Let’s get this out the way first. Whomadewho are a very, very cool band. They’re a Copenhagan based dance-punk/experimental pop trio who’ve worked with and remixed everyone from Hot Chip, to The Rapture, to Josh Homme and to Peaches. However. Whomadewho are one of the very, very few bands that don’t seem to be cool out of any sort of posture, that’s just how they roll. Which is kind of infuriating in and of itself but that’s more my problem than anything. Our problem. I meant Ours. Anyway! The other thing that makes Whomadewho as unmissable as they are is that they are unafraid of marrying experimental weirdness up with impossibly catchy tunes and ridiculous disco beats which make their live shows as much a feast for the heart and the hips as they are for the head. Teasing their tracks out to near ten minute remixes with as many badass drops as there are electronic freak outs all wrapped together with Tomas Høffding’s delectable falsetto, they’re a band one can have a lot of fun bragging to their hipper-than-thou friends about seeing, while still having a ton of fun actually going to see. We need more of their like around, and that’s without even getting to their cover of Benny Benassi’s Satisfaction. Ridiculous. Fun. Cool. Everything a band should be and a live band to see as soon as possible.

Who Made Who is the Danish band hailing from the capital, who have been around for the last decade, crafting their breed of dance punk for the masses. Their sound is experimental, but engaging, always making an audience want to dance. They have played alongside the genre bending contemporaries, Daft Punk Soulwax, Hot Chip, and LCD Soundsystem. They gained a huge following after they headlined the Benicassim festival in 2007 after a delay caused scheduled headliners Klaxons to arrive too late to play their set.

Tonight this party hungry audience are ready for their fill of Who Made Who’s complete works, excited for new rumoured material, and most of all, ready to dance all night long. They launch into their spell bounding set, creating a buzz in this room, which has started jumping as soon as the beat kicks in. “Space for Rent” is huge this evening, with every song making the audience sing out loud and maintain the buzz throughout the evening.

WhoMadeWho: meet the Danish electronic band that has become a sensation in the world's biggest music festivals

We spoke to the trio formed by Tomas Høffding, Tomas Barford and Jeppe Kjellberg days before the release of the 'UUUU' album

  • Luciana Mantamor
  • 1 June 2022

WhoMadeWho is a Danish electronic band formed by Tomas Høffding , Tomas Barford and Jeppe Kjellberg , known for their standout performances around the globe, from Roskilde to Sonar, Melt! to Burning Man.

The WMW has released multiple albums and a plethora of EPs, singles and remixes on labels like Kompakt, Innervisions, Life & Death. We spoke to them a few days before the newest studio album release ‘UUUU’. Read on!

who made who dj tour

We ask all artists to share the story of their very beginnings to Brazilian audiences. How did WMW started after all?

We all had our separate careers in music that we were already living from music when we met.

Barford was making house music and touring a bit internationally, Høffding had a indie band in Denmark and Jeppe was renowned jazz guitarist.

Besides that we were all young dudes enjoying Copenhagen and our life.

How the members met and how did you come up with this name for the band?

So, Jeppe was playing with Barfod’s band at various occasions and once at a festival they started talking about combining electronic music with live instruments.

Jeppe said ‘I know exactly who we should add to the band’ and they called Høffding, that Jeppe knew from an epic jam session at a wedding.

We all met at a cold December night in Copenhagen and started jamming together.

That night we made 3 very fun and unstructured songs, but after a few weeks of production we already had our first demo, that we sent to our favorite labels.

3 of them replied willing to sign us, so I guess we were on to something.

It all went so fast that we didn’t even have a name when we got signed, so the label called and said - now you need to find a name, guys.

Barford looked at a AC/DC record in his vinyl collection that was called Who Made Who, and the band agreed...that’s how we ended up with that name.

who made who dj tour

What you guys believe was WMW’s first significant move that may have led the work of the band towards the next level and to what it is today?

We had a long and funny career with many detours and defining moments.

One of them was signing to KOMPAKT records, back then we were kind of cought in the indie pop scene, and signing with a ‘techno’ label took a step towards the club scene where we started and actually always fitted best.

Definitely the most significant event was our Abu Simbel streaming with Cercle. It was like everything we had worked on and our various talents came together in that moment.

