"We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful," the band's statement continued.

"Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle."

The Eagles' longtime friends and fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, Steely Dan, will open for the Hotel California music makers.

According to the statement, The Eagles members Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Timothy B. Schmit, alongside Vince Gill and Deacon Frey "will perform as many shows in each market as their audience demands."

The show features some great light and sound effects apart from the great music that Eagles is renowned for. The 'five-part' harmony song, "Hole in the World" elicits a great crowd participation with the audience providing a 'clap rhythm' as the band sings. The song "Life's Been Good" features some antics by Joe Walsh and Frey with them staging a mock rivalry on stage and the latter having a hearty laugh at the former. The song also features a 'helmet cam' session where the crowd gets to see what the camera on Walsh's helmet points at. Also, the songs "The Boys of Summer" and "Hotel California" feature the first officially documented use by the Eagles of a drum machine in a live performance; in particular, during "Hotel California", a pre-programmed track is used to simulate the muted guitar strums which provide a steady beat on the original studio recording of the song, and which are absent from all of the previous live performances of it.

History of the Eagles

Product Description

The Eagles' momentous 2004 farewell tour filled stadiums around the world, and this DVD set captures one of the most stellar events from that now-historic global sweep. Track Listings: The Long Run New Kids In Town Wasted Time Peaceful Easy Feeling I Can't Tell You Why One Of These Nights One Day At A Time Lyin' Eyes The Boys Of Summer In The City Already Gone Silent Spring (intro) Tequila Sunrise Love Will Keep Us Alive No More Cloudy Days Hole In The World Take It To The Limit You Belong To The City Walk Away Sunset Grill Life's Been Good Dirty Laundry Funk #49 Heartache Tonight Life In The Fast Lane Hotel California Rocky Mountain Way All She Wants To Do Is Dance Take It Easy Desperado

Thirty songs, spread out over two discs and well over two and a half hours, with fine performances, great sound, and good visual direction: it's all here on Farewell 1 Tour , a documentary of the Eagles' 2004 concert in Melbourne, Australia. At one point, the veteran band seemed unlikely to even make it to the new millennium, but here they are, mostly intact, with a string of hits dating back more than three decades. The majority of them are performed here, from the earliest ("Take It Easy," "Desperado," "Peaceful Easy Feeling") through "Hotel California" and "Life in the Fast Lane" and right up to "Love Will Keep Us Alive" (from Hell Freezes Over , their most recent recording with new material on it); there are also hits from Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Joe Walsh's solo careers, and a few new songs as well, including Walsh's "One Day at a Time" (an earnest ode to his new-found sobriety) and "Hole in the World," Frey and Henley's moving, almost gospel-tinged reaction to the events of 9/11/01. Guitarist Don Felder, who split acrimoniously with the band in 2001, isn't much missed, as replacement Steuart Smith plays the parts just as Felder did--i.e., pretty much exactly as they were recorded (indeed, pristine recreations of the studio versions of their songs has always been a hallmark of the Eagles' live shows). As for the somewhat cheeky title, well, there's always been a certain smugness to the Eagles' sense of humor, and it's no different this time, as Frey doesn't even pretend that there won't be a Farewell 2 Tour in the future. And why not? These are good songs, played beautifully by the quartet (plus supplemental musicians) to audiences that love them. Bonus material is limited to perfunctory interviews with the band. --Sam Graham

The Eagles Long Goodbye: See the setlist for the legendary rock band's final tour

eagles farewell tour australia

It will be a long goodbye for the Eagles, who announced their final tour in July and vow to stay on the road through 2025 - or until they hit every market that might welcome them, sometimes more than once.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers kicked off their farewell at New York's Madison Square Garden Sept. 7 with a 23-song setlist that spotlights their myriad hits – "Take it Easy," "Witchy Woman," "Tequila Sunrise," "Life in the Fast Lane" and of course, "Hotel California" among them – and also paid tribute to "dear friend" Jimmy Buffett, who died Sept. 1 , and original Eagles bassist Randy Meisner, who died in July.

