This tour gives you an amazing overview of what Bali has to offer, ranging from well organised excursions to amazing food options. Rio was an amazing guide, who couldn't do enough for us, going out of his way to plan additional activities for us. Everything was superbly organised but nothing felt rushed, compared to other tours this was laid back.

Andre is an absolute legend! You can really tell he cares not only about each person in the group but making sure everyone has a safe and amazing experience. He’s the type of person who becomes everyone best friend! Every trip will have its hiccups but Andre handles them like a pro- thanks for everything buddy!
Bali Intro 9 Days
We had a wonderful trip with our excellent tour guide Holly. She was great showing us around and being like a good friend. The tour is perfect for first time Bali visitors. In 9 days you visit most of the island like wonderful temples, rice terraces, beaches, surfing, snorkeling, a Bali family visit and a language session and in the evening there are wonderful sunsets and fun to go out.
Classic Bali
Well, I've been travelling to SE Asia every year for the last 8 years now, however never having never arranged a trip with Tourradar/GAdventures before, I was a little apprehensive, knowing nothing about my fellow travellers or how things would turn out. I needn't have worried, this was by far the best adventure holiday I've ever taken! We were all ages and from a variety of countries and everything just fitted together in such an easy way. I have to say that this was not least due to the incredible Barry, our fabulous guide from Lombok. He was just The Best!! Barry just made everything go so smoothly, in such a wonderfully happy easygoing way. He made everyone feel that they were free to make choices and enabled those choices with seamless effort. His smile never left his face, and his knowledge, knowhow and video skills were second to none. He was just amazing! Thank you Barry!
Wanderlands Bali & Lombok - 13 Days
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the trip! Our travel group felt like a little family, and our tour guide was exceptionally kind and funny. I wished we could have gone out to party more often and stayed longer at some of the activities. Despite being sick for three days, it was still a fantastic experience!

Bali One Life Adventures - 12 Days
It was incredible. So many everlasting memories including snorkeling at one of the most mesmerizing reefs, learning about the culture and seeing a lot of different places within those 12 days.
Bali Intro 12 Day
Overall the trip was good, however a few things I think could be improved was the unethical dolphin spotting boat trip - the boats were chasing the dolphins and almost hit them it made me upset and others on the boat agreed and asked to go back. The surfing was a great experience however the group wasn’t aware if we swallow the sea water or it goes up your nose it can make you very poorly, around 5/6 people were sent to the clinic after the surfing. Next time, a warning of this may be appreciated. The tour guide was very good at handling with the medical emergencies and everyone eventually felt better.
Komodo Island Hopper
Josh is an amazing tour guide. We started the tour midway through after everyone had already made friends, Josh made sure we felt welcomed and part of the family every single step of the way. Never fearing looking silly, he would dance with us and sing Indian songs to make us feel like we had a truly personal experience. He was incredibly supportive, helpful and always there to ensure our safety. I enjoyed the trip so much more thanks to Josh being the tour guide. I'd recommend him to friends. I feel I thoroughly saw things about the country that I wouldn't have seen otherwise and am truly grateful for the experience he provided.
Best of Java
aggressive itinerary. Was able to experience all of Java.
Discover Lombok
Discover Lombok was a fabulous tour. Fascinating island not overrun with tourists. Local guide Ell was great, being from Lombok himself his knowledge/local insights were amazing and really added to the trip. The quiet east coast was stunning. Highly recommend this trip!
Bali 9 Day/ 8 Night Group Tour | ULTIMATE
Best tour ever! Great itinerary, great activities, although I think you can cut a day from Kuta and add one day to Gili Our guide, Aggy, was more than we could expect! She was always taking care of us, happy to answer all our questions about the tour, about the Indonesian culture and she told us so many interesting things about Balinese people that we couldn't knew otherways, always with a sweet smile on her face. She was always there for us whenever we needed her, although she had a different accommodation than us, which I don't approve... the tour guide should definitely have the same accommodation. She was very caring and open, she made sure that we have the best time in Bali but never forgot to remember us to stay safe and remember us what we should or shouldn't do.
- $40 deposit on some dates Some departure dates offer you the chance to book this tour with a lower deposit.
7 Days Bali and Gili Islands Epic Experience
Every aspect of the tour (hotel bookings, transportation, activities) went flawlessly. Communication both prior to the trip and during the trip were was great. Our tour guide and our driver were extremely friendly and concerned with the group’s comfort and wellbeing. We all had a great time!
10 Days The Best of Bali, Gilis and Nusa Penida Island Experience
Great trip, got to see heaps of beautiful places and interesting things that would have been otherwise tricky to organise and plan as a solo traveller. Our driver and guide were absolutely fantastic, endlessly cheerful and full of great information. Definitely recommend this trip if you want to kick back and relax and not have to worry about anything while still seeing the sights of Bali, Nusa Penida and the Gilis.
What people love about Indonesia Tours
I loved my wanderlands tour, it gave me so many amazing experiences and helped me connect with myself in a deeper way. I was in a spot in life where I needed something to change. I’m so lucky to have had my group leader as Stacia. She was so welcoming and since she’s a local, it gave a more authentic feel to Bali and the culture around it. I loved learning from her and having her guide me through this tour! She made me feel comfortable, safe and excited for our next day! I really appreciated how organized and on time she kept our group. The itinerary kept me busy and happy! I loved the events like snorkelling and hikes. I was also able to connect with myself on a more spiritual level too, Bali is the place for that. ❤️ One of my best friends came on the tour before me and told me it was a MUST and that booking my tour with Stacia, was also a MUST. He was definitely right and I agree with him completely! The group members are also amazing, being with like minded people and people who are close to my age. The hostels were all great and the food hasn’t let me down!
My experience with Bali Bucket List was simply outstanding! From snorkelling with turtles to (trying to) catch waves while surfing, every moment was filled with excitement. Hiking up Mt. Batur for sunrise was a highlight I will never forget. What made our trip even more special was our incredible local guide Alex. His depth of knowledge about the area, coupled with his warm personality and endless patience, truly enhanced the groups experience massively. If you're looking for an unforgettable adventure in Bali, look no further than Bali Bucket List. Highly recommended for an incredible journey filled with fun, beauty, and amazing memories!
The tour guide were all very helpful, good and go out of their way to make our journey fun n amazing. I will book all my trips n recommend to all my friends your companies excellent service. Iam very please to the iteniraries n the hotel we stayed in. Thank u very much to make my holiday more enjoyable ?

