Day 1: Places to Explore

1. city palace.

After admiring the stunning architecture of Hawa Mahal, head to the nearby City Palace, a blend of Mughal and Rajasthani architectural styles.

The palace is a sprawling complex of courtyards and gardens of Mubarak Mahal and Chandra Mahal. It also houses a museum displaying the artefacts of the royal family.

4. Albert Hall Museum

3. Nahargarh Fort

How to reach Udaipur from Jaipur:

There are several transportation options:

By Road : The distance is approximately 400 kilometres; the journey takes 6-7 hours.

Route: You can take the NH48 (National Highway 48), which connects Jaipur and Udaipur. The route passes through cities like Ajmer and Beawar.

By Car: You can either drive your own car or hire a taxi. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition for a long journey.

By Bus: Various private and state-run buses operate between Jaipur and Udaipur. Book a bus ticket in advance for a comfortable journey. Check your Volvo bus options on Red Bus .

By Train : Several trains connect Jaipur to Udaipur, including the Mewar Express and Chetak Express. It takes about 6-7 hours, depending on your chosen train.

Check the availability and book your tickets on Rail Yatri .

By Flight: Udaipur’s Maharana Pratap Airport (UDR) is well-connected to Jaipur’s Jaipur International Airport (JAI). You can book a domestic flight for a quick journey. The flight duration is approximately 1 hour. You could opt for this mode if you are short on time and have a tight budget. Check Skyscanner for good deals on flights.

Places to explore on Day 4: The Royal Palaces and Forts of Udaipur

In the afternoon, head to the City Palace, a stunning complex of palaces, courtyards, and gardens overlooking Lake Pichola.

The palace was built over 400 years ago by various kings and showcased a blend of Mughal, Rajput, and European architectural styles. 1 Fateh Sagar Lake

Some activities near Fateh Sagar Lake include taking a boat ride, enjoying the Nehru Garden, and spending time at Ambrai Ghat.

4. Bahubali Hills

In the evening (or early morning), visit Bahubali Hills, nestled on the outskirts of Udaipur. Bahubali Hills is a charming spot that attracts nature lovers. It takes its name from the renowned Bahubali statue that adorns this scenic spot.

Bahubali Hills offers a panoramic and calming vista of Badi Lake, with the Aravali mountain range as a majestic backdrop, providing a complete 360-degree view.

Jaisalmer is a stunning city located in the heart of the Thar Desert.

How to reach Jaisalmer from Udaipur:

There are primarily two ways to travel between Udaipur and Jaisalmer: by road or train.

By Road (Bus or Car) :

By car: Udaipur to Jaisalmer by road is approximately 440-500 kilometres, depending on your route. If you’re driving, you can follow the NH62 and NH68 highways, which connect the two cities. The journey can take around 7-9 hours, depending on road conditions and stops.

By Bus : It takes about 11 hours, depending on the traffic. Check the availability and book tickets either on Red Bus or RSRTC .

By Train: Jaisalmer is well-connected to Udaipur by train. The train journey usually takes around 8-10 hours, depending on the type of train and stops. Note that there are no direct flights to Jaisalmer from Udaipur.

Places to Explore on Day 5: Forts and Lake

1. Jaisalmer Fort

In the afternoon, head to the Jaisalmer Fort, a stunning fort built in the 12th century by Rawal Jaisal. Explore the fort’s stunning palaces, temples, and courtyards, and admire the spectacular views of the city and the surrounding desert.

2. Patwon Ki Havelipa

The Patwon Ki Haveli is Jaisalmer’s biggest and most important Haveli. It was constructed in the 18th century by a wealthy merchant and is now a popular tourist destination in the city.

3. Gadsisar Lake

You can head to the Jain Temples, a group of stunning temples dedicated to the Jain Tirthankaras.

3. Visit Khaba Fort

Khaba Fort is an intriguing attraction located in the desert outside Jaisalmer (30-40 minutes away) .

