Kyle Rittenhouse Confronted by Shooting Survivor, Protesters at Kent State

P aul Prediger, the man who survived being shot by Kyle Rittenhouse in 2020, turned up at the latter's scheduled college event to speak out against him on Tuesday.

Rittenhouse made an appearance at Kent State University as part of his series called The Rittenhouse Recap. The appearances have been met with mixed reactions from students . Before arriving at KSU, where a crowd was protesting his appearance, he also faced demonstrations at East Tennessee State University, the University of Memphis, and Western Kentucky University.

Newsweek has contacted Prediger and Rittenhouse's lawyer via email for comment early on Wednesday, outside usual business hours.

The 21-year-old was invited by Turning Point USA 's chapters at four colleges to give a talk about "individual rights, self-defense, and the importance of upholding the rule of law," the conservative group's spokesperson Aubrey Laitsch told Inside Higher Ed in March. Laitsch said the talks are not an official tour, but come after the release of Rittenhouse's book, Acquitted , last year.

Rittenhouse came to public attention in August 2020 when, at the age of 17, he shot and killed two men —Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26—as well as injured then 26-year-old Prediger (formerly Gaige Grosskreutz ), at a protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

Rittenhouse said the three shootings, carried out with a semi-automatic AR-15-style firearm , were in self-defense. The Black Lives Matter (BLM) protest where the shootings took place was held after Jacob Blake , a Black man, was left paralyzed from the waist down after he was shot by a white police officer.

Rittenhouse was acquitted of all charges in November 2021, including charges of first-degree intentional homicide, attempted first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide, and two charges of first-degree recklessly endangering safety. Rittenhouse later said he supported the BLM movement, adding that he was at the demonstration to "protect businesses and provide medical assistance."

In video footage shared on X, formerly Twitter , on Tuesday, Prediger was shown addressing a group of students on the KSU campus when Rittenhouse was also scheduled to make an appearance at the college.

"Since November 2021, I've chosen to remain silent and not speak publicly regarding Kyle Rittenhouse and the events surrounding that night, having [preferred] my anonymity and safety over revisiting a traumatic period in my life," Prediger said in reference to being shot. "But that silence ends today."

Prediger said that while he was "simply trying to live my life and not relive those moments, Kyle Rittenhouse has taken a different path."

"He has used every moment to gloat and to make light of taking life. As if that were not enough, Kyle has embraced—and been embraced by—those who pedal hateful rhetoric, who believe in nationalism that excludes those who do not look like or think like them, and who have sought to amplify a troubling desire for violence against supposed political, cultural, and religious enemies."

Taking a swipe at Rittenhouse's recent business ventures, Prediger told the crowd that he was "not here today at Kent State to sell you a book that somebody else wrote, or full body armor military kits that I didn't design, or a subscription to an anti-woke payment processor, or to sell you the lies [about] BLM. That speaker is across campus today and his name is Kyle Rittenhouse. And, for an extra $37, he'll even autograph his book for you."

"Had Enough"

Prediger said that the purpose of his appearance was to "stand with the students of Kent State who have had enough. Enough of Kyle and his rhetoric. Enough of the celebration of the loss of human life. Enough of the flawed logic that because a 17-year-old, who shot me and killed two others... [and] is now somehow qualified to be a champion of gun rights."

"Enough of the sad fragility that proclaiming and accepting Black Lives Matter—because they do—somehow devalues or threatens white lives. Enough of the lies and the deceit that has been told by Kyle Rittenhouse for over three years about what actually happened in Kenosha, August 25th, 2020."

Prediger urged the students to join him at a venue on the campus for "a hopefully enlightening, teaching experience. Because students deserve an alternative to the hate and division that Kyle Rittenhouse seeks to sow on campus."

Rittenhouse responded to footage of the speech shared on X by posting a clip of Prediger in court, where he was seen admitting to pointing his gun at Rittenhouse before he was shot in 2020.

Newsweek has contacted Prediger and Rittenhouse's lawyer via email for comment.

Prediger's Newsweek Interview

In an interview with Newsweek earlier this month, Prediger—who changed his name in 2022 following what he described as post-trial harassment—criticized the apparent championing of Rittenhouse as something of a Second Amendment hero.

"Objectively, I think he's an idiot," said Prediger, who has filed civil action for the shooting against Rittenhouse. "Unfortunately, he is like a poster boy. He is this young, gun-loving Republican who is going on these speaking tours with [Turning Point USA founder and president] Charlie Kirk."

