastical and they are connected by a skyway that allows people to go on a skywalk that looks out over the gardens. The greenhouse is also shaped like a seashell and it is called the Flower Dome and is currently the largest glass greenhouse in the world. The Super trees, the gardens and the conservatories are spectacular.

If you are looking for a bustling look at contemporary Chinese culture in Singapore, then look no further than Chinatown with its heritage red lanterns, authentic and delicious Chinese food, traditional shops and temples and much more. It’s easy to lose yourself in the middle of this cultivated chaos filled with ceremonies and cultural relics that it’s quite easy to forget that you’re in modern Singapore. Food is also one of the big draws here, especially delicious street food that’s cheap and has a wide variety.

One of the most famous landmarks of Singapore is the Jurong Bird Park which is known to have around 5000 birds from 400 different species. There are several interactive shows and exhibits that will keep you enthralled. But the most spectacular sight here is the Waterfall Aviary which is a delight to the senses. The 30m high waterfall is the world’s largest walk-in aviary. Other things to see here include the Penguin Coast, the Pelican Cove and the Flamingo Lake.

Would you believe it that some people make a trip to Singapore, just to enjoy the food? Yes, it’s true. Singapore is rightly considered a feast for the taste buds and a huge number of choices – Malay, Chinese, Japanese, Indian and even continental. There’s something for everyone here. While the range of food in Singapore is quite mind-boggling, here are a few dishes that you must try while you are here.

One of the most popular dishes that you should certainly try when in Singapore is BakChorMee which translates to minced meat and noodles. However, the dish itself is not as mundane as the translation, because it’s a glorious combination of minced meat layered with broth and flat egg noodles, spiced with chilies and a tangy aftertaste.

It’s quite possible that you will have the best dim sums of your life in Singapore. While available all over China and other Asian countries, the dim sum here melts in the mouth and is stuffed with curried chicken, vegetables, pork, beef or seafood. Dim sum in Singapore can often veer into the main course category as people just can’t stop eating them!

This is street food at its best. Strips of meat, be it beef, chicken or pork are skewered and basted with sauce to create a chewy and delicious delight which is often served with peanut sauce and onion rings. This tasty treat is found in most street food outlets and is often sold out very fast.

Drinking Water

Singapore tap water is safe & potable to drink. The water in Singapore undergoes a multi-step purification process, which includes coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection. The water is then stored in covered reservoirs and distributed through a network of pipes to homes and businesses throughout the country.

Popular Local Cuisines in Singapore

Singapore's multi-ethnic culture and heritage presents a multitude of colourful cuisines, each with its own unique flavor. From Michelin-starred delicacies and international cuisines to scrumptious creations by homegrown chefs and timeless hawker favorite’s, this is where you can taste it all. Savour new flavours, new atmospheres, and discover the obsession that goes into crafting every dish.

  • Chwee kueh: It may not be the prettiest belle at the ball, but we think chwee kueh is in a league of its own. It’s definitely one of our top picks for breakfast foods around the island. Nothing beats the simplicity of chewy rice cakes. And when you slather them in salty chye poh and tangy chilli, you’ve got the perfect bite.
  • Wanton mee: A perfect bowl of wanton noodles should be a medley of wildly contrasting textures. Firm, springy noodles drenched in sauce, soft dumplings stuffed with flavourful meat, and thick char siew (barbecued pork) slices with a good bit of charring. Some of our top picks include Ji Ji Wanton Noodle Specialist and Fei Fei Roasted Noodle.
  • Char kway teow: This fried rice noodle dish may not score major points for presentation, but we guarantee you it’s darned tasty. What you’ll get is a plate of flat rice noodles, stir-fried in sweet dark soy sauce with fishcake, egg, bean sprouts, prawns and cockles. It’s no secret that this doesn’t register high on the health-o-meter, but we just can’t resist digging into a plate at the much-lauded Armenian Street Char Kway Teow.

3 Day Itinerary for Singapore travellers

When you go on a vacation to another country it is advisable to spend at least a week there. It’s a smart choice, since you get to explore almost every aspect of the place, and thus, can make the most of your vacation. However, not everyone can manage to take an entire week out of work or school and go travelling. So here we are with a 3-day itinerary for Singapore travellers with a week’s worth of action.

Itinerary for Singapore Travellers

Start with a place that is perfect for everyone, from children to grandparents. We’re referring to the fun and exciting world of Universal Studios, Singapore. While you get a guided tour of this amazing place and meet your favourite movie characters, your mind and body can take it easy and prepare for an exciting Day 2.

