Nissan Patrol Super Safari review: the best of both worlds

Off-road or on the motorway, the 2022 model of the region’s legendary suv is here to conquer everything in its path.

Since its resurrection in 2017, the Nissan Patrol Super Safari has continued to dominate as the region’s favourite off-road vehicle. The Japanese manufacturer bowed to popular demand and brought the wilder Nissan Patrol back into production, and tweaked and tuned every new version for the better.

The 2022 Nissan Patrol Super Safari follows the trend. For starters, it sits slightly higher than its predecessors. This not only gives you a better view of what’s ahead, but also creates more clearance underneath the car to comfortably deal with extremely uneven terrain. Or an extra-large speed bump.

Engine: 6-cylinder, 4.8-litre Transmission: 5-speed automatic and manual Power: 280 brake horsepower Torque: 451Nm Price: from Dh153,00 On sale: now

Nissan has also introduced cruise control, anti-lock brakes, smart tyre-pressure monitoring and a number of other driving aids that make for a more comfortable ride. It’s now available in either a 5-speed manual or automatic gearbox. The result is that the 2022 Nissan Patrol Super Safari feels more at home than ever when you’re driving it on asphalt. We were fairly surprised just how smooth the drive was and the silence in the cabin as the 4.8-litre, 280bhp V6 engine roared away was impressive.

Choose between cloth, leather and PVC upholstery. Photo: Nissan

Now, if you just read that paragraph above and are worried that the Super Safari has been declawed, fear not — it’s equally as fun off the road as it is on it. There’s not much (if anything) that the robust suspension and new telescopic shock absorbers can’t handle. You feel more in control than ever thanks to the intelligent system that manages engine speed when under or oversteering. When we took it for a gentle spin off-road it instantly felt safely at home. The temptation to plant our foot and bounce over every hill in sight was palpable. This one lives for rough terrain.

Nissan has been very clever with its 2022 Patrol Super Safari. While improving the driving experience for thrill-seekers it has introduced the safety and comfort features found in the more luxurious Nissan Patrol, which will appeal to drivers. You can choose between cloth, leather or PVC upholstery for inside the cavernous cabin, with each seat providing comfy and ample space. And we love the straightforward nature of the Bluetooth connection that hooks your phone up to the in-car entertainment system easily.

Yes, it’s more of an everyday SUV now. You can use it for doing the school run, transporting friends and family or nipping out to do the grocery shopping. But it’s also ready to be loaded up with camping equipment, shovels and recovery sand boards at a moment’s notice for an off-road adventure.

Nissan’s evolution of the Super Safari has so far been well balanced. And this 2022 version delivers its most complete version yet. There’s no need to rip up the rule book when it comes to improvements, and by focusing on functionality and interior comfort upgrades, the Super Safari will live on for a long time.

Hey everyone, Recently purchased the car and first time owner of a 4x4. I love this car been dreaming about it since i was kid, one thing tho, I was considering getting the exchast system changed and getting the car tuned for some extra torque and HP. This is what I will be doing to the car: - Chip tuning: increase my HP by 30-35HP and 50-55 NM of torque, it also includes: - increasing throttle response rate - RPM limiters extension - Top speed limiters cancellation - Radiator fan to work at maximum speed above 97c temp for better cooling efficiency. - Better fuel efficiency and -CCP Performance Valvetronic axle back system. Thing is, im a bit worried about this since the car is less than 2 weeks old. But the stock sound is very monotone and thinking that the extra power would help when i go dune bashing. any suggestions? Tips? ideas? Thanks, AK

History of Nissan Patrol Super Safari

Origins and early history of nissan patrol super safari.

The Nissan Patrol Super Safari has its roots in the broader Nissan Patrol series, which has been an iconic part of Nissan’s lineup since the early 1950s. Established as a rival against vehicles like the series Land Rover, the Patrol was marketed as a no-nonsense off-roader built to take on the most challenging terrains. Over the years, the Patrol series evolved significantly from its utilitarian beginnings into a more sophisticated and comfortable vehicle, while maintaining its rugged capabilities. The Super Safari variant, introduced in the late 1980s, marked a significant milestone in the Patrol series and quickly became a favorite among off-road enthusiasts.

