Gold Coast, Australia

Profile-image

The Gold Coast is a coastal city in southeastern Queensland and is located on the east coast of Australia. It is the sixth largest city in Australia and is well known for its natural attractions including its never ending, beautiful beaches. The Gold Coast may not be known for its predominant Muslim population but it does have a long history with Middle Easterners and therefore it is quite easy for Muslim travelers to find Halal facilities.

The city is globally renowned for its coastline which consists of some of the most popular surf breaks in the world including The Spit, Main Beach, Surfers Paradise and so much more. It is also known for its mild winters and warm, humid summers that make it perfect for outdoor activities and exploration quests. Gold Coast is the most popular tourist destination in Queensland and is hence well equipped with numerous hostels, motels, resorts and hotels. In addition to that, it is the home to several theme parks, water parks, rainforests, national parks, beaches and exotic wildlife. Tourists favor the coastal attractions such as the Great Barrier Reef. Fraser Island is another tourist favorite located not far from Gold Coast city. It is listed as a World Heritage site and is the world’s largest sand island. Fraser Island is home to the historic Maheno shipwreck as well as kangaroos, wallabies and possums.

There are several tours that Muslim tourists can take to learn more about the rich history behind Gold Coast and Fraser Island and all the other attractions the city boasts.

Gold Coast is a shopper’s paradise. There is a significant amount of shopping malls and shops around the beaches and the coastline including Robina Town Shopping Centre and Pacific Fair, which is one of the major shopping malls on the Gold Coast.

Nearby Airports

Almost all major airlines fly to the Gold Coast airport. However, the ones that do not, mostly fly to Brisbane Airport, which is less than one hour away from the centre of Gold Coast. Both airports are easy to reach and can be accessed by public transport.

Halal Restaurants

Because of its Muslim population, Gold Coast does have a few Halal restaurants, certified by the Halal authority in the city. You will find a variety of Lebanese, Indian, Chinese and Thai halal restaurants all catering to Muslim travelers as well as the locals.

The Gold Coast Islamic Centre in Arundel serves as a masjid aswell as a madrasah five days a week. It also holds classes for Hifz and other Islamic programs. The mosque holds Jummah Salah every Friday, and has separate facilities for women as well. There are several other mosques including the Gold Coast mosque; that are easily accessible.

Muslim Travel Tips to Brisbane and Gold Coast for First Timers

have halal will travel gold coast

Are you hoping to venture down under to uncover the beauties of Muslim-friendly Brisbane and Gold Coast? Both Australian cities boast a myriad of exciting fun with friends or maybe even the whole family. Besides long sandy beaches and surfing spots, Brisbane and Gold Coast is perfect for adrenaline junkies who are planning to conquer the many theme parks like Dreamworld and Wet’n’Wild. With plenty to offer for all age groups, follow these Muslim-friendly tips and tricks to make your journey to Brisbane a smooth one!

How to get around

Translink Brisbane Australia

Travelling on public transport while in Brisbane is relatively easy since it prides itself on being environmentally-friendly. With a TransLink go card , you can easily navigate your way on buses, ferries and rail services. If you’re in the inner city, you may also have the chance to hail a bus for free. Do take note of the few city loop services that transverse around the entire city and stops within the Central Business District (CBD).

Translink Australia

Similarly, public transport in Gold Coast also uses the “go card”. There are various public transportations such as buses, trains and trams that can transport you to popular tourist spots such as Surfers Paradise or to the Brisbane airport when you’re ready to head home.

Where to stay

Looking for accommodations in Brisbane and Gold Coast can be relatively easy, depending on what you’re looking for. It’s a good idea to divide your trip into two; split between Brisbane and Gold Coast as they’re pretty close by.

