Paramount+ has set the premiere date for its second “South Park” special, which will wrap up the events from its first special, titled “Post Covid,” which debuted on Thanksgiving.

In the brief trailer above, an adult Stan, Kyle and Cartman travel back in time to try and prevent not only the death of their friend Kenny, but the COVID pandemic itself.

The special, “South Park: Post Covid: The Return of Covid,” will premiere on Dec. 16.

Here is the logline for “The Return of Covid”:

If Stan, Kyle and Cartman could just work together, they could go back in time to make sure Covid never happened and save Kenny’s life. In ‘South Park: Post Covid: The Return of Covid,’ traveling back to the past seems to be the easy answer until they meet Victor Chaos.

“Post Covid” took place well into the future, featuring grown up versions of Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny in a world that was still living in the pandemic. Cartman was a reformed orthodox Jewish rabbi and Kenny a world-renowned scientist whose death sets in motion the events of the special. After it’s revealed that Kenny died from a new variant of Covid, the town of South Park goes back into lockdown, though a (very) old Randy Marsh and his now defunct Tegridy Weed business may hold the clue to stopping the pandemic.

“South Park” was renewed through Season 30 at Comedy Central, and 14 original movies based on the show have been ordered at Paramount+ as part of a six-year megdeal signed by co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. New episodes of the show will still air first on Comedy Central.

Parker and Stone’s new pact with ViacomCBS’ MTV Entertainment Studios extends their partnership through 2027 and is worth $900 million .

South Park: Post Covid - Where All the Main Characters End Up

Let's dissect the end of South Park: Post Covid: The Return of Covid to see how things ended for the main characters after a time-travel extravaganza.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for South Park: Post Covid: The Return of Covid , now streaming on Paramount+.

In South Park: Post Covid: The Return of Covid , adult versions of Stan and Kyle made a crucial decision to travel back in time to stop the pandemic . Shockingly, a redeemed Cartman returned too, and his heroic actions helped Randy create a new strain of weed to bring about compassion, empathy and understanding between both sides of the vaccine debate. However, that altered the future they came from, so let's break down how things ended for the main characters.

Kyle Had Cute Kids

Kyle didn't have the most fulfilling life in the previous future, not to mention he was pissed Cartman had the perfect life. But in the altered future, Kyle is seen with two kids at a diner celebrating Christmas. We never find out who his wife is, although fans are speculating he might have wedded Yentl, the woman Cartman married in the alternate timeline.

Ike Makes A Shocking Return

Ike, Kyle's adopted Canadian brother, was seen in this second part of the special trying to get back from Canada to the U.S. Surprisingly, he had his Canadian accent and filled all the stereotypes the show made fun of for years. He couldn't return, though, as South Park was locked down, but the dinner party in the new timeline had him bringing gifts and reuniting with Kyle, their brotherhood filled with love and peace.

Stan Got His Family Back

In the first timeline, Stan grew disenchanted with the pandemic and his decision to burn down the weed farm led to the deaths of his sister, Shelly, and mom, Sharon. Thankfully, he got a happy ending too, returning home from Space Force's Mars trip and being greeted by the women. Shelly even called him a "turd," honoring their sibling rivalry. Stan played with Kyle's kids, and laughed with Randy, as they remained close in this timeline. He also strikes up a romance with Wendy, his high-school sweetheart.

Jimmy Became A Rude Comic

In the first timeline, Jimmy got his own late night TV show, but rather than offensive jokes, he told PC jokes and made people more woke. He was all about equality and anti-discrimination, but in the new timeline, Jimmy is a lot more rude. He's on TV still, per his high-school comedian dream, but he's telling filthier jokes, suggesting a healed world brought out the nastier side of his humor.

Butters & Kenny Got Reunited

Kenny's death sparked the time-travel saga in the first timeline, as he was trying to stop the pandemic so the guys wouldn't be torn apart. Butters got him rich off NFTs , which is why Kenny had the time machine that Kyle and Stan would later use. With the town healed, we see Kenny didn't die, as he had no reason to risk his health via the time machine. He's at the Christmas party chilling, with Butters as a waiter.

Timmy Got His Glory Moment

We also see Token, an investigator trying to help Stan and Kyle with their time trip, as well as Tweak and Craig, all enjoying the festivities. PC Principal was there too, drinking and enjoying life. But the episode was capped with Timmy making the toast. He was no longer in a wheelchair, but using a crutch, speaking full sentences and hearing him made for one of the most sentimental moments ever.

Cartman Got Screwed Over

Cartman, though, remained bitter as the town healed. Had the pandemic gone awry, he'd have found religion and Yentl, but seeing as everyone was happy, he just lived his life as a total hater. The final scene had him as a drunk, homeless person out in the snow, with Stan and Kyle feeling sorry for him. Ironically, Butters closed the shutters and cussed out Cartman for wanting to ruin their holiday cheer. They didn't realize he killed Clyde in the past and saved them all, which painted a quite tragic ending .

We should have known it would all come down to a fart.

South Park officially wrapped its Post COVID saga on Thursday with The Return of COVID , a one-hour followup to the futuristic feast Paramount+ served us this past Thanksgiving.

