BACOLOD & NEGROS OCCIDENTAL: New Normal Travel Requirements

Traveling to Bacolod City or Negros Occidental soon? Like other cities and provinces in the Philippines, the local government has set new normal guidelines for those planning to enter their respective areas. In this post, we’ll list down the requirements that you need to prepare prior to your trip.

Travel requirements depend on whether you’re a Returning Overseas Filipino (ROF), Locally Stranded Individual (LSI), Authorized Person Outside Resident (APOR) or Non-Essential Traveler (Tourist / Leisure Traveler).

Your destination within the island also matters. Bacolod may be geographically within Negros Occidental but it is politically independent and separate from the rest of the province. Hence, Bacolod has its own policies. Case in point, as of this writing, only Bacolod City is accepting tourists.

Note: The dates when this post is last updated are indicated in this post. But policies and requirements change in these highly unusual times. Before making any move, we highly encourage you to contact the local government directly for the latest, most updated set of requirements.

Important! In compliance with the requirement of the Local Government Unit (LGU) for contact tracing, airline passengers are required to submit contact information and destination address. Passengers flying to Bacolod and Negros Occidental must submit these details by 23:59H, 2 days before departure to ensure that you can take your flight. Further details will be sent to passengers along with the pre-flight reminders through e-mail. Here’s how you can update your residence address if you’re a Cebu Pacific passenger:

• Go to MANAGE BOOKING on the Cebu Pacific website.
• Log in with your GetGo account or enter your booking reference number and surname to retrieve your booking.
• Click UPDATE GUEST DETAILS.
• Update the required details and continue.

Tourists / Leisure Travelers

• Negative RT PCR nasal swab test from ANY accredited laboratory taken within 3 days prior to departure. Saliva Test result is accepted only if from Philippine Red Cross.
• Roundtrip ticket / travel details.
• Confirmed booking at an accredited accommodation in Bacolod City. For the list of hotels, visit: LIST OF DOT-ACCREDITED BACOLOD HOTELS!
• Travel itinerary for the duration of stay in Bacolod.
• BaCTrac Identification Card. To get a BaCTrac ID, sign up here .
• Online Health Declaration Form. Fill up the form here.

Returning Residents / Locally Stranded Individuals (LSIs)

You need a Notice of Coordination from the Office of Councilor Cindy Rojas.

To make a request, email the following documents to [email protected] with the subject LSI in (Address) :

• Negative RT PCR Test from any accredited laboratory OR Saliva Test from Philippine Red Cross, taken within 3 days prior to departure.

Returning Overseas Filipinos (ROF)

You need a Notice of Acceptance from the Office of Councilor Israel Salanga.

To send a request, submit the following requirements to [email protected]:

• Confirmed flight details to Bacolod.
• Passport with stamp upon arrival in the Philippines.
• BaCTrac Identification Card. To get a BaCTrac ID, register here .
• Contact number and Address in Bacolod City.

Authorized Persons Outside Residence (APOR)

You need a Letter of Acceptance from the Office of Councilor Ayesha Villaflor.

• Certificate of Employment or DTI/ Business permit for business owners.
• Company or Government ID
• Travel/Work Order from the company declaring the ff: – Reason and Date of Travel – Duration of stay – Means of transportation – Exact address of destination in Bacolod City
• Contact number
• BaCTrac ID Card. To get one, register here .

Overseas Filipino Workers

There are no requirements from the City Government of Bacolod. Coordinate with OWWA Help Desk upon arrival in the Philippines.

2024 Travel Guide to Bacolod City for First-time Travelers

B acolod City is the capital of the province of Negros Occidental. Also known as the “ City of Smiles “, Bacolod celebrates its yearly MassKara Festival during the 3rd week of October. The City is also known for its culinary heritage, including its Chicken Inasal (roast chicken on skewers) and sweet dessert treats found all over the city.

In this Bacolod Travel Guide , I have listed some of the most interesting Bacolod City tourist spots, things to do and see, a Sample Itinerary, the Best Hotels in Bacolod, and nearby Cities.

Best time to visit Bacolod

If you’re looking for the warmest time to visit Bacolod, the hottest months are April, May, and June. The busiest month for tourism in Bacolod is October, during the famous Masskara Festival. Hotel prices and flights are more expensive during the festival month, though you can save if you book your hotel and airline ticket in advance.

How to get to Bacolod

Bacolod’s airport is not located within the city but within the Metropolitan Area of Bacolod in the City of Silay. The old airport, located in Singcang, was replaced by a bigger airport with air bridges — Bacolod-Silay International Airport(ICAO: BCD | IATA: RPVB).