Universal Studios

For the second day of your Singapore holidays , kick off your morning by visiting the city’s zoo or the Jurong Bird Sanctuary (which is a romantic option for couples). No matter which of the two places you head to, serene natural beauty and colourful wildlife will be there to greet you with open arms. A few hours with nature and you will definitely leave the place feeling peaceful and relaxed.

Singapore Zoo

You’ll most likely get done by noon, and will definitely need something to cool you down. This is when you head to Ngee Ann City, the city’s most famous shopping complex. Completely air conditioned, it will definitely be a cool break from the heat outside. Start by having a quick bite at the large food court and then make your way through local and even global clothing brands. You will definitely leave the place with more bags than you can handle.

Ngee Ann City

Once you’ve stopped by your hotel to drop off your shopping bags, step outside and explore Singapore . As the sun goes down, the lights come on and the city’s landscape transforms from a concrete jungle to a nightlife and street food paradise. So no matter what you eat or where you prefer to eat , the streets of Singapore have a dish, tailor-made for you.

Singapore - Street Food

For your final day in the city, do something completely different and exciting. Put on a pair of hiking shoes and check out the natural wonders that are the forests of Singapore. To be more specific, hike up the Walking Trail at the Treetop Walk. This 6 km round trip will take you through lush dense forests and give you a glimpse of the country’s diverse and colourful wildlife. The main attraction of this trek is a 250 meter-long walk over a wooden bridge from where not a single skyscraper is in sight.

Wooden Bridge - Singapore

This trek will barely take half your day; for the remainder of your last day, you could go back to your hotel and relax with a warm bath, or you could go shopping to Mustafa Centre. This is the one place in the city where they have everything from a tube of toothpaste to a washing machine.

Mustafa Centre

If you follow this itinerary for Singapore travellers, by the time your 3-day Singapore tour packages has come to an end, you will have seen everything from a concrete jungle to scenic landscapes.  So the next time you decide to make your way through the country, remember, even a 3 – 4 day trip can help you explore every aspect of the land.

Food in Singapore

Things to Do in Singapore

An eclectic city by day or night, Singapore wins hearts of people of all ages. From its gorgeously lit up skyline to its wide range of activities, there are innumerable fun things to do in Singapore and there’s not a single moment where you could feel bored. Here are some of the top things to do in Singapore .

Visit Raffles Hotel

Explore clarke quay, check out orchard road, go on the singapore flyer, enjoy the singapore night safari, go on a cruise ride, eat at lau pa sat market.

For a cosmopolitan experience like no other, head to Clarke Quay which has numerous bars and restaurants and of course, the best nightclubs in the city. The location itself is of primary importance as it’s located on a quay and the body of water adds a certain glamour to the place. You can spot people settling down for a bite at the many riverside restaurants while the bars add a bit of excitement. There are lots of exciting options for shoppers as well.

If you love window shopping and walking past beautiful boutiques and restaurants, then Orchard Road is an iconic site that must be experienced. It’s easy to spend an entire day looking through the various shops, restaurants and cafés as well as shopping malls which also feature fairs and other exciting activities, making this an extremely happening place at the best of times.

If you don’t fear heights, go on the Singapore Flyer, which is said to be the world’s largest observation wheel. The Singapore Flyer is 165 metres high and offers some spectacular sights, both at night and day. Some of the sights that you can witness would be Marina Bay, Empress Place, Raffles Place and the Singapore River to name a few. This is truly a magnificent experience and one that must not be missed if you are in Singapore.

One of the best things to do in Singapore is the Night Safari which is quite brilliant and an experience that will not be forgotten soon. It’s much more than a zoo and it begins with the Creatures of the Night show that offers a 20-minute overview of the animals that can be seen here. Some of the animals that you will see here include one-horned rhinos, wildebeests, gazelles and Himalayan griffon vultures among the 1000 animals from around the world.

Enjoy a quiet and relaxing ride on the harbor and see a completely different side of Singapore. There are several options that you can choose from – a high tea cruise or a dinner cruise and you can also try the Morning Glory Cruise which begins early in the morning. Every cruise is quite unique and shows an aspect of Singapore that you would not have seen otherwise.

The Lau Pa Sat Market is one of the well-known street food centers that you should not miss out on when you are in Singapore. Located in the middle of the central business district, during day you are most likely to see office people grabbing a quick lunch but by evening, the street is closed, and it becomes everyone go-to place for delicious and filling food. If you’re adventurous enough, you can try some interesting seafood dishes here such as grilled stingray in spicy sambal sauce.

