Cozy Winter Home Tour with Farmhouse Decorating Ideas

Winter Home Tour - master bedroom and fireplace and bed

Sharing winter farmhouse decorating ideas with a winter home tour of our home to make your home brighter & cozier in the dark of winter with pictures.

Winter can be a dark & dreary time of year.

All the excitement of Christmas is over, the days are shorter & if you live anywhere north, it’s really cold.

When decorating our home for the winter I tried to make our home a place of warmth & simplicity or Hygge.

I hope my winter home tour gives you ideas of how to make your homes a little brighter & cozier in the winter months.

Cozy Winter Farmhouse Decor

One thing I love about the winter is how our life tends to slow down & become a little quieter.

More evenings are enjoyed at home together & the darker mornings mean kids sleep in a little longer… well, at least till 7 am. 🙂

Living Room – Winter Farmhouse Decor

After taking down the Christmas tree in our living room we decided not to bring our TV back into the room.

We wanted this room to be screen free, a place where we could have a conversation & enjoy a fire without the distraction of the TV in the background.

I want the only technology in this room to be that of music playing in the background.

We moved my secretary to the left of the fireplace where the TV had once been & moved the television down the basement .

Our living room feels more open & relaxing than it had been before.

Winter Coffee Table Decor

I brought down all my decorating & gardening book from my bookcase & placed them on or under our coffee table along with a wooden dough bowl with pine cones in it.

I just love the calm, quiet of the winter to dream about what we will plant in our garden or what big DIY & decorating plans we have for our farmhouse.

Winter Fireplace Mantel Decor

Our fireplace mantel is keep bright with white farmhouse decor & candles.

Winter conversations happen best when everyone is cozy & warm next to the warmth of the fire :).  To see more of our winter mantel, check that out here .

The nesting instinct I have throughout the winter doesn’t just stop with cozying up our winter home tour but also what we are eating when we are home.

Winter Home Tour in the Farmhouse Kitchen

I enjoying cooking, baking & eating 🙂 more so in the winter than any other time of year.

It seems that almost everyday, I have something baking in the oven or cooking on the stove.

Yesterday, I made my kids their favorite sugar cookies.

We had some trouble locating the snowflake cookie cutter so we settled on trees :).

Obviously, my cookie decorating skills need some help but the kids & I always have fun making & eating them.

Sugar cookies are the best because you can change out the shape based on the season or occasion.

White Flowers to Brighten Up our Winter Home Tour

To add a little more color and freshen up our kitchen I added 2 new plants to my kitchen window.

I love the bright white of the cyclamen flowers to echo the white of the snow that is often seen outside my kitchen window.

Farmhouse Entryway in our Winter Home Tour

Our entryway is often full of snow gear to help keep us warm when we go outside.

I love our old door turned coat rack & mitten tree to help dry off those wet snow clothes when my 4 kiddos come in.

Winter Farmhouse Master Bedroom

It is so much fun going up our newly refinished farmhouse stairs into our master bedroom .

In the winter, Jason & I tend to head upstairs early so that we have time to read or watch a movie together.

I recently brought up our oil lamps to help add a little more ambient light so one of us can go to sleep while the other ones stays up to read.

I really like the vintage farmhouse look they give our bedroom.

Farmhouse Family Room Winter Home Tour

When our family gets snowed in, one of our favorite things to do is play board games & watch movies together.

Our favorite board game to play is Ticket to Ride .

Even my youngest knows how to play.

Can you spot the furry nose in the above pic?  The popcorn was just too tempting for him :).

Ultimately, I try my best to decorate our farmhouse winter home tour with my family in mind.

My kids are growing up way too fast & it’s important to me to keep the decorating simple, bright, warm & comfortable so that we can spend more time together as a family.

I hope my winter home tour gives you lots of winter farmhouse decorating ideas & inspiration!

Simple Winter Home Tour & Easy Decorating Ideas for a Cozy Feel

Make your home feel cozy after christmas with these easy winter decorating ideas. i hope you find inspiration in this simple winter home tour.

This time of year is a great time to hunker down and get cozy! If you’re like me, this time every year I find myself craving simplicity and this year I definitely went with that feeling with our winter decor. I really tried to make it easier by keeping some of what I had out for Christmas for some vignettes in some areas like on the top of the armoire. I just tweaked it a bit.

Affiliate links have been provided for your convenience. See my full disclosure here .

The mantel, however, I gave a complete overhaul. I wanted to make it feel a bit more light and airy so I added some glass elements but included some texture with the basket, bobbins and spindles covered in twine. I also left some of the faux greens.

The art is a FREE Printable I shared in my last post, 7 Simple Budget Friendly After Christmas Decorating Ideas.

I had it printed at Staples for about $1.50 and added it to a thrift store frame. Easy Winter Decor!

In the great room, I changed out the pillows so bring in the winter whites and added the cozy blankets. I also added some texture and interest to the coffee table with the basket and, my favorite, books. 🙂

You can find the throw pillow covers on Etsy here .

I kept the mirror on the shelf and added some thrift store art. The amber bottles warm it up a bit.

I used the same picture that is on the mantel in a smaller size.

I left this bowl the same but changed out the green candles for white ones.

The basket on top of the cabinet was from Christmas, I just removed some of the things in front of it to simplify it. I  left the skates out in the corner and added a print I purchased on Etsy. You can find that Here.

I kept mostly the same decor in the family room with the greens and bottle brush trees, books and little white houses.

I tried to keep in light in here with just the green books and gold candlestick holders. The baskets add a nice contrast and texture. I also added another one of the prints from Etsy. Yes, I may be addicted but it really is such an inexpensive way to add to your decor for any season. 🙂

In the kitchen, I added these super easy DIY snow globes made with thrifted glass jars and Epsom salt. Easy DIY Winter decorations!

