Our organization does just that, our professional coaches teach their players to be better than they could believe themselves. Many times kids need help finding their confidence and striving to build off of that confidence in store. Baseball is a very mental game so we teach our kids to deal with adversity. Baseball is a game of failure until you start to understand the success.

travel baseball teams long island

The Long Island Dodgers Nation Baseball Travel Program  began in the fall of 2016. The program grew rapidly from its early beginnings and now includes 15+ baseball teams heading into the 2018 season. Age ranges for the baseball players cover 9U through 18U.

The Long Island Dodgers Nation Travel Baseball Program  combines individualized instruction with a qualified and dedicated coaching staff to develop foundational elements required for long term baseball player and team success. Practices, drills and instruction are designed, organized and planned to deliver maximum development for each player. Players on each team will benefit from having very well qualified coaches that care about their players. The coaches work to develop a work ethic, passion and dogged determination that will help and guide young men in their baseball and academic life.

Christian Byrnes  has traveled all over the world playing,  teaching and coaching the game of baseball. At Bethpage H.S. in 1986 he led Long Island in batting at .544, breaking hitting and stolen base records and was 4 year Gold Glove Winner for his play at Shortstop. He also was voted All County and MVP of the All Star Game. He accepted a scholarship to  Concordia College where he played Shortstop all 4 years. Concordia was ranked as high as 8th in the Country during his playing career. For his career, his batting average was .339 , stealing 51 bases and was named Captain his Senior Year. He had the honor of Coaching Diamond Pros Team USA to Championship in Australia, 2nd place finish in China, teaching in Finland, as well as all over USA both as a player and coach. In 2016 he was chosen by  Topps Baseball Company  to Coach first base for the Durham Bulls (Tampa Rays AAA Club) for the weekend. In the last 15 years he has traveled to Florida and Arizona for MLB spring training to learn from Coaches, all MLB drills and practice routines, which he implements here at LI Dodgers Nation. He worked for many years with Diamond Pros under travel baseball pioneer, Lou Santos, and learned from many hitting greats including former Yankee Roy White. Christian has run baseball instructional camps over the years and his experience as a Varsity Baseball Coach at Bethpage High School for the past 15 years has guided many of his former players on to the collegiate level.

Our coaching staff consists of former Major Leaguer  Dave Von Ohlen , a well known local pitching instructor here on Long Island. Dave was signed by the NY Mets, and pitched in the majors for Cardinals, A’s, and Indians. Dave will be working with our pitchers throughout the winter.  Reggie Jackson  (son of Mets player and pitching guru Al Jackson) brings his wealth of baseball experience through playing, and coaching, scouting for NY Mets, Nationals and Royals. All of our coaches are uniquely qualified to ensure steady progress and development of individual players and teams. The coaches have worked in serious baseball environments either as players and/or instructors. All our coaches have had extensive training in our specialized program and have all played at least the Collegiate level. Each coach understands what it takes to be successful and perform at the highest levels. The coaches look to convey the important lessons they have learned over the years as student athletes aspiring to get the most out of their ability. They will help prepare your son in developing proper mindset with sharpened focus at practice and during games.

The coaching staff will also provide real world guidance for players that have an interest in playing college baseball. Truthful advice and feedback will be provided to parents on showcases and scouting. Coaches Christian Byrnes and  Gene Walsh  (LI Collegiate Astros Coach and Dodgers Nation College Coordinator) both serve as Head of Player Development and have helped match several former players to a college or baseball program that best accommodates the players academic, athletic and social well- being. They offer real world experience in this area and can help navigate parents and players.

Islip Travel Baseball

Joe D'Addario Founder Islip Travel Baseball 2007

Sports, particularly baseball, were an integral part of my life growing up.  From little league where my dad was my 1st coach through College my experiences ran the gamut, playing on some great, as well as weak teams.  I learned the game from coaches who taught it using their own styles and approaches.  Playing a ton of ball both organized and "pickup," including stickball in the schoolyard also helped. Being around the game at the major league level as a vendor in the stands at Shea stadium from the age of fifteen contributed as well.  Over the years, I played different roles and positions.  As a Sr. at Hillcrest HS in Queens, our team ranked as high as #2 overall in the City of New York while compiling a 19-0 record before we finally lost.

Baseball helped me gain early decision admission into Kenyon College.  Kenyon is a small liberal arts school nestled away in the hills of Ohio known for developing writers.  A beautiful campus with first class playing facilities, the school was half the size of my urban HS which didn't even have a baseball field.  We struggled to compete, but I loved playing ball there and some of my best academic semesters occurred during baseball season.  My sophomore year, we set a then college record for wins with a losing record overall!  We traveled to Alabama on spring break and we formed memories that last a lifetime.  From my Freshman year, I started at third base and was chosen co-captain as a Sr.

Baseball is America’s pastime and as my mother a high school teacher and long term HS chairperson still says, you can also tell the story of America through baseball.

When it came time to teach and to share my love of the game with my children and their friends, I dove in headlong relying upon and using my experiences and knowledge of the game.

Islip Travel Baseball grew out of those experiences.  Our board members and coaches volunteer to give back to the game that we love, as a nod to our past coaches, to pass the torch on to the next generation of ballplayers, umpires, coaches and fans.  The love of baseball and softball is a life long healthy interest.  The lessons learned along the way, how to commit, sacrifice and to be part of a team that is larger than yourself are invaluable.

Since 2007, Islip Travel Baseball has followed a winning model in developing ballplayers and teams.  During that time many different travel baseball organizations on Long Island have come and gone.  As a non-profit youth baseball softball travel organization, we are a rarity, particularly on Long Island.  We take pride in seeing the names of our ball players in the newspapers representing their school teams and communities, committing to and playing College ball and now returning to our program as young men in their twenties.

I am grateful and fortunate to have met so many wonderful people who have given of themselves and worked hard to make Islip Travel Baseball a truly special club.

MCWS HISTORY:  Winningest coaches  |  Most titles  |  Most appearances   |  Conferences most represented

Here is more on how the tournament works:

What is the difference between the Division I baseball tournament and the College World Series?

The NCAA Division I baseball tournament is a 64-team tournament that starts in May. After two rounds of play (which each consist of multiple games), there are just eight teams left. These eight teams then head to Omaha, Neb. for the College World Series. The CWS is the culmination of the DI tournament, where the teams compete in two brackets, with the winners of each meeting in the CWS finals, a best-of-three series to decide the NCAA champion.

When did the College World Series start?

The first-ever NCAA Division I baseball tournament was in 1947, and would barely be recognized as the same tournament nowadays. The 1947 tournament featured just eight teams, which were divided into two four-team, single-elimination brackets. The two winners — California and Yale — then met in a best-of-three final in Kalamazoo, Michigan. California would go undefeated through the inaugural CWS and beat Yale to capture the first title.

How are teams selected for the NCAA Division I baseball tournament?

Since 1954, the NCAA Division I baseball tournament field has been split into two qualifying groups: The automatic berths, and the at-large selections. Since 2014, that in a typical year split sees 31 conference champions receive automatic berths, and 33 teams receive at-large bids, decided by the NCAA Division I Baseball Committee.

Men's College World Series champs since 1947

California defeated Yale in the first-ever Men's College World Series, the first of two played in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Texas put itself on the map as the first back-to-back champions in winning the only MCWS ever played in Wichita, Kansas in 1949. The following season Texas won its second championship, opening Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha.

Here's a complete list of all the College World Series finals in the 73-year history of the event. Ole Miss won the 2022 Men's College World Series in two games over Oklahoma.