Visiting Singapore? Here’s How You Can Make Most of Your Trip!

Table of contents.

singapore tour packages thomas cook

Singapore! The very name conjures up images of a clean, beautiful country with its pristine waterfront and the iconic Merlion welcoming you into his home. Rising from its humble beginnings as a fishing village, Singapore has become one of the most advanced economies in the world today. When you are visiting Singapore, this country welcomes tourists with open arms. From the well-known Sentosa Island and the Marina Bay hotel to the obscure Haw Par Villa, Singapore is a treasure trove of delight.

Singapore has a well-developed tourist infrastructure that makes exploring the island nation very easy. It has something for everybody. Even though it is a small island, it has a rich cultural diversity. Chief among these are the Chinese, Indian, Malay and European influences. It is an ultra-modern country with a deep-rooted heritage.

Singapore knows how to take care of its visitors. There are ‘Singapore Visitor Centres’ dotting the island where you can get any information regarding the tourist attractions. Along with the information, you can also buy tickets to the many attractions or pick up a souvenir to carry back home. Singaporeans take pride in their country and you can see it in the way the it is kept clean and in how its citizens obey all rules.

There are many interesting and wonderful things to do while you’re in Singapore.

Marina Bay Sands Light and Water Show

Every evening the Marina Bay Sands hotel puts a beautiful light and water show that is free to watch. It is a beautiful ballet of light and water choreographed by modern technology. The lasers from the unique ship-like rooftop of the Marina Bay hotel light up the night sky. The water reflects the colours back beautifully from the rooftop of the hotel’s shopping centre.

In addition to the lights, the singing fountains and the video projections on the splashes is a sight to behold. All this while the night sky and the beautifully lit city skyline make a beautiful backdrop to a beautiful show.

The best part of the show is that it is free for everybody. There are two shows every evening from Sunday to Thursday at 8:00pm and 9:00pm. On Friday and Saturday, there is one additional show at 10:00pm.

Gardens By The Bay: The Cloud Forest

This is the best representation of a concrete jungle. And when we say concrete jungle, we mean a jungle built over concrete. This marvel of vegetation is a conservatory that showcases some rare plants and their fast-disappearing environment.

Amidst this mysterious world veiled in mist, the 35-metre-tall Cloud Forest is home to plant life from tropical highlands to up to 2,000 metres above sea level. It also hosts the world’s tallest indoor waterfall.

It is a marvel of architecture. There were 2,577 glass panels of 690 different shapes used in the construction of its dome. Be sure to set aside ample time to leisurely explore this marvel. Make sure you carry a warm jacket. With the temperature around 23-25 degree Celsius and humidity between 80% – 90%, it gets a bit chilly and moist inside. You can pay for your admission with cash. But you can also pay for the admission with your prepaid forex card .

  • Singapore Zoo

The Singapore Zoo is one of the main attractions of Singapore. It is also one of the best zoos in the world. It is home to a variety of exotic animals like otters, giant crocodiles, pygmy hippos, zebras, lions and a host of primate species. You can even get your picture taken with a python or an orangutan.

The zoo is made up of four parts:

The zoo is home to more than 2,800 animals belonging to over 300 species of birds, mammals and reptiles.

  • Jurong Bird Park

It is one of the largest free-flying aviaries in the world. It houses more than 5,000 birds across 400 different species. There are bird shows which encourage visitor-participation.

  • Night Safari

The night safari gives you the thrill of watching nocturnal animals in their natural habitat. You can roam around the midst of animals going about their usual business.

  • River Safari

This river safari is home to one of the largest collections of freshwater fauna in the world. It houses over 6,000 creatures which include no less than 40 threatened species.

The Singapore Zoo can take up your entire day but will not bore you. There are many animal shows which are happening inside at different times. If you are not travelling with kids, do not take the train as the queues are long.

Also Read : 6 Romantic places in Singapore that will give you #CoupleGoals.

You can save some money on your tickets by booking them at least a week in advance. Pay for your tickets with your prepaid forex card for convenience.

Haw Par Villa

Haw Par Villa is one place you will not see on your typical tourist beat. It is one of the most unique theme parks in the world. It is either crazy or artistic, depending on your bent of mind. It has over 1,000 statues and 150 dioramas that depict scenes from Chinese folklore.

