Carnival corporation celebrates opening of dubai harbour cruise terminal.

MIAMI , Dec. 17, 2021 /PRNewswire/ --  Carnival Corporation & plc  (NYSE/LSE: CCL;NYSE: CUK), the world's largest cruise company, today celebrated the official opening of Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal with Shamal Holding following their strategic partnership signed in 2018 to develop the new cruise port as the main hub for cruise tourism in Dubai .

Costa Firenze and AIDAbella at Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal

Torben Seidenschnur , director CEO office and strategic development at Costa Group.

Costa Firenze and AIDAbella from the company's Italy -based Costa Cruises and Germany -based AIDA Cruises brands, the official opening was also marked by two passenger cruise ships visiting the Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal for the first time, coinciding with the start of the cruise season and the ships' homeporting seasons from Dubai . The opening represents a significant milestone in realizing Dubai's goal of becoming the world's most visited city, underscored with the October launch of the highly popular Expo 2020 in Dubai . Through Costa Cruises' partnership as a Gold Sponsor of the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, cruise guests are provided with exciting shore excursion options to explore the World Exhibition.

As the region's first-ever dedicated, twin-terminal cruise port, Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal is capable of accommodating two large cruise ships simultaneously. The world-class facility spans over 120,000 square meters (nearly 1.3 million square feet) and includes two purpose-built terminal buildings that offer passengers and crew a safe, comfortable and seamless embarkation and disembarkation experience. The state-of-the-art terminals are equipped with four bespoke Seaport Passenger Boarding Bridges that can simultaneously support the full turnaround of the largest class of cruise ships in the industry.

"After years of working closely with Shamal Holding , we are absolutely thrilled to welcome guests from around the world to Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal," said Thamm. "As the world's largest cruise company, our passion is providing our guests with extraordinary vacation experiences, and we are confident that our partnership with Shamal Holding will enhance the overall experience for our guests. The two terminals stand as a tribute to the remarkable appeal of Dubai and the Arabian Gulf as a cruise destination, and we look forward to working with Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal and its community partners to make Dubai Harbour a highly efficient and customer-friendly operation, while facilitating new tourism opportunities through cruising in the region."

"We're delighted to see our partnership with Carnival Corporation and its brands hit another significant milestone as today we welcomed two extraordinary cruise ships to Dubai Harbour, the largest standalone dedicated twin-cruise terminal center in the eastern hemisphere. It is exciting to see so many thousands of people enter the city through this stunning seafront district, the newest entry point to Dubai , which is already considered to be the ideal gateway to the region for cruise ships from around the world."

Added Binhabtoor regarding the alignment with Dubai Tourism Strategy: "The Dubai Harbour development represents a historic milestone in Dubai's role as this region's foremost destination for lifestyle, leisure and luxury – a moment in history that brings forward the realization of Dubai's ambition to become the most visited city in the world. However, it is not only an extraordinary destination for cruise passengers from every corner of the world, but also a natural gateway to the attractions that Dubai has to offer and, as a result of the city's strategic location, other international destinations as well."

The cruise terminals, which are part of Dubai Harbour development, offer a wide array of amenities and services for passengers and crew – from ample seating areas to washrooms, currency exchange outlets, ATMs, cafes, retail outlets, duty-free, dedicated parking, taxi stands and more. The facilities are designed to be fully accessible for all visitors and complimentary Wi-Fi is enabled for guests and crew to stay connected.

Located in the heart of modern Dubai , the new twin-terminal facility is conveniently positioned for international visitors traveling in and out of Dubai . Dubai Harbour's spectacular backdrop, iconic vista and accessible location are combined with a wide range of living, retail and hospitality choices, as well as comprehensive berthing facilities, to comprise the region's most unique lifestyle offering – including experiences such as Dubai Harbour Yacht Club , Dubai Harbour Pier Club , Dubai Harbour Marinas, Skydive Dubai and Zero Gravity.

