Stunning Tours
- Excellent - 405 reviews for Japan tours
4.5 Stars - This is a great tour! The group size was just right. Our tour guide, Gary, and our driver were professional, friendly and knowledgeable. There were a couple stops we wished we had longer time but highly recommend this tour.
Our family of 7 loved every minute of our tour. Our guide Gary was so very personable, knowledgeable & patient. We loved his subtle reminders to be on time or don’t forget personal items. His suggestion for restaurants or foods to try at our various stops were always on point! The other people/families were all wonderful as well. Our bus driver was such a skilled driver, we felt save & loved how he managed tight turns and parking. We would definitely recommend this tour group for first timers wanting to see a little bit of everything.
Agate Travel

Yes it was a very busy tour, it would have been nice to have a little down time. Too much crammed into each day. Felt like an endurance trip.
I booked this tour last minute. It was an amazing experience and went beyond my expectations. The travel consultant Nicole has been friendly and helpful, always responded to me promptly. The tour guide in TOKYO was enthusiastic. He answered my questions with detailed information. I enjoyed chatting with him... He also took me nice pictures of Mount FUJI. Here I have to say I was VERY VERY lucky! The weather on the day was favourable and I was able to see the breathtaking view of FUJI. Thanks to agate travel for this wonderful travel experience. Highly recommend!

I just completed the Japan Into tour and would definitely recommend it to everyone! Lots of great activities, tons of culture, the food, the karaoke… what more can you ask for?! And I must mention our tour leader Adam… I’ve done many tours in my life and he was simply the best leader I’ve ever had. So don’t miss out, book this tour asap!
I had an amazing time in Japan, and a big part of that was thanks to Adam, our brilliant tour leader. He was super accommodating, always making sure everyone was happy and comfortable. What really stood out was his great sense of humour – he kept us laughing throughout the trip, which made everything even more enjoyable. Adam was always eager to help, whether it was sorting out last-minute plans or giving tips on the best places to eat. His knowledge of Japan was impressive, but he never made anything feel too formal or overwhelming. If you’re lucky enough to have Adam leading your tour, you’re in for a fantastic time!

Very disappointing and I wished I had read more reviews prior to booking - leader did not speak English well, did not know public transportation system, left people behind, missed some locations on itinerary, no information provided on Japan, and no attention to the health and well being of the group. Please be careful when choosing this tour company.
Wonderful trip! Wonderful guide! Would definitely recommend. ❤️
On The Go Tours
- Excellent - 3,035 reviews for Japan tours
First tour guide for the first 8 days was great, second tour guide tried hard and seemed lovely as a person, but she was disorganized, oblivious of who was or wasn’t following her, was unaware of where she was going at times, and just didn’t seem like she knew how to do the job. I’m not the only one who felt that way. Your pre trip support was excellent and accommodating, but having taken a number of tours with other organizations, Rick steve’s in Europe, you charge a lot when offering very little. I will not recommend your tour group to anyone, and will most likely discourage others from taking one.
Genuinely fast paced very active tour with moderate quality hotels and well priced

The tour was great and well organized despite the small duration. I would definitely recommend. Ngoc was always happy to answer all my questions and was able to provide solutions to my request. Overall very good experience!
The tour was a great experience for us, seeing it was the first time we booked one. The tour host was supportive all the way through the duration of the tour in giving instructions and advice to make our travel plans as easy as possible. Where changes needed to be made to the itinerary, due to unforeseen circumstances, we were updated quickly and issued a refund, for an event that had to be cancelled, due to adverse weather condition warnings. We were very pleased with the daily tours we went on. The guides were very informative helpful and courteous. The choice of attractions to visit was great as well, such as the temples in Tokyo and the Tokyo Sky Tree Attraction. The hotel stays were great also. We would without hesitation use this company again, if we choose to book a tour to another country in the near future. The only negative experience we had, was the weather being so hot at the time of year in August, (38 degrees plus most times) we would shelter in air-conditioned places as much as possible during the day. Many thanks to this company, for the smooth and memorable experience.