Winter Home Tour

Welcome to my first winter home tour !

Like many of you, I recently packed up the last box of Christmas decor. I must say, it felt amazing to have a clean, less cluttered home again.

As I started to decorate the spaces that now seemed empty, I realized I had a goal in the back of my mind…I wanted my home to look warm and welcoming. A winter white, layered look was my plan. That and candles, candles, and more candles!

I think I achieved both. So now, I’d love for you to take the tour . I have included all available sources for your convenience.

WINTER ENTRY HALL

Here, in our entry hall, framed intaglios , and a bench from our living room add a bit of warmth. I actually made this change last fall, just before my Christmas tour .

I love the intaglios here. They make such a beautiful statement.

This part of our home entrance is across from our living room. I kept it simple with winter whites, gold, and a battery operated string of lights . The wreath was here before and during the holidays.

WINTER LIVING ROOM

Our living room tends to get a lot of action in the winter. A few small changes gave it that warm and welcoming look I wanted.

cozy living room white gray beautiful doors chandelier

Cooler months call for layers of throw blankets and fluffy pillows. My white and gray throws are both super soft and favorites for this time of year. The white throw is oversized, which means it can hang over the sides on just about any size bed. For the winter months, I have it thrown over my sofa with plenty of length on the front and back side.

cozy white living room winter home decor light blue accents

I have extra pillows on our second sofa (on the right). We don’t use it as often, so I went for an extra cozy look. When in use, a few pillows stack neatly on the basket next to the sofa arm.

We use a tray  to hold our ottoman accessories. It’s simple to pick up and move when we want to put our feet up. You can learn how to layer your accessories here .

winter white icy blue coffee table decor tray blue round vase book

This orchid arrangement is suitable for any season, but I love the white orchids in our winter home. I made it in less than 5 minutes! If you’d like to make one for your home, here are the instructions .

white living room chairs light blue gray decor

A new blue lidded jar , which I purchased for my kitchen, ended up being perfect for this spot. It’s always a great idea to try to find multiple uses for the home items you buy!

coffee table tray decor round vase hydrangeas

You may remember our sweet puppy, Ava . It’s her birthday today! She is a rescue, so we actually have an estimated birthdate, but today is the day we celebrate. All grown up now, it is a little more challenging for her to fit into  our chairs !

WINTER BREAKFAST ROOM

We finally added a rug to this space. It definitely gave it a more cozy feel. Combined with some almost bare branches and a warm white oversized throw , I love the winter look.

breakfast room bright windows round table

The art in the corner gave the space just a bit of color, which I’m loving. Adding a reasonably priced piece of art is a great way to update a room!

Breakfast room round table six chairs vase branches

WINTER KITCHEN

Moving into the kitchen, I’m still pinching myself daily over how this space turned out. We didn’t do a full remodel, we simply updated finishes. Since our project was finished shortly before the holidays, I’m just now able to truly appreciate it!

kitchen white cabinets gold accents

For winter, I didn’t add anything new, other than a pedestal bowl and a cake stand . Both were items I selected for their versatility. The hurricane  with a candle is a multi-seasonal favorite. The vase filler is no longer available, but here is something I found that is very similar.

kitchen white quartz countertops

WINTER DINING ROOM

It was most difficult to take down my Christmas decorations in here . I LOVED our tree so much.

Once I had it cleaned up, I was happy just to have it looking as it did before the holidays. This is another recently updated room , so I simply added candles, trays, and moved a piece of art into the space.  Everything else is from the room reveal. I’m sure I will make a few additional changes for spring, but I wanted to show you that a pared down look works for winter!

Your home is so beautiful! You have such a gift for decorating and every room always looks perfect! I was wondering what faux greenery you use in your ginger jar on top of your stove? It is pictured in your winter kitchen. You also use it in another kitchen picture in a clear vase next to a vanilla and fig candle on two tiered white trays next to your stove. Thanks so much!

Hi Katie! Thank you so much! On the stove, in my ginger jar, I paired fresh seeded eucalyptus with fresh light blue hydrangeas. I use seeded eucalyptus frequently because it is so pretty and inexpensive. Hope this helps! xoxo

When the clutter of the holidays is stored and packed away the house can seem cold and barren. It’s the perfect time to start with a clean slate…add some color, candlelight and texture. These elements warm up the house making it cozy and inviting.

Be forewarned – we got a tad carried away and this post is very photo heavy. So grab your fave beverage -make sure it’s venti sized 🙂 and enjoy the view.

Today I’m joining my friend Amber at Follow the Yellow Brick Home for a Cozy Winter Home Tour Blog Hop. You will see a total of 12 Homes Decorated for Winter. Be sure to click on each link at the end of my tour.

If you are joining me from Shelley at Calypso in the Country , I’m so glad you stopped by.

The Entryway

Although my home doesn’t have a foyer or official entryway, this area next to the front doors serves as our entry space.

I’ve left the area minimal for my usual decorating style. This winter, I’m using the warm tones of the basket and vintage shifter to fill the space. Greenery and flocked pinecones add a winter feel.

French doors at farmhouse entry with basket of greenery and foraged pinecones.

Here, I’ve added some forsythia stems to a sap bucket. They are still bare, but the heat and window light will soon force the blooms. It will then look like an early spring inside the house.

If you’d like to force blooms in winter, read Cheat Winter: Force Forsythia Flowers & More To Bloom Indoors Now .

The vintage wooden thread spools were a yard sale score. I repurposed them for these fun tassels just before Christmas.

A gathering of foraged pinecones under a metal cloche fills the vintage sifter. The snowy tips are achieved with an easy flocking technique.

Natural Greenery for Winter

One of my favorite ways to make the farmhouse feel cozy for winter is to add natural greenery.

This DIY magnolia wreath is drying out beautifully. I made it before Christmas and didn’t preserve the leaves as I was short on time. However, as I watch it dry, I’m glad I didn’t. I love the faded colors, which are perfect for winter decorating.

Winter is a great time to make your own magnolia wreath; the tutorial can be seen here .

Since the holidays, I’ve been bringing fresh boxwood into the house. When you cut the boxwood in winter, it will continue to look great through the spring months.

Vintage books, flicker candles , and greenery add a warm, cozy feel to the room on a gloomy day.

Each winter, I replace my Silent Night Cow Painting with Faith.

She is actually a sister to Sophie! However, Faith’s quote is from Ecclesiastes – “To Everything there is a Season”.

She is a daily reminder that winter will pass and we have warmer days to look forward to. Faith prints are available in my store .

Candlelight and Brass

In addition, I like to fill the dining table with thrifted brass candlesticks for winter. I’ll share the entire table on our monthly Supper Club Tablescape Ideas later this month.

Last year I made a multi-candleholder from reclaimed wood and used it for a Cozy Winter Tablescape .

Cozy Winter Kitchen

The kitchen is a hard room to make cozy; however, because I’m sharing a cozy winter home tour, I wanted the kitchen cozy as well. So here’s what I did.

With a neutral white color palette, I am adding warm coppers and brass to help up the cozy factor.

One of our fall projects was building this copper pot rack hanger , which instantly added warmth to the brick backsplash wall.

Farmhouse Winter Decorating with copper pots and open shelving for a farmhouse kitchen.

In addition, the open shelving includes more copper, woods, and whites. The aged patina on the vintage ironstone also helps to warm the space.

Finally, add a few flicker candles , pinecone candles , and faux snow-tipped pinecones to the shelving.

One of my favorite projects was the DIY Kitchen Island , which we built while the farmhouse was under construction.

I’ve shared that I wanted a reclaimed barn wood top for the island. Instead, we used this technique to make the new wood look old.

The rustic wood gives the kitchen an old-world feel.

The island is filled with a vintage vignette, including a french cheese board, antique mason jars, a vintage toolbox, an old butter mold, and more vintage copper pieces. Most of these pieces are thrift store finds.

Cozy Winter Home – Bedroom

I like for the bedroom to be cozy year-round. Today, the neutral woods and whites continue into the bedroom for winter.

The 3 step flea market flip , side table, and easy thrifted lamp makeover help make the space warm.

I love all the bedding options, and this ruffled quilt and pillow shams are made with soft cotton fabric.

I’ve added a few Valentine’s Day touches with the paper garland and vintage quilt hearts. In addition, the room includes a few touches of warm blues, which include floral pillow shams .

A Modern Glam and Bohemian Winter Home Tour

Join the Eclectic Winter Home Tours for tons of winter home decor inspiration in a fun mix of styles. I’m sharing our foyer, bedroom, and living room!

Hi there!  I’m thrilled to be joining in on Domicile 37’s annual Winter Eclectic Home Tour featuring holiday homes all week.  This is our third year and it’s so much fun to compare how we decorated previous years to the current season.  Since we are in a new house, all of my home tours this month have also been debuting rooms.  Most recently I shared our piano and Christmas tree room and the living/dining area .  Today I want to show more of our foyer and our Christmas master bedroom.  Then for a little twist, a Christmas lights turned off tour.  If you are coming from Au Petit Salon , welcome!  I just love Ginny’s style and use of color and pattern.

A Modern-Eclectic Winter Home Tour with Glam and Bohemian Touches

Christmas Foyer Door Open with Wreath

To the left as you come in is just enough room for a primitive wood bench from Japan.

And now for our master bedroom.  I kept the holiday decor simple with a wreath decorated with dollar store trimmings and fairy lights hanging on the bed.

Bedroom Wreath On Gold Bed

We have a new piece of art in here.  My mother has been keeping it for me and it finally came home last week.  I love how it seems traditional yet is a somewhat strange composition.  The colors are perfect with our bedroom wall color!

Painting Bedroom Boho Glam

There’s a few small ornaments in a brass bowl on my husband’s bedside table.  And that’s it for Christmas decor in the bedroom. Very simple and easy but makes quite a statement I think!

And in our living room.  We sure are enjoying our new Tree Classics Christmas tree !  You can read more about how I decorated it and some simple DIY ornaments .

Christmas Tree Natural Light

My DIY Scandinavian inspired wreaths give off a ton of light when the candles and fairy lights are on.  But they sure look lovely without.

I slowly added to the garland on the mantel as I’ve been decorating the last month.  I really like how it turned out.  It might even receive a few more embellishments before Christmas rolls around.

I hope you enjoyed our eclectic winter tour.  Thanks so much coming by!  Make sure to pop in tomorrow for even more eclectic holiday decor starting with my sweet and talented friend at The Rath Project !  Scroll down to see all of the tours.

Thank you mama!

Your mantel is absolutely incredible, and I am having a fit over those adorable kokeshi dolls. Happy Holidays, beautiful friend!

Thanks Erica! Happy New Year!

Kathy, Kathy, Kathy…you know someday we will meet, j/s. I love your style and how you incorporate seasonal decor into your home. You do it in such a classy way and I love it. Those 3 wreaths going down the door has to be my favorite wreath situation. It is all so gorgeous!

Thanks so much Jess. Happy New Year!

Good Morning! Your winter decorating is beautiful. Your blog still makes me so homesick. None of my friends here even know who P. Buckley Moss is. I love your ornaments. I have my mothers and treasure them. Continued prayers for you and your mother. Jane Burch

Thank you so much, Jane. My aunt winters in Florida and finds so much P. Buckley Moss at Flea Markets.

You’ve nailed “cozy,” Paula!

Thank you so much, Amy.

Paula, I loved all your cozy decor elements. These hops are so fun. Glad to be sharing inspiration with you today.

Thank you so much, Rachel.

You have such lovely collections, Paula! I love the chairs in your screened in porch!

Thank you so much, Danielle. The chairs came from Big Lotts.

So lovely! I adore the pinecones that turn into roses. I have those, too. I don’t know the kind of tree they come from.

They come from the Deodor Cedar.

Lovely winter tour Paula, and the winter scene ornaments are really something special. I keep going back to look at them because they are just so pretty! Hope you are staying warm and cozy with that sweet Sherman!

Such a cozy home. Live the ornaments your mom gives you. So pretty.

Aren’t pinecones the best? I love them

Pinecones are great decor and they last forever.

Thank you so much, Michelle.

What a cozy tour. I adore the blue cut glass vase. It’s a stunner!

Thank you so much, Laura.

Hi Paula! Oh, your home is so cozy and pretty! The view of your two chair by the fireplace gets me every time. I love your style. You’re in my prayers. Be a sweetie, Shelia 😉

Thank you so much, Sheila.

Your home is beautiful!! All of your lovely keepsakes and collections really do make a house a home. Your gifts of Swarovski crystal snowflakes are Amazing. Love those, and the vintage Christmas card from your grandmother. All of your decor is so special, holding so many wonderful memories. I had to smile to see your glittered white branches. Many years ago, in 8th grade Home EC class, I made some like this, and a paper mache snow man, for my Mother. As I am now 82 years old, you know it really was MANY years ago, and I still love crafting. Anyway, I wonder if schools still teach Home EC. Sending warm wishes from cold WI.

Thank you so much, Bonnie. I was so sad when they cut out Home EC at the middle school where I taught. A few years after they did, a student asked me, “Wouldn’t it be nice to have a class where we learn to cook and sew?”

Your home is definitely cozy in the winter Paula. I especially love the Czechloslvakian blue vases. They’re gorgeous. And that sweet sled that your grandfather made is a perfect touch.

Thank you so much, Kim.

What a sweet momma to give you and your SIL such great ornaments. They are so pretty and yes, perfect for winter decorating. Always love your home and hopping with you.

Thank you so much, Cindy.

Your star tree is really beautiful.

Thank you so much for reminding me of the P Buckley Moss ornaments. I have a smaller collection than you, but I love them as well as her artwork. You are right, the winter scenes are perfect for January. Now to find them!

I am so glad that I inspired you, Sherry.

Your home is so lovely, every room. Love, love the blue vases! You are a true decorator and I love all your family items. Warm and cozy. .

Thank you so much, Elizabeth.

I’ve always loved P. Buckley Moss. Those ornaments are amazing! You always have the most gorgeous and precious sentimental family pieces. The crystal ornaments are perfect for “winter”. Hope you’re having a wonderful cozy weekend. Sherman looks like a real cuddlebuddy!

Thank you so much, Debra. Sherman is a wonderful cuddlebuddy and he gives great kisses as well.

Love P. Buckley Moss. I do counted cross stitch and seeing your ornaments makes me want to get a P. Buckley Moss pattern and start something to stitch. Also, I worked for a company who had a plant in Stuarts Draft Virginia, and I was able to get a few items from Virginia Metalcrafters shopped for me and sent back up here on one of our trucks. Was sorry when they were no longer in business as I collect brass candlesticks and am always looking for something different to add to my collection. In fact, I started my collection after a trip to Colonial Williamsburg.

In part two of my winter home tour , you can see a P. Buckley Moss cross stitch that I did in the 80s. I miss Virginia Metalcrafters and regret not buying more when it was still open. When I was growing up, VA Metalcrafters provided wood shavings for the horses’ stalls where I rode.

Always enjoy seeing your sentimental decorating, Paula, and hearing the stories!

Thank you so much, Lora!

I love this winter decor. I tried to do some this year but just didn’t come together like yours.

Thank you so much, Rosemary.

Paula..those ornaments are sooo cool! Now I want to collect them!! Seriously! I love your sparkly branches too! Thanks for the tour!

Thank you so much, DeeDee.

Paula I love all of your cozy decor idea. Those ornaments are so pretty and I love that dresser! Your home is so beautiful!!! xo

Thank you so much, Stacy.

All your wintry details inside look perfect. I love the simplicity of the white candles in brass candlesticks and just the pretty treasures displayed here and there. The sunporch makes me sigh! It looks so wonderful for winter, I would love to set and watch the snow there!

Thank you so much for joining the hop!

Thank you so much, Amber.

I ADORE vintage winter scenes. I have started a collection of winter barn scenes and they are my favorite pieces to collect right now. Those winter scene ornaments are amazing!!!

I never tire of seeing your home and “hearing” about your family treasures! Just beautiful. I swear my blood pressure goes down 10 points just going through your posts!

Thank you so much, Kathy.

Farmhouse Winter Decor

When the holidays are finally over, I think most of us are in a rush to get the holiday decor cleaned up and out of sight.  But then our home feels a little bare and naked of all that coziness that came with all that lovely holiday decor.  So after Christmas is over, I like to focus on some farmhouse winter decor.

Once I have cut out all the obvious Christmas decor, there are a few items I like to keep out for a few months through the winter.  Well, our winter lasts until May sometimes, but I try not to keep it that long:)

So today I’ve joined a handful of talented bloggers to show how we decorate for winter.  I keep my home cozy with farmhouse winter decor.  It keeps things simple and leads me into spring easily.

Farmhouse Winter Decor | Winter Home Tour | Farmhouse Decor | Home Tour | Winter Decor

I decided to change things up in my entry by adding my antique church pew to the mix.  I simplified the area and added my DIY vintage wooden sled for some winter fun.

My cow print got a new home in the hallway above my salvaged wood side table .

I create this space with an old drop leaf table I had previously had in my kitchen, but after my kitchen update , I decided it needed a new home.   I kept some of my greenery from Christmas to give it a fresh look and a pop of color.

I simplified my mantel by using a large round basket I came across at a thrift store.  A few simple pitchers round it out.

Our family rooms gets the most traffic in our home.  We spend hours here together and I wanted to create a cozy space where we can relax next to the fire.

The most recent addition to this room is my DIY barn door .

Its always been in this room, but I decided to change things up and I hung it on its side on the wall.  I love the way it looks behind my couch.

I added a simple sofa table below it and accessorized it with some found pieces in my home like this DIY tobacco basket.

Couldn’t agree with it more.

Now that Christmas is over, we’re finally seeing some snow on the ground! We rarely have a white Christmas, and usually January, February, and March are ridden with the cold stuff. I like to transition the house over from Christmas to a cozy, wintery look to hold us over until spring. Today I’m sharing my winter home tour (or, at least a few rooms) to show you how exactly I’ve been doing this. I’m also teaming up with some AMAZING ladies, so be sure to keep reading to see their gorgeous homes!

Our winter home tour and tips for transitioning from the holidays to a cozy, welcoming, wintery look in your home.

Our first stop is the dining room because it’s one of my favorites in the house. I took down our Christmas centerpiece  and kept it simple with some pillar candles in varying heights. One all of the Christmas decor comes down, I like to keep things fresh and clean. I love that it’s simple enough to make a statement, and also looks stunning lit at night. I also switched out our O Holy Night sign with this Vintage sign from Hunt and Gather Goods. I love the pop of black against the white walls. I kept everything the same with the exception of our wreath on the side board. I replaced the boxwood wreath with the cotton wreath we had up before the holiday.

Our winter home tour and tips for transitioning from the holidays to a cozy, welcoming, wintery look in your home.

Chairs: Amazon // Table: Built by us // Rug: Rugs USA // Sideboard: HomeGoods // Sign: Hunt & Gather Goods // Cabinet: Vintage // Bench: The Upcycled Farmhouse // Chandelier: World Market

Once we took the tree down in the living room, we moved our vintage parlor chairs back near the windows and I placed this small little white trunk in between. I like the clean look, and the room is much brighter without the tree blocking the window! I kept our knit and faux fur pillows, as well as our chunky knit blankets on the couch to keep things looking cozy. I also kept our mantle up but removed the “Happy Holidays” sign and our stockings. I really loved our mantle this year, and I’m not ready to part with the decor just yet!

Our winter home tour and tips for transitioning from the holidays to a cozy, welcoming, wintery look in your home.

Pillows: Target , Pier 1, World Market // Blankets: Pier 1, HomeGoods // Chairs: Vintage // Home Sweet Farmhouse Pillow: Homespun Happiness // Lamp: Target // Rug: WayFair  // Jute Rug: Rugs USA

I kept things simple in the kitchen by sticking some evergreens in a pitcher on our new open shelving and the crate on top of our lockers. I still need to remove our wreaths in the windows!

Our winter home tour and tips for transitioning from the holidays to a cozy, welcoming, wintery look in your home.

Shelving Brackets: Amazon // Light: Barn Light Electric

The next stop is our master bedroom. As you can see, we added a sliding barn door to our bathroom which I love! I switched out our bedding and kept our faux fur blanket and knitted pillow in place. I also kept the little flocked trees next to our bed because they aren’t too Christmas-y. Also, don’t mind the thermostat sticking out of the wall…we had our heating guys here fixing our heating system while I was taking these photos (real life!).

Our winter home tour and tips for transitioning from the holidays to a cozy, welcoming, wintery look in your home.

Barn Door Hardware: Home Depot // Bedding: Primark (IKEA has a similar version) // Fur Blanket: World Market // Side Tables: Sauder // Lamps: Amazon // Signs above bed: Hunt & Gather Goods // Bed: Amazon

And in case you missed it last week, the last stop on our tour is our playroom ! Again, this is the CLEAN version. It never looks this way 😉 I kept our plaid pillows and cozy blankets for a wintery, welcoming look.

Our winter home tour and tips for transitioning from the holidays to a cozy, welcoming, wintery look in your home.

Rug: Overstock

While I love the look, I’m really itching for spring (already!). Be sure to check out the other fabulous ladies on our winter home tour! I’m just in awe of their incredible style sense and they’re SUCH an inspiration to me…every single one of them!

A Happy Holiday Cozy Winter Home Tour With Neutral Colors

side table with white lamp, green books, brass horse and twig tree on the edge

If this is your first time here, howdy, I’m Cindy.  A Texas girl captivated by home decorating and immersed in doing so with our everyday home (today’s tour) in the suburbs of Dallas and the almost 100 year old farmhouse in a small town further south on County Road 407.

Front door and entry to our home.

This Christmas season has been slow going in the decorating department.  I’ve been in a knee-high boot a few weeks now for an Achilles issue mixed with a bone spur.  Fun times.