Since Abu Simbel our band had been on whole other trajectory.

The amount of effort it takes to put together productions like the ones at Burning Man and Abu Simbel can be huge, often leading to amazing results. Can you share backstage stories about the insane show that keep attracting millions of views online?

When we wrapped up the filming in Abu Simbel we had lunch with the while crew, and the guys from Cercle said ‘we are going on a yacht tomorrow, it’s 8 hours night drive to get there and we leave in a few hours...you wanna come?’ After a little thinking we said yes.

The drive ended up being around 14 hours through the Egyptian desert, sometimes in a courtage with armored cars and guards, it was a rough yet interesting and beautiful drive. The yacht cruise was something special we swam with dolphins, reys and in Shipwrecks...and had a beautiful time with the Cercle crew.

You have now released 7 albuns and lots of EPS on some of the world’s most prestigious labels, like Life and Death, Kompakt and ‘Watergate 26’ (2019). Any plans of launching a label, an inprint founded and curated by WMW?

Yes for sure, we might already do next year, we will call it Tranquility and it will release own productions and collabs.

You guys played recently in Brazil. How was the experience? Any new brazilian tour coming?

We have been in Brazil quite a few times for years and every time it’s amazing. We have many plans, it’s lovely that south America has opened up for big events and that we have so many beautiful fans there.

Speaking now about the new ‘UUUU’ album. The EP launches have really built up buzz ahead of the release. Can you share more about the album?

It’s always a big thing to create an album since it takes a lot of shared energy between us to make it happen.

In this case most of the songs that made it to the album were made between 2020 and 2022, but some songs are even older.

Even though electronic music has always been a part of our DNA, the last years we have been leaning more and more towards that scene.

A very interesting part of this journey has been to work with Rampa from Keinemusik who produced over half of the album.

He pushed us at times we were stuck and developed many of our demos (that were heading to the trash) to great songs.

This album definitely points forward towards new adventures both in the studio and playing live around the world.

The hybrid set showcased at Burning Man looks very entertaining. While one handles the DJ side and others sing and play a variety of instruments, making the show unique. Will ‘UUUU’ tour shows bring those hybrid sets too or it will change?

At the moment we are developing our new liveshow and that is our biggest priority right now.

We are building on the Abu Simbel live show but with much more live instruments and new productions and versions especially made for this show.

We will launch it during 2022 but it will have its full setup including stage, lights and visual design by 2023.

We still do a lot of hybrid DJ sets, but that’s always only two of us and is including tracks from other people also.

The hybrid sets gives us more freedom to play around and experiment, and we are not limited by time or stage setup, which gives us opportunities to meet more fans in various settings around the world.

The live set will be thoroughly produced since we want to make beautiful musical and visual moments for bigger crowds.

Moving people and creating memories together is basically why we get up every day and go to the studio or jump on a plane somewhere.

A band like WMW is now certainly have events and projects lined up for many months and even years ahead. Can you guys share some of the most exciting projects ahead with brazilian fans?

It’s a bit hard since we can’t announce much of what we are confirmed for right now...but there is definitely something fun and special in the making.

Last! Any wisdom you could share to the new artists that have been working on projects involving electronic music bands?

Stay original, persistent and patient!

New Kids on the Block's Phoenix concert sizzled on a hot summer night

who made who dj tour

Donnie Wahlberg was playfully tugging at the bottom of his tank top, teasing the prospect of an early ab reveal, when he took a moment to address the fact that New Kids on the Block were in the early stages of an outdoor show in Phoenix, where the temperature had peaked at 115 degrees just a few hours earlier.

“It’s only 475 degrees,” he proclaimed in the middle of "Cover Girl," their fourth song of the night, before lifting his shirt as the crowd went wild.

It was Tuesday, July 9, and an excessive heat warning was in effect for Phoenix and surrounding areas as New Kids took the stage at Talking Stick Resort Amphitheatre for the latest concert on their Magic Summer Tour with special guests Paula Abdul and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

They couldn't very well have just ignored the weather on a night like that.