Bacolod City is 45-60 minutes Southeast of Manila and 30 minutes west of Cebu by plane; the airport is connected to the two cities by local airlines — AirAsia, Philippine Airlines, and Cebu Pacific. There are also flights from Clark (1 hour travel time) and Davao City (1.5 hours travel time).

How to get to Bacolod City Center from Bacolod – Silay Airport

• Shuttle Service – This is the most recommended transport from Silay Airport to the City Center. Fare costs P150 (about $3) per person.
• Tricycle and Jeepney or Bus – This is the most affordable option but not the most comfortable mode of transport. You can take a tricycle ride just outside the airport to Silay City Center. The fare costs P100 (about $2) per person. Once you reach the City Center, ride a Bus or Jeepney to Bacolod North Terminal. The fare to Bacolod North Terminal is P15 per person. From the North Terminal, take another Jeepney ride to Bacolod City Center.
• Taxi or Grab Taxi – This is the fastest and most convenient way to get to Bacolod City Center, but it’s also the most expensive. The fare costs P250 to P500 (about $5 to $10) per person.

Getting Around Bacolod City

Taxis, buses, and Jeepneys are the top three transportation options you can use within and nearby cities in Negros Occidental. Car Rental companies can also be found inside the airport or in Shopping Malls.

Learn everything about Negros by visiting The Negros Museum

Located in Gatuslao St in Bacolod City, The Negros Museum is a well-curated Museum that showcases various artworks, relics, and artifacts that best describe this city’s glorious past. The museum not only represents the historic artworks but also encourages recent story-based contemporary art innovatively created by local artisans. The Museum also has a souvenir shop that sells local artworks and handicrafts made by local artists.

Walk around the Provincial Capitol Grounds

Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol Building and Lagoon is the official seat of the provincial government and served as the headquarters of the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II and formerly was the Negros Museum.

The building is of Romanesque architecture and also has a nice surrounding park and lagoon, which includes the Ang Paghimud-os statues done by Eduardo Castrillo, “Ang Paghimud-os” is a Hiligaynon word for “The Struggle.”

Just like Luneta Park in Manila, Kilometer Zero can be found in Bacolod Capitol Grounds. Interesting sculptures can be found in the lagoon, which is also a work of art by the famous Italian sculptor Francesco Riccardo Monti who also did the sculptures on the roof of the Metropolitan Manila Theater .

Visit San Sebastian Cathedral or Bacolod Cathedral

San Sebastian Cathedral, also known as Bacolod Cathedral, is located along Rizal Street across the Bacolod City Public Plaza. Bacolod Cathedral has a baroque architectural style and is one of the century-old churches found in Negros Occidental. Made up of coral stones and lime quarried from Guimaras Island and Palawan wood, this church is considered one of the most beautiful churches in the province.

Listen to the love story at “The Ruins” in Talisay City.

The Ruins in Talisay City is one of the most visited landmarks in Negros Occidental. It was built by Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson following the death of his first wife, Maria Braga.

The building is now a monumental landmark for its beautiful structure and romantic past. The Ruins is open daily from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm. The Ruins can also be rented for special events such as weddings, family reunions, etc.

Discover the Church of the Angry Christ in Victorias City

This church became popular inside Victorias Milling Company in Victorias City because of its controversial wall-sized mural with vibrant colors and striking art strokes. The painted altar combined the Spanish-American painter Alfonso Ossorio’s artistry with Filipino artist Benjamin Valenciano.

Visit the Heritage Houses in Talisay City

Silay City is often called the “Paris of Negros” due to its artists, cultural shows, and a large collection of perfectly preserved heritage houses.

Around the City, more than thirty heritage houses have been declared historical landmarks. Like Vigan in Ilocos Sur, Silay is the second city in the Philippines that has been declared a Museum City.

Enjoy Masskara Festival

MassKara Festival is one of the grandest and most colorful week-long festivals held yearly in Bacolod City. The Festival climax is a mardi-gras parade where revelers don elaborate masks and costumes and dance to Latin rhythms Rio de Janiero style. This Festival is held on the third week of October and coincides with the city’s Charter Day celebration.

Eat authentic Inasal at Manokan Country

A trip to Bacolod is incomplete without visiting Manokan Country to taste Bacolod’s trademark chicken inasal. Manokan Country is an entire street of a hole-in-the-wall restaurant selling various grilled foods, including the famous Bacolod Chicken Inasal.

Buy Piaya and other Pasalubong items from Bacolod.

Before you leave the city, your last stop should be a pasalubong shop where you can buy souvenir items and genuine Negrense delicacies. Piaya, Barquillos from Sugarlandia Pasalubong Shop, Cheesecakes from Calea, and Bacolod’s famous Napoliones.

Here’s a sample itinerary for a visit to Bacolod, Philippines. Keep in mind that you can adjust it based on your preferences and the time you have available.

Day 1: Explore the City

• Arrive in Bacolod and check into your accommodation.
• Enjoy a traditional Bacolod breakfast with local delicacies like piaya and napoleones.
• Visit “The Ruins,” a famous historical site with beautiful gardens and the remains of an Italianate mansion.

• Explore the night market for local crafts, souvenirs, and street food.

Day 3: Cultural Immersion

• Start your day at the Negros Museum to learn about the rich history and culture of Negros Occidental.
• Visit Bong-Bong’s Pasalubong Center for local treats and souvenirs.
• Explore Balay ni Tana Dicang, another heritage house in Silay showcasing Negrense lifestyle.
• Enjoy a farewell dinner at Aida’s Chicken, another popular spot for chicken inasal.

All travelers entering the port/s of Bacolod City from areas under Alert Level 3 or higher regardless of vaccination status (fully vaccinated, undergone booster, partially vaccinated or unvaccinated) are required to present the following:

• Valid/Official Government I.D.
• COVID-19 Vaccination Card and Documentation. (Issued by the Local Government Unit and Department of Health).
• Online BacTRAC registration via bacolodcity.gov.ph  

For Partially/Unvaccinated Travelers :

• Negative Non-reactive Antigen Test Results (should be taken from any DOH-accredited facility and released within 48 hours prior to travel).
• A separate Rapid Antigen Test Results conducted by the Province of Negros Occidental.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has heavily affected the tourism industry. Leisure tourism has opened up in the Philippines, but travel restrictions have been put in place to control the further spread of the virus.

For those who want to travel to the re-opened destinations and top tourist spots in the Philippines , we’ve collected the information you need to plan your vacation in the new normal. Read on to find out which Philippine destinations are open for leisure travel, what their travel requirements are, and other restrictions and guidelines imposed by the national and local government units.

International travelers:    Yes, the Philippines is open to all international tourists. Foreigners from visa-required countries will not need an exemption document to enter the country but will still need to follow the immigration rules set by the government.

All inbound travelers will also be required to register via the eTravel Portal, which replaces the One Health Pass requirement. Travelers may register within 72 hours from their arrival in the Philippines or upon arrival. The pre-registration form may be accessed at etravel.gov.ph . For travelers who were not able to pre-register, there will be special lanes set up for arriving passengers to comply with the eTravel registration.

Domestic travelers: Yes (to re-opened destinations only and with restrictions)

Traveling within the Philippines is allowed for tourists but is limited to select destinations and with restrictions.

Yes, the Philippines is open to international tourists. Foreigners from visa-required countries will still need to follow the immigration and visa procedures set by the government.

All travelers from outside the Philippines are required to register via the eTravel Portal. This replaces the One Health Pass requirement. Travelers may access the registration form at  etravel.gov.ph . The form can be filled out within 72 hours from arrival in the Philippines. For travelers who were not able to pre-register, there will be special lanes set up for arriving passengers to comply with the eTravel registration.

Foreigners are allowed to enter the Philippines. All foreigners are also required to register with the eTravel Portal, which replaces the One Health Pass requirement. In terms of health, the national government and the local government units have safety guidelines in place to lessen the spread of COVID-19. These include social distancing and the requirement of a negative COVID-19 test result and/or a vaccination card or certificate when crossing local borders. Following these rules will reduce your chances of contracting the disease. 

Mask-wearing and the presentation of proof of full COVID-19 vaccination are no longer mandatory in tourist spots. For your own safety, it is still encouraged to wear a mask in crowded places.

Tourist spots are generally safe, but it’s always best to be alert, make sure all your belongings are secure, and be cautious when interacting with strangers.

Yes, because the United States of America is one of the non-visa required countries . But note that like all foreign visitors, US citizens must follow the other requirements set by the government.

Below are the following requirements for foreigners traveling to the Philippines:

Foreign nationals of non-visa required countries 

Registration via etravel.gov.ph . This must be filled out within 72 hours from their arrival or travelers can comply upon arrival at the special lanes for eTravel registration.

A ticket back to the port of origin or the next port of destination outside the Philippines scheduled within 30 from arrival. An Entry Exemption Document (EED) must be secured for those staying beyond 30 days.