The Evolution of Nissan Patrol Super Safari

Over the years, the Nissan Patrol Super Safari saw numerous modifications and improvements in design, performance, and technology. From the initial y60 model to the current y61 version, each generation aimed to improve upon the last by incorporating state-of-the-art designs and features.

One of the first major facelifts occurred with the transition from the y60 to the y61 model. This carried significantly enhanced features, including a new exterior design, interior refurbishments, and engine upgrades. The y61 model provided both luxury and reliability without compromising the vehicle’s renowned off-road prowess.

Key Influencers Behind Its Development

Nissan’s primary objective behind the Super Safari was to create a vehicle that combined luxury and comfort with off-road capacity. This model was the result of extensive research and development by Nissan’s team of engineers and designers who understood the need for a robust, comfortable, and versatile 4×4 vehicle.

One of the key influencers in the Patrol Super Safari’s development was consumers’ feedback and their need for improvements. Nissan consistently incorporated this feedback into the design and performance of the Super Safari, leading to ongoing refinement of its specifications, power, and comfort levels.

The Unique Features Each Model Introduced

Every new iteration of the Nissan Patrol Super Safari introduced distinct features that set it apart from its predecessor. The y60 model, for example, was the first to introduce the coil-sprung suspension instead of the traditional leaf springs, resulting in better suspension and a smoother ride.

The y61 model saw an introduction of a more powerful engine, a turbo diesel option, as well as a direct injection petrol engine. Additionally, Nissan added creature comforts normally found in more upscale vehicles like an adjustable steering wheel, power windows, and dual airbags.

Perhaps the most notable feature, unique to the Super Safari, is its off-road prowess. The Super Safari’s robust engine, combined with a highly capable 4WD system and high ground clearance, allows it to tackle the harshest and diverse terrains with ease.

Introduction to Nissan Patrol Super Safari

Keeping with tradition, the Nissan Patrol Super Safari excels at delivering a powerful, luxurious, and unmatched off-road experience. It comes as no surprise that a growing number of women drivers are gravitating towards this model, as they, like their male counterparts, invest more in and value its class-leading power.

The 2022 Nissan Patrol Safari picks up where the previous models had left off. It builds on the SUV’s immense popularity amongst car owners in the UAE and the region who are after powerful vehicle performance designed for off-roading adventures.

The Nissan Patrol Super Safari 2022 offers enhanced performance supported by a 4.8-litre in-line six-cylinder engine, which can produce 280 horsepower and 451 Nm of torque. Equipped with VTC and NICS, the Patrol Super Safari, which is available in a 5-speed automatic or manual transmission, delivers exceptional off-road performance and impressive top speed on the highway.

Equipped with many capabilities and aesthetic features, it boasts a unique exterior and interior design for a memorable driving experience. Staying true to the Nissan identity, it incorporates features that combine strength, stability, control and robust performance even on rough terrains.

The Nissan Patrol Super Safari 2022 is available across Al Masaood Automobiles showrooms in Abu Dhabi in colours black, white and gold, with a unique choice of grey or gold accents across the roof, bumpers, wheel arches and spare tyre cover. In addition, the striking `Super Safari’ decal can be seen along the side of the car, complemented by a set of 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels.

Customers mainly gravitated towards the black and twilight grey colour combination in 2021– accounting for 49 per cent of the Nissan Patrol Super Safari sales during the period. However, the radiance of the white hue proved to be a great driver of customer demand in 2022. During the first quarter of this year, the white Patrol Super Safari units constituted 52 per cent of the total sales.

As for its interior, the new model sports luxurious leather seats with a special Super Safari emboss that adds a unique touch to the model’s overall appeal. It also includes a display audio system with smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay and a wireless charger for added comfort and convenience. Its advanced technologies are amongst the highlights of the Patrol Super Safari, reflecting Nissan’s commitment to building vehicles with outstanding features that can level up the overall experience of its customers whilst on the road.

The Super Safari 2022 offers a host of Nissan safety features, including cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring system, ABS, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system that prevents understeer when entering or exiting a corner, and dual-front SRS airbags that reflect Nissan’s attention to the smallest details of security and safety in its models.