New Kids on the Block setlist: Every song on the Magic Summer Tour in Phoenix

'Thank you for braving the heat,' Donnie Wahlberg tells fans

After leading Jonathan, Joey, Jordan and Danny in the pelvic thrusts of “You Got It (The Right Stuff),” Wahlberg told the crowd, “We began this magical journey three weeks ago in the great state of Ohio and slowly began our journey out west. And each successive success night, it got louder and louder and louder and hotter and hotter and hotter.”

He mentioned a few of the places they’d played, then said, “And Phoenix, you already know it’s hotter up in this (expletive), but who’d have thought it would be the loudest crowd we’ve had?!”

Before the night was through, he thanked the fans for coming out in such extreme conditions to see them play.

“Thank you for braving the heat,” he said. “Listen, it’s a lot to come out here and do this. We’ve got a lot of people tonight saying, ‘Oh, be careful. Thank you.’ No. Thank you . You all are toughing it out, too. We’re all in this together.”

Extreme heat was no match for NKOTB in Phoenix

If the heat had any impact on the kind of show we got in Phoenix, you wouldn’t have known it from the energy and showmanship those five men brought to their performance as they sang and danced their way through all their biggest hits and several songs from  their first album in 11 years , the endearingly titled “Still Kids.”

They even went into the audience, performing two songs on five individual stages, Wahlberg roaming deep into the crowd.

It didn’t feel like they were holding back at all.

The entire performance was as heavily choreographed as you’d expect from New Kids on the Block, whose moves have definitely gotten more suggestive as they’ve aged into the sort of heartthrobs who no longer have to worry about parents keeping kids home from their concerts.

All 5 members of New Kids on the Block had vocal spotlights

But it’s all very playful, even the backstage videos of Danny Wood and Wahlberg getting shirtless for the cameras at Club Quick Change or Jordan Knight ripping his shirt open on stage for “Baby, I Believe in You,” one of countless shows of vocal force by Knight and his seemingly ageless falsetto.

The concert’s most breathtaking vocal performance had to be those high notes Knight hit on the show-stopping climax of “I’ll Be Loving You (Forever),” dropping to one knee and holding that pose for dramatic effect like Elvis.

All five members had their chance to shine, from Joey McIntyre, who sang “Where Do I Go From Here?” alone at the piano, turned in a tortured rendition of “Please Don’t Go, Girl” and put his soulful upper register to brilliant use on “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind)?,” to Jonathan Knight, Jordan’s brother, who sang a sweetly soulful “Happy Birthday” (not the one you sing at birthday parties) to a fan named Krista on her birthday.

It's been that way since New Kids first rolled out of Boston in the ‘80s with “Please Don’t Go Girl,” “You Got It (The Right Stuff),” “I’ll Be Loving You (Forever),” “Hangin’ Tough,” “Cover Girl” and their shockingly faithful rendition of “Didn’t I (Blow Your Mind)” by Philly soul greats the Delfonics.

New Kids remain the Tiger Beat pinups most likely to survive

They did all those hits and more in Phoenix, reasserting their resilience as the Tiger Beat pinups most likely to survive the slings and arrows of their harshest critics, hangin’ tough while managing to hold onto the fans who had their pictures taped inside their lockers in the days of “Hangin’ Tough.”

The show went heavy on nostalgia, as expected, but they opened with two songs from “New Kids,” singing “Magic,” the opening number, in front of a video representation of the individual boxes from their 1990 action figures.

As New Kids were nearing the end of their performance, they were joined by DJ Jazzy Jeff, who rose up from beneath the stage on a hydraulic lift to get the crowd pumped up for several more songs from that new release before bringing a fan named Shelly up to take the spotlight on a crowd-pleasing version of “Summertime” by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince.

Shelly definitely rocked that mic.

And New Kids were clearly enjoying the moment, especially Wahlberg.

It's kind of wild to think that even Joey McIntyre, the youngest New Kid on the Block, is in his 50s now — and wilder still to think that there was nothing in that concert to suggest that these guys couldn't just keep doing what they're doing well into their 60s.

They still got it (the right stuff).

DJ Jazzy Jeff opened for NKOTB in Phoenix

Hours earlier, while the sun was still blazing, DJ Jazzy Jeff got the party started with a hit-filled set of hip-hop, R&B and rock songs, from Naughty By Nature and the Jackson 5 to Beyonce and the Monkees .