Indonesia Tours & Vacations
If you thought Indonesia was all big resorts and Bintang, it might be time to check your atlas.
Because there isn’t really just one Indonesia ... not when you’re an archipelago made up of 17,000 individual islands (only 8,000 of which have ever seen a human footprint). One minute you’re spotting orangutans in the jungles of Sumatra, the next you’re chowing down on an organic acai bowl in Ubud. You could be hiking the slopes of Mt Batur or kicking back on the sugar-white beaches of Gili Air (preferably holding a delicious tropical cocktail). Whether you’re looking for party, peace or paradise, the odds are good we’ve got an Indonesia tour that fits the bill.

Learn more about Indonesia
Best time to visit indonesia.
Indonesia’s close proximity to the equator ensures consistently hot and humid weather in all seasons; however, its tropical climate means many areas are prone to periods of heavy rainfall. The wet season normally takes place from October to April and flooding can make the roads difficult to travel at times.
Popular vacation spots like Bali tend to receive large crowds during Christmas and school holidays but are significantly less crowded in shoulder seasons. Also worth keeping in mind are Indonesia’s various religious holidays. With a large population of practicing Muslims, Ramadan results in the closure of many services, so expect a quieter experience when traveling during Ramadan.

Geography and environment
An archipelago of over 17,000 islands, Indonesia works its way across several oceans, beginning with the island of Sumatra in the West and stretching to Irian Jaya in the East. In between, Indonesia includes a sizeable part of Borneo, as well as larger islands such as Java, Bali and Sulawesi. With such a broad selection of islands, Indonesia encompasses a variety of landscapes such as: thick tropical jungle, fertile rice fields, grasslands and volcanic mountain ranges. Indonesia’s ecosystems are full of a rich variety of flora and fauna including the very rare Sumatran tiger and elephant, the Javan rhino and the fierce Komodo Dragon. Indonesia is also famous for its incredible beaches and marine life. With thousands of kilometers of reefs, beaches, bays and lagoons, Indonesia is a diver's paradise.
Top 10 creatures of Indonesia
1. sumatran rhino.
Appearing almost prehistoric, the Sumatran rhino is smaller in both size and number than its African cousins. Covered in a reddish brown fur, the Sumatran rhino is a solitary animal, and has been quietly grazing the grasslands for thousands of years.
2. Sulawesi Giant Squirrel
Living deep within Sulawesi’s rainforest canopies, this enigmatic and shy rodent can be tough to spot, so stay quiet and alert if you want to catch a glimpse of one.
3. Sun Bear
A perennial favorite, the sun bear can be found on many of Indonesia’s islands. Perhaps suffering from ‘small bear syndrome’, these fiery characters are often quite aggressive, defying their nickname as the ‘Honey Bear’.
4. Sulawesi Macaque
Native to the island of Sulawesi, these crafty primates are known for being exceptionally social creatures. With family groups usually led by dominant females, Sulawesi macaques are a prime example of 'girl power' in action.
5. Sumatran Tiger
A noble predator with an almost mythical status, the Sumatran tiger stalks its prey deep within the jungles of Sumatra. With some estimates putting their numbers at just over 300, an international effort is underway to protect this incredible animal.
6. Javan Slow Loris
Slow in name, slow in nature. Don’t be fooled though, this super-cute creature packs a deadly punch – it is the world's only poisonous primate!
7. Long-Beaked Echidna
Inhabiting the island of New Guinea, this crazy critter snuffles about the forest floor using its large snout. Don’t expect to see many of these guys though; they are classified as ‘critically endangered’.
8. Komodo Dragon
The fearsome Komodo Dragon is the world’s largest lizard, often weighing up to 70 kilograms. Described as the ‘perfect predator’, this stealthy beast makes for an exhilarating sight.
9. Moluccan Flying Snake
Scared of snakes? Now you'll have to search the ground and the air as these aerodynamic reptiles have found a novel way to move between the treetops, by becoming airborne and gliding for up to 30 meters.
10. Babirusa
What do you get when you cross a pig and a deer? The odd looking Babirusa: a short and stocky animal with large, curled horns. Native to Indonesia, populations of these bizarre beasts are sadly in decline due to poaching and habitat loss.

