SWGoH: Unlocking Jedi Master Luke Skywalker – Live Blog & Walkthrough Guide

Jedi Master Luke Skywalker

Posted By: ljcool110 November 1, 2020

The second round of  Galactic Legend events in SWGoH is here, and unlike the months the community had to prepare for the first round, we had just a few short weeks to prepare for October 7, 2020, when players were allowed to start working toward opening the new Galactic Legend versions of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker and Sith Eternal Emperor. While I was able to fight in the event within minutes of the game’s update, I am beginning my journey to unlock Galactic Legend Jedi Master Luke Skywalker Thursday, October 8th.

Jedi Master Luke Skywalker

Below is my walkthrough/live blog guide of the journey to unlock Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. I hope you enjoy and can learn from this. I also have added links to some of my favorite (former) GameChangers and their videos below.

Tier I Rebel Characters Used:

  • Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker – Relic 7 – 32,283 power – 153 speed, 187k health/protection, 11,762 damage, 61.1% CC, 192% CD – Five 6-dot mods & one 5-dot mod (Offense & Health sets), all abilities maxed
  • R2-D2 – Relic 7 – 32,328 power – 294 speed, 114k health/protection, 5,610 damage, 107.74% potency – all 6-dot mods (Speed & Potency sets), all abilities maxed
  • Han Solo  – Relic 6 – 27,315 power – 247 speed, 103k health/protection, 7,379 damage, 100.41% CC, 226.5% CD – Three 6-dot mods & three 5-dot mods (CC & CD sets), all abilities maxed
  • Chewbacca  – Relic 6 – 30,385 power – 269 speed, 123k health/protection, 7,689 damage, 75.2% CC, 222% CD – Five 6-dot mods & one 5-dot mods (CD & Health sets), all abilities maxed
  • Lando Calrissian – Relic 5 – 23,271 power – 244 speed, 92k health/protection, 5,932 damage, 88.27% CC, 223.5% CD – Five 6-dot mods & one 5-dot mods (CD & Health sets), all abilities maxed

10.08.20 @ 7:30 am ET – I start with 56  Light Side Currency and need 15 to launch the first battle. This Light Side Currency can be gained by beating any Light Side battle, 1 piece at a time. Of course when you fight or sim a Light Side board, it’s all up to RNG on how many pieces you get as shown in my graphic to the right.

The Journey’s End –  Tier I

Tier I can be fought 8 times with rewards of 10 shards of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker each time, thus 80 shards can be obtained from this first Tier.

Attempt #1 –  Facing 5 enemies to start, we begin on the Desert Skiff in the Tattooine desert with Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 fighting. I do not have a real kill order, I just am sure to add stealth to R2 when possible, granting Luke advantage and letting him do the work. I watched Ahnald’s live stream and have found that my R2 has far more potency, a stat we highly recommend in the best mods for R2-D2 , than Ahnald’s did given I was able to land burning and stun debuffs throughout this battle. If you do want a kill order, I prefer to attack the three in the middle (the attackers) and leave the Gamorean Guards alone until the end. I do feel that the Gam Guards have lower tenacity than the attackers as my R2 seems to stun then more frequently.

The second wave of enemies include Boba Fett and several of Jabba’s hired workers against Han Solo (with Carbonite Sickness), Chewie and Lando. The target here is Boba Fett, and defeating him is what is needed to finish this board and gain 10 shards of JMLS, and with my team this was not a challenge. There is not need to hit the other enemies, so just kill Boba Fett and get your rewards.

Early Thoughts – Tier I:  This is much easier than the GL Rey & Kylo events in my opinion, and given how easy it is to lose progress and currency with the other Galactic Legend events I welcome this change. The graphics are well done.

The Journey’s End –  Tier II

Tier II can be fought 4 times with rewards of 25 shards of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker each time, thus 100 shards can be obtained from this second Tier which will get the player to a max of 180 shards after completing the max attempts on Tiers I and II.