After dusting off “Apache,” the legendary DJ and his MC brought the set to a crowd-pleasing finish with “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana, “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey and “Livin’ on a Prayer” by Bon Jovi.

The highlight of their set, though, was undoubtedly the theme song to "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air," which inspired a spirited singalong.

Paula Abdul's set was straight up theatrical and wildly entertaining

Paula Abdul could not have been more entertaining, opening her show with the elaborate choreography of “Straight Up” and joking about the heat before taking a hit from an oxygen mask.

“Are you kidding?" she told the crowd. "This is 62, folks.”

She's still got the moves at 62.

Abdul proceeded through her greatest hits in highly theatrical fashion, illustrating different aspects of what goes into this type of show in a brilliantly choreographed performance that felt more like a Broadway production than an opening slot on a New Kids tour.

There were racks of wardrobe choices to go through on “Vibeology,” dancer auditions to hold on “Cold Hearted," an animated appearance by her old pal MC Skat Kat during “Opposites Attract" and so on.

There were also two video interludes reflecting on her life in dance and music along the way to a crowd-pleasing medley of “The Promise of a New Day,” “Knocked Out,” “I’m Just Here for the Music,” “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow” and “Ain’t Never Gonna Give You Up” before she brought her 30-minute portion of the concert to a rousing close with “Forever Your Girl.”

Jason Day shares some doggoned good memories on return to where it all began

Made first tour start at 2006 john deere classic as 19-year-old.

Change Text Size

As “welcome to the PGA TOUR” moments go, Jason Day’s was a keeper.

In July of 2006, Day was all of 19 and making his TOUR debut at the John Deere Classic. He was accorded free lodging — albeit at a less-than-five-star Super 8 — and was rewarded with memories money can’t buy.

Back at TPC Deere Run for the first time since 2011, the now 36-year-old Australian had a good laugh in a Wednesday morning visit to the media center alongside longtime TOUR media official Doug Milne, who happened to be staying a few doors down from Day in 2006.

“I think back then your AC unit fell out the wall, so you could crawl from your room to the outside, which was even funnier,” Day recalled.

Added Milne: “I had a dog come into my room. I literally woke up with a dog on my bed.”

The dog days of that long-ago summer are long gone, for Day at least.

Jason Day reflects on first TOUR start at 2006 John Deere

At the place where it all so auspiciously began, Day is making his 351st TOUR start as a father of five with more than $60 million in career earnings to his credit and 13 TOUR victories on his resume.

The win total includes the 2015 PGA Championship and the 2023 CJ CUP Byron Nelson, the latter of which cemented his return to form after back issues nearly derailed a career that saw him ascend to the top of the world rankings in 2015.

Currently 28th in the FedExCup standings and seeking his first top-10 finish since February, Day is hoping to find a late-season spark that will carry him into The Open Championship two weeks hence at Royal Troon, his Olympics debut at month’s end, and the FedExCup Playoffs in August. He is eager to experience the Olympics in Paris after taking a pass on representing Australia when golf returned to the Games in 2016 for the first time since 1904.

“Looking back on it, I probably should have gone to Rio and played,” he said. “I think it's something bigger than yourself. You're actually representing your country and your sport. As an Australian, the Olympics is a big thing because we’re a big sporting nation. To get another turn at it, I feel very grateful.”

Day also is grateful to return to the tournament that gave him his first start. “I tried to come back a couple years ago and my back didn't allow me to. It's nice to be back,” he said. “I've always enjoyed the people and the golf tournament.”

Less so, perhaps, those first accommodations. This year, he’s staying in his RV just south of the course with his wife, Ellie, and their five children.

“You got room?” inquired Milne, who’s still at the Super 8.

“I do, but you're going to be sleeping next to my kids,” Day replied.

Beats sleeping next to a stray dog.

Jonas Vingegaard wins Tour de France stage 11 as Tadej Pogačar extends lead

Sport Jonas Vingegaard wins Tour de France stage 11 as Tadej Pogačar extends lead

Two cyclist race during a sprint finish in a Tour de France stage.

Jonas Vingegaard has pipped Tadej Pogačar to win the latest stage of the Tour de France from Évaux-les-Bains to Le Lioran.

Pogačar extended his overall lead in the general classification to 1 minute and 6 seconds.

