Bringing the nation’s leading cancer care to the Gulf South

As Louisiana’s leader in cancer care, we have joined forces with the nation’s leader in cancer care, the world-renowned MD Anderson Cancer Center, to bring an enhanced level of comprehensive cancer care to our patients.

Ochsner is the first and only provider in Louisiana with a fully integrated cancer program based on MD Anderson’s standards and treatment plans.

This newly created Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center provides patients in the region with access to cancer treatments that are among the most advanced in the nation. Patients can have confidence they are receiving care based on the same protocols and practice standards provided at MD Anderson:

  • Customized treatment plans based on some of the latest research.
  • Experienced team that treats both common and rare cancers, with quality outcomes.
  • High level of cancer care with the same access to cutting-edge technology, multidisciplinary approach and leading cancer care that is available in Houston, Texas.

Groundbreaking research and innovative therapies

Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center offers groundbreaking research and innovative therapies. We are dedicated to improving the health of our communities and are committed to the prevention and early detection of cancer.

  • We offer access to select early phase clinical trials for eligible patients through our Center for Innovative Cancer Therapies Program.
  • We are dedicated to genomic screening and the utilization of multi-cancer early detection screening tests. We provide access and education about routine and common life-saving cancer screenings which can lead to increased survival rates for cancer patients.
  • We have advanced technology available to treat both complex solid tumors and blood cancers.

How will my cancer care change?

Your doctors and care team will not change. This partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center will enhance the level of comprehensive cancer care we offer to our patients. Patients will benefit from the combined expertise of a multidisciplinary team of surgical, medical and radiation oncologists, nurses and support specialists.

As an Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center patient, you will receive high-quality care with the same protocols and practice standards available at MD Anderson, which are among the most advanced in the nation. Our physicians will have access to MD Anderson’s specialists and researchers for consultations on the most difficult to treat cancers.

This partnership will enable eligible patients to have access to some of the most advanced early-stage cancer clinical trials in the country.

I am not currently a patient at one of the Ochsner MD Anderson partner sites. What does this mean for my cancer care?

The Ochsner Cancer Institute encompasses the comprehensive cancer care available to patients across the Ochsner Health system. At every location, patients can expect to receive the top-level clinical care they expect from Ochsner and the largest clinical trials network in Louisiana and Mississippi.

If a patient’s individual diagnosis and treatment is best suited for care at an Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center location or MD Anderson in Houston and certain criteria are met, your doctor can seamlessly and quickly refer or transfer your care. Patients can also quickly access MD Anderson second opinions if necessary.

Am I now also considered an MD Anderson patient?

No. You will continue to be an Ochsner patient, receiving exceptional cancer care at Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Does this mean I can go to MD Anderson in Houston for cancer care?

Patients can be assured that care at Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center will follow the same customized treatment plans, protocols, and practice standards as MD Anderson’s patients. Ochsner physicians will provide the same high level of cancer care available in Houston.

If a patient’s individual diagnosis and treatment is best suited for care at MD Anderson in Houston and certain criteria are met, Ochsner can seamlessly and quickly refer or transfer patients. Patients can also more quickly access MD Anderson second opinions, if necessary.

Does my patient information on the MyOchsner app automatically get updated for both facilities?

Your information on the MyOchsner app will remain unchanged and will only be accessible in Ochsner’s patient app.

Does this partnership include pediatric cancer care?

Currently, the partnership with MD Anderson focuses only on adult cancer care.

Solar eclipse 2024: Photos from the path of totality and elsewhere in the U.S.

Images show the Great American Eclipse, seen by tens of millions of people in parts of Mexico, 15 U.S. states and eastern Canada for the first time since 2017.

Millions gathered across North America on Monday to bask in the glory of the Great American Eclipse — the moment when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun.

The path of totality measures more than 100 miles wide and will first be visible on Mexico’s Pacific coast before moving northeast through Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois and upward toward New York, New Hampshire and Maine, then on to Canada.

Total solar eclipse 2024 highlights: Live coverage, videos and more

During the cosmic spectacle, the moon’s movements will temporarily block the sun’s light, creating minutes of darkness, and will make the sun's outer atmosphere, or the corona, visible as a glowing halo.

Here are moments of the celestial activities across the country:
