• Thundercat Whitsundays – for visiting the north end of Whitehaven Beach, hill inlet lookout, they also include 2 snorkel locations. Pros – fast boat, 2 snorkel locations, hill inlet lookout. Cons – does not visit the south end of the beach, no dietary requirements provided, plastic seating.
• Cruise Whitsundays Half Day Tour – perfect for guests low on time and just want to visit Whitehaven Beach without snorkelling. Pros – Half day tour, south end and lookout, an air-conditioned ferry ride. Cons – Large group numbers in the 100s, no snorkelling or lunches.

Is there a shop at Whitehaven Beach?

There are no shops on Whitehaven Beach the island is uninhabited. 

Can you walk on Whitehaven Beach?

Visitors can spend time walking the beach or the tracks at each end of the beach which leads to the lookouts.

Where is the best spot on Whitehaven Beach?

In my opinion, the best spot on Whitehaven Beach is the south end, specifically the South Lookout. This area offers stunning views of the pristine beach and is considered the true Whitehaven Beach.

On the other hand, the northern end accessed through Tongue Bay, known as Betty’s Beach and Whitehaven Bay, can get quite crowded between 10am and 4pm. While still beautiful, and you will see Hill Inlet (at the right tide) there is no beating standing on the named beach.

Is Whitehaven Beach accessible by wheelchair?

Unfortunately no, there is no wheelchair access on the beach

What is the sand at Whitehaven Beach made of?

Whitehaven Beach’s sand is cool to touch on hot days and perfectly compliments the turquoise waters of the Whitsundays. Made up of 98.9% pure silica, it has a unique white colour and powdery texture. The sand is so fine that it can easily get into and harm electronic gadgets.

Is it safe to swim at Whitehaven Beach?

You can swim at Whitehaven Beach all year round due to the warm tropical waters. There are no large waves or rips and the shoreline is shallow with a light decline.  However, during the months of November To April, it is advised to use a stinger suit due to jellyfish.

Are there any dangerous animals at Whitehaven Beach?

Dangerous marine stingers can be found in the waters all year round but mostly from November to April, like any ocean there are sharks, and saltwater crocodiles can be in the sea at all times of the year, but is very rare to see them around the islands

Are there any public restrooms at Whitehaven Beach?

Public restrooms are available at the South end of Whitehaven Beach only. These are hybrid compostable toilets.

Is there any shade available at Whitehaven Beach?

Whitehaven Beach offers a truly unforgettable experience with its pristine sands, breathtaking views, and tranquil ambiance. The beach is located on Whitsunday Island, the largest of the 74 islands in the Whitsundays. Tours depart daily from Airlie Beach to visit Whitehaven.

Silica Sands of Whitehaven The beach is renowned for its bright white sands, which are composed of 98% pure silica. The unique composition of the sand contributes to its incredibly soft and fine texture, making it a pleasure to walk on barefoot.

Walks accesible from Whitehaven Beach There are two walking tracks to explore from Whitehaven Beach. The first is located on the southern end, leading through Australian native bush and local rainforest. This 1 km walk offers panoramic views of the sparkling waters in the inlets of Chance Bay and the 7 km stretch of pure white silica sand along Whitehaven Beach towards the northern Hill Inlet.

At the northern end of Whitehaven Beach, you'll find Hill Inlet, a stunning inlet where the tides create a mesmerizing blend of colors as the sand and water shift. Many consider Hill Inlet and Whitehaven Beach to be among the most beautiful places they've ever seen. The best viewpoint to admire the swirling sands of Hill Inlet is from the lookout at Tongue Point. Terms and Conditions

Important Information: 

Guests must be able to show a valid ID at check in to support their ticket type (i.e Senior or Child ticket). If you cannot produce valid identification to meet your ticket requirements, you will not be able to travel without paying a surcharge/difference in fare.

Children's fare 4-14 years inclusive. Infants under 4 years travel free of charge, however, we must be advised at the time of booking when an infant is traveling.

Your Responsibilities:

Please advise us before booking if any passengers are under 18 years old to ensure this is the appropriate trip. 

You must reconfirm all booked tours prior to travel as specified on your voucher. If applicable, notes such as dietary requirements, pick-up locations and additional fees should also be confirmed at this time. Reconfirmations cannot be actioned through Sailing Whitsundays/Mr Travel, and must be done so directly through the Service Operator as specified on each ticket.

It is your responsibility to notify us of ticket discrepancies. Please read through the details on your voucher thoroughly to ensure all details such as passenger names, ages and dates of travel on vouchers are correct.

