Suri Cruise was photographed celebrating her 18th birthday in New York City while her estranged father, Tom Cruise, worked abroad in London.

According to pictures obtained by Page Six, the birthday girl stepped out in the rainy weather with a friend on Thursday. The pals chatted as Suri held a pink umbrella over their heads.

The teen, who is also the daughter of Katie Holmes, wore jeans, a denim jacket over a brown shirt and black shoes. She carried a blue backpack and held what looked like a birthday gift in her hand.

A day before Suri’s big day, her father, Tom, was spotted overseas in London filming a new project.

The “Mission Impossible” star, 61, flashed a wide grin as he arrived at a helipad and piloted a jet.

Tom and his youngest daughter have not had a close relationship over the past years. In fact, a source exclusively told Page Six earlier this month that the movie star has not seen Suri since 2012 (they were last seen together at Disney World that summer).

“Katie has safeguarded Suri and she’s a devoted mom,” the insider told us. “This is a girl who is a private citizen. She hasn’t lived her life in public.”

Holmes, who filed for divorce from Tom when Suri was only 6 years old in June 2012, previously told Glamour that she wanted to keep her daughter out of the public eye “because she was so visible at a young age.”

The 45-year-old also revealed in November 2013 court docs that she filed for divorce from Tom “to protect Suri from Scientology ,” a religion that is often referred to as a cult.

While it is believed that Holmes signed several non-disclosure agreements to prevent her from speaking about her marriage to Tom and the Church of Scientology, Suri will be free to discuss the religion and her father now that she is legally an adult.

Though it’s unclear whether the teen will publicly speak about her father, she won’t be joining Scientology anytime soon.

“Suri is not a Scientologist and never will be … she deserves love and sympathy,” former Scientology spokesperson Mike Rinder told Page Six.

Suri Cruise seemed unbothered as she celebrated her birthday in style in New York , amid questions over her bond with dad Tom Cruise .

The teenager, who is the only daughter of the Top Gun actor and Katie Holmes , became an official adult when she turned 18 on Thursday, April 18 – making us all feel absolutely ancient.

The milestone day was met with claims that she has a rift with her father , who is currently filming for a new project in London – but the birthday girl didn’t seem fazed about the speculation.

In fact, she looked effortlessly cool as she made her way around New York on her big day, stopping off a flower stall to pick up a few bouquets.

She was spotted clutching a coffee and a Magnolia Bakery bag of treats while perusing their offerings.

Suri donned a gold cropped vest and baggy jeans, paired with a burgundy cardigan and black trainers.

She was the spitting image of her mom as she kept a denim jacket draped over one arm and a bulky backpack slung over the other shoulder.

Katie, 45, welcomed her first child with the Mission: Impossible lead, 61, in 2006, shortly before they tied the knot.

Katie famously filed for divorce in a bombshell move at the end of June, 2012, with the former couple signing a settlement a few weeks later – details relating to their split are still shrouded in secrecy, but she was reportedly granted full custody of their child.

While Suri has always shared a close bond with her mom, there have been questions raised about her relationship with her dad.

Although neither have spoken publicly about this, an insider has now claimed that there is a rift between the Hollywood star and his youngest child.

‘Tom does not exist to her,’ a source told DailyMail.com . ‘Suri will not have any contact with her father, despite being 18, and even if he called, she would not answer.

‘He does not exist to Katie or Suri, and his daughter does not want to rely on him for anything. 

‘She feels that she has one parent and that is her mother.’

According to the outlet, Tom will no longer be required to pay child support to his ex-wife now that Suri has reached the age of 18, which may sever one of their last remaining ties.

The youngster was unveiled to the world as a newborn baby on the cover of Vanity Fair in 2006, but her mom has since taken steps to shield her from the spotlight as much as possible.

‘What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her,’ she told the outlet.

‘I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person.’

Despite this, she has allowed Suri the opportunity to follow in her footsteps in the industry over the years – and invited her to sing on her recent projects, Rare Objects and Alone Together.

‘I hope she always does something on my films. I always ask her. But both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people,’ she continued.

‘And it’s this safe, beautiful, creative space. So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly. That’s how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling. It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she’s my heart.

‘It’s wild to have a daughter who’s almost the same age as I was when I began all this.’