Tier II Rebel Characters Used:

  • Princess Leia – Relic 3 – 21,432 power – 293 speed, 89k health/protection, 6,119 damage, 82.27% CC, 220.5% CD – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed – Five 6-dot mods & one 5-dot mods (CD & Health sets), all abilities maxed except unique – no zeta
  • C-3PO – Relic 5 – 30,436 power – 274 speed, 128k health/protection, 115.99% potency – 5 6-dot mods & 1 5-dot mod (2 Health & 1 Potency set), all abilities maxed

Attempt #1 –  After watching the comedic live streak from Ahnald where he lost with one Stormtrooper left his first time around, I am hoping that I can learn from that as I fight this battle and not lose 30 Light Side Currency.  Targeting the Scout Troopers whenever possible, getting C-3PO to land the confusion debuff on the Stormtroopers is critical to the success of these battles. The first two waves of enemies prove to be a breeze and when I get to the third wave I am able to stun the Stormtrooper Commander and kill a Scout Trooper before the enemies take a turn. Once I get the enemies down to three left – Stormtrooper Commander, a Stormtrooper and a Scout Trooper – they kill Han Solo, but I am able to fend them off and get the victory.

The Journey’s End –  Tier III

Tier iii rebel characters used:.

  • Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker – Relic 7 – 32,328 power – 234 speed, 164k health/protection, 10,541 damage, 59.4% CC, 192% CD – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed – All 6-dot mods (Offense & Tenacity sets), all abilities maxed

10.10.20 – Saving the Heroes Arise ability for when needed to recover Health & Protection, I was able to get past Darth Vader the first time I tried this battle. Thanks to AhnaldT101 for his video trial and error for helping show to use this strategy. With Emperor Palpatine, I just used the first two abilities and got him to yellow health before Vader stepped in. Honestly I did not think I was going to win this first one, but 50 shards of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker were my reward. Two more wins and I can unlock JMLS.

My second time around was easier, but it is clear that there is little margin for error in this battle. Using the Stalwart Advance special ability whenever available and following it with the basic is the key, as is the modding of JKLS.

10.12.20 – Needing just one more win to unlock Jedi Master Luke I fought using the same mods and strategy and RNG got the best of me. Honestly, when a character is maxed out and has all 6-dot mods it is crappy to have RNG be the determinant of the battle’s outcome, but this is the hand we are dealt… I decided to adjust my mods a bit for my next run – let’s see how this plays out.

  • Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker – Relic 7 – 32,328 power – 216 speed, 170k health/protection, 11,367 damage, 59.83% CC, 150% CD – all 6-dot mods, all abilities maxed – All 6-dot mods (Offense & Tenacity sets), all abilities maxed

10.14.20 – As you can see I lowered Jedi Knight Luke’s speed a bit in exchange for more health & protection, more damage and CC remained almost the same while CD is down to 150%. I am sticking with the Offense and Tenacity sets for now despite the urge to look at CC, Health or Defense as the second mod set.

To the battle, Vader’s saber throw nearly does me in, but I have just enough survivability to make it through. Honestly, more survivability or even Crit Avoidance is not a bad idea as the saber throw is what will or will not do you in. Now fighting Papa Palpatine, the Repulse special is in play since the Emperor can be stunned (unlike Vader), then it is just a matter of finishing him off and watching the two-handed Darth Vader (oops CG!) throw him over the edge. This bidding worked, but it certainly was not comfortable.

The Journey’s End –  Tier IV

Now that I have maxed out my Light Side currency I am beginning Tier IV so I can get an awesome reward – a worthless portrait. Honestly I hate this part of the Galactic Legends content more than most anything else in this game…

Tier IV Rebel Characters Used:

  • Jedi Master Luke Skywalker – Relic 5 – 45,964 power – 499 speed, 208k health/protection, 7,846 special offense, 64.5% Armor – Six 6-dot mods (Speed & Health sets), all abilities maxed
  • Obi-Wan Kenobi – Relic 5 – 28,912 power – 230 speed, 125k health/protection, 51.88% potency, 75.4% Armor – all 6-dot mods (Health, Defense & Tenacity sets), all abilities maxed
  • Rey (Jedi Training)  – Relic 7 – 35,263 power – 269 speed, 127k health/protection, 6,081 damage, 91.43% CC, 216% CD – Five 6-dot mods & one 5-dot mod (CC & CD sets), all abilities maxed
  • Hermit Yoda  – Relic 5 – 28,912 power – 312 speed, 152k health/protection, 57.7% Armor – Six 6-dot mods  (Speed & Health sets), all abilities maxed
  • Jedi Knight Anakin – character provided

10.19.20 @ 1:10 pm ET – The battle takes place on Crait and the use of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker’s ultimate ability is the first action to take. I start the battle by trying to have Luke land Buff Immunity on the FOST, then decide to just abandon that after it fails the first time, and remove Hux ASAP. Killing Hux takes longer than expected, but seeing Luke use his AoE special it is clear that this is the key to this battle as is crazy powerful here.

The Journey’s End –  Tier V

Tier v rebel characters used:.

10.19.20 @ 1:15 pm ET – Fighting the same battle as Tier IV, this again takes place on Crait and the use of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker’s ultimate ability is again the first action to take. This time I just focus on Luke getting to use his turns to use his AoE as much as possible, as this is once again an easy battle with my character makeup.

Thoughts so far: The second round of Galactic Challenges is an improvement over the first round with Rey and SL Kylo, but Tiers IV and V are still a waste. In my opinion they should spread out the shards or something instead of making us earn 70 tickets to fight for worthless prizes like a portrait or title. I do applaud CG for replacing the rock, paper, scissors in Tier III. Even though the battle is harder (at least here on the Light Side), at least such an important battle is not a complete RNG-fest.

The Journey’s End –  Tier VI

Tier vi rebel characters used:.

  • Obi-Wan Kenobi – Relic 5 – 28,642 power – 210 speed, 127k health/protection, 94.62% potency, 66.5% Armor – all 5-dot mods (2 Health & 1 Potency sets), all abilities maxed

10.21.20 – I am fighting this today with my regular mods on each character which is easier than switching them around given moving mods is my single most disliked aspect of this game. There is a strategy to this battle, so I start off with Jedi Master Luke’s ultimate, then pass Inherited Teachings to Jedi Knight Anakin with JMLS and Hermit Yoda and then have JKA use his AoE to get Offense Up. From there JMLS uses his specials the rest of the way and each of your allies will die after taking their turns. Using the specials should do Supreme Leader Kylo in and make for a rather quick and easy battle.

11.01.20 – Today I finish off the JMLS ultimate after going 10 for 10 with the strategy/attack order above. Now to focus more on the Dark Side so I can start a live blog guide for unlocking Sith Eternal Emperor soon…

Chewbacca & C-3PO are required for this tier but will not be used in battle. They will be replaced by another character (Threepio & Chewie) whose stats are scaled based on Chewbacca's stats, including mods. This character is not obtainable and can't be used in any other event or game mode.

Before Luke is able to finish his training, he heads to Cloud City, where he must face off against Darth Vader.

Strategy Tips: - Vader will use everything in his power to subdue Luke

Requires Darth Vader

As the fight continues, Vader pushes Luke to join him and embrace the dark side of the Force.

Boba Fett - Donning a suit of Mandalorian armor previously owned by Jango Fett, Boba Fett would become one of the most notorious bounty hunters in the galaxy by the time of the Galactic Civil War. Following his father Jango's death during the Clone Wars, Boba, an unaltered clone of Jango, would put his years of combat training with his father to good use as he built his reputation. On many occasions, Boba would take on contracts from the Galactic Empire and Jabba the Hutt, contributing to his legendary status.

Commander Luke Skywalker - After the Battle of Yavin and the destruction of the first Death Star, Luke Skywalker continued serving with the rebellion, earning the rank of Commander by the time the Alliance set up their base on Hoth. Following the Battle of Hoth, Luke started his Jedi training with Yoda on the planet Dagobah. Luke left Dagobah prior to completing his training in order to save his friends on Cloud City. After arriving he would learn a terrible truth about Darth Vader.