Costa Firenze's arrival in Dubai on Dec. 16 marked the start of the ship's season from Dubai , where it is homeporting for the first time ever, through March 2022 .

Together, six brands from Carnival Corporation – AIDA Cruises , Costa Cruises , Cunard, P&O Cruises ( UK ), Princess Cruises and Seabourn – will visit the Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal by 2023 and in total, the six brands are expected by then to make 90 calls to the new twin-terminal cruise port.

AIDA ships dock for the first time at the new Dubai Cruise Terminal

The ultra-modern terminal facility in Dubai Harbor, which is located between the islands of “Bluewaters” and “The Palm Jumeirah” in the heart of Dubai, extends over 120,000 square meters. The most popular sights, beautiful beaches and world-famous landmarks of the city such as the 250-meter-high Ain Dubai ferris wheel or the Burj Al Arab are just a stone's throw away. The two international airports are also very easy to reach.

AIDA Cruises is offering seven-day trips to the Orient from Dubai between the end of November 2021 and mid-April 2022. Thanks to a stay of several days, AIDA guests have the opportunity to discover the largest metropolis in the United Arab Emirates on various excursions. Other destinations include Abu Dhabi and the fascinating Muscat in Oman. Pleasant summer temperatures in winter and a moderate flight time of just under six hours are further unbeatable arguments for an oriental cruise.

All AIDA trips up to summer 2022 can be booked in the travel agency, on the Internet at www.aida.de and in the AIDA customer center.

The United Arab Emirates have been one of the destinations of the AIDA fleet since 2006. Together with its local partners, the cruise company has developed the region into one of the most popular cruise destinations for German vacationers in the winter months. In 2018 the Carnival Corporation entered into a strategic partnership with Shamal Holding with the aim of developing Dubai into the most important center for sea tourism in the region. Part of the agreement between the two companies also included the construction of the Dubai Cruise Terminal, the future main hub for the passenger switching and transit activities of the Carnival Corporation in the region, where the first test run with AIDAprima ( CruiseMapper ) and AIDAvita took place.

Dubai Harbour opens the 2022-23 cruise season with the arrival of AIDAcosma

cruise dubai aida

Today Dubai Harbour welcomed its first cruise ship the AIDAcosma from the German cruise line Aida, officially starting its 2022/23 cruise season. AIDAcosma will use Dubai as a homeport departing on 7-night Orinet voyages to Muscat, and Abu Dhabi. AIDAcosma is one of the largest cruise ships within the AIDA fleet and is a first-of-its-kind liquid natural gas (LNG) powered ship with a capacity of over 5,500 guests.

To mark the opening of the cruise season, DHCT Management along with public and private sector stakeholders will exchange plaques with the Ship Captain, a maritime tradition, to commemorate its maiden call.

Throughout the season, more than 300,000 cruise passengers are expected to arrive at the Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal, marking accelerating growth for the cruise industry in the country.

“We are excited to return to Dubai Harbour – this time round with the maiden call of our youngest fleet member AIDAcosma. Through AIDAcosma, we are continuing on our path to green cruising and are elated to be collaborating with Dubai Harbour to do so. We are sure our guests will have a great time, as they set sail on a tour of the Orient this winter 2022/2023, specifically at Dubai Harbour with its line-up of entertaining events and activities, alongside the magnificent Dubai skyline,” Alexander Ewig, Senior Vice President Marketing & Sales at AIDA Cruises said:=.

As the owning-company and curator of Dubai Harbour, the diversified investment firm Shamal Holding is the driving force behind making Dubai Harbour an exceptional seafront district. The cruise terminals, which are part of the incredible Dubai Harbour development, showcase the spectacular and beautiful Dubai Harbour skyline to guests and offer a wide array of amenities and services for passengers and crew.