Before resuming the story at hand, we’re treated to a flashback of a seemingly average day at South Park Elementary School. Cartman is thrilled to announce that he took a picture of Heather Williams farting during gym class, one they can use as blackmail to score Denver Nuggets tickets from Heather’s well-connected mom. But before Cartman has a chance to confront her, the school announces a two-week shutdown, allowing the fart to remain unexposed.

Then the misery of quarantine sets in. Stan’s parents start fighting, he’s depressed all the time, he accidentally burns Shelly alive, his mother kills herself — the whole nine yards. The memories still haunt Stan’s nightmares as an adult, especially now that he’s found himself in a second quarantine; due to the recent discovery of the McCormickron strain, no one is allowed to enter or leave South Park for 20–30 years.

Gaining access to Kenny’s time travel technology requires a vocal scan from his apparent associate “Victor Chaus,” whom Stan and Kyle discover to be Butters when they reunite at South Park Mental Asylum Plus. (Side note: The Chaus/Chaos reveal at the end of Post COVID really was just the best, wasn’t it?)

South Park Butters Future

Meanwhile, Cartman has formed a modest rebellion determined to prevent Kyle from traveling back in time. Convinced Kyle is solely out to destroy his family and prevent him from ever meeting his beloved Yentl, he hides them in the church attic. (The fact that his daughter starts keeping a diary about Kyle’s injustice feels like low-hanging fruit, even for South Park .) When Cartman catches wind that his enemies are working with Butters, he seizes the opportunity to shut their operation down from the inside and steal the equipment for himself. The recruitment process includes a moment where Butters accidentally pees all over Cartman in the bathroom, which barely missed the cut-off for our annual Scenes We Wish We Could Unsee list.

This is where Cartman’s messaging suddenly changes. Instead of stopping Kyle from going back in time, he convinces Clyde to go back in time and kill Kyle in the past. He trusts Clyde to carry out this mission because, as an anti-vaxxer, Clyde has proven that he’s willing to stand by his beliefs even if it means other people will die. Cartman’s family, on the other hand, doesn’t support this violent plan. They believe that reuniting with Kyle has brought out the worst in Cartman, and she has faith that they will still find each other in a different timeline. Honestly, it’s kind of beautiful.

But because Cartman’s baby is chaos in its purest form, he pulls the lever and sends Clyde back in time before Cartman tells him about the change of plans. So Cartman, Kyle and Stan also have to go back to stop Clyde from killing Kyle. It’s a whole thing, one that ends with Cartman blowing Clyde’s brains out and dropping him off a bridge.

And yet… nothing changes. As the guys begin to face the possibility that they’re now stuck in the past as adults, they individually admit that they screwed up. Because Randy will always make love to that pangolin in every conceivable timeline, it’s impossible to prevent COVID from happening. What they were able to control, however, was their reaction to the pandemic. They were scared, confused and didn’t know what to believe, so they all took different paths — and they need to start cutting each other some slack.

Craving one single “precedented time,” the three grown men pay a visit to young Heather Williams, showing her the picture Cartman took of her farting in gym class. And just like that, their younger selves are being flown off to a Denver Nuggets game in Heather’s mom’s company helicopter. Future Stan makes one more change, sending a tegridy bud back to Randy which produces a strain potent enough to get Randy to apologize to Sharon for how he acted in the pandemic. He gives the weed out for free to everyone in town, and relationships are magically mended to the tune of Kelly Clarkson’s “I Forgive You.” But most importantly, there are no more Space Jam s.

South Park Cartman Homeless

“Poor Cartman. It’s so sad, he never did anything with his life,” Kyle and Stan lament as a drunk, destitute Cartman curses at them from across the street. But not even Butters has any sympathy left. “Come on, fellas, we can’t spend another holiday feeling bad for Eric,” he says. “There’s nothing that could have changed the path he was on.”

Uh… so much for Yentl, we guess.

I had to give the episode and F rating. As much as I love seeing all the characters as adults , the small hint of i’Victor Chaus really spelled ‘Choas’at the end of episode 1 (which you knew was going to be butters) ,and most importantly seeing Ike Brovlofski as an adult became a distant memory once the ‘scene’ was shown. it wasnt emotional , Its was horrible…Very Dark for Trey and Matt in my opinion. And it wasnt just the events that transpired for Cartman in the end , But the fact no one , And I mean ‘NO ONE’ had a single ounce of sympathy for him. I love South Park and have probably watched every episode of every season including bigger longer uncut and Imaginationland 100 times each over. But I will never watch the post covid the return of covid episode ever again it was by far for me one of the saddest things I’ve ever watched on TV nausea and I just feel that any character on any show no matter what they do and how they are during all the episodes should have the type of ending Cartman did in the Post Covid 2 part series.. Cant wait for the new season to start, and get back to what weve come to love in South Park and make ‘Post Covid-The Return of Covid” a distant ,forgotten, thing of the past… “Screw you guys…..I’m going home!”

Seriously? Cartman is the worst type of human imaginable. He tried to create another Holocaust, he killed another kid’s parents and fed them to him. He has done the most despicable things imaginable to everyone around him, and you expect that anyone is going to feel sympathy for him?

