An Honest Review of Dynamic Gold X100 Shaft

The Dynamic Gold (DG) X100 has been widely used on the PGA Tour by some of the best players in the world, including Justin Thomas, Jordan Speith, and even Dustin Johnson, among a few others. It is a high-flex, tour-weight shaft designed for skilled players seeking a low, penetrating ball flight for optimum control and accuracy.

But does it have any benefit to offer the everyday golfer like you and me? I wanted to see for myself, so I decided to document how I handled the Dynamic Gold X100 and provide the relevant information about this shaft to help you decide.

Long story short, the Dynamic Gold X100 produces a low launch and a high kick point, creating a stronger appeal for better players with fast swing speeds and at least a moderate tempo. So, it offers a low, piercing trajectory.

Dynamic Gold X100 Shaft Review

The DG x100 shaft has a high weight, extreme stiffness, and low spin. For this reason, you will need a very high swing speed to use this shaft to its fullest potential. I figured that to enjoy the x100 truly, you need to be around tour level, swinging a seven iron above 90 mph.

But there’s more about this popular shaft that you should know before considering it. I encourage you to read to the end as I will review the performance and key features of this shaft to show you how it works:

X100 Shaft First Impression

I’m no stranger to the Dynamic Golf shafts. I’ve been playing S300 shafted irons , and while I rarely ever have a poor strike, my mishits occur because I tend to swing too hard, and the ball draws way more than I like, causing me to miss my target.

For context, according to Trackman (7i, 30.5*), my stats are 204 yds, carry of 198 yds, club speed of 96.2 mph, club path of 4.0 deg, and face angle of 2.0 degrees. I have a fast tempo and am pretty strong-built (5’11, 195 lbs).

My first encounter with or attention to the X100 was at a fitting exercise, and the instant verdict I made about the shaft was the weight. I had assumed the shaft would be lighter than 121 grams . Surprisingly, it doesn’t feel much heavier than other Dynamic Gold shafts I’ve tested, the S400, for example.

The initial positive impression is that I got great results with the high irons, and I saw impressive, unmatched consistency. However, I quickly noticed how atrocious my mishits with the x100 shaft were. For context, 8 to 10 out of 100 balls were complete shanks.

The bottom line is that they are pretty heavy shafts, so depending on what you are playing now, they could feel very different, and you may not get the same speed.

If you have a quick tempo, the x100 shafts could help keep you swinging smoothly.

It is normal to like the classic, high-quality shaft with its polished appearance and well-thought-out design. But performance-wise, it isn’t suitable for everyone.

This is ideal if you seek superior performance and reliability on the golf course .

Which is sturdier, the S300 or the X100?

The Dynamic Gold S300 shaft is slightly less stiff than the X100 shaft, although both poles share many similarities.

The X100 shaft is designed for golfers who prefer a stiffer and lower launching shaft, while the S300 offers a bit more flexibility and may provide a slightly higher ball flight.

Introduction

Every week, we here at PluggedInGolf get dozens of emails from equipment manufacturers touting the things that their equipment accomplished in professional golf.  Just as no one knows who will win our tour from week to week, we never know whether we’ll be getting emails from Callaway, TaylorMade, Nike, or someone else.  The one thing we can count on is an email from True Temper letting us know that their shafts were the most played, and, more often than not, the winner.

Why is Dynamic Gold the most prominent iron shaft on tour?  I’m glad you asked.

Stability and control.  Those are the two primary things you can expect from Dynamic Gold.  There’s a minimum of “life” in the shaft, just a subtle load and kick in the mid-butt section, no matter how hard you want to swing at it.  From knock down shots to 110% swings, Dynamic Gold is not going to give you any results that will surprise you.

In terms of balance, Dynamic Gold is fairly neutral.  It is neither tip heavy nor butt heavy.  It gives you adequate weight in your hands while still delivering plenty of feel for the club head.

Can you please do a review between the DG X100 vs S300 ? What is the difference in feels, ball flight, weight…

I don’t foresee us doing a review comparing the same shaft in different flexes. We have information about the effect of moving to a stiffer shaft in our Golf Myths Unplugged series.

Not sure between true temper dynamic gold S300 and KBS hi rev 2.0 stiff for my new wedges. Any insight? Are they worlds apart? Current shaft is dynamic golds in my cleveland tour action 900’s… P.S. i stink out of the Tee Box but wedge and iron play has always been my savior/strong suit. -Steve

Those are about as different as shafts can be. I would say that if your wedge play is good with Dynamic Gold, stick with that.

I have been fitted for amt black s300, is that similar to dynamic gold s 300?

But once you reach a certain point in the game, it can be really difficult to select a shaft that can keep up with your swing. To help you make the right choice, we compared the Dynamic Gold X100 and Dynamic Gold X7 shafts.

In fact, the Dynamic Gold X7 is the heaviest shaft in the Dynamic Gold line, checking in at 133 grams. When we tested the Dynamic Gold X7, we could also feel that it was the stiffest and strongest shaft in the Dynamic Gold line. It is available in extra stiff and generates a low, penetrating ball flight.

Dynamic Gold X100 Overview

“The Dynamic Gold X100 plays similarly to the X7 but is lighter.”

For most players, the Dynamic Gold X100 will be the perfect low spin, low launch shaft. It comes in extra stiff flex and weighs 130 grams so it’s a nice mix of lightweight design and strength. It has a high bend point and would be great for mid tempo swingers.

Key Differences

The main difference is in the diameter of these shafts. The Dynamic Gold X100 is .600” while the X7 is .610”. It doesn’t sound like much but the X7 greatly improves control when fast swing speed players load and unload the shaft. This will increase distance and accuracy for better players for sure.

Who Should Buy Each?

The Dynamic Gold X100 would be a good choice for low handicap players with swing speeds between 88 and 95 MPH.

The Dynamic Gold X7 is really only for scratch players and amateurs with 95+ MPH swing speeds.

Put simple: stiff. After your first swing, you can feel how incredibly stiff and strong this shaft is.

The Dynamic Gold X100 shaft is clearly for low handicap to scratch players.

Even our mid handicap testers had a bit of trouble loading the Dynamic Gold X100 for tight shot dispersion. But if you have a fast swing speed and at least a moderate tempo, you will love the distance and accuracy of this shaft.
