ANNOUNCE UK HEADLINE TOUR DATES 2023

Interpol have announced their return to the UK this year with five headline dates in Brighton, Leeds, Edinburgh, Bristol and Liverpool across May, June and July. The band will be joined by special guests Water From Your Eyes all on all dates except for Liverpool.

The band released their seventh critically acclaimed album ‘The Other Side of Make-Believe’ in July 2022. Imbued with pastoral longing and newfound grace, the record also explores the more sinister undercurrents of the present day. Daniel Kessler's serpentine guitar arrangements crest skywards in "Into The Night," Samuel Fogarino shatters his percussive precision into strange meters, while Paul Bank's vocals exudes a deep, yearning vulnerability. Produced by the legendary team of Flood and Moulder, Interpol's new album is a masterpiece of sadness, darkness, and introspection.

With a busy year ahead, Interpol will also perform upcoming live dates in Mexico this May, as well as huge summer festival appearances in the UK, Ireland and Europe.

Tickets for their UK tour go on general sale Friday 17th March at 9:00am and will be available from www.gigsandtours.com   / www.ticketmaster.co.uk

In addition to the scheduled shows above, the band will also perform at the Theaterfabrik in Munich, Germany, on June 15. They were also named as one of the performers  for this year's Outside Lands Music Festival at the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, California on August 11 to 13, 2023.

It appears that Interpol has a busy year ahead as they will also headline the Bearded Theory Festival on May 25 to 28 at Catton Hall in Derbyshire.

Other performers in the lineup include The Mysterines, Viagra Boys, Gogol Bordello, Yard Act, Flogging Molly, and many more. Tickets and more information about the music festival are available in this link .

The recent announcement comes a few months after the band released their latest studio album titled "The Other Side Of Make Believe."

In early reports, band members Paul Banks, Sam Fogarino, and Daniel Kessler, revealed that the project was entirely written during the pandemic and used e-mail as their number one form of communication. (via Rolling Stone )

Nearly a year later, they got together and reunited to continue their songwriting sessions as well as rehearse for their recording. They finally recorded in North London later that year along with Alan Moulder and Flood.

In April 2022, the band dropped their first single "Toni," followed by three more releases: "Something Changed, "Fables," and "Gran Hotel."

"Still in shape, my methods refined," sings Paul Banks on 'Toni', the opening track and lead single from Interpol's 7th LP The Other Side of Make-Believe . The album breaks fresh ground for the group: parallel to exploring the sinister undercurrents of contemporary life, Interpol's new songs are imbued with pastoral longing and newfound grace. Daniel Kessler's serpentine guitar arrangements crest skywards, Samuel Fogarino shatters his percussive precision into strange metres, while Paul Banks' sonorous voice exudes a vulnerability that is likely to catch most long-term fans of the band off guard. After all, says Banks, "there's always a seventh time for a first impression."

The Other Side of Make-Believe began remotely across 2020. In early 2021, Interpol reconvened to flesh out new material at a rented home in the Catskills, before completing it later that year in North London, working for the first time with production veteran Flood (Mark Ellis), as well as teaming up again with former co-producer Alan Moulder.

If fate didn't quite ordain the circumstances for Interpol's seventh album, it was at least fortunate that the band had happily concluded their Marauder cycle on stage in front of 30 thousand-odd Peruvian fans. Rather than be sent scrambling like so many other musicians, when the first lockdown clamped Interpol had no new release to promote and no tour to rearrange. They quickly got into a productive mood.

Writing on their own in those geographically-dispersed early stages gave the members a way out of their respective heads: "We really extracted the honey out of this situation", says Fogarino. Kessler echoes the sentiment: "Working alone was raw at first, but has opened up a vivid new chapter for us." In the Interpol Venn Diagram, each member found a way of expanding their individual circle in perfect harmony.

As Banks was grounded in Edinburgh for close to nine months, he got cosy in a window-side chair with a pen, pad and atypically cream-coloured bass guitar. "We usually write live, but for the first time I'm not shouting over a drumkit," he says. "Daniel and I have a strong enough chemistry that I could picture how my voice would complement the scratch demos he emailed over. Then I could turn the guys down on my laptop, locate these colourful melodies and generally get the message across in an understated fashion." Banks adjusting his personal volume dimmer to a hush chimes with a period of global disquiet and the yearn for reconnection: "It's like Mickey Rourke in Barfly , singing to a patron at the end of the tabletop, and we never felt the need to flip that smoky intimacy into something big and loud when it came to rehearse and record. I got a real kick out of doing the opposite."