There’s a statue of the laughing Buddha, armed monkeys and giant crabs with human faces, just to name a few. One of its most noted dioramas is the “Ten Stages of Hell”.

It is a very unconventional attraction worth your time if you are not squeamish or are not travelling with children. Some of the dioramas are very detailed and grotesque. But, this park is worth visiting for the unique experience. And it is free! Try to visit in the mornings as it gets hot during the afternoons.

Some Useful Tips

Singapore is a very tourist-friendly country with a very low crime rate. But Singapore enforces its rules and regulations quite strictly. The country loves cleanliness and there are hefty fines for littering. Do you know that chewing gum is banned in Singapore? Unless you have a medical prescription, you cannot buy or possess chewing gum.

Though Singapore is an expensive country, the street food is surprisingly affordable and delicious. You get an endless array of cuisines from around the world and you end up saving money. There are many food courts where the food is delicious and affordable. Use your cash to pay for food here.

Here are a few tips that can make your stay in Singapore a memorable one.

  • The Singapore Metro is well-connected. It is also one of the cheapest and the best ways of getting around.
  • If you ever travel by a taxi, always pay by cash. Card payments attract an extra surcharge.
  • Singapore offers a pleasant shopping experience. But, always compare prices before buying.
  • Use your prepaid forex card for making purchases wherever you can. Most of the shops in Singapore accept these cards for payment.
  • You will be charged a 7% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on your purchases made in Singapore. But, you can claim it back at the airport if you have spent more than $100 at any participating shops.
  • You can get free public Wi-Fi in Singapore. Register for a free public Wi-Fi account with your mobile number at any Wireless@SG hotspot.
  • The tap water in Singapore is up to the standards set by the World Health Organization. You can carry a drinking bottle with you which you can refill at any water tap and save money on bottled water.

Remember to follow the rules and respect the local culture. Singapore may be a tiny island, but it will create a wonderful experience and give you memories for life.

Happy journey!

Places to visit in Singapore

There is more to Singapore than high end shopping malls, luxury hotels and fine dining. The vibrant history and rich culture of the country create a diverse list of places to see in Singapore. Thanks to the very efficient public transportation system, it is very easy to travel around Singapore and trace its many ethnic branches within the city. The key Singapore tourist places that one can cover while doing Singapore sightseeing include:

Sentosa Island : Sentosa Island is Singapore’s golden paradise, popular with tourists as well as locals. Sentosa has all the best Singapore beaches such as

Siloso Beach, which is a good spot for water sports like kayaking, or Tanjong Beach. The various Singapore beaches are all man-made; they were created to encourage Singapore tourism, using sand imported from Malaysia. That said, the beaches are all lovely. Sentosa is also home to many popular Singapore attractions in the massive Resorts World . Visitors can get around Sentosa island using free buses and the free monorail service. Some popular family-friendly Singapore tourist attractions within the Resorts World include the Adventure Cove Water Park with 7 different water-based rides and slides and other water activities, and the Sentosa Nature Discovery with a variety of jungle habitats and forest trails. Sentosa is one of the most popular inclusions in a Singapore travel package for families.

Marina Bay Sands : Singapore is known for its famous and grand Marina Bay. It is a luxury resort location in Singapore with a hotel, a mall and a canal running through it. The Marina Bay Sands Skypark offers a vantage point from which you can enjoy panoramic views of Singapore and major Singapore tourist attractions. The Art Science museum is another attraction here with multiple exhibits on art, science and their inter-relatedness.

Singapore Flyer : The Singapore Flyer stands out in the Singapore skyline as a giant observation wheel that takes in the entire city. Standing 165m tall, this is the second-largest observation wheel in the world and offers brilliant views of the cityscape in a 30 minute ride. From the Singapore Flyer you will be able to enjoy unforgettable views of various Singapore tourist places like Marina Bay, the river, the Colonial district, the tall glass skyscrapers of the CBD etc. On a clear day, you can even see ships on the South China sea. The Flyer looks particularly wonderful when lit up at night.

Gardens by the Bay:  Arguably one of the most popular places to visit in Singapore, Gardens by the Bay are Singapore’s futuristic botanic gardens established on reclaimed land in 2011. Popular sights here include the Flower Dome , showcasing exotic plants from five continents, the Cloud Forest with misty tropical mountain environs, a 30m high indoor waterfall and a Treetop Walk, the towering Supertrees and vertical gardens, and many more fabulous spots.