Local culture.
The culture of Indonesia is diverse and varied across the approximately 6,000 inhabited islands. There are over 300 different languages spoken across the islands, however most people can speak Bahasa Indonesian. Despite the diversity, Indonesian tends to have a strong cultural bond, with the national slogan meaning Unity in Diversity. Religion is a big contributor to cultural identity in Indonesia, with everyone needing to have an official religion, which will be listed on their national identification card. Generally speaking, you can only marry people of the same religion as you. The majority of the population are Muslim and, but Christianity, Catholicism, Hinduism and Buddhism are also practiced.
Food and drink
Here are some of the most popular foods and drinks you should try in Indonesia.
Satay is delicious skewered meat (often chicken), which is cooked over hot coals, covered in a spicy peanut sauce. Vegetarians can also try this sauce on rice cakes called ketupat. Satay is a great meal to eat on the run or equally good as part of a feast in a restaurant.
Beef rendang
Similar to a beef curry (although with less sauce and a richer flavor), Beef Rendang is a spicy dish that is traditionally served at special festive events like weddings. However, travelers will be able to sample this dish all over Indonesia.
Nasi Goreng
Indonesian fried rice known as Nasi Goreng is Indonesia’s national dish for good reason. This famous meal is eaten all over the world in many different formats, but what makes Indonesia’s rendition particularly special is the darkness of the rice, thanks to the use of thick, sweet soy sauce known as kecap manis.
These steamed fish dumplings served in peanut sauce are Indonesia’s answer to dim sum. The cone shaped packages can be made with a variety of fish including tuna, mackerel and even prawn. They’re a popular street food and can be found at many streetside stalls and restaurants.
Nasi uduk translates to mixed rice, and is a dish of rice cooked in coconut milk mixed with various herbs and spices. It is normally served with some sort of meat dish or curry.
Tea and coffee
Tea and coffee are the most common and popular beverages in Indonesia. They are often served sweeter than you may be used to drinking at home.
For most travelers, shopping in Indonesia will be very affordable, with opportunities to purchase authentic arts and crafts, including traditional batik clothing, woodcarvings, pottery and other unusual items. On bigger islands like Bali and Java, you will be spoiled for choice when it comes to shopping opportunities. Tourist centers can be worthwhile if you are looking to buy handcrafted items like puppets, leatherworks and batik. Otherwise, explore local markets for clothing, shoes, antiques and other items.
At most markets, bargaining is encouraged. If you want more information about haggling in Asia, check out this blog .
Festivals and events
There are many different religious and cultural celebrations in Indonesia, but some of the key public holidays include:
- Galungan dan Kuningan: celebrating the victory of light over darkness, when ancestors visit their relatives on earth.
- Kartini Day: the birthday of national heroine, Raden Ayu Kartini, who fought for women’s education rights.
- National Awakening Day: celebrates the coming together of people from the 17,000 islands of Indonesia as a national identity.
- National Batik Day: celebrates the traditional batik clothing and is commemorated in October on the day when UNESCO first acknowledged batik as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage in 2009.
Top islands to visit in Indonesia
Bali might be known for its Instagrammable smoothies and rice paddies, but there is so much more to this island paradise than meets the eye. The mountain areas are second to none, the waterfalls are stunning and the beaches are iconic. Ubud is a yogi paradise, while a sunrise climb to Mt. Batur is perfect for hikers looking for a challenge.
Whether you're looking to hike and cycle or relax on the beach and in hot springs, we've got a Bali tour that'll tick all the boxes.
Learn about the unique Sasak culture on Lombok from the food, arts and crafts and farming. The secluded beaches are less visited than their Balinese neighbor, but no less beautiful. If your visit is over a weekend, you may also be able to witness a traditional wedding to experience the local customs, dress and feasting.
Explore both of these neighboring islands on our 15 day Bali & Lombok Adventure.
Komodo and Flores
There is only one place on earth to see the legendary Komodo Dragons in the wild, and that is Komodo National Park. Two of the more notable islands that make up the park are Komodo and Flores, both of which are great places to catch a glimpse of these famous reptiles.
Located in the Indonesian section of Borneo, exploring the jungle is an experience you’ll never forget. Keep an eye out for orangutans, meet with friendly locals and learn about how they work to conserve the wildlife in this largely untouched slice of paradise.
Join the adventure of a (wild)lifetime on our 12 day Indonesia Expedition: Orangutans of Kalimantan.

Is Indonesia accessible for travelers with disabilities?
Intrepid is committed to making travel widely accessible , regardless of ability or disability. That’s why we do our best to help as many people see the world as possible, regardless of any physical or mental limitations they might have. We’re always happy to talk to travelers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them towards the most suitable itinerary for their needs and where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.
Indonesia can be a difficult destination for travelers with disabilities because pavements are uneven and steps are frequent, paving is poorly maintained and footpaths are usually obstructed with parked vehicles, street stalls and debris. Accessible public toilets are rare other than in big modern shopping malls. Wheelchair accessible vehicles are available only through specialist tour operators, but cars and drivers can be hired readily and are good value. Local guides are easy to find in tourist areas. Bali has a wider range of tourism services and more developed facilities, including some accessible accommodation options. Some sights such as Borobudur and Prambanan in Yogyakarta are partially wheelchair accessible. Visitors generally find that Indonesians are very welcoming and willing to help those with access needs. The Asian Para Games took place in Jakarta in 2018 and have helped raise the profile of people with disabilities in the country as well as give new direction for making facilities more accessible in the capital.
Is Indonesia safe for LGBTQIA+ travelers?
Everyone should feel comfortable when they travel with Intrepid and we know that many of our travelers are part of the LGBTQIA+ community. It’s important for our travelers to be aware of the local laws and customs in the destinations we visit as some countries have laws that discriminate against LGBTQIA+ people. We recommend you visit Equaldex and/or Smartraveller before you choose your trip for up-to-date advice and information about LGBTQIA+ related laws.
Homosexuality is not currently illegal in Indonesia, other than in Aceh province (which is governed by Islamic law), however the LGBTQIA+ community has routinely been targeted and harassed by police.
Revisions to Indonesia’s criminal code that would allow prison sentences of up to five years for sex between unmarried people are being considered by parliament. These changes would criminalize same-sex relationships and advocacy groups are fearing a profound setback to human rights in Indonesia as a result.
A predominantly Muslim country, Islamic organisations have increasingly been pressuring the government on moral issues and in the past few years politicians and public figures have frequently been using anti-LGBTQIA+ rhetoric as a means to win votes. Gay dating apps and media portraying LGBTQIA+ behaviour as “normal” have been banned. Same-sex marriage, civil partnerships, and adoption are all illegal, and the lack of anti-discrimination laws means that attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community in Indonesia regularly go unpunished.
There are few gay-friendly venues outside of Bali. Because sex in general is a taboo subject in Indonesian society, the issue of sexuality is unlikely to arise while traveling here. The majority of the country is safe for LGBTQIA+ travelers, provided you are willing to be discreet and cautious with public behaviour. Bali, with its Hindu majority, has always been more liberal, tolerant and relaxed in attitude, however public displays of affection are still not the norm for any couples anywhere in the country. Upscale hotels will likely not have any issues with same-sex travelers sharing a bed, however at budget or family-run businesses if you are allocated separate beds you might feel more comfortable not to draw attention to your relationship.

