Trip (Japanese: シューティー Shooti) is a male character from the series, Pokémon: Black & White. He has a non-friendly rivalry with Ash, meaning they hate each other both on and off the battlefield. While traveling to take on the Unova League, Trip enjoys taking photographs of Pokémon that he sees and he is known to be a Pokémon Photographer. Trip has been shown to care for his Pokémon, despite not being the most caring Trainer, but is quite obnoxious, much like Gary Oak . The main reason he has taken a dislike to Ash is because of his training style and the fact that he is from Kanto. He seems to dislike Ash more than Gary does but less than Paul does, as he often teases Ash about losing. However, before running into Alder, they are shown to have at least some respect for each other. Trip is bound to learn that becoming the champion does not depend on just becoming strong. His goals are to become the champion and to crush Ash's dream of becoming a Pokemon Master.

Trip does not like the Kanto region- or anyone from there. He thinks of anyone from Kanto as one who knows nothing about Pokemon. He considers Ash to be a hillbilly who should go back to the basics of Pokemon. He is prejudice against Ash because of this.

Biography [ ]

Trip made his first appearance in " In The Shadow of Zekrom! " where he was a beginning trainer shown choosing his first Pokémon. Ash was friendly to him at first. He eventually chooses Snivy and wants to battle Ash's Pikachu because of it not being able to be found in his region. Although because of Zekrom, Pikachu's power is weakened and is unable to use Electric type of moves causing it to be defeated. Trip tells Ash to "go back to the basics" as a dis, and leaves to Accumula Town.

Trip later reappears in " A Rival Battle for Club Champ! " where he was at the local Battle club and Ash challenges him to a 5-on-5 battle.Trip comes out victorious where his Tranquill easily defeats Oshawott and Tepig, Servine defeats Pikachu, and his Frillish beats Pidove and Snivy. It was revealed that he used Servine to defeat Chili's Pansear at the Striaton Gym for his Trio Badge. He then later states that Pikachu and Snivy are improving well, but the rest of his team members are "a joke".

Trip shows up again in " A Venipede Stampede! ," where he is using his new Lampent in an attempt to destroy a swarm of Venipede, teaming up with other Fire-Type trainers. After destroying too many of them, Ash tries to stop Trip. Trip pretends to agree, but tells Lampent to kill the leader of the Venipede with Shadow Ball. Ash jumps in the way and gets injured, then says they should move them out of the way. Trip first refuses. He finally agrees, and they clear out the Venipede with their Tranquills. Trip later leaves, jokingly saying he'll battle Ash again once he's worthy.

He reappears in " Ash and Trip's Third Battle! " where he attempts to catch what would become Ash's Palpitoad, but Ash falls of a cliff, gets hit by Trip's PokeBall and scares Palpitoad away. Trip is furious, but they decide to just battle before things got out of hand, and Trip challenges him to a 3-on-3 battle using his Servine, Vanillite, and Timburr. Despite their tough battling styles, it resulted in a tie between the two adversaries. Trip walks away and Ash says bye to him, of course with no response.

He returns in " Reunion Battles In Nimbasa! " where he competes in the Club Battle tournament in Nimbasa Town where he was up against Cilan in the first round.

His battle begins with Cilan in " Cilan Versus Trip, Ash Versus Georgia! " where his newly evolved Gurdurr is defeated by Cilan's Dwebble. He takes a picture of Cilan, saying it was to remember his anger frustration, proving he takes losses harder and dwells on them, as well as this possibly being his first loss ever. After healing his Gurdurr, he leaves and moves on to the next city.

Trip reappeared in " Ash Versus The Champion " where he watched the battle between his rival Ash and his role model Alder , the Champion of the Unova League. He left when Alder refused to battle him by saying "Maybe next time."

Trip reappeared in "The Clubsplosion Begins!" where he bumped into Ash and co. when entering the Donamite with his Conkeldurr. His first round opponent was revealed to be Bianca, whom he didn't consider a threat.

He began his battle against Bianca and her Emboar in " Search for the Clubultimate! " but lost in the next episode despite putting up a strong fight.

Pokémon [ ]

Besides his Servine, Trip has gained these Pokemon through unknown events and are a close resemblance to Ash's; has obtained the same Flying -type Pokemon, two different Water- and Fire-types, an Ice-type, and a different Figting-type, but is still unknown if he has caught other Pokémon than his current team.

An image of Ash holding up a giant trophy in the Pokémon anime. Pikachu is sitting on his shoulder and they’re both smiling.

After 25 years of adventures, Ash and Pikachu’s time together is about to come to an end. The duo, who have long starred in the anime based on the popular video games, set out with the ultimate goal to become the very best. Now, the two have finally accomplished that goal by winning a world championship in an episode of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series in late 2022. That winter, The Pokémon Company International announced that Ash and Pikachu’s journey would be coming to an end, and a new set of heroes would take up the mantle.