As of this writing, it's unclear if Suri has planned a bigger celebration, but her wholesome outing with a friend has us praising Katie Holmes for her down-to-earth parenting skills.

While her mother is undoubtedly showering the young singer with love for her monumental day, Tom Cruise has given a clear sign that daughter Suri's 18th birthday isn't on his radar . According to a report from the Daily Mail , the "Top Gun" actor is a non-factor in Suri's life. "Tom does not exist to her. Thanks to the soaring public profiles of her celebrity parents, their whirlwind romance, and their relationship with Scientology, Suri’s childhood was a constant point of fascination for tabloids and a hungry public. 

As a toddler, Suri became a fashion icon, drumming up controversy for wearing baby heels and handbags to style-out her designer outfits. 

However, after Cruise and Holmes separated in 2012, Suri and Holmes took a large step back from the spotlight. While Holmes inched back into headlines for her relationships and various professional moves over the years, Suri has not yet returned to the public eye.

Suri Cruise recently leant her vocals to two of mum’s film soundtracks. The then 16-year-old performed ‘Blue Moon’ for the soundtrack of the 2022 film Alone Together , and has sung yet-to-be-released tracks for Holmes’ latest directing project, Rare Objects . 

“I hope she always does something on my films,” Holmes said in an interview with Glamour . “I always ask her. But both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people. And it’s this safe, beautiful, creative space. So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly. That’s how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling. It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she’s my heart.”

According to the Daily Mail , Suri is reportedly applying for college to study fashion.

While a source said Suri was “applying for schools all over the place”, they also divulged that Holmes would prefer she stay close to home in New York City. 

In her interview with Glamour , Holmes confessed a continued desire to protect her daughter.

“What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her,” she said. “I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person.”

Suri and Holmes are frequently sighted together around New York, and reportedly quarantined together at their home during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Does Tom Cruise see Suri Cruise?

According to recent reports from Page Six , Tom Cruise does not have a relationship with his daughter. 

Sources say he has not seen Suri in a decade, with their last meeting thought to be in 2013, around a year after Cruise’s split from Holmes.

It is rumoured Cruise’s Church of Scientology prohibits him from seeing “non-believers”, which includes Suri and Holmes. Holmes’ choice to leave the faith is reportedly part of the reason behind the pair’s divorce.

TMZ previously reported that the divorce settlement required Tom to pay child support of USD $400,000 (approx. AU $624,836) per year until Suri is 18. 

However, now that Suri is legally an adult, she can make a decision about whether she wants to talk about her relationship with her father and what it was like to be raised by a member of the Church Of Scientology. 

While it’s suspected that Cruise’s three ex-wives—Mini Rogers, Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes—may have signed non-disclosure agreements about their time with Cruise (largely due them never really opening up about the marriages), Suri would have been to young to sign one. 

This gives her a lot of freedom and power, if she chooses to take it.

Suri had a gift bag in hand during her walk around town, suggesting the celebrations were already underway. It remains to be seen if there will be any larger festivities later -- she leads a pretty low-key lifestyle -- but ya gotta figure her mom Katie Holmes has something planned for such a big birthday.

As for Suri's dad, Tom Cruise , he most certainly won't be joining in on the birthday fun for a couple reasons.

First of all, Tom's across the pond from Suri right now -- he's busy filming a new project in London.

But, more importantly, the father and daughter reportedly haven't had a close relationship since 2012.

In fact, the last time they were publicly seen together was at Disney World that summer. That's also the same year Katie filed for divorce from Tom, when Suri was just 6-years-old.

At this point, they've been estranged twice as long as they were together -- so, the Tom factor's probably NBD for her.

Suri's eligible to vote for the first time. They really do grow up so fast!!!

"Between tickle fights and glitter art, I try to throw in some manners along the way. I try to have good manners too, so that's what she sees. I also try to be very creative with her, because I know she's an artist, and that speaks to the girl in me," Holmes said, before adding that she did have to draw the line somewhere. "To be honest? I'm not going to play tag, probably. That's not top of my list. But I'll paint all day, I'll do the creative stuff."

On her priorities as a mother

"My main goal is to just let her know how much I love her," Holmes told PEOPLE in 2014. "Just to let her know that she is so loved. When that's the through line, who cares that my first two pancakes are always burned?"

