Ratings and Reviews

Be nice to get an iPhone notification when road opens up.
Map generally functions like always and maybe a bit better. Camera function is cumbersome to use. Must scroll through many to find the set you want. Haven’t found a way to select ‘favorites’ to cut back on that time waster. Sometimes the old way is still the best way.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for your feedback. In the Cameras tab you can use the "Edit / Save Filter..." button (previously "More Filters...") to customize which cameras are shown, and make it your initial view. You can get a larger view of any camera by rotating to landscape mode, though zooming in further is not currently supported.

Pretty good

One shortfall. Major accident on highway 2 not shown. Otherwise pretty good. Suddenly, out of the blue, completely stopped working. I had to delete. I looked at trying it again, but apparently it requires iCloud. Since I refuse to get iCloud it won’t happen.

New interstate to run through North Dakota

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - There are plans to build a new interstate, named I-27, that will run through the middle of the country, from the Texas Basin all the way to Canada. It will branch off into North Dakota along the Theodore Roosevelt Expressway.

Congress earmarked the funds in 2022, although there’s no definitive timetable to start construction.

But how will the new four-lane interstate benefit North Dakota’s economy and its people?

“We produce a lot of things we don’t consume here, so giving our ag producers and our energy producers more options to get their products to market and lower that transportation cost means they get to keep a little more money in their pocket and it doesn’t get chewed up in expenses,” said North Dakota Congressman Kelly Armstrong.

North Dakota has received a $55 million federal grant toward the project and is seeking more funding.

CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Man attacks woman in Las Vegas road rage incident

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - A woman is asking the public for help to find a suspect who attacked her during a road rage incident Sunday.

The victim, Sarah Goolsby, spoke to FOX5 about what she remembers about the attack. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is currently searching for the suspect.

Video shows Goolsby already knocked down on the side of the road. The suspect starts walking away, but goes back to hit the woman again after she gets up. She said the incident happened on Rainbow going south toward Spring Mountain.

“I thought it was maybe an emergency, had a seizure, lost consciousness. I didn’t know that he was angry until he got out of the car and starts coming toward me,” said Sarah Goolsby. “But I’m not thinking it’s going to end up like that, I’m thinking it’s going to be like, ‘Watch where you’re going, you almost hit me.’”

She says that a police officer drove by the scene and did not stop, but did return to check on her. She also said that she’s thankful that her two children were not with her in the car at the time.

“Would I call the cops and wait for them to show up?” she said. “The way that he was enraged, he would have probably busted the window out and it wouldn’t have mattered.”

Safety Talk: Safely sharing the road

by Risk Management and Safety

June 17, 2024

Graphic June is National Safety Month photo of Hesburgh Library and person on a bike.

Numerous factors play a role in ensuring our safety and the safety of others while on the road. By staying alert and learning how to navigate the roads safely alongside others, you increase your chances of steering clear of dangerous circumstances.

BICYCLISTS Bike riding goes beyond just a pastime, as for some, it serves as their primary means of transportation. While cyclists are generally not allowed on freeways and interstate highways, they are permitted on all types of roads, big or small, in accordance with state and local laws. To ensure cyclist safety: ● Show consideration — Bicyclists typically have the same rights and responsibilities as motor vehicles. ● Be courteous — Allow ample space and give cyclists room to maneuver. ● Practice patience — Respect their space and overtake carefully. ● Stay vigilant — Extend your arm when opening a car door to ensure cyclist safety. WORK ZONES Highway work zones can pose challenges to drivers. Practice courteous and cautious navigation. Here are several factors to keep in mind while driving in work zones: ● Workers and construction activities might extend into driving lanes. ● Many states enforce move-over laws for emergency and hazard vehicles; drivers must either move over or reduce speed to provide them with adequate space. Hazards could exist even when no construction is ongoing; watch out for significant edge drop-offs, uneven pavement, sharp turns and outdated pavement markings. ● Construction vehicles will enter and exit work zones at slow speeds and from unexpected locations.

BLIND SPOTS IN LARGE VEHICLES Areas around a truck that are difficult for the driver to see are known as blind spots, and they can increase the risk of collisions with other vehicles. ● When driving behind a tractor-trailer, maintain a distance that allows you to see both outside mirrors. If you can’t see both mirrors, the driver can’t see you. ● When you pass a larger vehicle, wait until you can see its front tires on the pavement in your inside rearview mirror before merging back in. ● Be aware that larger vehicles require more space to turn. If a vehicle signals a right turn, remain behind it, clear of the curb, until the turn is finished. ● Remember, larger and faster vehicles take longer to come to a stop.

MOTORCYCLISTS To prevent motorcycle collisions, drivers should: ● Drive defensively. ● Cooperate with motorcyclists. ● Use courtesy and obey the law. ● Apply the “what-if” strategy. ● Maintain a safe following distance.

By driving safely and defensively, drivers can reduce traffic collisions and violations.

