LAMY Safari Fountain Pen -  Savannah Green is one of two colors released in LAMY's 2021 Special Edition . The 2021 Special Edition Savannah Green and Terra Red are the Safari's original colors - first released in 1980. These special edition colors feature black accents including the clip and a black steel nib.

About LAMY Safari:

The LAMY Safari fountain pen is probably LAMY's most recognizable and well-known pen design. Developed in the early 1980s, the LAMY Safari has a modern look and feel. The large and prominent clip on the Safari is one of the most noticeable features on the pen and is strong enough to secure the pen onto your notebook or pocket without fear of getting shaken off with movement or activity. LAMY Safari also comes with an ergonomic grip, which has two flattened sides for you to comfortably rest your fingers while holding the pen. The pen barrel is rounded but not completely circular- it has two flat sides to prevent the pen from rolling around when placed down on a flat surface and includes an indicator window that allows you to check on the ink levels in your pen so you know when you are running low. LAMY Safari fountain pen is one of the most popular choices for a first fountain pen and many fountain pen lovers continue to return to this pen as an everyday carry since it has a sturdy construction, a strong and secure clip, and is relatively lightweight.

We deliver worldwide with a choice of standard (tracked post) and express (DHL air) delivery for most countries. Returns Information

Please return any unwanted items within 21 days of purchase. The item must still be in a re-saleable condition and returned with proof of purchase. When the LAMY safari is unveiled at the Frankfurt Fair in 1980, nobody guesses that it would one day be the best-selling fountain pen in the world.

The LAMY safari was the outcome of extensive research work in the field of youth psychology and of close cooperation with designer Wolfgang Fabian and the Mannheim Development Group under the direction of Prof. Bernt Spiegel. The ergonomic design and sturdy workmanship of the LAMY safari are perfectly tailored to the needs of the young, but also quickly win over many adult fans as well.

Originally launched in colors reminiscent of an African safari -- savannah green, terracotta orange and charcoal black (which are featured in the special edition colors of the LAMY Studio in 2019), it underwent constant innovation and redesigns, culminating in the model we see today.  

The LAMY Safari won the iF Design award in 1994 and the rest as they say is history.

I wanted to do a quick comparison of the new Savannah and Terra (Special Editions) to their original  Savannah Green and Terra Red counterparts. All in all, it is an outstanding job by Lamy. It is very, very close color matching on both models--no easy feat considering the 40-year span of time between models. I'm glad I can finally use these pens! My Savannah has been used and abused, so I never wanted to stress it further. The Terra is stickered NOS, so I felt a little bashful about using it. I'm thoroughly delighted with the new pens!

In the horizontal shots, the new pens are at top and the original pens are at bottom; in the vertical shots, the original pens are at left and the new pens are at right.

There are three big differentiators. First, the original models have no country of origin or are marked with W. GERMANY, whereas the remakes are marked GERMANY. Second, the original models do not accept the modern converter and the remakes do not accept the original converter. Third, the originals have no breather hole in the "plus sign" topper, whereas the remakes do. There are also some slight difference to tooling and mold marks, but these are harder to see.

I'm glad I already have the old ones. It's going to be hell trying to tell them apart on crappy eBay listings!

I JUST ordered a Terra with EF and M. I plan to (try to) grind the M down to a useable italic. I think I'll use Platinum Pigment Brown in it, but I don't know. It was a complete impulse buy! I'm glad to see it's so close to the original. I think this reduces the market value of some collections though. I've seen some pretty outlandish prices for the originals.

The original Savannah price will be reduced 😭  . But I don't have to keep looking for the original Terra red one 😃 . I wish Lamy will reissue the original boxes.Thank bphollin  for the photos and the comparison between the originals ant he new Safari pens.

I was fortunate to get my original green for about the price of two new Safaris from eBay.de, but it was in this used-and-abused state. Some of the speculative eBay prices are ridiculous!

You're welcome! I can't put down my terra red. It is fantastic! Hands down my favorite Safari, which used to be petrol.

Thanks for the comparison. I just received mine today, Terra with M and green with F. I don't have the 1980 versions but I do like these new ones. I bought mine from Endless Pens. Price was good $20 and got a free converter. The pens look legit to me and both write well. 

Just purchased a terra red with a medium nib from Dromgooles in Houston.

I finally got my pens too and just made a quick comparion with the originals from 1980. Actually, the colors are very close to the original. The terra red a bit closer than the savannah...

On the other hand, the reissue will never replace the originals, at least not for serious collectors.

For my money (thankfully not!), you'd have to be completely nuts to outlay that on a Safari......

Yes, I guess you're right.  I collect things as well, tickets to the 24 Heures du Mans.  I have just under 200.  Thankfully they tend to cost a great deal less than an old Safari........;)

Just received my Safari Terra. The color is wonderful - perfectly terracotta - neither orange nor brown but right in between.

Very nice pictures, Christof! I continue to be very happy with the re-issues. My only complaint is that I keep re-inking the orange and haven't tried the green yet! Your pictures show just how close the colors are on the orange pens.

I'm glad I have the originals, and even more glad that I found them before Safari prices went insane on the secondhand market. Even the recent dark purple and petrol Safaris are fetching inflated prices.

Can you still use the tickets for their original intended purpose? The "old Safari" still has some functional value as a FP. The tickets are perhaps recyclable.

No, I wouldn't get far presenting a 1957 entrance ticket at the next event......  But I wonder how many of those 'collector' Safaris are actually being used......?  I suspect that most are as ornamental as my tickets....

Very few I would think. But they could be if needed/wanted.

Another big difference between the originals and the current editions is the cross finial up top. Besides lacking the breather hole, it is made out of metal and screws onto the cap, you can easily remove it by turning it with a quarter coin. The current versions are friction fit and can only be removed if pushed from the inside.

I do use my vintage Safari, but I also plan to use the modern one.

Review: lamy safari savannah & terracotta special editions (2021).

So today, while we take a look at 2021's Terracotta and Savannah special edition Lamy Safaris - two colors that immediately got me very excited! - I'll go a bit more in-depth on why I like this pen so much. Lamy Safari Savannah Green and Terracotta Orange Pens! Posted on: Thursday, December 10, 2015

This week we were fortunate enough to stumble upon some of the rarest of the rare Lamy Safari pens, the Savannah Green and the Terracotta Orange!

The Savannah Green was the very first Safari introduced in 1980, and came in this great box made of cardboard with plastic ends. The pens sit elevated inside the box. Being plastic, and now 35 years old, the plastic is fragile, and can break easily. One must take great care in opening and closing these boxes, which snap together when closed

The bottom of the box shows a fountain pen and reminds you that you cannot put two short international cartridges back to back in this pen. Only Lamy Cartridges will work. Interestingly enough, this diagram is present on every writing instrument box, regardless of whether it is a fountain pen or not.

Found in four different writing modes, we found them all, Fountain Pen, Rollerball, Ballpoint, and Mechanical Pencil.

The fountain pen features an unmarked black nib, unlilke modern day Safari pens which have the Lamy logo and nib size.

The fountain pen came to us with the included converter. From what we understand, it may not be original, but it sure is a cool Lamy converter, and it fits. All Aluminum with W. Germany marking on the press bar. It should also be noted the fountain pen and rollerball included the W. Germany inscriptions reverse of the Lamy imprint on the barrel.

Terracotta Orange was also a 1980’s color, but not exactly sure where this fits into the grand scheme of things. It is also a rare color and features the same style box as the Savannah Green.

Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get all four writing instruments in this wonderful color, only one Rollerball was found.
