The Cure Announce 2016 North American Tour Dates With Support from the Twilight Sad

The Cure , who recently announced that they would head out on a North American tour next year, have now announced the full schedule of dates with support from the Twilight Sad which will include three nights at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl another triple stint at New York City's Madison Square Garden .

The band behind everyone's favorite Friday ballad, " Friday I'm In Love ," will visit some cities that they haven't been to since 2008. The 26-date tour will kick off in mid-May 2016 and will span until the end of June. Among their to be announced venues, the band promises a show in the Seattle area, with many speculating will be an appeareance at the Sasquatch! Music Festival .

The band's current lineup consists of iconic frontman Robert Smith , along with Simon Gallup on bass, Jason Cooper on drums, Roger O'Donnell on keys and Reeves Gabrels on guitar. According to a press release  posted on the band's official website, The Cure will be performing "37 years of Cure songs, mixing hits, rarities, favourites and as yet unreleased tracks in a brand new stage production."

Serving as The Cure's opening act for all dates will be the Twilight Sad, a band that Smith is personally fond of, even recently covering their song " There's a Girl in the Corner ."

Although the band hasn't released any new material since 2008's 4:13 Dream , Smith told London's XFM  last year that he has some new material finished and was mixing it at the time.

"I've finished singing and mixing an album that was made by a band that no longer exists," he said, "So I'm trying to be convinced that I should release what is the second half of an album that effectively came out in 2008," he said. "It's a bit of a sore point, really, to be honest, amongst this current lineup. But I think it will get released. ... I don't feel such a strong urge, really, to beat people over the head with new stuff. It will just come out and people who want to hear it will hear it and those who don't, won't, and they'll just keep dancing to 'Close to Me.'"

The Cure Plot 2016 North American Tour

  • By Jon Blistein

Jon Blistein

The Cure  will return to North America in 2016 for a 27-show, 22-city tour for their first significant continental trek since 2008.

The tour begins May 11th in New Orleans and is scheduled to wrap June 26th at the Bayfront Park Amphitheater in Miami, Florida. According to a note on the band’s website , the group’s setlists will “explore 37 years of Cure songs,” including hits, deep cuts and as-yet-unreleased tracks. The Twilight Sad will serve as openers on all dates.

Tickets for most shows will go on sale on November 13th or 14th, though on-sale and venue information for some concerts has yet to be announced. A concert in Seattle, Washington is also in the works, though no date, on-sale or show info is available. A current list of dates is below; additional information will be available on the Cure’s website  in the coming weeks.

The Cure preempted the full itinerary of their 2016 trek with news of a handful of shows in New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles. The group is currently scheduled to play three sold-out concerts at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles (May 22nd, 23rd and 24th); two sold out shows at Chicago’s U.I.C. Pavilion (June 10th and 11th); and three nights at Madison Square Garden in NYC (June 18th, 19th and 20th; tickets are still available for the 20th).

Though the Cure have not toured North America in seven years, the beloved post-punk outfit has played a number of festivals during that time, including Coachella , Lollapalooza , Austin City Limits , Riot fest  and Voodoo Experience . The group’s current lineup features frontman and mastermind Robert Smith, Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums), Roger O’Donnell (keys) and Reeves Gabrels (guitar).

The Cure add more tourdates to their 2016 North American Tour | Plus reveal more tour details and hint at possible new album

[dropcap]More[/dropcap] details are surfacing regarding The Cure’s 2016 North American tour, a tour that is possibly celebrating the band’s 40th year in existence (if you count 1976 as a starting point). Interesting to note is that mentioned in the status update is the promise of “yet unreleased tracks”, so I think it is safe to assume that there will be yet another Cure album on the way…maybe?  Material from the planned followup to 4:13 Dream , such as 4:14 Scream and/or   4:26 Dream ?  Or something entirely new?

Rumour has it that The Cure are also planning a European leg of the tour for next fall, but we can’t confirm if that is true or not at this time. However, given the format and production details below, It’s probable that dates in Germany, for example, would probably not translate well into a festival lineup.

Fingers crossed!

UPDATE: PRESALE CODES AT CHAIN OF FLOWERS!

“THE CURE TOUR 2016” will present Robert Smith (voice/guitar), Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums), Roger O’Donnell (keys) and Reeves Gabrels (guitar) as they explore 37 years of Cure songs, mixing hits, rarities, favourites and as yet unreleased tracks in a brand new stage production that promises to be the ‘must see’ show of the year!