The tour organizer has very, very poor communication, planning and organizational skills. The final itinerary was sent 2weeks before the start of the actual trip, I have to remind them by email to send it to us asap as they promised it will be sent a month before the actual trip. We where told initially that they will arrange our airport transfer and have told them we will be arriving two days before the actual tour, but after days before we've been told that we have to do it ourselves. The two hotel from original itinerary was changed on the final one provided so it caused some confusion on our side. Their representative met with us on the first day of the tour to sort out our JR. Pass and it took 2hours of our precious time to do this, we almost missed the pre-booked museum that day. Their hotel choices where below average, first one is in Ikeburo with bfast included but only seaweed soup and toast where given, again we have to travel to Shinjuku station to get the train to Hakone (very inconvenient), they could just chosen a hotel in Shinjuku instead. In the morning next we arrived in Hakone, we supposed to drop off our luggage at the next hotel to free our hands to roam around the area and found that it was closed and nobody around to asked for information so we have to dragged our luggage back to the station to put them in the locker. I have contacted their representative but he even asked me the name of the hotel (unbelievable, how could he not know all this details). They replied around 2.30ish pm and was told it was unmanned and we where given a PIN number to access, again they should have known this important details and informed us even the day/night before the trip. The next day we travelled again to Kyoto, to avoid the hassle of dropping off our luggage palarva we've decided to use the coin lockers at the station. It was late in the afternoon when we arrived at the hotel the receptionist asked us to pay City Tax 1200yen for 3nights stay, this again we where unaware of. I messaged the representative and to the people on the WhatsApp group and question about this city tax, they said they will refund me with the money so no choice I have paid.Again breakfast was included but only varieties of bread available and some butter and jams and coffee or water. Unsatisfied again. On arrival at Hiroshima after 3days this is where the confusion happens as the name of the hotel was different on the final itinerary they've sent us (this was our mistake we owned this as we didn't checked the final itinerary). We've only stayed at the Flex hotel (supposed to be two nights) for a night as wanting to have more time in Osaka instead (paid privately for one night
I recently took a trip to Japan and visited Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto, Hiroshima, and Osaka, and I can confidently say it was one of the best travel experiences I've ever had! The tours were fantastic and provided great insights into each city's culture and history. The transportation was also very reliable, making it easy to get around from one city to another. The accommodations were top-notch, with comfortable rooms and excellent service. I highly recommend booking a trip to Japan with Bamba and experiencing all that it has to offer!

The guides were knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. The itinerary appeared to be well planned and the time spent at each location adequate. Our guide Tomas stood out for us with his knowledge, friendly nature and understanding the culture and history of Japan.
When I booked my 8 day tour of Japan I was excited to get to see Tokyo and Kyoto with my 'tour group'. What I did not expect was that the 'tour' was really just a few day tours that were booked for me that I had to navigate my way through the city to find the starting points. When someone books a group tour they typically are expecting that they are with the same people doing the same tour. The group is staying at the same hotel/hostel and the tour guide and bus pick up and drop off the group at the hotel. I found that I spent a lot of my time just trying to figure out how to use the trains/subway/buses just to try to make sure I could get to the location that the day tour bus was waiting. Because of this I did not get to my first day tour on time and missed it altogether. Luckily after I contacted them I was able to rebook the day tour to Mt. Fuji on my free day in Tokyo. I was really disappointed that I had to spend all my time trying to navigate everywhere myself. I could have booked the day tours myself knowing that I would have to navigate by myself. I also did not appreciate that my 'group tour' was not a group tour instead I was the sole person in my group and I was just meeting up with people on a day tour for a single day. What I take away from this is that I will be booking my next vacations with tour companies that I have booked group tours with before that were actually a group tour and not just me on my own. The only reason I did not go with a bad rating was because I was able to see many great parts of Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Mt. Fuji etc. I was just disappointed with the overall organization and communication.

