Torn City Guides

Get to level 15 as fast as possible.

Reaching level 15 is very important.

Level 15 allows you to travel, and when you can travel, it becomes much, much easier to make money. Most people reach level 15, and then start running flowers and plushies. You fly to another country, buy flowers or plushies, and fly home. Then you sell those flowers or plushies to another player. There is a very big market, lots of people want to buy them, and you'll get a very nice profit for it. You can easily make $3M a day or more doing this, more if you are very active. Some make $5M-$6M profit a day doing this.

To reach level 15, you need to train your gym stats a bit. Hopefully you've been doing some of that, but you may need to do more. (And long term, even the people who have played for years still use most of their energy to train their stats.)

Once your stats are high enough, there are some targets known as "leveling targets" that you can attack. These are people (inactive now) who have fairly low stats for their level. They are easy to beat in a fight. You attack them, then leave them in the street. That gives you the best experience gains and lets you level up fairly quickly. I have a list of leveling targets in the next msg of this thread.

Once you can easily win against the leveling targets, you should use all or almost all of your e (energy) attacking them and leaving them in the street, until you reach level 15. If you can't beat them easily (ie, if you lose or if you win but take a lot of damage) then you should train more then try again in a few days. Once you reach level 15, level isn't important any more, and you should go back to gym training with your e. Level always helps, but you don't need to actively work on leveling up past level 15, just let it come naturally, and put your energy into training in the gym.

EDUCATION :

Intro to biology, then intravenous therapy, then go ahead and start in Sports science.

Sports science, then intro to biology and intravenous therapy.

this is just my opinion though.

The biology classes allow you to use blood bags which are a cheaper and better medical items than buying morphine and all that. The sports science bachelors helps increase your gym gains. Getting it completed early on helps you to get more gains in the long run.

it is  not  important to unlock the sports lab in sports science, once you use 150 drugs you will not be able to access it. using xanax for happy jumps will get you better gym gains then the sports lab. sports science is still worth starting because you will unlock better passive percentages for gym gains.

TORN JOBS/COMPANIES::

Right away, take one of the basic Torn jobs. Grocer is my preferred choice, but army or casino will also work well. These are the basic Torn jobs. Those jobs will let your work stats start rising, which will make it easier to get a job with a player owned company later. It is highly recommended to stay in one of these jobs until at the very least lvl 15. When you are brand new, you have essentially no work stats. Working the basic Torn jobs will help bring those stats up. And it shouldn't take long before you can find a company job. Those usually have better perks and usually they will train you.

Torn companies

At some point, you will probably want to look for a job in a player owned company. Sweet shop is usually the best place for a new player. Those have low stat requirements. And in a sweet shop, you want the company to have at least a 7* rating. Less than 7 stars doesn't allow you to turn in job points for energy cans, which is the primary benefit of sweet shops. (Those energy cans can be sold for $1.8M to $3.5M each, depending on the type, timing, etc.) Plus, your # of job points gained each day is based on the # of stars, so more is better.

Once you find some that say Hiring, don't just apply. Message the directors first. You can only have one application in at a time, so you're better off if you msg directors from several companies, and only apply after they've told you that they'll hire you. when you msg them, tell them your work stats. (Manual, Intelligence, Endurance.) And assuming you are active daily, tell them that. Company directors are going to want someone who logs in at least once a day, and they are going to want to know what your stats are, so make sure that info is all in the msg you send.

Candy/Happy Jumps:

IMPORTANT NOTICE

every 15 minutes (xx:00, xx:15, xx:30 or xx:45) your happiness automatically goes back to normal. MAKE SURE to use happiness booster right after it goes back to normal.

CANDY JUMPS :

Candy Jumps are like happy jumps, but for beginners and penny pinchers. Basically instead of using DVDS that are 4m a piece, you use candy (lollipops or bonbons) and ecstacy to get higher happy. Even though the boost isn't NEAR a happy jump, they can still give considerable stats.