The flagship Patrol Warrior has a thunderous 5.6-liter V8, an engine the Toyota LC300 Land Cruiser can't match

The Nissan Patrol, much like its North American counterpart, the Armada, is showing its age. Both vehicles have been around for quite some time. Introduced in early 2010, the Patrol has received a couple of facelifts over the years but remains largely unchanged. This begs the question: in a world of constantly evolving automotive technology and consumer preferences, why are we taking the time to review an aging SUV?

Well, as you can see from the photos, the Patrol you’re observing isn’t your run-of-the-mill model. This is the Patrol Warrior, a special edition conceived exclusively for the Australian market. It’s designed to enhance the Patrol’s already impressive off-road chops and brings with it a host of mechanical upgrades and visual tweaks.

Review: Europe’s New 2024 VW Tiguan Thinks It’s Wolfsburg’s BMW X1

Like the Nissan Navara Pro-4X Warrior that we drove a couple of years ago, the Patrol Warrior has not been modified by Nissan itself. It has been built by Premcar, an Australian engineering firm, and then delivered to Nissan dealerships.

What Premcar accomplished with the Navara was undeniably impressive, but it’s worth noting that the Navara is much newer than the Patrol, providing the company with a more contemporary foundation to work from. The question now is: has Premcar achieved a similarly feat with the Patrol Warrior? Let’s dive in and find out.

Quick Facts

Premcar’s upgrades start with the suspension. The ride height has been jacked up by 29 mm (1.1 inches) and the company has bolted on a set of distinctive 18-inch wheels wrapped in Yokohama G015 295/70 All-Terrain tires. In addition, the Patrol includes a re-engineered Hydraulic Body Motion Control system, re-developed front springs, new multi-rate rear springs, progressive rate rear bump-stops, and rebuilt dampers.

It now sits 50 mm (1.9 inches) higher than a standard Patrol and has a 40-degree approach angle and a 23.3-degree departure angle.

Review: The Nissan Patrol Warrior Is An Armada On Off-Road Steroids

The modifications don’t stop there. Premcar has also installed a new front bumper, a red bash plate, black fender flares, new recovery points, side steps, a black grille, and some Warrior decals. These changes have a huge impact on the vehicle’s road presence, making it stand out from not only lesser Patrol variants but also its rivals, like the Toyota Land Cruiser LC300.

One of the most distinctive features of the Patrol is its 5.6-liter naturally-aspirated V8 and with the Land Cruiser no longer available with eight-cylinders, this engine gives the Nissan a unique appeal. Premcar has set out to make the most of this 5.6-liter mill and developed a bi-modal exhaust for it with side-exit pipes. Rounding out the upgrades is some Alcantara trim across the dashboard.

A real show-stopper.

When approaching the Patrol Warrior for the first time, I was immediately struck by the sheer size of the thing. It is an absolute behemoth and is one of just a handful of vehicles sold in Australia with eight seats that isn’t a minivan. After clambering inside, I was confronted with one of the most outdated interiors of any new vehicle on sale.

Review: The Nissan Patrol Warrior Is An Armada On Off-Road Steroids

While Nissan has facelifted the Patrol twice, its updates have focused almost exclusively on the exterior. In some markets, like the Middle East, the Patrol’s second facelift brought with it the updated dashboard and screen of the U.S.-spec Armada but such changes have not been made to the Australian model. Its cabin is almost identical to what it was 14 years ago.

The steering wheel is big and while it looks outdated, the buttons on it are easy to operate while on the move. The traditional gauge cluster also feels old compared to the digital panels that are common nowadays but again, it is functional and gives you all the information you need. The same cannot be said about the infotainment display.

First Drive: 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Is The 4-Runner For Grown Ups

Found in the center of the dash is an 8.0-inch display. It is small by modern standards and runs ancient software that is basic and has aged poorly over the years. Sure, it comes with satellite navigation as standard but this system is laggy, unrefined, and low-quality. The Patrol Warrior is also the first car we have driven in recent years that does not have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Thankfully, the 2024 update includes both.

