Reviews of Collette Tours

Tour guide Tyler Davis and coach driver, Sharmake, were excellent. Tyler provided much of Canadian facts and a bit of history along the way. Sharmake was an excellent driver who got us to our destinations safely. Rockie Mountaineer was the best! Such service! The gold leaf coach was the way to go. Canadian Rockies were breathtaking and the glacier…WOW! I recommend Collette travel.
Could not have asked for a better time. Our Tour Guide Katie and Driver Joe were phenomenal . All aspects of our comfort were taken into account. The attention to detail is evident and appreciated

Beautiful national park landscape

They have 6 broad classifications for travel style: Classic, Explorations, Spotlights, River Cruise, Faith, and Impact Travel:

1. Classic Collette Tours - This is what they call their Flagship collection, group tours that make the postcard come to life. Visit all the must see sites, enjoy cultural experiences, all with a professional and knowledgeable guide, there to help make your travel as seamless as possible. Groups are on the larger side

2. Explorations - These tours are about going deeper, meeting locals, and getting off the beaten path. “Authenticity” is a big word for Collette Explorations. You’ll experience the destination in a smaller group, an average of 18 people, allowing for access to more local experiences not available to larger groups. Classic sites will also be included in your itinerary, but the focus is mostly on unique experiences.

3. Spotlights - Have a shorter amount of time and don’t want to miss anything? Collette Spotlight tours are designed to maximize your city stay or short getaway experience. These are primarily walking tours, packed with sightseeing, historical and cultural information, but with some downtime as well. Typically these tours are between 5-9 days.

4. River Cruise - A very popular mode of travel, particularly for 50+ travelers, river cruising is ideal for those seeking a leisurely vacation, unpacking only once, enjoying gliding by beautiful sites and participating in various guided shore excursions. Collette river cruises go around the world, including China, Egypt, and Europe.

5. Faith - For those travelers interested in visiting religious sites, Collette has a group of tours dedicated to faith based travel. Visit world famous icons and learn their ancient histories.

Collette Faith tours visit everything from grand churches to the humble beginnings of the three major world religions in the Holy Land. Tours are history based with an emphasis on finding deeper spiritual significance and meaning. They also have trips to the Oberammergau Passion Play .

6. Impact Travel - Being a responsible traveler is an important component on all Collette tours, however if you’re seeking to do more to give back, their Impact Tours are a great way to do so. Sightsee with a purpose as you assist with local initiatives, volunteering among the community, helping in classrooms, and protecting local wildlife.

There are so many benefits to letting someone else take on all the details that come with having The Perfect Trip. See why more and more travelers choose to Go Guided — and why they never go back.

5 Reasons to Go Guided:

Go Tour Managers!

On Day 1 of your trip, you’ll meet a friendly person who sure does know a lot about your tour and the destinations you’re visiting. This highly skilled professional is your tour manage and from the moment you meet this key player on your tour, you’ll know you’re in good hands. With their rich travel backgrounds, as well as their useful information about language, currency, and all things local, you can relax and enjoy the ride.

Go Culture!

Visiting a destination gives you a taste of the local culture. But imagine actually becoming part of that culture. Staying overnight in an Irish castle like Old-World royalty…feeling the cool waters of the Great Barrier Reef envelop you as you snorkel in its turquoise paradise…or rolling dough with an Italian chef to make the perfect pizza. It’s not just about all the iconic spots that will make for the best photos, it’s about diving into another world that makes for the best memories.

Go Product Team!

Our product experts are probably on the road right now — scoping out the best of our worldwide destinations. They go, take it all in, and find the moments they love best. Those are the moments they create for you. Those experiences and sights comprise each itinerary and make each one extra-special. Best of all, you don’t have to plan a thing. You just need to choose which itinerary best suits you.

Travel is social by nature. Guided travel is extra social. Meet a cast of characters: your fellow travelers, tour manager, driver, local guides and more. The social aspect of guided travel is one of the best parts! Many travelers on our tours have forged lasting friendships. Think of all the wonderful people waiting to meet you out in the world.

Go Worry-Free!

Your peace of mind is the most important thing to us. And that starts with our roundtrip home to airport sedan service. Forget taxis, airport fees, or public transportation. We will get you there...and back. And if for any reason you need to cancel your tour, you can do so — right up until the day before departure — and receive a full refund (thanks to our travel protection plan).