Yes, that’s true. But we see him break away from who he was and not only fix himself, but build a living family and live well. As messed up as Cartman was, he was just a kid. Isn’t him growing out of it and becoming a good person what we are supposed to want?

Maybe it’s because I have a family off my own now, but it bothers me because he loved his family, and his family loved him. And he did the right thing, he saved Kyle, he fixed the boys friendship, and set South Park free by getting rid of Clyde.

And what was his reward? He lost everything he cared about, everything he built, and everything he loved.

Who relishes on something like that? Not me that’s for sure. He redeemed himself, and deserved better.

Here here on that. I mean they really lost the great potential of a romeo and juliet spoof with Kyle’s son (who is apparently Dylan Robert Broflovski) and Cartman’s Daughter(Menorah Cartman). I mean just picture the potential content!

I mean the general cringe for Kyle could be doubled with a reformed Cartman.

Agreed. Cartman deserves better since he was ready to sacrifice his family to save Kyle. And ended up a bum. That’s completely unfair!

Cartman got what he deserved. Even with a family, he was still a swearing minister and, rather than just stopping Kyle, still wanted to kill him. How much compassion could he have when he was still being selfish, wanting the whole world to change just for his own sake (albeit for a family, but still selfish). Also – look at how he taught his kids! The little one wouldn’t have been saying “F-U Kyle” had Cartman not said it somewhere. Forgiveness brought them all back together and they all had equal opportunity…I just wonder if there are more episodes leading up to that point, which may be an indicative of things to come which show just how much worse his behavior got.

Yeah, but in the end Cartman still did the right thing. His swearing and murderous intent was for the love of his family and fear of losing them. Once he realized that saving them that way would be worse than not, he relented and sacrificed himself for everyone else’s sins.

Cartman gave his friends aids. Sexually abused butters. Sexual Harassed the girls in his class. Murdered a kids parents and then had him eat them in a chilli cookoff. Reformed a NAZI hate party. Is a bigot and a racist He would be little and abuse his own mother to get what he wanted. Flooded an entire town after crushing a dam. Murdered an entire sea of hippies. The dude has done a lot of horrible things and deserved what came to him.

Even in the future he was happy he was still controlling and manipulative and had no problem or seeing issues with murder.

Perfectly said!

Not an F but still they did Cartman wrong. Not sure what they were thinking but it wasn’t funny, it made an otherwise great ep into trash.

Exactly how I feel , you said it all for me.it was a great episode until I seen Cartman at the end laid out on the street. Yes Cartman was always the asshole but they could of did bro better than that

No, it didn’t make it into trash. It made it into reflective pathos, and a bittersweet but realistic ending. I feel sorry for Cartman, who did reform his life, but had to sacrifice it all for everyone else.

I fully agree. Cartman was indeed a bad character, especially feeding someone dead parents to someone is unforgivable. But also remember a big plot of how the kids got away with so much on the show is that they were only 8 years old. Cartman had a whole life to become a new person and redeem himself. Sure you can take that argument and say that is just it, that he could have improved himself, but instead became homeless drunk on his own accord. However the fact that he showed compassion in the kovid timeline along with having a loving wife and kids, they should have given him a better ending than this. The mentality may have been that only in the worst of times could cartman get a good ending for himself, which indeed can be seen a bit clever. But being clever does not always equal realistic. Overall feels like the happy-go-lucky ending, where puritans get blessed, and those who did bad early in life have to pay for it for eternity and cannot seek redemption.

Loved it!!!! Thought it was hilarious. Giving it an A+++. And funniest ending ever. That final Cartman scene had me laughing for 10 minutes straight. Everyone is throwing a childish fit about what they did to Cartman, but this is a comedy. It’s supposed to make you laugh, and it made me laugh. And Cartman isn’t supposed to have a happy ending. He’s a terrible character. And that’s why he is so funny. Because the character is just so absurd. Love South Park.

Yes, the ending was dark but that’s what I loved about it: We had this Hollywood style happy ending and then at the last moment, we see the true hero of the thing, the man who went through redemption, down and out and nobody feels sorry for him. It’s tragedy become farce. I laughed my head off because a mushy ending for me, feels out of place somewhat with South Park.

Not only that, but T&P didn’t do Hot-Tub-Time-Machine and use the time travel to further enrich themselves. It would have been easy to drop a few stock tips or suggestion to buy all the Bitcoin they can, but they held out of that and minimized it.

I like European style complex endings, not simple minded spoon fed tripe. I liked this ending just like I enjoyed the ending of The Sopranos.

wow…umm, ok. 1. Not everyone saw the butters thing “chaos” thing. So, not, Not “everyone” saw victor chaos as butters. That is called an absolute and all absolutes are automatically false.

2. I guess you are new to South Park if you think this post covid episode was dark. I get it, it’s sad to what happened to Stan’s family, but literally everyone else led a decent life, kyle was just single. Wendy turned out amazing and everyone else was fine and healthy. Kenny turned into a super scientist. There are literally way darker episodes in the show than this.

