Group Information

What is the minimum number of people you will pick up.

There is no minimum restriction to book so singles and couples can book tours, but there is a minimum number of people needed to run tours effectively.

We do our best to make sure every tour runs, which sometimes means shuffling minimum numbers together so tours can operate.

We need to group together at least  4 people (minimum number shown on each tour) for it to operate.

Do you take parties like a 40th or 50th?

Yes. A day tour with your friends enjoying drinks and tasty food is one of the most enjoyable but hassle free ways to celebrate a birthday. We take care of the details and let us know if you would like something extra special too!

What size groups can you cater too?

Each tour vehicle contains passengers from multiple bookings until it is filled to the ‘maximum guest limit’ (shown on each tour). This limit keeps our group small so it’s fast and fun with premium access.

A tour will operate when a minimum of four seats are booked. If there are only four seats booked, great you will have the tour all to yourselves in one of our smaller vehicles. The more a tour fills up, the bigger the vehicle we use until our maximum guest limit for that tour is reached.

If you would like a completely private tour for two, or, have a larger group than the ‘maximum guest limit’ please contact us for options.

We can cater to larger groups by combining multiple vehicles for any tour.

Sydney Transfers

• SYDNEY direct transfers  are not available.
• To arrive from Sydney  customers can catch the train between ‘Sydney-Newcastle-Maitland’ and request a Two Fat Blokes pick-up/drop-off at ‘Maitland’.

Transfer Fee Information

• Flat rate  is a single price for pick-up/drop-off at that location whether it’s two people or a full group of people.
• Minimum 2 person pickup  is required to operate the pickup service to fee based locations.
• Fees are in addition  to your tour booking and will be collected by your guide at time of pick-up. Please pay these fees by cash, ATM’s will be available on the tour.

How long will we spend at each winery?

There is no set time. Some winery experiences take longer than others. The average is about 45min – 1hour at each winery.

How do you determine which wineries are best for my group?

Because we know the area so well and try to deliver the best experiences based on: – Rave reviews from previous tour groups – Boutique, non-touristy locations – Excellent wines, moderately priced – Warm & friendly service – Perks available (cellar tours, barrel-tasting, wine-maker available, etc.)

Which wineries do we visit?

There is no set schedule of wineries. Our tour guides will take advantage of the best winery experiences available on that day, including special events, to make sure you get the most value from your itinerary, have an enjoyable day and maximise your taste time of the Hunter Valley.

Full day tours to the Hunter Valley wineries will be one for your diary, your personal tour guide and driver will take you to visit some of the best and most renowned vineyards. You’ll travel in our air-conditioned buses and visit four different wineries along the way – taking in the sights and tasting the wines. We stop for lunch before returning to your wine tour. We’ll pick your group up form your door and drop you off at the end fo the day. We normally have time for 3 wineries within our half day packages.

Yes! On our $195 packages we include lunch. This will often be at a local restaurant/pub.

How long will we spend at each winery?

It all depends! To be safe, we normally say 1 hour. Although we’ll be accomodating through the whole trip!

Can You Pick Me Up From Newcastle?

Our tours pick you up from your front door and drop you back at the end of the day, enjoy a full day out in the hunter knowing your transport to and from is covered.

Can I bring My Dog?

Yes! Although your fur babies can’t drink wine, it doesn’t mean they can’t enjoy the serene beauty of the hunter. Bring them along to experience the best wineries and breweries.

Are there any winery tasting fees?

All our tours are fully inclusive. All wineries fees and lunch costs are packaged in your price. The only additional cost you will incur is if you wish to purchase bottles of wine from the selected wineries.

Our 4 hour half day private Hunter Valley wine tours operate daily between 10am and 5pm.

Our tour prices include transport to and from your accommodation in the Pokolbin, and Cessnock area for your wine tour. If you are staying outside these areas extra fees may apply.

CAN I BRING CHILDREN ON THE TOUR?

Vintage Connections tours are Child friendly Hunter Valley wine tours. Your child/children will be welcome. We have current police working with Children check and qualified experience at interacting with Children. We will provide some coloring pencils and materials, as well as a few snacks and drinks when Children are on the tour. The presence of children may have an effect on venue choice as not all venues provide for a child friendly atmosphere. The enjoyment of your whole group is our priority.

A child safety and/or booster seat can be provided.

CAN I BRING MY PET ON THE TOUR?

Bringing your pet on tour is feasible. Talk with us and we will see what we can do. We also have some great connections to pet friendly accommodations. Vintage Connections can provide pet friendly private wine tours, if conditions are met.

CAN I SMOKE ON THE TOUR?

Many venues have designated smoking areas and provision will be made for your needs. As you would expect smoking is not allowed in the vehicle.

CAN I SELECT WHAT CELLAR DOORS TO VISIT?

Booking a private wine tour with Vintage Connections means you will have complete flexibility. Otherwise your itinerary will be supplied by Vintage connections, with sensitivity to all tour guests.

CAN I HAVE AN OPEN ALCOHOL CONTAINER IN THE VEHICLE?

In NSW open alcohol containers are not permitted on public transport, or in taxis. The policy of Vintage Connections is to adhere to this same standard. A refrigerated bottle of high quality spring water will always be available.

Explore the highlights of the scenic Hunter Valley in this packed Half Day Tour (operates morning and afternoon), visiting a trio of different venues for a range of tasting experiences that will be sure to please the wine, cheese and spirit lovers!

