What our customers say

4.9 stars based on 601 REVIEWS

I thoroughly enjoyed my tour of Japan and would highly recommend All Japan Tours to anyone planning a vacation there. I had so many wonderful experiences during my trip, and got to see many amazing highlights of the country. I thought the guides were exceptional; in particular, Barbara was extremely helpful, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable about Japan.

I think we had some of the best tour guides in all of Japan. Our first tour guide throughout Tokyo his name is Ken is absolutely amazing. Extremely insightful, energetic, friendly, informative, and by the end of our time with him, you genuinely feel like you’ve made a lifelong friend. Ken is somebody I would book with again and again and intend to in the future. I think the only time there was any miscommunication about the tour could’ve been when we went to the studio Gibley Park, because there was miscommunication about which kind of pass we had but aside at the rest of the trip was absolutely wonderful and it’s made me realize how much I love Japan, and intend to come back again and again. I enjoyed the shrines and temples in the castles a lot more than I thought I was going to, and gave me ideas for my next trip, which will be more revolving around the kids. I am absolutely astounded that you guys were even able to help me get concert tickets to a band I’ve been following for over 20 years and was initially sold out on the website so overall, even though we didn’t get through every single thing on the list, I feel like All Japan Tours really went above and beyond. everything from shopping to temples shrines castles just blew my expectations away. I cannot wait to come back to Japan.

Our tour with AJT exceeded my expectations! Our tour guides were wonderful - very knowledgeable, competent, professional, enthusiastic, entertaining and fun (Miharu and Barbara). I loved how both would tell us the history about the places we were visiting while also sharing information about Japanese culture in general and telling us stories about their own day-to-day lives. The buses were clean and comfortable, and all of the experiences were thoroughly enjoyable. The hotels selected by AJT were excellent and of course the food was amazing. All the fun and none of the stress of planning a trip myself!

Great tour, itinerary covered many places in Hokkaido and allowed us to experience the country, the food, the sights, the nature unique to Hokkaido. We can still see the lovely cherry blossoms despite the tail end of the blooming season because of the locations include in the itinerary. The food included in the tour covered a wide variety of Japanese food, seafood was yummy, cooking style, ice creams, etc. Delicious. The accommodations hotel were great, all hotels offered great breakfast, and dinner, especially the Hilton Niseko Village hotel. The hot spring baths in the hotel offered an opportunity to experience this unique culture in Japan. The tour manager Trend San did an outstanding job in guiding us, very informative on all aspects of Japan, patient, resourceful, polite and respectful and accommodating to the specific needs of all members in the group. The driver, I apologized for forgetting his name was an excellent driver, careful and drove us to all our destinations safely and on time. We highly recommend this tour to all. We will also consider using AJT for all future tours to visit other parts of Japan. All in all, this was a memorable tour. Thanks. Also, thanks for the customer service in our booking and follow up on all our questions.

It was a great tour and included everything we wanted to see during the 11 days of touring. The Tour Leader (Kim) and our Drive (Bamboo San) were outstanding.

Japan Autumn Leaves Guide

Autumn leaves in Japan are almost as popular as the cherry blossom season. Kōyō is the Japanese word for autumn leaves. Kōyō and momiji (maple leaves) use the same kanji and has been that way since the Heian Period.

Trip Planning FAQs

The best travel style for you will depend on your personal travel preferences and budget. Group tours are popular because they are more cost-effective than private tours , more hassle-free, and offer the chance for friendship within tour groups. Most of our group tours use a private coach for sightseeing, your driver will take you to the closest parking and you just need to walk to each destination from there. A private coach is a more flexible and a more hassle free way to visit Japan, this allows you to see as much of Japan as stress-free as possible. Private tours are often more costly, but offer full control of the travel pace and the sights you want to see, at the budget you set. If you would like to travel at your own pace, then custom private tours are for you. For a small group of 2 or 3 people, public transportation is the most cost efficient way to travel Japan. However, there is a lot of walking if you travel by public transportation since some attractions are far from the station, you will need extra days to visit the same sites compared to our group tours , and also you will need to able to walk 3-5 miles per day. We can also offer private tours by using private van. If you are looking for a private tour for 2 people with the same quality as our group tours , it will cost almost double the price. The larger the group size, the lower the cost per person.

Japan is a country with more places to see than might be expected of its size. For first-time travelers to Japan, the cities of Tokyo , Hakone , Mount Fuji , Takayama , Kanazawa , Nara , Kyoto , and Hiroshima are most recommended. Tokyo's glittering lights, tall skyscrapers, fine dining, and cultural experiences make it the number one place to visit. Kyoto is a must-see for its ancient temples, shrines, and gardens. It is also one of the best places for a spring cherry blossom tour . First time travelers enjoy Hakone and Mount Fuji's natural beauty, and a tour to see the autumn leaves in fall is especially lovely. Nara is near Kyoto and a top city for temples and beautiful nature. If you have enough time, go to Takayama and Shirakawago for ancient Japan historical sites and an authentic cultural experience, and go to Hiroshima for a walk in the Peace Park, past the A-Bomb Dome. More time means you can visit all the best Japanese cities!

A second trip is the perfect chance to explore a more real, authentic Japan atmosphere. The most recommended destinations for a second-time traveler to Japan are Tohoku , Hokkaido , Kyushu , and Okinawa . Take a trip out of central Honshu to visit the Tohoku region, where you can see the Aomori Nebuta Festival and the Sendai Tanabata fireworks in an exciting summer tour . Venture off the main island to the beautiful nature landscapes up in Hokkaido . Go down into Shikoku to discover the amazing treasures of Naoshima Art Island and the local Awa Odori dance festival of Tokushima . Go further south into Kyushu for the shrine at Takachiho or the Hidden Christian Sites at Nagasaki . Second-time travelers will enjoy a summer vacation in Japan to Okinawa's beautiful, perfect beaches. Japan has endless destinations to appeal to the second time traveler!

