How to Get a UK Tourist Visa from UAE

The application process for a UK tourist visa mainly involves an online application form and an appointment at a visa application centre. First, you have to choose from the pool of different types of UK visas and determine the kind of visa that suits your requirement as a tourist from UAE. The following step-by-step guidelines shall help you navigate the process of getting a UK tourist visa from start to end.

1. Determine Your Required Visa Type

Different types of uk visas.

There are numerous types of UK visas depending on your nationality, purpose of visit, duration of stay, and personal circumstances and skills. There are standard visitor visas, work visas, student visas, marriage visitor visas, family visas, ancestry visas etc. However, there are three possible visa options for a tourist to consider and determine the suitable one.

– Visa Not Required

The first thing to determine is whether you need a visa to enter the UK. Depending on your nationality, as per your passport, you might not require a visa at all. For example, if you are a Canadian national residing in the UAE, you are exempted from the visa requirement to travel to the UK for a stay shorter than 6 months. Similarly, citizens of the USA, EU member states, and certain commonwealth countries do not need a visa to stay in the UK for no longer than 6 months.

You can check whether you require a visa to enter the UK here .

– Electronic Visa Waiver

Instead of a Standard Visitor Visa, nationals of some middle-eastern countries, including the UAE, have the option to enter the UK with an Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW) . The UK Electronic Visa Waiver, a digital alternative to regular visitor visas, can be availed by the nationals of the following countries if their stay is no longer than six months for tourism, business, study, or medical treatment:

  • Saudi Arabia
  • United Arab Emirates

If you are a national of one of the six countries mentioned above and residing in UAE, the easiest option is to go for an Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW).

– Standard Visitor Visa

Suppose you belong neither to any nationalities exempted from the UK visa requirement nor to the nationalities that can avail of an Electronic Visa Waiver. In that case, you must get a Standard Visitor Visa to travel to the UK as a tourist. Those eligible for an Electronic Visa Waiver can also get a UK Standard Visitor Visa. You can usually stay up to 6 months in the UK with a standard visitor visa. However, in certain circumstances like academics and medical treatment, you might be permitted to stay longer than six months.

To get a UK Standard Visitor Visa, you must apply online and attend an appointment at a visa application centre before you travel to the UK. Suppose you plan to visit the UK as a tourist regularly. In that case, you may opt for the long-term standard visitor visa, which will help you avoid the visa application process each time you travel, although the maximum stay per visit would remain 6 months.

The earliest you can apply for a visitor visa is three months before your journey. You should begin your visa application process as soon as possible to relax and prepare for your travel comfortably.

A Comprehensive Guide to Obtaining a UK Tourist Visa from the UAE: Step-by-Step Process

Dreaming of exploring the majestic landscapes and rich history of the United Kingdom is a common desire for many travelers worldwide. From the iconic landmarks of London to the picturesque countryside of Scotland, the UK offers a wealth of experiences waiting to be discovered. However, before embarking on your journey, it's essential to navigate the visa application process, especially if you're traveling from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Visa Guy is here to simplify this process with a comprehensive step-by-step guide to obtaining a UK tourist visa from the UAE.

Step 1: Determine Your Required Visa Type

The first step in obtaining a UK tourist visa is to determine the appropriate visa type based on your nationality, purpose of visit, and duration of stay. The UK offers various visa options, including standard visitor visas, electronic visa waivers, and visa exemptions for certain nationalities. Understanding which visa category you fall under will streamline the application process and ensure compliance with immigration regulations.

For travelers from the UAE, there are three primary visa options to consider:

Visa Not Required: Some nationalities, such as Canadian citizens residing in the UAE, are exempt from the UK visa requirement for short stays of up to six months.

Electronic Visa Waiver (EVW): Nationals of select Middle Eastern countries, including the UAE, have the option to enter the UK with an Electronic Visa Waiver for tourism, business, study, or medical treatment purposes.

Standard Visitor Visa: If you do not qualify for visa exemption or the EVW program, you will need to apply for a Standard Visitor Visa to travel to the UK as a tourist. This visa allows stays of up to six months and requires an online application and biometric appointment at a visa application center.

Step 2: Gather the Required Documents

Once you've determined the appropriate visa type, the next step is to gather the necessary documents for your visa application. These documents serve as evidence of your eligibility and intention to visit the UK for tourism purposes. While the specific requirements may vary depending on your individual circumstances, there are several key documents that all applicants must provide:

  • Passport : Ensure your passport is valid for the duration of your stay in the UK and has at least one blank page for the visa vignette.
  • Proof of Accommodation: Provide evidence of where you will be staying during your visit, such as hotel reservations, host invitations, or rental agreements.
  • Proof of Financial Means : Demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to cover your expenses while in the UK, including bank statements or proof of earnings.
  • Proof of Travel History: Submit previous travel documents or passports to illustrate your travel history.
  • Proof of Legal Residence: If you are not a UAE national, provide documents confirming your legal residence in the UAE.
  • Proof of Employment/Education Status: Depending on your employment or education status, provide relevant documents such as employer letters or student enrollment certificates.
  • Additionally, travelers under 18 years old may need to provide documents demonstrating their relationship with their parents or guardians, while sponsored applicants must provide proof of sponsorship and the sponsor's legal residence in the UK.

Step 3: Understand the UK Visa Application Fee

Before submitting your visa application, it's essential to understand the associated fees for the UK tourist visa. The cost of the visa varies depending on the type and duration of the visa, as well as any additional services or processing options you may choose.

By understanding the visa fees upfront, you can budget accordingly and ensure a smooth application process.