There are many ways to experience the world:

Among Collette’s worldwide collection of tours we offer a variety of guided travel choices. No matter where (or how) you want to go, Collette can take you there.

Small Groups, Big Experiences

From vibrant cities to remote villages, immerse yourself in other worlds. As part of a small group, enjoy accommodations chosen to capture the spirit of the destination, savor spectacular local cuisine, and take the time to explore on your own. Along the way Explorations sets the stage for the unexpected moments that make travel so special. With just 12-24 passengers, these are the personal adventures that today’s cultural explorers dream about.

Amazing Family Moments Included

Collette's Family tours bring travelers of all ages together to experience the world’s greatest destinations. There’s no better classroom than the world, no better education than taking a walk through history. Today’s parents — and grandparents — want to share the riches of travel with their children and grandchildren. Each tour in our family line is specially crafted with the best local experiences, iconic must-see's, family-oriented hotels and immersive cultural activities. Children ages 14 and under enjoy substantially discounted rates.

Tour Activity Level

The activity level for this tour:

You’re a leisurely traveler. You typically take it easy and discover the energy of a new place by people-watching or soaking in the atmosphere at a local café. You can climb at least one flight of stairs, board a coach, and walk unassisted at a relaxed pace for up to 60 minutes without difficulty. You can easily handle altitudes up to 5,000 feet.

You like a balanced approach to travel. Walking two to three miles over the course of a day is no problem for you. You can partake in a two-hour leisurely walking tour, covering up to two miles (with included breaks). You can handle a variety of terrains, from cobblestone streets to moderate hills with relative ease and without assistance. You can climb two flights of stairs with ease. There may be 1 to 2 days on this tour when walking tours can cover 3 to 4 miles over uneven terrain. You can handle altitudes up to 6,000 feet.

You’re an on-the-go traveler. You don’t want to miss a thing, so walking and standing for longer periods of time (2-3 hours) isn’t a big deal. A moderately paced two-and-a-half-hour walking tour, covering several miles, hills, and uneven surfaces, is no problem for you. Walking four miles over the course of a day is very doable, as is climbing into and out of various modes of transportation (tuk-tuk, cable car, zodiac, etc.). You can climb three flights of stairs easily and handle altitudes between 6,000 and 9,000 feet. Expect some longer days balanced with free time to recharge or set out on your own adventure. This level is not a fit for travelers who require mobility assistance devices.

You’re ready to seize the day, whatever it may bring. You lead an active life at home (walking, biking, and half or full day hikes are things you may enjoy) and 10,000 steps a day is normal for you. You can handle longer walking tours (more than 3 hours covering 3+ miles at a steady clip) and activities that involve traversing uneven terrain, steep slopes, standing for periods of time, and varying altitudes and temperatures. You don’t mind being on the go with some early starts, late-nights, and full days. You can handle altitudes of 9,000 feet or higher with little to no issue. This level is not appropriate for travelers who use wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility assistance devices.

26 tours you can still book for summer 2024

It happens to the best of us: The calendar hits June, and that summer vacation you meant to plan never came together.

But fear not: There are plenty of multi-day guided tours that still have availability for this summer. And by opting for a tour, most of the planning has already been taken care of by someone else—a real plus if you’re scheduling at the last minute.

BEST OF THE BEST: Best tour companies for guided tours

I’ve rounded up some of the best guided tour options that still have availability during the summer months. Some of these departures are even on sale. Just don’t wait too long to secure your spot.

United States

Act fast and you can still snag a space on a July sailing of Smithsonian Journey’s Cruising Alaska’s Inside Passage trip. The nine-day, small-ship cruise travels from Vancouver to Sitka, taking in fjords, icebergs, glaciers, and other dramatic scenery along the way.

Road Scholar’s Hike, Paddle & Float: Outdoor Adventures in the Grand Tetons tour still has availability for August dates. The six-day trip based out of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, explores the Grand Tetons by raft, canoe, aerial tram, and hiking trails.

ROAD SCHOLAR DEEP DIVE: Is Road Scholar right for you?

Take an active August excursion with VBT Bicycling Vacations’ Maine: Acadia National Park guided bike tour. The five-day trip includes rides along Mount Desert Island’s network of carriage roads plus a Maine lobster bake.

Redwoods, gold mines, the Golden Gate Bridge: Those are just some of the sights you’ll see on Globus’ Golden State of Mind: Northern California by Design tour. The nine-day trip still has availability on its August departure. (Read our review of this tour itinerary.)