While in Gold Coast, an entire apartment along the coast of Surfer’s Paradise can cost anywhere between S$80 to S$100 per night. Apartments are a great choice of accommodations if you’re travelling as a family or with a large group of friends. As for Brisbane, the cost of an Airbnb right in town will cost about S$80 to S$100 as well. However, you will clearly save on transport as you’ll be strategically based in the city where you’ll be able to find tons of activities to do.

surfers paradise

If you have a tight budget, hostels are a more wallet-friendly option! Prices for hostels range anywhere between S$15 to S$30 per bed, dependent on the type of room you prefer. Personally, I think hostels are always a better option for those of the younger crowd. Not only do you get to use your limited budget on other activities, but you can also meet people of all nationalities and make friends along the way.

Searching for Halal food

Dapur Dahlia Australia

Although Muslims aren’t the majority in Australia, looking for halal food isn’t as tough as it seems. As Muslim travellers, you will be able to find a wide array of cuisines that cater to your halal needs. There are plenty of halal Turkish , Indian or even Malay eateries found in both Brisbane. Make a pit stop at Rumi Persian Restaurant if you’re looking for a Persian cuisine fix with a variety of kebabs and stews. Otherwise, dine at Dapur Dahlia for a serving of authentic and classic Malay dishes such as rendang and satay.

Eat Street Northshore oysters

Another place you’ll have to head over to Eat Street Markets in Northshore over the weekends. Imagine being in a Bangkok night market, without the humidity! Housing more than 70 vendors, you’ll find rows of container stalls serving up a wide variety of cuisines, from Malaysian to Turkish dishes. There are also plenty of Muslim-friendly seafood options such as fresh oysters if you’re looking for something different.

Prayer rooms and Mosques

Moorooka mosque Australia

It’ll always be interesting to visit mosques in various parts of the globe. Luckily, there are a number of mosques scattered across Brisbane; Holland Park Mosque , Kuraby Mosque and Moorooka Mosque just to name a few. The best part about visiting local mosques is that you’ll be able to interact with the local Muslim community.

Gold Coast Islamic Society Australia

Take a break from shopping to perform your prayers as there’s a musollah at the Harbourtown Shopping Center in Gold Coast! Moreover, there’s a beautiful local mosque in Arundel , about 15 minutes drive away from the city, called Gold Coast Mosque. It’s the main hub for the Gold Coast Islamic Society and also where they hold many gatherings for the Muslim community in Gold Coast.

Must-Visit Spots

Brisbane Australia

You can pop over to Kangaroo Point Cliff and try abseiling down! There is no better way to escape the city than to immerse yourself in nature. There are multiple barbeque pits and picnic spots available within the vicinity, making it a great spot for a quiet picnic.

Otherwise, visit the Moreton Islands for a different scenic landscape. Imagine untouched emerald beaches or sleeping under the stars. Being a sand island, there won’t be any no roads found so you’ll have to either drive a four-wheel drive or rely on your trusty feet! You may also enjoy various activities like snorkelling, surfing or fishing!

Theme Parks

You will never have a dull moment especially if you’re heading to Gold Coast. The first thing that pops to mind when you think of Gold Coast has to be the multitude of theme parks found here. You can begin your theme park adventure by heading to Warner Bros Movie World and relive your childhood memories by getting on the rides of your favourite cartoons. Don’t miss out on the Superman Escape and Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster.

Warner Bros Movie World Australia

#HZtip : If you’re feeling peckish after screaming your lungs out, grab a bite at Rick’s Cafe – a halal-certified restaurant! Do take note that all poultry products in this theme park are halal.

Exploring Aussie wildlife

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

Take a break from all the roller coasters and check out the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary . If you’re a fan of animals (well, who isn’t), this will be the spot for you! You’ll get a chance to get up close and personal with various Australian animals like the koalas, kangaroos and even the Tasmanian devil!

With all these tips provided, your next trip down to Brisbane or Gold Coast is bound to get slightly sweeter. Plan your trip wisely and you’ll be able to save a couple of dollars, spend more time soaking in the good weather offered in Queensland and that’s all you need for an amazing holiday!