Does my trip to Indonesia support The Intrepid Foundation?
Yes, all Intrepid trips support the Intrepid Foundation. In fact, we make a donation on behalf of every traveler. Trips to Indonesia directly support our foundation partner, Coral Triangle Center Foundation.
Coral Triangle Center Foundation
The Coral Triangle Center is on a mission to restore coastal and marine ecosystems in Indonesia through training and education. Over the last several years, coral reefs along the northern coast of Nusa Penida have suffered from widespread mortality due to irresponsible marine tourism, disease, coral bleaching, tropical storms and water pollution. Donations from our trips help their coral restoration project in Nusa Penida Marine Protected Area and support their educational outreach activities for local schools in Nusa Penida.
Do I need to purchase travel insurance before traveling?

Jodi at Go Indonesia Tours set out the perfect and flawless Indonesia vacation for our group. Not only she allowed me to change the itinerary at least 5 times (up to 3 weeks before departure) but her quoted price was also extremely competitive as it included daily cars/drivers and guides when required to escort me to different tourist attractions. For 9 days of our Indonesia tour, we followed the tour without a single hitch. Staff, tour guides, hotels, and drivers were positive, punctual, charming, and friendly. An endearing, charismatic adventure surrounded by beautiful people. Flights, restaurants, and hotels were confirmed for us before we go. All of us were extremely impressed with all facets of this tour company's quality of service.

Indonesia - Tour Highlights and Travel Tips
When a country has as many as 17000 islands and 300 languages, it is bound to feel confusing and mysterious, yet full of adventure. Indonesia is one of the best places to venture off the beaten path, explore vast landmasses that have been literally untouched by mankind, become a part of scuba diving, hiking and jungle trekking tours and enjoy attractions such as gorgeous beaches, coral cays and unique species of wildlife.
Indonesia is famous as one of the most tectonically active nations on the planet. In other words, it is full of all kinds of volcanoes , nature’s weapons of destruction that also offer spectacular travel experiences. But it’s not all about volcanoes. Indonesia is also home to some of the most scintillating beaches and dramatic locales.
Tour Highlights
- Visit the dragons on Komodo Island
- Hike to the crater of Mount Bromo
- Find peace and ocean views at Pura Tanah Lot temple
- Explore Borobudur, the world’s largest Buddhist temple
- Find orangutans in the jungles of Sumatra
- Catch a wave on Kuta beach
Travel Tips
- Indonesia is a big country made up of several large islands. A drive across Sumatra, the country’s largest island, will take you around 50 hours. Investigate domestic flights instead, and plan ahead to make sure you see all the sites at the top of your bucket list.
- Left handers be wary: using your left hand is reserved for using the bathroom in Indonesia. It is considered rude to eat, shake hands, or pass items with your left hand.
- Don’t make the mistake of sticking to Bali . While Bali has much to offer, visiting other islands will surely give you the full Indonesia experience. Climb volcanos on Lombok , visit the capital city of Jakarta and relax on the beaches of the Gili Islands.
- A sarong will be your best friend when temple hopping, no matter whether you’re a man or a woman. Both sexes are expected to cover up when entering temples and other holy sites.
- Looking for a cheap snack between meals? Try krupuk! Sold on nearly every street corner, this tasty snack is made of deep-fried rice sugar.
Indonesia has seasonal weather so please do check up on the best time to visit Indonesia before planning your tour. If you’re still hunting for more things to do in Indonesia and places to explore in Indonesia , do check out our Indonesia Travel Guide for more information.

More information about Indonesia
An archipelago filled with elaborate temples, diverse islands, jungles and paradise beaches, Indonesia is a dream travel destination for lovers of all things exotic. A vacation package to Indonesia has space for everything, from the densely populated island of Java to isolated rocks which are home to some rather alarming-looking animals, like the Komodo Dragon.
This Southeast Asian nation is composed of more than 17,000 volcanic islands, located between the Indian and the Pacific Oceans , making it the largest island country in the world. Sharing land borders with Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, and East Timor, Indonesia is home to a staggering 261 million inhabitants and is the 4th most populous country in the world.
The large island of Java is the busiest island, home to around half of the entire population and the capital city of Jakarta , the center of politics and economy in Indonesia . The national motto ‘ Unity in Diversity’ acknowledges the diversity of the country’s inhabitants, which are composed of hundreds of distinct ethnic groups, as well as the amazing variety of islands, environments, and cultures.
Indonesia also has a strong Muslim tradition as followers of Islam make up the majority of the population. The opportunity to island hop and encounter many different experiences in one trip is one of the main attractions of multi-center holidays to Indonesia .
The country’s major islands include Sumatra, Java, Borneo and the Lesser Sunda Islands , which include the idyllic islands of Bali, Lombok, and Flores. The paradise beaches, sacred temples and lush rainforests of the islands in this group are often the images that spring to mind when envisioning Indonesia , but this exceptional biodiversity and natural beauty can be found throughout the archipelago from tiny uninhabited islands to the larger land masses as well.