The prices will range widely depending on the destinations, duration, and your demands for comfort. Let's take one of the most popular itineraries as an example - a 7-day tour to Tokyo , Hakone , Mt Fuji , Kyoto , Nara and Osaka . For 2 people staying in 4-star accommodations, it will cost about US$3500 per person as a private Japan land tour , using public transportation (bullet train, local train, subway and taxi). If you join in a group tour with a similar itinerary, the trip usually costs about US$2700 per person. No matter how much you want to spend on a trip, as the best Japan tour company, we are always happy to tailor make a private tour itinerary that best fits your needs. In addition, our early bird discount can also help you save more.

The length of the trip will depend on the destinations and how much of Japan you want to see. For a single city vacation package ( Tokyo or Kyoto ), two to three days are required. If you want to visit three to four cities ( Tokyo , Mt Fuji , Kyoto & Nara ), you will need around one week. A 10-day Japan vacation package usually would cover five to six cities ( Tokyo , Mt Fuji , Kyoto , Nara , Osaka & Hiroshima ). For a two-week trip to Japan, you can add Takayama , Shirakawa-go , and Kanazawa to the popular sights in central Japan.

Yes, we do. Through our sister company, All Asia Tours, we offer group tour packages to China, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, and can arrange private tour packages to any country in Asia that interests you. Starting with one of our Japan tour itineraries that take you through Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, you can connect it to an extension in Korea to savor a bowl of spicy kimchi, or to China to walk atop the Great Wall outside Beijing. If you want to travel anywhere in Asia, All Japan Tours can plan a tour to suit your needs.

Any time of the year is the best time to visit Japan! In March and April, you can see beautiful cherry blossoms, in May there are seasonal flowers, such as Wisteria, Baby blue eyes, and shibazakura (phlox moss). The summer months from June to August is the best time for festivals like Awa Odori, and there are amazing fireworks festivals, too. In Hokkaido, fields of lavenders are in bloom at this time, as well as many other summer flowers. Autumn is the best time to see the bright autumn leaves, as the fall foliage changes to vibrant colors, and winter is good for the Sapporo Snow Festival, skiing in the mountains, and seeing snow monkeys! We have group tours available in every season, and can plan a private tour around your schedule.

You can see the cherry blossoms at different times in spring, depending on where you travel - earlier in the south, and later as you move north. Southern to Central Japan sees cherry blossoms from late March to mid April. This is the perfect time to see the pretty pink flowers anywhere from Nagasaki and Fukuoka to Kyoto's Maruyama Park, all the way over to popular Ueno Park in Tokyo. The Tohoku region's cherry blossoms bloom around late April, if you travel up to Sendai or Morioka. Up in Hokkaido, late April to early May is the perfect time for a stroll in a park in Hakodate or Sapporo to see the famous cherry blossoms.

Japan is great for families! It is one of the safest countries in the world, and offers a range of attractions to appeal to both children and adults. Kids who like anime will love Akihabara Electric Town and The Ghibli Museum. You could plan some Disney days to enjoy at Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea, or include some time at Universal Studios Japan in your itinerary. Families can also enjoy Japanese culture together, including a Ninja Mansion, watching sumo or learning how to make sushi. We can help to plan an itinerary that is sure to provide endless amusement for the kids, without leaving adults and seniors out of the fun!

Yes, it is. Japan offers some of the most breathtakingly romantic locations on the planet, more Michelin star restaurants than any other country, luxurious hotels and ryokans with onsen baths, along with memorable cultural experiences you can't find in any other honeymoon destination! We can even arrange an authentic Japanese wedding ceremony at a Shinto shrine, officiated by priest or priestess. Plan a honeymoon trip with seasonal scenery that will stand out in the honeymoon photos, like spring cherry blossoms, autumn leaves, or snow-capped mountains. There are also a range of cultural activities that couples can enjoy, like tea ceremony, ikebana flower arranging, nature hikes, and more!

It depends how far in advance you prefer to plan. We book last-minute trips all the time, and also arrange tours that are planned years in advance. We then book all services and generally have confirmations within 24 hours, depending on the extent of your services.

Culture and customs.

Japan is a multifaceted country made up of many different cultures, rituals, and traditions influenced by Confucianism (introduced in AD285), Buddhism (introduced in AD552), and Shintoism (Japan’s ritualistic native religion). The rise of technology and international trendsetting has also played a part in the culture of Japan today as the younger generation embraces fashion-forwardness, online personas, and high-tech gadgets.

This is in direct contrast to the Confucian-influenced, old-school Japanese culture that the older generations still live by, with a larger emphasis on modesty, respect, and discipline. This can sometimes cause conflict between the two demographics, however, there are still some traditions that are considered sacred regardless of age – tea ceremonies, bowing, kendo, geisha, and sumo.

Visit ancient temples and walk history-laden pilgrim routes on a 8 day Koya-san & Kumano Trek.

History and government

Japan has had an interesting past with its ancient history, pre-modern history, and 20th-century history, all influencing the country we all know and love today.

Ancient history

While there is evidence the archipelago has been occupied by humans for around 35,000 years, what we know now as ‘Japan’ began to take shape about 1700 years ago as disparate tribes started to unify.

Pre-modern history

Over the centuries, Japan has alternated between feudal, empirical, religious, and government rule, with each period birthing different styles of art, architecture, and spirituality. Buddhism and Confucianism, introduced in 552 BC and AD 285, respectively, both proved massively influential on the class structures and governance of pre-modern Japan. You can still visit and stay in many Buddhist temples in Japan today.

20th century

It’s difficult to discuss the emergence of modern Japan without talking about WWII. During the war, the Empire of Japan used aggressive military tactics in an attempt to expand its reach and control in Asia and elsewhere. In response, the US Army instigated a strategic bombing campaign that included the notorious use of nuclear weapons in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The result of these attacks was mass human and structural devastation.