A good overall experience in the sights and experiences of modern-day Japan. The tour guide, Osman, was knowledgeable, competent, pleasant, and willing to deviate from the standard tour destination lineup if circumstances warranted. When a typhoon hit the Tokyo area causing the cancellation of our Bullet Train ride, he was able to re-schedule it on another day and took us elsewhere. When the weather reports indicated Mt. Fuji's peak area would be visible that day (not clouded over) he took a vote while we were on the bus and dropped the planned destination in favor of going directly to the celebrated site to experience it in its full glory. He also tried to compensate for my mobility impairment with advice and options, as well as interactions and explanations to the Japanese staff of the hotels. Being the only dedicated photographer in the group of better-moving members was also a challenge for both of us --- every time I stopped to take a picture, I'd look up to discover the rest of the tour making a turn a block away and I had to rush to play 'catch-up', which came to be physically wearing. The bus driver was outstandingly competent on the narrow roads and unfailingly helpful, having my stored rollator ready whenever I emerged from the air-conditioned bus. I wasn't expecting the heat (33'+C ... 90+F) or the thick humid air (Canadian, after all), but the buildings in many destinations and all hotels were air-conditioned (with individual room controls), and I adopted the practice of many Japanese men of carrying a washcloth in my pocket to wipe the sweat off my forehead. A neck fan and sweat bands helped as well. An unforgettably intense and informative experience, which we will almost certainly repeat someday.
Absolutely Brilliant tour. Couldn’t fault anything at all. All the inclusions were amazing, excellent value and it ran so smoothly. Hotel accommodation was superb, we thought it may have been smaller hotels, but they were fantastic, all in good locations if you wanted to wander out at night. Breakfast everyday included an optional Japanese breakfast, but we enjoyed the full buffet. Lunches that were included were of great value, traditional and so yum. The temples were amazing, you could choose how long you had there and easy meeting points, Seb the guide was reall

Had an overall great time with the tour! The itinerary is pretty laid-back and was tailored for our group interests, and the people were all very fun to hang with! Would definitely take some time after the tour to explore outside of the Tokyo area, but this is a great launch pad if you want to learn the ropes of navigating the island without too much stress.
This has been such an experience, I will never forget my time in NY. The tour guide, Lloyd, was the best, he showed us the best places to eat and took us to the most beautiful temples and historical spots, which he knew the history of so well. I feel like not only I visited and experienced Japan in a special way, I learned so much from Japan's culture and lifestyle in a way I never would have learned if I went on a different tour.

Evie was a great tour leader. Making sure everything runs on time mostly and stuff is sorted. Very cheerful energy to keep the group energised. We have seen a lot things and she was very mindful on mixing people up in dorms or rooms. As well she was always there to answer questions from all of us. There were no troubles or dramas Despite this a few things to improve: - don’t rely on convenient stores for breakfast and lunch.. it’s not very environmental friendly plus a lot of sugars and not very nutritional food - a bit more relaxed pace on some stops, sometimes we were just rushing through something to get an ice cream (Osaka Castle) or see a shrine - it’s a shame we spend 5-8 hours to Takayaka and Koyasan we were there for one night - in Kyoto we barely had time to eat in the morning or having proper lunch while most of the group got really drunk .. next day half group was coughing / sick
Most amazing trip of my life for sure. Saw everything I wanted to and more + met the best group of people including our tour guide Evie. Who felt more like a friend than guide, always checking in, making jokes and keeping the banter going (even during those early mornings!!) I couldn't have asked for anything else from this trip. Thank you OneLife and Evie for the best time of my life ❤️