“Today is a very special day for us. This is not only the first time we have an LNG-powered cruise ship making its way to the city, but also a new cruise season that we look forward to with renewed excitement and anticipation. As we get ready to see full fleets get back in service, we believe there is great scope for extraordinary growth in the region. This includes more destinations, enhanced experiences and new types of cruise travellers. After the success of our last cruise season, we have continued to make investments across Dubai Harbour and Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminals and will also be extending our cruise season into the summer months of 2023 for the first time, with ships calling well into the month of June for overnight port stays for passenger turnaround. We look forward to continuing to play our part in welcoming more passengers and ships, as we aim to contribute to the region’s cruise tourism sector.” Abdulla Binhabtoor, Chief Portfolio Management Officer, Shamal Holding, the owner and curator of Dubai Harbour said.

“As Dubai continues to make waves across global tourism, the arrival of the first cruise travellers at Dubai Harbour for the new season will further reinforce Dubai’s position as a leading cruise tourism hub in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to make our city the world’s most sought-after and visited destination. The continuous efforts of Shamal Holding to enhance Dubai’s cruise tourism sector by developing world-class projects, infrastructure and facilities such as the Dubai Harbour is a testament to the tireless efforts of our valued stakeholders and partners to expand Dubai’s diverse destination proposition. As sustainability and decarbonisation are crucial elements of Dubai’s tourism strategy, we welcome the arrival of eco-friendly cruise ships like the Aida Cosma, further boosting our efforts to become a major sustainable tourism destination. We are also proud to be consistently included as a key port of call by the world’s largest and most popular ocean liners, highlighting Dubai’s global reputation as the ultimate cruise gateway to the region.” H.E. Issam Kazim, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, commented.

The infrastructure at the Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal comprises two terminal buildings that offer passengers and crew a safe, comfortable, and seamless experience. Designed to process over 3,250 passengers per hour, the highly efficient and modern terminals are located on a pier stretch of over 910 meters and can accommodate a complete passenger turnaround of two mega cruise ships simultaneously.

The purpose-built terminals ensure simplified and streamlined immigration, as well as customs screening processes, with the dedicated access routes for passengers and crew, facilitated by Seaport Passenger Boarding Bridges, allowing uninterrupted flow between the ship and the terminal.

Emirates and AIDA Cruises renew their partnership for a further two seasons

Berlin/Dubai 5 March 2024: Solidifying Dubai’s place as a major maritime tourism hub, Emirates and AIDA Cruises have renewed their partnership for a further two seasons.

The renewed partnership was signed on the sidelines of the first day of ITB Berlin and is in line with Dubai’s efforts to significant grow its cruise capacity. Dubai continues to attract the biggest players in the industry through offering a seamlessly integrated maritime hub, with state-of-the-art handling facilities supported with unrivalled air connectivity.

Emirates will explore a number of opportunities with AIDA Cruises for joint marketing, operational alignment and strategic planning around flight schedules from across its network, in addition to enhanced transportation solutions between Dubai International Airport and Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal.

The partnership will continue to focus on sharing relevant data and insights to improve service delivery, providing dedicated support teams for cruise passengers, and facilitating a smooth check-in process at Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal. The airline will also dedicate capacity for the next two seasons to ensure continued momentum to meet the demand for cruise packages to Dubai.

The MoU was signed by Adnan Kazim, Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, Emirates Airline; and Felix Eichhorn, President of AIDA Cruises.

Adnan Kazim commented on the renewed partnership: “We’re proud of AIDA Cruises’ long-standing commitment to Dubai, when they were one of the first cruise liners to home port in 2006.  We are readying the business for another robust cruise season in Dubai, and through the support of partners like AIDA Cruises anchoring in our home city and hub, we’ll continue to strengthen Dubai’s position as an attractive gateway for winter cruising.”

"The Arabian Gulf is one of our most popular winter destinations due to its moderate flight times, pleasant summer temperatures and many hours of sunshine. Combined with the new state-of-the-art terminals at Dubai Harbour within easy reach of the city's attractions and excellent airport connectivity, our cooperation with Emirates will further enhance the attractiveness of this destination for our guests with tailor-made flight options," said Felix Eichhorn, President of AIDA Cruises .