What's next?

Vingegaard will begin the 12th stage 1 minute 14 seconds behind Pogačar on the overall standings.

Two-time defending champion Jonas Vingegaard has held off race leader Tadej Pogačar to win the 11th stage of the Tour de France, having caught the Slovenian after he made a break.

The 211-kilometre ride from Évaux-les-Bains to Le Lioran is the longest stage on this year's Tour and while the expected early breaks materialised, it came down to the main contenders, with the overall top four making up the first four at the finish.

For Vingegaard, who came into this year's event having not raced for three months after suffering a collapsed lung and fractured rib, this was a significant victory over the race leader and favourite.

"It's of course very emotional for me," Vingegaard said.

"Coming back from the crash, it means a lot and all the things I went through in the last three months, it makes you think of that and I would never have been able to do this without my family."

Pogačar still extended his overall lead to 1 minute and 6 seconds over Remco Evenepoel, who finished third in the stage.

Denmark's Vingegaard is a further 8 seconds back in the general classification.

A group of 10 riders managed to get away for long parts of the race, but Pogačar's UAE Emirates teammates controlled the front of the peloton and never let a large gap open.

Irishman Ben Healy was the last to resist before being swallowed up by the chasing pack with 1km left to the top of Pas de Peyrol, the toughest of the stage's six climbs, and Pogačar made his move close to the summit.

Pogačar extended his lead on the descent, but Vingegaard showed his mettle and left Primož Roglič behind to go in pursuit of the leader, catching him just before the top of the next climb with less than 15km to the finish.

The final descent to the finish was a narrow ride, and Vingegaard took the lead on the home straight in a game of cat and mouse and when they finally started sprinting, he just held off Pogačar on the line.

Jai Hindley was the best-placed Australian in 25th position. He is 19th on the general classification standings, 17 minutes and 23 seconds behind Pogačar.

John Deere Classic, Davis Thompson

Davis Thompson became the 24th first-time PGA Tour winner at the John Deere Classic . He finished at 28-under to set the 72-hole scoring record at TPC Deere Run.

The past two events saw him finish T9 at the U.S. Open and T2 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. He shot a final-round 7-under 64 to win by four shots over C.T. Pan, Michael Thorbjornsen and amateur standout Luke Clanton .

Thompson came into Sunday with a two-shot lead. From his opening tee shot, the former Georgia Bulldog pressed down the accelerator and went nuclear. He made five birdies in his first six holes and over 120 feet of putts.

The 25-year-old put on a clinic as he gained +18 shots on the field in strokes gained total.

With an $8 million purse, Thompson took home $1,440,000 and earned 500 FedEx Cup points. He moved from No. 51 to No. 22 in the FedEx Cup playoff standings.

Pan and Thorbjornsen each took home $712,000. Since Clanton is an amateur, he did not earn anything. Hayden Springer, or Mr. 59, finished T7 and went home with $252,500.

Let’s break down the rest of the field to see how much each player made at the John Deere Classic.

Minneapolis cat tour started as joke, now draws hundreds of admirers

“I love to do weird, goofy stuff like this,” said John Edwards, who organizes the yearly event.

Key takeaways

Summary is AI-generated, newsroom-reviewed.

  • The tour features 22 stops, including a cat memorial.
  • Community building is the main goal of this annual event.
  • The organizer prefers dogs but appreciates the camaraderie of the cat tours.

The cat tour started small.

John Edwards thought it would be hilarious — and somewhat ridiculous — to lead a walk through his Minneapolis neighborhood admiring the many felines that live there.

“It’s the kind of densely populated neighborhood where if you’re walking around, you’re going to see a lot of cats,” said Edwards, who lives in Lowry Hill East — often called “the Wedge” because of its wedgelike shape — where there are approximately 9,300 residents.

About a dozen people showed up for the impromptu cat tour, led by Edwards, seven years ago. Over a two-mile walk, the group stopped to see about 20 cats peeking through their windows.

Edwards — who runs a hyperlocal media publication called Wedge Live — never anticipated his cat tour concept would catch on. But people loved it and wanted more, so Edwards began organizing an annual cat tour.

It grew every year.

“It was a joke, and now it’s real,” Edwards said. “I just thought it would be a funny theme for an event, and it turned into a thing hundreds and hundreds of people wanted to come to.”