The rest of the dash also feels quite old, due primarily to the presence of a CD player and some rather ugly plastic buttons and knobs. The rest of the Patrol Warrior’s cabin is nice and offers lots of room.

As you would expect for a vehicle of this size, the second row is extremely spacious and the lack of an overly-intrusive transmission tunnel means sitting in the second-row middle seat isn’t a burden. The third row also has three seats and while they are small, they are large enough for children and teenagers. These seats can also fold flat while the second row can fold forward, giving the Patrol a massive 2,623 liters (92.6 cubic-feet) of cargo carrying capacity.

More: Nissan Exec Boldly Claims 2025 Armada Will Be “Much Better” Than Toyota Land Cruiser

A busy schedule during our week with the Patrol Warrior meant we were unable to test it in its natural environment: along off-road trails. As such, our driving impressions were limited to on-road use. We will endeavor to pick up the keys to a 2024 Patrol Warrior soon to take it off-roading.

A monster for the road .

The experience of driving the Patrol Warrior is dominated by the 5.6-liter naturally-aspirated V8. This engine delivers a considerable 298 kW (400 hp) at 5,800 rpm and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque at 4,000 rpm. While that torque figure is down on the 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of the Land Cruiser LC300 with its 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged diesel V8, the Patrol has a full 71 kW (95 hp) of extra power. Coupled with this engine is a seven-speed torque-converter automatic transmission and a low-range transfer case.

Review: The Nissan Patrol Warrior Is An Armada On Off-Road Steroids

This engine delivers an intoxicating soundtrack in the regular model and this has been amplified in the Warrior with the new exhaust. The valves to the side-exiting pipes only open up once you build the revs but when it fires into life, it delivers a thunderous soundtrack that will wake up your entire neighborhood. The thrill of a big-capacity V8 like this never gets old and with fewer vehicles sporting big engines, it gives the Patrol Warrior an appeal that its rivals can’t match.

Having a big engine driving a vehicle weighing 2,884 kg (6,358 lbs) has one big downside: fuel economy. Nissan says the Patrol Warrior drinks down 14.4 l/100 km (16.3 U.S. mpg) but during our time with it, we averaged 16.5 l/100 km (14.2 U.S. mpg) and that was doing primarily long highway stints when the engine should have been operating at its most efficient. Buyers should be prepared for some eye-watering fuel bills, then.

The seven-speed transmission is on the lazy side but we wouldn’t label it a slush box. It shifts slowly between gears but importantly, remains smooth at all times.

Review: The Nissan Patrol Warrior Is An Armada On Off-Road Steroids

Photo Brad Anderson/Carscoops

Premcar has done a good job of ensuring the Warrior remains comfortable when driven on the road, even though it yearns to climb over rocks and speed through rivers. Sure, it can be a little floaty at high speeds, but it is extraordinarily comfortable and compliant during everyday driving duties, which is not something we were expecting.

As the Warrior is based on the Patrol Ti, it comes well-equipped from the factory. Key standard features include a six-speaker sound system, tri-zone climate control, leather upholstery, tire pressure monitoring, hill descent control, and a rear differential lock. There is also radar cruise control and a lane-keeping assist system that works well.

An update for 2024

Review: The Nissan Patrol Warrior Is An Armada On Off-Road Steroids

The 2024 Nissan Patrol’s interior with the aftermarket infotainment system (Photos Nissan)

In the time between testing the Patrol Warrior and writing this review, Nissan Australia has launched tweaked versions of both the standard Patrol and the Warrior. All 2024MY examples now come equipped with an aftermarket headunit that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, fixing one of our complaints about the 4×4.

Verdict: A compelling option, despite its age.

While the Nissan Patrol is old, the upgrades that Premcar has made to it add to its appeal and it is a solid option for those looking for an eight-seater that can tow, thrill drivers, and conquer difficult off-road trails. If you can find an outgoing 2023 model on sale or can wait for the 2024 version to reach showrooms, it could be a good buy.

Your 48-hour tour guide of Moscow this winter!

9 am – Visit the Red Square

Christmas market on Red Square

Christmas market on Red Square

The first thing that every tourist should do by default is visit the very heart of Moscow – it’s main and most beautiful (which ‘krasnaya’ actually meant in Old Russian) square!