On a tour of Indonesia, you will discover the influences of the nations diverse history on its monuments, sights, and traditions. Most written histories of the island nation of Indonesia begin with the kingdom of Srivajay in the 7th century , which was a powerful empire based on the island of Sumatra . The kingdom acted as an important center for the spread of Buddhism and was known for its impressive maritime technology.
Over the following centuries other kingdoms, such as the Shailendra and Mataram, thrived and declined on the island of Java , leaving behind their heritage in exceptional monuments and religious buildings such as the Borobudur in central Java and the Prambanan in Yogyakarta , both unmissable highlights to enjoy whilst on holiday in Indonesia.
In the 13th century, the kingdom of Majapahit arose as the leading power in the region, its influence spreading across much of modern-day Indonesia. The Islamic culture which the country is known for arrived around this period, brought by Muslim traders and scholars, and by the 18th century, Islam was the dominant religion on the islands of Java and Sumatra.
From 1513 onwards , Portuguese, British and Dutch traders began arriving in the region, trading with locals and eventually establishing the Dutch East India Company , who remained involved in Indonesia until World War II, when Japan occupied the archipelago.
Japanese rule encouraged an increased sense of Indonesian nationalism and independence movements, resulting in the nation's independence in 1945 , after the surrender of the Japanese . Modern-day Indonesia has endured its share of conflict and struggles both internally and with other nations, but has seen a lot of growth in recent years. Today, it is a vibrant and varied travel destination, which captivates the traveler on with its natural abundance and warm hospitality.
Nature in Indonesia
The sheer size, tropical climate and island geography of Indonesia make it one of the most biodiverse countries on earth, with a combination of both Asian and Australasian wildlife and fauna species.
Islands such as Bali, Sumatra, Java, and Borneo, were once part of the Asian mainland, and have retained the rich wildlife of the continent, examples of which include the Sumatran tiger , the famous orangutans of Borneo, leopards and Asian elephants.
Many visitors on a trip to Indonesia are attracted by the prospect of meeting orangutans in the jungle or watching elephants play in the Kinabatangan River on the island of Borneo.
Dense forest covers around 70% of the country, although some of the larger islands have suffered a significant amount of deforestation. On the nation' smallest islands, the geographical isolation has encouraged the development of extremely unique biodiversity, with a large number of endemic plant and animal species. These range from the Corpse Lily, the world’s largest flower, to Komodo dragons and the magical Greater bird-of-paradise. In fact, Indonesia ranks 2nd in the world after Australia for its number of endemic species.
It’s 80,000 kilometers of coastline are a beach-lovers dream, surrounded by tropical seas with abundant marine life such as manta rays and sea turtles. The Gili Islands are considered to be ‘ turtle heaven’ , due to their large populations of turtle species including green sea turtles , leatherbacks and hawksbill.
An Indonesia tour package is incomplete without taking some time to snorkel in the warm waters of the country’s tropical coastline. There are a number of must-see natural attraction in Indonesia , but the most popular include visiting the fearsome Komodo Dragons on the aptly named Komodo Island, a tiny island situated off the coast of Flores , diving or snorkelling around the Raja Ampat islands to discover an underwater world of multi-coloured coral and sea-life, meeting the endangered orangutans of Borneo and venturing out on a night safari in the Kerinci National Park in Sumatra to spot majestic Sumatran tigers and Asian elephants.
Culture in Indonesia
With at least 300 ethnic groups, there is no single dominant or homogenous culture in Indonesia ; instead, there exists a pleasant mix of traditions and cultural sights across the different regions, islands, and communities. One thing that almost all Indonesian’s have in common is that religion is at the heart of their everyday lives. Wherever you travel in Indonesia, you will notice that religion is at the heart of the country, from Hindu devotees making morning offerings in Bali to Muslims attending Friday prayers in the enormous Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta. The government recognizes six official religions, although the most dominant is Islam , so you can expect to see the influence of this on the country's culture.
Another facet of Indonesian culture is the prevalence of traditional performing arts; watching a colorful Barong dance show is an unmissable experience to enjoy on Bali vacation , whilst the superstitious and visually striking Reog dance is not to be missed during a visit to East Java.
There are more than 3,000 original Indonesian dances, each presenting a dynamic living tradition. Indonesia also has a strong arts and craft tradition, with a variety of artisans creating unique cultural objects throughout the country. In Bali, there has been a long tradition of artistry, with an expectation on individuals to take up their preferred art skill from a young age. Despite the complex melting pot of cultures, traditions, and arts in the country, one thing is for sure: an Indonesia vacation package will inspire your imagination and creativity like no other destination, hence it has attracted artists from all over the world.
From the bustling streets of Jakarta to the delicate sandy beaches of Gilli and the lush rainforests of Ubud in Bali, the island nation of Indonesia presents the traveler with an abundance of experiences. Island-hopping around the archipelago, you will be amazed by the natural abundance, rich history, and open-minded culture.
A holiday to Indonesia suits all tastes. One day you might be tracking tigers in the jungle and the next, watching the sunset on a paradisiacal beach, such is the diversity of Indonesia .

An anything-but-ordinary island escape.
When it comes to exploring Asia, forever favorites like Japan and Thailand are top of mind for many travelers (and for good reason). But those who venture off the beaten path—to Indonesia, in particular—will be handsomely rewarded. This Southeast Asian nation’s islands are as unique as they are scenic, and each offers cultural experiences you won’t find anywhere else. On the idyllic island of Bali, explore a rural rice farm and an emerald monkey forest. Tap into your spiritual side during a yoga class, and experience the purifying powers of water. On neighboring Java, watch the sun rise over a pair of towering volcanoes, and take in the grandeur of ancient Hindu and Buddhist temples. If your ideal travel mates are four-legged, feathered, or scaled, extend your visit and explore Komodo, which some have called the “Galapagos of Southeast Asia.”
Your tour package includes
- 9 nights in handpicked hotels
- 9 breakfasts
- 4 dinners with beer or wine
- 1 food tasting
Included highlights
- Bali rice farm visit
- Ubud Monkey Forest
- Bali yoga class
- Balinese cooking class
- Holy Spring Temple water purification ceremony
An expert specializing in tours of this region is here to help.
Day-by-day itinerary
Board your overnight flight to Bali today.
Welcome to Indonesia! This evening, settle in to your hotel in Ubud, on the island of Bali.
Meet up with a local guide and get to know Ubud, a peaceful, spiritual town on the island of Bali that’s known for its temples and wealth of cultural traditions. The emerald rice fields and lush jungles that surround Ubud are among Bali’s most famous landscapes.
- Stroll through the traditional farming village of Subak Guliang and witness daily rituals of rural life unfolding around you.
- Visit a rice farm to learn about the complexities of rice production and the importance of the grain, which Balinese people view as a gift from God and a symbol of life.
- Enjoy a tasting of coconut water, and pick up rice-cooking tips you can practice when you’re home.
Make your way into the rice field and sit down for a scenic welcome lunch. Get to know your fellow travelers and Tour Director as traditional Rindik music—a softly percussive style played on bamboo instruments—hums delicately in the background. Afterward, discover more Balinese traditions.
- Join a hands-on workshop, during which you’ll prepare your own canang sari—a small offering of gratitude locals prepare daily for Hindu deities.
- With your basket and offering ready, don a sarong and sash and enjoy a walk to the farming village’s temple.
- At the temple, meet one of the village priests, who will bless you and your fellow travelers after you’ve placed your offerings.
- Depart the rice farm and visit Ubud Monkey Forest, a lush forest and temple complex that’s home to more than 700 long-tailed macaques.
Begin the day with a personalized morning yoga class. Then, try your hand at making traditional Balinese dishes during a cooking class taught by an expert chef. Join your fellow travelers and enjoy the lunch you’ve prepared together.
Later, pay a visit to some of the area’s most unique and important sites.
- Stop by Goa Gajah, or the Elephant Cave temple—a mysterious Hindu archaeological site just outside of the city whose menacing, carved-stone entrance has been likened to a demon’s mouth.
- Visit the Holy Spring Temple, or Tampak Siring, to learn about water’s symbolic significance to Balinese people and to take part in a water purification ceremony in the temple’s cleansing pool.
Spend a free evening in Ubud or add an excursion.
Please note: A change of clothes and/or a bathing suit is recommend for the water purification ceremony.