Coming from a group whose early material was characterised by Polish knife-wielders and incarcerated serial killers, you might expect Interpol's take on the present day to be an emotional tar pit -- perhaps doubly so, given the towering credentials of Flood and Moulder's history with Nine Inch Nails, Curve, Gary Numan, Depeche Mode and more.

Yet Banks felt the call to push in a "counterbalancing" direction, with paeans to mental resilience and the quiet power of going easy. "The nobility of the human spirit is to rebound," he says. "Yeah, I could focus on how fucked everything is, but I feel now is the time when being hopeful is necessary, and a still-believable emotion within what makes Interpol Interpol." Kessler concurs: "The process of writing this record and searching for tender, resonant emotions took me back to teenage years; it was transformative, almost euphoric. I felt a rare sensation of purpose biting on the end of my fishing rod and I was compelled to reel it in."

Even with spare piano caressing the intro of 'Something Changed', open-hearted cyclical chord progressions on 'Passenger', or anthemic waves of Kessler's cresting guitar on 'Big Shot City', it doesn't mean Interpol are entirely stopping to smell the roses, though. The Other Side of Make-Believe 's title, cover and a frequent lyrical lean toward fables, smokescreens and the mutability of truth reflect Banks' disgust with the curdling of the information age. "I feel like the slipperiness of reality, and being willing to get violent on the basis of a factual disagreement, has had a super strenuous effect on the psyche of everyone in the world. Although," he laughs, "I was talking about it so often that it kind of spooked my bandmates, so I found a way to express my concerns more through the lens of human beings' non-rational faculties, and less civilizational collapse."

On The Other Side of Make-Believe , a deep interpersonal understanding means each member respects the other's respective strengths better than ever, letting Interpol's elemental qualities shine through. Song by song, Kessler sketches the architectural blueprint (invariably while watching a film -- locus of inspiration for almost every song in the band's catalogue), Banks frames artwork on the wall, then Fogarino arranges the furniture to have a certain positioning and intent.

Fogarino highlights Flood's part in this equation "was to hyperbolise all of our good qualities. Our band has never exploited rock 'n roll tropes, no big drum fills or wailing solos, so he located the core honesty in our sound and found a way to widen it. There's a phrase I love about drumming: 'the rhythm hates the melody' -- the best kind of drumming either totally accentuates what's being conveyed, or ploughs through it." So what does the splashy, dramatic beat on songs like 'Renegade Hearts' and 'Gran Hotel' imply? The answer comes back with a grin: "I guess Flood gave me room to plough."

The band found themselves struck by the producer's egoless way of operating and the breeziness of recording in his North London studio. They also seem charged by how much Flood and Moulder complimented, rather than challenged, their kinetic energy when performing. "I wouldn't change a thing," Kessler states. And though he means Flood and Moulder's contributions, that sentiment extends to Interpol's work as a whole.

The Other Side of Make-Believe will soon feel as familiar in the public consciousness as it is to Paul Banks, Daniel Kessler and Sam Fogarino. Ever the paradox, the noirish trio have weathered nearly seven albums' and several line-ups' worth of rollercoasters far better than anyone might have predicted, never letting their sense of purpose escape. Over time, tags like 'alternative' and 'indie' have even faded from view. They are simply a rock group nowadays; one of the most distinctive, consequential and enduring rock groups of the 21st century so far. And a quarter-century into their lifespan, the band are all fired up again.

Interpol: their methods refined, still in terrific shape.

Great show, venue okay.

Interpol is always a good time, takes you back, the nostalgia is real because they sound the same way live as they do on their tracks you play on spotify. They don't change up their sound, they even play classics and the time flies.

Excellent Interpol show!

A great venue (930 club in DC), to see the great Interpol. Only seen them before giving limited sets as openers. They delivered a smashing 19 song set in the intimacy of 930. I loved that they chose 3 nights in the small venue. So so cool!

