Cultural celebrations
For centuries, cultures worldwide have held festivals and events to express gratitude, give thanks and celebrate new beginnings. With traditional fashions filling the streets and rejoicing locals around every corner, there’s no better way to experience a new way of life.
Share your passion
Whether you’re head-banging at your favorite concert , making your multi-colored mark at a Pride parade, or gaining a deeper understanding of your faith , centering your itinerary around an event can create deep connections and unify like-minded people.
Just have fun
Life can get notoriously busy, and allowing ourselves to have some dedicated time out is hard. A vacation package featuring a festival or event can be the perfect way to switch off and have fun. Let your hair down, dance like nobody’s watching, or show off your moves at a carnival.
Feel like a kid again
We’re not just talking about the seniors here. Ever since we were kids, we’ve had big dreams, and while we can’t turn you into an astronaut, you can dress up like one! Festivals allow us to express ourselves and bring our childhood fantasies to life, so what are you waiting for?
Seasonal Holiday Packages
Are you the kind of person that puts your Christmas tree up in November, welcomes in the New Year with celebrations, carves out pumpkins for your doorstep, or hides chocolate for an Easter egg hunt? Then a dedicated holiday package is for you. Seasonal adventures combine the world’s wonders with celebrations for a unique twist on your organized adventure.

Your festival & events questions, answered, how do i know a festival & events adventure is right for me.
Perhaps you have a bucket list event, are looking for the perfect way to let your hair down, or want to celebrate with friends? With your accommodation, meals, and supplies sorted, an organized adventure takes the stress away so that you can fully enjoy the experience.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Like any adventure, the further in advance you book, the better chance you have of securing your spot, and a festive tour is no different. Events often have limited tickets available, so if you have your eye on a specific one, it’s best to book as early as possible.
Will my adventure be full of young people?
People of all ages love to celebrate! You should expect to meet different people from all over the world. Some festive adventures might see more young people attending—such as the Sziget Festival —compared to ANZAC Day events and the Royal Ascot , where the average age is more varied. Ultimately, you should choose an event that seems right for you.
Is admission included?
A specialized Festival & Events adventure has an itinerary centered around the festival or event, so the ticket is sometimes included in the total cost . However, some festivals offer different perks and levels of access depending on your ticket, so it’s common for your admission to be excluded so that you can choose how you celebrate. When in doubt, reach out to our Customer Support team.
Can I combine Adventure styles?
Yes absolutely! An adventure is what you make of it, so why not add on wine tasting in France , an island-hopping escape to the Greek Islands, or a wild safari ride in Kenya?
How do I book a Festival & Events adventure on TourRadar?
Find your next Festival & Events trip by searching through our adventures until you find one that stands out. Simply select your dates and fill out your details to secure your trip. If you have any questions, our Customer Support team is standing by 24/7.

Passport invites.
Transport your guests into the world of travel from the very beginning of the party—the invites. With a passport themed invitation, you can literally give your guests a ticket to an around the world themed party adventure. Encourage guests to bring their passport invitations so you can use them for a fun party game.
Stamp your Passport
The best part about traveling internationally is getting your passport stamped! Travel around the world and stamp guest’s passports at each country station for an authentic feel. With themed stamps or stickers for every location, these passports can be a creative take-home item for guests to remember their travels and party.
In an effort to take some stress away from the host and a great way to learn about your guests, host an around the world party potluck! Encourage guests to bring a traditional dish that represents their heritage and share a piece of themselves with the party. Not only will you check food off of your party planning list, but you will also create memories and connect with your guests. Pizza, tacos, and gyros sound delicious to us!
Currency Exchange Photo Booth
Combining a photo booth and around the world party decorations will add a creative and interactive element to your celebration. Allow guests to place fake currency, like yen, dollars, or euros into a photo booth where they can enter to capture memories. This is a delightful blend of finance and fun, and every click of the camera will commemorate your around the world party adventure.
Find a Photo Booth
Country Stations
The easiest way to achieve world traveler status for this around the world party is to set up stations for different countries. Guests can travel between countries to try different food, listen to cultural music, and maybe even learn a dance. If you want to bring your country stations to the next level, consider booking live music like Irish bagpipes , Italian singers , or even a Latin DJ .
Night in Paris
You’re definitely going to want to include the City of Lights for a Paris station. Transport your guests to a Parisian cafe with delicious pastries, cheese, and macarons. Hire an accordion player for some added romance and decorate this destination with twinkly lights and an Eiffel Tower centerpiece.
Las Vegas Casino
Just because this is an around the world themed party doesn’t mean you can’t stay domestic! Use glittering lights, oversized playing cards, and neon signs to recreate the high-energy ambiance of the famous Las Vegas strip. Set up a cocktail bar staffed with a bartender to make classic cocktails like martinis and cosmopolitans, and bring the Las Vegas magic to life by renting casino games , hiring a magician , mentalist , fortune teller , or a tarot card reader .
Arabian Nights
Take a magic carpet ride to the Middle East with details from an Arabian nights party theme. Guests can enjoy shawarma and hummus, watch professional belly dancers , or even get a temporary tattoo from a talented henna artist .
Mexican Fiesta
Infuse your around the world party with the vibrant energy and flavors of Mexico by incorporating Mexican fiesta details! Turn this station into a colorful area with bright papel picado banners, piñatas, sombreros, and a mouth watering spread of traditional Mexican dishes.
African Safari
As you embark on your party all around the world, explore the untamed beauty of an African safari for an adventurous touch. Wrangle your station into an African savanna decorated with earthy tones, animal prints, and you could hire a face painter to transform your guests into wild animals or book an African band to delve into the culture.
British Tea Party
This station will be everyone's cup of tea—literally. Take part in the refined tradition of a British tea party at your around the world themed party. With floral centerpieces, fine china teacups and saucers, this tea time playlist , and a pastel color scheme, your guests will have their pinkies up, Bridgerton style .
Western Party
Saddle up and get ready for a rootin'-tootin' good time as you add a thrilling wild west adventure to your around the world themed party. Create an authentic western atmosphere by incorporating hay bales, wooden barrels, and decorating cowboy hats. Set the stage with a country playlist or a live country band to make for some good old-fashioned country fun.
Pro Tip: If western isn’t your style, you can always take a coastal cowgirl take on the western theme.
Create an oasis during the around the world fun with Hawaiian luau details! From the limbo to leis, everyone will go coconuts over this tropical party station. Hire a hula dancer or a ukulele player to set the beachy vibe as a perfect addition to your around the world party theme.
Send everyone's taste buds on a global culinary adventure by hiring a caterer to bring various cuisines to life. Consider crowd-pleasers such as sushi rolls from Japan, savory tapas from Spain, or creamy pasta from Italy to create your around the world dinner party menu. Be sure to label each dish with its country of origin for an authentic touch.
Pro Tip: Work with your caterer beforehand to see if they are willing to dress the part for this theme. If so, you can provide flight attendant and pilot uniforms for servers as an added travel touch.
Find a Caterer
Treasure Hunt
Add a thrilling adventure to your around the world themed party with a global treasure hunt that will have your guests exploring continents, solving clues, and uncovering hidden treasures. Hide clues or fun facts at each country station and allow guests to travel the globe as guests explore to solve! The details in this quest will also double as perfect around the world party decorations. A global treasure hunt adds an exciting and interactive element as your guests party all around the world solving riddles and games!
Globe Cake
The perfect centerpiece for your party all around the world is a globe cake! Picture a cake shaped like a round globe, complete with intricate details like the continents, oceans, and even tiny edible landmarks representing the places you're celebrating. A globe cake is sure to be a delightful and Instagram-worthy addition to your global adventure-themed celebration. You could also very easily decorate sugar cookies to look like globes too!
Flag Decorations
Flag decorations are a simple but great way to infuse your around the world themed party with culture. Whether it's the stars and stripes of the USA, the Union Jack of the UK, or the bold colors of the Mexican flag, flags make the perfect around the world party decorations. So, unroll the flags, let them wave in the wind, and watch as they turn your party into a global celebration!
Postcards featuring iconic landmarks from different nations can become keepsakes that your guests can take home as mementos of their party around the world. Whether used as interactive elements, decorations, or party favors, postcards add a unique and heartfelt dimension to your adventurous celebration.
Suitcase Decor
Imagine your venue adorned with vintage suitcases, both big and small, stacked and open, bursting with exotic trinkets, travel souvenirs, and faux passports. Suitcases as decor will not only create an ambiance of globetrotting excitement but also serve as functional elements, doubling as unique storage solutions or display pieces for party favors.
Inflatable Globes

