If you are in Medellin or anywhere in Antioquia and are looking for a weekend escape to a quiet little country village then look no further than Urrao , a town in the Andes mountains of the Cordillera Oriental at 1,830 meters (6,000 feet). With a year round cool climate, the village is just 160 km. outside of Medellin.

The town gets busy on the weekends but during the week it is calm and quiet. One can stroll through the town’s streets, go the the nearby market, take walks in the valley along the Penderisco River or hike paths in the nearby mountains.

One easy hike is a path following the large white stations of the cross up the mountain. The path and crosses can be seen from town.

Paramo del Sol

Many hikers used to come Urrao to trek to the Paramo del Sol , a nature reserve and tropical rainforest at 2,380 meters (9,284 feet) above sea level and reaching 4,080 meters (13,385 feet) at its highest point. Chiva buses go from the town to the paramo’s trail head, a 40 minute ride costing 5,000 COP. From there it’s 14 kilometer (8.6 mile) trek that takes 7 hours from the base to the top.

Unfortunately the Paramo has been temporarily closed because visitors had been destroying plants and trees and leaving behind lots of trash. The closure has cut down on the flow of tourism to town. So if you’re coming to hike the paramo, check first to see if the reserve has reopened.

The town of Urrao is a delight. It sits on the valley floor next to the Penderisco River. Men on horseback trot down the streets. The days are warm and the nights cool with an average temperature of 60 degrees F. (15.7 C.). It’s a tranquil village of just 16,000 people with lots of coffee shops and bakeries. On the main square there is San Jose Church . Walking south on Cra. 32 there is the Plaza del Mercado where there is large coffee cooperative.

Urrao is Famous for its Coffee Production

Until recently Urrao had been overlooked as a coffee-producing region. It was thought too cold to grow good coffee despite having some of the most fertile land in Antioquia. But a number of small farmers, most with farms no larger than 1.5 hectares (3.7 acres), are growing unique varietals of coffee beans and Lulu fruits. While they produce very little coffee it is in high demand due to its characteristics and complexities.

There are several unique and internationally prized coffee varietals grown in the mountains around the village:

Valle del Penderisco , Chiroso Urra o and Heirloom Caturra are coffee varietals that have adapted very well to Urrao’s high mountain climate. They produce coffees with good acidity, hints of melon, kiwi, strawberry, stewed plums, and dark chocolate. These beans are mostly exported but they can be found in town.

A 12oz. (355 ml.) bag of roasted coffee beans from Urrao will sell for up to $23 a bag on the gourmet coffee circuit. But the coffee cooperative of Urrao only pays the farmers $1.80 (7,500 COP) per pound of coffee beans picked, hulled and dried. The biggest profits, as always, go to the exporters, importers, distributors and retailers.

The mountains surrounding the town also draw a lot of bird watchers even though a lot of tree cover has been lost to fires.

There are nice, inexpensive hotels in town. I stayed at the pleasant Hotel Colonial on the main square where a nice double room was just 85,000 COP ($20) per night. Dining options are limited but there are a few restaurants in town serving up standard Colombian fare.

How to Get There

There are two different roads to get to the village by bus or car. Unfortunately both routes are bone crushing bus trips. But on the up side, both roads go through the spectacular Colombian countryside of southwest Antioquia. The routes depart from the south bus terminal of Medellin.

A bus ticket to Urrao costs 45,000 COP per person for the 160 km. (100 miles) trek and takes 5 hours. The bus goes down the road to Bolombolo – Quibdo probably the easiest stretch, then takes the road north to Betulia and Quebradona . This road is mostly dirt.

Another route is from the town of Santa Fe, north of Medellin, to Urrao. This road is also a dusty, dirt road. It’s basically just a one way road through the mountains and every time a truck comes in the opposite direction, someone has to back up into a driveway. This trek takes 5 hours just to get to Santa Fe from Urrao and another 1.5 hours to Medellin.

I went back to Medellin this way. I spent the night in Santa Fe where it is always very hot with accommodations more expensive than in Medellin.

The bus stations are in the main square of Urrao and there are buses to Santa Fe every hour or so. But be careful if traveling back on a Sunday as the bus tickets sell out quickly. Buy your return ticket the day before if possible.