Today, fly to the island of Java and explore Yogyakarta—the cradle of civilization on the island and one of Indonesia’s foremost cultural centers.
- Head to the 10th-century Prambanan—a UNESCO World Heritage site and the largest temple compound in Indonesia dedicated to the Hindu deity Shiva.
- Visit the complex’s main courtyard and view the intricately carved temples and their spires, which illustrate the story of Ramayana—an ancient, Sanskrit epic.

Enjoy an included dinner this evening served with beer or wine.

After settling in at your hotel, join your group for this evening’s included dinner, which is served with beer or wine.
Wake up early this morning and climb aboard a Jeep for a sunrise tour of volcanic Mount Bromo, which is situated within Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. With its spectacular views that include Mount Bromo in the foreground and towering Mount Semeru—Indonesia’s highest volcano—in the background, the park draws nature buffs and sunrise enthusiasts from all around the world.
- Drive into Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park and admire the roughly 300-square-mile park’s dramatic landscapes as the mist slowly lifts.
- Stop at a viewpoint to watch the sun rise over the impressive landscape and to enjoy views of the 12,060-foot-high Mount Semeru.
- Enjoy an included picnic breakfast as you take in the views and history of the park.

Best Things to Do in Indonesia
Places to visit in indonesia, how many days to spend in indonesia, why should you buy packages for indonesia.
Opting for an Indonesia tour package is a prudent choice that effectively addresses the challenges travelers might encounter during their visit to this diverse and vibrant country. Here's why purchasing a Indonesia tour package for Indonesia is important: 1. Navigating Complex Geography : Indonesia is an archipelago with thousands of islands, each offering unique attractions. Planning transportation, accommodations, and activities across different islands can be daunting. A tour package streamlines this complexity, ensuring a seamless transition between destinations without the stress of organizing multiple transfers. 2. Cultural Diversity and Etiquette: Indonesia's rich cultural tapestry demands sensitivity to local customs and etiquettes, which can vary significantly from one region to another. A reputable tour package is crafted by experts who understand these nuances, allowing you to engage with diverse communities respectfully and confidently. 3. Language Barrier Mitigation: Communicating in local languages can be challenging, especially in less touristy areas. Tour packages often provide experienced local guides who bridge the language gap, ensuring clear communication and facilitating deeper connections with local communities. 4. Optimal Time Management: Indonesia's vastness and array of attractions can result in time-consuming planning. A tour package optimizes your itinerary, ensuring that you make the most of your time while minimizing waiting or downtime between activities. 5. Effortless Access to Remote Gems: Some of Indonesia's most enchanting places are tucked away in offbeat corners. Accessing these hidden gems can be complicated, but tour packages often provide exclusive access, granting you the opportunity to explore secluded wonders that independent travelers might miss. 6. Safety and Local Support: Navigating unfamiliar terrain comes with inherent risks. A tour package ensures that you have local support and assistance, enhancing your safety and providing guidance in unfamiliar situations. 7. Cuisine and Dietary Preferences: Indonesia offers a tantalizing array of cuisines, but dietary preferences and allergies can be a concern. Tour packages often take these factors into account, recommending suitable dining options and ensuring your culinary experiences are enjoyable and worry-free. 8. Expert Guided Insights: Local guides included in tour packages share in-depth insights into Indonesia's history, culture, and attractions. This enriches your understanding and appreciation of the places you visit, enhancing the overall quality of your experience. 9. Caring for the Environment: Responsible travel practices are crucial in preserving Indonesia's natural beauty. Reputable tour operators prioritize eco-friendly activities and accommodations, allowing you to explore with a clear conscience and contribute to sustainable tourism. 10. Group Dynamics and Shared Experiences: Joining a tour package allows you to share your journey with like-minded travelers, fostering new friendships and creating shared memories. By investing in an Indonesia tour package, you're not just purchasing a vacation; you're ensuring a curated and enriching adventure. With transportation, accommodations, cultural nuances, and safety considerations expertly managed, you can focus on embracing Indonesia's diverse landscapes, traditions, and experiences. The result is a remarkable and immersive journey that transcends challenges, providing you with the opportunity to fully enjoy the captivating allure of this incredible nation.
Best Time to Visit Indonesia
The best time to visit Indonesia is during the dry season, which varies across different regions of the country. In general, the dry season spans from April to October in many popular tourist destinations like Bali, Java, Lombok, and the Gili Islands. This period offers sunny weather, lower rainfall, and ideal conditions for outdoor activities, including beach vacations, water sports, and exploring the diverse landscapes. However, it's important to note that Indonesia's climate can vary greatly from one island to another, so it's recommended to check the specific weather patterns for your intended destination before planning your trip.