There are several ways to explore it:

  • Take a selfie with Spasskaya Tower
  • Have a warm drink at the Christmas market (which lasts until mid-January)
  • Visit Lenin’s Mausoleum
  • Shop in the gorgeous adjacent GUM department store
  • Visit St. Basil’s Cathedral (and learn that it’s actually several churches under one roof).

11 am – It’s Kremlin time!

Inside the Moscow Kremlin

Inside the Moscow Kremlin

Entering the Kremlin is, actually, a bit of a quest, as it’s a presidential facility with no general access. You need to buy a ticket or, better still, book a guided tour. Inside the Kremlin’s walls, you will find ancient cathedrals, in which Russian tsars used to be crowned and buried, as well as explore the magnificent architecture of the Kremlin that reflects the rich history of the country. And, finally, you could also make a quick visit to the Moscow Kremlin Museums and admire artifacts from various Russian tsarist eras: carriages, thrones, crowns and the most incredible armory and jewelry.

For more information, visit the official website of the Kremlin . It’s open from 10 am to 5 pm (and it’s closed on Thursdays) in winter.

2 pm – Watch the changing of the Guard

A very spectacular (and free) thing to do is watch how the honor guard does their ceremonial change at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Eternal Flame, situated in Alexander Garden, right next to the Kremlin wall. Every hour, from 8 am to 8 pm, the 1st Company of the Kremlin (Presidential) Regiment performs this rather old and beautiful tradition. But, be warned, it's often overcrowded.

3 pm – Enjoy a green oasis just in the center

Just a few steps from the Red Square, you will find the fabulous Zaryadye park. Opened in 2017, it is designed by renowned American architect bureau ‘Diller Scofidio + Renfro’. You can walk among the very cozy botanical decorations and explore Russia’s climate zones, as each of them is represented in dedicated areas, complete with flora from those zones.

The park also has an underground museum, an “ice cave” and a 3D cinema, where you can take part in a virtual adventure – a flight over Moscow! However, the piece de resistance is a floating boomerang bridge over the Moskva River, one of the best places to take a selfie.

You can also grab a quick lunch or relax with a cup of coffee or tea in the park.

7 pm – Arrange a ballet night

The Bolshoi Theater

The Bolshoi Theater

Of course, the most fancy way to finish your day in Moscow would be to go to the ballet at the Bolshoi Theater (in a perfect world, to see ‘The Nutcracker’!). However, getting tickets to the Bolshoi is not an easy task and should be done well in advance of your visit.

But, don’t be upset if you don’t manage to get tickets to the Bolshoi. Moscow has dozens of other options to see a ballet (or opera). No less brilliant performances can be seen in the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theater or in The State Kremlin Palace (by the way, this is another way to get a quick glimpse inside the Kremlin!).

10:30 pm – Have a late dinner in a fancy restaurant

Dr Zhivago restaurant

Dr Zhivago restaurant

There are not so many other cities with such a big choice of restaurants in a range of tastes and styles. In 2021, the authoritative Michelin guide announced their pick of the best of Moscow’s restaurants. And here’s our guide to all the places with Russian cuisine for any budget. But, if you happen to be in the area of the Bolshoi or Nemirovich-Danchenko Theater, then ‘Dr. Zhivago’ would definitely be a nice option (and it’s open around the clock).

DAY 2

9 am – grab a moscow coffee.

Winter festivities mood in Moscow

Winter festivities mood in Moscow

Moscow is definitely a coffee city! You can find coffee shops on every corner and they all offer a huge range of drinks. Try a ‘raf’ coffee, a sweet, creamy drink that was created in Russia, or dare to pick one of the very unusual offers, like cheese coffee or a Soviet candy style one (check out our coffee guide here ).

10 am – Take a river cruise

Winter boating along the Moskva River

Winter boating along the Moskva River

Another exciting way to explore Moscow is to observe it from the water. Boats cruise along the Moskva River all year round. Most begin their route from the Hotel Ukraine, one of Stalin's ‘Seven Sister’ skyscrapers, and will bring you back to the same spot after passing the medieval Novodevichy Convent, Moscow State University and Luzhniki Stadium, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour and giant monument to Peter the Great and many other sightseeings.