The easiest way to get to the base of this hike is to get an Uber/taxi from wherever you are located in the city. However, if you would like to use public transport the nearest Medellín Metro station is the Los Alpes Metroplús station near the Los Molinos mall. Head to the Envigado metro station and catch the bus that’s waiting at the Arenales sign. The ticket cost is $0.69, and the journey takes about 20 minutes.

Arenales Waterfall Hike is one of the most popular hikes Medellin offers. The hike goes through a pine forest and along the way you will see two waterfalls and the remains of La Catedral, which is the infamous prison of Pablo Escobar. After passing the prison and the waterfalls, you head out of the forest into Arenales. Once you get here, you will be greeted with views across Medellin. There are some difficult sections of terrain to tackle but overall this 2 hours hike isn’t challenging in terms of length and is almost all downhill.

You can book a taxi/uber or get on one of the many buses heading up into the hills to take you there which is even cheaper and easier if you are in Envigado area.

If you are interested in hiking and exploring the Coffee Triangle, which is a combination of jungle and coffee plantations. Recommend hike in El Salado Eco Park. This nature reserve is located approximately 25 minutes outside Medellin, and there are various lengths of trails to hike. Anywhere from 30-minute walks to full day treks.

Each trail offers something different, and there are options for all abilities. After your hike, stop at the coffee plantation to enjoy a delicious cup of locally-produced coffee.

Another popular hike Medellin offers is Parque Arvi. To get here, drop off at the Acevedo stop and from there it’s quite easy to find your way to the cable car.

The Parque Arvi via Cerro Pan de Azucar hike offers excellent views and it is popular because the hike takes you to two of Medellin’s top attractions; the Metrocable gondola and Parque Arvi.

This hike can be completed between 3-4 hours, although it can take longer if you spend some time in Parque Arvi.

Head to Bello Metro Station and get on the bus that says “Potreritos” because the trail begins close to the last drop-off point of the bus.

Swimming is not recommended here but the waterfalls itself is over 100 meters along with the views of the Bello municipality down below. The hiking trail is about 3.5 km but steep and takes about 2 hours which will lead you to the base of the waterfall. You can also continue up to the mountain to hike all the way up to San Felix Paragliding Launch, the paragliding home of the Abura Valley. If you are up for a bit of adventure you could also fly back down the hill instead of hiking!

Get on to the northernmost Medellin metro station, and from there the hike is all the way up.

So basically this hike starts at the metro station and then goes through a prehistoric trail where you will see ruins and breathtaking views along the way. It is a bit of hard work to climb to the top of the mountain, but once you are there the sense of accomplishment is a real reward. Don’t miss the swimming hole at the bottom of the mountain while hiking down.

The easiest way to start the Cerro Tusa hike is to get on an uber/taxi to Venecia pueblo. Alternatively, you can take a bus from the Terminal del Sur bus station. The bus journey takes approx 1hour 45 mins, and drop off at Parque Venecia, in the middle of the town.

This hike is famous because when you complete this hike you will see Cerro Tusa one of Colombia’s largest natural pyramids. It is a strenuous and challenging hike as it involves a lot of scrambling to arrive at the summit. There is also an elevation gain of 1,600 feet. Depending on your fitness level, this hike can take more than 4 hours to complete.

The straightforward way to get to the Paramo del Sol from Medellin is to get on a direct bus to Urrao cost 25000 COP from the principal transport terminal. After you arrive at Urrao, take a Chiva for 5000 COP from the main square to the spot where the trek begins. This Chiva ride takes about 30-45 mins.

The Paramo del Sol trek can be done in a day but takes about 7 hours so if you have some time, recommend allocating 3-4 days and recommend going with a guide or on a group tour if you prefer. Not the wild orchids, hummingbird beehives, and unique scenery along the way.

Arrive at the town of Fredonia and you can start the hike to the town of Venecia while climbing the challenging Cerro Bravo along the way. Probably best to do it on the group tour from Medellin hiking companies if possible because they look after you round trip along the dirt roads, narrow trails, and through the Andean Forest. The best views of the mountain itself and the Antioquian landscape below are worth the hike.