Fantastic Interpol Shows at The Beacon Theatre

Interpol was on fire for their two amazing nights at The Beacon Theatre. Their sound and energy were outstanding! I feel like I have been re-living those nights!

Best concert ever

Interpol is my favorite band of all time. I’ve seen them all over the country and in Canada but the 9:30 club was truly the best location. There’s something about seeing Paul Banks and Daniel Kessler from 6 feet away for 60 bucks a ticket that makes my soul sing. They played a killer setlist with songs from all of their 7 albums. They are at their prime. It’s rewarding being an Interpol fan these days because they keep innovating and pushing the envelope.

It was smokin

This was my first time at the new 9:30 Club. This was my third time seeing Interpol live. The venue location was easy to get to and no paid parking really necessary. I paid for parking via the club but when I arrived the barricades were up but there were spits on the street. Having seen Interpol before, I had expectations on what the experience would be like, but the lighting seemed too dark and it was way too smokey. I don't know if it was the band or sound but something seemed off. Maybe the band really should have taken the night off, having performed the night before, just having played in NY and Japan. I really hope Sam Fogarino is back to health, his presence was missed. The staff at the venue were all pretty nice. All in all a good show.

Don't miss Interpol next time around!

Unforgettable performance, the audience was mesmerized. Interpol is hugely underrated, and, especially after seeing the mess that is Brian Jonestown Massacre at the 930 Club last, their professionalism was impressive -- great light show, too. Exceeded all expectations.

Sound issues

I was seated in the orchestra section. I have to say the sound at Beacon Theatre was very disappointing. It sounded like the speakers were old and not clean sounding. I remember walking out and the sound near the doors was even worse. I’ve seen interpol at king’s theatre and in mexico city and the sound was no issue. I will not be returning to Beacon Theatre.

Great set list, they never disappoint. We always enjoy their energy and passion. Can’t wait until the next time they are back home.

Great band and venue…but the sound

There were sound problems throughout the night. PA speakers were popping (likely DB levels and gain were too high) and drum mix was all over the place. This was not by song but through a song. Otherwise great venue, personable staff, and easy entrance and exit.

No I in Threesome

Excellent historic venue, opening band was terrible but Interpol excellent as usual. Hot food options not available and drinks overpriced.

About Interpol

Interpol iis an American rock band from New York City. Formed in 1997, the band's original line-up consisted of Paul Banks (vocals, guitar), Daniel Kessler (guitar, vocals), Carlos Dengler (bass guitar, keyboards) and Greg Drudy (drums, percussion). Drudy left the band in 2000 and was replaced by Sam Fogarino. In 2010, shortly after recording finished for the band's fourth album, Dengler left to pursue personal projects.

Interpol Shine As Bright As Ever At Beacon Theatre

interpol tour uk 2023

Fresh off a lengthy world tour, Interpol made their way back to New York for two hometown shows at Beacon Theatre on December 13 and 14. The band spent much of 2023 on the road, trekking across North America, Europe, and Australia before wrapping things up abroad with a big festival appearance at Maho Rasop in Thailand. After dazzling the New York faithful on the Upper West Side, Interpol head down I95 for three intimate sold out shows at D.C.s 9:30 Club next week.

Interpol released their seventh LP, The Other Side of Make-Believe , back in 2022 and have been touring regularly behind the record ever since. The band puts on a master class in staying true to their iconic sound while still pushing boundaries and making exciting new music that seamlessly expands their live palate. Songs from the last record stand toe to toe with the band’s timeless classics from their 2002 debut Turn On The Bright Lights . Kicking things off with the immortalized opening track “Untitled”, Interpol’s signature style reverberated around the iconic Beacon Theatre and ignited the crowd. As the boys moved through a career-spanning setlist, the crowd hung on every note, rarely returning to their seats until theater personnel eventually did turn on the bright lights.

interpol beacon theatre

Just ahead of the release of The Other Side Of Make Believe in 2022, Interpol hit Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre to preview the record. A year apart, the shows at Kings and Beacon had similar setlists yet were still surprising and attention grabbing without ever feeling dull. From the opening notes of “Untitled” to the final, soaring vocals of “PDA”, the crowd at Beacon was hanging on every note as if we were all experiencing an Interpol concert for the first time again. The magic behind a band like Interpol is always making fans feel like first timers, even after two decades of playing the hits.

