K-pop group Stray Kids have announced the North American leg of their MANIAC world tour. Launching June 29 at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, the seven show run will include stops in major cities across the US, including Chicago, Seattle, and Los Angeles.

The group will be touring in support of their mini-album, ODDINARY , which was released in March. Consisting of seven songs, the record was the band’s first to top the Billboard 200, and marked the highest first-week sales so far for any artist this year. Stray Kids also earned the most sales overall in a single week for an original fourth-generation K-pop group. In addition, all seven songs from ODDINARY entered Spotify’s Global Top 200 chart.

“Ever since pre-debut, we started at a beginners point,” band member Bang Chan told Buzzfeed about their chart-topping record this month, thanking their fanbase (known as “STAY”) in the process. “The journey that we’ve started has become cooler and more awesome. Even in this journey that we’ve started, we’re making this family bigger. And that’s why these results can truly happen. We could not have done this without STAY. With these results, it makes us want to try harder in the future and gives us more motivation. It feels great!”

The Live Nation-promoted U.S. shows are in support of their No. 1 Billboard 200 collection, Stray Kids Mini Album: Oddinary and they will kick off on June 29 with a gig at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, before moving on to gigs in Chicago, Atlanta, Forth Worth, Los Angeles, Oakland and Seattle.

The group — which includes members Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin and I.N — launched at No. 1  on the Billboard album charts in March with 110,000 equivalent album units and Top Album Sales with 103,000 in album sales according to Luminate, formerly MRC Data. It was the band’s first No. 1 on each chart and also the first title to debut atop the rankings simultaneously since Adele’s 30 in December of last year.

Stray Kids are the fourth K-pop act to hit No. 1 on the Artist 100, which began in 2014, joining BTS (20 total weeks at No. 1), BLACKPINK and SuperM (one week each). The guys were gobsmacked by the chart double-dip, and in a chat with Billboard on Twitter Spaces they were freaking out about their first entries on the BB tallies. “Woah, so exciting!” the South Korean pop group was heard cheering about the news , before Bang Chan chimed in, “We heard the news a few moments ago and are like, ‘Is this real? Is this actually happening?’ We were really surprised too.”

Philippine Concerts

Concerts, gigs, live performances and other musical events, this is home: stray kids reunite with ph stays in maniac tour in manila, stray kids came back with a show like no other for their philippine stays..

Almost four years after their first concert in the Philippines, South Korean boy group Stray Kids made their way back to the Philippine concert stage and brought their second world tour, MANIAC , to the SM Mall of Asia Arena with back-to-back concerts for their Philippine STAYs.

Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N kicked off the Manila leg of their world tour on March 11 with a three-hour show that saw them perform songs from their recent releases and their greatest hits from their earlier albums.

Stray Kids

Before the show even began, Filipino STAYs filled the arena with enthusiasm and fervor as they sang along to the tracks and held up their lightsticks in support of their favorite boy band.

With Stray Kids strikingly charismatic in red, the highly anticipated concert officially began with “MANIAC”, “Venom”, and “Red Lights” from their million-selling albums Oddinary and Noeasy . In addition to the outstanding performances by the boy group, the MANIAC Tour concert featured a one-of-a-kind concert spectacle that included incredible stage designs, unusual props, mesmerizing lights, and a live band.

Leader Bang Chan then took the lead in greeting their Filipino fans after a long time following their first meeting in 2019. “You guys are very, very good at cheering today,” he commented as the crowd goes loud for the boy group. After a group greeting, the members individually said hello and introduced themselves in Filipino.

Following the high-energy start and now clad in a black-and-white ensemble, Stray Kids kept the momentum alive with “Easy” and “ALL IN”. Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N then brought everyone at the MOA Arena back to 2018 with “District 9”, the title track of their debut extended play I Am Not .