Cerro Bravo is also known as ‘Angry Mountain’ and is one of many amazing hikes Medellin and its surroundings have to offer.

This is an easy day trip either via public transportation or Uber/taxi. There are about 600+ stairs you can climb to get to the top of the El Penon rock which is one of the natural wonders of Colombia. The view behind the rock is an amazing landscape of the sea and the greenery that surrounds it. After the rock, you can visit the colorful Guatape town with beautiful colonial architecture. So this day is walking all day pretty much.

The páramo del Sol, one of the best preserved ecosystems of this type in Colombia, is located on the western mountain range near the municipality of Urrao, it is part of a complex of páramo and high Andean forest ecosystems, of which the municipalities of Abriaquí, Caicedo and Frontino.

This great tour will be divided into 3 days, we will start by entering the Proaves reserve where we will be able to see approximately 12 different species of hummingbirds, some of them endemic, our main objective will be to reach the top of bells, the maximum height of the páramo with 3,987 meters above sea level, where in addition to the great view over the western mountain range and the municipality of Urrao we can visit the lagoon and the polylepis forest, we will also observe a large number of frailejones characteristic of this ecosystem._cc781905-5cde-3194-bb3b -136bad5cf58d_

The Traveler's Guide to Hiking in Medellin

While the center of Medellin in surrounding the city is a diverse landscape that includes mountains, rivers, waterfalls, jungles, and much more. Therefore, there is plenty to explore for those who love the outdoors. Amongst the stunning landscape are multiple trails to enjoy, and many of these will treat you to spectacular sights of the magnificent surroundings. Here is a traveler's guide to hiking in Medellin to help you navigate the local landscape and make the most of your surroundings.

Cerro de las Tres Cruces

According to The Unconventional Route , Medellin's best hike is the Cerro de las Cruces. Although this is a relatively short walk, it is challenging due to the terrain and elevation, so it is classed as a moderate walk overall. The hike involves walking up a steep hill to the summit, which is a popular outdoor workout spot. There are excellent views to admire at the summit. It is a 1.5-mile there-and-back hike that will take between 40 minutes and one hour and 20 minutes.

Cuevas del Higueron

A great hike for seeing some beautiful natural landmarks is Cuevas del Higueron. The hike takes you through Parque El Salado, and you will see caves, a waterfall, a river, and an ancient trail. The trail is 4.5-miles and has an elevation gain of 1,600 feet. It takes approximately four hours to complete this there-and-back trail.

Arenales Waterfall Hike

If you like your hikes to have a purpose, such as seeing a specific sight, then the Arenales Waterfall Hike is a fantastic option. There are two waterfalls to see along this hike, and you will also see the remains of La Catedral, which is the infamous prison of Pablo Escobar. The hike takes you through a pine forest that then leads into the jungle. After passing the prison and the waterfalls, you head out of the forest into Arenales. From this point, you can appreciate views across Medellin. Although the two-hour walk is not challenging in terms of length and is almost all downhill, there are some difficult sections of terrain to tackle. It is one of the most popular hikes in Medellin.

El Hato Waterfalls to San Felix Paragliding Launch

The hike takes you through the Bello neighborhood to the Chorro El Hato Waterfalls, and then you continue further up the hill to the paragliding launch at San Felix. If you fancy flying back down the hill instead of hiking, then this is your opportunity to do so. It is a moderate hike that will take a little more than two hours.

Parque Arvi via Cerro Pan de Azucar

The Parque Arvi via Cerro Pan de Azucar hike is one of the best hikes for enjoying excellent views. It is also popular because the hike takes you to two of Medellin's top attractions; the Metrocable gondola and Parque Arvi. Another reason to enjoy the hike is that you can enjoy a traditional Colombian meal at the end. The hike takes between three and four hours, although it can take longer if you spend some time in Parque Arvi. It is a one-way hike that covers 4.5-miles.

The Cerro Tusa Hike

Completing this hike is the chance to see one of Colombia's most impressive natural landmarks, as Cerro Tusa is the largest natural pyramid in the world, says Medellin Advisors . It is a hike that only physically fit people or experienced hikers should attempt as there is a lot of scrambling involved to reach the summit. Although the hike is only three miles there-and-back, the terrain is challenging, and there is an elevation of 1,600 feet. Therefore, you can expect this hike to take more than four hours to complete.

