Very friendly, great fish! When we got home fish was still warm but fries were cold. I can't give a great review on the fries but the service, tarter, fish and coleslaw are awesome!!!! Having some tables outside would be great as well but it is a great place to try!

Thank you Donna! With summer coming up we are going to be working out some outdoor seating options. We will do better with the fries next time.

Their food is amazing, I got the 5 pieces Halibut and they gave me a piece of the Cod so I could see what it taste like, and the whole thing was amazing. We will be going back on a regular basis. We needed a really good fish N chips place in the area and now we do. Keep up the good work, the service was amazing and they were very professional. We will be going back all the time. And while we were there one of the regular patrons showed up and ordered 5 orders of the Halibut and said it was the best he has ever had. They get their fish flown in fresh. I do not understand anyone giving this place a bad review. I hope they are very blessed with their business. Thank you for great service and great food.

Brand new food truck in Meridian serving fish and chips. Choosing between cod and halibut. Prices are reasonable for a 3 or 5 piece meal with home made Cole slaw and fries. A little busy so their fry oil needs to heat back up. Tasty though just needs a touch of salt.

Service was great and the truck is one of a kind but the food was not great. Unfortunately here in the valley we have very few choices for fish and chips and one that beats all others is The Kilted Cod that is about 2 miles south of this boat. The fish was a bit dry and the breading reminded me of fish sticks more than a good batter. Fries were good but it really is all about the fish when it comes to a food truck. Not sure if I'll be back unless The Kilted Cod were to ever leave.

Apr 13, 2024

Hi Brad, I’m glad you enjoy the Kilted Kod. We do a light breading rather than a batter. With a batter you end up with a lot of grease unfortunately and so to each his own. God bless

Photo of Silvia B.

No comparison to the kilted cod. 3 itty bitty pieces of cod that were mushy on the outside. 12.00 for mainly fries. A complete ripoff. Also 2 spoonfuls of the worst coleslaw I've ever eaten

Hi Silvia, I’m glad you’re friends with Kevin and the Kilted Kod. God bless

Fish was not cooked all the way through and got 3 very small piece. Opened box right away I parking lot fries were luck warm at best, taste like had been sitting there for a while. Lady was really nice. But food was not good.

Joe Mazzulla takes to Boston’s streets as city embraces him for delivering Banner 18

BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS - JUNE 21: Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla during the Boston Celtics Victory Parade following their 2024 NBA Finals win at TD Garden on June 21, 2024 in Boston, Massachusetts. (Photo by Scott Eisen/Getty Images)

BOSTON — Joe Mazzulla needed to get closer.

Leading the Boston Celtics’ championship parade on the first duck boat Friday, he did everything he could to hype the crowd. Pointing, flexing, slamming the roof of the boat: He was amped in a way he rarely shows on the court.

But it wasn’t enough. So he jumped off the boat to take the streets by foot. Finally, a chance to connect with — or scream at — his people face to face.

Joe Mazzulla jumped out the window of his duck boat, ran through the streets hyping everyone up, then somehow jumped back into the duck boat even on a torn meniscus pic.twitter.com/3MBSKZ5wGU — Jared Weiss (@JaredWeissNBA) June 21, 2024

This isn’t just a coach achieving his dream of winning an NBA title. This is a New England kid who manifested this moment through improbable circumstances. Mazzulla has gone from “Second Row Joe” to a Boston icon in the blink of an eye. The governor of Rhode Island announced Friday was “Joe Mazzulla Day” in his home state. The fans cheered every time Mazzulla pumped his fist at them at the parade.

A year ago, many of them wanted him gone. Forcing a Game 7 against the Miami Heat might be the main reason they didn’t get their wish. Mazzulla won the fans over not just by delivering a title but by being himself.

“You got to earn the right to show your personality as a coach,” Mazzulla told The Athletic in February . “You can’t just come out and just do whatever the hell you want.”

Now that the team was in lockstep, the community started to appreciate his plentiful quirks and unique perspective. The sarcasm that used to rub people the wrong way started to endear him to a fan base that embraces being brash and different.

“We finally got a coach that I feel like the city really stands behind in a different way. I think he’s perfect for the city,” said Dorchester rapper Cousin Stizz, who was at the parade.

Across Mazzulla’s chest was a black-and-white photo of Red Auerbach and Bill Russell celebrating a title of their own, a reminder of Mazzulla’s place in a long line of Celtics champions. After winning the NBA Finals, Mazzulla made sure to recognize all the Celtics who came before him. He wanted to show an appreciation for the footsteps he was walking in.