These bombings, along with depleted armed forces and the looming threat of invasion from the Soviet Union, led the Empire of Japan to surrender unconditionally to the Allies in September 1945.

The ‘Empire of Japan’ became ‘Japan’ as part of the extensive terms of surrender, and the nation faced the prospect of rebuilding and reinventing itself in the second half of the 20th century.

Reflect on the historic and sobering sites of Hiroshima and Nagasaki while on an 24 day Ultimate Japan tour.

After WWII, Japan found its feet operating as a free-market economy based around the manufacture and export of automobiles and electronics, experiencing particularly rapid growth between 1960 and the late 1980s. The late 20th century saw the country emerge as an economic superpower, and with that came the flourishing of several cultural sectors, such as the arts and cuisine.

Experience Japan's historic sites on a 13 day Land of the Rising Sun tour.

Top places to visit in Japan

One minute you’re walking through a former black-market quarter, the next, you’re paying your respects at a 1400-year-old temple. Eclectic Tokyo is an essential part of any visit to Japan. Wander through the streets of Tokyo on our 12 day Classic Japan tour.

If you’ve ever eaten at a sushi train restaurant, you’ve got the underrated city of Osaka to thank! The motto in this city is 'kuidaore', which roughly translates as ‘eat until you drop’ . You can consider that a (friendly) order. Experience Osaka on our 12 day Japan Family Holiday.

The home of temples, palaces, and the Gion district (where geisha live and work), Kyoto is also where you’ll find the famed Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine. Spot Geisha in Kyoto on our 9 day Japan Express tour.

4. Kanazawa

A great place to see a slice of old Japan, with classic sculpted gardens, a restored Old Town, and well-preserved architecture from a variety of eras. Explore Kanazawa on our 11 day Cycle Japan tour or on our 10 day Essential Japan adventure.

5. Hiroshima

Most travelers visit Hiroshima to see the Peace Memorial Park, constructed around the hypocentre of the atomic bomb that destroyed the city in 1945. Follow this up with nearby Miyajima, a tranquil island where tame deer roam the streets.

6. Yudanaka

This quaint resort town is best experienced in the winter, when snow coats the normally evergreen trees and Japanese macaques come down from the mountains to bathe and groom each other in the steaming natural hot springs of Jigokudani (Hell Valley).

Geography and environment

Japan is an archipelago of more than 6000 islands located in the Pacific Ocean in Asia . The main islands are Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu and Shikoku. Lying on the Pacific Ring of Fire, Japan is prone to destructive earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanic activity. The most famous volcano, Mount Fuji , is also Japan's highest peak and only 100km from Tokyo.

Japan has plenty of forested, mountainous terrain that is unsuitable for agriculture and development, so much of the population lives in the coastal cities. This has led Japan to become one of the most densely populated countries in the world and the majority of its inhabitants are used to living in very small spaces, with a heavy reliance on public transport.

Although life is fast-paced and crowded in cities like Tokyo and Osaka, rural areas typically feature low-density, traditional housing and a slower pace of life surrounded by greenery such as lush forests and plenty of moss-covered boulders.

Traverse mountains, cycle coastlines, and meander through forests on a 12 day Japan: Hike, Bike and Kayak tour.

Shopping in Japan is fun but expensive, so be sure to have a budget for souvenirs planned in advance! In cities like Tokyo, there are loads of quirky stores and funky galleries showcasing the works of independent fashion designers and gadget creators. From the outlandish to the kitsch, you're guaranteed to find loads of colorful clothing and edgy art that you won't be able to find elsewhere.

If you’re planning to bring back leaf tea or any other perishable or edible items, it's a good idea to check with your local customs officials to ensure that you are able to bring certain items back into your home country. Australia and New Zealand, in particular, have strict quarantine laws.

What to buy

  • Kimonos This quintessential Japanese souvenir looks great hung on the wall as an interesting decorative piece. If you plan on wearing one, make sure you do so respectfully and learn the correct way to fold the garment.
  • Paper lanterns, kites and fans Japanese paper goods make great, relatively inexpensive souvenirs. Choose from high-quality, traditionally-made kites or delicate rice paper lanterns.
  • Electronics Shops in Japan are bursting with the latest tech gadgets. Just be sure to check that they are compatible for use at home.
  • Fashion Have fun with the amazing diversity of popular street culture fashion available in Japan. Vibrant, brash and sometimes bizarre – find something that no one back at home will be wearing.
  • Anime and manga paraphernalia Another inexpensive gift option, even for people who can’t read Japanese. Pick up a book, magazine, t-shirt or print from one of Japan’s many anime and manga stores.

Festivals and events

If you want an adventure with a point of difference, consider planning your travels to coincide with these popular festive events in Japan.

Sapporo Winter Festival

Held every February since 1950, this festival features hundreds of statues and ice sculptures, snow slides and mazes, regional food and artistic performances. Winter in Japan is truly amazing, and the Sapporo Winter Festival is a magical way to celebrate.

Hadaka Matsuri

Head to Okayama to watch thousands of men wearing nothing but loincloths vie to touch the chosen 'naked man'. It may look like a bizarre male-bonding exercise but it's actually a historic cleansing ritual dating back thousands of years. Dates change yearly.

Fuji Rock Festival

Held annually in the stunning surroundings of the Naeba Ski Resort, this outdoor music festival is huge and draws in big-name acts and local bands Thousands of music lovers flock to Naeba for three days of camping, music and partying in the summer months.

Is tipping customary in Japan?

Tipping isn't customary in Japan and is not expected – in fact, it will sometimes be considered impolite. Some inns or ryokans may leave a small envelope in your room where a small gratuity can be left for housekeeping staff.