Festivals & Special Events Attractions & Landmarks Guide
Festivals, which you can find the world over in a myriad of forms, aren't just fun -- they're a reflection of a culture. Some are centuries old celebrations, such as Il Palio, an elaborate horse race in Siena, Italy. Others are more recent in vintage, such as San Francisco's annual Gay Pride Parade. And of course, many are indeed great fun, such as Rio's Carnaval, New Orleans' Mardi Gras, and Spain's chaotic Tomato Festival, in which everyone pelts each other with juicy red fruit. Special events may include Christmas Markets in Germany or New England fall foliage tours. Whatever your favorite festival or event, a good tour will take you there.
Festivals can be among the most memorable and colorful experiences in travel.
Whether you’re shouting “Hey, Mister, throw me some….” as the krewe floats pass by at Mardi Gras in New Orleans; watching a solemn religious procession at Semana Santa in Seville, Spain; downing way too much beer at an Oktoberfest tent in Bavaria, Germany; or checking out the wares at India’s exotic Pushkar Camel Fair, festivals can be fun and frenetic but also fascinating, by serving as a window into the very heart of a culture.
They can also be just plain wacky or offbeat, such as Spain’s La Tomatina (tomato-throwing) or South Korea’s Boryeong Mud Festival (mud play).
Here’s a calendar of major festivals around the globe as they take place throughout the year. Note that many dates are approximate and change based on factors such as holidays or lunar cycles.
Top January Festivals Around the World
Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival, Harbin, China. This is the world’s largest snow and ice sculpture festival and, appropriately, features the largest actual sculptures as well. Starting in early January each year, it runs for an entire month. Harbin is in northeast China, and, perhaps needless to say, is cold in winter, but the festival attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators.
Quebec Winter Carnival, Quebec City, Canada. Quebec’s two-week-long Winter Carnival, which typically starts in late January and runs into February, is a celebration of all things snow: It’s the world’s largest winter carnival and ranks third for all carnivals after those in Rio and New Orleans (Mardi Gras). Winter sports, dogsled races, snow sculptures, an ice hotel and more are featured.
Top February Festivals Around the World
Carnaval, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Extravagantly designed yet skimpy costumes, samba dancing, and a certain degree of licentiousness mark Rio’s Carnaval, held in the week leading up to Ash Wednesday and the 40 days of Lenten sacrifice. This is the place to drop your inhibitions and let yourself go, in the company of a million other visitors. Since Carnaval dates are tied to Easter, they differ each year and may extend into March.
Mardi Gras, New Orleans, Louisiana. With similar timing to Carnaval, Mardi Gras culminates in a parade of brilliantly decorated floats sponsored by a variety of krewes (clubs). Krewe members typically toss out beads and candy to spectators, who have also been known to imbibe a bit on Bourbon Street.
Chinese New Year, San Francisco, California (and many other cities around the world with large Chinese populations, including, of course, in China). Chinese New Year, which varies with the lunar calendar and sometimes falls in March, is celebrated by lots of noise (firecrackers), color (lion and dragon dances), gift-giving, and traditional feasting. It lasts about two weeks and culminates in parades and visits to family and friends.
Top March Festivals Around the World
St. Patrick’s Day, throughout Ireland and New York City and Boston, Massachusetts . Ireland’s patron saint, who is said to have converted the island to Christianity, is honored by parades and freely flowing green beer. It falls annually on March 17.
Top April Festivals Around the World
Semana Santa and Feria de Sevilla, Seville, Spain . Seville’s Semana Santa – or Holy Week leading up to Easter – is marked by processions of huge religious floats carried by bearers and followed by hundreds of penitents. Seville’s Fair, also known as the April Fair, follows two weeks later, and is a week-long party of all-night eating and drinking. Many local women and men wear traditional dress – think flamenco costumes – and ride around in decorated carriages. Dates vary along with Easter.
Top May Festivals Around the World
Cinco de Mayo (May 5) is holiday time in Mexico , but it’s actually celebrated more fervently in areas of the U.S. with large Mexican populations, especially California and the Southwest. Parades, mariachis, Mexican foods, and margaritas are a big part of the mix. It commemorates a victory in battle over the French in 1862.
Top June Festivals Around the World
White Nights Festival, St. Petersburg, Russia . Centered around evening ballet, opera, orchestral and popular music performances, the White Nights Festival actually extends from late May through mid-July, but includes all of June, when sunlight lasts well into the night. Carnivals and costume parties round out the festivities.
Top July Festivals Around the World
Fiesta de San Fermin (“Running of the Bulls”), Pamplona, Spain. Made famous by Ernest Hemingway in The Sun Also Rises , San Fermin draws up to a million visitors per year Attendance is exciting but dangerous if you’re actually running with the bulls and not just spectating; one or more people get gored almost every year. The bulls run daily from July 7-14 each year.
Montreal Jazz Festival, Montreal, Canada . The world’s largest jazz festival attracts some of the biggest names in music to this ten-day event, which draws two million visitors and 3,000 musicians for 1,000 shows, both indoor and outdoor, many of them free. The festival typically starts in late June and runs through the first week of July.
Boryeong Mud Festival, Boryeong, South Korea . Situated each summer in the little beach town of Boryeong south of Seoul, this nine-day festival is all about the mud: mud sliding, mud games, mud massages, mud swimming, mud bathing. It’s South Korea’s most popular festival for international visitors; dates vary.
Top August Festivals Around the World
Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Scotland . The world’s largest arts festival, the Fringe Festival takes place over three weeks in some 300 venues around Edinburgh – currently more than 50,000 performances of more than 3,200 shows per year. Drama, comedy, dance, music – if it’s the arts, it’s here.
Palio di Siena, Siena, Italy . The Palio is one of the world’s most historic and colorful horse races, with costumed bareback riders representing ten different areas of the city competing in the Piazza del Campo, Siena’s beautiful central square. With origins dating back to the 6 th century, it now takes place on August 16 and July 2 each year. Parades and other festivities extend over four days, culminating in the race itself.
Top September Festivals Around the World
Oktoberfest, Munich and other cities in Bavaria, Germany. It may seem strange that Oktoberfest begins in September, but it’s too much fun to wait—and the weather’s better. Mostly it’s about drinking beer, singing, eating sausages and general merrymaking in big groups seated in roomy tents or beer halls. This goes on from mid-September to early October, and has for more than 180 years.
Top October Festivals Around the World
Diwali, throughout India and various other countries with large Indian populations . Diwali is an ancient five-day Hindu celebration marked by gift-giving, candle lighting, and – most visible and audible to visitors – firecrackers. While dates can change each year, October is the most typical time.
Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, Albuquerque, New Mexico . The world’s largest hot air ballooning festival gets ramped up at dawn for five mornings (out of nine days) in early October. It’s also said to be the world’s most photographed special event, as hundreds of colorful balloons float over the high desert framed by the Sandia Mountains.
Top November Festivals Around the World
Day of the Dead (Dia de las Muertos ), throughout Mexico and other regions with large Mexican populations . The Day of the Dead – marked each year from October 31 to November 2 – is much less morbid than it sounds. Yes, there are visits to cemeteries to honor dead ancestors and lots of skull masks and skeleton costumes, but they are incorporated into parades and other festivities. Oaxaca has some of the best.
Pushkar Camel Fair, Pushkar, India . Even if you’re not in the market for a camel, the six-day Pushkar Camel Fair is one of India’s most colorful spectacles – which is saying a lot. Along with some 11,000 camels and horses for sale, traders and vendors come from all over Rajasthan, among the hundreds of thousands of participants and spectators.
Top December Festivals Around the World
Whirling Dervish Festival, Konya, Anatolia, Turkey . For a week in mid-December (December 10 to 17), some devout adherents of Sufi Islam -- known as whirling dervishes -- perform rhythmic, twirling dances that are meant to transport them into mystical unions with God. In their white outfits with flowing skirts, they are mesmerizing to watch. The dances commemorate a 13 th century Sufi mystic.

Want to start planning for the year ahead? Here are more than 20 reasons to consider a once-in-a-lifetime trip in 2023.
WorldPride crosses the equator
Since its inaugural event in Rome more than two decades ago, this semiannual global celebration of LGBTIQ+ pride has never been held in the Southern Hemisphere – until 2023 , when it will touch down in Sydney for 17 days of parades, parties, exhibits, immersive art installations, sporting events and more.
Key dates: Though the extravaganza runs from February 17 to March 5, things really kick off with an opening concert on February 24 starring Kylie Minogue – “not only a beloved musician and rainbow icon, but the highest selling Australian-born solo artist of all time,” per Sydney WorldPride CEO Kate Wickett. The Bondi Beach Party on March 4 is another hot ticket, with Nicole Scherzinger set to headline.