Must come from a non-visa required country under EO 408

Those traveling with their Filipino spouses and parents need to provide proof of filiation

Foreign nationals with valid and existing visas

Valid visa and/or ACR I-Card

A ticket back to the port of origin or the next port of destination outside the Philippines scheduled within the allowed maximum stay in the Philippines.

Proof of vaccination is not required to enter the Philippines, but it may be required when crossing local borders. An International Certificate of Vaccination (ICV) is accepted as proof of a traveler’s fully vaccinated status, but other documents may also be accepted in its place. These include a VaxCertPH digital vaccination certificate or a national/state digital certificate of the foreign government where they were vaccinated, which has accepted VaxCertPH under a reciprocal arrangement.

How to get an ICV

ICVs are issued by the country where you got the vaccine. If you got your vaccines in the Philippines, you can get your ICV by booking an appointment via icv.boq.ph . It costs PHP300, and a PHP70 convenience fee will also be charged. Alternatively, you can apply for a vaccination certificate via vaxcert.doh.gov.ph to prove your fully vaccinated status when entering the Philippines.

After you land in the Philippines, you need to follow the guidelines set by the IATF. 

A quarantine is not required for international travelers entering the Philippines, but a seven-day self-monitoring period is highly encouraged.

AirAsia - The airline has flights from China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand.

Aseana Airlines -The airline has flights from South Korea.

Cebu Pacific - The airline has flights from Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and United Arab Emirates.

China Airlines - The airline has flights from Taiwan.

Emirates -  The airline has flights from the United Arab Emirates.

Etihad Airways - The airline has flights from the United Arab Emirates.

Japan Airlines - The airline has flights from Japan and the USA.

JetStar - The airline has flights from Singapore.

Korean Air - The airline has flights from South Korea and the USA.

Which Philippine destinations don't have an RT-PCR test requirement for fully vaccinated travelers?

Yes, fully vaccinated travel is available in the Philippines, but not for all destinations. Several destinations in the Philippines have opened to fully vaccinated tourists, exempting them from the requirement of obtaining a negative RT-PCR or rapid COVID test for travel.

Some destinations in the Philippines only require travelers to present a government-issued ID to enter, but others still have a negative RT-PCR test or antigen test result as part of the requirements before you can board a domestic flight in the Philippines. Some destinations also require a mandatory quarantine for travelers, as well as a negative test result after a number of days in the destination.

Fully vaccinated individuals* are exempted from presenting a negative COVID-19 test result. They should instead present a Vaccination Certificate generated from vaxcert.doh.gov.ph . On October 30, it was announced that the province will also be temporarily accepting vaccination cards in lieu of the vaccination certificate. It will continue to do so until the DOH website ( vaxcert.doh.gov.ph ) is fully operational. 

For unvaccinated and partially vaccinated, a negative RT-PCR or saliva RT-PCR test result taken 3 days prior to travel. Children aged 11 and below are exempted from this requirement.

Asymptomatic individuals are exempted from presenting proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result.

The province of Sultan Kudarat is located in the southwestern portion of Mindanao. It is known as one of the top producers of coffee in the Philippines and for its many caves that you can explore.

Unvaccinated and partially vaccinated travelers must present a negative RT-PCR test result taken within 48 hours from arrival. 

Tawi-Tawi is home to the longest sandbar in the Philippines, located in Panampangan Island. Tourists should also check out Bud Bongao Peak and the Sama Dilaut and Tausug Stilt Houses in Sitangkai.

Tawi-Tawi Province travel requirements for leisure travelers:

Fully vaccinated* individuals are exempted from presenting a negative COVID-19 test result. They must instead present their vaccination card that shows their fully vaccinated status.

Unvaccinated and partially vaccinated travelers must present a negative RT-PCR test result taken within 72 hours of their arrival in the province. They must also undergo 10 days of quarantine, and partially vaccinated adults must complete their second dose in Tawi-Tawi. 

Children below 12 years old are exempted from the testing requirement provided they are traveling with a fully vaccinated parent or guardian.

Bacolod Travel Guide: How to Get to Bacolod from Manila?

To go to Bacolod, we traveled by plane from Manila (Ninoy Aquino International Airport) to Bacolod (Silay International Airport). The travel time takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. We left Manila at around 4 AM and arrived in Bacolod at 5 AM. 

We booked our flight with Philippine Airlines (PAL) for our flight to Bacolod then Cebu Pacific when we went back to Manila. 

You can also opt to travel by ferry. It’s cheaper but the travel time is about 20 hours which is not advisable if you’re trying to maximize your time. If you want some adventure you can buy a ticket from 2GO Travel , they’re the only ferry company that operates a Manila to Bacolod route, and they sail daily. 