Had I known how pokey I’d be at literally everything, I would have started Christmas decorating in September.

close up of white metal trees with green stems tucked in at bottom

And may I ask – why is momma still required to do all the things even in a boot?  Not me grumbling.  Asking for a friend.

stair rail with hanging basket with Christmas tree stems and hutch in background

That being said, the holiday decor around here is very minimal this year.  It’s still cozy but definitely less.  At first I thought it was going to be horribly ugly and I’d be cancelling all tours and quite possibly all blogging.  But surprisingly, it’s growing on me more each day.

For holiday pizzazz, add pinecones and a bow to your everyday plants.

What could be the best part of this whole minimal Christmas decorating/boot thing is that with only a few minor changes, this type of decorating can work all winter long.  Hip hip!

Our Christmas Dining room.

For years I’ve said, less is more, stop buying stuff and use what you already have.  I stick to that motto for the most part because I tend to purchase things I love so I automatically want to use it all year round.  However, from the look of the attic, that motto should have started back in 1990.  Clearing out the attic will be a 2024 project for sure.  Yay (insert rolling eyes).

To see an evening tour of the dining room, click here .

So as we start the neutral and easy holiday tour, my best piece of advice is to keep each room cohesive by using the same color palette or theme.

collage of white and green holiday decor of stockings, plate and candle

If you like pink and black or red and green or purple and orange that is fine.  Just make sure the colors you choose are what is most noticeable as you move from room to room.  That way each space looks intentional.

Our casual living room/daily hangout room.

The first several photos were of the entry and dining room.  As you walk through to the living room, the calm, neutral theme is still present.  The only thing I purchased new this year are hanging on the mantel.  The large wooden bells are from Walmart .  Last time I checked, they still had some.  They are affordable and look fantastic!

mantel with green garland, black beads, wood bells and candles

Besides the bells, using what I already have has made my holiday decorating so much easier.  The large black metal piece over the mantel has been there all summer.  Last year I changed out the curtains for Christmas but with this heavy boot on, the ladder wouldn’t have been the smartest idea so the everyday curtains stayed.

green and gray velvet pillows on white sofa with flocked tree in background

The pillows are green and gray to keep things interrelated.  On the side table, I changed out the white neutral books with dark green ones for more color.  When doing so, I noticed the gold print on the book binding shows off the brass horse.  Just a small detail most people won’t even notice but I do.

Keeping treasures out for reminiscing and fun memories is always nice.

Over on the other side of the living room are some of my favorite pieces of furniture.  The 2 checked chairs and the large cubby shelf.  The shelf unit gets moved around a lot.  It’s been in the dining room and in the entry, but so far, I like it here the most.  Even if the entire seating area had to be shoved over towards the windows.

cubby shelf with 2 checked chairs, and console table with black mirror in background

You may not see anyone else arranging furniture this way but I love it and that’s what matters most, right?  Why yes, yes it does.

large cubby shelf with white ceramics, brown doll house and Christmas trees

The little white houses I made in pottery class are usually somewhere throughout the house.  But when some friends and I were headed for a glamping trip last month, we saw the doll house.  Thankfully the wonderful friend who actually saw it first is generous and let me have it.  What do you think off putting little houses inside a doll house?  It’s fun.

The manger scene is one of the pieces I love most from my pottery class.

Well, that’s my happy holiday cozy winter home tour with neutral colors.  If you would like more tips and decor ideas throughout the year, I’d love for you to subscribe to the blog.  And if you’d like to get to know me a bit more, check out the About Me Page .  We can become great friends!

Cindy, your home looks beautiful! So many pretty touches such as the bows and the idea to put pine cones in the plant. Though, I think my favorite is the dollhouse with all the little houses inside. It’s so rustic and pretty! Thanks for the lovely tour, friend! Cheers! – Shelley

' src=

I couldn’t think of a word for it but yes – rustic is a great description. Thanks so much Shelley. Merry Christmas!

' src=

Oh, Cindy. Your home looks so beautiful all decked out for the holidays. I love the cozy neutrals. My favorite is your gorgeous tablescape. The greenery paired with the mercury glass ornaments is so pretty!

So happy to be touring with you this week, friend. Wishing you a very Merry Christmas!

Thank you Jen. I love seeing the tablescape everyday. Still have yet to sit down for a candlelit dinner though. The hubs has been sick. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season.

' src=

Oh Cindy I just LOVE your tour! The neutral palette really lets your special decor pop with amazing texture and features. Pinning and sharing!

You are so sweet and know how to bring a smile to a girls face. Thank you Laura. Merry Christmas!

' src=

Cindy your holiday tour is absolutely lovely and warm and inviting! You know me, I love keeping things simple so that every detail is noticed and appreciated. I’m loving the new wood bells too, and the cute way you have them displayed! Maybe in 2024 I’ll take on of those pottery classes so I make some fun pottery pieces like you have. 😊

I wish we could take pottery together. That would be so fun! I wonder what 2024 is going to look like. I’m going to try and concentrate on the little things since this year was a crazy busy whirlwind! Merry Christmas friend and thank you.

' src=

Cindy, your pottery pieces are so wonderful. I love that nativity and your houses are darling. What a fun project! I’m so sorry you’re having to hobble around in a boot trying to decorate. I’m your friend on that. And yes, the Norman Rockwell notion that everyone helped decorate the Christmas tree was lost on my family. I did 99 percent of the decorating but they fussed when it wasn’t done. hmmmm. Love your beautiful “less is more” Christmas decor!

Glad I’m not the only one doing all the Christmas decorating! My kids are the same. When are you decorating the upstairs, when will the porch be done, when are we having our baking day? Seriously? :/ At least now, they begrudgingly help when I ask. But as soon as I’m out of this boot, I’m sure it will be another story. Thank you for the encouragement sweet friend. It made my day hearing you get it! Merry Christmas.