It is the responsibility of all passengers travelling to advise both your travel agent at the time of booking and vessel check-in agent before boarding of any medical conditions including food allergies you may suffer from.

You need to allow adequate time to check-in prior to the specified departure time. 

Prices/Extra Costs:

All prices are stated in Australian dollars and include GST. Surcharges over peak holiday seasons may apply. 

The Service Operator reserves the right to alter prices and extra costs. Extra costs may include EMC fees, Stingersuit/Wetsuit Hire, Luggage Storage, Insurance, Linen Hire, National Park Fees, Fuel Levies, Dietary Fees, etc. Bonds may also apply.

We will also endeavour to communicate these extra costs with you at the time of booking, and on your ticket. However, it is your responsibility to confirm which (if any) additional costs apply with each Service Operator upon reconfirming your trip.

Travel Risk/Insurance:

It should be noted that adventure travel involves risk. Whilst we make every effort to safeguard clients, we cannot be responsible for personal injury or loss due to the actions of our clients which are beyond our control. We highly recommend that all clients have travel insurance covering illness, injury, loss or damage to personal belongings and not being able to travel on the confirmed date of departure. You should also ensure your travel insurance will cover special circumstances including weather events preventing guests from travelling to their tour departure destination and cancelled flights due to unforeseen circumstances. 

The Service Operator reserves the right to limit courtesy transfers to select local accommodations. Private residences or Airbnb properties may be asked to meet at the closest confirmed location. Failure to meet at the specified pick-up location may be treated as “No Show”, for which the Client Cancellation Policy applies.

Merchant Fees:

Please be aware operators pass on credit card merchant fees so there is a non-refundable 1% surcharge for VISA and MASTERCARD card purchases.

All ticket/voucher reissues attract a $20 administration fee.

Open Date Vouchers / Gift Certificate:

Shipping Costs are in addition to the ticket price and will be added at check-out. Shipping costs are non-refundable and do not makeup part of the ticket value. 

E-Vouchers incur no shipping fees. You have 5 years to use the value of the voucher. Seasonal Price Rises will apply if travelling out the current seasons pricing. Vouchers can be exchanged for free up to the full value of the voucher excluding credit card fees and charges.

Cancellations

Client Cancellations:

No-shows or client cancellations made within 48 hours of departure forfeit 100% of the total ticket price. 

Sailing Whitsundays are required to notify the operator of any cancellations within the specified cancellation period (48 hours). It is your responsibility to make sure you submit your cancellation request with adequate time, and during standard business hours (9am-5pm), to allow us to contact the tour provider.

Transfers between tours can be made at the suppliers discretion, however, it should be noted that supplier fees may apply. Tour transfers also incur a $20 administration fee. 

It is compulsory that all cancellation requests are in writing and sent via email to [email protected]. Cancellations attempted via online chat or phone will not be actioned.

Supplier Cancellations:

The Service Operator reserves the right to alter prices, alter itineraries, apply a fuel surcharge, cancel departures, arrange alternative transport and vary itineraries and services if necessary.

All departures and itineraries are subject to weather. Tours may be changed or cancelled for any reason at the discretion of the Service Operator. If the Service Operator has to cancel the trip or activity (prior to departure) and we cannot offer a suitable alternative, then a refund will be given minus a 20% administration fee and any associated card fees. We strongly recommend that you have travel insurance, especially during the wet season.

In the unlikely event of your trip being cancelled or stood down, all guest communication is required to go through our Online Store via telephone or email. While there is a Sailing Whitsundays retail outlet located Airlie Beach, please be aware that they operate as a separate entity and are unable to access reservations made by the Mr Travel online department.

All refunds are in Australian Dollars and must be made to the card of payment. Sailing Whitsundays/Mr Travel is not liable for exchange rate fluctuations or fees, or any other merchant/bank fees associated with domestic and/or international transactions.

Where a full refund is applicable, there is the option to transfer the whole cost of the tour to another tour or “Credit” to avoid the administration fee. A transfer fee of $20 will apply.

You will be emailed confirmation once the refund has been processed. Once the refund has been processed, it may still take time for the banks to clear the amount. Please allow 7-10 business days for the funds to clear into Australian accounts and up to 21 business days for international accounts.

Accountability/Misconduct:

All Service Operators have the right to provide client feedback and to cancel bookings based off of feedback from other Service Operators.

Sailing Whitsundays/Mr Travel will treat this as any normal client cancellation and therefore the cancellation fees stated in the Client Cancellation Policy will apply.

Whitehaven Beach has been voted the best beach in the world ! Therefore it is no wonder that the 7km stretch of white pristine beach will take your breath away.