It’s a bittersweet transition and the beginning of a new chapter of Pokémon. To reflect on Ash’s journey and legacy, Polygon interviewed Sarah Natochenny, the English voice actor for Ash since 2006. We talked about Ash, his influence on the fandom, and how difficult it is to say goodbye to the two faces of one of the world’s most popular franchises.

It’s now hard to think about Pokémon without thinking about Ash Ketchum, but he started as an unlikely protagonist. On his very first day as a trainer, he overslept and missed the chance to get one of the three original starter Pokémon. Instead, he got saddled with a bullheaded Pikachu that refused to go inside its Poké Ball. What distinguished him then wasn’t any sort of talent, but a stubborn dedication to his relationship with his Pokémon and a love of adventure. He was a trainer who put his life on the line time and time again to protect his Pokémon pals.

This rambunctious spirit inspired Natochenny, who used to be more reserved and introverted but eventually came out of her shell after playing Ash.

“Playing a string of protagonists, starting with Ash, had proven to me that my innermost being is an outgoing, adventurous person who screams a lot — I literally found about 200 video clips of me screaming for my 2022 recap video. I’m so grateful I decided to become an actor, because I may not have discovered that side of me otherwise. Ash never gave up on his greatest passion, and neither will I. To be clear, the passion is acting, not screaming.”

An image of Ash, Goh, and another character leaning over and looking curiously at a phone.

Ash Ketchum, whose name is a pun based on the act of catching Pokémon, has long been the stuff of internet jokes. He famously did not age, and his Pikachu appeared to reset levels more or less after traveling from region to region. Even when I watched the show as a child, the idea of Ash’s Pikachu being challenged by a low-level gym leader in a new region seemed outlandish. Because of this constant reset, Natochenny didn’t think Ash or Pikachu would ever exit the series. “I didn’t imagine a series without Ash, Pikachu, and Team Rocket,” she said.

Of course, despite aging — or, to be honest, making progress toward his goal — Ash eventually reached it. When he won the world championship in the anime, many online fans celebrated it as if it were a real-life achievement . To fans he served as a reminder that sometimes achieving your goals takes way longer than you might expect, and not giving up is perhaps the most important part of that journey. Ash taught Natochenny “to stay optimistic and remember that there’s always a way to get where you’re going without intentionally hurting people along the way,” she said.

Ash isn’t a real person, so he doesn’t have to change or retire. He could live as a 10-year-old for several more decades , perfectly preserved in animation. I asked Natochenny why she thought big life changes, even in fictional worlds, felt important.

“Everyone experiences change and discomfort in their lifetime to some degree,” she said. “But sometimes, stagnation is uncomfortable, and change is welcome. I think people generally find comfort in cartoons, so watching them go through transitions can help us go through our own in healthier ways.”

Pokémon Concierge: how to watch, trailer, voice cast and more

Pokémon Concierge is an adorable Netflix stop-motion animated series.

A Psyduck snuggles up to Haru in Pokémon Concierge.

Pokémon Concierge is a fun-filled getaway that's now arrived on Netflix .

The stop-motion animated series is the first-ever collaboration between The Pokémon Company and Netflix, and it sees us traveling to an unseen part of the Pokémon world. Instead of following a Pokémon trainer like Ash Ketchum, Pokémon Concierge sees us jetting off to the Pokémon Resort.

There, we're introduced to Haru, a concierge at the complex who is so thrilled to be leaving the hustle and bustle of the real world behind and helping the critters (and their owners!) get some much-needed rest and relaxation.

Netflix is home to loads of great animated series including Arcane, Castlevania: Nocturne and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off , and Pokémon Concierge definitely fits into this impressive library. And luckily, Netflix has confirmed that more episodes are in the works!

If you're planning to take a trip to the Pokémon Resort, here's everything you need to know about Pokémon Concierge.

Pokémon Concierge release date & how to watch

All four episodes of Pokémon Concierge are now available to stream on Netflix. The series premiere on Thursday, December 28, 2023.

If you're looking for more animated shows to enjoy, check out our picks for the best anime series on Netflix we think you should be streaming right now.

How many episodes of Pokémon Concierge are there?

Pokémon Concierge is comprised of 4 episodes, each of which is between 14 and 20 minutes long.

What is Pokémon Concierge about?

A still from Pokémon Concierge featuring a stop-motion young boy and a Pikachu

Pokémon Concierge is an unorthodox miniseries all about the loveable monsters and sees Haru, a new worker, joining the staff at the Pokémon resort, where she works hard to care for the iconic creatures and their owners. As every trailer has revealed, there are bound to be mishaps along the way!