Built around the snaking Brisbane River, activities in Queensland’s capital are often centred around this signature landmark. Start your adventure with a visit to South Bank , located on the banks of the river. You’ll find alfresco restaurants, live entertainment and picturesque parklands. On a summer’s day, there’s nowhere better to cool off than at the South Bank’s man-made Streets Beach, complete with a spectacular city skyline view. For an art and culture fix, explore the Queensland Art Gallery (QAG) and Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA ).

Widen your horizons (quite literally), on a picnic experience with a difference. Rent an electric GoBoat to cruise past the city’s most celebrated monuments. If you’re seeking an adrenaline rush, climb to the summit of the  Story Bridge for a panoramic view you’ll not soon forget.

If you have time, you shouldn't miss Brisbane's collection of easily accessible  islands . Take the ferry to Moreton Island , a magnet for adventurers with its epic sand dunes, snorkelling and wildlife experiences. Every evening, a pod of dolphins swims up to the white-sand shores and are hand-fed by rangers.

Dubbed ‘Queensland’s sunshine capital,’ the Gold Coast is a hotbed for family fun, relaxation and ocean activities. Its golden coastline is the city’s main drawcard. With over 70km (44mi) of beaches to choose from, you’ll have no problem finding a spot to unwind on the sand, enjoy a swim or try your hand at water sports like paddleboarding and parasailing.

Away from the ocean, the exhilaration continues at the city’s collection of world-class theme parks . Meet your favourite superheroes at Warner Bros. Movie World and tackle the thrill rides at Australia’s largest theme park, Dreamworld.

A one-hour drive from Brisbane and the Gold Coast lies the World Heritage-listed Scenic Rim . Spend a day uncovering cascading waterfalls, spectacular lookouts and charming mountain villages.

Brisbane’s premier shopping precinct is the vibrant and pedestrianised Queen Street Mall district. Here, you can fix your retail cravings at a variety of modern shopping centres and iconic 1900s arcades.

In the stylish Fortitude Valley , James Street and the Emporium are teeming with local designers and high-end fashion stores. Shop for antiques and collectables in the suburbs of Woolloongabba, or head to Paddington for homewares, books and designer fashions. For unique art, fashion and accessories, head to the  Fortitude Valley Markets,  which are held every weekend.

For a full day of shopping, make a beeline to the biggest shopping centre in Queensland. Located on the outskirts of Brisbane, Westfield Carindale is a mecca for shopping and provides multi-faith prayer rooms on request.

On the Gold Coast, you can shop to your heart’s content at Pacific Fair in Broadbeach, which has a prayer room as well as 300 stores, cafés and restaurants. In Biggera Waters, land big-brand bargains at Harbour Town , Australia’s largest outlet shopping centre with over 220 clearance stores.

After soaking in the sunshine at Burleigh Beach, venture to the laid-back, leafy James Street to shop an eclectic mix of Australian boutiques, art galleries and independent homeware stores. If you’re visiting on the first and third Sundays of the month, check out the award-winning Village Markets .

For a unique shopping experience under the stars, visit The Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets  (held on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday nights). As well as a relaxed, Bohemian atmosphere, you’ll discover fashion, jewellery, artworks, beauty products and homewares.

There are many mosques and prayer rooms within Brisbane. Both Brisbane Airport and Gold Coast Airport offer a multi-faith prayer room, perfect for Muslim travellers.

The most popular and historic mosque in Brisbane is the beautiful Holland Park Mosque . Built in 1908, it’s the oldest mosque on the East Coast of Australia and the first of its kind in Queensland. Nearby is Kuraby Mosque , proudly home to over 40 nationalities within its congregation.

On the Gold Coast, many of the 10,000-plus Muslims that live in the city attend Jum’ah prayer at the Islamic Society of Gold Coast or the Gold Coast Southport Masjid .

Prepare to embark on a culinary adventure like no other. Indeed, the Gold Coast has much more to offer than just its picturesque beaches and exciting theme parks. So, are you ready to discover it?

Does Gold Coast have halal food?