48 candy (lollipops or bonbons) $

1 ecstasy ($

Total: $3.5mil+/- 32 Hours (price may vary slightly depending on market value)

With a empty energy bar (0/150), use a xanax. This will give you 250 energy

After drug cooldown has ended, use another xanax. This will get you to 750 energy

After drug cooldown has ended, use another xanax. This will get you to 1,000 energy

Wait for Drug cooldown and Booster cooldown to reach ZERO 00:00

Wait for the time to be xx:01 / xx:16 / xx:31 / xx:46

use all 48 candy

Use an Ecstasy pill. Ecstasy will double your current happiness

Torn City Guides

General guide to getting started in torn.

Hello, welcome to Torn City! Im George, feel free to PM me if you need help or ever have any questions. I also urge you to add me as a friend to save my name :)

1) GET TO LEVEL 15 AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. Getting to level 15 unlocks the travel agency. This allows for traveling, where you can fly all over the world, buy plushies and flowers for cheap, and sell them for thousands more back home, or traded for points in the museum. Traveling also allows the ability to travel to Switzerland for rehabilitation, and China for the fortune teller. Players can make millions of dollars a day traveling this way if done right. The quickest way to do this is through leveling targets. These are (moderately) high level players with very low battle stats for their level. Attacking and leaving these players will greatly reduce the time needed to get to level 15, and I recommend using ALL energy doing this. But although they are weak, they are not completely defenseless and will require at least a little of each battle stat to defeat. Until you get about 300-1000 stats, or if you are consistently losing, I would recommend training instead. Here  is  Triplicant's  leveling target list, sorted by level. Once you find some leveling targets that work for you and you can reliably defeat, add them to your enemies list. This will do two things. It will save their name to keep them separate from other leveling targets on the list, and it will also, if you go to the enemies page, easily show you when they are okay and able to be attacked. 2) SELLING LOSSES. Selling losses is where older players will pay (sometimes up to 300k each, don't do less than 200k each) for you to attack and lose to them. To do this go to forums> attacking and see who's paying the most. Then you attack and lose to them on purpose. Depending on their instructions, you either just wait and they'll pay you, or send them a message detailing how many attacks you did. (Be sure to have plenty of small first aid kits on hand first) Although this is a quick and reliable way of getting money as a very new player, I do not recommend this unless necessary, as it will take its toll on your battle stats/leveling progress. Using Xanax you can attack and lose a few times, buy more Xanax, do it over and over, and soon you'll have enough to train with and attack leveling targets.

3) CONSIDER DONATOR/SUBSCRIBER STATUS Although it may be expensive for new players, (they can also be bought individually for $5 each in the Donator House, supporting Torn), it will be worth it. Among its many perks, the most important and helpful is its increased maximum energy and quickened energy regeneration. (100max -> 150 max), (5 energy/15 minutes -> 5 energy/10 minutes) Subscriber also has monthly gifts (books, etc) which are VERY helpful, and a daily point giveaway. 4) BUY/RENT A PRIVATE ISLAND Private Islands, also known as PI's, are extremely helpful in Torn. Living in a PI can GREATLY increase maximum happy (happy effects gym gains significantly), and once level 15, a private island with an airstrip will reduce travel time, and increase travel capacity. Travel capacity is the number of items you can bring back from abroad. This can be increased with an airstrip, books, company specials, suitcases (highly recommended), and the Excursion faction upgrade. 5) FIND A FACTION Faction membership is imperative. They can loan you weapons and armor which you could not otherwise afford, provide drugs (though usually not Xanax), medical supplies, temporary weapons, help you with any questions you may have, and let's not forget the upgrades! Faction upgrades can increase passive stats, stat gains, medical product efficiency, reduce overdose chances, increase travel capacity, and much, much more. It is very important you find a faction with good perks that suit your play style. Generally, the factions with the highest respect will have the best perks, although some will have requirements a new player won't be able to fulfill. Respect can be used by factions to upgrade their upgrade tree, unlocking some of the MANY upgrades available. 6) YOUR SEASONAL FREEBEE This can only be used 4 times every year, once per newsletter, but it can be very helpful. If you go to settings>email subscriptions and get Torn to resend the last newsletter, and scroll all the way to the bottom, click the freebee link, you get 250 FREE ENERGY credited to your account. Although many people will say to save until you are fully stacked for a happy jump, it can be just as helpful to use first thing in the game, to sell losses for more Xanax, for example. 7) FIND A JOB It may be hard, and not in your best interest, to right away work for a company. I would actually recommend working for the army until you get the 300 INT needed to work for education. Then just stay in education for a while. It is (without buying expensive company trains) the fastest way to grow work stats due to its job specials. 8) ALWAYS DO YOUR MISSIONS Doing missions is a must every day. Doing the missions you get (1 per day at exactly 00:00) can provide you with invaluable missions credits, which can be used to buy specialty ammunition, gun mods, and books, all very helpful and untradable, meaning that they CANNOT be bought on the item market, private bazaars, or from other players. 9) TORN TERMS Many players will use 'Torn terms'. (Some of which I've used in this guide). Andyman's guide I find very helpful, which can be found  here . Andyman has also written many other very helpful, informative guides to many aspects of Torn, which I'd also recommend you check out.