On our way home, we traveled from Bacolod to Iloilo by ferry then from Iloilo to Manila by plane.

If you like seeing old buildings, then The Ruins is a must place to visit. Being a fan of history, I love going to places like this and I was really excited when we’re on our way here. The building’s structure is well-preserved and you can still see the beauty in it. The Ruins also has a beautiful wide garden where you can take a really good shot of the building.

2. Be a Kid Again at Campuestohan Highland Resort

One of the best things to do in Bacolod is to go here! Aside from swimming, visitors could enjoy the resort’s beautiful view, and you’ll see a lot of cool structures like dinosaurs. This is also the place where you can see cute hobbit-like houses. Due to its location that’s on a mountain, it gets very cold here, that’s why we didn’t get the chance to swim. This place is surely for people of all ages! I personally enjoyed our time here. Plus factor is the food in the restaurant inside which is super worth it!

To get closer to nature, Mambukal Mountain Resort is a must place to visit. This resort was developed by a Japanese Architect named Kokichi Paul Ishiwata in 1927 and was originally started as a bathhouse. You’d definitely enjoy your stay here. You can swim at the mountain’s private pool, do kayaking, and try its popular bathhouse that will relieve all your stress.

Ishiwata Bath House can be found within Mambukal Mountain Resort. Japanese Architect Kokichi Paul Ishiwata designed the bathhouse and still in use today. Japanese people believe that soaking in a hot bath not only provides cleansing and relaxation but can also improve blood circulation, reduce fatigue, and helps with shoulder stiffness. In this bathhouse, you’ll experience a very relaxing Japanese-style bathing.

Please take note that this is a DIY guide. In addition, we didn’t really plan our itinerary, all activities we did in Bacolod are on the spot decision. We didn’t book our accommodation in advance and we didn’t book a tour as well. During our trip what we did was used a google map, searched the internet, read blogs, and asked the locals in everything we need to know.

Bacolod Travel Guide – Day 1

Searched for Accommodation

On our first day, the first thing we did was searched for a place to stay in. As mentioned above, we didn’t book accommodation in advance. We just rode a jeepney, asked the driver to bring us to the plaza, which is the central part of Bacolod City. The locals also told us that the plaza is consists of plenty of hostels and hotels that we can choose from. Upon searching we decided to stay in Bacolod Pension Plaza. We’ll talk more about this accommodation below.

Buy Souvenirs

Since our accommodation is situated in a very convenient location, we are near SM Bacolod and public markets. We decided to do the opposite way of DIY traveling, we bought souvenirs on our first day. If you’re the type who likes buying a lot of souvenirs, this is not a good idea unless you have enough cash with you and you’re confident enough that your money can survive until your last day in Bacolod. We didn’t buy so many souvenirs so we’re fine.

Did Grocery Shopping

We decided to not spoil ourselves with foods (except Inasal of course, lol) so we did grocery shopping and bought canned goods, instant noodles, and some bread that we can eat.

Explore the Plaza

The Bacolod Public Plaza is a nice place to walk by and it looks wonderful especially at night with all the lightings. We roam around the plaza in the evening and took a lot of photos of the place.

Visit the 19th-century San Sebastian Cathedral

This cathedral is aesthetically beautiful. It’s located just beside the Bacolod Public Plaza and it literally stands out. If you love taking photos of old churches, this is a must-visit.

Our 2nd day is really the start of our trip to Bacolod.

Campuestohan Highland Resort

We woke up early and prepared for a trip to Campuestohan Highland Resort. We asked the receptionist on how to go there from our place. They told us that there’s a van/shuttle available in the morning that travels to Campuestohan. We rode a jeepney first, for only about 5 minutes, we just told the jeepney driver that we’re heading to Campuestohan so we need to go to the van terminal (though it’s not really a terminal since it’s just located in front of a convenient store. Unfortunately, I forgot what convenient store was that). Just to be sure, and if you’re doing a DIY trip as well, asking locals is the best thing to do since the van pick-up point might change location.

The trip to Campuestohan costs around PHP 70.00 – PHP 150.00 ($1.39-$3) and the travel time is about 45 minutes. Upon reaching the resort, we were in awe. The place is big and really beautiful. The weather at that time was also cold since we visited Bacolod in January. From the resort, you can see a splendid view of almost half of the entire province of Negros Occidental.