The 10 best places to visit in Indonesia
Dec 10, 2023 • 7 min read
Indonesia is how you've always imagined Asia – jungles, rice terraces, beaches, coral reefs and volcanoes © Martin Puddy / Getty Images
Few destinations can beat Indonesia in terms of variety.
One day, you're strolling beneath the glistening skyscrapers of a modern city; the next, you're in a traditional hilltop village scoffing down steaming gado-gado (tofu, tempeh, vegetables slathered in a creamy peanut sauce).
From climbing the freezing-cold summit of a puffing volcano to beating through tropical rainforests in search of orangutans or tigers, Indonesia offers unparalleled opportunities for adventure. Where else can you salute the sun at sunrise and then surf a world-class barrel back to a virgin beach at sunset?
Roughly half of all international tourists land in Bali , but the nation is so much more than this one enticing island. From Java , Sumatra and Sulawesi to the frontier islands of West Papua (shared with Papua New Guinea) and Borneo (shared with Malaysia and Brunei), here are the top places to visit on a trip to Indonesia.
1. Jakarta, Java
Best city for art and history .
There’s no better place to get to grips with this vast and complex nation of 273 million people than its capital, Jakarta . Home to more than 10 million residents, it’s chaotic, traffic-clogged and sprawls over nearly 700 sq km (270 sq miles). It’s also home to the nation’s finest restaurants, wildest nightclubs and best museums.
Take time to browse the collections in the Museum Nasional (for history), Galeri Nasional (for classical art) and MACAN (for modern and contemporary art). From the Dutch colonial buildings of the Kota Tua neighborhood to the modern skyrises of the Golden Triangle, the city is both a study in contrasts and a crossroads of cultures, classes and cuisines.
2. Tanjung Puting National Park, Kalimantan, Borneo
Best place to see orangutans.
If you want to see orangutans, the island of Borneo is the last place on earth (other than a few spots in neighboring Sumatra) where these great apes still thrive. Travelers looking for surefire sightings of orangutans head to Tanjung Puting National Park , a coastal tropical swamp forest that looks today like much of southern Borneo looked a few decades ago.
Most visitors hire liveaboard boats to travel up the Sekonyer River to feeding stations in the rainforest and Camp Leakey, the iconic rehabilitation center deep in the jungle where these auburn-haired 'men of the forest' live out a serene, semi-wild existence.
3. Raja Ampat, West Papua
Best place for snorkeling and diving.
Raja Ampat was once an under-the-radar destination visited only by intrepid scuba divers, but the whispers about this enticing island group have now reached a fever pitch. Off the coast of West Papua, the archipelago is a picture-perfect vision of paradise. Its lumpy green isles are blanketed in rainforests, dotted with languid lagoons and surrounded by warm turquoise seas at the vibrant heart of the Coral Triangle – an area of ocean with some of the greatest marine biodiversity on earth.
Raja Ampat's prismatic birds-of-paradise, which dance through the trees each morning at sunrise, informed the theory of evolution through natural selection, first developed by Charles Darwin’s less-appreciated contemporary, Alfred Russel Wallace. The British naturalist's restored hut is a popular attraction on the island of Gam. In addition to the dive lodges on Waigeo and Misool, many visitors sleep in homestays on virgin beaches, offering a chance to learn more about West Papua's distinctive culture.
4. Ubud, Bali
Best city for wellness and culture.
Rice paddies tumble down palm-lined hills, gamelan music fills the air, and floral offerings fill the streets in Bali’s most alluring (and on-trend) city, Ubud . By day, you can take a motorcycle out to the Monkey Forest for simian encounters, pop into the Yoga Barn for an ashtanga session, ogle the art at the Agung Rai Museum or shop for word-class beauty products, woodcarvings and batik textiles downtown. After dark, many people attend evening performances at local temples, where visitors are hypnotized by the beauty of courtly Legong ballets or wild Kecak fire dancing. Be careful! Many foreigners come to Ubud for a few days and end up staying a few years.
5. Komodo National Park, Nusa Tenggara
Best place for surprising wildlife encounters.
Dragons really do roam the earth at this sprawling national park , covering the three arid islands – Komodo, Padar and Rinca – that provide shelter for the world’s largest lizards. Komodo dragons are ancient-looking creatures that can grow up to 3m in length and weigh up to 70kg. Sadly, there are fewer than 1400 of these fork-tongued giants left in the wild. The chance to see them lures thousands of visitors each year, many of whom arrive on a boat tour en route from Lombok to Flores , stopping along the way to snorkel or dive off the coast of Sumbawa .
6. Borobudur and Yogyakarta, Java
Best place for indonesian history.
Peru has Machu Picchu, Cambodia has Angkor Wat, and Indonesia has Borobudur , a nine-tiered temple from the 9th century that clocks in as the largest Buddhist structure in the world. Emblazoned across its walls are some 2672 intricately-carved bas relief panels featuring Buddhist legends and scenes of daily life in Java, as well as 72 distinctive, perforated stupas and more than 500 Buddha statues.
This colossal World Heritage Site lies amid sprawling rice paddies near Yogyakarta , an important education center and a hub for classical Javanese art forms, including batik-making, wayang puppetry and silversmithing. Yogya, as the city is known locally, is fiercely independent and still headed by a resident sultan, whose walled palace complex is the city’s top attraction.
7. Tana Toraja, Sulawesi
Best place for cultural traditions.
The jungle-clad hills and rugged granite cliffs of Tana Toraja would be enough of a lure for most places, but the big draw of the central highlands of Sulawesi is the Torajan people themselves. The inhabitants of this fascinating region maintain traditions that mark them apart from other Indonesians, living in villages of elaborately decorated houses with intricately carved walls and boat-shaped roofs.
Many rituals here revolve around death and the afterlife. The bodies of the deceased remain in the homes (and lives) of their relatives for months or even years after they pass – for Torajans, death is viewed as a gradual and social process, and locals are generally comfortable sharing these unusual traditions with visitors.
8. Kerinci Valley, Sumatra
Best place for hiking.
Southeast Asia’s tallest volcano, Gunung Kerinci – a 3805m (12,484ft) monster – lords over this remote highland valley on Sumatra , which has become one of Indonesia’s top spots for adventure travel. You can climb to the summit of this active volcano, swim beneath cascading waterfalls or search dense jungles for gibbons and langur monkeys.
Much of the land here is protected as Kerinci Seblat National Park, which is two times the size of Bali and protects more forest than all of Costa Rica’s national parks combined. At 13,791 sq km (5325 sq miles), Kerinci Seblat is the last large refuge for the critically endangered Sumatran tiger, which survives here in greater numbers than anywhere else on the planet.
9. Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, Java
Best place for beautiful indonesian views.
You don’t have to look far in Indonesia to find a volcano, but Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in East Java contains a whopping five volcanoes right next to each other. These conical peaks are dotted around a lunar landscape that has sprung from the ancient Tengger caldera.
The most striking site is smoldering Gunung Bromo, which rises 2329m (7641ft) out of a crater that is almost 10km (6 miles) across, surrounded by the nation’s only erg (dune sea). Most visitors time the trek to the summit to arrive at dawn to view the crater and volcanoes at their ethereal best.
10. The Gili Islands, Lombok
Best place for beach parties.
These tiny dollops of coral and sand off the coast of Lombok carry an outsized reputation thanks to their crystalline turquoise waters, white-sand beaches, ambitious vegan and health food restaurants, renowned freediving schools and epic beach parties. The Gilis started out as a boho backpacker destination, but the islands now cater to all types of travelers, with everything from backstreet hostels to luxurious beachfront cabanas (beach huts).
Gili Trawangan (aka ‘Gili T’) is the largest and most developed of the islands, with a main drag that heaves with shops, massage parlors and cafes. Gili Meno is the smallest and most traditional island, while Gili Air offers the best of both worlds and is a lively hub for yoga tourism.