As on past tours, the core of Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit and Joe Walsh are joined by upper-register maestro Vince Gill and Deacon Frey, son of the late Eagles legend Glenn Frey. The additional four musicians backing the Eagles augment an already pristine sound for this two-hour hits parade.

Here is a look at the songs being performed on the Eagles' Long Goodbye tour.

Rocking and reflective: Eagles pay tribute to Jimmy Buffett at final tour kickoff: 'Sailing on that cosmic ocean'

Hundreds gather on Cable Beach to pay tribute to Broome astronomer, tour guide and TV star Greg Quicke

A composite picture of a bearded man and surfers at a beach

If it wasn't looking at the night sky it was in the water off Broome where renowned astronomer Greg Quicke liked to be.

In early June, Quicke's family announced the Broome legend had died at the age of 62 .

On Saturday, under the phase of a new moon on a bright morning, friends and family of the astronomer and TV star made their way to the shoreline he loved to honour his life.

Mr Quicke, who was otherwise known as "Space Gandalf" for his distinctive beard, was best known for his astro tours in the Kimberley town where he introduced generations of visitors and locals to the wonders of the night sky.

Hundreds of people gathered at Cable Beach to pay tribute to the astronomer through a traditional surfers "paddle out".

A man with a beard and headset mic smiles

Mr Quicke was also remembered as a pioneer of the Broome surf scene.

Friends and family took to the water to form a circle after a minute's silence and laying of wreaths and flowers.

Wil Thomas said his close friend "embodied" Broome and paying tribute to his life in the surf was fitting.

"I've got so many memories of being in the surf with Greg, and wet season storms, and just the best memories of life here in this water with him," he said.

"It made complete sense to do the ultimate surfers' tribute and have this big paddle out for him."

Surfers walk through sage before they enter the water

Mr Thomas said Mr Quicke's legacy was evident in his teachings about the night sky and his ability to translate knowledge in a way others could understand.

"Every time I look up at the night sky I remember him and everyone will. That's one of his legacies, to be good to each other, to love each other," he said.

"He was the maker of stars, and now he's gone back to them."

Emotional tribute for a 'spiritual' man

While Mr Quicke spent his childhood in WA's south west, his motorcycle adventures brought him to Broome in the 1980s, where his interests in the stars took a hold.

He rose to national and international prominence on the ABC and BBC's Stargazing Live specials, where he appeared alongside Professor Brian Cox.

Floral tributes laid on a surfboard

Over 28 years, it's estimated more than 100,000 people listened to Mr Quicke's explanations of the sparkling night sky on his Kimberley tours.

Mark Jones first met him 25 years ago and they soon became friends through their shared interests and time filming together.

two people embrace on a beach

Mr Jones said his friend was someone who "had time for everybody".

"I think that's reflected in the turnout today and the very emotional circle we had on the ocean," he said.

"There are a lot of tears out there today and that's testament to the depth of feeling everybody in the community had for him.

"He left us with wonder and awe at the night sky and for nature, he was a deeply spiritual man."

a group of people at a beach

In a statement after Mr Quicke's passing, his family said he was "survived by a legion of people whose lives he touched".

"He brought the universe to us all and translated it into a language we all understood," the statement read.

"He was watched by millions of people around the globe and carried out his life work with inspirational spirit and freedom."

Impact felt worldwide

Luke Huxley travelled from Colorado in the United States for the memorial and first met Mr Quicke while stargazing in the Kimberley.

Mr Huxley said he had fond memories of spending time on Cable Beach with his friend.

"I came to him with a problem once and his big advice was to just walk down Cable Beach here until your worries were gone, until you figured it out," he said.

A man stands on a ladder beside a telescope

"It's kind of an illusion that he's crossed over to light up another place — just like the sun when it goes down."

Mr Quicke is survived by his parents, a sister and an adult daughter.