Universal Studios:  This Hollywood theme park on Sentosa island is an extremely popular Singapore tourist attraction. Divided into various zones, Universal Studios offers something for everyone irrespective of age. Younger children will enjoy the Sesame Street and Lost World themed attractions, while thrill-seeking adults would love Sci-Fi City where they can enjoy themed rollercoasters and 3D rides, Ancient Egypt’s dark Revenge of the Mummy rollercoaster, and more.

Singapore Zoo : The Singapore Zoo is a really impressive rainforest with an interesting range of animals. It displays the letters, photographs, and personal artefacts bearing testaments to the thousands of civilians and soldiers affected by War.  The museum is earmarked by murals recreated from the original works by Stanley Warren. The Changi Chapel stands graciously in the museum’s open-air courtyard.

You will find lionfish and lobsters in the South China Sea, Nemo and eels in the Bay of Bengal, fire shrimp and boxfish in the Red Sea and colourful reef fish in the Caribbean Sea. Watch sharks swim over your head in the Shark Tunnel, and marvel at jellyfish and deep sea octopus at the Ocean Journey exhibit. Children will love the daily feeding sessions and the huge Open Ocean tank with its sharks, stingrays and other fish. Add this Singapore attraction to your plan if you are travelling with children.

Singapore being a melting pot of cultures and traditions has a varied cuisine. Food makes up for a major Singapore attraction. A rich heritage of foods steeped in Indian, Malaysian, Indonesian and Chinese cultures, make up for the food scene in Singapore. Here are a few authentic dishes in Singapore which are a definite must-try during your Singapore holiday

Laksa: Laksa, being a mash-up of Chinese and Malay elements, is the perfect dish to try in Singapore. There are two main types, the curry laksa and asam laksa. It is traditionally made with vermicelli, coconut milk, fish slices, shrimp and cockles.

Chilli Crab: This is the national dish of Singapore and also featured in CNN’s list of the World’s top 50 most delicious foods. The dish is a simple one consisting of stir-fried crab served in savoury tomato-chilli sauce. If you enjoy seafood, this is one dish you must try on your Singapore trip. Hokkien Mee: This fried noodle dish is one of the most popular street foods in Singapore. It consists of a mix of yellow and white noodles, combined with bean sprouts and fried along with egg and sometimes seafood. Some hawkers serve it dry, some add a gravy.

Carrot Cake (Chai Tow Kway): This popular Singapore snack is made using radish, not carrots! Shredded daikon radish is mixed with rice flour, formed into rice cakes and fried along with eggs.

Wanton noodles: The Singaporean wanton noodles are influenced by the cuisine of Hong Kong and are typically eaten dry, with slices of pork char siew and wonton dumplings and served with a bowl of soup on side.

When in Singapore, trying out its unique food scene is a necessity to experience its varied culture!

Indian Food in Singapore

Cool things to do in Singapore

Now that you know all about the important places to visit in Singapore, we would also recommend that you take out some time for some authentic and offbeat experiences during your Singapore trip.

Here are some cool and interesting things to do in Singapore, which will elevate your Singapore itinerary beyond the normal to the extraordinary!

Explore authentic local neighbourhoods

No country exemplifies cultural and religious fusion better than Singapore does. Learn a little more about some of these cultures that contribute to Singapore tourism by exploring some of the ethnic neighbourhoods. Explore Chinatown , the vibrant neighbourhood characterized by red Chinese lanterns, scores of eateries and shopfronts, ancient heritage homes and upscale boutiques all co-existing cheerfully. The key Singapore tourist attractions here are the Chinese Heritage Centre, the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and the Sri Mariamman Hindu temple. Walk around Little India and the Arab Street areas, colourful neighbourhoods known for their celebrations of traditional festivals. The Sri Veeramakaliamma Temple and the Sultan Mosque are important places to see here.

Take your kids on the Night Safari

Nightlife of a different kind! The Singapore Night Safari is the world’s first nocturnal park, and is open only at night, every night. It is one of the most awarded Singapore tourist places and is very popular especially with children. The park can be toured conveniently via tram, and offers the opportunity to see nocturnal animals from different continents such as the Malayan Tiger, Asian Lion, Nile Hippo, White African Lion, Leopard, Giant Flying Squirrel, Tapir, Pangolin, Loris and more. If you are booking a Singapore package with your family, do ensure that you include this place in your Singapore itinerary. Children will also love the “Creatures of the Night” show.