Cerro Quitasol

The hike begins at the metro station and then takes you along a pre-historic trail, and you will see ruins and breathtaking views along the way. Although it is a strenuous climb to the top of the mountain, it will give you a real sense of accomplishment. The hike back down is less strenuous, and there is a swimming hole at the bottom of the mountain, so there is the option to take a quick dip. It is a challenging hike that covers seven miles, although there is the option to complete shorter sections of the hike.

The Paramo del Sol

The Paramo del Sol is also called the otherworldly trek as it boasts a diverse and unusual natural environment that you will not find anywhere else in the world. It is not close to Medellin, but it is worth traveling the extra distance for the experience. It is a hike for experienced hikers that will take a full day to complete, as it is a minimum of seven hours. As you trek through the moss jungle, you will see wild orchids, hummingbird beehives, and unique scenery.

Guatape Hike

Just outside Medellin, you can hike to the top of a massive rock, which is one of the natural wonders of the region, says Via Hero . The Rock of Guatape is set against a backdrop of a rolling landscape. At the end of the trek, you arrive in Guatape, a quaint and colorful town that boasts colonial architecture. You can enjoy this hike by taking a bus from Medellin to Guatape.

El Salado Eco Park

While in Colombia, you should explore the Coffee Triangle, which consists of a combination of jungle and coffee plantations. El páramo del sol está ubicado en uno de los puntos más altos del departamento de Antioquia, en el municipio de Urrao ubicado a cinco horas de Medellín. Su altura máxima es de 4.080 metros sobre el nivel del mar.

En este territorio habitan frailejones, miles de aves y otras especies de fauna y flora. Además, es el hogar natural del oso de anteojos.

Nuestros recorridos duran 3 días y 2 noches, en donde cruzaremos por bosque, visitaremos la reserva Pro Aves y luego llegaremos al territorio del páramo. Las dos noches las pasaremos en el campamento base, rodeados de frailejones y desde donde contemplaremos nuestra meta para el próximo día.

The Paramo Trek is an intermediate high-altitude hike that takes you into the highlands of the Andes whereto will walk through one of Colombia’s rarest mountain ecosystems, the Paramo.

After crossing the cloud forest and reaching the plateau, enjoy lunch by a small lake then descend via a different trail and walk on a mystical ridge though the cloud forest. On the way back, visit the charming village of Belmira and sit in the small cafe to sip hot ” agua Panela”.

Meet your professional guide 7 a.m. at our offices near Poblado (calle 8 #43a-89, Medellín).
Start a scenic drive for 2 hours to Belmira village.
Climb a steep incline for 2 hours until you reach Lake “Bebedero” in National Park of Belmira.
Enjoy lunch and snacks at the lake.
Continue to walk for 4 hours in a loop on an intermediate trail back to the village of Belmira.
Return to Medellín by 6 pm* traffic dependent.

After breakfast, meet your bilingual guide at 7 a.m. at our offices near Poblado (calle 8 #43a-89, Medellín). Our hiking guide greets you to drive two hours to the village of Belmira, a Spanish-style town located at an altitude of 2,500 m. From the Belmira Cathedral and plaza, take on your intermediate day hike and climb nearly 700 meters in elevation.

As you hike, encounter endemic plants you may have never seen before in your life and discover Colombia’s rarest ecosystem: high-altitude páramo. Páramo are high alpine zones just above the forest line and below the permanent snowline which, according to scientists, are “evolutionary hot spots” with some of the fastest evolving plant systems in the world. In this landscape it is difficult to place where you are: desert, coral reef, high-altitude tundra? There are mountainsides of cacti circling alpine lakes, coral-like plants growing from marshes, and blossoming flowers on succulent plants.

Although all plants are distinct, they share an ability to absorb great amounts of water in the most arid of conditions. For this reason, the Páramo, and not the Amazon rainforest, is largely responsible for Colombia’s water supply. This ecosystem stores water in marshes that drain into groundwater to supply countless Andean rivers. After your hike, drive two hours back to Medellín and return to your boutique hotel located in Poblado by 6 p.m.