With performances of songs from not just their most recent albums but also from earlier ones—songs that epitomized the boys’ remarkable artistry from the time they were rookies—the MANIAC Tour served as a tribute to the members’ artistic development. With their last concert in the Philippines dating back to 2019, the concert was a moment unlike any other, a nostalgic and proud feeling to have witnessed them in their first year since their debut to the million-seller and sold-out acts that they have become today.

maniac tour wiki

The concert witnessed live stages of “Back Door”, “Charmer”, “Lonely St.”, “Side Effects”, “Thunderous”, “Domino”, “God’s Menu”, “Cheese”, “Yayaya”, and “Rock” before Stray Kids divided themselves into units with Bang Chan, Lee Know, Seungmin, and I.N performing “Waiting for Us”, while Changbin, Hyunjin, and Felix took on the stage with “Muddy Water”. During the interval before the unit stages, the boys had fun with STAYs and gifted them with spontaneous freestyle dance (Hyunjin), a cover of Dua Lipa’s “Love Again” (Felix), and Sam Fischer’s “This City” (Lee Know), and an acoustic version of NewJeans’ “OMG” (Seungmin).

“Case 143” got the MOA Arena echoing with love confessions for Stray Kids as STAYs scream “I love you” to the boy group. The boy group then ended the set prior to the encore with a jaw-dropping parade of performances of “Hellavator”, “Top”, and “Victory Song”.

maniac tour wiki

While Stray Kids prepare for the encore stages, STAYs took the spotlight and gamely said yes to the missions prepared by the boys— talented idols and talented fans (of all ages) united ! Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N returned for the encore stages of “Fam”, “Miroh”, “Star Lost”, and “Haven”.

“Whenever we do a concert with STAYs, it’s not just us that’s doing the concert, but I feel like we’re doing it together because we sing together, dance together. We share love together,” Bang Chan remarked. Han, who had to sit down during the concert due to health reasons, received loud cheers from the fans, reassuring him of their understanding. Still, despite the limitations, he delivered nothing short of his best with an impressive display of his rap and vocals and a dominating stage presence that radiated throughout the show. In addition, the members made sure Han never felt left out, going their way to come to him.

“I know you guys really hate to hear this word—I’m sorry. I’m really, really sorry about that. I know you guys are really worried about my condition issues and healthcare, but guys, to be honest, I really feel okay, I really feel great. Doing this show and your energy make my condition better. I feel great now,” Han said. He also urged the fans not to cry and assured them that he is really okay.

“The last time we came here was very beautiful. I can see why the people are so lovely, very loving, and very cheerful in a way. And seeing that, I feel like you guys really did cheer us up a lot. I felt that a lot today.” FELIX

MANIAC Tour in Manila was an auditory and visual display, a touching reunion, and teamwork that resulted in a successful event that would be talked about for days, months, and years to come. It was produced with astounding showmanship that demonstrated a concert unlike any other.

The concert ended with an energy that never wavers and a stronger promise to stay because STAYs make Stray Kids stay—and this is home.

by Benjamín Labatut ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 3, 2023

Sharply written fiction ably capturing primitive emotions and boundary-breaking research.

Lightly fictionalized studies of envelope-pushing science and its consequences.

Much like Chilean author Labatut’s excellent When We Cease To Understand the World (2021), this novel turns on brilliant minds leading troubled lives. First in its triptych of profiles is Austrian physicist Paul Ehrenfest, who killed his son with Down syndrome before killing himself. (Labatut notes that among Ehrenfest’s scholarly interests was turbulence.) The second and most substantive concerns Johnny von Neumann, a prodigiously brilliant Hungarian physicist and mathematician who worked on the Manhattan Project and spearheaded a host of developments in quantum mechanics and computing. The book’s title refers to MANIAC, a successor to the pioneering computer ENIAC, though as von Neumann’s broken relationships and decline become clear, the title becomes double-edged. The third section moves closer to the present day and concerns Lee Sedol, a Korean master of the notoriously challenging board game Go; in 2016 he was defeated by AlphaGo, an AI program, leaving him so devastated he retired from the game. In each section, but especially the latter two, Labatut elegantly captures the sense of geniuses outstripping the typical boundaries of intellectual achievement and paying a price for it. In Sedol’s case, his matches with AlphaGo are characterized not simply as man-versus-machine battles, but a hint of what an AI–driven future might look like; they were “casting a new and terrible beauty, a logic more powerful than reason.” Labatut can approach this with a certain optimism about the magic of unfettered genius. (Sections narrated by physicist Richard Feynman lighten the tone.) But the prevailing mood is dread; as Labatut tracks the ethical debates regarding the A-bomb and the impact of AlphaGo’s triumph, he sounds a concern that humanity is engineering its undoing.