Pick an adrenalin-pumping adventure

This destination offers a ton of options for the thrill-seekers looking to add an element of adventure to their Singapore holiday. At iFly Singapore on Sentosa Island, you will find the world’s largest wind tunnel for indoor skydiving. Also at Sentosa, you can try Bungy jumping with a view of Siloso beach, or enjoy the Giant Swing that takes you 40m high at speeds reaching 100km/hr. For those who love cars, Singapore offers the opportunity to drive Super Cars like the Lamborghini Huracan or the McLaren 12C on the Singapore F1 race route! Water sports enthusiasts can pick from knee-boarding, wakeboarding, and cable skiing at Singapore Wake Park , or enjoy stand-up paddling at Tanjong beach . Snorkelling and Scuba diving are also available at various island sites around Singapore. Add an adventurous twist to your Singapore honeymoon package by picking from any of these experiences!

Go on a Street Food exploration

Singapore is a true haven for the foodie. The Hawker centres here are a Singapore attraction in their own right. Hawker centres of Singapore are essentially groups of street food stalls arranged like food courts, offering everything from snacks to entire meals. A Singapore holiday is incomplete without experiencing at least one of these. Try the Chinatown Complex or the Old Airport Road Food Centre to eat like a local. The Hong Lim Food Centre and Golden Mile Food Centre are not only amazingly good, they also offer some vegetarian options. Alternatively, explore Bugis Street for its various street food options.

Admire the colourful Ann Siang Hill

If you’ve seen the film “Crazy Rich Asians”, this is the place with the gorgeous pastel coloured shopfronts that was featured in the movie. Ann Siang Hill used to be the residential enclave of the wealthy in the 19 th century; it is now famous for its insta-worthy coloured shophouses and its happening cafes, boutiques, clubs and restaurants.

Take a river cruise

Starting from Clarke Quay, a River Cruise is a great and relaxing way to see some of the Singapore tourist attractions. You will experience a ride on the iconic Singapore bumboat – traditional wooden boats that were originally used to ferry cargo and people across the river. Enjoy views of Singapore attractions like the Merlion, Marina Bay Sands, Clarke Quay and the Singapore Flyer. If you take this cruise in the evening you can watch the attractions as they get illuminated. This is a great activity to include into your Singapore tour package.

Go shopping!!

Apart from Singapore sightseeing, a popular aspect of any Singapore travel package should be retail therapy! Visit Orchard Road for the latest in branded clothes and accessories, be it high street brands or haute couture. Alternatively, go to Haji Street to pick up unique finds at the independent designer stores and handicraft shops here. Bugis Street offers a lot of wallet-friendly street shopping for the fashion lovers, while the IMM Outlet Mall offers highly discounted outlet shopping for a range of fashion brands. In Little India, the Mustafa  mall is famous for offering cheap prices on a range of products.

Click your picture with the Merlion

The Merlion Park in Singapore is where the two most famous Merlion statues in Singapore can be seen – the main Merlion and a 2 metre tall Merlion “cub”. However, did you know that there are a total of 7 officially approved Merlion statues in Singapore? You can see a giant Merlion in Sentosa, and another one at Mount Faber.

Visit the world’s largest Orchid garden

The Singapore Botanic Gardens are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best places to visit in Singapore if you are a nature lover. This huge garden houses over 10,000 plant species and is Singapore’s oldest existing garden space, a perfect location for a picnic or just a morning out in nature. One of the highlights of the Botanic Gardens is the National Orchid Garden , which has the world’s largest orchid display with over 60,000 plants and orchids available for visitors to marvel at. Another highlight of the Botanic Gardens is the Childrens’ Garden, where children are invited to play and learn about plant life. For a Singapore travel package with kids, this is definitely a fun thing to include in your plan.

Singapore nightlife experiences to add to your itinerary

One of the highlights of Singapore holiday packages is the vibrant nightlife of the city. Here are a few things to do in Singapore, without which your Singapore itinerary is incomplete. If you are looking to book a Singapore honeymoon package, pay special attention!

Sip on a cocktail

Singapore is known for its cocktail scene, replete with unique creations by some of the top-rated mixologists. The very famous Singapore Sling is a classic cocktail - a medley of gin, cherry brandy, benedictine, grenadine, and Cointreau, mellowed with lime and pineapple juice. The best place to have this drink is of course where it was invented – the Long Bar at The Raffles. The Raffles is set to reopen after an extensive renovation in 2019. Another cool version is Nutmeg & Clove’s Barrel Aged Singapura Sling , designed by the Taiwanese bartender Kae Yin. This is a spiced hibiscus-infused Tanqueray London Dry gin with Cherry Heering, a definite must-try! When in Singapore, don’t forget to taste the Benedictine Dom , which is a mix of goji & red date syrup, orange cream citrate and aromatic bitters in a wooden cask. Served out of a porcelain cup, perched on a rattan rickshaw, its serving style adds up to its authenticity!