10) MERITS I recommend starting with upgrading education time reduction until it is maxed out. From there, merit upgrades vary greatly from player to player based on play style and strategy.

  • Take cannabis, lots of it. if u OD, you get a merit. (I OD'ed 12th try :P) if u took 50 total, you get a merit too
  • Pray at the church twice a day (with like an 8hr gap at least) for a week and a half (rosary beads will help with this)
  • Use all your daily 75 casino tokens on roulette. Everyday. For 2 weeks. Enjoy
  • Play Spin the Wheel every day for all 3 wheels until you get each respective honor bar (requires level 7)
  • Have only 20$ on you and then get mugged. (If you only got mugged for 1$, you got the merit. good for you. now laugh at your mugger)
  • Donate 100k, 1M or 100M to the church (if u donate 100M once u get all 3 merits)
  • You know the 10 000 shoplift crimes merit? take 5 000 of the jackets you stole and throw them in the dump
  • Use a blood bag with an incompatible blood type to yours (requires intravenous therapy education course)
  • Go back to Baldr's List, Domino Effect leveling list and attack and leave anyone there.
  • Attack someone in your faction and win (preferable ask them first lol)
  • Make an investment in the city bank (1$ for 1 week will do)

Andyman wrote a great guide about merit spending that can be found  here . I recommend you check it out! :D 11) EDUCATION There are a dozen courses of education available in Torn City University ranging from the ability to send messages anonymously to the ability to use blood bags. My recommendation would be to start with the sports science course, as it increases battle stat gym gains. After that most people will agree the Intravenous Therapy class within the biology course is next, and in my opinion followed by combat training, as it is good to start gaining weapon EXP early. 12) ALWAYS DO YOUR CRIMES Crimes, while not very profitable at first, can set you on the long road to the coveted 60 NNB (natural nerve bar). This, while usually taking many years, will not only allow you to get more money through crimes, but you may also be placed in a political assassination team, a faction-run organized crime in which some factions may give percentages of the money earned to the members participating. If you are having trouble with crimes (getting lots of blues and reds), you may want to consider buying an enhancer or maybe even going down a step and doing easier crimes to build crime XP. 13) TRAINING Once you are level 15, all of your energy should go into training. It significantly affects the outcome of attacks, which can be very helpful throughout all aspects of Torn. There are many items which will help you train, including Xanax, ecstasy, erotic DVDs, feathery hotel coupon, and energy drinks. Happy jumps, while expensive, can greatly help with stat gains and get you started off well. IT typically involves stacking to 1,000 energy using Xanax, maxing out your booster cooldown with erotic DVDs, then doubling happiness with ecstasy. Once it is all trained, you refill your energy bar using 25 points then train some more. Be careful though, happy reset to its regular maximum every 15 minutes (synced to the clock). Make sure to start your happy jump right after the last reset to make sure you will have enough time to get all the way through it. 14) DOCTORN AND TORNSTATS Although not necessary, it is highly recommended you get DocTorn and TornStats. These and other API extensions and websites can aid in your gameplay significantly. DocTorn includes various helpful tools including Quick Links, City Finds, player stakeout, and much more. TornStats is also providing helpful tools such as a CE calculator, battle stats tracker, net worth tracker, company efficiency tracker, weapons EXP tracker, faction spies database, etc. 15) SCAMS, BUY/CANCEL MUGGING, AND SAFE MONEY STORAGE Many players will try to scam you out of your money in various types of ways. 'Storing' money for you, 'investments', and telling you their trade feature doesn't work to get you to send them the money are all common ways people will try to scam you. A trade feature not working it 10/10 a scam. This should be reported on the bugs and issues forum page and will be immediately fixed. NEVER send anyone money or items you are not okay with losing; you may never see it again. Scamming is NOT against Torn's rules, so staff will not be able to get your money or items back if you happen to be scammed. BE CAREFUL.  