The Cure reveal details of 2016 North American tour

Last month, The Cure announced they’re hitting the road in the U.S. and Canada for the first time since 2008. Tickets for shows in the cities the group revealed in October — three performances at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Bowl, two shows at Chicago’s U.I.C. Pavilion, and three dates at New York City’s Madison Square Garden — already sold out.

Luckily for fans of Robert Smith and Co., The Cure announced dates for the remainder of their 22-city tour on Tuesday, including four stops throughout Texas, three visits to Canada, and a TBD date in Seattle.

The Cure Tour 2016 will “explore 37 Cure songs, mixing hits, rarities, favourites, and as yet unreleased tracks,” per their site . The Twilight Sad will open for the English rock band beginning May 11 when the tour kicks off in New Orleans. The Cure Tour 2016 will conclude in Miami June 26.

Ticket sales for the majority of the next wave of dates begin Friday, with the remainder waiting of a until Saturday or Nov. 27 to begin sales. Check The Cure’s website for details.

The Cure Tour 2016 To “Explore 37 Years of Cure Songs…” While Traveling The World

April 22, 2016 by Jason DeBord Leave a Comment

Alternative music legends The Cure are kicking off their first major U.S. tour in seven years next month, with dozens of shows and festival appearances.  After back-to-back shows in Hawaii in July, the band then plays dates throughout the rest of the world, all culminating in a series of shows at SSE Arena in Wembley in December.  I’ve had the good fortune to have seen them play a few times in the past few years (in Honolulu and London ) and I cannot fathom how they will be able to play so many dates in such a fashion, with their endless setlists of endless hits and rare tracks alike.  In any event, the world is in for a treat, as they are one of the best bands of my generation, and they put on some of the best live shows I’ve ever seen.

This tour will feature Robert Smith (voice/guitar), Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums), Roger O’Donnell (keys) and Reeves Gabrels (guitar).  The Twilight Sad is supporting all dates.

the cure 2016 tour support

The Cure kicked off their latest US tour in New Orleans on Tuesday night. Leading up to the jaunt, the band had promised “37 years of Cure songs, mixing hits, rarities, favourites, and as yet unreleased tracks,” and they certainly delivered as much in the Big Easy.

Robert Smith and co. performed a 28 song set that included the first performance of Kiss Me track  “All I Want” in 30 years. They also dusted off “A Letter to Elise” and “At Night” after several years, in addition to a rare appearance of “Burn” off The Crow soundtrack.

Most notably, however, were the debut of two new songs: “Step Into the Light” and “It Can Never Be the Same”. Listen to audio bootlegs of both below.

Setlist: Open alt.end All I Want (First performance since 1987) Push In Between Days From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea Step Into the Light (New song) Sleep When I’m Dead A Letter to Elise (First performance since 2008) High The Walk Lovesong Just Like Heaven Trust Want The Hanging Garden One Hundred Years End

Encore: At Night (First performance since 2011) M Play for Today A Forest

Encore 2: Dressing Up Piggy in the Mirror Shake Dog Shake Give Me It

Encore 3: Burn

Encore 4: It Can Never Be the Same (New song)

The Cure’s tour continues tonight in New Orleans and stretches through early December. Don’t worry, there are plenty of more rarities still to dust off .

The Cure 2016 Tour Banner

Post-punk legends The Cure have just added 30 more shows to their 2016 tour, bringing the total to 56 dates across North America and Europe, as the band head out on their longest trek in years. The European shows, taking in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, France, Spain, Portugal and the UK, will mark their first full tour of Europe since the 2008 release of their latest album, 4:13 Dream .

With 13 studio albums behind them, The Cure have amassed a singular body of work since the release of their 1979 debut, Three Imaginary Boys . Defining both the post-punk and goth genres, and recording crossover hits including ‘Friday I’m In Love’ and ‘The Love Cats’, Robert Smith and co now promise to “explore 37 years of Cure songs” on the tour, mixing classic singles, rare album cuts and fan favourites alongside a mouth-watering promise of “as yet unreleased tracks”. Bringing with them an explosive “brand new stage production”, with support on all dates from Scottish post-punk outfit The Twlight Sad, The Cure’s 2016 tour will doubtless become the must-see event of the year for fans.