"I think, at the end of the day, he's a fraud, in the sense of what does Kyle Rittenhouse even know about gun laws, apart from whatever the adults in his life told him? Whether it's his attorneys or fans or other politicians. I mean, I don't think the kid has an original thought at all, and [is] parroting what he's been told. But that's because this is the only group—you know, right-wing extremists—that will accept him."

Stating that Rittenhouse "absolutely [does] not" deserve the platform he has been afforded, Prediger added that "he brings nothing of value to any discussion. And I'm not saying I'm anti-Second Amendment, or any of that. I'm just saying, what does [Rittenhouse] have to add to the conversation about gun control?

"What, because he shot a few people? I think it's just dangerous to put somebody at the forefront who really doesn't know what they're talking about. He has no real-world experience apart from that night. And that doesn't make you an expert [for] talking about gun control. But people who do know what they're talking about and do have an agenda to push, they understand that Rittenhouse will get the clicks, get the views, get the money going in. But I do not believe for one second that anybody takes him seriously."

Prediger said that if he and Rittenhouse ever came face-to-face, he'd likely greet him with "a solid, 'F*** you.' Had you asked me this question two years ago, my response would have been a little more sympathetic, but no. Anything I need to say to him, I'll say at the civil trial—and I don't mean like in a childish, petty kind of way. But there's nothing that I need to say to him personally. It's just my goal to take him down on this trial, and show the world what he is. And I think that'll speak enough within itself."

KENT, Ohio – Forty-two student designers will show off 163 looks at 2024 Annual Fashion Shows at Kent State University’s School of Fashion April 25-27. The three shows will take place in the Kent Student Center Ballroom on the Kent Campus. They close the school’s April 21-27 Fashion Week.

These garments are considered the best of the best. Starting in fall, students work with designers-in-residence work to refine their garments and collections. Industry critics are also brought in to view and critique the students’ work. Then, a panel of industry critics and jurors chose garments for the show. They span categories including evening wear, market ready, universal design and more.

A101 New Town Project – Moscow Masterplan, Russia

Russian Architectural Competition – design by Maxwan

26 Nov 2010

Project A101 Moscow

A101 Out of the Freezer : Largest European New Town Restarts

After having won an international competition, Maxwan in 2007 completed the masterplan for Project A101 in Russia. The A101 new town is located just outside Moscow’s MKAD ring road and is built out on 6,000 hectares of land of the grounds of a former sovchoz. With 320,000 expected inhabitants, A101 is Europe’s single largest urban project in the making.

A101 New Town Project

The project features close to 120,000 new homes in a wide variety of types and sizes. They are planned around 13 mixed-use centres, a large business park (500,000 m2 floor space) and a university. A new light-rail network will connect to Moscow subway lines red and orange. A fine-mazed road network will be put in place. To establish a high level of social infrastructure, the development will include 2 hospitals, 20 health clinics, 60 schools, and 150 kindergartens. Self-sufficiency is the key principle in the vision for A101.

Masshtab, the development company, is currently holding a competition for the detailed design of the first large site (150 hectare, >1 million m2 residential floor space). Four architecture firms have been selected to submit proposals: MVRDV/Next, KCAP, EDDEA and HA&S. The results of the competition will be exhibited in the Museum of Architecture in Central Moscow coming December.

MAXWAN ARCHITECTS + URBANISTS is an international practice dedicated to contemporary architectural and urban design. Working on a broad variety of subjects, Maxwan have designed widely recognized projects such as the “Saw Tooth Tower (Nuilding)” in Rotterdam, the “Office Building F&I” (Maastricht Aachen Airport) and “50 Bridges” for the City of Utrecht.

Maxwan have made a name for themselves internationally with innovative proposals for the new town of Leidsche Rijn (75,000 residents and a hidden highway), the 10,800 houses Master Plan for Barking Riverside, the Master Plan A101 for a new city of 300,000 inhabitants on the fringes of Moscow, the master plan for 2,000 houses in the Dnepr River Delta, Kiev Ukraine and most recently the urban design for the Waalhafen Zone in Rotterdam with in its center “Skill Bill” a new building typology reconnecting the harbour with the city.

We encourage collaboration between clients, colleagues and specialist consultants. In each of our projects, we seek to merge cultural, technical and esthetical influences into an inextricable and beautiful whole.