What is the internet access like in Japan?

Internet access is excellent in Japan, with one of the most developed high-speed internet networks in the world. Internet cafes and wi-fi hotspots are easily found in most cities and major towns.

Can I use my cell while in Japan?

Cell phone coverage is excellent in Japan but be aware that talking loudly on your phone in public places (like in train carriages) is frowned upon. You will be expected to hide your mouth behind your hand if you must take a call in public. If you want to use your cell phone, ensure global roaming is activated before you arrive (but be aware of the fees this may incur).

What are the toilets like in Japan?

In Japan, toilets range from high-tech bidets to standard western-style flushable toilets to squat toilets, which are still common outside the city. Sometimes you may need to pay for toilet paper, which can usually be purchased from a vending machine nearby.

Can I drink the water in Japan?

Drinking water from taps in Japan is considered safe. For environmental reasons, try to use a refillable water bottle rather than buying bottled water. Major cities often have water fountains in train stations.

Are credit cards widely accepted in Japan?

Major credit cards are accepted by some stores; however, Japan is still very much a cash culture and as such, some places may not accept credit cards. Ensure you carry enough cash to cover purchases.

What is ATM access like in Japan?

ATMs are common in Japan but unfortunately many of them don't accept foreign-issued cards. However, you can access cash from non-Japanese bank accounts via the Cirrus and Maestro systems at all post office ATMs around the country, as well as ATMs at 7-Eleven convenience stores.

When is the best time to travel to Japan?

There’s never a bad time to travel to Japan but the months that see the most travelers are March, April, and May as the weather is mild and the cherry blossoms are in full bloom. The warm weather (with low humidity levels) of September, October, and November are also suitable months to visit Japan – you’ll even be treated to landscapes colored with oranges, reds, and browns for autumn. While winter can be cold, this is the best time for snow activities such as skiing, snowboarding, and snow festivals. On the other hand, the summer months see high humidity levels that can leave some travelers uncomfortable.

What is the weather like in Japan?

  • Spring (March to May): temperatures range from 50 to 68°F, with conditions getting sunnier and clearer towards the end of the season.
  • Summer (June to August): temperatures range from 70 to 90°F depending on where you are. It’s warmer in the south than in the north. You can expect some rain in June, and it can get quite humid towards the end of the season.
  • Fall (September to November): temperatures range from 45 to 68°F. The humidity starts to calm down in September, but days stay warm until October. Nights can be chilly.
  • Winter (December to February): break out the coats, temperatures during winter range from 32 to 59°F. The mountains and the north experience snowfall .

How safe is Japan?

Japan is generally safe and is rated among the safest countries in the world. Reports of crime such as theft are very low and travelers are often stunned by the fact that locals leave belongings unaccompanied in cafes and bars (though we certainly don’t recommend it!).

Is Japan safe for LGBTQIA+ travelers?

LGBTQIA+ travelers shouldn’t have any issues visiting Japan with violence, outright hostility or overt discrimination extremely rare. However, Japan’s older generation still holds conservative values when it comes to LGBTQIA+ sexuality and non-binary gender expression, especially those that live in regional areas.

Same-sex relationships are considered legal in some districts (such as Tokyo); however, same-sex marriage hasn’t been legalized yet. Public displays of affection are often frowned upon, regardless of sex, gender, or sexual orientation so keep that in mind when you’re out in public.

For more detailed and up-to-date advice, we recommend visiting  Equaldex  or  ILGA  before you travel.

Is Japan accessible for travelers with disabilities?

Intrepid is committed to making travel widely accessible, regardless of ability or disability. That’s why we do our best to help as many people see the world as possible, regardless of any physical or mental limitations they might have. We’re always happy to talk to travelers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them towards the most suitable itinerary for their needs and, where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.

The needs of travelers with mobility issues, including wheelchair users, are considered in the infrastructure in major cities. Train stations have lifts (elevators), wide turnstiles and (for the most part) raised platforms so that wheelchair users can glide onto the train without being assisted.  Sidewalks in Japanese cities are sometimes sloped towards the road, which can make traveling a straight line difficult for wheelchair users or people with vision impairment.

It is common practice in Japan to remove shoes when entering a home. Wheelchair users should carry something to wipe down their wheels in respect of this custom. Apply the same logic for other mobility aids such as canes.

Ryokans and other traditional accommodation can be difficult to navigate for people with limited mobility, but accessible hotel options are plentiful in the major cities.

Travelers with vision impairment may find the tactile yellow strips that guide the way to various places in train stations helpful, though please note that there is no barrier between the train tracks and platforms.

If you have a battery-operated hearing aid, it’s a good idea to bring extra batteries or familiarise yourself with the Japanese equivalent of the batteries it takes.

If you do live with a visual, hearing or other impairment, let your booking agent or group leader know early on so they’re aware and suitable arrangements can be made. As a general rule, knowing some common words in the local language, carrying a written itinerary with you and taking to the streets in a group, rather than solo, can help make your travel experience the best it can be.

What should I wear in Japan?

Summer months can be incredibly hot and sticky, so loose, lightweight and breathable clothing is essential.

Spring and autumn can be crisp and cold, so you might want to pack thermal layers in addition to your coat and boots.

Outside of Hokkaido and the mountains, the winter temperatures in Japan are manageable as long as you have regular cold-weather clothes like a good coat, pair of gloves, a winter hat and a scarf.

The style of dress common for women in Japan may be a little more covered up than you are used to, particularly outside the major cities.

Packing comfortable trousers is essential as you may find yourself sitting cross-legged on the floor during your stay.

What are some common phrases/words I should learn before my trip to Japan?