Dominica parties hard
One of Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel picks for 2023 , the Caribbean island of Dominica has a big year ahead. Its three main festivals are back in business: following successful runs in 2022, Jazz N’ Creole and Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival are returning, and Mas Domnik, aka “The Real Mas,” is back for Carnival for the first time since the pandemic.
Key dates: Mas Domnik , February 20 to 21; Jazz ‘N Creole , April 30; World Creole Music Festival , October 27 to 29.
Latin American and Caribbean Carnivals for every traveler
Burning Man explores its animal instincts
Welcoming 75,069 participants at its peak in 2022, Nevada’s artsy, week-long Black Rock Desert gathering returns in 2023 with the theme Animalia .
“This year’s Burning Man theme will celebrate the animal world and our place in it – animals real and imagined, mythic and remembered – and explore the curious mental constructs that allow us to believe that imagined animals are real, real animals are imagined, and that somehow, despite all evidence to the contrary, mankind is somehow not part of the animal kingdom,” writes Stuart Mangrum for the blog Burning Man Journal.
Key dates: The event is scheduled for August 27 to September 4. Ticket on-sale dates have yet to be announced for 2023, but early passes have previously gone on sale in February, the main sale in late March and last-minute tickets at the beginning of August. Prior registration is required for all options.
Sporting and cultural events
Super bowl lvii.
At this point in the NFL season, the teams battling it out for Super Bowl supremacy are still to be determined – but we do know Rihanna is providing the halftime entertainment. If that’s enough to pique your interest (and how could it not be?>), tickets are still available (on the resale market, for big spenders only). And there’s plenty to do in the Phoenix metro area before and after the big game, which is taking place at State Farm Stadium Glendale, home to the Arizona Cardinals .
Key date: Super Bowl LVII will take place on Sunday, February 12.
2023 FIA Formula One World Championship
Engines will be revving in Bahrain come early March, with three days of testing leading up to the first race of the F1 season at the track in Sakhir .
Key dates: Testing begins March 3, then the 2023 season kicks off with the Bahrain Grand Prix on March 5.
Where and how to watch sport like a local
Sakura season
Japan has finally reopened to individual travelers, so if catching the cherry blossoms at their peak has long been on your list, now’s a great time to go. While you should check the forecast before committing to a particular region (the trees are in full bloom at staggered times across the country), Fukuoka is a safe bet for hanami (cherry-blossom viewing) in March. The biggest city on the southern island of Kyūshū , this Best in Travel pick offers fantastic food and a beautiful bounty of flowering trees.
Key dates: Because it’s a natural phenomenon, there’s no set schedule here. In 2022, the bloom began in mid-March and peaked a couple weeks later, per Kyuhoshi.com – but you’ll want to keep an eye on the forecast as the season draws closer before making any nonrefundable plans.
Eurovision Song Contest
Typically the winning country hosts the Eurovision finals the following year, but when Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra took home the coveted glass microphone in 2022, plans had to change. A twin city of Odesa , Liverpool was chosen from a shortlist of seven cities to host on behalf of the besieged Eastern European nation in 2023.
Key dates: The Eurovision semifinals are slated for May 9 and 11; the final showdown follows on May 13.

Coronation of Charles and Camilla
This spring, King Charles III and the Queen Consort Camilla will be crowned at Westminster Abbey , continuing 900 years of tradition. Unless you’re an A-lister, the ceremony isn’t open to the public, though traditionally there’s been a procession through the streets of London afterward. Reports indicate that given the current economic climate this will likely be a more modest affair than Elizabeth II’s back in ’53. Still, expect rates on accommodations to soar and availability to be minimal around coronation weekend.
Key dates: The coronation is scheduled for May 6.

FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023
If it felt weird to watch the World Cup ahead of the winter holidays rather than over the summer, not to worry – the international soccer competition returns to its usual season in 2023, when women’s teams from 32 countries take the pitch in Australia and New Zealand .
Key dates: The group stage begins July 20, and the round of 16 starts August 5. The quarterfinals take place on August 11 and 12 and the semis on August 15 and 16. The third-place game will be held on August 19 and the final on August 20.
Rugby World Cup 2023
South Africa will defend its title, Portugal will play its first match on this stage in 16 years and Chile will join the fray for the first time ever when the Rugby World Cup comes to France . The pool matches will be played at stadiums across the country, from Paris to Marseille and Lyon to Lille – on the off chance you need an excuse for a road trip .
Key dates: The opening match kicks off September 8, the quarterfinals are October 14 and 15 and the semis are October 20 and 21. The bronze final is October 27, and the final is October 28.
Museum openings
International African American Museum
More than 20 years in the making, the International African American Museum opens in 2023 in Charleston , South Carolina .
Covering almost 150,000 sq ft of exhibition, learning and interpretive space on the site of a notorious former slave-trading port, the Henry Cobb–designed IAAM has nine galleries with exhibitions delving into the horrors of slavery and the African diaspora’s contributions to US history, among other themes. There’s also a memorial garden, an infinity reflection pool and a Center for Family History that will serve as a much-needed resource for African American genealogy.
"The International African American Museum’s work meets at the intersection of local, national and international stories that comprise a holistic view of the African American journey," chief learning and engagement officer Malika Pryor-Martin tells Lonely Planet. "[It's] not a monument to the carnage and injustice that was the slave trade. It is a testament to the fundamentally human experience of African American people who navigated great pain and joy: a people who survived and triumphed and are here now, telling their own story."
Key dates: The IAAM was scheduled to open in late January, but it's since been delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. It's still slated for 2023, though, so keep an eye on the official site and socials for updates.
Grand Egyptian Museum
After years of delays (both COVID-related and not) Giza’s long-awaited Grand Egyptian Museum finally looks set to open. The showstopping US$1.1 billion, 484,000-sq-ft facility has “jutting, prowlike lines [that] resemble an enormous ship run aground in the desert,” National Geographic reported in October, housing 12 exhibition halls and 100,000 artifacts, including more than 5000 burial treasures from the tomb of Tutankhamun – on display together here for the first time ever.
Key dates: Doors should be opening any day now. As of mid-December, the GEM had hosted a limited number of private events and group visits, with a trial phase for public visits due to be announced “soon,” per the museum’s Instagram .

Robot Science Museum
Back in 2019, Istanbul- and Seoul-based Melike Altınışık Architects won a design competition for a new Seoul museum dedicated to robotics – to be built by them, too. The RSM was slated to open in late 2022 in Chang-dong’s “New Economic Center,” and while updates haven’t been forthcoming, we’re hopeful this is the year.
Key dates: TBA.

Istanbul Modern
After four years at its temporary home in Beyoğlu , Turkey’s first museum of contemporary art is set to reopen at its original location in Karaköy , in stunning new digs designed by architectural maestro Renzo Piano. The five-floor, 15,000-sq-m (161,459-sq-ft) space will include an outdoor cafe and sculpture garden, a below-ground cinema and a rooftop deck – not to mention permanent and temporary galleries boasting 3300 sq m (35,521 sq ft) of exhibition space.
Key dates: Piano's first project in Turkey will be unveiled for visitors on May 4.
14 must-do things on your trip to Istanbul
Catch the Yosemite firefall
Between mid- and late February, when the conditions are just right, Yosemite National Park ’s Horsetail Fall glows electric-orange at sunset, giving the illusion of a plummeting flume of fire. In recent years, it’s become a can’t-miss event . (Blame social media.)
Key dates: Though it’s impossible to predict the exact dates the phenomenon will occur, it almost always happens in February. If your schedule’s flexible, check it out during the week; you’ll need a reservation on the weekends of February 10 to 12, February 17 to 19 and February 24 to 26.
See the northern lights
Though the next solar maximum isn’t expected until 2025, the sun’s activity ramps up as the maximum grows closer, making 2023 as good a time as any to go looking for the aurora borealis. Head north : you’ll have the best odds in Iceland , Norway and Greenland , as well as towns like Fairbanks , Alaska , and Churchill , Canada .
Key dates: The best time to see the northern lights varies by location, however the northern hemisphere's winter is the ideal time for a visit. Here's what you need to know about planning a trip to see the northern lights in Europe .
Make a reservation at a US national park
Many of the USA ’s national parks had timed-entry requirements during and in the aftermath of the pandemic, the majority of which have begun to ease. Yosemite announced in September that it was rolling back the reservation system for guests in summer 2023, while other parks still require permits year-round for certain activities, including viewing the sunrise at Haleakalā National Park and climbing Angels Landing at Zion National Park .
Key dates: Currently, most national parks have yet to announce whether or not reservations will be required during peak season (usually mid-May to mid-September) – so one park in particular is on your bucket list, keep checking for news. Of course, permits are still required to camp in the national parks, with most reservations opening up a few months in advance; specifics vary from park to park .
Hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu
One of Peru’s most iconic treks, the 24-mile (39km) Inca Trail reopened to hikers in 2022. At first it wasn’t as busy as it had been before the pandemic , but things have since picked up.
Only 500 people are allowed on the Inca Trail per day, and only 4000 or so can enter Machu Picchu , so get your trip on the books as soon as possible to get your first choice of dates (and to have time to train for the challenging climb).
Key dates: High season is between June and September , so book well in advance if you’re considering a trip then. Be sure to pick a reputable operator, as there were reports of overbooking last summer.
How hiking the Inca Trail with my mom revamped our entire relationship
Schedule a safari
Whether your dream trip has you following the Great Migration in Kenya or Botswana , Zambia or Namibia , there’s a safari experience that’s right for you. Deciding on a destination is half the battle; once you’ve worked that out, it’ll be much easier to determine the best time to go.
Key dates: In general, aim to book your safari between June and September, but look into the specifics before booking any nonrefundable fares. Remember that some countries have stellar wildlife watching year-round (or at least as late as October and November).
Take the wheel on Going-to-the-Sun Road
You’ll be limited to 40mph at lower elevations and 25mph at alpine heights, but no matter – the thrill of driving Glacier National Park ’s Going-to-the-Sun Rd doesn’t involve high speeds. It’s all about the scenery: winding through 50 miles of natural splendor, this is one of the most spectacular stretches of pavement in the country .
Vehicle reservations were required between late May and mid-September in 2022, but the situation is still TBD for 2023, so keep an eye on the park's official site for news and updates.
Key dates: While the low-elevation sections of the road remain open year-round, the more treacherous parts remain closed until the weather cooperates. Usually it’s fully open by early July, though in 2022 late winter weather pushed things back to July 13.
Two incredible itineraries to explore Montana's Glacier National Park
Watch the solar eclipse
Don’t look directly into the sun if you’re out and about in the Western Hemisphere this fall, when an annular solar eclipse is set to leave parts of North, Central and South America in shadow.
These are 5 of the world's best places for stargazing
According to NASA, the eclipse “will begin in the United States, traveling from the coast of Oregon to the Texas Gulf Coast. Weather permitting, the annular eclipse will be visible in Oregon, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, and Texas, as well as some parts of California, Idaho, Colorado, and Arizona. [It] will continue on to Central America, passing over Mexico, Belize, Honduras, and Panama. In South America, the eclipse will travel through Colombia before ending off the coast of Natal, Brazil, in the Atlantic Ocean.”
Key date: October 14