This is also the place where you can see hobbit houses, enormous figures of dinosaurs, and popular superheroes that both kids and adults would enjoy. I personally love this place and wanted to go back to stay in any of the hobbit houses and dip in the pool. We weren’t able to do those since we only stayed in the resort for half a day and it was crazy cold so dipping in the pool is not a good idea at that time.

Relieve your stress and worries at the Mambukal Mountain Resort

One of the highlights of our Bacolod trip. Our trip to Mambukal Mountain Resort made us explore and appreciate more the beauty of nature. Here, you can find the popular Ishiwata Bath House and you can also try Kayaking, swimming in the resort’s private pool. My cousin enjoyed the hot spring so much. It was 40 degrees so I was only able to stay in the water for less than 15 minutes (lol, I know I’m weak). My cousin stayed for 30 minutes, took a break then went back in again. The hot spring literally cured our fatigue and we felt really fresh after. This is a must-try!

Inside the resort, we also tried Bacolod’s specialty which is the Inasal. It was absolutely good! I’ve tried Inasal a lot of times, but that one was the best! We stayed in Mambukal for the whole day.

Bacolod Travel Guide: Frequently Asked Questions ​

1. is bacolod a safe place to travel.

Definitely safe. During our stay in Bacolod, we always wander at night, exploring the plaza, visiting SM Bacolod on foot, buying street foods, and we didn’t feel threatened at all. We’re both women and we can say that the locals are really sweet and friendly. As I said, we didn’t plan our trip and we just relied on asking the locals, they are all willing to help us and give us tips and advice during our trip. They never fail to give us a bright smile whenever we asked for help. No wonder Bacolod was hailed as the City of Smiles. 🙂

2. When is the best time to visit?

We visited last January 2019. It was great since the weather is cold and not crowded at all. I remember when we were in Campuestohan, very few people were there. However, since it was cold, weren’t able to enjoy the pool. So I can say that between January to May is the best time to visit. March to May is the Philippines’ summer season so you’d totally enjoy your stay here during that time.

3. What language or dialect do they speak?

Hiligaynon or Ilonggo is the main language spoken in Bacolod, but most people can also speak and understand Tagalog. And of course, they can also communicate in English, you won’t have any problem traveling here.

PS. Their accent sounds so sweet that it’s really nice to hear. <3

4. Is it expensive?

For a DIY and unplanned trip, I can say that Bacolod is not an expensive place to travel to. I spent around PHP 10,000 ($200) for 4 days and 3 nights trip including accommodation, food, souvenirs, transportation, and other fees. Ferry and plane expenses are not yet included. We spent around PHP 3,000 ($60) for both ferry and plane tickets.

Please remember that you can spend less than PHP 10,000 in Bacolod. In our case, our flight ticket was not a promo ticket that’s why it’s a bit expensive (considering that it was really unplanned). You can buy a ticket for only PHP 1,000 if there’s a seat sale (watch out for that!). Also, our accommodation was a bit expensive too (my cousin was demanding regarding this matter! lol).

5. Where can we stay?

We stayed in Bacolod Pension Plaza. This place is really relaxing and worth it. The location is wonderful since the plaza is located just across the street. A few walks would bring you to the San Sebastian Cathedral and SM Bacolod. There are a lot of restaurants and fast food in the surrounding area. Public markets are also reachable on foot. And since it’s located in the Plaza, it serves as a good start in traveling to Bacolod’s popular tourist destinations.

Our accommodation costs PHP 1,200 ($23.87) per night . So a total of PHP 3,600 ($71.60) for 3 nights (no breakfast) . Our air-conditioned room was spacious, it has 2 single beds, a bathroom with hot shower, cabled tv, and wifi. You can also request for hot water for your coffee or instant noodles. Again, you can find cheaper accommodation if you want to, my cousin just wants a place with aircon and a hot shower, lol. It was also a bit expensive since we’re walk-in travelers.

Summary of our accommodation expense:

PHP 3,600 / 2 people = PHP 1,800 ($35.80) per person for 3 nights.

6. How to travel around Bacolod?

We usually use jeepney or bus to travel around. The tricycle is also good but it’s a bit pricey. When we went to Mambukal Mountain Resort, we rode a normal bus.

7. Any tips on how to save money for food?

In my case, I brought canned goods from Manila to Bacolod to save money. But of course, it was not enough, so we still bought some food in the supermarket like bread, instant noodles, and more canned products. For rice, we just buy rice at the carenderias near our accommodation which costs PHP 20.00 ($0.40) only. Sometimes, we also buy street foods. That’s for our breakfast and dinner, we usually eat out during lunch (since we’re on a trip at lunch). Overall, we just spent around PHP 700.00 ($13.92) for food.