Having a basic understanding of the language and culture of the country you're visiting can go a long way when it comes to, not only communicating efficiently but your overall trip experience as well. Some common phrases you need to learn are:

  • 'hello' - Konnichiwa
  • 'good morning' - Ohayō
  • 'thank you' - Arigatou Gozaimasu

Too many add-on costs for 'optional' tours. Too many 'free' days in Tokyo...there should have been more organised tours.
We were disappointed from before the start of the tour since Stunning contacted us to tell us we were being moved from our tour to a different one. Our 8 day Delight included Hiroshima and the Hemiji castle and a sake brewery tour in Kobe. We were only refunded $200 and the optional tour from the new Splendid tour had Hiroshima at $335 so this was hardly comparable nor fairly compensated. In order to validate my credentials for reviewing land tours I do want you to know I have been on three Gate1 tours (one to Ireland, one to Spain and one to Russia) and a Penguin tour to the Balkans. The prices were similar to what we paid for the Stunning tour. Stunning did not provide the same level of amenities that these other tours provided. On a positive note, our guide Rena was friendly and had a decent command of English and seemingly Japanese and the hotels were fine and the bus driver safe. But Rena did not provide in-bus commentary such as historical or economic perspectives about Japan. She also did not accompany us on our local excursions so we did not receive any information about the temples or the ancient cities of Naraijuku (in fact, she just said to go on our own since she had seen it all before). With other companies if the main tour coordinator was not with the group then a local guide was hired (at no extra expense to us). There were no earbuds and radio devices given to us so we could walk along on the excursions and hear about the sites we were encountering. I also expect to receive suggestions about restaurants in the area and other sites nearby the hotel and did not. I did all of my own research to supplement our stays. Also, there was no wifi on the bus. And on occasion we had to plead for a toilet stop. The bus driver kept the air conditioner too cold (said it was needed so we did not steam up the windows). I also could not understand the extra hour drive to and from Nagano just to spend the night between Nagoya and Yamanashi (Matsumoto would have cut 2 hours out of the time on the bus). I am sorry to say that I would not recommend Stunning to others nor use them again in my travels.

This tour is very expensive for what you actually get, as nearly all of the travel is on public transport which is very time consuming. So much time was taken up on public transport that there was not enough time to explore the places we visited.
The accommodations were good the food was excellent and the tour was exactly what I wanted it was an active tour that we spent most of our time out doors and in smaller cities and towns Our tour guide Toshi was excellent

Fantastic tour taking in so many sights and experiences of Japan. Very well organised and our tour guide, Jonny, was a legend. Couldn't ask for a nicer guy to lead the group!
For other travelers, half the days you will be waking up early and moving to get to a location, you'll be eating breakfast Lawson's most days if you wake up close to the leave time like I did. Be friendly the first day since you'll be with the tour group for awhile. We didn't really bond until the end so the second half was much better for sure. Also, at the 10,000 tori gates you can make it to the top and back within the allotted time if you stay focused and keep moving. If you like Pokemon, the shirts in the shops are custom made and you'll want to get the by opening to get one. Osaka is the best for Pokemon cards. Enjoy your time, days move quick

The tour organizer has very, very poor communication, planning and organizational skills. The final itinerary was sent 2weeks before the start of the actual trip, I have to remind them by email to send it to us asap as they promised it will be sent a month before the actual trip. We where told initially that they will arrange our airport transfer and have told them we will be arriving two days before the actual tour, but after days before we've been told that we have to do it ourselves. The two hotel from original itinerary was changed on the final one provided so it caused some confusion on our side. Their representative met with us on the first day of the tour to sort out our JR. Pass and it took 2hours of our precious time to do this, we almost missed the pre-booked museum that day. Their hotel choices where below average, first one is in Ikeburo with bfast included but only seaweed soup and toast where given, again we have to travel to Shinjuku station to get the train to Hakone (very inconvenient), they could just chosen a hotel in Shinjuku instead. In the morning next we arrived in Hakone, we supposed to drop off our luggage at the next hotel to free our hands to roam around the area and found that it was closed and nobody around to asked for information so we have to dragged our luggage back to the station to put them in the locker. I have contacted their representative but he even asked me the name of the hotel (unbelievable, how could he not know all this details). They replied around 2.30ish pm and was told it was unmanned and we where given a PIN number to access, again they should have known this important details and informed us even the day/night before the trip. The next day we travelled again to Kyoto, to avoid the hassle of dropping off our luggage palarva we've decided to use the coin lockers at the station. It was late in the afternoon when we arrived at the hotel the receptionist asked us to pay City Tax 1200yen for 3nights stay, this again we where unaware of. I messaged the representative and to the people on the WhatsApp group and question about this city tax, they said they will refund me with the money so no choice I have paid.Again breakfast was included but only varieties of bread available and some butter and jams and coffee or water. Unsatisfied again. On arrival at Hiroshima after 3days this is where the confusion happens as the name of the hotel was different on the final itinerary they've sent us (this was our mistake we owned this as we didn't checked the final itinerary). We've only stayed at the Flex hotel (supposed to be two nights) for a night as wanting to have more time in Osaka instead (paid privately for one night
I recently took a trip to Japan and visited Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Osaka, and I can confidently say it was one of the best travel experiences I've ever had! The tours were fantastic and provided great insights into each city's culture and history. The transportation was also very reliable, making it easy to get around from one city to another. The accommodations were top-notch, with comfortable rooms and excellent service. I highly recommend booking a trip to Japan with Bamba and experiencing all that it has to offer!