Yes, Gold Coast in Australia does have options for Halal food. The city has a diverse food culture and caters to various dietary preferences, including Halal. You can find Halal restaurants, fast food chains, and even grocery stores offering Halal products. However, it’s always a good idea to check with the restaurant or store beforehand to ensure they are Halal-certified or offer Halal options.

Is it hard to find halal food in Gold Coast?

Finding halal restaurants in any major city or tourist area usually isn’t very challenging, and this holds true for the Gold Coast in Australia as well. The Gold Coast has a diverse food scene and there are several halal-certified or halal-friendly restaurants available.

However, to make certain that a restaurant meets your halal requirements, it’s always good to check if the restaurant is halal-certified or if it offers halal options on its menu. Websites, apps, or online platforms like Zomato, TripAdvisor, or HalalTrip can be helpful in finding halal food places. Always ensure to check the reviews, and it might also be a good idea to call ahead to make sure.

Please note that the availability of halal food can vary based on the area of the Gold Coast you’re in, so it’s worth doing some research ahead of time.

Which area of Gold Coast is halal?

Gold Coast, a city in Queensland, Australia, is known for its multicultural society, encompassing people of various religious beliefs, including Muslims. While there may not be a specific area designated as a “Muslim area,” Muslims in the Gold Coast do have access to facilities like mosques and halal restaurants. The Gold Coast Mosque, located in Arundel, is one such place where the Muslim community congregates.

However, it’s important to note that Australia is a multicultural society, and people from diverse backgrounds and religions live throughout all parts of cities like the Gold Coast. Thus, it’s not common to have specific religious or ethnic enclaves as might be seen in other countries. For specific information related to the distribution of the Muslim population in the Gold Coast, it’s best to refer to the most recent census data or local community resources.

Are there a lot of Muslims in Gold Coast?

The Gold Coast, a popular city in Australia, is known for its cultural diversity. However, specific data about the number of Muslims or any other religious groups in the city fluctuates and may not be readily available. As of the last Australian Census in 2016, Muslims represented a small portion of the population. But for the most accurate and up-to-date data, it’s best to refer to the Australian Bureau of Statistics or other local demographic resources.

Is Gold Coast halal friendly?

Yes, Gold Coast in Australia is quite halal-friendly. There are numerous restaurants and eateries throughout the city that cater to Muslim dietary requirements by offering halal-certified food. These include a range of cuisines, from local Australian dishes to international food from various cultures.

However, it’s always recommended to verify the halal status of any particular restaurant or dish before consuming as the certification status can sometimes change.

Furthermore, Gold Coast also has several mosques and Islamic centres which can further accommodate the needs of Muslim visitors. As always, it’s advisable for visitors to plan their trip in advance to ensure their specific needs can be met.

How to check whether McDonald’s or KFC is halal in Gold Coast?

To check if the McDonald’s or KFC in Gold Coast, Australia is Halal, follow these steps:

  • Check the official websites: Look at the official McDonald’s and KFC Australia websites to see if they provide any information. Some restaurant chains will list whether individual branches are Halal.
  • McDonald’s Australia Customer Service: 02 9875 7100
  • KFC Australia Customer Service: 1300 553 899
  • Ask them if they can provide any information on whether their Gold Coast locations are Halal certified.
  • Visit the restaurant: If you’re nearby, you may also stop by and check if they have a Halal certification displayed in the restaurant.
  • Halal Certification Authority Australia
  • Australian Halal Food Services
  • Halal Australia

Remember, even if a restaurant is certified Halal, certain menu items may not be. It’s always a good idea to verify the specific items you’re interested in.

What to do if I cannot find halal food in Gold Coast?