SCHOOL BUSES When you see a school bus, that means children may be nearby. When approaching a school bus keep these actions in mind: ● Reduce speed. ● Be prepared for children. ● Cover the brake. ● Note that amber lights mean the bus is about to stop. ● Stop for red lights and extended stop arm. Do not pass a school bus with flashing red lights or stop arm. Check state laws for specific regulations on divided roadways.

Diverging diamond interchange at CO 21 Powers Boulevard and Airport Road

Travel advisory.

Colorado Springs  — The Colorado Department of Transportation with its contract partner WW Clyde, will start a major construction project in east Colorado Springs next week to replace the existing Powers Boulevard (Colorado Highway 21 / US Highway 24) and Airport Road intersection with a diverging diamond interchange.

Construction activity will take place adjacent to the highway with minor traffic impacts on Powers Boulevard and Airport Road during the first year of construction. The project is expected to be completed in late 2026.

“The new interchange will be built north of the existing signalized intersection without disturbing current traffic patterns during most of the construction. This is one of the Region’s busiest intersections and keeping traffic moving outside of Peterson Space Force Base is essential,” said CDOT Region 2 Transportation Director Shane Ferguson.

This project will realign Airport Road, improve the Airport Road and Stewart Avenue intersection, and add pedestrian and bicycle facilities. Work includes bridge and ramp construction, placing embankment, concrete paving, overhead sign structure installation, new traffic signals and permanent water quality ponds.

The DDI design was selected for this location to address congestion, improve safety, and add multimodal facilities that will allow for a safer and more comfortable travel experience for cars, pedestrians and cyclists. Similar interchanges have been constructed at Fillmore Street and I-25, Research Parkway and Powers Boulevard in Colorado Springs and other locations across Colorado.

When driving a DDI, motorists proceed through a traffic signal upon entering the interchange and simply follow their lane to the opposite side of the roadway. Drivers needing to access I-25 from CO 60 will turn left at the on-ramp without having to stop again or wait for oncoming traffic to pass. Through traffic proceeds to a second traffic signal and follows the lane back to the customary side of the road.

In addition, left-turn movements, which are a typical challenge with standard interchanges, are eliminated with a DDI, which minimizes T-bone type accidents.

Drivers can view the video below on how to drive a DDI for more detailed information: Diverging Diamond Interchange Video

Additional Benefits of DDI

  • Reduces delays using a two-phase signal as opposed to a traditional four or six-phase signal
  • Requires fewer lanes but can handle more traffic capacity
  • Reduces conflict points at intersections
  • Improves pedestrian crossing safety with easier access to medians
  • Increases left-turn capacity
  • Eliminates wrong-way entry to ramps
  • Costs less than a typical free-flow interchange utilizing single directional flyover ramps

Traffic Impacts

Motorists and area residents can expect the following impacts during construction:

  • Daytime work hours Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m
  • Saturday work can be expected
  • Intermittent lane closures and traffic shifts
  • Infrequent overnight closures to set bridge girders
  • Trucks entering and exiting the work zone
  • Speed reductions and width restriction are possible
  • Construction schedule is weather dependent

Part of Wyoming highway collapses in landslide, blocking crucial transit route

By Emily Mae Czachor

Updated on: June 10, 2024 / 3:23 PM EDT / CBS News

Part of Teton Pass, a crucial highway weaving through the mountains of western Wyoming, collapsed Saturday morning in a massive landslide that severed the primary transit route between two cities in the region. Officials said they expect the road will remain closed long-term, potentially jeopardizing almost half the workforce in and around the tourist hubs of Jackson Hole, Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Park.

Crews were still examining the site on Monday to determine whether it would be possible to construct some kind of interim road for travelers in place of the collapsed section of the highway. The Wyoming Department of Transportation said that current evaluations from engineers and geologists suggested they would be able to build a temporary detour around the landslide. According to transportation officials, that detour could be open to the public as soon as a few weeks from now.

"Currently, WYDOT geologists and engineers are confident they can build a safe, temporary detour around the slide area using local fill material and paving two temporary lanes," the agency said in a social media post.