' src=

So beautiful, my friend. It is indeed happy and cozy. Hugs and blessings to you. Merry Christmas.

Thank you so much Renae. Hope your holiday season is lovely. I’m trying to soak up as much as possible. Merry Christmas!

' src=

I thought you said you didn’t have time to decorate! You are further along than me and I’m not wearing a boot this year lol! Anyway, I love your style and this year your home looks just as gorgeous as it always does!

Aww, thank you Jayne, you made my month! I’ll go through the rest of the holiday feeling so much better. Merry Christmas.

' src=

Such a beautiful home. I enjoyed your home tour.

Thank you bunches Tammy. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season. Merry Christmas!

' src=

Totally cracking up about you hating your decorating because I feel that way about mine so often 😂😂 Everything looks lovely, from the little wreaths on the stockings to your homemade pottery nativity. Also, I have similar cube shelves and have never thought to leave some of the cubes open and am wondering why?! It looks so amazing and love how it directs your eyes to the decor! Brilliant! And off to clear off some of my cubes… Merry Christmas to you, Cindy!

LOL Anne. Thank you! I appreciate you saying that. I don’t know why but when my shelves are full it overwhelms me so even though I’d love to take credit for the brilliant idea, it wasn’t for highlighting the decor. 😉 Happy Christmas!

' src=

So sorry about your bog boot, Cindy!! Regardless of that, your home looks so lovely for Christmas!! The mantel is amazing. I also tie bows to everything…it’s so cheap and simple but totally looks like Christmas! Merry Christmas to you!

I agree Rachel, bows make everything prettier. I had to take some down though. I definitely went overboard – LOL. Thanks so much for stopping by. Merry Christmas!

' src=

Your house looks beautiful. I especially love the nativity! So beautiful. You did a great job!

Thank you so much Melinda! I wish I had thought to have you come over and help. We’d make a good team. Did you do anything different this year? I’ll have to pop in and see what you’ve done. Merry Christmas!

' src=

You have a beautiful home and is so wonderfully decorated. I pray your foot problems get better. Decorating for Christmas is like celebrating Jesus birthday and I know He appreciates all you did.

Those words of celebrating Jesus resonated hard and you are so right. He does appreciate it if I have the right heart attitude. Thank you for the kind words and gentle reminder. You are the best!

' src=

Cindy Such a beautiful tour. I loved all your cozy spaces.

Thanks so much Rachel. Hope you are enjoying all this season has to offer. It’s fun to see how each state celebrates and feels differently. NC would be an exciting change. Merry Christmas!

' src=

Beautiful! I love all of the greenery and pinecones! Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas!

You too Jenn and thank you. Merry Christmas!

' src=

I love everything but I’m especially digging all the pinecones! Such a pretty, natural addition. Your home is soooo lovely.

Aww, thank you Jill. You made my day. There are so many pinecones at the farmhouse that we bring them home by the trash bag full. My friends like it. Especially when we bring home the Spanish moss. Hope you have a marvelous season and Merry Christmas!

' src=

I love, love, love all the neutrals! Such a peaceful and elegant look! You’ve inspired me! Merry Christmas

That’s what I love to hear Laura! So glad you saw something that inspired you. Thanks for the compliment and visit. Merry Christmas

' src=

Cindy, kudos for your getting decor completed even in the boot (I hope that resolves completely). I love the black accents throughout with the neutral look. That shot from the side of the stairs looking toward the hutch in the entry is my favorite. I still remember the fall look, both great. That dollhouse with dollhouses inside is really a cool look. And I love your nativity you made. Good luck with your mission for 2024 to clean out. I feel like I did a good job back in 2019, but here I am again. My sisters and I will be having a 50% off clearance in our booths in a couple weeks, and we really hope to make a dent in our “stuff”, which will allow more clearing from home. All those fosters I’ve been holding onto…..look out 2024. Your less is definitely more appealing to me. Merriest of Christmases to you!

Oh how I wish I lived close to you and could visit your booth! I loved having one but I totally understand the fosters. My booth was called One For You and One For Me! Perfect description. LOL. Hope you too get to do some clearing out. The older I get, the less I want to clean and dust. It might end up that one of these days I never want to deal with any of it. Then what will I do?! 😉 Merry Christmas to you as well.

' src=

Oh, Cindy! I can’t pick a favorite, there are just too many pretty holiday decor details. I love your neutral color palette for Christmas. I’m so sorry to hear you’re in a boot right now. I’ve been there with casts on my feet during the holidays and it is so tough. I’m amazed by all you’ve gotten done. Your wooden bells are too cute and your Christmas table is full of rustic beauty. Well done my friend. Merry Christmas!

You have made my week Kim. Not only do you understand how hard it is when you have something extra to deal with that you’re not used to but your enthusiasm made me smile ear to ear. Thank you so much. Happy Christmas to you as well!

' src=

Cindy, you’re vintage and rustic style sucks me in every time! I love how you never fail to make a simple decor look so stunning! Happy holidays!

Aww, you are so sweet Niky, thank you! We went on a tour of homes in a neighborhood not far from us and sadly, I had Christmas house envy. I hate that! Hope I remember that feeling next year and get excited about decorating. Fingers crossed. Happy Christmas!

' src=

Beautiful! Your home looks so calm, cozy and festive…neutral colours and greens are the best holiday decor! Merry Christma

Well, it works for me and the kids don’t seem to care but the mister doesn’t like that I left the trees bare. Hey, that rhymes. LOL. He’s also the one that thinks I should still feel like doing all the things even in a stupid boot (insert rolling eyes). Thanks for the visit and super nice compliment. Hope you have a great Christmas.