On the evening of June 26, about 500 people of all ages congregated at a local park, ready to start the annual cat tour. Many held signs saying “show us your cats,” and people also wore official “Cats of the Wedge” T-shirts, tank tops and totes. Local reporters were there to cover the tour.

“It’s incredibly weird,” Edwards said of his yearly event, which is free. “I love to do weird, goofy stuff like this.”

Other people love it, too. While the cat tour is mainly attended by locals, some travel from surrounding suburbs — or farther — to be there.

“Last year, we even had a guy who came specifically for the cat tour from Oklahoma City,” Edwards said. “He said he had it on his bucket list and flew in.”

Now that the event has grown considerably, Edwards requests that residents who want to feature their felines in the tour register their pets. This year, there were about 22 stops along the one-hour tour, though there were several “bonus cats” (as Edwards calls them) whose owners saw the commotion outside and decided to bring out their furry friends to join in the fun. There was also a memorial for a former tour cat named Princess Pickles.

While many cats remain inside their homes, others come out to mingle. The large group blocks traffic, but drivers don’t seem to mind.

“It really is just getting together with your neighbors, going for a walk and looking at cats,” said Taylor Dahlin, who lives in a nearby neighborhood and has attended five cat tours over the years. “I’ve never heard of anything like that. It’s just such a fun way to spend an evening.”

Paula Chesley is also a big fan of the cat tour. For three years, she showed off her cat Billie Jean. She brought her outside in a stroller to socialize with people.

“She loved it,” said Chesley, adding that she has met many friends through the tour.

Billie Jean passed away last July, but Chesley was still eager to participate in the event.

“It’s very whimsical,” she said. “I think it just brings out peoples’ sense of silliness.”

Chesley hopes her new rescue cat, Elvis, can be showcased in next year’s cat tour when he is less skittish. In the meantime, she loved meeting the other neighborhood cats.

“It’s a very joyful event,” she said.

David Montgomery’s cats, Coda and Margeaux, posed for people in their window. Montgomery is also taking care of a litter of kittens and placed them in another window for tour attendees to offer their oohs and aahs.

“People loved it,” Montgomery said. “I love showing off our cats and getting to see everyone.”

Montgomery moved to the Wedge last year and said the cat tour is a staple gathering for residents.

“It’s one of the highlights of living in this neighborhood, both the event itself, and the kind of community that being able to host an event like this reflects,” he said.

Community-building is Edwards’s main goal for the annual tour.

“I’ve come to really appreciate how much people enjoy it,” he said.

Edwards did, however, want to clarify one thing: He does not have a cat. He described himself as more of a dog person.

“I love all animals, but I kind of prefer dogs, so it is odd that I’m the cat tour guy,” he said, explaining that a cat tour seemed simpler than a dog tour, as dogs tend to be less docile.

“It’s not really about the cats,” he said. “It’s a large number of people getting together and sharing an experience. I think people really just like the camaraderie.”

The 2025 cat tour is already scheduled for June 25. Edwards plans to carry on the cat tour tradition indefinitely.

“Everyone has such a good time,” he said. “Every year, I’m shocked by how happy everyone looks while it’s happening.”

Tour de France results, standings after Stage 3

Sprinter Biniam Girmay made history as he emerged fastest from the peloton to win Stage 3 of the 2024 Tour de France and become the first Eritrean rider to win a stage in the race's 111-edition history.

The first flat stage of the Tour, Stage 3 provided somewhat of a reprieve from the relentless climbs of the first two stages . A more relaxed, tightly bunched peloton steadily moved along the 143.4-mile route from Plaisance to Turin, setting up the field’s strongest sprinters for a stage win.

Girmay of team Intermarché-Wanty surged to the front ahead of Fernando Gaviria and Arnaud De Lie in second and third place after a crash approximately 2km from the finish line compromised the position of a dozen riders, among them sprinter favorite Jasper Philipsen of team Alpecin-Deceuninck.

The stage was closely contested and the results saw the yellow jersey exchange hands, with Richard Carapaz of EF Education-EasyPost edging out Tadej Pogacar of UAE Team Emirates for the top spot in the general classification standings after the third day of racing.