AIDAprima has been operating to Dubai Harbour since 2021 and can accommodate up to 3,200 passengers. This season, passengers embarking and disembarking from Dubai can look forward to diverse itineraries that include destinations like Muscat, Doha, Sir Bani Yas and Abu Dhabi.

Dubai has been a first mover in joining up the entire travel and tourism ecosystem to facilitate hassle-free entry and visas for cruise passengers, seamless handling at ports which includes access to Emirates check-in desks at Dubai Harbour along with a host of other amenities dotted across the entire air and ground journey. Travellers have the added advantage of disembarking at one of the world’s most iconic tourism destinations, with landmarks and attractions that suit every taste, age and budget.

The 12 Emirates check-in counters in Dubai Harbour allow passengers who are disembarking from their cruise ships to fully check-in up to 4 hours before flight departure with the convenience of exploring Dubai without their luggage before heading directly to the airport and breezing past most formalities before their flight.

Last year, Emirates transported around 400,000 cruise passengers using Dubai cruise terminals. The city welcomed over 166 ships during the last cruise season, making it the region’s biggest port of embarkation and most popular call for cruise liners. The city expects an increase of 23% more cruise passengers for the upcoming season.

Eight of them were female crew members, representing different countries and departments of the AIDA company. One godmother represented Jos L Meyer (the shipbuilder), and one - Partner Ship Design (the ship designers).

Besides the ship's staff and crew, AIDA cruise passengers are also served by Peper robots - the latest cyborg technology implemented fleetwide in 2016. These humanoid robots greet and guide passengers upon embarkation. They also assist them throughout the cruise by providing information and tips on onboard dining, entertainment, enrichment program (workshops, pre-scheduled events), casino and shopping promotions, shore excursions and tours. However, it is not only a fantastic lifestyle leisure destination for cruise passengers from every corner of the world – it is a natural gateway to the many wonders that Dubai has to offer and other international destinations. The continued success of our cruise business depends on a number of key factors such as partnerships with more and more leading cruise lines, collaboration with major Dubai entities such as Shamal Holding and the availability of world-class infrastructure and facilities like the Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal. With the new cruise season in full swing, we are proud to be consistently included as a key port of call by the world’s largest and most popular ocean liners, as evidenced by the arrival of AIDAbella and the first passengers to the new Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal, further reinforcing Dubai’s global reputation as the ultimate cruise gateway to the region.” The infrastructure at the Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal comprises two terminal buildings that offer passengers and crew a safe, comfortable, and seamless experience. Designed to process over 3,250 passengers per hour, the highly efficient and modern terminals are located on a pier stretch of over 910 meters and can accommodate a complete passenger turnaround of two mega cruise ships simultaneously. The purpose-built terminals ensure simplified and streamlined immigration and customs screening processes, and the dedicated access routes for passengers and crew, facilitated by Seaport Passenger Boarding Bridges, allow uninterrupted flow between the ship and the terminal. “We are excited and proud to bring AIDAbella, the ninth ship back into service, offering our guests voyages in the Orient in winter 2021/2022 and specifically to Dubai Harbour Cruise Terminal located in this wonderful seafront district nestled within the Dubai Harbour development and the Palm Jumeirah and in close proximity to Dubai landmark tourist attractions.  A special highlight of this year’s cruise season is the World EXPO 2020,” said Felix Eichhorn, President of AIDA Cruises. AIDA Cruises is the market leader in the German-speaking cruise market and currently operates one of the most modern fleets in the world with 13 cruise ships, including the first ever LNG propulsion cruise ship built. UAE: What to do if your car's cruise control fails? Dubai Police issue advisory

D ubai Police want drivers to remain calm and not to panic if the cruise control of their vehicle malfunctions. This came after the police to respond as he was cruising on the Sheikh Zayed Road towards Abu Dhabi.