3. Literally almost everyone had sympathy for Cartman . The fact that you cannot detach a small child from an adult is your problem, but you are likely to be the kind of person who cannot let go of high school or Jr. High School like some people I know of in real life. 8 year old children are not their 40 year old selves. He wasn’t ripping on Kyle he legitimately changed, he legitimately loved his family and he legitimately tried to save them, but sacrificed them for the sake of everyone else. That deserves some sympathy.

It’s a cartoon. Jesus man, grow up.

[COMMENT REMOVED BY MODERATOR]

You obviously didn’t grow up in a small town. If you had, you’d understand what happened.

The ending was amazing! I love it when bad stuff happens to Cartman on South Park. Seeing him as a homeless drunk was amazing!

You don’t feel bad for his legitimate family of 18 years that got Thanos’d out of existence?

It’s just a cartoon, dude. It isn’t real. And that ending was hilarious. I laughed for 10 minutes straight. I’m still laughing. Funniest ending ever.

I see, some people jus hate Cartman in reality, even if it is just a cartoon, people like steve feels belitteld by a 9 year old comedy cartoon… And gets his happiness from his disgrace… Patetic. The “Thanos´d out” of hir family, after a deep change of caracter, is just too much. Laugh of this show how depressed one must be.

Dude, there’s something wrong with you. I’m belittled by a cartoon? Are you out of your f…ing mind??? You need therapy. (And some people hate Cartman in reality???? IT’S A COMEDY CARTOON. IT’S NOT REALITY. IT’S NOT TRYING TO BE. CARTMAN’S NOT REAL!!!! There, I typed in all caps so that your little mind could comprehend it. Now go call a therapist. I hope you get better.)

and nothing about TIMMY standing at the end of the episode?

That’s what I really wanted to know. How did they “cure” Timmy’s MR and make him able to walk?

Whaaaatttt I totally missed that!! Gotta go rewatch it lol thx for the heads up!

I fell sad for Cartman, I know he was a very bad kid, but he outgrow that. He sacrifice his family for better future.. However it was successful but not for Cartman….

That was pretty great. He looked like Stephen Hawking standing with a cane did before he was wheelchair-bound. I’m thinking stem cell research took off in the future.

I feel That they felled Cartman even though he is a bad person he has so much potential that they could’ve done much more with him I feel like his life should’ve been hell but then again I feel like how the way Cartman’s character is explained is very intelligent and he gives people to do what he wants by manipulating them I just felt like they could’ve been a hell of a lot more with him then just causing him to be a homeless drunk . I could’ve seen him being a cop with no wife having a lousy life being even more obese just Saying.

People feel bad for Cartman? A kid who had his rival’s parents killed and then fed the dead parents to the kid. A kid who used The Passion of the Christ to try and start a new movement to exterminate Jewish people. Wow. Alrighty then.

Key word here is “kid”. You literally can’t blame an adult for a single thing they did as a child; to do so is generally considered pretty unfair.

Perfect. Only depressed people with a “lesser caracter” can really take offense by Cartman’s doings as a kid, and laugh of his disgrace..

Cartman had it coming. Stop whining.

few questions. what happened to clyde in the ending future? didnt see him.

what happened to the other timelines? did they get wiped?

if not, did the trio get stuck in the past, died, existing along with their young versions?

I think the true meaning behind why cartman turn out the way he did at the end is when they stick together cartman will always be the hateful little abuser as long as he is friends with Kyle because he has a very complicated love, hate relationship with him he like having him around to pick on but deep down he hate kyle because he is a racist which led him to that ending.

I think you were on to something but its not that Cartman is racist but that he loves and wants to be Jewish…or loves Kyle. Thats why he married a Jewish woman and became a rabbi when he lost his relationship with Kyle,

It’s extremely dark that people are so eager to doom a fictional character to homelessness because of bad decisions he made at eight years old, especially when it’s been shown to us that he’s capable of spending the majority of his life as an upstanding citizen.

Absolutely. Cartman is the whole reason South Park is still on the air. This 2 part episode was an extreme disappointment. Yes, he is despicable, but that is the charm with the edge of South Park. I feel like this “special” was just pandering to the masses, and lost their edge. And acting like that Clyde didn’t get his “vaccine” (which is BS)was the cause of their future situation, pandering to politics. I thought South Park was above that, but I guess the writers succumbed to pressure. Matt and Trey sold out. Disappointing.

They didn’t lose their edge, you just don’t like that they’re pointing out people like Clyde ARE ruining everything for everyone by extending the pandemic out of selfishness.

Its actually a 3 parter. Because i remember that episode. We know the USA is trying to manufacture the virus in different forms. Most likely to make a medicine for people to take to profit off. Lets be clear.

If it was still a problem. Why do you no longer hear about people in hospitals? Also i am from Texas. We don’t do any mask or distance garbage. An no one is sick. So we know its all manufactured lies.

So someone is going around saying. An You have Covid. And YOU have Covid and YOU have covid! Lying like they said you had aids and like they said you had cancer but anyone taking mega doses of Vitamin C are immunized from any virus. This is now about conformity.