If someone scams or mugs you, if you want, you can add them to your enemies list, which if settings permit, will block them from trading with you, buying items from your bazaar, and buying your item market listing, protecting you from further muggings. Mugging, buy mugging, or cancel mugging are other ways people will try to get ahold of your hard-earned money. Buy mugging is after someone does a trade with you in which you are the seller, they or a friend will immediately attack and mug you in hopes of stealing some of the money. Cancel mugging is similar, but instead of waiting until the trade is over, while you are trying to buy something, while the money is in the trade, they will cancel it, returning all assets to the original owner. Once your money is back in your wallet, they will attack and mug you, stealing a portion of the money. Players have devised many clever ways to avoid muggings, including ghost trades (you start an empty trade with someone to store money, then cancel to get the money out), faction vaults, traveling (only works for bazaar/item market sales as trading cannot occur while abroad. also only. works while actively on a plane, once you land you can be attacked/mugged), and the most popular probably being self hospitalization. Self hospitalization is when you use the wrong type of blood bag, a SED, or have a friend hospitalize you BEFORE the trade. This makes it you cannot be attacked since you are already in the hospital, so cannot be mugged. From there, with your extra time, you can add it to a ghost trade, put it into a faction vault, etc. But be careful to turn OFF your revive settings, otherwise, you can be revived then mugged while you have cash on hand. Another way people can store money is the piggy bank item, acquired in the mission shop for 5 mission credits. you can infinitely add money to the piggy bank, but there is only one way to get money out-- smashing it. This will return all the contents of the piggy bank to your wallet, and rid you of the piggy bank for further use. This can only be bought once, so be careful not to smash it too early.

Once a player reaches Level 15, he is able to travel to certain destinations

This is a list of all currently available destinations and the time needed to travel to each of them:

Mexico 20min (14 min with Airstrip) Canada 37min (26min with Airstrip) Cayman Islands 57min (40min with Airstrip) Hawaii 2h 1min (1h 25min with Airstrip) United Kingdom 2h 32min (1h 47min with Airstrip) Switzerland 2h 49min (1h 58min with Airstrip) Argentina 3h 9min (2h 13min with Airstrip) Japan 3h 23min (2h 22min with Airstrip) China 3h 39min (2h 33min with Airstrip) United Arab Emirates 4h 19min (3h 1min with Airstrip) South Africa 5h 11min (3h 37min with Airstrip)

Each destination has it's own items and item prices. A player can initially bring only 5 items back, but can increase this number by buyinb Suitcases (E.G. with a Medium Suitcase, a player can bring back a total of 8 items)

Travelling inflicts the economy in many ways, since it can be a decent way to make profit, as well as to save up, but it also allows many more things to be done, E.G. In Cayman Islands you can put Money in a savings account by paying a 3% fee, but this Money can only be withdrawn by you when visiting Cayman Islands, making it nearly impossible for it to be stolen

While travelling, players can also attack other players, possibly mugging them for some extra income, or just to cover the fees of travelling itself

There are multiple ways to reduce travelling time, one of which is having a Private Island with an Airstrip, which greatly reduces the time needed to travel to various Destinations

In South Africa, players are given the option of Hunting, investing Money and Energy but gaining even more Money back and also increasing their Hunting Stats. There are three known Merits that can be gained by Hunting

In China, players can get a "Prediction" (Players can pay Money in order to find out how close they are to their next Levelup)

Moscow destroying yet another historic district

Slavic Travels Uncategorized

Moscow is not for the faint of heart. I love this city. But it pains me to see how the people in charge are destroying it. Every few months news comes out about another historic building the government has declared too old to save and needs to be razed to the ground.