Bacolod City is an all-year round destination so there’s a flexibility when it comes to your desired date to explore the city and its nearby towns and cities. Negros Museum

To get a glimpse of the history of Negros Island, you should head to Negros Museum located in the provincial capitol complex in Bacolod City. It’s a privately owned museum that houses contemporary artworks and some artifacts. It is open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday to Saturday. Entrance fee is Php100.

Negros Forest & Ecological Foundation

Situated just a walking distance from Negros Museum and the Provincial Capitol of Negros Occidental, Negros Forest & Ecological Foundation is a forest park in the middle of a highly urbanized city of Bacolod. Most of the animals that are housed here are endemic to the region like the Visayan warty pig, Philippine sailfin lizard, and Visayan spotted deer.

Jojo Vito Designs Gallery

One of the best things to do in Bacolod City to fall in love with its culture and understand the friendly locals is to experience mask painting at Jojo Vito Designs Gallery. Panaad Park and Stadium

The Panaad Park and Stadium or the Panaad Sports and Recreational Park is a multi-purpose complex located in Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City. Aside from the stadium and sports facilities, the complex also houses the pavilions of the cities and towns of Negros Occidental.

The best time to visit the Panaad Park and Stadium is during the Panaad Festival in April. To get there by public transport, take the Alijis – Central Market jeepney from downtown Bacolod City.

You have never been in Negros Occidental if you don’t have a photo opportunity at The Ruins. It’s a mansion with landscaped gardens and a restaurant built in 1900s by Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson to show his love for his wife Maria Braga.

Silay Ancestral Houses

There are a number of interesting Ancestral Houses in Silay City. The most popular of all the ancestral houses in Silay is the Balay Negrense. Also known as the Victor Gaston Ancestral House, the Balay Negrense is an ancestral house turned into a museum in Silay CIty, Negros Occidental.

Another interesting ancestral house in Silay is German Unson’s ancestral house which turned into a bed and breakfast. You can stay here for around Php2,500 a night with complimentary breakfast.

Hacienda Sta. Rosalia

Located in the town of Manapla, Negros Occidental, Hacienda Sta. Rosalia is home to the Gaston Mansion, Hacienda Crafts Workshop, and the Chapel of the Cart Wheels. The Gaston Mansion is an ancestral house used in the movie Oro Plata Mata in the 1980s.

OISCA Bago Training Center

The Organization for Industrial, Spiritual and Cultural Advancement (OISCA) Bago Training Center is a Japan-based non-government organization that is known for its silk reeling plant and sericulture facility. It is a 26-hectare farmland that plays a major role in the country’s silk industry.

The ruins (mansion).

The Ruins , Bacolod City’s most famous attraction , is located on top of a hill and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Find out the love story of Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson and Maria Braga through The Ruins, which was burned during the war and now serves as a prominent historic place in Bacolod. He had their initials carved on every post of the mansion to prove his undying devotion to Maria. The two Ms, facing each other, signify Mariano and Maria.

The Negros Museum

The Negros Museum , which was completed in 1925 and designed by the architect Melendrez Sabio, is a museum that highlights the province’s history. It’s next to the Hall of Justice, three minutes from the Provincial Capitol. The Negros Museum is the finest Bacolod City tourist attraction to visit if you want to learn more about the island. It contains ancient historical relics and contemporary local artworks that represent events from Negros Islands and periods throughout history.

Don Salvador Benedicto

Don Salvador Benedicto , which is known as “the little Baguio,” has one of the coolest climates in the province. This municipality serves as a beautiful backdrop for this mountain community located at an elevation of 1,400 meters above sea level. With its towering pine trees, lush forest, and vibrant mountains, it’s no wonder that Don Salvador Benedicto is regarded as one of the most attractive sites in the province. Although much about the place is stunning to behold, it also contains notable landmarks such as the Lantawan or Viewing Deck, which overlooks Malatan-og waterfalls, Villa Ica’s verdant and nature-centric environment, among other notable sites.

Ilaya Highland Resort

The newest addition to the growing number of mountain resorts in the province is   Ilaya Highland Resort . The Balinese-inspired architectural elements of Ilaya and its lovely landscaped garden stand out among the existing Patag facilities, which are mostly basic. Ilaya is situated in such a perfect location that you can enjoy a gorgeous view of the mountains, Silay’s lowlands, and even Panay Island in the distance. Simply reclining at the foot of the infinity pool, breathing in the fresh air, and taking in the sights might be quite soothing.