It’s always at optimum temperature inside the boat, which also has huge panoramic windows. Select boats also offer a full dining experience, so it is also a nice place to have breakfast or lunch.

If you are not a water person, then discover other, unusual sides of Moscow – pick one of the activities we’ve prepared for you here !

1 pm – Visit ‘Russia’ Expo and taste a bunch of Russian regional cuisines

Russia Expo at VDNKh

Russia Expo at VDNKh

Until April 2024, the Soviet-era VDNKh exhibition park is hosting the huge ‘Russia’ expo, with tons of activities and expositions devoted to Russia, its culture, science and nature. Check out our special guide on what to do there!

An entire ‘House of Russian Cuisine’ has been opened at the expo. You will find 15 food stands with flagship dishes from Kamchatka, Siberia, Karelia and other regions of Russia. Imagine trying a range of cuisines and dishes in one place without even having to travel anywhere, be it Altai pelmeni, Tula kalach or Caucasian pies! A perfect place to grab some lunch.

The VDNKh exhibition park is a great place to visit, in general! Its pavilions are the perfect example of Stalinit Empire style architecture and you can almost feel as if you’ve traveled back in time! You will also find several interesting museums in the park – devoted to space exploration, Russian history and even a ‘Special Purpose Garage’, which showcases the various vehicles used by the country’s leaders.

'Sun of Moscow' wheel

'Sun of Moscow' wheel

And, finally, you can ride Europe's tallest panoramic wheel – ‘Sun of Moscow’ – that will give you panoramic views of the city – from a height of 140 meters!

5 pm – Ice skate with view & mulled wine

Ice skating rink on Red Square (GUM department store on the background)

Ice skating rink on Red Square (GUM department store on the background)

Ice skating is one of the most popular and affordable activities in Moscow. There are several great ice skating rinks in picturesque locations that are open all winter long. One of the biggest rinks in Europe is also at the aforementioned VDNKh or you can visit the one in Gorky Park, another very popular Moscow spot, or the small, but fancy rink – right on Red Square!

All the parks offer ice skate rental, so the only things you need are warm clothes, a charged phone to record your memories and a good mood!  Moscow also gets dark at 4:30 pm in winter and hundreds of lights are switched on, turning the city into a giant fairy tale!

A mulled wine with a view

And, if you are not a sports person, we’ve picked several other unusual activities that you could do in Moscow instead. For example, did you know that there is an entire district of dacha (countryside) houses, just 10 minutes from the center, surrounded by giant new highrises? How about taking a stroll there and feeling the early Soviet atmosphere?

8 pm – Warm up & laugh out loud

After all these outdoor activities, what could be better than a warm cozy bar with a hot drink and nice company? Moscow is a city full of entertainment for all tastes. So, if you know the Russian language or want to practice it, go to a theater or catch a stand-up comedy show. Moscow even has comedy shows in English, where you can hear both Russians speaking fluent English or foreigners (including Brits and Americans) who live in Russia speaking in broken or heavily-accented Russian (Check their show dates on the ‘ Moscow English Comedy ’ Telegram channel)!

11 pm – Finish by partying the night away!

Propaganda club in Moscow

Propaganda club in Moscow

Moscow never sleeps, as you might have heard. Which means there are plenty of bars and nightclubs where you can have a drink (or two or three; be sure to check out how Russians make Black Russian and White Russian cocktails) and chat with incredibly different people. Have fun and don’t miss your flight (or miss it and stay longer in the best city in the world!)!

That's it! See you soon in Moscow

The Comprehensive Guide to Moscow Nightlife

Moscow’s nightlife scene is thriving, and arguably one of the best the world has to offer – top-notch Russian women, coupled with a never-ending list of venues, Moscow has a little bit of something for everyone’s taste. Moscow nightlife is not for the faint of heart – and if you’re coming, you better be ready to go Friday and Saturday night into the early morning.

This comprehensive guide to Moscow nightlife will run you through the nuts and bolts of all you need to know about Moscow’s nightclubs and give you a solid blueprint to operate with during your time in Moscow.

What you need to know before hitting Moscow nightclubs

Prices in moscow nightlife.