Popular Locations to Visit in Japan
Before you hire an agent, however, it’s good to have a basic idea of where you would like to go. Below are some of the most popular destinations to help you narrow down your travel plans.
You could easily spend your entire trip exploring Tokyo and still find yourself wanting to see more. It offers something for everyone from sports and entertainment, to art, culture, history, cuisine, and shopping.
Kyoto was once the medieval capital of Japan. Much of the old city is still preserved, making it a top destination for Japanophiles hoping for a peek into the country’s feudal past. You can still fully immerse yourself in traditional Japanese culture by visiting a variety of shrines, temples, and shop-lined alleys.
Distance from Tokyo: 135 minutes by bullet train
Nikko , located to the north of Tokyo, is home to the famous Toshogu shrine. This shrine was dedicated to the Tokugawa shogunate and is considered one of the most beautiful and ornate shrines in all of Japan. The surrounding forest includes an impressive set of waterfalls, as well as some wonderful onsen , or natural hot springs.
Distance from Tokyo: 140 minutes by limited express train
Kamakura is a leisurely day trip from Tokyo and full of shrines and castles. This area was the capital of Japan during the Kamakura period. It offers a great combination of historical sites and hiking opportunities. Go just a little farther out to the nearby island of Enoshima for a fun day at the beach — a spot so relaxing you won’t believe Shinjuku is less than two hours away.
Distance from Tokyo: 60 minutes by local train
Mt. Fuji, Japan’s iconic volcano, is unmistakable. The official climbing season is from May to October. It’s recommended that you only attempt the ascent during this period. There are many official groups with which you can make the ascent, so only seasoned climbers should try to go up solo.
Distance from Tokyo: 170 minutes by express and local trains
Popular Seasonal Activities in Japan
There’s something for nearly every outdoor interest when it comes to touring Japan, but there are certain areas and activities that are particularly worth exploring depending on the season.
The most important event of spring is hanami, a fleeting week where all of the cherry blossoms bloom simultaneously in a blaze of soft pink. While it’s possible to guess which week will be blessed with the event each year, there are often changes in weather that result in the window changing, so we recommend casting your net wide for a longer stay to ensure that you get the chance to experience a picnic beneath a radiant canopy of flowers.
Summer is the typical season for international tourists, but be warned: major metropolises like Tokyo and Osaka get uncomfortably hot and humid. That being said, Japan has keeping cool down to an art form, and the most popular outdoor activities include summer festivals boasting music, singing, and drums that you will hear deep into the night.
There are also many opportunities to enjoy massive firework festivals throughout the season in Tokyo, Osaka, and other major cities. If your trip happens to line up with one of these events, be sure not to miss it.
The fall foliage is truly something to behold throughout Japan. The displays across the mountains rival any in the world. Especially against the backdrop of so many ancient temples and shrines, you can begin to understand why the Japanese hold nature sacred. With temperatures cooling, this is an ideal time to come to Japan.
Winter is perhaps the least popular of the seasons, unless you head north of Tokyo. Nagano and Niseko’s alpine slopes covered in powder snow are worth a visit at least once in your life if you’re an avid skier. After a full day’s activities, it’s common to find yourself sitting in front of a steaming communal hotpot or a bowl of intensely flavorful ramen. This is also a popular season to indulge in a hot spring vacation.
Arriving in Japan
The final question is where you will be flying into Japan: Haneda or Narita. Almost all international travel into Japan goes through these two major hubs, both located near Tokyo. While Narita is larger, it’s also further out of the way in Tokyo’s neighboring prefecture of Chiba. Haneda, on the other hand, is right in Tokyo.
Both airports have had significant facelifts in the last few years, and right now it’s not that difficult to travel into Tokyo from either one. If you would like more information, check out our full guides to traveling from Narita and Haneda into Tokyo

The idea of exploring exotic cultures and countries can easily ignite the imagination, but planning what to do can be a headache without having a guide who understands what you’re looking for, which is why we highly recommend working with one of Japan’s many English-friendly travel agents.
While travel agencies in the West have mostly fallen out of fashion, many Japanese people still use these services as their primary source of travel planning. With so many competing for a slice of the pie, this gives you, the traveler, a chance to save big and enjoy the kind of vacation only a cultural insider can make happen.

Kawaguchi Lake |Mt.Fuji
A maple corridor with 60 giant maple trees on the shores of Kawaguchi Lake. Lake Kawaguchi turned deep red with leaves against the background of Mt.Fuji, is the art of autumn.
Obara Shikizakura |Central Japan
Shikizakura is a rare cherry blossom tree, which blooms twice a year, in spring and autumn. And Obara is an area where you can enjoy "beautiful collaboration of red and white".
Kurodake Ropeway |Hokkaido
Watching the rich nature and majestic scenery from his ropeway. The trees that are dyed yellow make Hokkaido feel the arrival of autumn. This is a spot where you can enjoy the earliest autumn leaves in Japan.
Itsukushima Shrine |Hiroshima
The vivid vermilion-painted temple standing in the Seto Inland Sea is one of Japan's three most spectacular sights.