Much improved. I have been to Japan twice now both times with Discovi and this was by far the best trip I could have imagined. There are new guides all local Japanese every single one of them is amazing (Shinya was exceptional!) and a brand new Hotel not a hostal like before but even the hostal option is better this time. But the hotel has breakfast and it was AMAZING a mix of Japanese and American food. Great start to the day. And the PUB CRAWL!! Crazy night so much fun, thanks Discovi!
I expected this to be more touristy but I WAS SO SHOCKED This is a local tour! I felt like we had the nicest guides all Japanese and they knew so many little spots that you would never find yourself! Take this tour if you want to see the real Japan

The tour was excellent, especially the English guider, Louis, from Kyoto until end of my tour. However, the English guider from Tokyo to Kyoto was weak and the Spanish Guider had to take care of both groups.
On our first trip to Japan we hope we get on overview to the Japanese country and landscape . Unfortunately the tour running from one overcrowded tourist hot spot to the next. Every morning the to large group of 40 people was reassembled and got a new guide. is was The tour with more stressful than enjoyable. Some of the guides have a hard to understand dialect when speaking English The explanation to the place of interest comes in 3 minutes English and 15 minutes Spain. Never again

I was traveling with my spouse, tween, and 70+ year-old parents. We visited during the busy cherry blossom season. We were lucky as we arrived during the peak of this season and cherry blossoms were abundant. It was also quite crowded, so I appreciated my family having our own guide (versus being part of a bigger tour group). Also, it was nice to be picked up at the airport so that we didn't have to find our way around a foreign country upon arrival. I think the value was good considering it included the hotel, entrance fees to places visited, and public transportation fares. It was nice not to have to worry about the logistics of getting from one place to another in a foreign country. Our online tour consultant was very responsive and helpful. Also, the guides were knowledgeable, kind, and accommodating. The biggest challenge is that the days involved quite a bit of walking, which was difficult for my elderly parents. If I convince them to go on another trip, I would add in more leisurely days. Maybe that's my fault for not asking for some lighter days. I'm a bit torn because as a traveler, you do want to make the most of each day you are there to visit all the beautiful sites; but, it can also be exhausting. This also meant having to lug luggage around various trains to the various destinations. We stayed in four different hotels as we traveled across Japan. It was a packed itinerary; we were able to see a lot in a short amount of time. Over the course of five days, we visited Tokyo, Mt. Fuji, Nara, Kyoto, Hiroshima, & Miyajima Island. Overall, an excellent trip that provided a snapshot of Japan. I would rate it four and a half stars if I could (but only whole stars were allowed). I recommend it for most families (including those with little ones and elderly); I would just add more rest days/free time (or fewer site visits per day), especially if you have members in your party that are young or elderly. Also, if you have members that have mobility issues (such as those in a wheelchair), I would work with the tour consultant as there were places that would be difficult to access. My consultant was great; I just don't think I took advantage of having chosen a “private, tailor-made" tour as much as I should have. I relied and trusted the recommendations. To be clear, their recommendations were all top notch, I just should have taken my family's (which included elderly parents) abilities more into account and been more vocal with what would be best to accommodate my specific family's needs.
Excellent customer service. Very efficient and responsive. Guides were informative. Thank you. I’ll be using your travel again. Highly recommend.

The trip itinerary was a blast! It showcased so many amazing locations and activities that Japan has to offer while giving you a good chunk of free time to explore on your own if you'd like. Zoe Belcher was an amazing guide always keeping things running smoothly on time with a smile on her face and always ready to snap a picture to capture the memories of the trip forever. Highly recommend the Japan trip and Zoe as a tour guide!
The trip and our group leader were great! Interesting sites and activities. Meg has helped me with my vegan diet in japan, because it's not been that easy in that country like in germany. We had a lot of fun!

First tour guide for the first 8 days was great, second tour guide tried hard and seemed lovely as a person, but she was disorganized, oblivious of who was or wasn’t following her, was unaware of where she was going at times, and just didn’t seem like she knew how to do the job. I’m not the only one who felt that way. Your pre trip support was excellent and accommodating, but having taken a number of tours with other organizations, Rick steve’s in Europe, you charge a lot when offering very little. I will not recommend your tour group to anyone, and will most likely discourage others from taking one.

She was knowledgeable, helpful, funny, kind and incredibly hardworking. I can't speak too highly of her. The food and accommodation surpassed my expectations as did the way the s company structured the tour. I highly recommend the Japan tour with Eriko.

Our only gripe was the long bus trips involved at the beginning and end of each day. Kohei, our guide, was outstanding. He let us experience many aspects of Japanese culture, and he became as much a friend as a guide.
My husband and I went on the World Expiditions Back Roads of Japan Tour last year, and were extremely disappointed in the quality of guide provided. The guide had never done the tour, had never even been to half the places on the itinerary and was a complete loose cannon, on two occasions taking elicit drugs and drinking to the point of being unable to function. When the entire tour group sent complaints following the completion of the tour, World Expeditions were elusive and largely uncommunicative, and offered us all an insulting refund of about 12% of our tour cost. Needless to say, we will not be taking or recommending World Expeditions tours in the future.

We had an amazing holiday. Japan was all we had hoped for. The group worked so well, we all got on and became good friends. Shingo, our guide was totally great. He was so pleasant and helpful. His English not brilliant but he did a great job. We felt maybe a little more information on places and sights might have been good. He was constantly helping us all and looking after us. He made great suggestions for meals and always checked up on us all, even when we split into smaller groups for the evening. He went way beyond what he could have done and made everyone feel safe and well looked after. He even helped booking all our onward travel and ensured we were all ok on the day. Wonderful man!! The hotels were nice, if a little small with almost no storage in most of them! Breakfasts were generally very good. We saw and did so much. In fact, we felt sometimes it was a little too much to fit into each day, and either missed some things out or were too rushed, missing stopping and looking at leisure at things and shops etc. Shingo was so patient, even when we caused him to run a little late! Due to distances covered we spent a lot of time travelling which was an interesting experience. Just meant time at destinations was a little short. As Most of us were older we all felt very tired at the end of each day and struggled especially when we had to carry back packs whilst waiting to be reunited with luggage. Dont know what the answer is, if extra days added, then expense goes up. If itinerary cut back, then Interesting sights missed out! Overall, a truly great trip. We enjoyed it all!
Excellent trip with a full itinerary, make sure that you are fit as there is a lot of walking involved and jumping on and off public transport which can be exciting. Exciting and delicious food, fascinating people, customs history and traditions.Totally enjoyed the trip!! Highly recommended.