As a result, the historic core of Moscow is slowly disappearing.

Few efforts are made to restore and renovate old buildings. When old buildings do receive historic status all too often they are left as they are until they deteriorate and collapse on their own. A recent example of this occurred in the city of Tver, three hours northwest of Moscow. The city’s historic river port which was once the pride and symbol of the city was left abandoned for years with no efforts made to restore it. In late summer 2017 the roof collapsed .

Often this tactic is done on purpose. When a historic building collapses on its own or deteriorates to the point that it is impossible for anyone to use, this then frees up land in the center of the city for developers to come in and build something new.

But sometimes it’s even worse when the government does decide to renovate buildings. Instead of performing a proper restoration and trying to save as much of the old historic appearance as possible, the government does a cheap paint job. They paint over the crumbling exterior and deem that they restored the building. In actual fact, they turned a historic building into a version of Disneyland.

Here is how columns to the Winter Palace in Saint Petersburg were recently ‘renovated’. The old stones were simply painted over with white paint, the kind you would use to paint the inside of your house. The stone columns which showcased just how old the building was, were simply covered over.

So another one of the country’s most famous landmarks now looks no different from a modern day building built with cheap imitation brick.

This isn’t just happening in Saint Petersburg. Here is the most famous building in the Kitai Gorod area of Moscow. The building stood empty and abandoned for many years. Recently the city decided it was time to renovate it in time for the World Cup in June 2018. A proper renovation is a long, complex and expensive process. It can sometimes take several years. In Moscow this took a few months with simply a cheap paint job. Another historic building in Moscow will now look like Disneyland when it’s done.

If this is happening to the country’s most famous and important landmarks, imagine what is happening to lesser known buildings around the country.

The short answer is nothing good.

They are massively being torn down by developers. It would not be an understatement to say there is an architectual genocide going on in Russia. All across the country, old buildings that make up the European heritage of Russia are disappearing.

One such example recently came up in the Krasnoselsky Region of Moscow near Sokolniki in the Northeastern part of Moscow on Rusakovskaya Street.

The area in question is a small set of buildings built in the 1920’s. They are examples of Soviet constructivist architecture, a form of modern avant-garde architecture that flourished in the Soviet Union in the 1920’s and 1930’s. In other words, it is a unique form of Russian architecture that cannot be found in other parts of the world.

Not much constructivist architecture is left in Moscow and Russia. Unfortunately such architecture is not deemed to have historical significance as people tend to assume anything built by the communists had no historic value.

The buildings on Rusakovskaya Street have stood empty for many years. The buildings are being torn down in order to build apartment blocks where residents of Moscow’s controversial renovation program will be moved to.

Since the buildings will in all likelihood be torn down, I decided I would go on a walk and explore the area to take some final photos of these buildings before they disappear into the pages of history forever.

In other words, you can simply walk to train stations that take you direction to Saint Petersburg from Moscow, which are only a 20 minute walk away.

“At the moment, three buildings in the Rusakovka housing complex – large multistory buildings, each of which includes several dozens of apartments – have been cleared of their inhabitants and stand empty. And in a few other buildings in Rusakovka there live extremely remarkable citizens. These citizens don’t like the apartments in which they live. And this is of course their own personal matter. Anyone has the right to either like or dislike the place where they live.”

“However, for some unknown reasons, these remarkable citizens believe that instead of their own apartments which they do not like, the city of Moscow should give them ownership of other apartments with more space. On top of that, these new apartments should be built for them using taxpayer’s money. Stranger still, these ridiculous citizens are requiring the government provide them with new free apartments, built on the money of other taxpayers as quick as possible, and also close to where they live now.

Travel hacks for your Moscow business trip

torn city travel business

Moscow has three main international airports: Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo and Vnukovo. From all of them can you can get to the city via the Aeroexpress Train or taxi.