‼ IMPORTANT TETON PASS UPDATE ‼ Teton Pass road closure continues, interim detour planned WYDOT Teton County closed access to Wyoming State Highway 22/ Teton Pass due to a landslide at milepost 12.8 and a mudslide at milepost 15. Commuters have been asked to detour around using US 26 through Swan Valley and then into the Snake River Canyon. WYDOT crews are currently evaluating the stability of the area and investigating adjacent areas for potential safety hazards. This is being considered an extended closure, and there currently is no estimated opening date. WYDOT crews have been working closely with other agencies and partners to secure the area and explore potential interim access, as well as long term reconstruction options. Currently, WYDOT geologists and engineers are confident they can build a safe, temporary detour around the slide area using local fill material and paving two temporary lanes. They are hoping to have a temporary detour open to the public, likely with some strict weight and width restrictions, in a few weeks. “I want to express my gratitude to WYDOT Director Westby and his entire team for their efforts to rapidly develop and implement a plan to get traffic moving over Teton Pass again as quickly as possible,” Governor Mark Gordon said. Geologists and engineers are evaluating the area and putting together a long term plan to rebuild the road. There is no current estimated timeline for that construction. WYDOT will be flying the area with a survey plane and doing some geological drilling in preparation for the reconstruction. WYDOT is working closely with the US Forest Service to provide access to recreation areas outside the slide area, despite the road closure. Agencies are collaborating to place signage on the road to allow users to access campsites unaffected by both the landslide at milepost 12.8 and the mudslide at milepost 15. Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National park remain open for visitors. Crews continue to manage the mudslide at milepost 15, and geologists and engineers are working on a plan to provide more drainage to the affected area by installing a box culvert. They are planning to do this work simultaneously with the temporary detour work at milepost 12.8. The work is dependent on availability of crews and materials, but WYDOT’s goal is to have this work completed when the temporary detour at 12.8 is ready for limited traffic. Governor Mark Gordon has issued an Executive Order declaring an emergency in response to both the mudslide at milepost 15 and the landslide at milepost 12.8. The declaration will help the state access additional resources from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to begin the substantial repairs required. WYDOT is thankful for the quick responsiveness and support from other government agencies, including the US Forest Service and the Idaho Transportation Department, which has allowed WYDOT to mobilize quickly with planning and repairs. "WYDOT’s response through this crisis demonstrates the commitment, passion and ingenuity of our crews,” said WYDOT director Darin Westby. “We certainly want to thank the Governor, the Federal Highway Administration, the Idaho Transportation Department, the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security, Evans Construction and the US Forest Service for their quick response, teamwork and dependability in our time of need.” The video below shows the highway in 2023 compared to what it looked like June 8. (reporters, we now have a media kit available: https://www.dot.state.wy.us/home/news_info/media-kits.html ) Posted by WYOMING DEPT. OF TRANSPORTATION on Monday, June 10, 2024

The update came as concerns mounted over the possible economic implications of the Teton Pass collapse. After it happened, Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon declared a state of emergency in hopes that federal funding would allow the state to access the resources required to begin permanent repairs on the highway, which officials have said are "substantial."

The Teton County branch of the transportation department initially  announced  early Saturday that the road at milepost 12.8 on Teton Pass had "catastrophically failed," and shared several images on social media that showed the extent of the damage. Officials said crews were trying to build a detour around the initial collapse when the landslide broke down further and effectively destroyed a whole section of the surrounding highway. No one was injured.

"WYDOT is now reviewing a long term solution and repairs, and more information on planning efforts will be available soon," the department said in their announcement. At the time, crews were also working to clear debris from another mudslide at the 15th mile mark on Teton Pass.

The roadway at milepost 12.8 on Teton Pass, has catastrophically failed, and a long term closure is expected. WYDOT... Posted by WYDOT Teton County on  Saturday, June 8, 2024

Carved into the Teton mountain range and running for about 17 miles, Teton Pass is the only direct route between Victor, Idaho, and Jackson, Wyoming. Despite being notoriously treacherous at certain times of year, and typically closed during those times because of weather-related safety concerns, the highway provides vital access to Teton County, which includes Jackson, Yellowstone and Grand Teton, for workers who commute there from eastern Idaho.

"We understand this highway is a lifeline for commuters, deliveries, medical care access and tourism, especially with limited alternatives and the summer season upon us," said Darin Westby, the director of the Wyoming Department of Transportation, in a  statement after the collapse. "WYDOT engineers, surveyors and geologists mobilized quickly to try to maintain highway viability as long as possible, but catastrophic failure could not be avoided."

Westby said the Transportation Department was "decisively engaged on fixing the road and restoring connectivity to the Teton Valley."

In a study completed last January on the safety of the Teton Pass corridor, the Federal Highway Administration acknowledged that the highway "offers a critical connection for commuters and recreationists traveling from Victor, Idaho, and Jackson, Wyoming." The trip, from one end to the other, would ordinarily take around 30 minutes or so in a car, or slightly longer on public transit . Because of the steep mountain landscape, alternate routes send travelers on a lengthy detour that takes roughly three times as long and covers some 85 miles.

The Jackson Hole Travel and Tourism Board said businesses in the city, as well as Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, would all remain open in a message shared on its website in the wake of the Teton Pass collapse. The board also recognized that closing the highway indefinitely will likely have consequences for workers living in Idaho and commuting to Teton County, who make up about 40% of the county's workforce, according to that message.

"Although businesses will do their best to support employees and commuters, and will work to remain open and maintain normal operating hours and services, it is expected that the workforce will be affected," the travel and tourism board said. "As a community, we ask visitors and locals to exercise patience and understanding if you experience longer than normal wait times or interruptions in services."