If you’re having difficulty finding halal food in Gold Coast, Australia, here are a few suggestions:

  • Online Research : Use online platforms like Google, TripAdvisor, or HalalTrip to find restaurants that serve halal food. You can also try using halal food apps like Zabihah and Crave Halal.
  • Cook Your Own Meals : Consider booking accommodation with cooking facilities. You can buy halal groceries from local markets or halal-certified shops and cook your own meals.
  • Vegetarian/Vegan Options : If you can’t find halal meat, opting for vegetarian or vegan food can be a safe choice, as these meals do not contain any meat products.
  • Seafood : Seafood is generally considered halal in most sects of Islam so you can opt for seafood dishes in non-halal restaurants. However, be cautious about cross-contamination with non-halal food items.
  • Kosher Food : Kosher food is often considered as halal because the methods used to prepare it are similar to halal. You may find kosher restaurants or shops in Gold Coast.
  • Local Muslim Community : Reach out to local mosques or Islamic centers in Gold Coast. They can provide you with information about halal food sources in the area.
  • Ask Restaurants : Some restaurants might use halal meat, even if they aren’t certified halal. Ask the restaurant about their meat sourcing.

Remember, it’s always important to make sure the food you consume aligns with your personal and religious beliefs.

Why I should be strict in my halal food diet in Gold Coast?

Maintaining a strict halal food diet in Gold Coast, or any other place, is primarily a matter of personal religious beliefs and commitments. If you are a practicing Muslim, adherence to a halal diet is an important part of your faith. Here are several reasons why you should be strict in your halal food diet:

  • Religious Observance : For Muslims, eating halal food is not just a matter of choice but a commandment from Allah (God). By strictly adhering to a halal diet, you are observing the dietary laws outlined in the Quran.
  • Purity and Cleanliness : Halal food regulations require animals to be raised and slaughtered in a humane, healthy, and clean manner. By consuming only halal food, you ensure that your diet is free from unhealthy and impure substances.
  • Ethical Treatment of Animals : Halal slaughtering processes require animals to be treated with kindness and respect, which aligns with many people’s ethical views towards animals.
  • Health Benefits : Some research suggests that halal meat might be healthier than non-halal meat, as it contains less blood and is free from certain harmful substances.

Even in a diverse city like Gold Coast, it can sometimes be challenging to maintain a strict halal diet due to the abundance of non-halal food options. However, this makes it even more important to remain strict with your diet to ensure that you are abiding by your religious beliefs and maintaining your commitment to a halal lifestyle. It’s also worth noting that in recent years, more halal food options have become available in the Gold Coast, making it easier for Muslims to adhere to their dietary restrictions.

18 Family-Friendly Gold Coast Restaurants We Fell In Love With

Y ou will never run out of places to eat on the Gold Coast. It may be known for its theme parks and sandy shores, but it’s culinary scene is not to be scoffed at.

If there’s one word that sums up the Goldy the best, besides FUN , it would be options!

Australia’s east coast is the fastest growing region in Australia, and with that, the restaurant scene is forever evolving. There are literally hundreds of restaurants, cafes, breweries, eateries, and bars with a dish and a price point for everyone.

One moment I’m bare foot and dressed in board shorts and a singlet sitting on a plastic chair at the humble kiosk underneath a surf club, the next I’m fine dining at the Versace Hotel.

When you’re traveling with kids, the hardest part about planning a trip if finding where to eat. We get that, we’ve had a few meltdowns trying to find a place that pleases mum and dads more innovative taste, whilst still has chicken nuggets for the fussy eaters.

If this sounds like your family, then keep reading to discover our fav family-friendly restaurants in the Gold Coast that we think your family will love.

Family-Friendly Gold Coast Restaurants

During our two week stay on the Gold Coast, we ate in a variety of places for breakfast, lunch and dinner and they were mostly family-friendly and casual in setting.

We have personally visited most of the places we recommend in this guide with our two kids, and would happily go back, or have included suggestions from our readers, friends and family!

1. BAZAAR at QT Hotel

I try to avoid buffets these days as I can’t help myself from over-eating, which is never a good thing, but BAZAAR at the funky 5* QT Hotel in Surfers Paradise is not just any buffet. It has a market place concept with literally something for everyone with fresh produce in endless quantities.

My fave is the seafood station, and I also love how the Asian chef steams up dumplings to order. There’s also a BBQ guy, wood-fired pizza, pasta, and a great salad bar.