You are being told you cant go anywhere without us Tampering with your body. Take our mark or you cant buy or sell or travel. An don’t think Trumps going to save you. So this needs to come to an end. Protest wont work. You just need to let business know with your dollar.

They will collapse and say OK FINE give us what little money you have. Speak with your wallets and do not take the vaccines. They do nothing but damage your DNA.

It is a 3 parter; the prequel was when Marsh and Mickey went to China to make it with a bat and a pangolin.

Pretty funny how the ending turned out. Remember folks the future isn’t set in stone – it’s what’s done now that affect it.

It is interesting to see that Kyle is doin well and has two kids. Strangely I think Kyle may have hooked up w/ Yentl. Thought it was a good episode overall and gave me a good amount to think – Covid and all it entailed was a bummer.

Everyone- I’m sorry whatever you went through these past few years. It hasn’t been much fun or easy. I’m sorry. We were all kinds of wound-up, huh?

I hated what they did to Cartman at the end. Sometimes I just don’t like the way the Cartman character is written into a villain. Probably my least favourite episode of all time is “Tsst” when Cartman is trained by Cesar Milan, because at the end it’s his Mother that turns into a monster again. I know it’s just a show, but it’s kind of sad. For the last few years, I’ve stopped following South Park as closely because I’m tired of being disappointed by how the Cartman and Butters characters are written. A little too crude…if there is such a thing with South Park

I wish they could have given eric a better ending

I think everyone missed the point. Cartman sacrificed himself, and his family, for everyone. It didn’t seem like anyone was happy in the future BUT him. The irony was that he couldn’t receive (didn’t deserve?) the forgiveness that allowed everyone to heal to get to the better future. I loved how Kyle was Cartman’s trigger – and we saw a tiny bit of this during the end of serialization season, where he was a sweet, quiet, timid, caring person when he was cut off from everyone.

The lesson? Don’t be afraid to leave to chase your dreams, but always remember where home is. And avoid Alexa.

I thought it was freaking brilliant. The Cartman twist at the ending was just genius. Love, love, loved it. [Thought comments were monitored, BTW. If so, why is there a guy on here blasting COVID misinfo?]

You know people can actually be homeless. I work with two people that were at one point. One for 6 days one for 5 weeks. And the guy that used to live nextdoor to my 2nd cousin. 2 and 1/2 months. So I know what it like. Considering this all happened during different winters. I know know like many people we just pretend it not real but it’s. And there a shot that somewhere between you and you 3rd cousin One of you know someone that was.

Enjoyed every second of it, but they could’ve done something better for Cartman. Something less… harsh. Make him a miserable man married to a redhead, have him married to Yentl but they’re childless and hate each other. Easily could’ve gone ironic twist over bottom of the barrel. And besides, if Cartman is homeless… will he jump himself on his skateboard?

In the future, a grown Stan recalls the bleak days of the pandemic, including the deaths of his mother and sister. But with a new variant on the horizon, he says “the whole pandemic has started all over again.”

Kyle and Stan continue their efforts to wind the clock back to avoid the chaos of the long-lasting pandemic, which leads them to a supposed madman named Victor “Chous” Chaos, who’s really just Butters. An asylum doctor explains that Butters became an NFT-obsessed maniac after he was locked in his room for 16 years, following the initial pandemic lockdowns. As it turns out, Butters was one of Kenny’s lead investors before his fateful death. But instead of hoping to help his friends stop the pandemic, Butters seeks to chaotically and violently spread the word of the non-fungible tokens.

Butters escapes the asylum and runs into now-rabbi Eric Cartman, who’s creating an anti-time travel committee to stop Kyle and Stan from altering the timeline.

Meanwhile at the school, Wendy’s working to secure more power and resources from the government, who was willing to provide…until they learned that Clyde was unvaccinated. Shunned by Wendy and the rest of the crew, Clyde joins Cartman’s forces.

Kyle and Stan are disheartened in their search for Victor/Butters but get a call from an excited Wendy, only to hear her excitement about NFTs, meaning that Butters and Cartman have gotten to the school. The two snatch all the essential tech and Randy’s weed, now with the intention to travel back in time and kill Kyle.

The final showdown happens at the church were Cartman, Butters and Clyde get ready for their jump back in time. Kyle and Stan encounter Butters and use their just-as-talkative humanoid Amazon Alexas to fight nonsense tech-talk fire with fire. Cartman and Kyle engage in a fist-fight, but things slow down when the former’s wife asks him to reconsider. Convinced by his family, Cartman calls off the operation – but it’s too late.

“F**k you, Uncle Kyle,” his baby blurts out before pulling the time machine lever, which sends a determined Clyde back to 2020.

Clyde lands back in South Park amid mask-wearers and makes a beeline to his home, where he encounters his young self and grabs his father’s gun. Before leaving he imparts some questionable wisdom until young Clyde.

“Never get vaccinated,” he says.