As the world slowly adapts to the new normal brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, international travel has become more challenging. Many countries now require travelers to provide a negative COVID-19 test result before they can enter.

Japan, a popular destination for travelers from all over the world, has implemented strict guidelines for entry. One of the requirements for entering Japan is to provide a negative COVID-19 test result, and recently, rapid PCR tests have been accepted as a valid method for obtaining this result.

PCR tests are considered the gold standard for COVID-19 testing, as they can detect the presence of the virus in a person's body. Traditional PCR tests usually take 24 to 48 hours to produce results. However, thanks to advancements in testing technology, rapid PCR tests are now available, which can provide results in as little as 30 minutes.

Rapid PCR tests work in a similar way to traditional PCR tests. A nasal or throat swab is taken from the person being tested, and the sample is then processed using a PCR machine. This machine amplifies the genetic material in the sample to detect the presence of the virus. The rapid PCR tests use the same technology as traditional tests, but they have been optimized to produce quicker results.

If you are planning to travel to Japan, it is important to note that not all rapid PCR tests are accepted. The test must be performed by a certified medical professional or testing facility, and the results must be provided on an official letterhead. Additionally, the results must be in English or Japanese. It is recommended to check with the Japanese embassy or consulate in your country for the most up-to-date requirements and a list of accepted testing facilities.

Before traveling, it is crucial to schedule your rapid PCR test in advance. Some testing facilities may have limited capacity or specific operating hours, so it is important to plan accordingly. Make sure to bring all necessary documents, such as your passport and flight details, as well as any forms or paperwork required by the testing facility.

While rapid PCR tests are a convenient option for travelers, it is still important to follow all recommended health and safety guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Remember to wear a mask, practice social distancing, and follow local regulations at all times.

In conclusion, rapid PCR tests are now accepted for travel to Japan as a valid method for obtaining a negative COVID-19 test result. However, it is crucial to ensure that the test is performed by a certified medical professional or testing facility and that the results are provided on an official letterhead in English or Japanese. It is always recommended to check with the Japanese embassy or consulate in your country for the most up-to-date requirements. By following the necessary steps and precautions, you can travel to Japan safely and responsibly.

If you're planning to travel to Japan, it's important to be aware of the country's requirements and acceptance of rapid PCR tests. As of now, rapid PCR tests are not accepted for entry into Japan. Let's take a closer look at the requirements and testing options you have.

Japan has implemented strict measures to control the spread of COVID-19, including mandatory testing for travelers. The Japanese government requires a negative PCR test result to enter the country. However, Japan only accepts PCR tests that meet specific requirements.

PCR tests, or polymerase chain reaction tests, are widely recognized as the gold standard for COVID-19 testing. These tests detect the presence of the virus by amplifying its genetic material. The results are highly accurate and reliable.

In Japan, the PCR test must be conducted within 72 hours prior to your departure. It is essential to obtain the test result before your flight and ensure it meets the specified timeframe. It's important to note that rapid PCR tests, which provide results within a short period of time, are not currently accepted for entry into Japan.

When getting tested, make sure that the test is conducted by a certified medical facility or laboratory. The results must be provided in English or Japanese. If your test results are not in one of these languages, it is highly recommended to obtain a certified translation. This is crucial to ensure smooth entry into Japan.

Additionally, travelers are required to submit a health questionnaire and download a contact tracing app on their mobile devices. These measures are part of the Japanese government's efforts to monitor and control the spread of COVID-19.

It's important to stay updated on the latest travel requirements and restrictions for Japan. The situation may change, so it's crucial to check the official websites of the Japanese government and your airline for the most up-to-date information. Make sure to plan ahead and allow sufficient time for testing and obtaining the required paperwork.

In summary, Japan currently does not accept rapid PCR tests for entry. It is important to get a regular PCR test within 72 hours of your departure and ensure that the test results are obtained from a certified medical facility in either English or Japanese. Stay informed and follow the guidelines provided by the Japanese government and your airline to ensure a smooth and safe journey.

Top Destinations for Solo Travelers in May

As the world grapples with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, COVID-19 testing has become an essential aspect of international travel. When it comes to testing methods, the rapid PCR test has gained significant attention due to its quicker turnaround time compared to traditional PCR tests. In this blog post, we will compare rapid PCR tests with other COVID-19 testing methods to help you make an informed decision for your travel to Japan.

Rapid PCR test:

  • Turnaround time: The rapid PCR test provides results in a matter of hours, often within 30 minutes to 2 hours.
  • Accuracy: Rapid PCR tests have shown comparable accuracy to traditional PCR tests with a sensitivity and specificity of more than 95%.
  • Travel requirements: As of now, rapid PCR tests are generally not accepted as standalone tests for travel to Japan. Most countries, including Japan, require a standard RT-PCR test conducted within 72 hours before departure.

Traditional PCR test:

  • Turnaround time: Traditional PCR tests usually have a longer turnaround time, ranging from 24 to 48 hours or even more.
  • Accuracy: Traditional PCR tests are considered the gold standard and have high accuracy rates, with sensitivity and specificity exceeding 99%.
  • Travel requirements: The standard RT-PCR test is widely accepted for travel to Japan. The test should be conducted within 72 hours before departure.

Antigen test:

  • Turnaround time: Antigen tests provide results within a short period, often within 15 to 30 minutes.
  • Accuracy: Antigen tests are less accurate than PCR tests, with a sensitivity ranging from 84% to 97% and specificity above 99%.
  • Travel requirements: Currently, antigen tests are not accepted as standalone tests for travel to Japan. Most countries, including Japan, require a standard RT-PCR test conducted within the specified timeframe.