New York Times Bestseller

by Kristin Hannah ‧ RELEASE DATE: Feb. 6, 2024

A dramatic, vividly detailed reconstruction of a little-known aspect of the Vietnam War.

A young woman’s experience as a nurse in Vietnam casts a deep shadow over her life.

When we learn that the farewell party in the opening scene is for Frances “Frankie” McGrath’s older brother—“a golden boy, a wild child who could make the hardest heart soften”—who is leaving to serve in Vietnam in 1966, we feel pretty certain that poor Finley McGrath is marked for death. Still, it’s a surprise when the fateful doorbell rings less than 20 pages later. His death inspires his sister to enlist as an Army nurse, and this turn of events is just the beginning of a roller coaster of a plot that’s impressive and engrossing if at times a bit formulaic. Hannah renders the experiences of the young women who served in Vietnam in all-encompassing detail. The first half of the book, set in gore-drenched hospital wards, mildewed dorm rooms, and boozy officers’ clubs, is an exciting read, tracking the transformation of virginal, uptight Frankie into a crack surgical nurse and woman of the world. Her tensely platonic romance with a married surgeon ends when his broken, unbreathing body is airlifted out by helicopter; she throws her pent-up passion into a wild affair with a soldier who happens to be her dead brother’s best friend. In the second part of the book, after the war, Frankie seems to experience every possible bad break. A drawback of the story is that none of the secondary characters in her life are fully three-dimensional: Her dismissive, chauvinistic father and tight-lipped, pill-popping mother, her fellow nurses, and her various love interests are more plot devices than people. You’ll wish you could have gone to Vegas and placed a bet on the ending—while it’s against all the odds, you’ll see it coming from a mile away.

LONG ISLAND

LONG ISLAND

by Colm Tóibín ‧ RELEASE DATE: May 7, 2024

A moving portrait of rueful middle age and the failure to connect.

An acclaimed novelist revisits the central characters of his best-known work.

At the end of Brooklyn (2009), Eilis Lacey departed Ireland for the second and final time—headed back to New York and the Italian American husband she had secretly married after first traveling there for work. In her hometown of Enniscorthy, she left behind Jim Farrell, a young man she’d fallen in love with during her visit, and the inevitable gossip about her conduct. Tóibín’s 11th novel introduces readers to Eilis 20 years later, in 1976, still married to Tony Fiorello and living in the titular suburbia with their two teenage children. But Eilis’ seemingly placid existence is disturbed when a stranger confronts her, accusing Tony of having an affair with his wife—now pregnant—and threatening to leave the baby on their doorstep. “She’d known men like this in Ireland,” Tóibín writes. “Should one of them discover that their wife had been unfaithful and was pregnant as a result, they would not have the baby in the house.” This shock sends Eilis back to Enniscorthy for a visit—or perhaps a longer stay. (Eilis’ motives are as inscrutable as ever, even to herself.) She finds the never-married Jim managing his late father’s pub; unbeknownst to Eilis (and the town), he’s become involved with her widowed friend Nancy, who struggles to maintain the family chip shop. Eilis herself appears different to her old friends: “Something had happened to her in America,” Nancy concludes. Although the novel begins with a soap-operatic confrontation—and ends with a dramatic denouement, as Eilis’ fate is determined in a plot twist worthy of Edith Wharton—the author is a master of quiet, restrained prose, calmly observing the mores and mindsets of provincial Ireland, not much changed from the 1950s.