A101 Urban Block Competition

An open international competition with a total prize fund of 40.000 USD

A101 Urban Block Competition

Masshtab Development Company is announcing a competition for the design of urban blocks for the A101 urban development: a new town of around 150.000 people and 13 million sq m of housing located south of Moscow. The design for this town will be based on the Urban Block concept, developed by curator Bart Goldhoorn. 80% of the blocks in the A101 project will have a standard size. During the development of the area over 500 blocks of these blocks will be built.

At this moment, four well-known architecture firms are working in competition to design a masterplan for the first phase of this development:

MVRDV (NL), KCAP/Next architects (NL), EDDEA (ES) and Hilmer, Sattler, Albrecht (GER)

In the open international Urban Block competition architects are invited to develop a block design that can be used on the plots in the A101 project. A jury will choose winning projects for which a total prize fund of 40.000 USD is available.

All projects that fulfill the minimum requirements of the program will become part of an Urban Block Catalogue and will be considered for realization depending on the location and the stage of development of the project. These projects will be exhibited together with the Masterplan projects in the Museum of Architecture in Central Moscow from December 3 to December 31 2010.

SC State University breaks ground on $57.4 million new academic building

Taylor

“You’ve been neglected. You won’t be neglected anymore” – South Carolina State Rep. Bill Taylor.

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – As South Carolina State University ceremonially broke ground on its new academic building Friday, President Alexander Conyers took note of the unusually large number of shovels used for the occasion.

“That’s because we have a large number of projects that we’re going to be breaking ground on,” Conyers said, alluding to the university’s hopes of receiving more funds to renovate and replace several of the campus’ outdated facilities.

“I know that our students here at South Carolina State University deserve the same level of facilities as students at any other public university in this state. We are going t work hard every single day to continue to do that,” the president said.

If the sentiments expressed by lawmakers from the South Carolina General Assembly who spoke at Friday’s event were any indication, those hopes may be realized in short order.

“We know the needs here at South Carolina State University,” said state Sen. Kent Williams (D-Marion), a 1987 SC State graduate. “We know the challenges you face here each and every day, but we want you to know that you have a voice in Columbia, South Carolina, in the South Carolina General Assembly.”

Friday’s event was to celebrate the addition of SC State’s first fully state-funded academic building in nearly 30 years, the $54.7 million replacement for outmoded Turner Hall.

Adapting a phrase from Winston Churchill – “We shape our buildings, and afterward our buildings shape us” – Conyers described the promise the new academic building holds for faculty, staff and students at SC State.

“This new academic building will shape the next generation of doctors, lawyers, educators from South Carolina State University,” he said. “This new academic building will shape the next 23 generals from South Carolina State University. This new academic building will shape the next 15 university presidents from South Carolina State University to add to the leaders we provide for the nation.”

University officials estimate the new building to encompass 94,000 square feet of classroom, collaborative learning and office space. Conyers expects the project to take 1 ½-2 years to complete, with the current freshman class taking classes as seniors there in 2026-2027.

The project is in the design phase in the hands of Evoke Studios, an architectural firm that also designed the SC State Engineering and Computer Science Complex, which sits across Geathers Street from the future building’s location. Evoke co-founder Teri Canada, described the firm’s collaborative with the university’s leaders and academics. The building will house much of SC State's core curriculum programs.

“What we heard was that we want an iconic building here,” Canada said. “We want it to be an open space for gathering, collaboration and really sort of bringing people together. We want to make sure this is a multifunctional, multidisciplinary space for everything that’s happening on campus.”

Many described Friday’s groundbreaking as a milestone for the campus, its students, its employees and its alumni.

One wing of Turner dates back 95 years. Other portions date back to the mid-1950s. Among those in the ceremony’s audience were three men who attended SC State in that period and witnessed Turner’s completion: Boston Johnson, Class of 1955; Leo Jackson, Class of 1957; and Charles Smalls, Class of 1959.

Also present was a leader in the Class of 2024, Student Government Association President Zaya Cephus, who represented SC State students on the program.

“We are beyond excited for this opportunity for a new space that will provide learning and growth,” Cephus said. “We thank all of those involved in making this project a reality and look forward to a future filled with endless possibilities.”

SC State Board of Trustees Chairman Douglas Gantt also thanked the lawmakers who attended the groundbreaking, noting that the university seated them – Republicans and Democrats side by side – on the front row.

“We gave them the front-row seats for supporting and helping us build this new building for our kids,” Gantt said, “because we all know when all things are fair and equal, the individuals at South Carolina State exceed expectations.”

State Rep. Cobb-Hunter (D-Orangeburg) recognized her colleague on the House Higher Education Subcommittee, Rep. Bill Taylor (R-Aiken) for his role in securing the funding to SC State.

“To have him as an ally and advocate fighting for this institution, for funding this institution, it has been so good to have someone committed to make sure we do what we can and to bring the resources here,” Cobb-Hunter said.

Later in the program, Taylor said a tour he took of the university last year alerted him to the deficiencies in SC State’s facilities. He pointed to the fact, however, that General Assembly had appropriated $85 million for capital projects at SC State in the last two budgets. Those appropriations included the new academic building, the expansion of the Green Student Center and the renovation of Sojourner Truth Hall.

“And we’re not done with this year’s budget,” Turner said. “Money’s coming. You deserve it. You’ve been neglected. You won’t be neglected anymore.”

Senate Minority Leader Brad Hutto (D-Orangeburg) made a similar pledge.

“Orangeburg wouldn’t be Orangeburg but for the Edisto River, but the Orangeburg that we know, the Orangeburg that we’ve lived in wouldn’t be Orangeburg but for South Carolina State University,” Hutto said. “It is the heart and the soul of this town that we call our county seat.

“There are needs, and this will be the first mountain that we climb – the mountain of Turner Hall,” he said. “But you know what the ancient Haitian proverb is -- beyond the mountains, there are more mountains.

“Beyond this building, there are more buildings, and so this will be the beginning,” Hutto said.

In addition to the projects the General Assembly has funded in recent years, the SC State administration has asked the state to allocate funds for a new library, a new convocation center, a new wellness center and the renovation of Nance Hall.

The final legislator on the program was Sen. Vernon Stephens (D-Bowman), a member of the SC State Class of 1980, who echoed Cobb-Hunter’s challenge to alumni to support the university financially.

“Bringing these facilities up to par is our responsibility – not only the General Assembly, but you, you, you and you,” Stephens said pointing to the audience.

Following Stephens was SCSU National Alumni Association President Hank Allen, who noted the importance for alumni to engage with not some but all lawmakers about their alma mater’s needs.

“When we continue to do those things, that’s going to help take our university to the next level,” Allen said.

The first phase of the project will include razing Azalea Hall and moving a small schoolhouse, both of which sit on the new building's site. Following the new building's completion, most if not all of Turner Hall will be demolished.

  • Gorky Central Park of Culture and Recreation, Moscow
  • Guide to Russia

What is the history of Gorky Park?

  • In the pre-revolutionary period, Gorky Park was a city dump and wasteland, which was cleared in 1923 to host the All-Russian Agricultural and Artisan Industrial Exhibition
  • In 1928, a huge park was planned on the former site of the exhibition. It would not just be a place of leisure, but a place to proudly display Soviet culture and daily life
  • Gorky Park has remained a cultural hub ever since, and has been renovated and added to over the years to make it one of Moscow’s top attractions today

Gorky Central Park of Culture and Recreation

Gorky Park is the most famous park of Moscow, created during the Soviet period as a hub for relaxation and cultural activities. The park is beloved by Muscovites and tourists alike, who visit in all seasons to stroll, enjoy sports, admire the park’s attractions, and attend cultural events. Gorky Park is the central part of an ensemble of four green spaces – Muzeon Park of Arts, Neskuchny Garden, and Sparrow Hills Nature Reserve – which curve around the southern bank of the Moskva River to the south-west of Moscow city centre. Here you may spend some time and enjoy nature and contemprary art during your vacation in Moscow .

History of Gorky Park

Imperial russia.

In the 17th century, the eastern bank of the Moskva River beyond Moscow’s city limits was home to floodplain meadows, where palace horses grazed. From the mid-1850s, events such as cockfights, fistfights, and races were held here, and by the 20th century this area had become a city dump where the unemployed and homeless people of Moscow lived, which remained this way until the Soviet period. This wasteland lay in stark contrast to the adjoining Neskuchny Sad – ‘merry garden’ – which lay to its south, an area of aristocratic country estates and elaborate gardens.