The full synopsis from the Pokémon website reads: " Pokémon Concierge  follows the exploits of Haru, a new concierge at the resort, the Psyduck she works with, and their interactions with the Pokémon and their Trainers who visit as guests. The series is animated by the Japanese production company dwarf studios, whose work can also be seen in the Netflix series  Rilakkuma and Kaoru . Their charming style is a perfect fit for the world of Pokémon."

Pokémon Concierge voice cast

Haru looking panicked in Pokémon Concierge.

Netflix revealed bot the Japanese and English voice cast for Pokémon Concierge ahead of the series' premiere. The English voice actors are:

  • Karen Fukuhara ( The Boy and the Heron )
  • Imani Hakim ( Everybody Hates Chris )
  • Josh Keaton ( Voltron: Legendary Defender ) as Tyler
  • Lori Alan ( Spongebob SquarePants ) as Watanabe

Meanwhile, the Japanese Pokémon Concierge voice cast includes:

  • Non ( In This Corner of the World ) as Haru
  • Farious Ai ( JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean ) as Alisa
  • Eita Okuno ( Yell ) as Tyler
  • Yoshiko Takemura ( Tiger & Bunny ) as Watanabe

Is there a Pokémon Concierge trailer?

Yes! The trailer for Pokémon Concierge makes the series look like a perfect getaway. Beginning with Haru arriving at the resort, we then get to see a snapshot of her working alongside some of the adorable Pokémon models... and the mishaps that ensue.

In early 2023, Netflix also released a teaser trailer introducing the conceit of the show, and showing off a thoughtful-looking Psyduck wandering along the beachfront.

Is Pokémon Concierge real stop-motion animation?

Yes, Pokémon Concierge is a real stop-motion project. As we mentioned, Netflix has partnered with the acclaimed dwarf studios in Japan to create the show.

If you'd like a closer look at how Pokémon Concierge was brought to life, Haru's voice actor, Non, paid a visit to dwarf herself. It gives a behind-the-scenes look at some of the sets and, crucially, the adorable Pokémon models and sets the studio has built for the show.

Whilst there, Non chats with director Iku Ogawa, who revealed that they'd filmed some of her facial expressions as reference footage to bring them across to her character. Check it out here:

What else is there to know about Pokémon Concierge?

The other thing to note about Pokémon Concierge is that the theme song, "Have a Good Time Here", has been performed by the legendary Japanese singer, Mariya Takeuchi.

Is Pokémon Concierge getting a second season?

Yes! Netflix confirmed that more episodes of Pokémon Concierge are in production on February 19, 2024.

Both the streamer and the official Pokémon account tweeted that new episodes of the charming series were in production, along with an adorable poster of Haru turning her own hand to stop-motion animation, with her Pokémon sidekick right by her side.

Sadly, the announcement didn't confirm how many more episodes we'd be getting; here's hoping the new series is longer than the first!

It’s season finale time for networks, but Netflix , naturally, still has plenty of brand new TV and shows coming in May.

Additionally, comedy fans can get excited for a new special series from John Mulaney . The comedian is hosting a multi-night event, “John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA,” that looks to be part interview show and part man-on-the-street hijinks. (Real Mulaney freaks can also check out his installment of David Letterman’s “My Next Guest,” which will premiere April 30 on the platform.)

Top Pick for May 2024: “Bridgerton” Season 3 — Part 1

Romance lovers, our long national nightmare is over: “ Bridgerton ” returns with its third season on Netflix, premiering May 16. This time around, Penelope (Nicola Coughlan) will try her hand at love, though expect many complications. Season 2 ended with her best friend Eloise (Claudia Jessie) realizing that Penelope is the mysterious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown and that Lady Whistledown has been trying to ruin her life. Talk about awkward. Meanwhile, everyone else — including a returning(!) Jonathan Bailey, who plays Anthony — are dealing with their own love life problems. Will everyone live happily ever after? Fans will actually have to wait until “Part 2” premieres in June to know for sure, but…come on. Come for the bodice ripping, stay for whatever spectacular wig Queen Charlotte tries next.

Trip's snivy

As Snivy with his Trainer during his first battle with Ash.

Snivy, who was one of Professor Juniper 's starters to be distributed to the beginner trainers in Unova , was chosen by Trip. After Trip received his Poké Balls and Pokédex , Ash challenged him to a battle. Trip accepted and sent out his Snivy. Pikachu used Quick Attack , hitting Snivy, and dodging its Tackle attack. Pikachu attempted to use Thunderbolt and Volt Tackle but was unable to, since he got struck by Zekrom 's lighting, causing its electric-type moves not to work. After Snivy tackled Pikachu and evaded his Iron Tail attack, Snivy launched Leaf Tornado , which bashed Pikachu on the ground and defeated him. [2]

As he set off on the Unova journey, Ash was reminded he could run into Trip and Snivy, while going to Striaton City. [3]

As Servine [ ]

BW010 13

Ash's Snivy hits Serperior as Servine, who is infatuated, with Vine Whip.