Antibody test:

  • Turnaround time: Antibody tests can provide results within minutes to a few hours.
  • Accuracy: Antibody tests are not suitable for diagnosing current infections. They detect past infections and the presence of antibodies in the blood.
  • Travel requirements: Antibody tests are generally not accepted as standalone tests for travel to Japan or most other countries. A standard RT-PCR test is required for travel.

In conclusion, while rapid PCR tests offer faster results, they are not widely accepted as standalone tests for travel to Japan or other countries. It is important to check the specific travel requirements and guidelines of your destination country in advance. Currently, a standard RT-PCR test conducted within the specified timeframe is the most widely accepted testing method for travel to Japan. Remember to consult with your healthcare provider or visit the official embassy website for the most up-to-date information on travel requirements and testing methods for your destination.

Do NFL Players Cover Their Own Travel Expenses?

In light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, international travel restrictions have become increasingly complicated. Airlines and governments around the world have implemented strict regulations to ensure the safety of travelers and the general public. For those planning to travel to Japan, one of the requirements is to provide proof of a negative PCR test result. While the traditional PCR test offers reliable results, it can take several days to get the results. To expedite this process, many travelers are turning to rapid PCR tests. In this article, we will explore the benefits and limitations of rapid PCR tests for travel to Japan.

Benefits of Rapid PCR Tests:

  • Quick Results: One of the main advantages of rapid PCR tests is that they provide results within hours, sometimes even in less than an hour. This is especially beneficial for travelers who need to meet specific time constraints or have last-minute travel plans. Rapid PCR tests can provide peace of mind and eliminate unnecessary waiting time.
  • Reliability: Rapid PCR tests are known for their high accuracy and reliability. They use the same method as traditional PCR tests, which detects the genetic material of the virus. This allows for accurate and sensitive detection of the virus, ensuring the validity of the results.
  • Convenience: Rapid PCR tests are more accessible and readily available compared to traditional PCR tests, which may require appointments, laboratory processing, and longer wait times. There are now various options for rapid PCR testing, including self-administered kits and on-site testing centers. This convenience makes rapid PCR tests a popular choice for travelers who are time-constrained.
  • Acceptance by Authorities: Japan has recognized rapid PCR tests as an acceptable form of COVID-19 testing for travelers. As long as the rapid PCR test meets certain requirements set by the Japanese government, it can be used to fulfill the necessary testing requirements for entry into the country. This acceptance provides more flexibility for travelers who may not have enough time for traditional PCR testing.

Limitations of Rapid PCR Tests:

  • Cost: Rapid PCR tests can be more expensive than traditional PCR tests. This is often due to the faster turnaround time and the convenience factor. Travelers should be prepared to pay slightly higher fees for rapid PCR testing.
  • Availability: While the availability of rapid PCR testing has increased over time, it may still be limited in some areas. It is essential for travelers to research and identify testing locations that offer rapid PCR tests to ensure they can obtain their test results within the required timeframe.
  • False Negative Results: While rapid PCR tests are generally reliable, there is still a small chance of getting a false negative result. This can occur if the viral load is too low to be detected at the time of testing. Travelers should remain vigilant and follow all recommended safety measures, even if they receive a negative test result.
  • Potential Language Barriers: It is important for travelers to ensure that the rapid PCR test they choose is recognized by the Japanese authorities. Some tests may only be available in certain countries or may not be widely accepted. Language barriers may also become a challenge when communicating with testing centers or presenting test results to authorities.

In conclusion, rapid PCR tests offer several benefits for travelers to Japan, including quick results, reliability, convenience, and acceptance by authorities. However, there are also limitations to consider, such as higher costs, availability, the possibility of false negative results, and potential language barriers. It is crucial for travelers to thoroughly research and choose a reliable and recognized rapid PCR test provider to meet the testing requirements for travel to Japan. Additionally, travelers should continue to follow all COVID-19 safety measures, regardless of their test results, to minimize the risk of transmission.

Japan Visitors Exceed 3 Million for 2nd Straight Month, Tourism Agency Says

Reuters

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan welcomed more than 3 million visitors for a second straight month in April, official data showed on Wednesday, setting the stage for a potential record year for tourism.

The number of foreign visitors for business and leisure was 3.04 million last month, edging down from the monthly record of 3.08 million achieved in March, data from the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) showed.

Arrivals in April were up 56% from the prior year and 4% higher than in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic shut global borders. Visitors from France, Italy, and the Middle East rose to record levels in April for any single month.

The yen's slide to a 34-year low has made Japan a bargain destination for foreign visitors, with arrivals set to blow past the annual record of 31.9 million seen in 2019.

While the surge in arrivals is good news for Japan's economy, it has caused frictions with locals. Complaints of litter and illegal parking caused local officials to erect a barrier this month to block a popular photo spot of Japan's iconic Mt. Fuji.

Trail restrictions and a new 2,000 yen ($12.79) fee will go into effect for Mt. Fuji climbers this summer after a rise in pollution and accidents during last year's hiking season.

Visitors from Mainland China, Japan's biggest tourist market before the pandemic, exceeded 500,000 in April for the first time since January 2020 but were still 27% below the level in 2019.

Japan travel agencies slump as weak yen hits overseas tourism

Industry leader JTB and others scramble to build new earnings pillars

TOKYO -- JTB, Japan's biggest travel agency, anticipates a 53% drop in consolidated operating profit this fiscal year on elevated labor costs and sluggish overseas travel demand stemming from the historically weak yen.

The company said Friday that it expects to post operating profit of 11.6 billion yen ($74 million) for the year ending March 2025. Sales are projected to rise 7% to 1.16 trillion yen on higher unit prices for overseas travel due to rising prices and the soft yen, with domestic travel seen increasing slightly.