We will drive to Udaipur early in the morning. On arrival at Udaipur, check-in at the hotel. Rest of the day is free to explore the vibrant colourful Udaipur city. An overnight stay at the hotel.

• Sightseeing tour

After breakfast, we will visit City Palace complex and the shores of the Lake Pichola.

The City Palace was built as the capital of the Sisodia Rajput family by Maharana Udai Mirza Singh in 1559, after he moved from Chittor. Situated on the east bank of the Pichola Lake, it has many palaces inside its complex. Believed to be the largest of its kind in Rajasthan, the splendid building represents a perfect combination of the Mughal and Rajasthani architectural styles.

Later, we will visit the mysterious palaces and beautiful gardens. Continue our drive we will head towards the Saheliyon ki Badi, the Garden of the Maids of Honour for the Royal Ladies of Mewar.

The rest of the afternoon is free for leisure or you can enjoy a boat ride on the striking Lake Pichola, sailing past the sstunning City Palace, Jag Mandir Island and the famous Jag Niwas Island.

In the evening, we will transfer you to the hotel for an overnight stay.

• Best Time to Visit: Udaipur's location at the southern end of the Aravalli Range separates it from the Thar Desert, producing a semi-arid local steppe climate that's not too extreme. The cool, dry, and sunny months from October to February are most comfortable and draw the crowds. Nights do get nippy during the middle of winter, but the days are gloriously warm, with temperatures of up to 79 degrees Fahrenheit (26 degrees Celsius). If you'd prefer a more peaceful experience, the September shoulder season after the monsoon could be perfect. Only visit Udaipur during April and May if you don't mind temperatures touching 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius) or more. • Getting Around: Udaipur's narrow lanes are ideally explored on foot, so do bring comfortable walking shoes. Auto rickshaws are readily available and should cost under 100 rupees ($1.40) to go anywhere within the city. App-based cabs Uber and Ola are the most convenient way of reaching attractions on the city's outskirts. They're usually cheaper and less-hassle than auto rickshaws.
• Travel Tip: If hot weather isn't an issue, the Gangaur festival takes place in April and is the biggest festival of the year in Udaipur. The three-day Mewar festival, dedicated to showcasing the region's culture, is held alongside it and is a fun experience.

Simply wandering the streets and soaking up the atmosphere are among the most enjoyable things to do in Udaipur. Those who are feeling energetic can cycle around the city, hike in the hills, or even go horseback riding. Cooking classes are a hit with foreigners. Udaipur is renowned for its unique miniature paintings, and they make great gifts. You can even paint your own. What to Eat and Drink

Distinct from predominantly vegetarian Rajasthani cuisine, the local Mewari cuisine in Udaipur features an assortment of rustic meat dishes, as the royal rulers of the region were avid hunters. Laal Maas (spicy red mutton curry) is the most famous dish. Fresh fish from the region's lakes is part of the cuisine too. You may even find rabbit on some restaurant menus!

Vegetarians can try regional specialties such as Gatte ki Sabji (steamed chickpea flour dumplings in a tangy tomato and yogurt curry) and Dal Bati Churma. Udaipur is also renowned for its deep-fried snacks such as Mirchi Bada (large green chilies stuffed with spices and potato) and Kachori (pastry discs with spiced lentils or onion fillings). For sweet tooths, there are desserts, including Malpua (pancakes fried and dunked in sugar syrup) and Ghevar (a cake-like dish soaked in sugar syrup and ghee).

Where to Stay

The majority of Udaipur's accommodations are situated on Lake Pichola's east side, in the Lal Ghat, Gangaur Ghat, and Chandpole areas bordering the lake. This is on the same side of the lake as the City Palace and is in the heart of the old part of the city, so you'll have easy access to the main attractions. Two authentic palace hotels are set within the City Palace Complex itself—the Taj Fateh Prakash Palace Hotel and Shiv Niwas Palace Hotel (which features in "Octopussy"). The ethereal Taj Lake Palace Hotel, which appears to float right in the middle of Lake Pichola, is the top choice, though.