Trip sent his newly evolved Servine in his second battle with Ash at the Don Battle Club. Servine managed to use Cut to negate Pikachu's Iron Tail. The former uses Leaf Tornado to damage the latter. Pikachu uses Volt Tackle, but Servine intercepted it with Cut, knocking out Pikachu with the attack. Ash sent Snivy who started off with Vine Whip and Leaf Blade but missed. Instead, Servine's Leaf Tornado wounded Snivy, who retaliated and missed again using Vine Whip. Fortunately for Snivy, Servine got affected by her Attract and was easily defeated by Vine Whip and Leaf Blade combination. [4]

Servine battled Snivy again, during Ash and Trip's third battle. Servine fired a Leaf Tornado, which got countered by Snivy's Leaf Storm . Servine used Cut, but missed, then countered Snivy's Attract with Leaf Tornado. To wrap the battle up, Servine used Cut, negating Snivy's Leaf Blade and defeating her. [5]

As Serperior [ ]

BW093 17

Serperior's elusiveness allows it to dodge Crustle's Rock Slide.

During the Junior Cup Tournament, Trip sent Serperior, who evolved from Servine, against Burgundy's Darmanitan. Despite the type advantage, Darmanitan lost after being hit by  Serperior 's Leer and Solar Beam  combination before it could make a single move. [6] Serperior repeated this combination to win against Manning's Heatmor . Trip then faced Cilan , who sent  Crustle. Serperior leered Crustle, who hid in its rock. Serperior launched Solar Beam, which hit Crustle, but it managed to withstand the attack and retaliate with X-Scissor . Serperior evaded the attack, including Crustle's Rock Slide , and defeated it with Frenzy Plant . [7]

BW094 11

Serperior launches Solar Beam on Pignite, defeating him.

In the finals, Serperior battled against Ash's Pignite . Pignite started off with Tackle but missed. Pignite tried to attack with Flame Charge and Flamethrower, but Serperior continued dodging the moves. Serperior counterattacked with Solar Beam and Dragon Tail but also missed. Pignite used Flame Charge, Tackle and Flamethrower , but Serperior continued avoiding the attacks. Serperior retaliated with Dragon Tail, but missed and dodged Pignite's Flame Charge. Halfway during the battle, Serperior used Leer, which Pignite dodged by jumping, but managed to inflict the first hit by using Solar Beam. Pignite counterattacked with Fire Pledge , but Serperior evaded the attack and defeated him with Frenzy Plant and did not suffer any damage during the battle. As the winner of the Junior Cup Tournament, Trip faced Alder in the battle. Trip sent Serperior, who launched a Solar Beam on Bouffalant. [8] Bouffalant took the attack, but Trip saw Bouffalant's ability was Sap Sipper . Alder just anticipated what Trip was offering, so Trip had Serperior use Dragon Tail on Bouffalant's belly. However, Alder reminded Trip he was the Champion and had Bouffalant use Head Charge, which defeated Serperior. [9]

BW106 8

Serperior has been defeated by Ash's Pikachu.

During the first round of the Unova League, Serperior battled his rival, Ash's Pikachu. After dodging Quick Attack, Iron Tail, and Electro Ball attacks, Serperior strikes with a mirage of Dragon Tail, which made Trip smile, for his strategy was working. [10] Serperior continued attacking and hit Pikachu with Energy Ball. Pikachu dodged Serperior's Dragon Tail attack, but Serperior continued attacking and wrapped Pikachu with his own tail. Pikachu used Thunderbolt, but Serperior placed his own tail to the ground, negating any damage Serperior received. Serperior attempted to slam Pikachu to the ground, who used Iron Tail and freed himself. Repeating the same move, Pikachu clashed with Serperior's Dragon Tail. To finish the battle, Pikachu used Iron Tail and Electro Ball at the same time, which defeated Serperior. [11]

While recalling his adventures, Ash remembered Trip and his Serperior. [12]

Trip and Serperior were seen in Best Wishes! ending theme. Trip continued his journey with Serperior and took some photos.

Known moves [ ]

  • As Serperior

Using Leer

  • It is likely that while Serperior's attack and speed stats are high, his defense and health stats are rather poor, as seen in both the battles he lost where it took only one hit from a move to defeat him. This may be why he's so evasive and always tries to dodge attacks.