Step 4: Complete the Online Application Form

Once you've gathered all the required documents, the next step is to complete the online application form for your UK tourist visa. The online application form is available on the official website of the UK government's visa and immigration services. This form collects essential information about your identity, travel history, and purpose of visit to the UK.

When filling out the online application form, it's crucial to provide accurate and consistent information to avoid delays or complications in processing your visa. Be prepared to answer questions about your personal details, passport information, travel plans, and immigration history. You can save your progress and return to the form later if needed, but ensure all sections are completed fully before submission.

To avoid common mistakes, consider seeking assistance from a visa consultancy service like Pelican Migration Consultants, who can guide you through the application process and ensure all information is correctly entered.

Step 5: Schedule Your Appointment at Visa Application Centre (VAC)

After completing the online application form, the next step is to schedule an appointment at a Visa Application Centre (VAC) for biometric data collection and document submission. This appointment is mandatory for all visa applicants and must be scheduled in advance through the VFS Global website.

To schedule your appointment, follow these steps:

  • Visit the VFS Global website and select the UK Visa Application Centre in the UAE nearest to you.
  • Review the centre's opening hours and regulations before booking your appointment.
  • Enter the required online application credentials and choose a suitable date and time for your appointment.
  • Confirm your appointment and make any necessary payments or bookings for additional services.
  • During your appointment at the Visa Application Centre, you will undergo biometric data collection, including fingerprint scans and a digital photograph. Additionally, you will need to submit your supporting documents and provide any additional information requested by the visa officers.

Step 6: Waiting for the Visa Decision

After attending your appointment at the Visa Application Centre, the waiting period begins for your visa decision. Typically, you can expect to receive a decision within three weeks of your appointment date. However, you may opt for priority services for expedited processing.

During this waiting period, you can track the progress of your visa application online using the reference number provided at the time of submission. Once a decision has been made, you will be notified via email or letter regarding the outcome of your application.

If your visa application is approved, you will receive instructions on collecting your passport with the visa vignette affixed. In the event of a refusal, you will be informed of the reasons for denial and whether you have the option to appeal the decision.

UAE citizens planning to travel to the UK will no longer need a pre-entry visa starting February 1. They are now eligible for the 'Electronic Travel Authorisation' (ETA) scheme, as announced by the UAE Embassy in London on Wednesday.

Emiratis wanting to travel to the UK, can apply via the 'UK ETA' app or on GOV.UK from February 1 to get entry permit, which allows travel for an unlimited number of times for a period of two years for £10 (Approx. Dh47).

"This significant milestone is the result of four years of collaborative effort and a symbol of our commitment to strengthening our deep ties," said the statement from UAE Embassy UK.

"February 1, 2024 marks a new chapter in the relationship between the UAE & UK. Emiratis wanting to visit the UK will now be eligible for the new ‘Electronic Travel Authorisation’ (ETA) scheme."

UAE nationals, along with Bahrainis, Jordanians, Kuwaitis, Omani, and Saudi citizens visiting the UK on or after February 22, will only need a new ETA. They can apply for this starting Thursday, February 1.

Visitors will benefit from smooth and efficient travel by applying for an ETA in advance. The application process will be quick, light touch and entirely digital, with most visitors applying via a mobile app and receiving a swift decision on their application.

An ETA is not a visa; it does not permit entry into the UK but authorises an individual to travel to the UK. On arrival, an individual will still need to obtain leave to enter, as per the process now, by seeing a Border Force Officer or using an eGate if eligible to do so.

The scheme is in line with the approach many of the UK’s international partners have taken to border security, including the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, they added.

As part of the application process, individuals will need to provide biometric details and answer a set of suitability questions. This will ensure UK officials have information on those seeking to come to the UK helping to prevent dangerous individuals, such as criminals, entering the UK.

Everything you need to know about getting a tourist visa for Dubai

It’s fairly easy….

Thinking of visiting Dubai, but you’re not sure how to get a tourist visa? Perhaps you already live in this gorgeous city and want to share it with family and friends, but aren’t sure how to go about securing the ever-important visa. For some it’s as easy as showing up at the airport, for others, there is a process that needs to be followed.

Here is everything you need to know about getting a tourist visa for Dubai.

No visa required

Citizens of the GCC areas do not require any sort of visa to enter Dubai. You simply need to provide your passport or your national ID at the point of entry and you will be granted entrance.

Visa on arrival

If you fall into this category, you’re in luck because there are certain countries that can simply arrive at Dubai International Airport and receive a tourist visa, on arrival.

There are a total of 50 countries that receive visas on arrival. Some include The United Kingdom (UK), The United States of America (USA), and countries that are part of the EU. For some countries you will be eligible for a 30-day visa, and for others a 90-day visa, with the possibility of extension.

Indian citizens who are holders of tourist visas from the USA, green cards, or have a residence visa in the UK or EU will also receive a visa on arrival, for 14 days, provided that the green card and residence visas have been valid for more than six months.

If you are a Mexican passport holder, you will be granted a multiple-entry visa on arrival. Your visa is valid for up to 180 days and is valid for six months from the date that the visa has been issued.

The list of countries that are able to attain a tourist visa on arrival in Dubai or the UAE may change from time to time and so you can easily see if you are eligible for a tourist visa on arrival by following the steps here .

Pre-arranged visa

When you do not fall under the above categories that means you need to apply for a tourist visa before you enter Dubai. This can be done in a number of ways.

You can easily apply directly through certain airlines including FlyDubai and Emirates . Alternatively, you can organise a tourist visa through licensed travel agents, tour operators and the hotel you will be staying at.

It is important to note that you cannot apply for a tourist visa through the UAE Embassy, one of the organisers mentioned above will apply for your visa on your behalf through the visa-issuing authorities here in Dubai.