Dates in July and August are still available for Backroads’ Banff to Yoho Walking & Hiking Tour . The six-day trip takes participants to three national parks in the Canadian Rockies, taking in views of spots like Lake Lousie and the Plain of Six Glaciers.

KNOW MORE: Everything you need to know about Backroads

Experts share insight on regional geology, flora, fauna, and history during Road Scholar’s Hike the Discovery Trail: Five Centuries of Newfoundland Coastal Life tour. The eight-day trip travels the island’s coastline and still has space on July and August departures.

Hike, e-bike, and raft through some spectacular scenery with an all-female group on AdventureWomen’s Canadian Rockies: The Ultimate Active Outdoor Adventure tour. The seven-day trip that explores spots like Lake Louise and Banff still has space on its July 21-27, 2024, tour.

Travel from Dublin to Northern Ireland on Collette’s Shades of Ireland tour, which still has lots of summer availability. The 13-day trip includes visits to many well-known sights like Blarney Castle, Killarney National Park, the Cliffs of Moher, and the walled city of Derry.

There are still spots on June and August departures for Trafalgar’s Best of Spain tour. The 15-day excursion takes travelers to scenic cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Granada, Seville, and Cordoba.

COMPANY REVIEW: Here’s the scoop on Trafalgar

Spend 15 days winding through Germany, Poland, Hungary, Austria, and the Czech Republic on Costsaver’s Highlights of Bohemia tour. You’ll explore the area’s arts, architecture, and history, and departures in June, July, and August still have space.

Book the Irish Highlights tour from Brendan Vacations to see sights like the Ring of Kerry, Cliffs of Moher, and House of Waterford Crystal. The seven-day trip visits cities like Dublin, Galway, and Limerick and still has availability in June, July, and August.

There’s still room on June, July, and August departures of Globus’ Italian Vista trip. The eight-day tour travels from Rome to Milan with lots of sightseeing and good food along the way.

If pedaling your way around Europe sounds like a perfect summer vacation, Butterfield & Robinson still has some July availability for its Burgundy Wine Country Biking tour and space in August on its Alsace e-Biking trip.

Hike and bike your way through scenic Swiss landscapes on Backroads’ Switzerland Multi-Adventure Tour, which still has good summer availability for adults , families with teens and older kids , and families with older teens and 20s .

Does an amble around a Scottish loch followed by a smoky single-malt whiskey sound like your idea of heaven? Grab a spot on Country Walkers’ Scotland: The Highlands tour, which still has availability in July and August.

There are still spots available for July and August departures of Intrepid’s Croatia Family Holiday . On the eight-day trip, families will experience everything from local cuisine to the walled city of Dubrovnik that should look familiar to Game of Thrones fans.

THE SCOOP: Here’s what to know about Intrepid

Exodus Adventure Travels still has July and August availability for its Walking the Amalfi Coast tour. The eight-day trip includes a trek through a section of the Path of the Gods, beach time in Conca dei Marini, and a day trip to Pompeii. And if August in the Alps sounds appealing, Exodus’ Mont Blanc Highlights tour also has space that month.

There’s still space on the August sailing of Smithsonian Journey’s Danube River Cruise . The 16-day sailing visits eight countries and multiple World Heritage sites as it travels the Danube River between Bulgaria and Bavaria.

Latin America

July and August dates are still available for Road Scholar’s 11-day Rim to Shore: Costa Rica Multi-Sport Adventure and the nine-day Costa Rica: Three Jewels in Paradise tour. Both trips include rafting experiences and opportunities for cultural interactions.

Always dreamed of taking a safari? There are still spots left for late June and August departures for Collette’s African Safari: Kenya and Tanzania tour. The 15-day trip includes safari excursions in search of Africa’s “Big 5” plus opportunities to connect with local communities and artisans.

G Adventure’s Morocco Kasbahs & Desert tour offers both visits to must-see spots and free time for exploring on your own. The eight-day trip, which includes experiences like a desert camel ride and a guided tour of the Fès medina, still has availability in June, July, and August.

Intrepid’s South Korea Family Holiday explores everything from Korean BBQ and K-pop culture to mediation, martial arts, and other Korean cultural traditions. The eight-day tour still has space on departures in late June, July, and August.

Middle East

Float in the Dead Sea, overnight in a Bedouin tent, and explore the ancient city of Petra on G Adventure’s Highlights of Jordan tour. The eight-day trip still has good availability in June, July, and August.