PARAMILLO DEL QUINDÍO

An amazing three days circuit, in which we go across rivers and water streams, ascend through the cloud forest and enter to the paramo ecosystem.

Los Nevados National Park is located on the central mountain range of the Colombian Andes and has an extension of 61,200 hectares, a maximum altitude of 5,321 meters (Nevado del Ruiz summit), and a minimum altitude of 2,600 meters at the Andean forests. The Park is located between Caldas, Risaralda, Quindío and Tolima departments. Its wide geography features three volcanoes (Ruiz, Santa Isabel and Tolima), large paramo areas (alpine moorland), forests, lakes and rivers where many species of animals and plants live; some of theme endangered species.

The journey detailed below is a beautiful three-day expedition with the aim of getting close to the Paramillo del Quindío while also enjoying the high Andean cloud forests with their rivers and streams. Additionally, we will explore the paramo, a beautiful ecosystem found in only five countries and of great importance in conserving water sources.

The trip starts in the beautiful and picturesque town of Salento, Quindio, in the coffee region. After breakfast, we will meet at the main square where a traditional Willys Jeep will take us to the beautiful Cocora Valley, 12 Km from Salento. During the beautiful ascent we will go across creeks and cloud forests that will finally turn into paramo, a very special ecosystem that only exist in five countries. During our hike we will enjoy a typical lunch wrapped in leafs. We will continue our trip until we reach a humble, heartwarming place called La Argentina, which has a beautiful view to the canyon. In La Argentina, we will have dinner and also the opportunity to share with locals that inhabit the place. We will spend the night there in shared rooms.

We will start the day with a nutritious breakfast before leaving our luggage with the mules. Then, we will begin our hike towards the majestic Paramillo del Quindío. Before reaching its base, we will detour to a place known as La Línea, situated at an altitude of 4,000 meters above sea level, from where we will commence our descent to reach La Playa farm, located at 3,700 meters above sea level. Once at La Playa, we will enjoy a comforting lunch and take the afternoon to rest and organize the high mountain equipment that we will need for the next day of the expedition. Later, we will savor a delicious dinner and prepare ourselves for a well-deserved rest.

After breakfast, we will initiate our descent to Cocora Valley. We will be going through a different rout than we ascended to allow us to enjoy others typical Andean’s landscapes. Once we reach the Cocora Valley we will take a vehicle to Salento, where our trip ends

Sights in Khamovniki District

Moscow’s central district of Khamovniki is situated directly south-west of the centre and south of the Arbat District within a curve of the River Moskva. Its is considered a rather elite district of Moscow. Its main streets are Ulitsa Volkhonka which branches off into Ulitsa Preschistenka and Ulitsa Ostozhenka. After the Garden Ring, which is made up here by Zubovsky Bulvar and Krimsky Bridge, the two streets become Ulitsa Bolshaya Pirogovskaya and Komsomolsky Prospekt respectively. The very tip of Khamovniki is located beyond the Third Ring Road and is occupied by the Luzhniki Olympic Complex. The district is served by Kropotkinskaya to Vorobyovy Gory metro stations on the red line.

Here's what we know about the four suspects in the Moscow concert hall attack

Each of the four defendants charged with committing a terrorist act in the Crocus City concert hall attack was brought to court individually in Moscow on Sunday.

They are accused of committing a crime under part 3, provision “b” of article 205 of the Russian Criminal Code (terrorist act), which the Russian Criminal Code states is punishable with up to life imprisonment.

Three pled guilty to all charges, according to state media news agency TASS .

Here's what we know about the accused:

Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev: The 32-year-old was the first defendant brought to court. Mirzoyev, from Tajikistan, had a temporary registration for three months in the southern Russian city of Novosibirsk in Siberia, but it expired, according to RIA Novosti.
Saidakrami Rachabalizoda: He appeared as the second defendant, and told the the court that he had Russian registration documents but couldn't remember where they were. He communicated through an interpreter, according to state media RIA Novosti. Rachabalizoda was reportedly born in 1994.
Shamsidin Fariduni: He was born in 1998 in Tajikistan and is a citizen of the Central Asian country. Fariduni was officially employed at a factory in the Russian city of Podolsk and was registered in the city of Krasnogorsk, according to state media RIA Novosti.
Muhammadsober Faizov: The fourth defendant appeared nonresponsive in a wheelchair and was accompanied by a doctor to his court appearance, as seen in Moscow City Court’s video shared on Telegram. Faizov was temporarily unemployed, before which he worked in a barber shop in Ivanovo, a city northeast of Moscow, and is registered in that city, according to state media RIA Novosti. He was reportedly born in 2004.