Before Clyde can pull the trigger on a young Kyle, the future Stan and Kyle pull up, threatening to inject him with 100cc of the Covid-19 vaccine. Also entering the scene from the future is Cartman, who puts multiple shots through Clyde and pushes him over a bridge. After the damage is done, Kyle, Stan and Cartman reflect on how it’s impossible to stop the pandemic from ever happening. They instead realize how their reactions to global crisis can be the factor of change that keeps South Park from evolving into a dark dystopia.

To end the boys’ bickering, their future selves make good on blackmailing Heather Williams. Later, a helicopter descends to pick up young Stan, Kyle and the rest of the gang for the basketball game. Randy receives a special strain of his Tegridy weed, which inspires him to spread the mellow-ness and help other South Park residents relax amid the pandemic.

The special ends with a holiday party were Kyle, Stan, Randy, Butters and more reunite and celebrate getting past the global pandemic. Missing out on the festivities is a resentful and homeless Cartman, who’s on the outside looking in, literally.

Cartman, whose future looks bleak in relation to those of other characters, has South Park fans voicing their support or disdain for the series’ mainstay.

“Cartman deserved so much better,” one Twitter user wrote.

“I really don’t feel bad for Cartman,” said another. “Sorry not sorry.”

‘South Park': Stan, Kyle and Cartman Travel Back in Time to Prevent the Pandemic in Second Paramount+ Special (Video)

Fourth Grade

 • View history

"Fourth Grade" is the eleventh episode of Season Four , and the 59th overall episode of South Park . It aired on November 8, 2000. [1]

Synopsis [ ]

The boys devise a plan to travel back in time a full year and return to the third grade, with the help of Timmy and his electronic wheelchair. [1]

This episode marked the boys' move into the fourth grade. Not knowing their new teacher (aside from the fact that it's a woman from Denver ), the boys plan to exert dominance over the teacher. Before the beginning of class, Stan comes up with an idea: at 8:35 am, everyone jumps up on their desks, pull down their pants, and shout, "Kiss my ass!" After meeting their new teacher, Ms. Choksondik, she explains that fourth grade will be different and the children are all very frightened. Cartman alone stands up and pulls down his pants, very annoyed no one else followed the plan. Ms. Choksondik is depicted as a middle-aged woman with disgustingly saggy, pendulous breasts that she neither notices nor is ashamed of. In an ironic twist, none of the children notice her obscene-sounding name (which is pronounced like "chokes on dick"); instead, they come up with their own insulting nicknames (such as "makes me sick"). Cartman eventually makes the children realize that they took the ease of the 3rd grade for granted and do not want to go through a whole year in 4th grade. They seek help from two scientific Trekkies and ask them to create a time machine so they can return to the 3rd grade. The Star Trek nerds then construct the device using Timmy's wheelchair.

Meanwhile, it is revealed that the teachers do not like Ms. Choksondik any more than the students do, especially as when she lifts her arms up, a small section of her breasts come into view, which Chef finds freaky. Ms. Choksondik reports to Principal Victoria , Mr. Mackey , and Chef that she is unable to teach the children in her class and attempts to speak to Mr. Garrison (who was fired after " Cartman Joins NAMBLA " after he was accused of trying to solicit sex from Cartman), but she is unable to get any information. The next day in class, the children begin their plan of traveling back to 3rd grade. However, the plan backfires and instead of creating a portal back in time, Timmy is driven through the classroom wall in his uncontrollable wheelchair. He is unable to stop the wheelchair as it would explode if he slows down or if he gets off (a reference to the film Speed ), because of the materials used to convert it to a "time-travel" device. Kenny is dragged to death in an attempt to disarm the device, after which Stan replies "Well who didn't see that coming?" (this is one of the few episodes were Kenny's death gag is referenced by one of the characters). Eventually, a portal does open and Timmy is thrown into the pre-historic past.

Ms. Choksondik goes on a journey to find Mr. Garrison in order to learn how he dealt with the class, who has gone into a self-imposed exile in the mountains after his romance novel won the Gay Pulitzer Prize award. Mr. Garrison agrees to help her and shows her how he does it. Eventually, he then comes to the realization that he needs to admit and confront his "gay side" (in a parody of Luke Skywalker confronting his dark-side in The Empire Strikes Back ). The children try to convince the two Star Trek geeks to build another time machine but they refuse to work together because of a disagreement over how many original Star Trek episodes were made.

In the end, Ms. Choksondik uses Garrison's methods to gain the class' attention, explaining how pointless it is to go back in time to relive the good moments as there many new challenges to face within life. Realizing that Ms. Choksondik is right, they also realize that 3rd-grade was never as great as they remembered it to be, and get mad at Cartman for making them think 3rd-grade was so great. They decided to accept the 4th grade as it should be, much to Ms. Choksondik's relief. Timmy comes back with "souvenirs" from the eras he had visited. Mr. Garrison openly admits his homosexuality to Principal Victoria, Chef, and Mr. Mackey, and asks for his job back. They reply with "I'm sorry, we don't hire gay people," and laugh derisively.

Kendrick Lamar

“South Park” co-creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are teaming with Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free on a new live-action comedy that will hit theaters just in time for our nation’s birthday.

Popular on Variety

The live-action comedy was written by Vernon Chatman. The studio didn’t share any details about what the film is about beyond the involvement of its top-shelf talent.