Spin the dice at the Marina Bay Sands

An oasis of chic, the Marina Bay is one of the most iconic amongst the Singapore attractions.  Dotted with bars along the waters and a few out in the roof, Marina Bay Sands is quite a sight at night!  The Casino here is a huge gambling space spread over 4 levels. There are over 600 table games and 1,500 slots. The Marina Bay Sands is billed as one of the world’s most expensive casino properties. Take your Lady Luck along to try your luck here!

Enjoy the high at a rooftop bar

A drink in one of the rooftop bars around Singapore with a view of the Singapore night skyline is a must-do experience on your Singapore honeymoon package! Enjoy panoramic views from the world’s highest alfresco bar on the 63 rd floor at the 1 Altitude Bar , or head to the Lantern rooftop bar at the Fullerton Bay Hotel for unobstructed views of the water and the light show at the Marina Bay Sands. You could also visit Ce La Vi, the rooftop restaurant and bar at the Marina Bay Sands, one of the most popular places to visit in Singapore for a drink thanks to its amazing views. For something more unique, how about the Supertree by IndoChine – imagine having a drink while sitting atop the tallest Supertree at the Gardens by the Bay! If you are looking for a casual night out, try Loof for local flavours, happy hour deals and DJ music.

Go Bar hopping at Clark Quay

The party hub of Singapore, Clarke Quay is known for its nightlife, earmarked by dazzling lights and a kaleidoscope of night-clubs, pubs and bars along the Singapore River. Post sunset, there is a heightened sense of excitement as the area comes alive. Of all the bars in Singapore, Clarke Quay has some of the best in the business!  The Bar Cocoon, Bamboo Bar, the Forbidden City, Bar Opiume at the Empress Place along the river, and Attica deserve special mention!

Dance the night away at a club

If you enjoy dancing and partying, then Singapore has a lot to offer you. Enjoy the vibrant and colourful party scene in Singapore along with your friends or partner. If you are on a short trip to Singapore then don’t miss Zouk , the best nightclub in Singapore. For beach parties on the weekend, you cannot go wrong with the Tanjong Beach Club on Sentosa Island. Cherry Disco offers hip hop and disco for those who want a change from the usual EDM. For a premium experience, there is the Pangea , a super luxury club at the Marina Bay Sands.

Visa Requirements for Singapore Trip:

To explore Singapore, Indian passport holders need to obtain a Singapore tourist visa after booking the Singapore tour package. Indian citizens need to apply for a visa at least thirty days before their arrival date in Singapore. Visa application can be downloaded through the website of the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, or you can get it from an approved agent. The Singapore tour visa application fee is INR 1,853 for a single-entry visa and 5,557 for a double-entry visa. Also, all travellers must submit an SG Arrival Card at least 3 days before entering Singapore.

If all the submitted documents are correct, the processing time of the Singapore visa is typically three to five working days after submission. Notably, a tourist visa is valid for three months after the issue date, but you can stay in the country for up to thirty days per trip.

Best Time For Singapore Trip:

Singapore is a year-round destination, but determining the best time to visit Singapore for booking a Singapore Tour Package from India depends entirely on your preferences and schedule.

1) Peak Season: The average temperature from November to January in Singapore ranges between 25 degrees to 31 degrees Celsius. November to January and June to July witness a huge footfall as Singapore receives minimum rain, low humidity, and ample sunshine. Various events and festivals are held during these months, including New Year and Christmas. If you are a shopping enthusiast and plan your Singapore tour d uring June and July, do take advantage of the Great Singapore Sale. It is also an ideal time to explore Sentosa Island, one of the most captivating places to visit in Singapore .

2) Shoulder Season : Singapore's shoulder season typically occurs between February and April, as well as September and early November. During this time, visitors can enjoy a balance of favourable weather conditions, making it an ideal time to explore the city-state. Singapore has more moderate temperatures during the shoulder season, with a lower chance of heavy rainfall than during the monsoon season. This creates a pleasant environment for outdoor activities and sightseeing. Furthermore, lodging and other travel-related expenses may be less expensive than during peak tourist season. For those booking a Singapore Tour Package, there are numerous things to do in Singapore , taking advantage of the pleasant weather and potentially more budget-friendly options.

