I had pretty high expectations for this show and they were met. Extremely entertaining. Challenging in some parts, but their musicality and melodic sensibilities make their brand of fusion cool and accessible. You could bring any musically inclined person to see Snarky Puppy and they’d find something to love about it.

As a guitar player, I was a little bummed that Mark Lettieri was missing, but I guess I just need Fearless Flyers to come through Pittsburgh... Chris McQueen was a pleasure to watch, though. Would have loved to see Larnell, too, but the percussion was awesome. I’m pretty sure whatever lineup you see, you won’t be disappointed. Just don’t get attached to the idea of seeing a particular musician like I did. I will say the one member I really needed to see was Shaun Martin. He was there. I am happy.

Brush up on your metronome before you go. Mike League had the crowd clapping 4:3 which went surprisingly well (from where I was sitting, at least) but it coulda been tighter, and that’s coming from a guitar player. =P

My friend who was visiting from Central Mexico told me about a band who’d performed in his area. I noticed that they were playing in Dallas the next week and immediately bought tickets for him and I. I’m flabbergasted at their performance. Amazing Jazz fusion, memorable solos, interesting ideas and superb performers. The money I spent pales in comparison to the awesome time I had. Thank you so much Snarky Puppy!

The organization and support band were perfect. This was a hight quality conversation between the music elite. It was amazing to be a part of it. The content of the concert was amazingly overwhelming with thoughts and emotions.

Multiple Grammy Award-winning musical collective Snarky Puppy return to the UK!

A fusion of all things jazz funk and soul, Snarky Puppy are a live music juggernaut the likes of which has never been experienced before. Though unconventional in many ways: their dynamic line-up, their blend of music, as well as their free-flowing concerts being more than just a gig; Snarky Puppy’s rise has been an organic, word-of-mouth spread phenomenon that has seen them morph into an ever-evolving and embryonic entity.

The 2022 run of October dates will mark the first UK dates from the unique ensemble since they performed live in 2019 at the Royal Albert Hall; a performance they recorded and released as a live album (Snarky Puppy: Live At The Royal Albert Hall), winning them their most recent Grammy for last year’s Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.

The award follows on from their previous Grammy’s – Best R&B Performance in 2014, and Best Contemporary Instrumental Album in 2016 and 2017 – in what has been an incredible rise for a virtuoso, one-off group.

Snarky Puppy was formed by bassist and primary composer Michael League in 2003, starting inconspicuously enough as a group of college friends at the University of North Texas’ Jazz Studies program.

14 albums later, they have grown into a collective of sorts with as many as 25 members in regular rotation, with the sheer number of musicians making them a captivating live act. Many of the members have become successful solo artists in their own right.

At its core, Snarky Puppy represents the convergence of both black and white American music culture with various accents from around the world. Japan, Argentina, Canada, the United Kingdom all have representation in the group’s membership.

But more than the cultural diversity of the individual players, the defining characteristic of Snarky Puppy’s music is the joy of performing together in the perpetual push to grow creatively.

The four-time Grammy Award winners return with new ‘live in the studio’ album and are set to play one of their biggest shows ever, at Wembley Arena this October as part of a UK tour – see the video for new single ‘Trinity’ below

In early March Grammy-winning groove maestros Snarky Puppy headed back to where it all began to Dallas’ Deep Ellum Art Company, for eight nights, two shows per night to record their new album in the state’s "live music capital". The forthcoming album, Empire Central , is now set for release on 30 September and sees the group go back to their favoured ‘live in the studio’ approach with an audience in the room, which characterised their breakthrough albums such as 2012’s Ground Up and 2014’s We Like It Here . This will be the band's first new album since their triumphant, Grammy Award winning, Live At The Royal Albert Hall, which was recorded in front of a sold-out 5,000 capacity crowd at the iconic London venue in November 2019. The music is heavily influenced by and pays homage to the city that gave birth to the group after they formed while studying in the fabled jazz program at the University of North Texas. The record also features the last recorded performance of ’80s funk pioneer and Snarky Puppy’s musical Godfather Bernard Wright , who passed away tragically at age 58 shortly after the Empire Central recording sessions.

With a line-up consisting of three guitarists, four keyboardists, two brass, two reeds, a violinist, multiple percussionists and drummers and bandleader Michael League on bass, Empire Central expands upon the collective’s wide array of influences including blues, hard rock, classic soul, modern gospel, funk, new tech, fusion and jazz. In reviewing the first of the band’s eight Deep Ellum performances from which the record was culled, the Dallas Morning News r aves that “in classic Snarky Puppy fashion, the new tunes zigzagged with laser precision between jazz, funk and wigged-out prog-rock.”

“Snarky Puppy has always been a band that prioritizes the sound of the music,” notes bassist League. “On this record there was some collaboration in the writing process but when a song goes to the band and the players start making suggestions or changing things our collective feeling really comes through. The songs ended up being a lot more direct and funkier than those on our previous records. I think it reflects the many moods of the city’s scene.”

The band will also arrive on UK shores this month to play a set at the prestigious Glastonbury Festival , after which they will embark on an extensive European tour, before returning in October to play four concerts including their biggest UK date ever, which will conclude at one the capital’s most storied live spaces, the OVO Arena Wembley (as it’s now known!); a seismic achievement for a primarily instrumental band.

Genre-defying outfit release new video for Bad Kids To The Back...

Three-time Grammy winners Snarky Puppy have announced UK live dates for September, including a night at London's prestigious Royal Albert Hall. The band have also released a new promo video for new song Bad Kids At The Back , which you can watch below.

“The band is so excited about bringing 11 new songs to the UK on our upcoming tour," band leader Michael League told Prog . "Of course we'll be mixing them in with material from previous albums (including some very old songs we haven't played in years), but it will be really special sharing the new ones with the audience who first welcomed us to Europe in 2012.”

Bad Kids At The Back is taken from the band's forthcoming new album Immigrance , which will be released in March . The video was inspired by films like Richard Linklater’s Waking Life , Ralph Bakshi’s American Pop and Disney’s 1937 classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs , and utilises rotoscoped visuals to turn an in-studio performance into one of the wildest animated videos you will see this year.

The once Texan, now New York-based quasi-collective Snarky Puppy has gone from the best-kept secret to one of the most respected names in instrumental music.