Almost all cars are now equipped with cruise control system, which locks the accelerator at one speed and drivers can take the foot off the pedal and relax. But in the past when the electric system malfunctioned and the .

In an advisory, Dubai Police urged motorists always to wear their seatbelts to ensure their safety. If the electric system fails, a driver must switch on the hazard lights and immediately contact the emergency number 999, explaining the dire situation.

If a driver experiences this malfunction, Dubai Police urged them to follow the below steps:

1. Put the gear on N (neutral), turn off the engine, and restart it immediately.

2. For more modern models, motorists should push and suppress the start button for a long time until the engine turns off.

3. If that fails, motorists should put the gear on N (neutral) and push on the brakes firmly and steadily until the car eventually stops.

4. If the previous method also fails, they should slowly pull up the handbrake while firmly holding the steering wheel.

5. If all methods fail, motorists must change the gear setting between N and D (drive) repeatedly.

6. If any of the previous methods work before a patrol car reaches, the police said that a motorist should stop the car off the road and make sure he/ she is safe and wait for the arrival of the concerned units.

Cruise control is a feature in cars that comes in handy when you drive at a constant speed. It is an electric system that allows you to set your car to a specific speed, letting you take your foot off the accelerator pedal. So, it can ease foot-fatigue and stress over a long drive.

Another great benefit to using cruise control is that you are going to have greater fuel efficiency. Your vehicle will consume much less fuel if you cruise at a steady speed rather than accelerating at each section of the open road. When you accelerate sharply, it makes your engine use more energy, and you could be using 60% more fuel than one who uses cruise control.

According to Kia, the leading edge of cruise control today is adaptive cruise control. Just as conventional cruise control, adaptive cruise control allows you to set a desired travel speed. But the difference is that the adaptive cruise control maintains a safe distance between the car in front of you and your car at a consistent pace by using the forward-mounted sensors.

For instance, if the car ahead of your vehicle begins to slow, adaptive cruise control will use the engine brake to automatically slow the pace of your vehicle and maintain the selected distance.

Everything There Is to Know About the Extravagant Ambani Wedding

The nuptials are estimated to have cost over $300 million

There are weddings, and then there’s the Ambani wedding.

india wedding ambani economy

Since their engagement in December 2023, Ambani and Merchant have been building up to their big day by hosting increasingly lavish events that sounded almost too extravagant to be true. Whether that meant a European cruise featuring performances by the likes of Katy Perry and Andrea Bocelli, or a pre-wedding party with a rare appearance by Rihanna, the two have spared no expense.

Of course, with Ambani being the youngest member of the richest family in Asia, and Merchant being the heir to her own billionaire bloodline, it’s no surprise the families have been going all out. We got a good example of what this wedding would be like back in 2018, when Anant’s sister, Isha, got married and the costs were estimated at upward of $100 million. And Anant being the last of the Ambani children to tie the knot, it’s clear the family wants to go out with a bang.

Here, we’ve rounded up everything you need to know about the official Ambani wedding weekend—from the cost to the star-studded guest list, and everything in between.

How much did the wedding cost?

india society wedding ambani

The big question on everyone’s mind is: Just how much will this wedding cost?

The Ambanis have remained mum about total figures, but an event management owner estimated to the BBC that the cost is at least somewhere between 11 billion and 13 billions rupees (around $132 million to $156 million).

Other estimates have been even higher. The Daily Mail crunched the numbers and estimated that the wedding has to have cost approximately $320 million, considering the price of security, transportation, food, and money paid to performers. (When Rihanna showed up to the pre-wedding ceremony in March, it was believed she got a check for around $7 million.)

Of course, this is just a drop in the bucket for the Ambani family. Anant’s father is currently the richest man in Asia, after all, with an estimated net worth of $123.3 billion, and he ranks as the 11th-richest man in the world.

Who will perform at the main event?

Although details are still unknown, it is believed the main wedding event will feature quite the headline-grabbing name, with several outlets floating rumors that Drake, Adele, or Lana Del Rey will perform at the ceremony.