3) Waning Season: October to August is considered to be the waning season during which the prices of accommodations and flights are cheaper. If you are planning a Singapore Tour Package from India during this time, you might be lucky enough to get accommodation at less expensive prices.

Singapore COVID 19 Guidelines

As the Singapore travel guidelines are concerned, the country welcomes tourists from across the world regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status. However, for your safety during Singapore tours, you must wear a mask all the time and also maintain a safe distance. This way, you can make the most of your Singapore holiday without keeping your health at risk.

The best time to visit Singapore depends on the type of experiences and activities you are interested in. Singapore is one of the few places in the world that you can visit anytime for tourism purposes. So, you can pack your bags and set out for your journey to this beautiful city-state whenever your schedule opens up. However, if you want to learn about the traditionally considered best season to visit Singapore, check out the following points;

Peak season in Singapore

The peak season for tourism in Singapore comes in two phases. The first being from November to January and the second being from June to July. These are the months when the region experiences a massive surge in its tourist crowd. The weather remains quite pleasant through these months, offering visitors ideal opportunities for various outdoor activities besides Singapore sightseeing. Another reason that draws international visitors to this city-state during these months is the local festivals and events. This includes grand occasions and celebrations like Deepavali, Thimithi, ZoukOut, New Year, The Great Singapore Sale, Singapore Food Festival, etc. All these make these months the best time to visit Singapore for holidays. Even though the weather stays pretty clear for the most part, you may experience some rain, especially between November and December. Make sure to reserve hotels, flights and restaurants in advance, as it is the peak season for Singapore tourism .

Shoulder season in Singapore

The months between the two peak season phases are usually regarded as the shoulder season for Singapore tourism. It mainly stretches from February to May, and the weather stays quite dry and hot for the most part. However, the fall in tourist crowds during the shoulder season is not a drastic one. It is still a great time to visit Singapore if you are looking for great deals on flights, hotels, transfers and other services. Besides, tourists can also attend various events and festivals when travelling to Singapore between the shoulder season months, such as the Chinese New Year celebrations, Chingay Parade, Singapore International Jazz Festival, Affordable Art Fair, Vesak Day, etc.

Low season in Singapore

The low season in Singapore covers the months of August, September and October. The main reason for the dip in tourist crowds is due to the high temperature and humidity levels. It slightly affects sightseeing, city exploration and other outdoor activities, which can be a dealbreaker for many tourists. Even though the eastern side of this city-state stays dry, you can expect to see rain showers on the western side. The temperatures become quite pleasant towards the end of October, and you can secure some great deals on transfers and accommodations during this period. Many consider September the best month to visit Singapore because of the Singapore Grand Prix.

To have a memorable Singapore holiday, you must be very sure about the mode of transport that you are choosing. Although the best and the most convenient way to reach Singapore is by air, you can also choose the other option if you have time in hand. Depending on the mode of transport you decide to go for, you can choose from the Singapore tourism packages. So, let us discuss them at length.

  • By air :  You can catch a flight to Changi Airport in Singapore from most of the cities in India. Over the years, due to Singapore tourism, the frequency of flights from India has increased. Therefore, you will have no problem getting a flight from India to Singapore. The usual time taken on a flight from India to Singapore is 5 hours and 35 minutes. You can find flights included in most of the Singapore tour packages offered by SOTC, while in some Singapore tourism packages it is optional. Also, you can find Singapore packages from Delhi , Kolkata, Mumbai, etc., on our page.
  • By road :  You can travel to Singapore even by road. However, you need to know that the travel time is going to be long; thus, you would need to have time in your hands for the Singapore holidays. You have to travel through the India-Myanmar Friendship road.  As you take this route, you have to drive via Bangkok in Thailand to Malaysia. And from Malaysia, you can either rent a car or you can book your bus tickets to travel to Singapore. If you rent a car, you can avoid immigration or customs. From Larkin Bus Terminal in Johor Bahru, you can get a specially licensed taxi. On the other hand, if you travel by bus, you have to stand in a queue to get your passport checked. You mostly would not find this option included in the Singapore packages.

As you come across the Singapore tour packages in SOTC's website, you will find many places included in them. You can either choose from the Singapore tourism packages depending on the destinations that you plan to visit or can also cover the nearest places to those destinations. These are some of the places to visit during Singapore tours. Check out the best places to visit in during your Singapore trip