Interpol have a special relationship with New York City. Not only is it the city the band was made in, but the city itself is their muse. Turn On The Bright Lights is a love affair with the New York, creating a cathartic experience for the band as well as the audience whenever they play the songs live. Whenever Interpol schedule dates around the city, we are drawn to another performance no matter how many times we have already had it.

After the shows in D.C., the band take a well-earned break before a busy festival season in 2024. Check out our photo gallery from Beacon Theatre below and head over to Interpol’s website for future tour dates.

Interpol add more European dates to 2024 ‘Antics’ 20th anniversary tour

The new shows are in addition to a string of UK dates in November

Interpol

Interpol have added four extra European shows to their ‘Antics’ 20th-anniversary tour, which will take place later this year.

  • READ MORE: Interpol on 20 years of ‘Antics’ and touring with The Cure: “It was another era”

The album, released in 2004, was the band’s second studio album and peaked at Number 15 on the Billboard 200 and at Number 21 in the UK Albums Chart. The album’s singles included indie disco staples ‘ Slow Hands ’,  ‘Evil’ , alongside fan favourites ‘ C’mere ’ and  ‘Narc’ .

The record cemented the band’s success after the seminal debut ‘Turn On The Bright Lights’ and went on to become a classic of the era. It led to the band signing to a major label for the mainstream success of their third album ‘Our Love To Admire’.

The band will play the album in full for six shows in the UK in November, but before that, they will now play some European shows to celebrate the album’s 20th anniversary. The tour will kick off in Stockholm on October 19 before moving on to Copenhagen the following night and will finish with two shows in Amsterdam on October 29 and 30.

Pre-sale will begin at 10am CEST on April 24 exclusively through The Big House community. General sale will open on Friday (April 26), also at 10am.

Europe! We can't wait to return this October to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Antics with you all! ➡️ Pre-sale will run from 10am CEST on Wednesday 24 April, exclusively via The Big House. ➡️ General sale begins at 10am CEST Friday 26 April. We'll have even more to share… pic.twitter.com/eDxPBlp4oS — Interpol (@Interpol) April 22, 2024

You can find the UK dates below and find any remaining tickets here .

The upcoming Interpol tour dates are:

Recommended.

OCTOBER 19 – Stockholm, Sweden, Cirkus 20 – Copenhagen, National Radio Koncerthuset 29 – Amsterdam, Paradiso 30 – Amsterdam, Paradiso

NOVEMBER 1 – Wolverhampton, The Halls 2 – Manchester, O2 Apollo 4 – Glasgow, Royal Concert Hall 5 – Newcastle, O2 City Hall 7 – Bristol, Beacon 8 – London, Alexandra Palace

The band’s drummer Sam Fogarino recently confirmed that he will not be joining the band on the road “for the time being” after having spinal surgery, which includes the ‘Antics’ anniversary dates.

The band also  played ‘Antics’ in full at a special gig in Paris  last year, months ahead of the 19th anniversary of that album. The show took place at the Philharmonie de Paris and saw the band air ‘A Time To Be So Small’ for the first time since 2007.

Speaking to  NME  recently , guitarist Daniel Kessler explained: “We did  two shows in France where we played ‘Antics’ in full  [last year], and it’s been really strange. It’s nerve-wracking at first.”

He continued: “It might not seem that much of a stretch for a band to play an album in sequence, but it really is. It’s sequenced for the record in a very intentional way, but performing it as such means going from first gear to fourth gear and vice versa.

“When we did those two shows, it really took some activating and getting used to – regardless of how many times you’ve played those songs before.”

Additionally, Interpol are set to to open for  Smashing Pumpkins  in Europe this summer. “We did some shows with them last year and they were a lot of fun,” Kessler told  NME .

“We really try to feel it out each night per situation. I saw Smashing Pumpkins play when I was in high school, so it’s really great to be playing with them.”

Meanwhile, the band played  the biggest show of their career at the weekend before a crowd of over 150,000 people. The New York band graced the huge Zócalo square in the city centre for the free show,  which they had first announced earlier this month .