Whitehaven Beach is located along the sheltered South East edge of Whitsunday Island. An idyllic tropical paradise situated in the middle of all of the 74 Whitsunday Islands , and is only a little over a 1 hour fast cruise from Airlie Beach.

Whitehaven Xpress guests enjoy approx. 5 hours on the island. The perfect amount of time to explore, swim, dine at the Beach BBQ and chill on the pure white silica sands . 

Whitehaven Beach Schedule

Upon arrival at Whitehaven Beach a short informative briefing is conducted. Guests are then ferried ashore to the renowned white silica sand shoreline of Whitehaven Beach.

As our friendly team bring the ice cold beverages and set up for the Whitehaven Beach BBQ, guests are invited to spend the first hour exploring the island at their leisure. Consider joining the guided bush walk to the Whitehaven Lookout, make the most of the iconic beach , or perhaps join the Captain at the BBQ for some good old Aussie banter!

The sumptous Whitehaven Beach BBQ is  served under the rainforest canopy of the Whitsunday Island National Park. Taking your lunch to the beach instead of the picnic tables is always an option – the choice is yours.

After the BBQ you’ll enjoy at least another hour before we cruise towards the Northern End of Whitehaven Beach for  Hill Inlet Beach & Lookout  and a stroll down to the swirling sands.

Ride, beach, snorkel and bushwalk…all in one day!  Ocean Rafting’s Southern Lights tour offers the perfect Whitehaven Beach tour, visiting both ends of the world famous beach and enjoying approximately two hours relaxing at the southern end of the 7km stretch of Whitehaven Beach.

At the northern end of Whitehaven Beach, enjoy a guided bushwalk to spectacular Hill Inlet Lookout to view and capture photographs of the stunning swirling silica sands and aqua water.  Ocean Rafting is the only tour to have direct access to all areas of the stunning and iconic Hill Inlet beach to ensure you enjoy the most memorable experience of this special place.

Snorkel for over an hour at Border Island, Dumbell Island, or one of our “secret” snorkel spots and enjoy the amazing hard and soft corals of the fringing reefs, as well as a huge range of marine life including colourful fish, turtles, clams and so much more, all of which call the inner coral reefs home.

Ocean Rafting has the fastest day boats in the Whitsundays, meaning it is not only an adventurous ride, but distances are covered in a shorter time, leaving more time for activities.  The semi rigid inflatable vessels are super fast allowing guests to experience a fun ride, adventure and education amongst the natural beauty of the Whitsundays.    You can see why we call it three days in one!

The main difference between the two tours is that the Southern Lights has more beach time and the Northern Exposure offers more snorkelling time.

Please note: If you are travelling to the Whitsundays on a cruise ship, the timings of this experience do not align with the visiting cruise ship schedule.

This fantastic half day cruise takes you past some of the Whitsundays remote areas, beautiful bays, peaceful islands and onto dazzling Whitehaven Beach. Prepare to be dazzled by the breathtaking beauty and vivid white sand of Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island. This uninhabited island is one of Australia’s true gems and the journey to the beach is spectacular too.

It's Tour Day If you have a pick up it is on it's way. If not, make your way to the Maritime Terminal

Check your ticket. Your pick up location and time are on your ticket. Enjoy a leisurely drive through town as we pick up your fellow passengers. If you are making your own way, be at the Maritime Terminal at the Port of Airlie by 11.05am Please don’t be late.

At the Maritime Terminal proceed to the Cruise Whitsundays counter to complete your check in. From here you will be introduced to your crew and escorted to your vessel.

Your cruise vessel has expansive seating areas inside and out and your friendly skipper will provide an informative commentary on the history and natural wonders of the area. The waters of Solway Passage lead us to the world famous Whitehaven Beach, a definite ‘must see’ in the Whitsundays. The crystal clear aqua waters and pristine white silica sands stretch for over seven kilometres along Whitsunday Island, the largest of the 74 islands in the Whitsundays. Wander along the beach to your own secluded stretch, laze on the sand or cool off in the azure waters. It is Mother Nature at her best. Walk up to the Solway Lookout and get your own selfie against the most photographed beach in Australia and named ‘Queensland’s Most Beautiful Beach’.

Time to head back This is not just a ride back to Port, It's a tour of the Whitsunday Islands

Settle down on board, grab your favourite drink or some afternoon tea and get ready for your ride around the Whitsunday Islands as you make your way back to Port. The views of the Islands are breathtaking. On arrival at the Port you will be escorted to your bus to take you back to your accommodation if applicable or make your way back to your accommodation to look back on a great day out with Cruise Whitsundays on the half day Whitehaven Beach tour.