Charlize Theron Kicks Off 'Spooky Season' with Her 2 Daughters on a Trip to Disneyland
The Oscar winner posed at the theme park with her kids Jackson and August during the 'Cars' "Haul-O-Ween" event
Charlize Theron/Instagram
Charlize Theron is kicking off the Halloween season in the Happiest Place on Earth!
"It’s not officially spooky season until we hit @disneyland 👻," the Oscar winner wrote alongside an Instagram gallery of photos from her family trip to the theme park on Sept. 19.
Theron, 49, and her two daughters, Jackson, 11, and August , 7, took in the "Haul-o-ween" celebration at Cars Land in Disney's California Adventure park. She posed with a statue of Radiator Springs' founder Stanley, took in the seasonal decorations and scoped out some cake pops with Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear from Toy Story 3.
A final shot in the post shows her embracing her daughters as they all take in the scene.

Disneyland is a frequent destination for Theron and her daughters. The Atomic Blonde actress shared pictures of the family at the theme park in March. "Spring break mode activated" she captioned an Instagram post, which included images in front of a mural and enjoying the rides.
In April 2023, Theron joked she was "leader of the pack" in another Instagram update during a Disneyland visit with her daughters and loved-ones.
Earlier this year, Theron took August on a rare public outing and sat in the front row at a Dior Pre-Fall Show . The April 2024 event took place in Brooklyn. Jackson wasn't at the fashion show but she did come along for the New York trip .
"We came, we saw, we did it all. NYC you were a treat! ❤️" Theron captioned her post, which included a visit to Broadway, posing by the Statue of Liberty, and a visit to the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
The trio also enjoyed a massive ice cream sundae and made a stop at the American Museum of Natural History to admire the bears exhibit.
Theron's motherhood journey began in 2012 when she adopted Jackson. Three years later, the Mad Max: Fury Road actress expanded her family again, adopting her younger daughter August in 2015.

More people are visiting Kansas City than ever. City leaders hope they can sustain the momentum
Major events and superstar visitors made Kansas City a more popular travel destination in 2023. The city is hoping to harness that excitement and bring more tourists and residents to the area.
Kansas City welcomed a record number of visitors last year, who brought with them a record amount of spending in the region. According to VisitKC , more than 28 million people came to the city in 2023, a nearly 5% increase from 2022. Those visitors spent about $4 billion during their trips.
Major events and famous visitors may have driven tourism to the city, as did conferences and business travelers. The city’s next focus is retaining the record number of tourists — and encouraging them to live here.
This year, Kansas City was ranked by both the New York Times and Travel Leisure as a top global travel destination. Both publications noted the Current’s new CPKC stadium — the first in the world built specifically for women’s pro sports. The Times lauded the newly opened Rabbit hOle museum and KC Wheel as must-do entertainment options.
The city’s been getting recognition for its food scene, too.
Yoli Tortilleria won a James Beard Award for "Outstanding Bakery" in 2023 — the first tortilla bakery nominated for any award. Kitty’s Cafe and Baba’s Pantry were listed as some of America’s best restaurants by the New York Times and Bon Appetit, respectively. And this year, seven Kansas City area restaurants and bars were James Beard Award semifinalists .
Huge musical tours like Beyoncé and Taylor Swift brought tens of thousands of visitors to town. Mayor Quinton Lucas believes those stadium shows — plus the Chiefs’ Super Bowl run, drew millions of eyes to Kansas City. He says the city is selling a brand that encourages people to explore other places after their visits for big ticket items.
“We're not just sharing that Arrowhead Stadium is cool, which it is, but it's also saying you can stay around in Kansas City and throughout the region and go to The Rabbit hOle or one of our local breweries and walk around the crossroads,” Lucas said. “Those are the things that I think are helping us make a difference long term in Kansas City.”
Mackenzie Wolters, a spokesperson for VisitKC, said the agency can’t pinpoint exactly why every person came to the city. But major headlines like Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship , the Chiefs’ Super Bowl wins and the Current’s CPKC stadium opening certainly raised the city’s profile.
“I think those are things that are attracting the attention, maybe getting people thinking and talking about Kansas City,” Wolters said. “Then as they dive in deeper, they start to realize that there's a lot more going on here. There's a whole extra layer of culture of Midwest hospitality that you experience when you're here in Kansas City. Those are things that you just can't find in other parts of the country.”
Of the 28 million visitors, about 13 million stayed overnight. That resulted in nearly $3 billion in spending, according to VisitKC.
Kansas City Airport’s new terminal, which began welcoming travelers in February of last year, was recently ranked third among large airports in customer satisfaction, according to J.D. Power . This summer, the airport broke its all-time passenger record two months in a row.
It’s not just leisure travel that’s driving the city’s tourism boom. More than 100,000 people came to Kansas City for businesses and about 52,000 came for a combination of business and leisure. Business travel is also year-round in the area, according to Wolters, which helps boost the city’s hospitality industry during the offseason.
The region’s biggest markets are nearby cities like Chicago, Denver, Dallas, St. Louis and Memphis — VisitKC spends the most advertising in the first three areas. But the agency has been making a big effort to court international travelers through advertising in the United Kingdom and Germany.
In 2023, VisitKC had an advertising budget of about $1.9 million, which included extra funds for the Super Bowl and 2023 NFL Draft.
Those efforts are paying off. International visitors to Kansas City spent nearly $40 million more in 2023 than they did the year before. Hundreds of thousands of fans are expected to arrive in Kansas City for the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
Wolters said some visitors are already coming to the area because of the event. She expects people to visit Kansas City long after the World Cup once they see all that the region has to offer.
To make sure Kansas City captures the moment and ensure residents and newcomers who move to the area see a lasting benefit, Lucas said the City Council is working to increase affordable housing, foster small businesses, and expand public transportation and public safety.
City officials are also trying to address wave of property and violent crime in multiple communities across the city — including its tourism destinations. The city has seen a more than 6% growth in the population in the past few years.
“If a city is smart, it's actually planning for what happens after the World Cup,” Lucas said.
Lucas hopes the event will be the city’s major introduction on the world stage. He wants to elevate the city’s reputation, like Atlanta after the 1996 Olympics, and break more tourism records.
“Welcome to Kansas City,” Lucas said. “Stick around, invest, come back, know this is one incredibly cool city that we want you to never forget about.”
Celebrities, tears, guns: 3 takeaways from Oprah, Harris Michigan livestream
Vice President Kamala Harris shared the stage with TV host Oprah Winfrey on Thursday night for a livestreamed campaign event featuring a live audience and virtual attendees from a Farmington Hills studio where the pair discussed a range of issues from the cost of living to abortion rights with the Nov. 5 election around the corner.
Harris faces former President Donald Trump in a tight race for the White House, and her appearance in Michigan comes after her Republican opponent visited the battleground state earlier in the week. Trump's campaign mocked Harris' event before it began, saying she doesn't have a robust economic agenda. "Well, we're sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you can't lower inflation by hiding goodie bags under chairs," said Team Trump Michigan Communications Director Victoria LaCivita in a statement Thursday morning.
Winfrey first endorsed a presidential candidate in 2008 when she backed Barack Obama in the Democratic primary, according to multiple media reports at the time. She went on to back Hillary Clinton in 2016 and gave a last-minute boost in the final days of President Joe Biden's 2020 campaign.
At the Democratic National Convention in Chicago last month, Winfrey again announced her support for the Democratic candidate. And in Michigan, she put her full support behind Harris, with the pair sitting across from one another in beige accent chairs for more than an hour.
An unusual format
In the post-COVID-19 era of hybrid work that accommodates those in the office and those working from home, it's perhaps no surprise that politicians hitting the campaign trail would embrace the virtual format as Harris did Thursday night. About 400 of her supporters joined in person at a Farmington Hills studio while thousands, including celebrities, attended remotely, according to Winfrey.
While her supporters' massive Zoom calls have helped buoy Harris' campaign, the livestreamed campaign event Thursday seemed to offer further evidence the 2024 campaign cycle has taken the next step of campaigning in an internet era that seems to reward social media influencers and political organizers skilled at online organizing.
Those in person in the studio caught a glimpse of reality behind the scenes of viral moments. Photographers for national news outlets jockeyed for space with the film crew for the best shots. "Can I get another water for OW?" one crew member instructed on set. At the end of the show, Winfrey thanked everyone in the studio and said they were all fantastic.
Tearful stories
During the program, Winfrey invited a few individuals to share their personal stories about abortion bans in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and school shootings.
Amber Nicole Thurman was a Georgia woman who died after delayed abortion care in a state with a ban on the books, according to a ProPublica investigation. Winfrey introduced Thurman's mother, Shanette, on Thursday and invited her to speak publicly for the first time about her daughter's story.
"Initially, I did not want the public to know my pain. I wanted to go through in silence. But I realized that it was selfish. I want y'all to know Amber was not a statistic. She was loved by a family — a strong family — and we would have done whatever to get my baby — our baby — the help that she needed," Shanette said, her eyes wet and holding a tissue in her right hand. "You're looking at a mother that is broken."
Winfrey later turned to 15-year-old Natalie Griffith — an Apalachee High School student who was shot during a shooting on campus earlier this month. When Winfrey asked her where Griffith shot, she pointed to the bandages covering her shoulder and wrist. Through tears, her mother Marilda recalled receiving a call at work from a friend notifying her of the shooting. "My heart just dropped," she said, her voice wavering. No parent should have to experience what she did, Marilda said.