None of these stars would come as a huge surprise, given that the list of musical performers for the pre-wedding festivities has looked like a Grammys lineup.

In March, the pre-wedding party included the performance by Rihanna, whose last previous high-profile appearance was when she headlined the Super Bowl in 2023 (casual). The evening also included sets bt Akon and Diljit Dosanjh, the first Punjabi singer ever to perform at Coachella.

Then, when the families hosted a European cruise in May, the roster of performers was equally impressive, with Katy Perry, Andrea Bocelli, the Backstreet Boys, and Pitbull all taking the stage. As if that weren’t enough, Justin Bieber showed up for a surprise performance last week at a pre-wedding event in Mumbai, a gig he was reportedly paid $10 million for.

Given that a previous Ambani wedding featured a performance by Beyoncé, we’re guessing that no prediction is too big at this point.

What celebrities will be in attendance?

entertainment india july 2024

While the musical performer is sure to be an A-lister, the guest list (rumored to be up to 1,200 people) will include plenty of major names as well.

In the lead-up to the nuptials, pre-wedding festivities have been attended by the likes of Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates, Hillary Clinton, Ivanka Trump, and Bollywood stars like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Ranveer Singh.

We know even more famous faces will be in attendance at the main event. On Instagram this week, Kim and Khloé Kardashian shared snaps as they arrived at their hotel in Mumbai ahead of the wedding. Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas also arrived on Thursday, which comes as no surprise, given that Anant and Radhika both attended the couple’s wedding festivities back in 2018.

Other celebrities spotted in the area have included John Cena, Law Roach, Rajkummar Rao, and former British prime minister Tony Blair. According to Vanity Fair , invitations reportedly went out to other former prime ministers, like Boris Johnson, as well as celebrities like Mike Tyson, David Beckham, and former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.

Where will the wedding take place?

mukesh ambani residence antilia decorated ahead of wedding of his son anant ambani

Mumbai will be slightly shut down this weekend, with the Evening Standard reporting that the wedding is being considered a “public event,” much like royal weddings are.

On Friday, the couple will have their main event at the Jio World Convention Center in the Bandra-Kurla Complex, a venue that can hold up to 16,500 people. According to CNN , a red carpet will be rolled out for all the star attendees, and the dress code is classical Indian attire.

In addition, there will be other ceremonies taking place at Antilia, a 27-story Ambani family tower block that has been decorated lavishly ahead of the weekend. This residence, valued at $4.6 billion, was lit up ahead of the nuptials with various colors, and it was also decorated with strings of flowers, while musicians performed live music outside the building hours ahead of the ceremony.

This weekend, the wedding will take place over the course of three days, with the main ceremony at Jio World Convention Center taking place on Friday, July 12, followed by a “Shubh Ashirwad” divine blessings ceremony on July 13 and a “Mangal Utsav,” or reception, on Sunday, both of which will take place in Antilia.

How long have the wedding festivities been going on?

nita mukesh ambani cultural centre opening ceremony at bandra kurla complex

While the wedding proper is only a weekend long, the Ambani wedding festivities are going on seven months now, with the first event—the engagement party—having taken place back in January.

At the beginning of the year, Merchant took part in a mehndi ceremony, where her hands and feet were decorated with henna. The following day, there was an engagement bash, or gol dhana .

Over the months that followed, the celebrations have only gotten bigger and more extravagant, with the families throwing a “pre-wedding party” in March in the city of Jamnagar, where the celebration included fireworks, a feast, and the aforementioned Rihanna performance.

May saw the European cruise, which traveled to various spots across the Mediterranean and included such events as a masquerade ball.

And earlier this July, the couple held a mass wedding, a sangeet (a night of music and dance) and a haldi blessing ceremony.

This Sunday should mark the end of the nearly year-long wedding proceedings. And then we have the honeymoon to look forward to!