Commander Luke Skywalker (Hoth) - After the Battle of Yavin and the destruction of the first Death Star, Luke Skywalker continued serving with the rebellion, earning the rank of Commander by the time the Alliance set up their base on Hoth.

Imperial Officer - Imperial officers comprised the higher ranks of the Imperial war machine. Officers' duties ranged from leading Stormtroopers, commanding starships, and identifying and removing those within the Empire deemed disloyal to the Emperor. Officers were often characterized by a similar ruthlessness and ambition to that of the Emperor himself.

Snowtrooper - Snowtroopers were a specialized variant of Stormtroopers employed by the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War. Trained for operations in extreme cold, Snowtroopers relied on specialized equipment to protect them from the harsh conditions. Snowtroopers commanded by Darth Vader were able to take over Echo Base during the Battle of Hoth, forcing the rebels to flee the planet after considerable losses.

Snowtrooper Commander - Identifiable by a small red & blue insignia on their chestplate, Snowtrooper commanders otherwise appeared identical to their subordinates. Commanders in the Stormtrooper Corps were responsible for commanding rank & file troopers and were integral to allowing coordinated attacks while on the ground and in the heat of battle.

Snowtrooper Ops - Elite Stormtroopers selected for special operations, Stormtrooper Black Ops operatives were deployed on particularly dangerous or important missions for the Empire, often off the record. Equipped with specialized equipment tailored to their assignment, these troopers were trained for every eventuality.

Stormtrooper - Donning imposing white armor, Stormtroopers were the Empire's elite soldiers and could be found in almost all corners of the galaxy during the Empire's reign. Loyal to the point of fanaticism, Stormtroopers utilized all manner of ordnance to great effect against the Empire's enemies, but were most commonly equipped with the E-11 blaster rifle.

Tie Advanced - The TIE Advanced x1, was a prototype starfighter used by Darth Vader during the Galactic Civil War. Unlike standard TIE models, the TIE Advanced x1 was equipped with both a deflector shield generator and a hyperdrive. Vader's personal TIE Advanced x1 was customized to his specifications, including a cluster missile launcher in addition to the standard laser cannons.

Tie Bomber - The TIE/sa, or TIE bomber, was a light bomber variant of the TIE line of starfighters distinguished by its unique shape that included two central pods; one for the pilot and one for the ordnance load. TIE bombers were primarily used in air support roles and could be outfitted with a number of munitions including bombs, missiles, torpedoes, and mines.

Tie Fighter - The TIE/ln space superiority starfighter, or TIE fighter, was one of the Empire's most prolific symbols during the Galactic Civil War. Lightly armed and without deflector shields, TIE fighters used their superior speed, maneuverability, and sheer numbers to defeat their rebel adversaries throughout the conflict.

Darth Vader - Once one of the most powerful and heroic Jedi Knights, Darth Vader's quest for power led him to the dark side of the Force. Through his training as apprentice to Darth Sidious, Vader became the infamous Dark Lord of the Sith. Serving his dark master for decades, Vader hunted down the remnants of the Jedi Order and attempted to crush the growing rebellion against the Empire, before a secret from his past threatened his Master's grand plan.

Veers - A ruthless general in the Galactic Empire, Maximillian Veers is most known for the integral part he played in the Battle of Hoth. Leading the ground assault on the planet Hoth, Veers deployed fearsome AT-AT walkers to destroy the Rebel Alliance's shield generator and transport legions of Snowtroopers to the surface, forcing the rebels to flee the planet, right into an Imperial blockade in the space above.

Wampa - Wampas are fearsome, furred beasts native to the ice planet Hoth. Sporting sharp fangs and large claws, these lumbering bipeds make short work of prey such as tauntauns. Despite their size, their white fur allows them to blend into the icy terrain and remain stealthy. One such wampa was able to get the drop on Luke Skywalker while he was out investigating a disturbance just prior to the Battle of Hoth.