There’s only one problem at Bazaar – holding your kids back, and yourself, from the AMAZING dessert bar with all these miniature cakes and slices staring you in the face.

Just when you thought you we’re getting out of there relatively healthy…

2. Niche & Co

One reason we go to Niche & Co is because their menu is mostly vegan and entirely healthy, which is also 100% gluten free, and Caz has a gluten intolerance.

As well as catering to our dietry needs, we also enjoy the taste of the food and always order a coffee with almond or coconut milk.

They serve award winning acai bowls and were the winners of the 2021 Travellers Choice Award on Trip Advisor.

If you have a sweet tooth, their salted caramel banana pancake stack is out of this world! It’s the perfect place to go for breakfast. Plus, they have kids-sized meals as well.

3. Greenhouse Canteen and Bar

We like to think that Greenhouse Canteen and Bar is completely healthy, plant-based and vegan, and for the most part it is, but their slogan is “ plant focused whole food sometimes naughty, mostly nice “, which may be a nod towards their delicious cocktail menu!

There are plenty of healthy options that taste great, and it’s a cut above most cafes in that regard so we continue to go back.

We like the food, the housemade lemonade, and the relaxed environment. You can’t beat the location in Tallebudgera Valley, surrounding the restaurant with greenery and nature.

And they have high chairs for kids, which is always a bonus.

4. Social Eating House + Bar, Broadbeach

This is where you should end up for breakfast or lunch after Kurrawa Beach, which has some of our favorite Gold Coast walks and an amazing park where the kids can run around and play.

At Social Eating House , you’ll feel like you’ve just stepped into your friend’s house, with a relaxed, easy-going atmosphere, although the decor is modern and sheek.

They basically walk the line between casual and fine dining, but don’t worry about it being too fancy for kids – their motto is “dining amongst friends” and you feel that connection when you visit.

They serve amazing craft cocktails, and fresh seafood – from natural oysters to catch of the day fish. They also have small plates for kids.

5. Currumbin Beach Vikings Surf Life Saving Club

If there’s one thing Queensland does really well on the casual food front it’s their Surf Clubs.

Being fully licensed and offering breakfast, lunch and dinner right on the beach we always seek them out as they make for a great family dining option. Good food at reasonable prices.

Currumbin Surf Club is a locals fave and just look at these views. We ate here on a weekend and it was crowded (it’s not the biggest of clubs) but that also shows its popularity and the food servings were large and tasty.

6. Rainbow Bay Surf Club

The Surf Club at Rainbow Bay sits on iconic Snapper Rocks which is a famous surf break and holds the annual Quiksilver Pro Surfing event. You’ll notice famous surfing memorabilia throughout the club.

Besides being super casual with great food (they have $10 meal deals throughout the week) the balcony provides one of the best sunset views on the Gold Coast all the way over to Surfers Paradise.

Not hungry? At least come here for a sunset drink!

7. Burleigh Beach Kiosk

We love the Burleigh Heads neighborhood and were staying in the caravan park just up the road from the Surf Club.

If you’re looking for a casual spot right on the beach for breakfast or lunch, grab a seat at the Kiosk downstairs.

The veggie burger was impressive, and forget about the food for a second, check out the view.

8. Southport Surf Club

Southport Surf Club or Surf Club Main Beach, has a great location right on Main Beach and the big deck allows you to make the most of the views.

Possibly the best food out of the surf clubs mentioned (my clam chowder was to die for) and it’s an easy stroll from Surfers Paradise if you’re staying in this end of town.

9. Il Barocco Restaurant, Imperial Hotel

We went on a date night at the Versace Hotel, now known as The Imperial Hotel. It had been a long time since Caz and I had been on a date night, and thanks to my parents being in town they had the kids sleep over at their apartment, we could wine and dine at the Il Barocco Restaurant .

We started with a sunset drink over the broadwater followed by dinner in the chic and elegant dining room.

We had a 3 course meal deal from the a la carte menu, but they also have a seafood buffet with some of the freshest seafood in Goldie, and it’s this that diners come for.