Please follow the signs to get to the Aeroexpress Station. If you have any trouble, go to the nearest Information Stand – the attendants there speak English, and surely will be able to assist you. The Aeroexpress Trains will take you to one of Moscow’s train stations, depending on which airport you leave from. Travel time is about 30 minutes. Tickets cost 340 rubles (7 euros or $10), and you can buy them from a vending machine just before train departure (credit cards are accepted), or to save time, buy your tickets in advance from the Aeroexpress website.

If you prefer, you can grab a taxi. You will need to order your vehicle in advance; otherwise, you run the risk of becoming a victim of the privateer taxi drivers, who will aggressively offer you their services as soon as you leave the arrivals area. Ignore them.

http://www.taxi-pilot.ru/eng/taxi_in_moscow.html

http://www.9995556.ru/about (possibility of renting a car with driver)

http://www.womantaxi.ru/ (female taxis – drivers are women)

http://www.moscowminitaxi.ru (possibility of renting a car with a driver for a day or longer)

Bankcards and money

The official currency of Russia is the ruble, and payment in other currencies is not possible. You can change your money into rubles right at the airport, but not at very favorable rates. If you need cash to pay for your taxi (the average price from the airport to the city center is 800–1,200 rubles (17–25 euros or $ 24-35), and credit cards are not accepted), then change a small amount at the airport. After that, exchange the rest at a more favorable rate in any bank in the city. In Moscow, almost everywhere you can pay by credit card, with the exception of some small shops, subway ticket offices (!) and most museums. However, it is always best to have cash in your wallet, because if a bankcard terminal is not working at a store, you will learn this only when you reach the checkout counter: posting announcements about such problems is not done in Moscow. In addition, if the seller does not have change for a large bill, he/she will likely ask you to solve this problem yourself, in which case you will have to resort to using your bankcard.

Getting around in the city

Ideally, if your office and hotel are located not far from each other in the city center, then you can walk between the two places. The territory of Moscow is huge, and trying to get to faraway places on foot is impossible. Alternatives are the Metro (subway) and taxis. Pros of the former are the speed and relative cheapness, cons are the intolerable stuffiness in the railcars and the huge number of passengers. The pros of the latter mode are obvious, but all these are nullified in monstrous Moscow traffic jams during rush hour. Rule number one: plan your meetings in advance and choose the appropriate times and modes of transportation.

By the way, along with the “official” taxis, people in Moscow often use private “motorists.” You can flag down a car anywhere in the city, just go to the roadside and raise your hand in a characteristic gesture. The average price in the city is about 300 rubles (6 euros or $9). Keep in mind that when you travel with a private “motorist,” you are responsible for your own safety. Phone numbers of emergency services are given in the box.

Translation problems

Contrary to the opinion of Muscovites, in Moscow very few people can speak normal English. Yes, they will be able to explain to you how to get somewhere in English, but not much more than that. If you will need to converse a lot, it is better to use the services of a personal translator. This service is provided by translation bureaus and specialized agencies. Here we list some of them:

Where to work

Moscow has no shortage of restaurants for holding business meetings. However, as far as good work spaces go, the city offers limited opportunities. If you need to rent an office for a few days, with all the necessary equipment, then take advantage of the co-working centers. Recently, this concept has gained a lot of popularity in Moscow, so it will not be hard to find something suitable: for example, a strict office for a serious meeting in the business district of the MIBC Moscow-City, or the so-called creative space for creative work near a park.

By the way, socket types C and F of 220 V are used in Russia, so do not forget the 220-volt adapter for your laptop.

Emergency numbers

In Russia, a common three-digit number system is used to call different services in an emergency: Ambulance – 103, Police – 102, rescuers and firefighters – 101, 112.

A Private Island with airstrip provides +10, removes the cost of flying and reduces travel time by 30%. I highly recommend renting a private island that has an airstrip for 7 days to get you started. This should not cost more than $3.5m ($500k per day). Once you have moved in you need to hire a Pilot. After that you're set to fly fast and cheap.