Manokan (Chicken) Country

It would be a crime to visit Bacolod and miss out on its delectable dishes, such as the famous chicken inasal. Manokan Country is located just outside SM Bacolod, a food market with stalls that serve Bacolod’s front-runner in the culinary scene, chicken inasal (roasted chicken). Aida’s Restaurant is generally occupied by a jam-packed crowd of locals and tourists, making it the best choice among these stalls.

Laguerta Vintage Glass Museum

The  Laguerta Vintage Glass Museum  is a must-see for any tourist visiting Bacolod, which is located in Punta Taytay. They have a collection that begins with decanters and extends through decorative items, dinnerware, commemorative plates, and Victorian lamps. Thus, the visual and aesthetic impacts of this selection are really amazing. Tomas Claridad Casiano is a known floral designer from Beverly Hills, Los Angeles who gathered this collection.

Campuestohan Highlands Resort

Campuestohan Highlands Resort  is a rural theme park on a 5-hectare highland with mountains that sit just outside Bacolod. It features a variety of Native American-themed tepees, each accommodating up to 6 people. This place has something for everyone: playgrounds and a pool for the youngsters, a spa and a coffee shop for the seniors, and extreme activities such as ziplining and sky cycling for those who want an adrenaline rush.

Mambukal Mountain Resort

The  Mambukal Mountain Resort  is initially built by a Japanese and draws its natural beauty from a vast mountain river that cascades through seven waterfalls. Hot sulfur springs and warm dipping pools dot the park’s uneven terrain, adding to the area’s appeal as a bathing destination. Everything at this resort is connected to nature in some way.

Lakawon Island

The  Island of Lakawon , also known as Llacaon, is a banana-shaped island located off the coast of Cadiz with a 13-hectare surface area. The island’s white sand beach resort, family-owned and run, attracts both local and international visitors. So, if you’re seeking Bacolod beach tourist attractions, stop by the beautiful  Lakawon Island . This is an excellent spot for people who want to get out of town quickly. On the 13-hectare banana-shaped island lies Asia’s most extensive floating bar, also known as “The Floating Bar.” The island is known for its pristine white sand and transparent blue water.

Balay Negrense

The  Balay Negrense , Hiligaynon for Negrense House, also known as Victor Fernandez Gaston Ancestral Home, is a museum in Silay City, near Bacolod City, depicting the lifestyle of a late 19th-century Negrense sugar baron. It is notable for being the first museum in the province of Negros Occidental to be built. This home is an excellent example of Spanish-era Bahay na Bato architecture with a stone ground floor and wooden second floor. The inside presentation includes various handcrafted items and antiques collected over time.

San Sebastian Cathedral

The  San Sebastian Cathedral  is a 19th-century Roman Catholic cathedral in Bacolod. It serves as the diocesan see of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bacolod. In 1882, it was opened to the public, and it now contains the Bishop’s Palace within its grounds. The Philippine Historical Committee considers it a significant historical landmark because of its architecture.

Bernardino Jalandoni Museum

The Bernardino Jalandoni Museum, also known as the Bernardino Jalandoni House, is a must-see tourist attraction in Silay City, Philippines. It is the original home of Don Bernardino and Doña Ysabel Jalandoni. Because of its bright pink paint that draws attention immediately, it has been dubbed the “Pink House.” The memorabilia from the Jalandonis’ history are on display at the museum. According to portions of its architecture, pieces have come from Mindoro and Germany.

Pulang Tubig Falls

The Pulang Tubig Falls is in the Northern Negros Natural Park, a protected area in Silay City’s northern mountainous forest region. If you’d like to rest on Bacolod Beach but still appreciate the gift of water, this natural wonder is for you. It was named due to the color of the water that flowed from the falls during Japanese rule. It was claimed that a Japanese headquarters sat atop the mountain and that the waters became red due to soldiers’ blood.

Pope John Paul II Tower

The Pope John Paul II Tower was erected on the same site where the Pope had held a ceremony before a crowd of almost a million persons on February 20, 1981. This is where Pope John Paul II delivered one of his most impassioned speeches for the poor. The tower has seven levels, each with its photographs and mementos of Pope John Paul II.

New Government Center

The New Government Center, known as just NGC, is now one of Bacolod City’s newest attractions. It stands on a 5-hectare lot owned by Fernando F. Gonzaga, Inc. and Angela Estate, Inc., donated in July 2010 to replace the old City Hall on Araneta-Luriaga Streets. Joggers visit the grounds of the New Government Center, pet owners with their dogs, friends, and family hanging out together, among other things. It’s also been famous for corporate shoots and workshops for photographers.