' src=

Goodness, I had no idea about your foot! Hope it heals quickly! I hurt my back the week of Thanksgiving (still dealing with it), and have NO IDEA how I’m going to be able to put away all the Christmas decor – it may still be out by summer! Regardless of your limitations, your home looks cozy, merry and happy for the holidays! I loved your simplified ideas, and one of these years I’m going to finally simplify my life, my decor (and my attic!). Merry Christmas Cindy, always so fun to tour with you xx

p.s. where did you find those amazing chairs at the head of your table? asking for a friend 😉 And don’t tell me Round Top!

LOL, nope, not Round Top. I got them at Kirkland’s of all places. Getting old stinks, doesn’t it. I hope your back gets better quickly! All I can say to that is BIOFREEZE! Thanks so much for the sweet comment. I truly appreciate it. Happiest of Christmases to you!

' src=

You can certainly enjoy this soothing look all winter long; beautifully neutral!

Thank you. I’m very excited about not having to deal with a lot in January. Maybe I’ll be sick of it and ready to purge around February. 😉

' src=

Love! All so beautifully cozy!

It’s the complete opposite of your fabulous colorful home, isn’t it?! Well, except for the cozy part. 😉 Thank you.

' src=

You are inspiring me to add more greenery! And I love your styling with that brass horse and wood tree! The colors of the whole vegnette are so lovely!

I love hearing that Kristin! Thank you for the wonderful compliment. I’m excited you found inspiration. Merry Christmas!

History of Kemerovo Oblast

People began to settle in what is now the Kemerovo region several thousand years ago. The indigenous peoples of the region were Shortsy and Teleuts. In 1618, Russians founded Kuznetsky stockaded town in the south of the present region to protect Russian lands from the raids of the Mongols and Jungars. In 1698, Mariinsk was founded.

In 1721, Mikhailo Volkov found “burning mountain” (a burning coal seam) on the banks of the Tom River and thus became the person who discovered the Kuzbass coal deposits. Industrial development of this land started at the end of the 18th century.

During the 19th century, the territory of the Kemerovo region was part of the Tomsk province. During this period, the first industrial enterprises appeared here: Tomsk ironworks, Gavrilovsky and Gurievsky silver plants, Suharinsky and Salairsky mines. Construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway was one of the main reasons for the rapid development of the local industry.

More historical facts…

In Soviet times, the region became part of the West Siberian krai, and then - Novosibirsk oblast. The development of the coal, metallurgical and chemical industries continued: Kemerovo Coke Plant, Kuznetsk Metallurgical Plant, a lot of new mines. The workers’ settlements built near the industrial enterprises quickly obtained the status of towns: Kiselyovsk, Osinniki, Krasnobrodsky, Tashtagol, Kaltan, Mezhdurechensk and others.

During the Second World War, this region was a major supplier of coal and metal. More than 50 thousand tanks and 45 thousand aircraft were produced using steel from Novokuznetsk. 71 industrial enterprises were evacuated to Kuzbass from the occupied regions, most of them remained in the region after the war.

In 1943, Kemerovo Oblast became a separate region that included 17.5% of the territory and 42% of the total population of Novosibirsk Oblast. After the war, the region continued to grow rapidly. On September 18, 1984, about 100 km from Kemerovo, a peaceful underground nuclear explosion was carried out, the power of the explosive device was 10 kilotons.

In the 1990s, the region’s economy declined. However, by the end of the 20th century, there were some positive developments - the development of the coal industry in the first place. Special attention was paid to the development of open-pit coal mining, as a more effective and safe way.

Kemerovo Oblast - Features

Kemerovo Oblast is one of the few Russian regions that has a recognized and well-known alternative name “Kuzbass” - the abbreviation of “Kuznetsk coal basin” occupying a large part of the territory of the region.

It is the most densely populated part of Siberia. The length of the region from north to south is about 500 km, from west to east - 300 km. Russians make up more than 90% of the population. There are small nations of Shortsy, Teleuts, Siberian Tatars who have preserved their cultural traditions.

The climate is sharply continental with long cold winters and warm short summers. The average temperature in January is minus 17-20 degrees Celsius, in July - plus 17-18 degrees Celsius.

Today, about 86% of the population of Kemerovo Oblast lives in cities and towns making it one of the most urbanized regions of Russia. The largest cities are Kemerovo (548,000), Novokuznetsk (540,000), Prokopievsk (185,000), Mezhdurechensk (95,400), Leninsk-Kuznetsky (91,600), Kisilyovsk (83,700), Yurga (79,700), Belovo (70,100), Anzhero-Sudzhensk (65,700).

Sheregesh, a village located at the foot of Zelenaya Mountain in Tashtagol district, is one of Russia’s most popular ski resorts. The ski season lasts from November to May. Kuznetsky Alatau Reserve and Shorsky National Park are the main natural attractions.

Kemerovo Oblast plays a significant role in Russian industry. The following mineral resources are mined here: coal, gold, silver, iron ore, manganese ore, aluminum, nepheline ore, lead, zinc, barite, quartz, limestone, clay, dolomite, sand.

Kuznetsk coal basin is one of the largest coal basins in the world. The most important centers of the local coal industry are Prokopyevsk, Mezhdurechensk, Belovo, Kemerovo, Novokuznetsk, Osinniki, Leninsk-Kuznetsky. Coal mines can be found almost everywhere in the Kemerovo region. About 180 million tons of coal is mined annually.

Rail transport is well developed in the region. The Trans-Siberian Railway, the South Kuzbas branch of West Siberian Railway cross its territory. There are large airports in Kemerovo (Kemerovo International Airport) and Novokuznetsk (Spichenkovo Airport).