Across the bridge, the northwest side of Lake Pichola around Hanuman Ghat is quieter, but hotels proliferate. The benefit of staying on this side of the lake is that you'll be able to see the City Palace across the lake. Luxury five-star hotels such as The Leela and the Oberoi Udaivilas also front this side of the lake, albeit in more isolated spots.

Getting There

Udaipur's airport is 30 to 40 minutes east of the city. It's a small domestic airport that receives flights from Jaipur and major cities in India, including Delhi and Mumbai.

Udaipur is situated about five hours south of Jodhpur , and there are several attractions (such as Kumbhalgarh fort and Ranakpur Jain temple) to check out on the way. Therefore, it makes sense to hire a car and driver to travel between these two cities if you're exploring Rajasthan. You can also drive from Jaipur to Udaipur, or vice-versa, and spend a night in Bundi to break the journey. (Bundi is about five hours from Udaipur and four hours from Jaipur).

Indian Railways trains stop at Udaipur, although services are quite limited. The railway station, Udaipur City, is only five minutes east of the City Palace area. Its station code is UDZ.

Culture and Customs

Tipping isn't compulsory in India, although it's expected if you're happy with the service. A 10 to 15 percent tip is sufficient at a restaurant, or simply round the bill up on smaller amounts. Flag down the waiter to get your bill. Hotels will commonly have a tip box where you can leave gratuities for the staff. Tour guides can be tipped a couple of hundred rupees per day, and around 400 rupees for drivers.

Being a popular tourist destination, Udaipur has its share of scams to watch out for. Beware of anyone who tells you a royal wedding is about to take place (they'll lead you to a tailor's shop to get an overpriced outfit made for the non-existent occasion), or that they're involved in exhibiting special embroidery or other handicrafts (which they'll end up trying to sell you).

Dress standards are fairly conservative in Udaipur. It's respectful to keep your shoulders and legs below the knee covered. Ladies, if it's hot and you want to wear a sleeveless top or dress, solve the problem by throwing on a shawl when necessary.

Money Saving Tips

• Hotel rates fall by 50 to 75 percent from March until the end of September, during the summer and monsoon season. For some people, this may make luxury hotels affordable. Fantastic deals are guaranteed during this time, no matter where you stay.
• Grab an unlimited Rajasthani thali (platter) for lunch. You'll be able to eat as much as you can for only a few dollars.
• Haggling is expected at markets and other stores that aren't fixed-price (such as government emporiums). Here are some tips for bargaining to help with the process.

Maharana Shakti Singh of Bagore, who resided in the haveli, incorporated three storeys to the main structure, in 1878 AD. Named after Maharana Fateh Singh, Fateh Sagar Lake was initially constructed by Maharana Jai Singh in 1678 AD. However, after a span of 200 years, the earthen bund, which formed the lake, was washed away during floods. Day : 2   Day in Jaipur

When in Jaipur, you must visit places such as City Palace, Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, Amer Fort, Jal Mahal. Day : 5   Jaisalmer - Jodhpur (5 Hrs Journey)

8 Days Rajasthan Tour, Jaipur Jaisalmer Jodhpur and Udaipur Tour

Since long I’ve been wanting to explore few famous cities of Rajasthan with my family but we were waiting for the winter break. When the winter break was about to begin, we started searching for Rajasthan tour packages online and the tour package offered by Select India was the best because it exactly matched our budget and requirements. So we went for this. This was our first ever trip to India, we were completely unaware about the land and even had second thoughts about the trip until we realized that choosing Select India as our travel guide was the best decision we made.

The initial 2 days of the trip were in the Pink City of India, that is Jaipur. So, we landed at Jaipur airport and a taxi was pre-booked to pick us up and drop us at Vimal heritage. The hotel seemed pleasant and royal because of its traditional ambience and the rooms were pretty clean and equipped with all the basic facilities. After a long rest, our tour operator Mr. Ramesh came to pick us from the hotel for sightseeing.

