How Nico bounced back from pandemic woe to launch BKS Travel

Determined Nico Mori refused to allow the Covid-19 pandemic thwart his ambition to succeed in business and provide for his family after he lost his job. And now his drive and ambition has paid off — and the dad-of-one has rekindled his career as an independent travel agent.

Nico’s new role heading up BKS Travel comes after he was made redundant from his job running a restaurant in Canary Wharf, London because of the huge downturn in footfall caused by the coronavirus crisis.

Now, though, he is flourishing once more with BKS Travel – with a wide range of travel options including summer and winter holidays, city breaks, weekend getaways, cruises hotel stays, flights. car hire group bookings, theatre tickets and attractions — and once again he is happy in his work. Nico, who is French but has been living in the UK for over 20 years, is married to Nicky and the couple have a little boy Jake, aged two.

He explains that the move to travel industry was one which was inspired by his love of globe-trotting. But it’s a move that he says he couldn’t have imagined before the pandemic struck. He explained:

“From a very young age, I always knew that being surrounded by food was for me, that I loved looking after people and ensuring they always received the best possible service. I have been lucky enough to work in some of the best restaurants in the country with some amazing chefs up to 2 Michelin star level.” “I was running a beautiful restaurant in busy Canary Wharf, with an amazing vibe and atmosphere. My work life balance was simply perfect for the arrival of Jake.”

Then, after the changes in employment, the travel bug struck.

“What do you need more than Vitamin D, friends and family? However, Covid-19 came along and decided to shake up our life and my career. After a few months in lockdown and all the bars and restaurant being forced to shut down, it sadly was no longer sustainable for my employer to keep our lovely restaurant open, so myself alongside my entire team, all suffered redundancy.”

Nico says It took a couple of weeks to sink in and a few more days to work out what would be next for him. He added:

“You work so hard and so long to get to the top and then this hits you, so hard, so unfair, but so very real. I’ve always enjoyed travel but also never had the time nor freedom to do it as much as I would have liked.” “I have also always assimilated hospitality and the travel industry to work hand in hand. Working as an independent travel agent (ITA), allows me to be my own boss, and work as hard or as little as I want. It allows me to work from my home or from actually anywhere with an Internet connection, that could be by the swimming pool or in the hotel bar, pretty much anywhere all over the world.”

Nico believes the new balance of work and life is perfect.

“This also allows me to explore more destinations and build those memories with Jake and Nicky, giving us access to many places we would have only dreamt of going to, or places that never even crossed our minds.” “Creating BKS Travel and working as an ITA fits my life perfectly and allows me to prioritise, it allows me to give my clients the same VIP service I would have given them when I was in the restaurant, and it allows me to create unforgettable memories for my clients, put a smile on their face. BRENT SANDERS

As the Owner of the company, Brent is responsible for the day to day operations of BKS Home Services, LLC. Brent oversees the team, while providing valuable guidance and instruction to ensure each project is completed as planned. In addition to performing installations and repairs for our customers, Brent also provides customer quotes. He is very good at keeping our customers informed of the status of each project. Brent is a disabled veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Brent and Kristi have been married for 28 years and enjoy spending their time off together. He also enjoys riding his Harley.

KRISTI SANDERS

As BKS has grown, Kristi can mainly be found in our office ensuring our customers are scheduled in a timely manner, and our team is where they need to be. She is very multi-task oriented, and she fields most of our customer’s calls and provides quotes. Kristi manages the BKS calendar, focusing on our customers’ requests. When not in the office, she meets with customers to provide on site quotes. She also completes installations and repair projects at customer locations. Kristi enjoys spending time with Brent and family and, of course, riding her Harley as well.

BEN SANDERS

Ben has a vital role at BKS Home Services, LLC. As Manager, he oversees the projects on site and directs the technicians as needed. He also provides quotes to customers on-site, or brings valuable information back to the office to ensure an accurate quote is given back to each customer. Ben performs daily installation and repairs for our customers, while utilizing his knowledge of the industry to complete tasks on time and on budget. Ben is also a huge car enthusiast.

TRACY  W

Office Assistant

Tracy joined our team in May 2023.  Tracy is a valuable asset to our team and works side by side with Kristi working with our customers.  She also works on maintaining our BKS customer schedule.  Tracy enjoys spending time with her husband and friends when not in the office.  Tracy's hobby's includes gardening, traveling, reading, and various crafts.

It didn’t take long for Shawn to make an impact as one of our technicians with our team and our customers. Professionalism to a tee, great creativity and never without a smile. Shawn brings fantastic service to our customers.  Shawn will continue growing with the BKS Home Services, LLC team.  Shawn enjoys spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. His hobby's include travel and spending time with friends.

With the announcement that Maxis intends to stick with The Sims 4 for the next few years at least, the studio is asking fans what they want to see in future expansions and some of the options sound fantastic . Despite being over a decade old, The Sims 4 is still churning out content and it won't be slowing down any time soon despite the game's rapidly declining technical state. The community may have mixed feelings about the constant onslaught of DLC purchases, but Maxis still has plenty of ideas in the bank.

Over on Reddit, user iheartcupquakes shared an official Maxis survey that requests players list what they'd like to see in future Sims 4 expansions, including a " modern monarchy " and a " gritty city " filled with vigilantes and criminals .

While both of those choices sound fairly reasonable for The Sims 4 , some options are particularly exciting, especially the " vibrant ocean world " themed around diving and exploring the sea . Sci-fi enthusiasts can even vote for a cyberpunk-inspired expansion that allows Sims to forge a living in a neon-soaked city that's been corrupted by rampant technology and experimentation.

Does The Sims 4 Need More Expansions?

Ea certainly seems to think so.

The Sims 4 is already an expensive experience for anyone who wants to enjoy every DLC pack, but EA is intent on keeping the life-sim going. With the announcement that The Sims 5 won't happen any time soon , the community is beginning to question whether the fourth game should grow any larger given that each subsequent expansion seems to technically break the game. With so much additional content, it seems like a good idea to simply move forward to a sequel.

While The Sims 5 dream may be dead , some of the suggested expansions for The Sims 4 do sound like a great time. It's always fun when Maxis goes beyond the norm and allows players to experiment with different worlds, mechanics, and career paths. Aside from the undersea exploration DLC, another exciting addition to the game could be the archeology-themed expansion that would allow Sims to dig up dinosaur fossils and explore ancient civilizations.

The Sims 4 has had content added to it over the span of a decade, and that’s left plenty of features hidden in the game that players might not find.

At this point, The Sims 4 seems like an unstoppable force of nature that is destined to stick around longer than many fans ever expected. Maxis still has plenty of work to do when it comes to providing a stable experience that's capable of supporting the wealth of DLC released over the years; a massive overhaul of the game may be what's required. Even though potentially playing as a masked vigilante could be fun, one has to wonder if it wouldn't be even more enjoyable in The Sims 5 .