Harris makes new comments on gun ownership
As Harris leaned into her support for abortion rights and gun safety measures she also argued that Americans don't have to make hard choices on those issues when it comes to their religious beliefs in the case of abortion or abandon their support for the 2nd Amendment.
On abortion, Harris said that "one does not have to abandon their faith or deeply held beliefs to agree the government" should not be telling women what to do with their bodies. She made a similar argument on guns.
"Look, I think for far too long on the issue of gun violence some people have been pushing a really false choice to suggest you're either in favor of the Second Amendment or you want to take everyone's guns away," she said. "I'm in favor of the Second Amendment, and I'm in favor of assault weapons bans, universal background checks and red flag laws."
Harris talked about being a gun owner herself. "If somebody breaks into my house, they're getting shot," she said. "I probably should not have said that. My staff will deal with that later," Harris laughed.

A charter bus rental—ideal for any trip or occasion.
When you're planning a group outing, there are lots of details to handle. Perhaps the most important, though, is how you'll get there and back. When you have problems with your transportation, it can leave a cloud on the entire trip. Make it easy and have a great trip with a charter bus rental from US Coachways.
At US Coachways, we help groups and group leaders secure luxury coaches for any type of trip or event, including:
- Day trips — such as games, rallies, festivals, shopping junkets, casino adventures, museums and historical attractions, amusement parks, concerts and Broadway shows
- Parties — Weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, graduations, engagements
- Church functions — including mission trips, community outreach, choir tours and youth group outings
- Conventions — conferences, seminars, training, team-building exercises and other company/corporate events
- Family reunions — destination trips, picnics, day and overnight trips
- School trips — including athletic competition, prom and graduation after-parties, club and class outings, and arts and cultural affairs
- Sporting events — from professional and college games to motor car races
Because of our vast network of charter bus service providers, we have the capability to handle short notice bookings with little difficulty. We have extensive experience providing comprehensive shuttle services for events, including airport transportation . We have also provided a wide range of ground transportation services to municipal, state and federal governments and their agencies.
Why You Want a Charter Bus for Your Group Trip
There are many great reasons to choose a charter bus for any type of group travel:
- It's safe and secure— You'll have a professional driver at the wheel and there's limited access to the bus.
- You'll have choices— You won't have to choose from a handful of prepackaged itineraries. You can go where you want to go when you want to go.
- You can depend on a charter bus— Cancellations and delays are virtually unheard of with a charter bus.
- You'll ride in comfort— The seats are big, with lots of leg room, and there's no middle seat. The aisles are wide and you can always get up and move around.
- Everyone gets to enjoy the trip— With most forms of group travel, someone has to be in charge, keeping an eye on the GPS, watching the clock, looking for parking and making certain everyone arrives at your meeting place. With a charter bus, your driver will handle all the details.
- You won't have the hassles that come with other types of travel— Because you'll ride on the same coach at all times and your luggage will go with you, you won't have concerns about missed connections or lost bags. There's no TSA security checkpoint, so you won't have to worry about what you bring, take your shoes off or empty your pockets. There's no such thing as "bus mode" for your phone, either. You can stay connected at all times.
- Your bus can serve many purposes— It's not just a way to get you there and back. It can be a meeting room, letting you prep employees, give last minute instructions or create opportunities for group fun. It can also be a quiet place for some down time during a busy trip.
- You'll have access to the HOV (high occupancy vehicle) lanes— You'll have less risk of getting stuck in traffic.
- It's a cost-effective way to travel— On a charter bus, you'll share many of the costs of the trip with fellow passengers.
- It's environmentally friendly— You'll put fewer vehicles on the road when you travel together on a charter bus. That lowers your carbon footprint.
At US Coachways, we bring more than 30 years of experience to charter bus rental customers across the country. Go to our online Cost Calculator to get a free quote on the cost of a charter bus rental. Call us at 1-855-287-2427 to speak with an experienced customer service agent.
Frequently Asked Questions about Charter Bus Rentals
- How will I know that I have the right coach for my group?
- At US Coachways, we understand that every group has different needs. We'll look at the details of your trip—how many people are traveling, how long you'll be on the road, what you'll be bringing or taking back, and any special needs of your passengers. Then we'll work with our vast national network of service providers to find the bus that best meets your needs. If you're traveling with a small-to-midsized group, the mini-bus is a great option, with seating for 24 to 35 guests and plenty of space for luggage and personal items. For larger groups, the full-sized bus is optimal, holding up to 57 passengers comfortably. Multiple bus rentals are always an option.
- How much will it cost to rent a charter bus?
- The total expense to rent a charter bus varies, based on a number of factors:
- How long you'll be gone—If you expect to go and come back on the same day, you'll either be charged by the mile or by the hour (expect a minimum charge). If you're staying overnight, you'll customarily pay by the day.
- How many people are going—That determines the size of your coach. As a general rule, the larger the bus, the greater the cost.
- When and where you'll be renting the bus—The cost of a charter bus rental can fluctuate seasonally. For example, there's a greater demand for charter bus rentals in Florida in January than in July, so you can expect to pay more for a midwinter trip. In addition, it's usually a little bit more expensive to rent a bus in a metropolitan area than the suburbs or a rural location.
- The day of the week—Because of demand, it's generally more expensive to rent a charter bus on Friday, Saturday or Sunday than other days.
- The amenities you'll need—Most modern charter buses have Wifi, DVD players, stereos, PA systems and charging stations (for your devices) as standard features. If you need other conveniences, such as on-board bathrooms, you will probably pay more.
- Any additional fees incurred—You will be responsible for all tolls, parking fees, permits and other costs of travel. In addition, if you stay overnight anywhere, you will typically be expected to pay for accommodations for your driver.
- For a free estimate of the cost of a charter bus rental, go to our online Cost Calculator.
- What is your policy with respect to the consumption of alcohol on the bus?
- US Coachways allows the consumption of alcoholic beverages, provided you notify us of that intent in advance. Your driver will always have the discretion to terminate or suspend alcohol consumption. In addition, all passengers on the bus must be of legal drinking age.
- Will you make multiple stops on the same trip?
- Absolutely. That's one of the most attractive features of a charter bus rental. You tell us when you want to go, where you want to stop, how long you want to be there and when you want to return. In many instances, we can even make additional unscheduled stops without a problem.
- What are the payment options?
- US Coachways accepts a number of forms of payment, including credit cards, check, cash and purchase orders.
- How much luggage can we bring?
- That varies, based on the size of the bus and the number of people traveling. Your booking agent can help you determine how much each passenger can bring and whether you need a bigger bus.
The Smart Decision—Make Your Reservation with US Coachways
When you choose US Coachways as your charter bus rental provider, you'll have:

How FAM trips and event strategy can elevate your brand
We’re all guilty of it. One minute you’re aimlessly scrolling through your Instagram feed, killing time before your kid’s soccer practice wraps up or your next appointment starts, when suddenly something catches your eye. Maybe it’s a post of someone using a power drill which reminds you that you need to get going on that bathroom reno, new running shoes that you’re positive will finally give you the motivation you need to start running twice a week, or a picture of that resort in Baja you’ve been dying to stay at, like, forever. Whatever it is, it’s enough to prompt you to click the ‘buy’ button–and that’s exactly why influencer marketing and media coverage is so effective.
Whether your company is launching a new product or looking to showcase a destination, proven ways to generate excitement and awareness are by hosting a FAM trip or planning a brand activation.
What is a FAM trip?
Traditionally, a familiarization trip–commonly called a FAM trip or FAM–is when a destination or tourism brand hosts media, travel agents or suppliers for an experience, This could be something as simple as an afternoon hike highlighting offerings from a few providers capped off with a farm-to-table dinner, to a weeklong, all-expenses paid trip to a luxury resort in Thailand. The idea is that the resulting media coverage leads to more bookings, while agents on the supplier side are more knowledgeable about the products they’re pushing which can increase sales.
“You don’t know what you don’t know, and attending FAM trips is a quick and easy way to get insider access to a destination,” explains travel writer Jody Robbins , who goes on hosted trips multiple times a year to research upcoming articles. “A good FAM trip will not only familiarize you with the destination, but will uncover a new perspective.”
Now that bloggers and influencers have developed so much klout and loyal audiences, FAMs are expanding to include this type of new media and trips are no longer just tourism focused. Forward-thinking companies are putting together customized brand activations which give influencers an opportunity to connect with and use their products, creating content they can then share organically with their followers.
“In the past, most companies would launch new products at trade shows and through press releases, which is somewhat effective but not very exciting,” says Aaron Sales, co-founder of Global Sessions which has worked with brands like Nike to support their brand influencer programs. “Today, consumers and media desire authentic experiences that allow them to fully understand and appreciate the product. When you feel a product in your own hands and can have a direct conversation with the designer or someone knowledgeable and passionate about the product, you immediately become an ambassador. It’s one thing to read a one-pager on the latest and greatest, but it’s completely different when you get to cast the rod from shore and hook into a 12 pound trout with the owner of the company.”
Nike brought in Global Sessions to develop the event strategy for a product launch , where they presented new apparel to a group of fashion bloggers, photographers and media from high-profile outlets like Vogue , HYPEBEAST and Gear Patrol. Global Sessions sourced a venue to put Nike’s ACG React Terra Gobe shoe to the test and provide an incredible backdrop to create content, as well as arrange transportation, meals, lodging and experiences.
How to make a familiarization trip successful
Many companies that host FAM trips or influencer marketing events bring in a third-party agency to assist with things like the run of show and venue finding services, and benefit from their insider knowledge.
“Logistics and timing are hugely important factors in running a successful FAM tour,” says Kieron Weidner from First Nature Tours , which is a longtime partner of Global Sessions. His company works with destination marketing organizations (DMOs) like Travel Oregon and Brand USA by providing professional guides, luxury transportation and expert insight into each area.
“Things often take longer than anticipated, and it’s important to know the destinations and attractions well enough to plan accordingly. Also, having relationships in place with key partners can assist in hosting the group, and providing the kind of experience that will really sell the participants on the destination.”
On the media side, journalists appreciate a bit of flexibility and free time built into schedules to give them time to properly explore based on their interests.
“One of the best FAM trips I was on offered two different half-day blocks we could choose from,” Robbins recalls. “One block was culinary, the other family travel, another outdoor adventure, etcetera. Everyone split into different groups and got the [story] angles they needed.”
She adds that including a unique experience is also appreciated, as well as getting an opportunity to meet the locals.
“One example is when I did a UK FAM that took us into Oxfordshire and Highclere House, AKA Downton Abbey. Anyone can tour Highclere House, but this was memorable for a few reasons: it was timely because the movie was coming out in a few months, and it was bucket list-worthy. Sure, you can do it on your own, but that takes some effort and our FAM timed it just right with not only a tour and tea, but an evening performance where we could wander through the castle at will.
“Our FAM had organized a tea with Lady Carnarvon, the mistress of the house. Having unhurried time with her was not only invaluable for my story, but is something I’ll never forget.”
What to avoid when planning FAM tours
The most important thing to remember when planning a media visit or influencer marketing event is that one size does not fit all . Many organizers are guilty of cramming in too many different activities to try and showcase everything, which means participants barely have enough time to properly experience it, never mind actually create content. It’s almost always better to spend more time at fewer places.
“It’s important to balance the learning and site inspections with time to truly relax and enjoy the destination, and [travel advisors] won’t want to return with a group if they don’t enjoy their overall experience,” Weidner says.
He suggests setting accurate expectations for the participants well in advance, and always calling ahead to keep partners updated with arrival time and group size to ensure the experience moves smoothly, Most importantly, be informed.
“Know the answers to the questions that your participants need to know.”

How to Use Your Calendar for Travel
Thursday, August 10th, 2023
There are many benefits to traveling , such as:
- Travel may reduce heart disease risk, according to research .
- One of the most significant benefits of traveling is stress relief. Even a short vacation can help reduce stress, according to a study of 40 German middle managers published in July 2018 in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health .
- Regular travelers (defined as trips at least 75 miles from home) report being 7 percent happier than those who travel rarely or not at all, according to research on a Taiwanese population published in January 2021 in the journal Tourism Analysis .
- It may be helpful for you to travel if you’re feeling burned out. Social scientist Adam Galinsky has found that travel and creativity go hand-in-hand, according to his study at Columbia University .
- Traveling can naturally encourage more movement and physical activity if you spend most of the day at a desk.
The downside, however, is that traveling can be stressful and involve much work. Everything from flights to accommodations to activities and sightseeing needs to be planned. You can quickly become overwhelmed if you don’t have a sound system for keeping track of everything.
It’s here that your calendar comes in handy. How? When planning a trip, an organized calendar can save the day. You won’t forget anything, since you can keep track of everything in one place.
Let me show you how to use your calendar for travel in this blog post. You’ll learn how to create a travel calendar, add events, and keep an organized calendar.
Creating a Travel Calendar
Step 1: pick a calendar tool that works for you..
A travel calendar can be created with various tools. The most popular options are a physical planner, spreadsheet, or travel planning app .
- When choosing a physical planner, ensure it has enough space for all your travel details. Additionally, you’ll need to decide whether you want a daily planner or a weekly planner.
- Make a table in a spreadsheet listing the dates of your travel, flight information, accommodations, and activities you plan to do. Keeping track of your budget and expenses can also be done using a spreadsheet.
- Travel planning apps offer a wide range of features. The most popular apps are Google Trips, TripIt, and Kayak Trips. Your travel calendar can be created, flights and accommodations tracked, and activities in your destination found using these apps.
Step 2: Gather information about your trip.
After selecting your calendar tool, gather all the information about your trip. You must provide information regarding your flight, accommodation, and activities.
If you have received an email confirmation of your flight, you can find it on your airline’s website. Hotels or hostels should provide information about your accommodations. In addition, you can get activity information from friends, family, and travel websites.
Step 3: Add your travel information to your calendar.
Your calendar can be updated once you have all the travel information. Every activity should be listed with the date, time, and location. If you know the cost of the activity or the organizer’s contact information, you should also include it.
Step 4: Make notes.
Remember to note anything vital as you enter travel information into your calendar. You may want to find out about the weather forecast, your activities’ dress codes, or how to get around the area.
Step 5: Review your calendar.
After you have entered all your travel information into your calendar, review it. All information should be accurate and conflict-free. Additionally, you should ensure you have enough time to accomplish all your goals.
Step 6: Share your calendar.
When you travel with others, you can share your calendar . By doing this, everyone will stay on the same page and ensure everyone is always on the same page.
Adding Travel Events to Your Calendar
It is possible to add events to your calendar in various ways. Here are some options:
- Your calendar app will automatically display event details when you type them in.
- You can import events from other calendar apps or websites.
- Recurring events can include weekly business check-ins or family vacations.
The following is a general guide to adding travel events to your calendar:
- Organize your trip by creating a new calendar. By doing this, you will be able to separate your travel events from your personal and work events
- Put a descriptive name on your new calendar, such as “My Summer Vacation.”
- Add events to your calendar. In addition to the event’s date, time, place, and purpose, ensure you include all the details.
- You can add travel time to your events if you travel by plane, train, or bus. Making sure you arrive on time will help you avoid delays.
- When you add your events, you’ll be able to add the address and phone number of the hotel you’re staying at. Any time you need to contact the hotel, this will come in handy.
- You should also schedule meals, sightseeing, and other important events on your calendar.
Organizing your travel events begins when you add them all to your calendar. If you find it challenging to keep track of all your events, you can color-code them, create sub-calendars, or use other features.
You will be able to stay organized and make the most of your trip if you have all your travel events on your calendar.
Your travel calendar can be enhanced by adding these events:
- When entering event details, please be as detailed as possible. By following this routine, you’ll avoid confusion and ensure that nothing important is missed.
- Make sure your events have consistent naming conventions. You will be able to find events more easily this way.
- Ensure your events are color-coded. Using this method makes it easy to identify the type of event.
- Make use of a travel planning app. Organizing your trip and adding events to your calendar is made easy with many great travel planning apps.
With these tips, you can keep track of your next trip and add events to your travel calendar.
Here are some additional tips.
- A separate calendar can be created for each destination if you travel to multiple locations. Stay organized and ensure you don’t miss anything important by keeping track of your travel plans.
- To add travel time to your events, you can also use Google Maps. You can access Google Maps by clicking on the “Location” field when creating an event. You can enter the start and end locations in Google Maps. Your event will be updated with the estimated travel time calculated by Google Maps.
- Your calendar can be shared with a group if you’re traveling together. As a result, everyone will be on the same page and know where and when they need to be.
Keeping Your Travel Calendar Organized
Your calendar should be organized once all your events are added to it. By doing this, you’ll avoid last-minute surprises and stay on track.
For an organized travel calendar, follow these tips:
Choose a calendar app that works for you.
Many calendar apps are available, so find one that suits your needs and is easy to use. Google Calendar , Apple Calendar, and Outlook Calendar are some of the most popular calendar apps.
Plan ahead as early as possible.
It will be easier to organize your calendar if you begin planning your trip as soon as possible. You’ll have plenty of time to book flights, hotels, and activities and coordinate everything.
Put all the details of your travel on your calendar.
The dates you need to keep track of include your flights, hotel reservations, activities, transportation, and anything else that might be important. To stay on track, ensure your calendar has as much information as possible.
Make use of colors and labels.
In your calendar, colors and labels can make it easier to see what’s happening. Depending on the type of event, such as flights, hotels, and activities, you could use a different color.
Set reminders for important dates.
As a result, you won’t miss any important deadlines or events. If you want, you can set reminders for your flights, hotel check-in times, activity reservations, and any other important event.
Sync your calendar with your devices.
By doing this, you can access your calendar from anywhere. It is even possible to sync your calendar with your phone, tablet, laptop, and even your watch.
Back up your calendar regularly.
In the event of a computer crash or other disaster, you will be able to protect your travel information. An external hard drive or the cloud are good places to back up your calendar.
Maintaining an organized travel calendar and ensuring a smooth trip can be achieved by following these tips.
In addition to these tips, here are a few others that will help you stay organized on your trip:
- Plan your trip using a template or checklist . You’ll be less likely to forget anything if you do this.
- Bring a printed copy of your calendar with you. You’ll need this if you don’t have access to the internet.
- Don’t forget to bring a portable charger for your phone so that you are always able to access your calendar
- If you take screenshots, your hotel and flight confirmations can be stored on your phone.
- Ensure you have a backup plan in case your flight is canceled or delayed.
Staying organized and on track while traveling can be achieved with the help of your calendar. With the tips listed above, you can create a travel calendar to make your trip a breeze.