A tourist plunged 250 feet to her death in Indonesia after tripping while taking photos on the edge of an active volcano.
The woman, identified as 31-year-old Chinese citizen Huang Lihong, was with her husband on a guided tour of Ijen — a volcano park in East Java — when she tumbled into the crater Saturday, Hongxing News reported.
The couple had climbed to the top of the active volcano, which is known for its popular “blue fire” phenomenon, to catch the sunrise.
The tour guide later told authorities that Lihong had initially kept a safe distance from the edge of the crater after being repeatedly warned of the dangers while posing for snaps.
But she then started walking backward to inch closer — then accidentally stepped on her long clothing, tripped and fell into the mouth of volcano.
A photo circulating in local media showed Lihong apparently posing with her leg raised and clouds of sulfur gas behind her just before her deadly tumble.
It took rescuers roughly two hours to retrieve her body, according to authorities.
The tourist’s death has since been ruled an accident.
Her body was scheduled to be transported to Bali before being flown back to China, local media reported.
The Ijen volcano — among a cluster in the region — is known for its “blue fire”, which is caused by combustion of sulfuric gases.

What did Tim Cook's SEA visit tell us?
Credit: AFP
Apple CEO Tim Cook recently concluded his most extensive Southeast Asia (SEA) tour in years, visiting Vietnam, Indonesia, and Singapore from April 15-19.
While the visits were brief, his meetings with the government leaders of these countries highlighted the purpose of this visit: to seek new growth markets and manufacturing sites to offset Apple's ongoing struggles in China.
Cook's X (formerly Twitter) account has painted the trip as one where he met with local content creators and communities, but media reports pointed out that Cook has repeatedly stressed the SEA region's importance as both a market and emergent manufacturing base. In meetings with government leaders, Cook discussed furthering collaboration between Apple and their respective countries, ranging from additional investments for manufacturing to AI talent cultivation.
Meeting government leaders
The first stop of Cook's trip was to Vietnam, where he met with Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính . Pham pointed out that Apple has already created over 200,000 job opportunities in Vietnam in recent years. Cook stated that there will be increased cooperation with Vietnam, including buying more components and accessories from Vietnam's suppliers, a big boost to the country's goal of becoming a global manufacturing hub. Apple claimed it has invested approximately US$15.8 billion in the Vietnamese supply chain since 2019.
Cook's next stop was in Indonesia, where he met with President Joko Widodo , popularly known as "Jokowi." Cook stated that they "talked about the president's desire to see manufacturing in the country," and has referred to the investment ability in Indonesia as "endless." The meeting with Cook is part of Jokowi's efforts to shift global manufacturing supply chains into Indonesia amidst geopolitical tensions.
The country has already secured investments from automakers Hyundai and BYD. Besides Cook, Jokowi also met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk in 2022 and may meet Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella at the end of this month.
Cook's last stop on his trip was to Singapore, where he met Prime Minister-elect Lawrence Wong and his predecessor Lee Hsien Loong (Update: Lee couldn't attend the meeting due to catching the flu ). Apple's relationship with Singapore runs deep, dating back to more than 40 years ago when Singapore manufactured Apple II PCs in the 1980s. Over the decades, Singapore has evolved to a point where it now serves as a key hub for Apple in the Asia-Pacific region.
Right before the meeting with Wong, Apple announced on its website that it plans to invest US$250 million to expand its Ang Mo Kio campus, with a focus on expanding the AI talent pool. The company stated that it already employs more than 3,600 people in Singapore and the expansion "will provide more space for new roles in AI and other functions." In the statement, Cook referred to Singapore as "truly a one-of-a-kind place," and that they "can't wait for many more decades of innovation to come."
Struggles in China and geopolitical concerns
Cook's visit highlighted the company's growing emphasis on the SEA region, and it is largely due to the company's sluggish performance in the Chinese market and growing geopolitical tensions between China and the US.
Apple's reliance on China has never been a secret, both as one of its largest foreign markets and its primary manufacturing/assembly site where its devices are produced. However, the company's biggest money maker, the iPhone, has been struggling in the Chinese market. According to Bloomberg , iPhone shipments in the Chinese market saw a 19% YoY decrease in the first quarter of 2024, the steepest for Apple since the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020.
One of the factors contributing to the decline is the return of Huawei in the high-end smartphone market, which was further exacerbated by geopolitics as the Chinese government bans the use of iPhones in government agencies and state-owned companies. This ban gave domestic brands like Huawei another boost in prospects and cast further uncertainty on Apple's prospects in China.
To offset its struggles in China, Apple has been seeking out other markets. Among them is India, which has recently replaced China as the most populated country in the world. Tim Cook met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April 2023 as the company began to expand and shift some of its manufacturing to India. A recent report from Bloomberg stated that Apple is already assembling around 1 in 7 of its iPhones in India, totaling an output of US$14 billion.
Following the conclusion of another highly-publicized trip and meetings with government leaders by Tim Cook, it's likely safe to assume that the SEA region will undergo a similar increase in investments and attention from Apple in its quest to maintain growth without relying too much on the fickle market that is China.