First, Mr. Ramesh took us to the most beautiful part of Jaipur that is Amber fort and palace. The architecture was beautiful and Sheesha Mahal is a beautiful hall. My kids really enjoyed the Elephant ride there. The next visit was to the Hawa Mahal which is one of the most visited monuments because of its giant crown like design. Later Mr. Ramesh took us to the famous Chowki dhani which is a great place with nice ambience and serves a variety of cuisines. 2nd day was also great as Mr. Ramesh took us to the City Palace that is one of the most remarkable monuments. We spent quite some time at the great museum in there which showcases Rajput culture. Later we he took us to the famous Pink city bazaar where my kids bought a lot of traditional Indian things.

Next morning, we travelled to our next spot that was Jaisalmer via road and in about 10 hours we reached our hotel, Golden haveli. The place was comfortable with a beautiful architecture and great facilities. Later during the day, we went for a Desert Safari in Jaisalmer where I and my family enjoyed the scenic view on a camel ride. Mr. Ramesh took us to the Jaisalmer fort which is indeed a beautiful palace. 2nd day at Jaisalmer was fun too as Mr. Ramesh took us to the Gadisar lake where we enjoyed the view from a boat ride and then we visited the main Bazaar of the town which was beautifully decorated.

Later at night we checked out for our next destination that was Jodhpur and via road - we reached in approximately 5 hours where we checked in to Mandore guest house which is a great place to stay. Later that night, Mr. Ramesh took us to the famous Mehrangarh fort and museum which is a captivating massive site with preserved art. Then we visited the popular Kalyana lake. We had our dinner at the hotel and no the food and service were very good.

Next day we left for Udaipur and after a 4-hour ride, we checked in to Amantra Comfort, a comfortable place with gorgeous décor. 1st day Mr. Ramesh took us to the famous city palace with enthral art and one of the oldest and largest lakes, Lake Pichola. 2nd day at Udaipur was great as we visited Sajjangarh fort renowned for the height it is made at and the famous Fateh Sagar lake which was as blue as the sky.

That is how my entire trip went and I am glad that I chose Select India as my travel guide.

It takes 10-12 hours for most of the buses to cover the distance between Jaipur to Udaipur. The ticket cost varies from INR 450 – 1000 depending upon the bus and seating quality. 1. ranthambore fort & national park.

  If you plan to go from Jaipur to Udaipur by road via NH-48, you get the option to explore a world-famous UNESCO heritage site – Ranthambore National Park. Situated in the Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan, this national park is famous as a tiger reserve. The district has many economical and luxurious stay options to choose from, making you plan an early morning safari to the national park.

While Ranthambore Fort gives a panoramic view of the entire wildlife sanctuary bustling here, taking a jeep safari into the forest may quench your thirst for a glimpse of the big cat, the royal Bengal tiger. 90 km from Jaipur, in the Ajmer district of Rajasthan, Kishangarh waits to tell the historic tales of this city to discerning travellers. The city has its name engraved in the history books. It houses Asia’s largest marble industry, the temple of nine planets that is the only such temple in the whole world, the architectural marvel Kishangarh Fort which is located on the road connecting India and Pakistan, and much more. If you are en route NH-58 from Jaipur, you get the option to visit Kishangarh before reaching Udaipur without going off the way.

Perched on the Aravalis, another great option to pitstop while going from Jaipur to Udaipur by road is the holy town of Pushkar. Reaching Udaipur

As you move closer to Udaipur, you will find lesser traffic. You can stop by the famous temple town of Nathdwara, which is about 50 km before Udaipur. Vande Bharat Train Between Udaipur and Jaipur to Change Routes

The Vande Bharat train, launched last September, is undergoing significant route changes due to low passenger numbers. Starting September 1, the train will operate on a new schedule to increase its usage.