Things to do Restaurants, Food and Drink
Brewery rowe: stone brewing makes a 1,136-mile trip for its wet hop beer, also this week: modern times hit hard times, beer events and drink or dump beers of the week.
This is a relatively simple process if your brewery is in the nation’s major hop-growing states of Oregon, Washington and Idaho. But in San Diego County, where hop farms are few in number and tiny in size, this presents a problem.
Stone’s solution: Graham Gamache, the flying farmer of Toppenish, Wash. Gamache, 49, owns Cornerstone Ranches in Washington’s Yakima Valley.
On Sept. 1, he rose at 2 a.m., oversaw the harvesting of 365 lbs. of Centennial hops, stuffed them into sacks and loaded these into his Cessna 206.
He took off at 7:15 a.m., flying south for Chico. There, he took a bathroom break and checked the weather. By 10:45 a.m., he was back in the air. At 3 p.m., he touched down at San Diego International Airport, where he was met by Stone’s head brewer, Jeremy Moynier. By 3:45 p.m., Cornerstone’s hops were in a brew kettle at Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens – Liberty Station. They’d traveled 1,136 miles in less than 14 hours.
Why go to all this trouble?
“You get different flavors and an intense aroma from very fresh hops,” Moynier said. “It’s nice to bring that to San Diego in a unique way.”
Tap Room, Julian’s Nickel Beer and a few other local breweries are making wet hop beers this month. Because they are drawing on small harvests from local farms, these will be small batches of beer. Stone, in contrast, plans to make 30 kegs of fresh hop Ruination IPA. Look for it at Stone’slocations in late September and early October.
Modern Troubles
Modern Times once was among the nation’s largest and fastest-growing craft breweries. The COVID pandemic hit the Point Loma-based brewery hard — as it did many businesses — but its troubles went deeper.
Beset with massive debt, underperforming taprooms and an owner battling harassment allegations, Modern Times went into a tailspin before Maui Brewing acquired it in 2022. As Craft ‘Ohana, the two breweries maintain separate identities.
At least one of those identities is still troubled. As Brandon Hernández’s San Diego Beer News recently reported, Craft ‘Ohana is closing the original Point Loma location and shifting the brewing operation to Miramar. There, AleSmith is under contract to produce all Modern Times beers.
I’ve enjoyed Modern Times beers and admire AleSmith. But this is further evidence that San Diego County has been overserved with breweries. While our population equals that of Nevada, we boast triple the number of breweries.
Those boasts may ring hollow, however, if notable breweries continue to close, contract or sell out.

Information [ ]
Events are a type of disaster that could/couldn't damage players and/or could/couldn't damage a vehicle. Currently, there are 9 types of events in-game.
Speeding Vans [ ]
The Speeding Van event spawns a rusty Vantage with no doors or apparent driver. It appears a far distance down the road and rapidly accelerates toward the player. It deals 100 damage on direct contact. When the Van spawns, players can hear its loud engine noises for about three seconds before it arrives. It will continue flying down the road until disappearing out of view. Due to its ludicrous speed, the van will often take flight after bouncing off a rock or cactus.
The death message refers to the van as " a speeding truck ", which is clearly wrong.
How To Survive Speeding Van [ ]
To survive Speeding Van , get off the road as soon as you hear its engine. If driving a heavy car, it's possible to just ignore the van outright since it'll bounce off your vehicle.
Sandbugs [ ]
Sandbugs are an obstacle that can generate at random times. When players get too close to them, Sandbugs hit them with a splatter that blurs their sceen with dark green splashes. They do not damage players or vehicles, and will cause splatter effects regardless of if the player is driving or walking.
The obstacle appears as a brown circle with some green tubes on it. For some reason, it always floats a short distance above the ground.
Thunderstorm [ ]
A Thunderstorm is an event that causes heavy rain and intermittent thunder. When a Thunderstorm occurs, the environment will start changing into a rainy-bluish color to signify a thunderstorm, with some visible clouds forming above. A few seconds later, the wind will become audibly louder and lightning will strike. If lightning strikes a vehicle, it will be damaged similarly to being shot, and anything attached to the vehicle will fall off. If a vehicle's engine is active when struck by lightning, all gas in the tank will be destroyed . Lightning strikes also deal 100 damage in a small area of effect, which can kill players and enemies alike.
Lightning will never strike inside buildings/sheltered areas, but can hit just outside of them. The storm will clear quickly and the event ends after about 10 lightning strikes in total.
How To Survive a Thunderstorm [ ]
The lightning strikes in random locations within a small radius of each player. To avoid the lightning bolts, get inside a building with your car parked a safe distance away. If the building is large enough, move to the room furthest from your car to avoid it getting hit. Also stand a fair distance away from the walls of your chosen shelter, since a lightning strike can still kill you if it hits the other side of the wall.
Sandstorm [ ]
When a Sandstorm occurs, the atmosphere first becomes very foggy. After a few seconds, flying sand particles will appear and the wind will get louder. The Sandstorm does not damage Enemies , but does damage players gradually if without shelter. Vehicles will also be pushed a little by the Sandstorm's current. The wind will always blow from directly ahead on the road. After about 30 seconds, the wind will die down and the fog will clear, ending the event.
How To Survive a Sandstorm [ ]
To survive a Sandstorm , you must either take shelter in a building , remain in your vehicle, or have a moderately sized object above your head Ex: Bathroom Door. Remember to turn off your engine and lift the handbrake if you are taking shelter in your car, unless your vehicle can withstand the wind while driving. A sandstorm's total damage can be completely ignored with the extra health gamepass .
-Note that you can't survive it this way in vehicles such as the F1 Formula that do not have a roof.
Tornado [ ]
A Tornado is a large funnel-shaped cloud that forms randomly while traveling. If players get too close, the tornado will suck them up and their vehicle too, breaking it apart, and hurling its parts everywhere. This is non-fatal, but will often result in a loss as parts may be destroyed or scattered too far to retrieve. It can be identified without visual contact by the constant sound of strong wind and a slightly trembling screen.
The tornado always appears directly on the road a short distance in front of wherever the player currently is. It will move randomly within a small circle of its starting position, and disappear after about a minute.
- The F1 Formula, driving at full speed, can go through the tornado with no consequence.
- The Space Truck can do so too, except it can not get sucked into the tornado no matter what.
How To Survive a Tornado [ ]
To survive a Tornado , simply drive away from it, stop your car and wait for it to disappear, or drive offroad and around the tornado. It does not chase players, and its wind is weaker than expected.
The Wind event is simply a powerful gust of wind that blows from the left side of the road. Even with heavy cars, this will make driving more difficult. The wind will stop after about 30 seconds have passed.
Wind is harmless and cannot do any direct damage whatsoever. Simply stop driving or slow down to avoid crashing or flipping your car by mistake.
Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) [ ]
In the distance, a Flying Saucer with an active tractor beam can be seen flying through the sky. If driving, it is possible to catch up to it. The tractor beam can pull players and vehicles alike upward towards the UFO, which could flip the car. The beam also does damage to players caught within it.
This is currently the rarest event ingame.
Solar Eclipse [ ]
Solar Eclipse is a daytime-exclusive event where the moon will briefly pass between the Sun and the Earth. The player will be caught in the totality zone, and the world will suddenly become extremely dark. Looking at the sun during this event will rapidly damage the player and darken their screen temporarily. After a few seconds, the moon will move out of the way and the daytime cycle continues as normal.
How To Survive a Solar Eclipse [ ]
To survive a Solar Eclipse , simply don't look at the sun. If you still want to see it, you can safely view the sun through a window. (In real life, looking at a complete solar eclipse, as shown in the game, is safe. It is only unsafe when the moon has not completely covered the sun.)
Heat Wave [ ]
Heat Waves can only occur during the day. When a heatwave occurs, the ambient fog of the desert becomes a vibrant orange. Players will begin to visibly sweat, and the hunger drain rate is temporarily doubled for all players. Vision will also darken and pulse, and players will hear strange sound effects. There is no way to stop this effect until the event ends naturally after about 30 seconds.
How To Survive a Heat Wave [ ]
Despite the creepy effects, a heat wave has no notable impact on gameplay. Simply play as if nothing is happening, and find something to eat a little sooner.
Meteorites [ ]
During this event, rocks will fall from the sky and land a short distance ahead on the road. They will generally try to land in front of players. The rate meteorites land at starts slow, but quickly picks up. In total, about 15 meteorites will land. They will destroy vehicles' parts on impact and deal 100 damage to players in a small explosion.
How to Survive the Meteorites [ ]
The meteors will follow your movement, and are almost guaranteed to hit a slow vehicle. If you're currently driving fast (>120 MPH) then you can continue driving at high speeds safely. A surefire way to survive is to just stop the vehicle, get out, and run a short distance away from your car.
- Speeding Vans can occur at the same time as any other event. Other than this, only one event can happen at a time.
- Sandbugs aren't based on real life, its name sounds like an insert or a bug.