Lamar and PGLang partner Free will produce the project alongside Stone and Parker. The duo launched their company in 2020. Lamar has created such chart-topping hits as “Swimming Pools (Drank),” “Poetic Justice” and “The Blacker the Berry.” He also curated the soundtrack album for “Black Panther.”

In addition to the long-running “South Park” television show, Stone and Parker also created 1999’s feature “South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut” and the 2004 feature-length film “Team America: World Police.” They also worked with Robert Lopez to create the nine-time Tony Award-winning Broadway musical “Book of Mormon.”

I’ve Lived In The South All My Life—And These Are The 10 Most Underrated Destinations

south park time travel

Brown W. Cannon III

There are some Southern places that everyone knows: Charleston , New Orleans , Savannah . We know them. We love them. We’ve either been before or have added them to our travel bucket lists. But outside of those heavy hitters, the South is home to thousands of destinations that get far less attention but are worthy of our time all the same. From lesser-known national parks to small towns with surprisingly impressive attractions, these hidden gem destinations run the gamut, offering something to pique the interest of all kinds of travelers. If you’re a seasoned Southern traveler looking for somewhere new to explore, these underrated destinations are a great place to find inspiration for your next trip. Check out these 10 spots and let us know your favorite undiscovered places in the South .

Mammoth Cave National Park

Between Yellowstone and Yosemite (and dozens of other parks in between), the West is known for being home to the country’s most mind-blowing national parks. And while the South gets credit for having the most-visited park in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, many people overlook our region’s other parks. Located in south-central Kentucky, Mammoth Cave National Park’s limestone formations and underground passageways make up a 400-mile-long system that showcase Earth's evolutionary stages and is the longest known cave system on the planet. Explore its mysterious tunnels on one of the park’s many guided cave tours that range from a wheelchair accessible tour to one that requires crawling. You can even see the cave by lantern.

Crystal River, Florida

For anyone who’s ever dreamt of swimming with dolphins only to be disappointed by a commercialized experience at a theme park or zoo, Crystal River is a must visit. The small town on the western coast of Florida (located 80 miles north of Tampa) is one of the only places in the U.S. where you can swim with manatees in the wild. Every winter, around 800 manatees seek refuge in the warm waters of Crystal River’s Kings Bay and its 70 natural springs. From November to March, visitors and locals suit up and take the chilly plunge to spend face-to-face time with these gentle giants. Dozens of outfitters are on standby to help you have this once-in-a-lifetime, talk-about-forever experience.

Coastal Mississippi

If Florida’s coast is the height of desire for beach vacations (with coastal destinations in the Carolinas, Alabama, and Georgia following somewhere behind), then Mississippi’s coast might be even more of a distant thought. But for those in on the secret, places like Ocean Springs, Gulfport, and Bay St. Louis are hardly second fiddles. With 62 miles of scenic coastline, there’s plenty of room to spread out in the sand. But that’s far from all Coastal Mississippi has to offer. Each of its town offers its own distinctive personality, from artsy, eclectic Ocean Springs to buzzy Gulfport .

Hot Springs National Park

Robbie Caponetto

Another under-the-radar national park, Hot Springs National Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas is one of those places you have to see (and feel) to believe. Nestled in the gorgeous Ouachita Mountains, the park is comprised of 47 natural springs, where steam rises from the earth as if by magic. Explore the park (and its historic bath houses), then stick around to see what else the town has to offer, from the 210-acre botanical paradise Garvan Woodland Gardens to three major lakes where you can enjoy watersports.

Harpers Ferry National Historical Park

This tiny town, national park, and historic site on the West Virginia-Maryland state line is a three-in-one combo that delivers on all fronts. You can get gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge Mountains on a scenic hike to the precipice of the Maryland Heights Overlook Trail. You can walk through the historic streets of Lower Town to see 19 th century architecture by way of Victorian homes and 150-year-old row buildings. Some are filled with new boutiques and restaurants, while others are living history museums that demonstrate what life was like in the 1800s. And you can do it all with a charming bed and breakfast as a cozy home base.

Fort Payne, Alabama

This small North Alabama town may not seem like much, but when you consider its incredibly high concentration of stunning natural attractions all located within one easy-to-navigate area, it’s a bit of a wonder more people haven’t caught on to its charms. DeSoto State Park , Little River Canyon National Preserve , and Little River Falls are just a few of its many outdoor-focused points of interest. In fact, Little River Canyon is known as the Grand Canyon of the East. We admit it’s not quite as magnificent as the one out west, but it sure is a lot easier to get to—and you won’t have to battle crowds to get the perfect picture.

Virginia Wine Country

When people think of American wine country, a few places immediately come to mind: Napa Valley, Sonoma County, maybe even Willamette Valley in Oregon. The South probably isn’t a first thought, but Virginia’s wine country absolutely should be. Virginia is recognized as the birthplace of American wine, since colonists attempted the craft in the early 17 th century. Today the state is home to more than 300 wineries spread largely across northern and central Virginia. The rolling hills and lush vineyards create a stunning backdrop for a tasting, and the wines more than hold their own. In 2023, Wine Enthusiast even named the Charlottesville area the Wine Region of the Year.