Of course it was stylish and contemporary, not the typical place you’d go to with your kids, but if you’re looking for somewhere for a special occasion, consider a table here.

10. Sandbar Surfers Paradise

If you’re looking for a weekend brunch spot, don’t miss Sandbar Surfers Paradise , a family-friendly, tavern style restaurant serving pub food and excellent craft beers.

Not only do they have the largest selection of Gold Coast beers, but they also have a menu for “little nippers” featuring pizzas, burgers, kid’s sized pasta, and horray, chicken nuggets!

They have a relaxed atmosphere with a beachy theme, and you can dine outside on a warm day.

11. Vapiano Soul Boardwalk

We didn’t go here seeking a meal, but a drink, but we know that Vapiano Soul Boardwalk is the place to go for great deep dish pizza and tapas.

Vapiano Soul Boardwalk was first recommended by one of our readers as a great place for Italian food in Surfers, and it doesn’t disappoint.

So we went, and we keep coming back. The pizzas are made fresh to order and they also have gluten-free pasta and crust, and they can also make many options plant-based.

The house-made tomato sauce on the pizza and the garlic bread are next level!

12. BSKT Café

We stumbled upon BSKT Café  (short for Biscuit) in Nobby’s Beach on our walk from Burleigh to Surfers Paradise.

It’s one of the few cafes that has stood the test of time, having been founded in 2013 and is still as popular today as it was over 10 years ago.

Upstairs is a yoga studio, but downstairs they serve up healthy produce, most of it gluten and dairy free, and good coffee!

13. Any Beach for a BBQ or Picnic

The Gold Coast really looks after it’s public spaces and provides free BBQ’s, great kids playgrounds and nice grass areas at most of its beaches.

Grab some supplies for a BBQ or picnic and have a budget friendly get together.

14. Ze Pickle

When it comes to burgers, the place to go is Ze Pickle , which has some of the tastiest burgers in the whole East Coast.

They opened in 2012 and is run by three locals, who wanted to offer something unpretentious and fun, where you can enjoy a craft beer, good company, and a mouth-watering burger.

Well they succeeded in that front! Whether you want a veggie burger or a fully loaded meat-filled bun, everyone in the family will enjoy these tasty treats!

15. T he Village Markets

You can never go wrong with a trip to The Village Markets , held on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month in Burleigh Heads.

They have been operating since 2008, and showcase some of the best and most creative small businesses and franchise in the area.

It’s not only a great place to pick up fresh, local food but also teach your kids about the importance of supporting small, indie businesses.

You can also find a variety of food trucks serving up street food classics, such as the ever popular gyoza dumplings.

16. The Organic Farmers Market

It doesn’t get fresher than The Organic Farmers Market in Miami, which has a “picked yesterday” promise on its fruit and veg produce.

Operating from 6:00am to 11:30am every Sunday from Merrimac State High School, this is the place to go for the freshest, farm to store, organically grown produce.

17. Rick Shores

You won’t find a restaurant with more accolades than Rick Shores in the Gold Coast.

With chef’s hats in the Australian Good Food Guide in both 2018 and 2019, in both food and wine categories, there is something to quench every appetite on Rich Shores menu.

The menu is serves up pan-asian cuisine for an affordable price, and they also have a set menu for those who can’t choose between dishes on the a la carte menu!

Despite its reputation as being one of the best Gold coast restaurants, it has a great atmosphere that feels relaxed and tranquil. It also has amazing ocean views.

18. Hurricane’s Grill & Bar Surfers Paradise

If you’re looking for a brilliant steakhouse in the Gold Coast, you will love the steak frites and pies at Hurricane’s Grill & Bar Surfers Paradise .

Featuring a contemporary interior with hanging lightbulbs and rustic wood furnishings, it feels relaxed and comfortable, and the perfect setting to enjoy views of the ocean.

Adults will love the selection of BBQ meats and burgers. A favorite on the menu is the char-grilled octopus or the grilled prawns.

The kids menu has fried chicken strips and chips, pasta, burger, or fish and chips.