Harris Will Give Abortion Speech in Georgia After Deaths of Two Women
The vice president has said the stories of pregnant women who have been denied or have been unable to gain access to medical care show the consequences of former President Donald J. Trump’s actions.

- Sept. 18, 2024
Vice President Kamala Harris will give remarks in Atlanta on Friday focused on the stories of two Georgia mothers whose deaths she has argued show the consequences of the strict abortion bans passed by Republicans after Roe v. Wade was overturned.
The speech is part of an effort by the Harris campaign to push reproductive rights to the center of the presidential election, according to a person with knowledge of the event who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the plans.
The deaths, reported this week by ProPublica , occurred in the months after Georgia passed a law banning abortion at six weeks. Amber Thurman died of sepsis resulting from an incomplete medication abortion after waiting 20 hours in a suburban Atlanta hospital for medical care. A second woman, Candi Miller, died after declining to seek medical care for complications from abortion medication.
Throughout her campaign, Ms. Harris has sought to tie former President Donald J. Trump, who has taken credit for appointing the Supreme Court justices who provided the key votes to overturn the federal right to abortion, to dire medical situations faced by women seeking the procedure in states where it is banned or heavily restricted.
Over the past week, Ms. Harris and her campaign have repeatedly highlighted the deaths of the two women in Georgia, a crucial presidential battleground. Her campaign hammered Senator JD Vance of Ohio, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, for skipping a Senate vote on legislation protecting access to in vitro fertilization, or I.V.F.
And it released a new ad featuring a gutting testimonial from Hadley Duvall, a survivor of sexual abuse who was impregnated by her stepfather at age 12. She miscarried but, as a young adult, has become a prominent advocate for abortion rights, particularly in her home state of Kentucky, where the Republican-led legislature passed a ban on the procedure with no exceptions for rape or incest.
“I can’t imagine not having a choice,” she said of her pregnancy , in a speech at the Democratic National Convention.
On Thursday, Ms. Duvall will appear with Ms. Harris at a virtual event with Oprah Winfrey.
Abortion rights have dominated American politics since Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court in 2022, transforming a once-sleepy debate over whether a woman can legally terminate a pregnancy into a driving electoral force. In campaigns across the country, Democrats have embraced the personal stories of women facing life-threatening medical complications to highlight the impacts of new restrictions on abortion rights and access.
Aides say Ms. Harris believes appearing at the site of these bans — rushing into the fire of weighty issues, as they describe it — is an important way to leverage the power of her bully pulpit. She traveled to Arizona and Iowa shortly after those states enacted restrictions, and was the first sitting vice president to visit the site of an abortion clinic.
In her remarks on Friday, Ms. Harris will call for restoring federal abortion rights and cite the women’s deaths as illustrating the devastating impacts of what she calls “Trump Abortion Bans,” according to the person with knowledge of her remarks.
“Women are bleeding out in parking lots, turned away from emergency rooms, losing their ability to ever have children again,” she said in a statement about ProPublica’s reporting earlier this week. “And now women are dying. These are the consequences of Donald Trump’s actions.”

All Events in A Dusty Trip and how to deal with them (Wind Update)
From sudden sandstorms to resource scarcity, A Dusty Trip is full of events that can challenge your survival skills . This guide lists all these events and provides practical strategies, ensuring you're always prepared.
How to deal with all A Dusty Trip Events - Roblox
Below, you can find the list of all the conditions in the game and the methods to deal with them.
Drive-By Shooting
The Drive-By Shooting is a unique event after 5000M in A Dusty Trip. In it, you will find a group of fully armed NPCs driving a van and shooting at you. If they manage to hit you, it will immediately kill you and cause you to lose all your progress. So, how do you counter them? You can quickly identify the mob from their vehicle's V8 engine, which produces intense noise from miles away. Using this sound clue, stay inside a nearby building. But, if you cannot find one, stay inside the car and travel in the opposite direction. Still, you will take some damage if the bullets penetrate through your windows.
Heatwaves are random. When they appear, they will make your screen turn red, wobble, and have a mirage-like effect, making your players sweat a lot. Though they don't reduce your health, your hunger will decrease twice as fast, and you can only overcome it by eating more food than normal. Consistently storing a lot of food in the trunk will ensure you're always prepared for any heatwaves you do encounter.
You can find several Sandbug hills or holes throughout the map. Each one of these will contain a handful of the annoying insects. They are passive creatures and won't do anything other than temporarily blinding you for a while. So, the only advice is, please don't touch them; even if you do, you won't take any damage or deal with any issue beyond temporary blindness.
Related : What is the ending in A Dusty Trip?
Sandstorms are similar to thunderstorms but are much easier to counter. During a sandstorm, heavy gusts of winds blow towards you and your car, damaging your health. To avoid this, always close the four doors of your vehicle. That's it! You can keep driving without worrying about anything. But if you are on an ATV or motorbike, you can do nothing other than stay at a nearby building until the sandstorm passes.
Solar Eclipse
When a Solar Eclipse occurs, your surroundings and screen will turn dark. To avoid this, stop looking at the Solar Eclipse, as it will further darken the screen, and continue with what you were doing. The screen will return to its standard color after the eclipse finishes in 10 to 15 seconds.
Thunderstorm
Thunderstorms are everyday events in A Dusty Trip. You can find them frequently after crossing the 1500M mark every 10 seconds. It will rain heavily during a thunderstorm, with lightning striking at random locations. The best way to counter a thunderstorm is to take temporary shelter inside a building, as the lightning will kill you if you don't have any rigid protection. You can also drive during a thunderstorm with any four-wheeled vehicle, but please prepare to lose all your gas, the health of your car, and even some of your health if struck randomly by a bolt of lightning.
Like real life, a tornado resembles a funnel-shaped moving cloud that can destroy your vehicle and send all its parts randomly flying through the air if you drive through it. However, the probability of that happening is low, as you can quickly identify any tornado miles away and change the direction of your car to a safe one or find any building near your vicinity. If you do take shelter, bring your vehicle inside the building, as the tornado will tear your car apart if parked outside.

While traveling through the desert, you may encounter UFOs at random locations. Many players say that UFOs may kidnap you if you stare at them for a while, eliminating you from the game. Still, these are just rumors, and nobody has concrete proof about exactly what they do for now. I suggest ignoring the UFOs, giving them a wide berth, and continue driving.
Vehicle Troubles
Once in a while, your vehicle may stop for some unknown reasons, even if you have adequate fuel, engine oil, or water for your radiators. These are called Vehicle Troubles, and the only way to move forward is to reassemble the automobile from scratch. So, disable and fix it again to move forward. We've got complete guides on how to fix your car and how to fix your van in A Dusty Trip , should you need some further assistance diagnosing and resolving the issue.
Sometimes, a strong gush of wind blows horizontally in any direction. This mighty wind can throw your vehicle off balance, tumbling into the desert, and will lead to your death. So, how do you save yourself from this event? Well, apply the handbrake and sit tight until the wind goes away.