In April 2023, Holmes told Glamour that she likes to "protect" Suri from the public eye "because she was so visible at a young age."

The actress added: "I'm very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She's an incredible person. She's my heart."

On the importance of a reliable support system

Holmes gushed about her ultra-supportive mother, Kathleen, "who is always willing to fly to me if I need her, and even when I don't," she previously told PEOPLE.

She added that her "girlfriends of all ages, who have children of all ages" also were instrumental in raising Suri. "I lean on them. For advice, for recipes, for all of that stuff: 'What am I supposed to do? Can you come over and watch? Can you be a helping hand?' And I do have help, yes, but … it's your baby, you know? You want to be the one who is there," Holmes said.

On navigating mom guilt

The actress revealed that despite her best efforts, she often felt plagued by a sense of guilt. "'Am I enough? Am I doing enough? Have I seen her enough?' " she told PEOPLE that she would ask herself. "Guess what? You're not enough, she hasn't seen you enough, you're horrible: That's how it can feel sometimes. You do the best you can. Some days you feel really good about yourself and some days you don't."

She continued: "Motherhood has taught me to just let go of some things, to relinquish control. There's a playdate you weren't expecting — I've had to learn to ask myself, 'Is this worth it? Is it going to make her smile?' And if it is, then yeah, we're probably gonna do it. Maybe that means dinner at 8 instead of 6, and a snack in between. Fine. Things don't have to happen a certain way. I think we all need to ease up on the expectations. We're all trying to do the best we can. Motherhood taught me that."

On cooking for Suri

Holmes, who rates herself as a "solid 7" when it comes to cheffing it up, discussed her and Suri's routines in the kitchen with PEOPLE in 2016.

​​​"I like to make a nice breakfast and start the day calmly. I like that time with my little one before school," she said. "[Suri] has her favorites, like most kids," she added, admitting, "I don't really have any tactics to help [with picky eating]. I think like most parents you make the stuff you know that they like, and every once in a while you introduce something new."

On wanting to channel her own mom

"She's just so kind and has such a pure heart; she really leads with those two qualities, so I try to do the same," Holmes previously told PEOPLE of her mom.

"She's just so kind and very generous, so I try my best to embody that and pass that on to my own daughter," she added.

On providing Suri with a "stable, innocent childhood"

​Despite her many acting roles, Holmes has said that being a mother is the job she finds the most fulfilling.

"This business is so unstable, and you never really know where you're going to be … My child is the most important person to me, and her upbringing is paramount to my work right now," she said in Town & Country's April 2017 issue.

"It's very important that I'm present and she has a stable, innocent childhood. I feel so blessed to do what I do, but there's nothing in the world better than watching your child succeed," she added.

On the "heartbreaking" process of her watching her daughter grow up

"Every day, kids get a little further away from you. That's a positive thing. They should be becoming more independent, but it's heartbreaking," Holmes said in her interview with Town & Country . "You want them to stay with you forever, but they're these amazing beings, and you have to do everything you can to give them what they need — and then they're going to go. And that's going to be very, very sad for me."

On welcoming Suri in her 20s

The actress shared that she was "happy" to welcome Suri at age 27, telling Elle UK in November 2019 that their ages are "a good match."

"I was happy to become a mom in my twenties," she told the outlet. "It's been nice that our ages fit … how do I put this? Every age that my child has been and my age at that time has been a good match. We kind of grew up together."

On mother-daughter workouts

The mother-daughter duo have some fitness routines of their own, Holmes told Shape in December 2019. "Sometimes I work out with my daughter," she said. "It just depends on the day. We have our routines, and occasionally they overlap." She noted that she never pushes Suri to work out with her though, so as not to embarrass her.

"I don't force her to work out with me because I know that's lame," she said.

On nurturing Suri's "strong personality"

"I love her so much," the mom-of-one told InStyle for their April 2020 issue. "My biggest goal has always been to nurture her into her individuality, to make sure she is 100 percent herself and strong, confident and able. And to know it. She came out very strong — she's always been a strong personality."

Holmes added that Suri had outgrown her "girlie stage" and was putting her mind to a range of new tasks.

"She'll pick an activity and work her butt off until she's really good at it. Then she's like, 'Okay, I'm going to try the next thing,' " the actress said. "She's very focused and a hard worker."