• Meet your local expert Driver/Guide with complimentary return transfers commencing at 9:15am for a 10:00am start (morning tour) OR 2:15pm for a 3:00pm start (afternoon tour) at the first venue from; Lovedale, Pokolbin, Cessnock, Nulkaba and Rothbury. Contact us if staying outside these locations and we can recommend a central meeting point to join the tour.
• Visit a boutique cellar door for a guided wine tasting featuring a range of Hunter Valley premium wines, where we will learn all about what we are best known and famous for in the region.
• Visit one of the oldest wine makers in the region for a “Mystery Wine Tasting ” . Enchanting Moments: itinerary for the day

Start the day around 9.30 am with a romantic pairing of strawberries and a glass of sparkling wine to elevate the luxurious experience.

1 st Tasting session (wine & cheese) – The creamy richness of cheese mingles with the nuanced notes of wine. Which is creating a tapestry of flavours that dance on the palate, inviting moments of sheer culinary bliss and an appreciation for the intricate interplay of these culinary companions.

2 nd tasting session (wine & chocolates) – As the rich, velvety chocolate melts on the tongue, it unveils layers of cocoa complexity, revealing notes of earthiness, sweetness, or a delightful hint of fruitiness; paired with a carefully selected wine.

Lunch stop – Hunter Quarter , Muse dining and Bistro Molines are our preferred stops for romantic and unforgettable culinary delicacies making popular spots influenced with fresh and locally sourced ingredients.

3 rd tasting session – The next stop could be either Hunter Distillery to taste handcrafted spirits (vodka, gin, rum and liqueurs) or another cellar door to taste Hunter Valley’s best produce Semillon.

The full-day Hunter Valley wine tour for couples ends by dropping you at your accommodation around 4 pm leaving you full of memories.

Cost for a private vineyard journey

A full-day Hunter Valley wine tour for two costs A$800 that includes arrival sparking wine with strawberries, 3 tasting sessions (wine + cheese, Wine + chocolate & taste of handcrafted spirits).

Travel in a luxury style

You will be travelling in a fully air-conditioned luxury and modern Mercedes Benz minivan with leather seats and complimentary chilled bottled water.

Tour duration – 6 to 8 hours depending on the pick-up location

Pick up and drop off – Sydney CBD OR Hunter Valley (Pokolbin/ Cessnok) – 15 km radius

Departure – 7.30 am from Sydney OR 9.30 am from Pokolbin

Return – 5.30 pm to Sydney OR 3.30 pm to Pokolbin

Inclusions – Wine tasting from 2 small boutique Hunter Valley wineries , paired with cheese or chocolate, visit to distilery, and bottled water

Tour itinerary – Visit a trio of small boutique Hunter Valley wineries and pair wine with cheese or chocolate, stop over for lunch to taste local produce, and visit the Hunter distillery at the end of the tour to taste spirits and liqueurs .

What to wear – Jacket in the cooler months, comfortable footwear, comfortable walking trousers/shorts, camera, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, etc.

*** Inside winery visit – It’s a must to wear covered shoes due to WHS regulations.

Additional information –

Wine tasting – We recommend Gartelmann wines at Lovedale Road due to its beautiful cosy atmosphere with outdoor seating. Other recommended wineries include Oakval, Ernest Hill & Capercaillie. 

Lunch options – Hunter Valley offers a vast variety of restaurant styles such as casual dining (Goldfish Restaurant at Roche Estate), Pub style dining (Harrigan’s Hunter Valley), or Bistro Molines for perfection. Let the guide know which restaurant you prefer for lunch.

Cheese tasting – There are 3 famous artisan cheese shops (Hunter Valley Cheese co, Hunter Belle Cheese, and Smelly Cheese Shop).

Beer tasting – The Mighty (formally Potters & Foghorn Brewery), Iron Bark Hill, Hope Valley, and Matilda Brewhouse are your options for beer paddle tasting.

Organic gin and vodka tasting – $5 per person at Hunter Distillery.

Walkabout Park entry – $30 per adult, and $15 for 3 to 15 aged

Tour Itinerary –

A usual Hunter Valley wine tour itinerary is picking up at a time suitable for the first tasting at 10 am from pre-selected Hunter Valley wineries , 2 nd tasting at 11 am, and 12.30 pm – 3 rd the tasting or lunch stop, depending on the timings for the lunch, 3 rd and 4 th tasting could be around 3 pm and 4 pm. We usually end the tour tasting spirits and liqueurs from Distilery.

Tour price – A$ 150 per person (maximum of 11 per group, $980++ tour starting price is you have a smaller group), prices may go higher for high-demand months/weeks.

*** If you need to customize the tour and want to do an inside winery visit, it’s a must to wear covered shoes due to WHS regulations. Usually, inside winery tours are available at 10.30 am or 12.30 pm (not included in the tour price)

Wineries  we visit – Our recommended wineries for this tour are Gartelmann wines Lovedale , Oakvale Estate , Capercaillie wines, and Ernest Hill vineyard.

Lunch options (excluded in tour price) – Twine Restaurant for a modern Australian Twist, Muse Restaurant at Broke Road, Goldfish Bar & Kitchen for a casual lunch, or Harrigans for a pub meal.

Cheese tasting – Cheese tasting at the Hunter Valley Cheese Co usually costs $7.95 for a Five Cheese Platter PP.

Beer Paddles – can choose beer tasting from Iron Bark Hill Brewhouse or Mighty Hunter Valley.

Hunter Distillery – This certified Organic distillery offers unique ‘test-tube’ tasting sessions for Gin, Vodka, Liqueurs, and Schnapps.