Soviet Russia

Following the October Revolution, Vladimir Lenin travelled around Moscow to find a suitable site for the first All-Russian Agricultural and Artisan Industrial Exhibition, which would reveal opportunities for socialist development of agriculture and industry. Lenin decided on the wasteland alongside the Moskva River, which was cleared with a programme of community work. In 1923, the exhibition began. It encompassed 250 pavilions dedicated to different themes of agriculture and industry, and was divided into thematic zones, such as villages, livestock, crops, engineering, railways, republics of the USSR, and foreign countries. The organisation of the exhibition demarcated the future layout and size of Gorky Park, and the paths, ‘zones’, and main square of the exhibition have been preserved until the present day. In March 1928, Moscow City Council decided to establish a park of culture and recreation on the site of the former exhibition, which would also encompass the Neskuchny Garden. Moscow’s residents were instrumental in the construction of the park – they voiced their desires for events spaces, physical education and leisure facilities, and gave up their weekends to build the park. The park’s main architect was Konstantin Melnikov.

Did you know? Konstantin Melnikov also helped to construct Lenin’s Mausoleum and the Rusakov Worker’s Club, one of Moscow’s Constructivist masterpieces .

Over 100,000 Muscovites flocked to the opening of the park on 12th August 1928. The brand-new park was equipped with two theatres, a cinema, nursery, reading room, restaurant and café, music stages, sports arenas, rowing boats, and even a giant helter-skelter slide. Unfortunately, because of the vast size of the crowd and the general excitement, the park was damaged and closed until September.

Did you know? The park was not named after Maxim Gorky, writer and founder of Socialist Realism, until 1933.

In 1929, Betty Glan – at the mere age of 26 – became director of the park. She decided to reconceptualise it, uniting leisure, design, and ideology with the help of Moscow’s most eminent architects, designers and artists. Over the next decade, more cultural venues were established in the park, the Pushkinskaya Embankment along the Moskva River was developed, and the landscaping of the park was carefully cultivated. Architect Alexander Vlasov was particularly influential, and won the Grand Prix at the 1937 World Exhibition in Paris for his design of Gorky Park. This period under Glan’s directorship until 1937 was known as the ‘golden age’ of Gorky Park, which became not just a place for recreation, but a public space where Soviet culture and everyday life could be proudly displayed.

Did you know? During the Second World War topical events were held in Gorky Park, such as the championship in bayonet combat, grenade-throwing competitions, and air defence training. What’s more, an exhibition of captured enemy weapons – tanks, artillery, aeroplanes, and more – was organised in Gorky Park and continually updated throughout the war.

In the post-war decades new attractions were continually added to Gorky Park. These included the majestic 24-metre triumphal arch at the entrance to the park, an astronomical observatory (which remains open today), the famous Ferris wheel (unfortunately dismantled in 2008), and a fountain with lights and music.

The Gorky Park ensemble continued to flourish as a centre of culture and recreation in post-Soviet Russia. The adjoining Muzeon Park of Arts was founded in 1992, and Garage Museum of Contemporary Art was established in Gorky Park in 2008. The ensemble underwent serious reconstruction in 2011. Many new sports facilities were added, including centres for beach sports and extreme sports, bicycle paths and sports equipment rental hubs, and much effort was devoted to reviving original buildings, sculptures, and landscape compositions. Two years later, the embankment of the Moskva River from the southern tip of Zamoskvorechye Island all the way to Sparrow Hills was redeveloped and pedestrianised, making it possible to peacefully walk or cycle along the Moskva for many kilometres.

What can you do at Gorky Park today?

  • Explore the park and see architectural attractions, fountains, and beautiful gardens
  • Visit Garage Museum of Contemporary Art and the Gorky Park Museum
  • Go boating on the lakes and stroll down the Pushkinskaya Embankment
  • Rent bicycles or scooters, skateboard, and visit the sports centres

What can you do at Gorky Park?

Park attractions.

While exploring the treelined paths of Gorky Park, you’ll come across a number of attractions. To the west of the main entrance, near the river, is a beautiful geometric bandstand used for music and literary evenings in the Soviet period. As you head down the central alley of Gorky Park from the main entrance, you’ll see a statue of Maxim Gorky on your right, and discover the light and music fountain with its dancing jets of water – find the schedule of its performances here .

Did you know? Don’t be afraid to feed the red squirrels and birds you encounter on your walk around Gorky Park – there are even vending machines which sell special food for the animals!