On celebrating Suri's 14th birthday

In a July 2020 interview with Entertainment Tonight , Katie Holmes shared some details on the at-home celebrations she hosted for Suri's 14th birthday . The Secret: Dare to Dream star shared a few snaps of the low-key festivities on Instagram, which included crafts and a flower crown for the birthday girl.

"It was a beautiful moment," Holmes said of the socially distanced party. "This year is a reminder that the simple things are really beautiful. I think when you have less, you are more creative."

On how the pandemic shaped their relationship

In November 2020, Holmes wrote a piece for Vogue Australia's November issue about how the silver lining of the COVID-19 pandemic was spending more quality time with her daughter.

"Hobbies such as sewing, painting and writing became new hallmarks of satisfaction and having had time at home to just be. To listen," she wrote. "To live for a moment in time without the pressure of results and instead appreciate the natural rhythms of mother and daughter was the most precious gift."

On celebrating Mother's Day

The proud mom shared an adorable black-and-white throwback photo of herself kissing her little girl on the cheek to celebrate Mother's Day in 2021.

"I am so grateful to be a mom to the sweetest daughter. Happy Mother's Day to all of the moms!!!! 💕💕💕💕💕," Holmes wrote in the caption of her post.

On watching Dawson's Creek with her daughter

While chatting with Variety in March 2023, Holmes revealed that she and Suri watched Dawson's Creek together at the height of the pandemic.

" We had a good laugh about it . It's wild to have a daughter who's almost the same age as I was when I began all this," she told the outlet.

However, in an interview with  ABC News , the Mission Impossible star explained the term. The actor said: "It's basically just respecting the mother, you know, and helping to be quiet. (But) not the mother. The mother makes as much noise ... you know, she's going through it. She does what she's gotta do, OK?"

There were also whispers that Scientology frowns on giving painkillers to women in labour, but Tom added: "We're there, you know, with doctors. ... Whatever the woman wants. ... If she needs an epidural, she's gonna get her epidural."

The proud father told ABC News about the experience of welcoming Suri into the world following her arrival.

"It was everything that we wanted it to be," he affirmed. "It was spiritual. It was powerful. It was indescribable. What words can you use? It's still something that I'm processing and keep reliving."

The Top Gun star gave a further update on how the family were doing as they adjusted to life as a trio: "I'm really doing exceptionally well - I'm really doing beautifully," he revealed. "And Katie's doing beautifully and Suri's doing beautifully and Bel and Conor – everyone."

Bel and Conor are Tom's adopted children with his former wife Nicole Kidman.

In 2022, Katie gave another rare snippet into her relationship with Suri, telling InStyle: "I love her so much. My biggest goal has always been to nurture her into her individuality. To make sure she is 100 per cent herself and strong, confident, and able. And to know it." 

Suri is set to go to college at the end of the summer. It is thought she has been considering colleges in NYC, meaning that she will still be able to see her mother regularly.

Her second shot was one of her daughter from behind. "Birthday vibes 💕💕" Katie wrote.

Katie spoke to ELLE.com in November about how she tries to be a fitness role model to Suri. "My dad ran the Boston Marathon when he was 45," she said. "I mean, that really set the bar for me. Like, 'Oh, I want to do that. He can do that. That's so cool.' I think it's nice when you have someone who's setting that example. The teen looked so joyful walking around SoHo in New York with her friends, reveling in one of the first sunny days of spring.

“Suri would have been too young to sign any agreement, but she will now be free to talk if she wants to and it’s going to be really interesting if she has something to say,” Tony Ortega, a seasoned Scientology reporter previously said .

“If you are a regular church member you could be told to disconnect from your wife and daughter, but because Tom is a celebrity — he’s the top celebrity — he gets to ignore all this stuff,” Ortega told Page Six . “Your average member would be kicked out, but [the leader of Scientology] David Miscavige can’t do that with Tom.”

So who knows, maybe Cruise will reach out to his estranged daughter on Thursday for her Big Day. And maybe she will have a lot to share with the world.

No parents, no problem. Suri Cruise ‘s 15th birthday included two friends and neither of her parents. Suri, who is the daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes , turned 15 years old on Sunday, April 18, and from the looks of her bday, Suri had a grand old time exploring New York City without any parental supervision.