Moscow court orders preventive detention for all four defendants in concert hall attack case

The Basmanny District Court of Moscow on Sunday granted the investigators’ motion for detention, as the chosen preventative measure, for all four defendants in the Crocus City Hall attack case.

All four men have been remanded into pre-trial detention until May 22, stated Moscow City Court via Telegram.

They are all charged with committing a terrorist act, according to the courts of general jurisdiction of the city of Moscow, which under the Russian Criminal Code is punishable up to life imprisonment.

Each of the four defendants was brought to court individually on Sunday.

Three pled guilty to all charges, according to state media news agency TASS.

The names of the four accused in the case are Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, Saidakrami Rachabalizoda, Shamsidin Fariduni and Mukhammadsobir Faizov, Moscow City Courts announced via Telegram.

All four are from Tajikistan, a former Soviet republic, and have been in Russia on either temporary or expired visas.

The court held closed hearings for each of the accused with no members of the public allowed, TASS reported, citing the court’s press service.

2 defendants identified in Crocus City Hall attack

The first defendant in the Crocus City concert hall attack case, Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, has pleaded guilty on all counts, the press service of Moscow City Court told state media RIA Novosti.

He will be held in preventive custody at least through May 22.

Mirzoyev is one of two defendants implicated in the attack who are facing possible life imprisonment, as reported by state media.

The suspects — Mirzoyev and Saidakrami Rachabalizoda — appeared in a Moscow court on Sunday on charges related to the attack.

Both individuals are accused of committing a terrorist act and could be sentenced to life imprisonment, according to state media outlet RIA Novosti. The prosecution has requested detention as a precautionary measure for both defendants.

Authorities have petitioned the court to conduct Mirzoyev's hearing behind closed doors to safeguard the integrity of the proceedings, state media news agency TASS reported.

The attack on Moscow's popular Crocus City Hall that left at least 133 dead has become the deadliest attack in Russia since the Beslan school siege in 2004.

Some other recent attacks include:

September 26, 2022 : Eleven children and four adults were killed when a gunman wearing Nazi symbols opened fire at a school in the western Russian city of Izhevsk. The shooter, who was reportedly wearing a black T-shirt with Nazi insignia and a helmet, died by suicide following the attack.
April 3, 2017 : At least 11 people were killed in a blast on the St. Petersburg metro. The explosion tore through a train as it was traveling between two stations in Russia’s second-largest city.
October 31, 2015 : A Russian passenger jet, Metrojet Flight 9268 crashed on October 31 after departing from the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, killing all 224 people on board. US intelligence analysis suggested that ISIS or its affiliates planted a bomb on the plane .
December 30, 2013 : A massive explosion at a train station in the Russian city of Volgograd killed at least 16 people, including one police officer, the Investigative Committee of Russia said.
January 25, 2011 : A suicide bomber attacked Domodedovo Airport , Moscow's busiest airport, killing 35 people and wounding about 100, authorities and state television said.
March 29, 2010 : Two explosions rocked the subway stations in central Moscow during rush hour, killing at least 38 people and wounding more than 60 others, spawning widespread public outrage. A website associated with Chechen separatists, who have long fought for independence from Russia, claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Rescuers, robotic systems and canine teams are currently on site of Crocus City concert hall

More than 300 “specialists” and 154 pieces of equipment are currently on site at the Crocus City concert hall in Krasnogorsk, Moscow region, where a deadly attack took place Friday , Russia’s Ministry of Emergency Situations said on Telegram on Sunday.

The ministry said more than 400 cubic meters of structures had been dismantled by rescuers while specialized robotic systems, canine teams and psychologists from the ministry continue to work.

More than 1,600 calls have already been received on the department’s hotline, the ministry added.