Before you head out and start gaming all the sexy Moscow girls , we have to talk money first. Bring plenty because in Moscow you can never bring a big enough bankroll. Remember, you’re the man so making a fuzz of not paying a drink here or there will not go down well.

Luckily most Moscow clubs don’t do cover fees. Some electro clubs will charge 15-20$, depending on their lineup. There’s the odd club with a minimum spend of 20-30$, which you’ll drop on drinks easily. By and large, you can scope out the venues for free, which is a big plus.

Bottle service is a great deal in Moscow. At top-tier clubs, it starts at 1,000$. That’ll go a long way with premium vodka at 250$, especially if you have three or four guys chipping in. Not to mention that it’s a massive status boost for getting girls, especially at high-end clubs.

Without bottle service, you should estimate a budget of 100-150$ per night. That is if you drink a lot and hit the top clubs with the hottest girls. Scale down for less alcohol and more basic places.

Dress code & Face control

Door policy in Moscow is called “face control” and it’s always the guy behind the two gorillas that gives the green light if you’re in or out.

In Moscow nightlife there’s only one rule when it comes to dress codes:

You can never be underdressed.

People dress A LOT sharper than, say, in the US and that goes for both sexes. For high-end clubs, you definitely want to roll with a sharp blazer and a pocket square, not to mention dress shoes in tip-top condition. Those are the minimum requirements to level the playing field vis a vis with other sharply dressed guys that have a lot more money than you do. Unless you plan to hit explicit electro or underground clubs, which have their own dress code, you are always on the money with that style.

Getting in a Moscow club isn’t as hard as it seems: dress sharp, speak English at the door and look like you’re in the mood to spend all that money that you supposedly have (even if you don’t). That will open almost any door in Moscow’s nightlife for you.

Types of Moscow Nightclubs

In Moscow there are four types of clubs with the accompanying female clientele:

High-end clubs:

These are often crossovers between restaurants and clubs with lots of tables and very little space to dance. Heavy accent on bottle service most of the time but you can work the room from the bar as well. The hottest and most expensive girls in Moscow go there. Bring deep pockets and lots of self-confidence and you have a shot at swooping them.

Regular Mid-level clubs:

They probably resemble more what you’re used to in a nightclub: big dancefloors, stages and more space to roam around. Bottle service will make you stand out more but you can also do well without. You can find all types of girls but most will be in the 6-8 range. Your targets should always be the girls drinking and ideally in pairs. It’s impossible not to swoop if your game is at least half-decent.

Basic clubs/dive bars:

Usually spots with very cheap booze and lax face control. If you’re dressed too sharp and speak no Russian, you might attract the wrong type of attention so be vigilant. If you know the local scene you can swoop 6s and 7s almost at will. Usually students and girls from the suburbs.

Electro/underground clubs:

Home of the hipsters and creatives. Parties there don’t mean meeting girls and getting drunk but doing pills and spacing out to the music. Lots of attractive hipster girls if that is your niche. That is its own scene with a different dress code as well.

What time to go out in Moscow

Moscow nightlife starts late. Don’t show up at bars and preparty spots before 11pm because you’ll feel fairly alone. Peak time is between 1am and 3am. That is also the time of Moscow nightlife’s biggest nuisance: concerts by artists you won’t know and who only distract your girls from drinking and being gamed. From 4am to 6am the regular clubs are emptying out but plenty of people, women included, still hit up one of the many afterparty clubs. Those last till well past 10am.

As far as days go: Fridays and Saturdays are peak days. Thursday is an OK day, all other days are fairly weak and you have to know the right venues.

The Ultimate Moscow Nightclub List

Short disclaimer: I didn’t add basic and electro clubs since you’re coming for the girls, not for the music. This list will give you more options than you’ll be able to handle on a weekend.

Preparty – start here at 11PM

Classic restaurant club with lots of tables and a smallish bar and dancefloor. Come here between 11pm and 12am when the concert is over and they start with the actual party. Even early in the night tons of sexy women here, who lean slightly older (25 and up).

The second floor of the Ugolek restaurant is an extra bar with dim lights and house music tunes. Very small and cozy with a slight hipster vibe but generally draws plenty of attractive women too. A bit slower vibe than Valenok.