Suri was photographed Sunday with two friends as they bought flowers, ate ice cream and took selfies in downtown Manhattan, Suri’s mom, Katie Holmes , wasn’t far away however. Holmes was also photographed in the same neighborhood, shopping for Suri’s birthday present as her daughter enjoyed some alone time with her friends.

For her birthday outfit, Suri dressed in a leather jacket, a white T-shirt and dark-wash jeans. She completed the look with a white face mask and light sneakers. Suri, whose long brown hair came well below her shoulders, also looked noticeably taller from the last time fans saw her. (Her mom, FYI, is 5’9″.)

Suri is Holmes’ only child from her marriage to Cruis e, whom she was married to from 2006 to 2012. Cruise also has two children from his marriage to Nicole Kidman: son Connor, 26, and daughter Isabella, 28. Kidman and Cruise divorced in 2001 after 11 years of marriage.

In honor of Suri’s 15th birthday , Holmes took to her Instagram on Sunday with a post about how she couldn’t “believe” how fast her daughter had grown up. “Happy 15th Birthday Sweetheart! I love you!!!!!!!! ❤️💕😘 I can’t believe you are already 15!” she wrote.

In April 2020, A source told Us Weekly  about how “in sync” Suri and Holmes are as a mother-and-daughter duo. “You’d struggle to find a mom-daughter duo who are more in sync with each other,” the insider said. “They’re a real team— their connection is a beautiful thing to witness.” The source continued, “Suri is very naturally athletic and excels at physical activities like gymnastics and dance.” The insider went on to reveal that Suri is also “well liked” among her close group of friends.

A source also revealed to Us Weekly in April 2019 that Suri is “really protective” of her mother. “If Katie’s feeling stressed or down, Suri’s very compassionate and loving. Katie feels like her daughter really is her little angel,” the insider said. The source continued, “She’s is a great kid. She’s extremely polite and well-mannered. She’s a good girl who’s a joy to be around; she doesn’t come across as spoiled or like a celebrity kid at all.”

Suri Cruise is all grown up

In the exclusive photo above, Suri Cruise looks casual in a pair of gray sweatpants, sneakers, and a zip-up sweater. With her long legs, Suri is clearly on the taller side. In April 2023,  Suri and her mother, Katie Holmes, were pictured side by side at the Los Angeles International Airport . Suri's exact height is unknown, but it appears that she and Holmes are around the same height, and in some of the photos, she looms slightly over Holmes. Holmes is said to be 5 feet, 9 inches tall, meaning that both she and Suri are taller than Tom Cruise, who is reportedly 5 foot 7.

With Tom having little involvement in her upbringing, Suri lives a lowkey life in New York City with Holmes and will be heading to college soon. A source told the  Daily Mail  that Suri wants to study fashion and said, "Suri is applying to schools all over the place. [Katie] really does want her to stay in New York so they can be close to each other. Katie takes great pride in her but is also extremely overprotective."

When Tom and Katie split in 2023, it only took them weeks to finalize a divorce settlement and custody arrangement, which seemed to give the Dawson’s Creek actress primary custody of their daughter. Tom allegedly hasn’t seen Suri in over a decade following the divorce.

Nonetheless, he’s been paying a reported $33,000 per month in child support (equalling around $400,000 per year).

But their divorce and custody settlement apparently also requires Tom to pay for their daughter’s beyond her 18th birthday, including those related to health and education.

Tom has a significantly larger fortune that his ex-wife, explaining why he was likely so ready to take on the financial obligations of paying for Suri’s college. Tom Cruise’s net worth is reportedly $600 million , while Katie Holmes’ net worth is approximately $25 million .

Tom and Suri allegedly have no contact, though he financially supports his daughter. However, that may change, as it’s been reported that Tom may be distancing himself from the Church of Scientology .

It's been speculated that Tom’s religion played a part in his divorce from Katie. Rumors suggest she may have agreed to stay silent about what she knows of the mysterious religion in exchange for Tom providing for their daughter while agreeing to be a minimal influence in her life. To this day, Katie has never publicly discussed her marriage to Tom nor her involvement in Scientology. She’s reportedly been raising Suri Catholic , even sending her to a private school.

Tom has two older children, Isabella and Connor, with his other ex-wife Nicole Kidman, who has also been hesitant to speak on Scientology.