Operate Three Days a Week

Previously running six days a week between Udaipur and Jaipur, the train will now operate three days a week on this route and the remaining three days between Udaipur and Agra Fort. The new schedule means it will run between Udaipur and Jaipur on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. On Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, it will travel from Udaipur to Agra Fort, covering a distance of about 800 kilometers.

Timing Schedule

The train will depart Udaipur at 5:45 AM and reach Agra at 2:30 PM. After a brief stop, it will leave Agra at 3:00 PM and arrive back in Udaipur at 11:45 PM. The fare details are expected to be released soon.

The decision for these changes follows reports from Dainik Bhaskar, which highlighted that the train's average passenger load was only 47%. Despite being in operation during peak tourist seasons, the train saw no significant increase in passengers.

Comparison With Other Trains

For comparison, other trains like the Khajuraho and Ananya trains, which also connect Udaipur and Agra, have different schedules and fare structures. The Khajuraho train departs Udaipur at 10:10 PM and arrives in Agra Cantt the next morning. The Ananya train runs weekly, departing Udaipur every Monday at 12:45 AM and reaching Tundla Junction the next day. Fares for these trains range from Rs 1010/- to Rs 2410/- depending on the class.

A new Raffles hotel opened in India's 'Pink City.’ Here's what it looks like inside

The iconic Raffles hotel brand announced the opening of Raffles Jaipur on July 8 — the second to open in the Indian subcontinent. 

The first, Raffles Udaipur, opened in 2021. Both hotels are in Rajasthan, a northwestern Indian state known for its stunning forts and historical palaces, like the Hawa Mahal .

Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan, earned its colorful nickname after its buildings were painted pink as a show of hospitality to a visiting English monarch in 1876. 

Raffles Jaipur comprises 50 rooms and suites, each different in layout and decor, according to a press release announcing the hotel's opening. 

Inside the hotel

The hotel has nine room and suite levels, each with butler service and balconies outfitted with an outdoor tub or plunge pool.

The hotel's entry-level "Landmark Rooms" are 70 square meters (753 square feet) and can accommodate two guests, according to the hotel's website .

Suites at the hotel include a separate living room area and range from the 807-square-foot Junior Suite to the 2,572-square-foot Rajmata two-bedroom presidential suite that comes with a pool, steam room and kitchenette.

Hand-carved sandstone columns, patterned marble floors and Mughal furnishing deck the hotel's courtyard. 

Rates at Raffles Jaipur start at 45,000 Indian rupees ($539).  

Dining at the hotel

The original Raffles hotel, Raffles Singapore, famously introduced the Singapore Sling back in 1915. 

Raffles Jaipur has its own version of the drink, the pink-hued Jaipur Sling, made with Indian dry gin and orange liquor. It's served at the Writers Bar, one of two bars at the hotel. 

A second bar, Sehara, is on the hotel's rooftop and serves Mediterranean-inspired dishes, according to the press release. 

Guests can dine at Arkaa, a progressive North Indian restaurant, where breakfast is also served. 

Afternoon tea occurs daily in the Safir Atrium Tea & Champagne Lounge. Tea-infused finger foods are served on trolleys alongside loose-leaf teas and tea-based whisky cocktails.

Raffles Jaipur houses a 6,674-square-feet spa that has hot and cold mineral pools and one-to-one yoga and meditation sessions.

The hotel is planning an Artisan Trail later this year, which will allow guests to observe Rajasthani craftmakers at work.

Binny Sebastian is the general manager of Raffles Jaipur. He joined Raffles Hotels & Resorts in December 2023, after stints at Taj, Alila and Six Senses hotels in Asia. 

Raffles Jaipur is the 22nd Raffles hotel in the world, following the opening of Raffles Al Areen Palace Bahrain in January. 

Two more Raffles hotels are slated to open this year: the Raffles Sentosa in Singapore and Raffles Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