The southern section of Gorky Park is occupied by the Golitsynsky Garden. In 1802, the Golitsyn Hospital was founded here as a hospital for the poor; it still adjoins Gorky Park today. Gardens were created as a relaxation place for patients, extending from the hospital building to the riverbank, and included landscaped gardens, a Chinese Bridge, and two ponds. On the riverbank is the Rotunda of the Golitsyn Hospital, which has been preserved since the 19th century. There is also a rose garden and fountain by the Bolshoi Golitsynsky Pond.

Did you know? In the Golitsynsky Garden is also located an unusual architectural monument – a public toilet designed by Alexander Vlasov in the 1930s, which is recognised as an ‘object of cultural heritage’!

Outdoor activities

Gorky Central Park of Culture and Recreation

Gorky Park’s extensive and varied grounds aren’t only good for walks! You can relax on the water by renting boats to sail on the Pionersky and Bolshoi Golitsynsky Ponds, or visiting the Olivkovy Beach on the Pushkinskaya Embankment to sunbathe. As well as this, you can hire bicycles, electric scooters, longboards or even roller skates to explore the park and embankments, play table tennis, visit the sports complex to play football, basketball, handball, badminton or volleyball, or visit the Vans skatepark or Nike sports centre for workouts and classes such as rooftop yoga.

Visit the Gorky Park Museum, located in the left pier of the entrance arch. The current exhibition is dedicated to Gorky Park in the ‘golden age’ of the 1930s, and shows the development of Moscow’s central park through the eyes of Betty Glan. There is an observation deck on top of the arch, which offers a lovely view over the park and Moscow’s skyline.

Did you know? In the entrance arch there is also a gift shop where you can purchase balls, frisbees, blankets, and other items to enjoy your visit to Gorky Park.

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art

Garage Museum

Food and drink

There are plenty of excellent cafes and restaurants dotted around Gorky Park, where you can stop for a quick coffee or enjoy a long meal with a view. They include the stylish lakeside café Ostrovok (Little Island) and upmarket restaurant Vremena Goda (Seasons) which serve European and Russian food, colourful lakeside Thai restaurant Lebedinoe Ozero (Swan Lake), trattoria Merkato with its huge summer terrace, restaurant Syrovarnya (Cheese Factory) with a menu focused on its homemade cheese, food-truck court Restoparking which is stylised as a drive-in café, and ice-cream and tea shop Chaynaya Vysota.

What’s nearby?

Gorky Park is bordered by Muzeon Park of Arts, Neskuchny Garden, and Sparrow Hills Nature Reserve. This huge ensemble curves for eight kilometres along the bank of the Moskva River, providing a beautiful oasis of green in Europe’s biggest city.

Muzeon Park of Arts

Muzeon Park

Photo from  https://new-magazine.ru/

Muzeon Park of Arts is the largest open-air sculpture museum in Russia, home to 1,000 sculptures by Soviet and Russian sculptors, including those by famous artists. A large part of Muzeon is occupied by the New Tretyakov Gallery , which houses Russia’s most complete exhibition of national art from the 20th century to the present day. The pedestrianised Krymskaya Embankment which extends alongside Muzeon has recently undergone redevelopment, and is one of Moscow’s most popular spots to relax.

Neskuchny Garden

Neskuchny Garden is the oldest park in Moscow, founded in 1728 by Prince Nikita Trubetskoy, who threw fantastic festivities in his manor house and gardens – neskuchny means ‘merry’ in Russian. Many other noble families also built their country estates in this area, which became a public park and garden after being acquired by the royal family. Today, the Neskuchny Garden is home to historical buildings, fountains, and gardens from the 18th and 19th centuries, sports facilities, an open-air theatre, and a huge greenhouse which supplies flowers to Gorky Park.

Sparrow Hills

Sparrow Hills Nature Reserve is a huge forest park lining the steep bank of the Moskva River and the only specially protected nature area near the city centre. It is home to ecological trails, ponds, natural springs, rare species of plants and animals, many spots for picnicking, cafes, and a mini zoo. At the bottom of the park lie the Vorobyovskaya and Andreevskaya Embankments, with promenades along the Moskva River, a beach, and piers offering boat trips. As with Gorky Park, Sparrow Hills is hugely popular for sports and outdoor activities in all seasons. A new winter sports complex with snowboarding, ice skating, and ski tracks and jumps is currently under construction. When the weather is pleasant, you can rent a bicycle to ride the 8 kilometres along the river from Muzeon to Sparrow Hills.