Very cool, spread-out venue that has a modern library theme. Not always full with people but when it is, it’s brimming with top-tier women. Slow vibe here and better for grabbing contacts and moving on.

nissan patrol super safari fuel efficiency

High-end: err on the side of being too early rather than too late because of face control.

Secret Room

Probably the top venue at the moment in Moscow . Very small but wildly popular club, which is crammed with tables but always packed. They do parties on Thursdays and Sundays as well. This club has a hip-hop/high-end theme, meaning most girls are gold diggers, IG models, and tattooed hip hop chicks. Very unfavorable logistics because there is almost no room no move inside the club but the party vibe makes it worth it. Strict face control.

Close to Secret Room and with a much more favorable and spacious three-part layout. This place attracts very hot women but also lots of ball busters and fakes that will leave you blue-balled. Come early because after 4am it starts getting empty fast. Electronic music.

A slightly kitsch restaurant club that plays Russian pop and is full of gold diggers, semi-pros, and men from the Caucasus republics. Thursday is the strongest night but that dynamic might be changing since Secret Room opened its doors. You can swoop here but it will be a struggle.

nissan patrol super safari fuel efficiency

Mid-level: your sweet spot in terms of ease and attractiveness of girls for an average budget.

Started going downwards in 2018 due to lax face control and this might get even worse with the World Cup. In terms of layout one of the best Moscow nightclubs because it’s very big and bottle service gives you a good edge here. Still attracts lots of cute girls with loose morals but plenty of provincial girls (and guys) as well. Swooping is fairly easy here.

I haven’t been at this place in over a year, ever since it started becoming ground zero for drunken teenagers. Similar clientele to Icon but less chic, younger and drunker. Decent mainstream music that attracts plenty of tourists. Girls are easy here as well.

Sort of a Coyote Ugly (the real one in Moscow sucks) with party music and lots of drunken people licking each others’ faces. Very entertaining with the right amount of alcohol and very easy to pull in there. Don’t think about staying sober in here, you’ll hate it.

Artel Bessonitsa/Shakti Terrace

Electronic music club that is sort of a high-end place with an underground clientele and located between the teenager clubs Icon and Gipsy. Very good music but a bit all over the place with their vibe and their branding. You can swoop almost any type of girl here from high-heeled beauty to coked-up hipsters, provided they’re not too sober.

nissan patrol super safari fuel efficiency

Afterparty: if by 5AM  you haven’t pulled, it’s time to move here.

Best afterparty spot in terms of trying to get girls. Pretty much no one is sober in there and savage gorilla game goes a long way. Lots of very hot and slutty-looking girls but it can be hard to tell apart who is looking for dick and who is just on drugs but not interested. If by 9-10am you haven’t pulled, it is probably better to surrender.

The hipster alternative for afterparties, where even more drugs are in play. Plenty of attractive girls there but you have to know how to work this type of club. A nicer atmosphere and better music but if you’re desperate to pull, you’ll probably go to Miks.

Weekday jokers: if you’re on the hunt for some sexy Russian girls during the week, here are two tips to make your life easier.

Chesterfield

Ladies night on Wednesdays means this place gets pretty packed with smashed teenagers and 6s and 7s. Don’t pull out the three-piece suit in here because it’s a “simpler” crowd. Definitely your best shot on Wednesdays.

If you haven’t pulled at Chesterfield, you can throw a Hail Mary and hit up Garage’s Black Music Wednesdays. Fills up really late but there are some cute Black Music groupies in here. Very small club. Thursday through Saturday they do afterparties and you have an excellent shot and swooping girls that are probably high.

Shishas Sferum

This is pretty much your only shot on Mondays and Tuesdays because they offer free or almost free drinks for women. A fairly low-class club where you should watch your drinks. As always the case in Moscow, there will be cute girls here on any day of the week but it’s nowhere near as good as on the weekend.

nissan patrol super safari fuel efficiency

In a nutshell, that is all you need to know about where to meet Moscow girls in nightlife. There are tons of options, and it all depends on what best fits your style, based on the type of girls that you’re looking for.