The post was accompanied by a video showing dozens of emergency workers digging through the rubble of the partially burned-down concert hall.

Remember : At least 137 people died on Friday after attackers opened fire on civilians at the Crocus City concert hall, and set the building ablaze. The Islamic State group, also known as ISIS, has claimed the attack and released graphic footage purporting to show the incident.

Russian President Vladimir Putin lit a candle Sunday in memory of victims of the deadly attack at the Crocus City concert hall in Moscow region on Friday.

Putin also expressed deep condolences following the Moscow shooting, calling it a "barbaric terrorist act" in a video statement released Saturday.

More background: The deadly attack comes barely a week after Putin secured his fifth presidential term. The large-scale attack is damaging for a leader who portrays himself as someone able to guarantee order.

Death toll in concert hall attack rises to 137 — including 3 children, Russian Investigative Committee says

The Russian Investigative Committee has updated the death toll in the Crocus City attack to 137.

In a statement released online, the committee said "the bodies of 137 people have been found at the site of the terrorist attack, three of which are children."

The committee added that 62 bodies have been identified so far.

"For the remaining victims, genetic examinations are being carried out to establish their identities," the statement said. "The investigation of the crime scene continues."

Russian Embassy in US says it did not receive notification of impending terrorist attack

The Russian Embassy in Washington says it did not receive any warnings about a potential terror attack in Moscow from the US, Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov told Russian state news agency RIA Novosti on Sunday.

The US diplomatic mission had warned Americans to “avoid large gatherings” at the beginning of March due to reports “that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow.”

Earlier this week Putin had dismissed those warnings, telling the FSB that the embassy warnings were "provocative" and "outright blackmail."

“We did not receive any notifications or messages in advance,” Antonov told RIA.

“We paid attention to this, but,… I had no contacts with either the White House or the State Department on this issue,” he added.

In light of Friday’s attack at Crocus, Antonov told RIA Novosti that contacts between the US and the Russian Federation in the fight against terrorism have been “destroyed,” adding that the fault was not Moscow’s.

“I always reminded the Americans that our president was the first who, in 2001, extended his hand to the Americans and declared his readiness to provide help. And something worked, it worked... and it’s not our fault that all of this has been destroyed today,” he said.

Picking which swimsuits to wear in Costa del Sol is more than just a cosmetic choice, as how the array is distributed can affect Cloud's bonds with Tifa and Aerith. It isn't about appealing to anyone's individual sense of style, however, but simply a matter of matching vibes. If Cloud wears something that fits into the same basic category as what one of the girls is wearing, he'll raise his bond with her , and matching both will increase affection across the board.

Even though each character's options have their own unique flavor, it isn't too hard to pick out which ones go together. The skimpier, swim-oriented apparel is treated as one set, while casual choices that look appropriate for relaxing under an umbrella make up the other category. Breaking it down, the first line-up is Cloud's Wild Surf, Tifa's Shining Spirit, and Aerith's Pink Mermaid, and the second is Cloud's Ocean Chocobo, Tifa's Majestic Glamour, and Aerith's Floral Delight .

Trying to angle for one specific Gold Saucer date, however, can make things more complicated. Doing all the side content will result in every party member having a lot of affection for Cloud, so even minor choices could have significant sway in who ends up winning out when it comes to the date. If getting either Tifa or Aerith is an imperative, then it's best to match Cloud with one and not the other to take the edge provided by boosting affection on one end and not the other.

Relationship growth is complicated in FF7 Rebirth , as completing some side quests in the best way possible and using synergy skills can also affect matters.

If someone else besides Cloud's typical love interests catches the eye, giving Cloud a look that doesn't go with either Tifa or Aerith can help make it harder for either of them to take the lead. It's not possible to gain favor with anyone else through this process — nothing specifically matches with Barret's sailor suit, Yuffie hasn't yet officially joined the party, and Red XIII doesn't get dressed up at all — but not allocating any favor to an unwanted target is still helpful.

All of these concerns are still ultimately minor, and the odds of the swimsuit affair being the singular make-or-break choice for the Gold Saucer date in FF7 Rebirth aren't all that high. It can be useful knowledge to keep in mind, however, especially if it's hard to decide on what to wear otherwise.