“I think the most important thing, something that’s really been going through my mind throughout this process, is you can’t lose sight of the people that came before us,” Mazzulla said. “And I want to make sure every person that’s worked for the Celtics, that’s played for the Celtics that didn’t win, knows that their work and what they have done has not gone unnoticed or it doesn’t play a part in where we are at today.”

After the Celtics returned from their post-finals Miami trip, Mazzulla took the Larry O’Brien trophy on a tour through the North End as fans screamed and chased after him. He visited his favorite restaurants, showing the trophy to the places in the community he calls home. Though he always deferred to his players when it came to taking credit for the team’s success, Mazzulla looked at home walking the streets of Boston with his prize in tow.

When his duck boat started to make the first turn off Causeway Street, there was a brief pause. He took that as an opportunity to likely break several municipal codes and jump on top of the roof and scream. He even inspired his young son, Emmanuel, to check out the view from up there, to the crowd’s delight.

Joe Mazzulla’s son was having the time of his life on top of the duck boat pic.twitter.com/P57sXUgnH0 — Jared Weiss (@JaredWeissNBA) June 21, 2024

Watching Mazzulla captain the parade was a special moment for Celtics fan Jack Bienvenue. You might remember him as the “Tattoo Kid” who had Banner 18 etched onto his arm before the 2022 playoffs.

“Everyone’s rooting for me, but the general public, it took them a lot longer to come around because haters gonna hate,” he said before the Golden State Warriors beat the Celtics in the 2022 finals.

That experience helped him appreciate Mazzulla’s unique rise as Celtics coach.

“I will run through a brick wall for that guy. Screw anyone who says they wouldn’t,” Bienvenue said at the parade. “He’s the exact kind of coach Boston needs. He may be a little different, but he’s Boston different.”

Mazzulla’s proclivities make him stand out from coaches of the past. Auerbach had his cigars. Doc Rivers loved his golf. Mazzulla regularly reveals something new that confounds the public.

“My favorite thing was him (on a podcast) saying that he doesn’t go through revolving doors because you’re a sitting duck,” Stizz said. “I’ve stopped going through revolving doors because of that.”

Boston has gotten to know him well enough to understand how his distinct worldview helped build a champion. He’s different, but that’s the team’s slogan this season: Different here.

That’s why, when Bienvenue’s tattoo finally came true, he didn’t want to just clean it up. Just like Mazzulla, these past few years have been an important part of his story. So he crossed out the “2” with red ink, to resemble a teacher marking a test, and drew a “4” with an asterisk.

hype boat trip

“I was never considering lasering off the two and just putting a four,” Bienvenue said. “That would just be pointless at that point and destroy the whole story of everything.”

Some coaches like to become the distraction to take the focus off their players. When Mazzulla took the job under difficult circumstances, he insisted he was there to support the players as they tried to find a new identity under a new coach. But as Mazzulla started to show more and more of himself this season, his team got better and better. It wasn’t because the players needed him to take the heat off them but because his team and city now appreciate his authenticity.

Mazzulla didn’t feel like he could show his true self during his debut season because nobody would understand it. But he’s the real Joe, and the parade cemented why he was the right guy for the job all along.

“There’s a certain mentality and mindset it takes to win here,” Bienvenue said. “Joe encapsulates that better than anyone.”

Letters to the editor | letters: volunteer docents bring our cultural institutions and city to life.

A Chicago’s First Lady Cruises boat navigates the Chicago River on Aug. 21, 2019. (Antonio Perez/ Chicago Tribune)

With some institutions that have chosen to disband these volunteer programs in favor of paid docents who work longer hours, I think it’s important that we remember the countless contributions these volunteers make to our city. By donating their time and passion, these individuals bring the perspective of the visitor and simultaneously free up institutional resources so organizations can finance the other work they do in communities.

At the Chicago Architecture Center (CAC), where I serve on the board, the impact of volunteer docents is profound. These dedicated individuals undergo rigorous training to deeply understand our city’s built environment. By leading walking and boat tours, docents offer visitors and locals alike an immersive journey into Chicago’s architectural heritage.

This includes individuals such as Cathy Thompson, who currently leads downtown walking tours and is training to become a docent on Chicago’s First Lady river cruise. Cathy is among several new docents contributing their tour-leading expertise to the CAC and other institutions, such as the Robie House and the Charnley-Persky House, following the end of their tenure at the Art Institute of Chicago.

The impact of CAC’s volunteer docents continues long after their tours end. These tours are a tourist destination in Chicago, and thanks to ticket revenue, the CAC is able to fund educational programming that introduces underserved youth to careers in science, technology, engineering, math and architecture, and empowers adults to take a more active role in building the city they want, thereby fostering a more inclusive and equitable future for our city.