Black Mountain, North Carolina

Charming Blue Ridge Mountain towns are a dime a dozen in North Carolina. From Brevard to Boone to Blowing Rock, each community brings its own flair. And of course they all have gorgeous views and great opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Probably the area's most popular destination, Asheville gets thousands of visitors each year, but if you want to escape the crowds, head 20 minutes east to Black Mountain. This quaint town has all the makings of a great vacation destination—excellent local shopping, a diverse and delicious dining scene, a quaint downtown, affordable lodging, and easy access to hiking trails where you can bask in the glory of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Knoxville, Tennessee

Between big, flashy Broadway and a steady stream of country music star sightings, it’s no surprise that Nashville tends to steal the spotlight in Tennessee. But if you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle (and ever-increasing prices) of Nashville, consider heading east to check out Knoxville. With a population of just around 200,000, this college town strikes the perfect balance of having plenty to do while remaining manageable enough to tackle in a long weekend. Spend an afternoon strolling around downtown’s Market Square and enjoying the ample greenspace at World’s Fair Park. You’ll be singing the praises of Good Ole Rocky Top in no time.

Terlingua, Texas

When you’re in a state with major cultural hubs like Austin, Houston, and Dallas (and the state itself encompasses nearly 270 million square miles), it can be difficult to get noticed—especially when your entire population hovers right around 100 people. Despite its diminutive size, there are some big (quite literally) reasons to visit Terlingua. The biggest: Big Bend National Park . You can access the otherworldly national park just minutes from town. Take in the unexpected beauty of the Chisos Mountain springing from the Chihuahuan Desert, and don’t worry a drop about crowds. The park is the 8 th largest in the U.S. but sees fewer than half a million visitors per year, meaning you’ll have ample room to roam.

Lamar Valley is undoubtedly the best spot in Yellowstone to watch wildlife.

The grasslands that cover this valley, carved by glaciers and fed by the Lamar River, are easily accessible on Highway 212 and attract the park’s largest land species, such as the bison, elk, moose, and bears.

A lion pride can have anything from three to thirty members; the more, the better. These large cats are pretty friendly.

#5 Sabi Sands Park, South Africa

The Big Five, as well as additional animals . The Big Five are well-known in the Sabi Sands (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo, and Rhino). It was in the Sabi Sands when the Big Five concept was reborn as a classic safari term.

The Sabi Sand benefits from the wide diversity of species found in one of the most incredible wildlife locations on the African continent. It is mainly well known for leopard sightings, given there are no boundary walls between it and Kruger Park.

The Sabi Sand leopards, normally notoriously elusive, have become habituated to safari vehicles, allowing for close-up encounters and incredible photography opportunities.

#7 Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

Top 10 wildlife destinations: These 19 islands and the adjacent marine reserve, located 1,000 kilometers from the South American continent in the Pacific Ocean, have been dubbed a unique “living museum and showcase of evolution.”

The Galápagos Islands are a ‘melting pot’ of marine species because they are located at the confluence of three ocean currents. Seismic and volcanic activity are still active, reflecting the processes that created the islands.

Following his visit in 1835, these processes, together with the islands’ splendid isolation, led to the formation of peculiar animal life, including the land iguana, giant tortoise, and various finches, which inspired Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection.

On the more incredible coasts, penguins, Darwin’s finches, frigatebirds, albatrosses, gulls, boobies, pelicans, and Galápagos hawks are among the most notable.

#8 The Amazon Basin, Brazil

The Amazon rainforest is crucial in managing the global oxygen and carbon cycles. It produces about 6% of the world’s oxygen and has long been assumed to operate as a carbon sink, quickly absorbing enormous amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

The Amazon is home to sloths, black spider monkeys, and poison dart frogs, as well as one of Earth’s final refuges for jaguars, harpy eagles, and pink river dolphins.

It is home to one out of every ten known species, including 40,000 plant species, 3,000 freshwater fish species, and over 370 reptile species.

What is the Great Wildebeest Migration? The Great Wildebeest Migration is the largest animal migration in the world. Every year, more than 2 million animals (wildebeest, zebra, and gazelle) migrate in a clockwise direction across the ecosystems of the Serengeti (Tanzania) and the Masai Mara (Kenya). Some experts regard wildebeest to be a “keystone species.” As a result, the creatures have a significant impact on the habitats in which they reside. Large carnivores, particularly lions, prey on wildebeest. Wildebeest, in general, generate favorable conditions for other large mammals.

#9 Maasai Mara National Reserve

The Masai Mara National Reserve is located in the south-east of Kenya. The northern section of the Serengeti Ecosystem spans 25,000 square kilometers and comprises the National Serengeti Park and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, in addition to the Masai Mara in Kenya.

The Maasai Mara is one of Africa’s most well-known and vital wildlife conservation and wilderness areas, known for its remarkable lion, African leopard, cheetah, and African bush elephant populations.

The Maasai Mara is also Kenya’s isolated protected area with an indigenous black rhino population undisturbed by translocations. It can host one of Africa’s largest populations due to its size.