Without volunteer docents, the CAC would be unable to dedicate the same level of resources to funding architecture and design education programs for Chicagoans.

Volunteer docents are the heartbeat of our cultural institutions, breathing life into exhibits, stories and traditions. In an era when the value of volunteer work is sometimes overlooked, it is essential to recognize and celebrate the contributions of these dedicated individuals. They embody the true Chicago spirit of service and community, selflessly giving their time and expertise to enrich the lives of others.

Without them, our museums and cultural landmarks would not be the vibrant, dynamic spaces they are today.

— Graham Grady, trustee, Chicago Architecture Center

There are millions of us

There are many of us in our great nation who do not buy the hype that our country is in a downward spiral filled with hate-mongering and disparagement of one another.

We don’t march in protests, nor do we get bent out of shape by the lies and never-ending conspiracies filling social media. We pay scant attention to any extreme policy stances from either political party.

We believe in commonsense and simply want a government that works for working- and middle-class America. We believe all people should be treated with dignity and respect and those being left behind by the marketplace should be given a hand up.

Most of the mainstream media ignore us, and that is fine. We seek normalcy and insist upon law and order. We do not heap guilt on those whose sexual orientation is different from ours, and we support citizenship for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipients, or “Dreamers,” within our borders.

We support abortion rights, oppose book banning and detest demeaning labeling and name-calling by those seeking public office. We do not find those who attacked the U.S. Capitol to be patriots, let alone hostages.

We find very little wrong with government that repairs highways, bridges and airports, nor do we find fault with alliances with other nations to foster economic security and world peace.

We are not noisy, nor do we alienate other Americans. We believe our planet is being damaged by human-induced climate change, and we seek health care as a right for all of us.

We are not socialists. We do not support tax cuts that are 50 times higher for the top 1% than middle-income households. We do want higher taxes on corporations and incomes at the top of our nation’s economic ladder.

Do not call us liberals or progressives. We are neither center-left nor center-right. We are quiet but not silent. We will show up to vote, and we will be heard.

Don’t bet against us as we represent Americans by the millions who will not have their democracy taken from them.

— Jerry Hanson, Elkhorn, Wisconsin

Missing 2 crucial points

The May 26 editorial on American’s perception of the economy misses two essential points ( “Americans are not all economically ignorant. They just mostly care about different measurements than elites.” ).

First, the Tribune Editorial Board’s focus is entirely on inflation. This is virtually meaningless unless it is simultaneously paired with changes in spending power. As it turns out, wages have generally increased faster than prices since the beginning of 2023. That is a critical consideration the board missed.

On the other hand, measures of inflation do not typically include the cost of borrowing, which has skyrocketed in the past two years. That is a huge factor for those with credit card debt or who are holding adjustable rate mortgages. That is the second critical consideration the board missed.

— Sam Cordes, emeritus economics professor, Chicago

Watch prices at the store

In this day and age in which everyone is watching their finances closely, everyone needs to look at their receipts in supermarkets or watch every item as it’s scanned either in a line or at a self-checkout.

Large supermarkets are using price markdowns to get people into their stores, move products and clear their aisles for new and or fresher products.

Remember the old-school phrase ‘buyer beware’ when shopping and protect yourself as a consumer: Monitor and audit your purchases either at the point of purchase or by reading your receipt in the store after making your purchases, so you don’t get fleeced.

— Eric M. Poders, Northbrook

A recovery of decorum

Agatha Christie mystery reprints were popular when I was a preteen in the 1960s, and I definitely read my share. Her books frequently contained a senior character who in disbelief and sorrow remarks about the passing of the conventions of their youth and how the contemporary scene is much different.

I couldn’t appreciate the unease back then, but I certainly can today. Christie nailed it, all right. I’ve heard the assessment multiple times on Facebook: that the world you grew up in is gone forever. Wait, who says so?

We sorely miss the display of respect for authority figures and those whose opinions differ from ours. We need that decorum.

But increased polarization? I don’t buy that. As folk wisdom puts it, the only place you see a gathering of people without friction is in a cemetery. It’s the mannered working out of differences that makes us civilized today. Or perhaps semi-civilized.

Painfully mindful of all that, I’m seeing the upcoming debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump as yet another opportunity to recover here. Can the candidates act like proper role models, dispense with the character assassination and confine themselves to the issues? Remember those? The economy, taxes, foreign trade, immigration, climate control, abortion, Israel and Ukraine present a workable list.

May the best man win on these counts.

— Tom Gregg, Niles
